Resumo Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar as características socioambientais, funções executivas e nutricionais de crianças de 6 a 7 anos, de escolas públicas de Alagoas, Brasil. Foi realizado um estudo quantitativo, transversal e descritivo envolvendo 64 crianças, na referida faixa etária, de escolas públicas localizadas em Alagoas: Maceió, no litoral; Major Isidoro, no sertão e Palmeira dos Índios, no país. Tais análises foram feitas por meio da aplicação de testes neuropsicológicos e avaliação antropométrica com crianças e inquéritos alimentares e socioambientais com seus pais. Quanto ao tipo de habitação, 100% eram de alvenaria, com banheiro presente em 98,4%. Todas as crianças relataram o hábito de tomar banho no rio / lagoa, apresentavam alguma patologia. Não houve diferença significativa entre os municípios quanto às características sociodemográficas avaliadas, ocorrendo o mesmo resultado com os fatores associados à ocorrência de doenças em crianças. Os subtestes do WISC-IV, ficaram abaixo da média em todos os municípios, e o TAC e SCC foram classificados dentro da média. Porém, mesmo que a classificação tenha sido dividida entre abaixo da média e média, é possível identificar a partir dos subtestes do WISC-IV, que o QI geral apresentou um nível cognitivo abaixo da média. Também não houve diferença significativa na avaliação antropométrica (peso, altura, IMC e AIDPI) entre os alunos avaliados. O peso médio foi de 23,3 kg a 25 kg, a altura entre 1,23 ma 1,24 m, o IMC entre 16,4 a 17; A AIDPI de 2.8 a 3.0. As crianças foram classificadas dentro da média. Em relação aos micronutrientes (Ca, Fe, K, Mg e Na e vitaminas A, C, D, B1, B9 e B12) e calorias, também não houve diferença significativa entre os municípios avaliados. O mesmo ocorreu com os macronutrientes (proteínas, carboidratos e lipídios). Este estudo mostrou que de maneira geral não houve diferença entre os alunos dos três municípios. Provavelmente, mesmo sendo todas escolas públicas e de diferentes cidades, as crianças têm condições sociais semelhantes.

Abstract This study aimed to analyze the socio-environmental characteristics, executive and nutritional functions in children aged 6 to 7 years, from public schools in Alagoas, Brazil. A quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive study was performed involving 64 children of the mentioned age group, from public schools located in Alagoas: Maceió, on the coast; Major Isidoro, in the hinterland and Palmeira dos Índios, in the country. Such analyzes were made through the application of neuropsychological tests and anthropometric assessment with children and food and socio-environmental surveys with their parents. As for the type of housing, 100% were made of masonry, with a bathroom present in 98.4%. All children reported with the habit of bathing in the river / lagoon, presented some pathology. There was no significant difference between cities in terms of the sociodemographic characteristics evaluated, with the same result occurring with the factors associated with the occurrence of diseases in children. The subtests of WISC-IV, were below the average in all municipalities, and the TAC and SCC were classified within the average. However, even though the ranking were divided between below average and average, it is possible to identify from the subtests of WISC-IV, that the general IQ showed a cognitive level below the average. There was also no significant difference in the anthropometric assessment (weight, height, BMI and IMCI) between the evaluated students. The average weight was 23.3 kg to 25 kg, the height between 1.23 m to 1.24 m, the BMI between 16.4 to 17; the IMCI from 2.8 to 3.0. Children were classified within the average. Regarding micronutrients (Ca, Fe, K, Mg and Na, and vitamins A, C, D, B1, B9 and B12) and calories, there was also no significant difference between the cities evaluated. The same occurred with macronutrients (proteins, carbohydrates and lipids). This study showed that in general there was no difference between the students of the three municipalities. Probably, even though they are all public schools and from different cities, children have similar social conditions.

Abstract Oral cancer is a public health problem worldwide with approximately 300,000 new cases diagnosed every year and more than 170,000 deaths annually. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) accounts for approximately 90% of all oral malignancies and it is frequently preceded by lesions known as oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs). Screening programs for early detection of oral lesions have been conducted. Therefore, the objective of this research was to carry out an active search in a screening program in the city of Piracicaba, Brazil. High-risk patients were identified at the city’s health center through their medical records and referred for dental consultation. Other patients who opportunistically sought dental care were also seen and if they did not present risk factors for SCC, they were considered low-risk. A total of 756 patients were examined, and 445 met the criteria for the high-risk group and 311 for the low-risk group. It was possible to diagnose 27 OPMDs and six SCCs – 21 OPMDs and six SCCs occurred in high-risk patients and six OPMDs in low-risk patients. A chi-square test was applied and a statistically significant value (p = 0.006) was obtained for the detection of OPMD and SCC in patients of the high-risk group. Screening of high-risk patients through active search proved to be an effective program for diagnosing OPMD and SCC. Therefore, we encourage its implementation on a large scale to reduce the current scenario of this disease.

ABSTRACT Purpose to verify the relationship between the risk of falling, the level of confidence in activities involving balance, and age with the values of gain and symmetry of the semicircular canals (SSCs), using the Head Video Impulse Test (vHIT) in patients with peripheral vestibular dysfunction. Methods Cross-sectional study in 12 individuals submitted to functional evaluation using the Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale (ABC Scale) and the Dynamic Gait Index (DGI), and vestibular evaluation with vHIT. The results were compared using Spearman's Correlation Coefficient. Results There was a predominance of females (75%), with a mean age of 59 years and 8 months. The mean score in DGI was 19.70 points and on the ABC Scale, 43.65%, which is characteristic of a low confidence level. A moderate correlation was observed between age and DGI and between DGI and ABC Scale and SCC gain and symmetry values with vHIT. Conclusion A relationship was observed between a higher risk of falling in patients with vestibular hypofunction and advanced age and between a low level of confidence to perform daily activities due to asymmetrical SCC gain.

RESUMO Objetivo verificar a relação entre o risco de queda, o nível de confiança nas atividades que envolvem equilíbrio e a idade com os valores de ganho e simetria dos canais semicirculares (CSCs), por meio do Vídeo Teste do Impulso Cefálico (vHIT), em pacientes com disfunção vestibular periférica. Método estudo transversal, composto por 12 indivíduos submetidos à avaliação funcional por meio da Activities-specific Balance Confidance Scale (ABC Scale) e do Dynamic Gait Index (DGI) e avaliação vestibular com o vHIT. Os resultados foram comparados por meio do Coeficiente de Correlação de Spearman. Resultados observou-se predomínio do gênero feminino (75%), com média de idade de 59 anos e 8 meses. A média de escore no DGI foi de 19,70 pontos e 43,65% na ABC Scale, característico de baixo nível de confiança. Observou-se correlação de grau moderado entre os parâmetros idade com o DGI, DGI e ABC Scale com os valores de ganho e simetria dos CSCs do vHIT. Conclusão Observaram-se relações entre o maior risco de queda em pacientes com hipofunção vestibular e idade avançada e entre o baixo nível de confiança para realizar atividades diárias diante da assimetria de ganho dos CSCs.

The present work aims to contribute to the study and development of methodologies for shrinkage tests of self-compacting concrete (SCC) using the addition of polypropylene (PP) microfibers as a variable to validate the correlations between the shrinkage tests. The objective of this work was to evaluate, through correlations between the area and the age at which the cracks appeared, the role of PP fibers as a control for this pathology. Reference SCC traces with additions of 6 mm and 12 mm microfibers were created for this purpose. For the shrinkage tests, the criteria of the ASTM C1579:2013 (plates) and ASTM C1581:2016 (rings) standards were used. The microfibers showed a significant reduction in cracks in the SCC, its reduction rate ranging from 40% to 70%, also presenting a delay in its appearance, which varied from 9 to 20 days for the appearance of the first crack.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the contribution of oral and maxillofacial pathology laboratories (OMPLs) in Brazilian public universities to the diagnosis of lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). A cross-sectional study was performed using biopsy records from a consortium of sixteen public OMPLs from all regions of Brazil (North, Northeast, Central-West, Southeast, and South). Clinical and demographic data of patients diagnosed with lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCC between 2010 and 2019 were collected from the patients’ histopathological records. Of the 120,010 oral and maxillofacial biopsies (2010-2019), 6.9% (8,321 cases) were diagnosed as lip (0.8%, 951 cases), oral cavity (4.9%, 5,971 cases), and oropharyngeal (1.2%, 1,399 cases) SCCs. Most cases were from Brazil’s Southeast (64.5%), where six of the OMPLs analyzed are located. The predominant profile of patients with lip and oral cavity SCC was Caucasian men, with a mean age over 60 years, low schooling level, and a previous history of heavy tobacco consumption. In the oropharyngeal group, the majority were non-Caucasian men, with a mean age under 60 years, had a low education level, and were former/current tobacco and alcohol users. According to data from the Brazilian National Cancer Institute, approximately 9.9% of the total lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCCs reported over the last decade in Brazil may have been diagnosed at the OMPLs included in the current study. Therefore, this data confirms the contribution of public OMPLs with respect to the important diagnostic support they provide to the oral healthcare services extended by the Brazilian Public Health System.

Aim To compare the profile and overall survival of young adults and elderly people diagnosed with SCC. Methods A retrospective study was carried out at a High Complexity Oncology Unit, between 2010 and 2016. A descriptive analysis, a bivariate analysis using the chi-square and Fisher’s exact test and the Kaplan-Meier estimator were performed. The predictor variables were tested using the log-rank test and those with statistical significance and the literature were maintained for the Cox regression model. Results 282 cases of SCC were recorded, with only 12.4% diagnosed in young adults. The profile was similar between groups, with the majority of cases of the disease occurring in males, smokers and alcohol consumers. The lesions predominantly located on the tongue and were diagnosed in an advanced stage of the disease, resulting in 35.7% of deaths. The median survival time was 30 months in the elderly and 31 months in young people. In the multivariate analysis, age was not statistically significant, only staging and treatment were predictors of reduced overall survival. Conclusion Tumor staging, and treatment were prognostic factors for the disease.

Efficacy of antimicrobial therapy in association with vaccination on the bacteriological cure of subclinical mastitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus in lactating cows

RESUMO: O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a eficácia da antibioticoterapia associada à vacinação sobre a taxa de cura microbiológica de mastite subclínica causada por Staphylococcus aureus em vacas leiteiras em lactação. Foram selecionados 5 rebanhos, dos quais 72 vacas (120 quartos mamários, QM) foram diagnosticadas com mastite subclínica por S. aureus e foram alocadas aleatoriamente em um de três grupos de tratamento: a) Controle (sem tratamento); b) ATB (antibioticoterapia); e c) ATB+VAC (antibioticoterapia mais vacinação contra S. aureus). O tratamento intramamário consistiu em infusão de ampicilina 75 mg + cloxacilina 200 mg duas vezes ao dia, durante 5 dias. O tratamento parenteral foi feito por injeção de uma dose única (7,5 mg/kg) de enrofloxacina, no primeiro dia do protocolo de tratamento. As vacas vacinadas receberam três doses de uma vacina comercial, 14 dias antes do tratamento (d-14), no primeiro dia do protocolo de tratamento (d1) e 14 dias após o protocolo de tratamento (d+14). A taxa de cura das vacas não tratadas foi menor (0,06) do que das vacas tratadas com ATB (0,84) e ATB+VAC (0,85). Não foi observada diferença de taxa de cura entre vacas tratadas com ATB e ATB+VAC. Por outro lado, as vacas vacinadas apresentaram menor a contagem de células somáticas (CCS) após 28 dias de tratamento (4,76 log10) do que em vacas não tratadas (5,37 log10). Em conclusão, o tratamento com ampicilina e cloxacilina intramamária, associados à enrofloxacina intramuscular, apresentou alta taxa de cura para MSC causada por S. aureus durante a lactação. A utilização da vacinação contra S. aureus associada à antibioticoterapia não aumentou a taxa de cura dos QM durante a lactação, mas foi eficaz na redução do CCS quando comparada à QM não tratados. Entretanto, para ter certeza que a diminuição da CCS no grupo ATB+VAC estivesse associada à vacinação, o estudo deveria ter incluído um grupo adicional de apenas vacas vacinadas, sem terapia antimicrobiana, o que não foi feito no presente estudo e, portanto, é um das limitações do protocolo experimental utilizado.

ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the antibiotic therapy associated with vaccination on the microbiological cure rate of subclinical mastitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus in lactating dairy cows. A total of five herds, from which 72 cows (120 mammary quarters - MQ) were diagnosed with S. aureus subclinical mastitis, were included in this study. Cows were randomly allocated to one of three treatment groups: a) Control (no treatment); b) ATB (antibiotic therapy); and c) ATB+VAC (antibiotic therapy plus vaccination against S. aureus). Intramammary treatment consisted of twice-daily infusion of ampicillin 75mg + cloxacillin 200mg, for 5 days. Parenteral treatment was done by injection of a single dose (7.5mg/kg) of enrofloxacin, on the first day of the treatment protocol. Vaccinated cows received three doses of a commercial vaccine 14 days before treatment (d-14), on the first day of treatment protocol (d1), and 14 days after the treatment protocol (d+14). Non-treated cows had a lower cure rate (0.06) than cows treated with ATB (0.84) and ATB+VAC (0.85). No difference in cure rate was observed between cows treated with ATB and ATB+VAC. On the other hand, vaccinated cows had lower somatic cell count (SCC) after 28 days of the treatment protocols (4.76 log10) than non-treated cows (5.37 log10). In conclusion, treatment with intramammary ampicillin and cloxacillin, associated with intramuscular enrofloxacin presented a high cure rate for SCM caused by S. aureus during lactation. The use of vaccination against S. aureus in association with antibiotic therapy did not increase the cure rate of MQ during lactation, but it was effective in reducing the SCC when compared to non-treated MQ. Although to ensure that the decrease of the SCC in ATB+VAC group was associated with the vaccination, the study should have included an additional group of only vaccinated cows, without antimicrobial therapy, with was not done in the present study, and therefore is one of the limitations of the experimental protocol used.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this work was to trace an epidemiological and clinical profile of oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) cases diagnosed as lip and tongue SCC from June 2001 to 2018 at a pathology anatomy service located in Northeastern Brazil. Age, sex, duration, location, growth type, staining, metastasis, etiologic agents and lesion size data were obtained fr om patient clinical files and histopathological reports. A total of 124 cases were recorded, with tongue SCC being the most preval ent. The common characteristics of both assessed SCCs included higher frequency in men, mean age of 60 years old, evidence mostly of exophytic lesions and maximum size of 4 cm, predominantly diagnosed after a maximum of 1 year of appearance. Regarding divergent findings, lip SCC occurred mostly in the lower portion of the lip, presenting a predominantly leukoplastic color, with regular smoking habits and sunlight identified as the main etiological agents, and no strong relation to metastasis. On the other hand, tongue SCC mostly exhibiting predominantly erythroleukoplastic staining, with a greater relationship to alcohol - associated smoking and regular smoking habits. The highest percentage of patients with metastasis presented tongue SCC. Although lip and tongue SCC display a male preference, an increasing amount of female involvement has been noted over the years, due to the adoption of deleterious habits such as smoking and alcoholism. Tongue SCC presented a greater relationship with metastasis and clinical leukoeritroplastic evidence. This greater aggressiveness could be related to the unfavorable locat ion of these lesions in relation to lip SCC, sometimes making it difficult to identify in their early development stages.

RESUMEN: El objetivo de este trabajo fue rastrear un perfil epidemiológico y clínico de los casos de carcinoma oral de células escamosas (CCE) diagnosticados como CCE de labios y lengua entre junio de 2001 y 2018 en un servicio de anatomía patológica ubicado en el Noreste de Brasil. Los datos de edad, sexo, duración, ubicación, tipo de crecimiento, tinción, metástasis, agentes etiológicos y tamaño de la lesión se obtuvieron de los archivos clínicos de los pacientes y los informes histopatológicos. Se revisaron un total de 124 casos, siendo el CCE de lengua el más prevalente. Las características comunes de ambos CCE evaluados incluyeron mayor frecuencia en hombres, edad promedio de 60 años, evidencia mayoritariamente de lesiones exofíticas y tamaño máximo de 4 cm, diagnosticado predominantemente después de un máximo de 1 año de aparición. En cuanto a los hallazgos divergentes, el CCE labial se presentó mayoritariamente en la porción inferior del labio, presentando un color predominantemente leucoplásico, con el hábito de fumar habitualmente y la luz solar identificados como los principales agentes etiológicos, sin una fuerte relación con las metástasis. Por otro lado, el CEC de la lengua presenta en su mayoría tinción predominantemente eritroleucoplásica, con una mayor relación con el tabaquismo asociado con el alcohol y con los hábitos habituales de tabaquismo. El mayor porcentaje de pacientes con metástasis presentó CCE de lengua. Aunque el CCE de labios y lengua muestra una preferencia en hombres, se ha observado una cantidad cada vez mayor prevalencia en mujeres a lo largo de los años, debido a la adopción de hábitos nocivos como el tabaquismo y el alcoholismo. El CCE de lengua presentó una mayor relación con la metástasis y la evidencia clínica leucoeritroplásica. Esta mayor agresividad podría estar relacionada con la ubicación desfavorable de estas lesiones en relación al CCE labial, dificultando en ocasiones su identificación en sus primeras etapas de desarrollo.

The influence of duplex aging (DA) heat treatment and consequent microstructural changes in the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance of Ti-6Al-4V α+β titanium alloy was examined through constant load SCC test and metallographic examination. The time for fracture (TFF) of duplex aged samples in the SCC test was compared with single aged samples TFF. The results of the constant load SCC test showed an improvement in corrosion resistance with the second stage of aging in the duplex aging heat treatment. Microstructural examination revealed a preferential path for SCC crack propagation through prior β grains (lamellar structure alternating α and β phases) which indicated that the bigger SCC resistance observed in DA samples is a consequence of greater β phase decomposition due to the second stage of aging. It wasn’t observed a bigger grain growth in the DA heat treatment, in comparison with single aged (SA) samples. The observed fracture aspect was mixed (ductile-fragile) in peripheral regions and ductile in the interior of the body proofs, what indicate the major influence of SCC in the fracture mechanism.

ABSTRACT Malignant tumors of the penis are rare, most of them being squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). We report the case of a 75-year-old man with a large penile mass submitted to partial penectomy. The specimen showed an exophytic mass involving the glans, coronal sulcus, and prepuce. Microscopic examination showed a carcinoma with two distinct areas: a mixed SCC and a sarcomatoid carcinoma. The SCC component had areas of verrucous carcinoma and areas of classical invasive SCC. The tumor cells expressed p63 with the absence of p16 expression. Vimentin and p53 were positive in the sarcomatous component. The morphology and immunohistochemistry were compatible with mixed SCC (verrucous hybrid-sarcomatoid carcinoma). Additionally, the tumor cells also expressed 3 different clones of PDL1 (22C3, SP263, and SP142). Two months later, the patient presented local recurrence with multiple lymph nodes and lung metastases, dying 7 weeks later. Mixed tumors represent diagnostic challenges. The correct identification of adverse prognostic factors can be the first step to implement the treatment with a higher probability of success.

RESUMO: A resistência à meticilina no grupo Staphylococcus intermedius (GSI) tem aumentado na clínica de pequenos animais. Membros GSI resistentes à meticilina (GSIRM) têm sido causas de infecções tanto em animais de companhia e humanos. Cassetes cromossômicos estafilocócicos mec (SCCmec) carregam os genes mecA/C, que codificam a transpeptidase PBP2a (PBP2’) responsável pela resistência aos antibióticos β-lactâmicos em estafilococos. Nosso objetivo foi investigar os elementos SCCmec de GSIRM isolados de diferentes amostras clínicas de cães que exibiram CIM de meticilina ≥ 0,5 μg/mL por meio de um sistema automatizado em um Centro Veterinário de Diagnósticos em São Paulo, Brasil. A sensibilidade à meticilina foi determinada por meio do teste de microdiluição em caldo e fitas Oxoid® M.I.C.Evaluator®. A produção de PBP2a foi detectada usando um ensaio de aglutinação de látex. A tipagem dos elementos SCCmec foi realizada de acordo com as diretrizes do International Working Group on the Classification of Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome Elements (IWG-SCC). SCCmec tipo II (2A), SCCmec tipo III (3A), SCC compostos de um complexo mec de classe A com múltiplos complexos ccr, e elementos SCCmec não tipáveis foram encontrados nesses isolados GSIRM. Variantes que diferem dos elementos SCCmec reconhecidos até o momento pelo IWG-SCC foram encontradas, indicando novos rearranjos no contexto genético de mecA nesses isolados GSIRM caninos.

ABSTRACT: Methicillin resistance in the Staphylococcus intermedius group (SIG) has emerged in small animal practice. Methicillin-resistant SIG (MRSIG) members have been implicated as causes of infections in both companion animals and humans. Staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) elements carry the mecA/C genes, which encode for the transpeptidase PBP2a (PBP2’) responsible for β-lactam antibiotic resistance in staphylococci. This study examined the SCCmec types of MRSIG isolates from different clinical specimens of dogs that exhibited methicillin MIC ≥ 0.5 μg/mL by an automated identification and susceptibility system in a Center for Veterinary Diagnostics in São Paulo, Brazil. Susceptibility to methicillin was determined by broth microdilution testing, and Oxoid® M.I.C.Evaluator® strips. PBP2a production was detected using a latex agglutination assay. SCCmec typing was performed according to the International Working Group on the Classification of Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome Elements (IWG-SCC) guidelines. SCCmec type II (2A), SCCmec type III (3A), composite SCC structures consisting of a class A mec gene complex in addition to multiple ccr gene complexes, and non-typable SCCmec elements were reported in these MRSIG isolates. SCCmec type variants differing from those so far acknowledged by IWG-SCC were found, indicating new rearrangements in the genetic context of mecA in these canine MRSIG isolates.

Abstract We measured the effects of açai oil in the diets of prepartum cows to evaluate health, milk production and quality. Sixteen Holstein cows were divided into two groups: SOY used as control, and AÇAI, test group. Occurred inclusion of 4% soybean or açai oils was provided in the concentrate starting at 20 days prepartum [d -20 to d 0 (partum-day)]. The AÇAI diet increased (P=0.01) milk production (d 10 and 20) and reduced somatic cell count (d 20). In milk, no effects were detected (P≥0.10) for concentration of fat, lactose or protein as well as in terms of serum concentration of calcium, albumin or triglycerides. AÇAI diet tended to increase (P=0.09) serum concentrations of total protein, glutathione transferase (d 4), and total antioxidant capacity (d 4 and 10) and increased (P≤0.05) globulin, gamma-glutamyl transferase, superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase (d 4). Further, AÇAI diet reduced the serum concentration of creatine kinase (P≤0.05) (d 0, 4 and 10), reactive oxygen species (d 0 and 4) and lipoperoxidation (d 0) and tended to reduce aspartate transaminase activity (P=0.07; d 0 and 4). Açai oil in the diets in prepartum cows improved their health as well as milk production and quality.

Resumo O concreto autoadensável (CAA) é um material que apresenta alta trabalhabilidade e moderada viscosidade quando comparado ao concreto convencional. Em função de suas vantagens, nas últimas décadas, o CAA vem sendo investigado e as pesquisas abordam a utilização de novos componentes em sua estrutura e a busca pela melhoria de seu desempenho, tanto no estado fluido quanto no endurecido. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o comportamento de argamassas autoadensáveis com fíler calcário e com a adição de cinza do bagaço de cana-de-açúcar (CBCA) em substituição parcial ao agregado miúdo. Para atingir este objetivo, inicialmente, uma taxa de substituição de areia natural por CBCA foi definida. Na sequência, foram realizados ensaios de espalhamento e funil-V com o intuito de verificar o comportamento das argamassas no estado fresco. Após a verificação do comportamento das argamassas em seu estado fresco, a série de traços que obteve os melhores aspectos de fluidez e viscosidade foi selecionada, e, para as argamassas autoadensáveis foram moldados corpos-de-prova para determinação da resistência à tração aos 28 dias, e resistência à compressão aos 7 e 28 dias. As análises experimentais demonstraram um aumento de viscosidade e redução da fluidez à medida em que se aumentava o teor de fíler calcário, facilitando a obtenção de argamassas autoadensáveis. Com relação ao desempenho do material no estado endurecido, as argamassas apresentaram leve incremento de resistência à tração e à compressão, devido ao efeito fíler dos finos. Foi possível substituir 40% do agregado miúdo por CBCA.

Abstract Self-compacting concrete (SCC) is a material with high workability and moderate viscosity when compared to conventional concrete. Due to its advantages, the SCC has been investigated in the last decades and the research studies the use of new components in its structure and the search for the improvement of its performance, both in the fluid and in the hardened state. The goal of this study was to evaluate the behavior of self-compacting mortars with limestone filler and with the addition of sugarcane bagasse ash (SBA) partially replacing the small aggregate. To reach this goal, initially, a rate of replacement of natural sand by SBA was set. Afterwards, slump-flow and funnel-V tests were carried out in order to check the behavior of the mortars in the fresh state. After checking the behavior of the mortars in their fresh state, the different mix proportions that achieved the best aspects of fluidity and viscosity was selected, and, for self-compacting mortars, specimens were molded to determine tensile strength at 28 days, and compressive strength at 7 and 28 days. The experimental analyses demonstrated an increase in viscosity and reduction in fluidity with increasing content of limestone filler, facilitating the obtaining of self-compacting mortars. Regarding the performance of the material in the hardened state, the mortars showed a slight increase in tensile and compressive strength due to the filler effect of fines. It was possible to replace 40% of the small aggregate with SBA.

RESUMO O uso de concreto autoadensável (CAA) aliado ao concreto reforçado com fibras (CRF) tem sido objeto de várias pesquisas recentes. A combinação da fluidez do CAA com o uso de fibras aumenta a probabilidade de que, no processo de lançamento, seja possível causar orientação preferencial nas fibras, inclusive em elementos planos. Isto pode ser benéfico ou prejudicial ao desempenho estrutural, uma vez que a capacidade resistente pós-fissuração do CRF depende fortemente da disposição e orientação das fibras. Devido a isso, é necessário o desenvolvimento de metodologia que possibilite avaliar esta condição. O uso de ensaios especiais, como o indutivo, pode ser uma ferramenta de controle que auxilie na compreensão da influência das condições de moldagem na orientação das fibras. No entanto, não há muitas pesquisas voltadas à parametrização desta condição em elementos planos. Este estudo traz como objetivo a demonstração da efetividade de utilização do ensaio indutivo em testemunhos cúbicos extraídos de uma placa moldada com concreto autoadensável reforçado com fibras de aço. Como resultado, o ensaio indutivo permitiu medir a variação na concentração de fibras em cada testemunho e, através da orientação de fibras medida em cada cubo, traçar linhas de fluxo que apontem a influência da moldagem na orientação preferencial das fibras.

Abstract The use of self-compacting concrete (SCC) combined with fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) has been the subject of several recent studies. The combination of the fluidity of the SCC with the use of fiber increases the possibility that, during the casting process, there is preferred orientation of the fibers, even in the case of slab elements. This could provoke an enhancement or a loss in structural performance, once the post cracking strength of FRC relies on the positioning and orientation of the fibers. Because of this, the development of a methodology is needed in order to allow the assessment of this condition. The use of special test methods, as the inductive test, may be a useful tool to help to understand the influence of the casting conditions in fiber orientation. However, there are not many studies focused on the parameterization of this condition in slab elements. The present study aims to use the inductive test method in cubic cores sawn from a slab made of steel fiber reinforced self-compacting concrete. As result, the inductive method was able to assess the variation in the fiber concentration and the fiber orientation in each core. The use of the individual cubes measured results turn possible to draw flow lines that point to the influence of the casting in the preferred fiber orientation and concentration.

Abstract: Human Leukocyte Antigen G (HLA-G) is a molecule involved in the tumor immunosuppression and also in the generation of regulatory T (Treg) cells, thus leading to evasion to the immune system host, and consequently, contributing to tumor progression in several cancers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the immunoexpression of HLA-G by tumor cells and FoxP3+ Treg cells in 25 oral tongue squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) and 25 lower lip SCCs and analyze their relationship with clinical parameters. HLA-G expression was higher in oral tongue SCCs than in lower lip SCCs. In oral tongue SCCs and lower lip SCCs, no association between HLA-G expression and clinical parameters (tumor size, lymph node status, distant metastasis, and clinical stage) was verified (P>0.05). FoxP3+ Treg cells were detected along the tumor invasive front in all cases of oral tongue and lower lip SCCs. In oral tongue SCC cases, the number of Treg cells tended to be higher in smaller tumors, tumors without regional lymph node metastasis, and tumors in early clinical stages, but the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). A significant positive correlation was found between the expression of HLA-G by neoplastic cells and Treg cells in lower lip SCCs (p = 0.008). Our findings suggest the involvement of HLA-G and Treg cells in the modulation of immune responses in oral tongue and lower lip SCCs. This interaction between HLA-G and Treg cells may represent an evasion mechanism in these malignancies.
