The excessive production of new tires and the inappropriate disposal of waste tires have caused serious environmental and public health problems. To properly dispose of this environmental liability, these rubber residues have been used in cement composites to improve some of their properties in the hardened state. This study evaluates the incorporation of rubber and vermiculite residues in concrete in terms of mechanical and acoustic properties. Different concrete compositions were defined where rubber waste and vermiculite were used to replace the natural sand mass. To characterize the concretes, mechanical and acoustic tests, and analysis of the microstructure of the material were carried out to better understand its properties. An improvement in the acoustic properties can be seen in the composites with rubber and vermiculite. Abstract Objective: To evaluate the association between dose of skin-to-skin contact (SSC) per day and initiation time with the occurrence of deaths in newborns with weight up to 1800g. Method: Multicentric cohort in five Brazilian neonatal units, including newborns with a birth weight of ≤1800g. The time of SSC was registered in individual file, by the team or family during the hospitalization. Maternal and newborn data were obtained through questionnaires applied to mothers and in medical records. Classification Tree was used for data analysis. Results: The performance of the first SSC after 206h was significantly associated with death (p = 0.02). Although there was no association between SSC/day and death (p = 0.09), the number of deaths among those who performed more than 146.9 minutes/day was lower (3;1.5%) than among those who performed this practice for a shorter time (13;6.4%), a fact considered of great clinical importance. Early and late infections present statistically significant associations with the outcome. The chance of death was equal to zero when there was no early infection in the group with the longest duration of SSC. This probability was also equal to zero in the absence of late sepsis for the group with less than 146.9 minutes/day of SSC. Conclusions: The first SSC before 206 hours of life is recommended in order to observe a reduction in the risk of neonatal death. Staying in SSC for more than 146.9 min/day seems to be clinically beneficial for these neonates mostly when it was associated with the absence of infection.

RESUMO: A infecção por Trypanosoma spp. é um problema em muitos países tropicais, infectando várias espécies animais, incluindo humanos. O objetivo do presente estudo foi identificar as espécies de Trypanosoma em primatas neotropicais no estado Rio de Janeiro e comparar os resultados com outros relatos, tanto filogeneticamente quando geograficamente. A detecção molecular foi baseada no gene SSU 18. As sequências obtidas na PCR foram sequenciadas e comparadas com outras previamente depositadas no GenBank. Essas sequências foram utilizadas para análises filogenéticas e confeccionar um mapa de distribuição de espécies de primatas infectadas por espécies de Trypanosoma no Brasil. Entre 34 macacos, cinco macacos-prego (Sapajus spp.) e um sagui (Callithrix spp.) apresentaram sequências de Trypanosoma spp. no mesmo clado de Trypanosoma minasense e três sequências de macacos-prego estavam no mesmo clado de Trypanosoma cruzi. A Mata Atlântica e a Amazônia brasileira são as regiões com maior frequência de estudos sobre Trypanosoma spp. e variedade de primatas neotropicais hospedeiros. São áreas que merecem atenção no que se refere à conservação da biodiversidade, mas também evidencia a carência de estudos com PNH em outras regiões do país e de estudos multidisciplinares para melhor compreender as relações do patógeno hospedeiro.

ABSTRACT: Trypanosoma spp. infection is a problem in many tropical countries, infecting several animal species, including humans. The aim of the present study was to identify the Trypanosoma species in Neotropical primates from Rio de Janeiro state and compare the results with other reports both phylogenetically and geographically. Molecular detection was based on the 18 SSU gene. The sequences obtained in the PCR were sequenced and compared with others previously deposited in GenBank. These sequences were used to perform phylogenetic analysis and make a distribution map of primate species infected by Trypanosoma species in Brazil. Among 34 monkeys, five capuchin monkeys (Sapajus spp.) and one marmoset (Callithrix spp.) showed Trypanosoma spp. sequences in the same clade of Trypanosoma minasense and three capuchin monkeys’ sequences were in the same clade of Trypanosoma cruzi. The Atlantic Forest and the Brazilian Amazon are the regions with the highest frequency of studies about Trypanosoma spp. and variety of Neotropical primate hosts. These are areas that deserve attention regarding the conservation of biodiversity, but it also makes evident the lack of studies with Neotropical primates in other regions of the country, as well as multidisciplinary studies to better understand the host pathogen relationships.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito da ω-conotoxina MVIIC e das células-tronco mesenquimais (CTM) de forma isolada e sua associação nos ratos submetidos ao trauma medular agudo (TMA). Trinta Rattus novergicus, linhagem Wistar, três meses de idade, foram distribuídos igualmente em cinco grupos experimentais: controle negativo (CN), controle positivo (CP), ω-conotoxina MVIIC (MVIIC), células-tronco mesenquimais da medula óssea (CTM-MO) e associação (MVIIC + CTM-MO). O grupo CN foi submetido à laminectomia sem trauma medular, e os grupos CP, MVIIC, CTM-MO e MVIIC + CTM-MO foram submetidos ao trauma medular contusivo. O grupo CP recebeu, uma hora após o TMA, 10μL de PBS estéril, e os grupos MVIIC e MVIIC + CTM-MO receberam 10μL de PBS contendo 20pmol da ω-conotoxina MVIIC, todos por via intratecal. Os grupos CTM-MO e MVIIC + CTM-MO receberam, 24 horas após, 1x106 de CTM via intravenosa. Avaliou-se a recuperação da função locomotora até o sétimo dia pós-trauma. Os animais tratados com MVIIC + CTM-MO obtiveram recuperação motora após o trauma medular agudo (P<0,05). Conclui-se que essa associação apresentou efeito neuroprotetor com melhora na função locomotora em ratos Wistar.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of isolated ω-conotoxin MVIIC and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and its association in rats submitted to acute spinal cord injury (SCI). Thirty Rattus norvegicus, Wistar strain, three-month-old rats were randomly distributed in five experimental groups with six animals: negative control (CN), positive control (CP), ω-conotoxin MVIIC (MVIIC), bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (CTM-MO) and the association (MVIIC + CTM-MO). The CN group underwent laminectomy without spinal cord trauma, and groups CP, MVIIC, CTM-MO and MVIIC + CTM-MO were submitted to contusive spinal cord trauma. The CP group received 10μl of PBS one hour after SCI, and groups MVIIC and MVIIC + CTM-MO received 10μl of PBS containing 20pmol of ω-conotoxin MVIIC, both intrathecally. Groups CTM-MO and MVIIC + CTM-MO received 1x106 of MSCs intravenously 24 hours later. The recovery of locomotor function was evaluated up to seven days post-injury. The animals treated with MVIIC + CTM-MO obtained motor recovery after SCI (P<0.05). It is concluded that this association showed neuroprotective effect with improvements in locomotor function in Wistar rats.

The term inflammaging is now widely used to designate the inflammatory process of natural aging. During this process, cytokine balance is altered, presumably due to the loss of homeostasis, thus contributing to a greater predisposition to disease and exacerbation of chronic diseases. The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between pro-inflammatory markers and age in the natural aging process of healthy individuals. One hundred and ten subjects were divided into 5 groups according to age (22 subjects/group). Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) were quantified using the ELISA method. High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) was analyzed by turbidimetry according to laboratory procedures. The main findings of this study were: a positive correlation between hsCRP and IL-6 as a function of age (110 subjects); women showed stronger correlations; the 51–60 age group had the highest values for hsCRP and IL-6; women presented higher values for hsCRP in the 51–60 age group and higher values for IL-6 in the 61–70 age group; and men showed higher values in the 51–60 age group for hsCRP and IL-6. In conclusion, the natural aging process increased IL-6 and hsCRP levels, which is consistent with the inflammaging theory; however, women presented stronger correlations compared to men (IL-6 and hsCRP) and the 51–60 age range seems to be a key point for these increases. These findings are important because they indicate that early preventive measures may minimize the increase in these inflammatory markers in natural human aging.

RESUMO Objetivou-se, com a presente pesquisa, avaliar a viabilidade de Aspergillus spp. com potencial probiótico durante o armazenamento e diante da pressão da microbiota autóctone, bem como a tolerância aos principais ácidos graxos da fermentação ruminal. Verificou-se também a inocuidade micotoxicológica desses isolados fúngicos cultivados em meio de cultivo sólido. Foram avaliados 20 isolados de Aspergillus spp., provenientes do trato gastrointestinal de bovinos criados em Urochloa decumbens lignificada. Esses fungos foram identificados por análise de sequências do DNAr e foram selecionados por apresentarem expressivo potencial celulolítico. O método vapor de amônia foi utilizado para detecção de cepas produtoras de micotoxinas. Os isolados foram avaliados quanto à viabilidade de crescimento em fluido ruminal por até 96 horas e estocagem em condições ambientais. Observou-se que os fungos avaliados não produziram aflatoxinas e que 95% dos isolados apresentaram resistência aos ácidos ruminais. Dois isolados, selecionados a partir das análises anteriores, apresentaram viabilidade sob a pressão da microbiota autóctone e de metabólitos do ecossistema ruminal e permanecem viáveis por, no mínimo, dois anos. Conclui-se que os isolados do gênero Aspergillus selecionados nesta pesquisa apresentam características fisiológicas para serem utilizados com aditivos microbianos ou probióticos para o ambiente ruminal.

ABSTRACT The aims in this study were to evaluate the viability of Aspergillus spp. with probiotic potential during storage, pressure of autochthonous microbiota and tolerance to the main fatty acids of ruminal fermentation. The mycotoxicological safety was also verified. Twenty isolates from the gastrointestinal tract of cattle raised in lignified Urochloa decumbens were identified by rDNA sequence analysis and were previously selected because they showed significant cellulolytic potential. The ammonia vapor method was used to detect the production of mycotoxins. The isolates were evaluated for viability of ruminal fluid growth for up to 96 hours and storage under environmental conditions. The evaluated fungi did not produce aflatoxins, and 95% of them had resistance to ruminal acids. Two isolates, selected according these tests, presented viability on autochthonous microbiota pressure and metabolites from the ruminal ecosystem and remain viable for at least two years. In this research, the selected Aspergillus spp. isolates present physiological characteristics to be used with microbial additives or probiotic.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi caracterizar as doenças dos gatos domésticos provenientes dos casos de necropsia e histopatologia do Hospital Veterinário da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (HV/UFMG), de 2005 a 2014. Foram analisados 408 exames de necropsia e 197 de biópsias, segundo o sexo, a faixa etária e a raça. Os diagnósticos mais frequentes incluíram doenças infecciosas/inflamatórias ou parasitárias (22,5%), agentes físicos (18,1%), doenças proliferativas (15,2%) e degenerativas (13,5%). Politraumatismo (10,8%) foi responsável pelo maior número de mortes em felinos, sendo as chances três vezes maiores em animais com até 24 meses de idade (P=0,005 OR 3,47 [IC 95%: 1,40-8,57]). Neoplasias epiteliais corresponderam a 26 diagnósticos, sendo 20 (4,9%) casos de malignidade. A ocorrência de carcinoma e seus subtipos foi 18 vezes maior em gatos idosos (P<0,01 OR 18,15 [IC 95%: 7,41-44,45]). A insuficiência renal crônica foi mais frequente em gatos com mais de 120 meses (P=0,01). Machos apresentaram nove vezes mais chances de desenvolver doenças do trato urinário inferior quando comparados às fêmeas (P=0,001 OR 9,50 [IC 95%: 2,78-32,48]). Em relação às biópsias, animais adultos a idosos foram 10 vezes mais representados (P<0,001 OR 10,8 [IC 95%: 3,22-36,79]).

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to characterize the diseases of domestic cats based on necropsy and histopathological examinations at the Veterinary Hospital of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (HV/UFMG) from 2005 to 2014. A total of 408 necropsy and 197 biopsy samples were analyzed according to gender, age, and breed. The most frequent diagnoses included infectious/inflammatory or parasitic diseases (22.5%), physical agents (18.1%), proliferative (15.2%), and degenerative (13.5%) diseases. Polytrauma (10.8%) was responsible for the highest number of feline deaths, with the odds three times higher in animals up to 24 months of age (P= 0.005 OR 3.47 [95% CI: 1.40-8.57]). Epithelial neoplasms corresponded to 26 diagnoses, with 20 (4.9%) malignant cases. The occurrence of carcinoma and its subtypes was 18-fold higher in older cats (P< 0.01 OR 18.15 [95% CI: 7.41-44.45]). Chronic renal failure was more frequent in cats over 120 months (P= 0.01). Males were nine times more likely to develop lower urinary tract diseases when compared to females (P= 0.001 OR 9.50 [95% CI: 2.78-32.48]). Regarding the biopsies, adult to elderly animals were ten times more represented (P< 0.001 OR 10.8 [95% CI: 3.22-36.79]).

RESUMO Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, avaliar a quantidade de fibra na dieta que é capaz de promover melhor uso de nutrientes na dieta de cabras leiteiras quando a palma forrageira é a principal fonte de forragem. Quinze cabras leiteiras alpinas foram distribuídas em um quadrado latino triplo 5 × 5 contendo cinco tratamentos e cinco períodos. Testaram-se cinco dietas compostas por diferentes teores de fibra em detergente neutro de feno de tifton (FDNf) na matéria seca de rações contendo palma forrageira: D1: 11,98%; D2: 18,31%; D3: 23,68%; D4: 28,76% e D5: 32,12% de FDNf. A ingestão de matéria seca, proteína bruta, fibra em detergente neutro, carboidratos não fibrosos e extrato etéreo diminuiu linearmente com o aumento do conteúdo de FDNf. Houve um aumento linear da produção de leite e da proteína do leite com o aumento da FDNf dietética. A gordura, a lactose, o extrato seco, o pH e a acidez do leite não foram afetados pelo aumento dos níveis de FDNf na dieta. Em situações em que as cabras leiteiras são alimentadas com palma forrageira e outros tipos de forragem são limitados, 11,98% de FDN de forragem diferente da palma podem ser usados como fonte efetiva de fibra.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the amount of fiber in the diet that is able to promote better use of nutrients in the diet of dairy goats when forage palm is the main source of roughage. Fifteen Alpine dairy goats were distributed in a 5 × 5 triple Latin square containing five treatments and five periods, and each treatment contained. We tested five diets composed of different contents of neutral detergent fiber from Tifton hay (NDFf) in the dry matter of rations containing forage palm: D1: 11.98%; D2: 18.31%; D3: 23.68%; D4: 28.76% and D5: 32.12% NDFf. The intake of dry matter, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber, non-fiber carbohydrates and ether extract decreased linearly with the increase in NDFf content. There was a linear increase of milk production and milk protein with increasing dietary NDFf. The fat, dry extract, protein, pH and acidity of the evaluated milk were not affected by increasing the levels of NDFf in the diet. In situations where dairy goats are fed forage palm and other types of forage are limited, 11.98% NDF from forage other than palm can be used as an effective source of NDF.

RESUMO A espécie Digitaria insularis tem sido selecionada por aplicações frequentes de glyphosate, tanto em áreas de plantio direto como em pomares de frutíferas. Assim, objetivou-se neste trabalho o controle de diferentes populações de D. insularis pelo herbicida glyphosate, isolado e em mistura com quizalofop-p-tefuryl, além de classificar as populações quanto à sensibilidade (suscetível, medianamente suscetível ou tolerante) ao glyphosate e analisar características morfoanatômicas das folhas das populações. Para o experimento de controle químico, o delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições, em esquema fatorial 12 x 4. Doze populações de D. insularis foram pulverizadas com glyphosate isolado (1,44 e 2,16 kg e.a. ha-1) e em mistura (2,16 kg e.a. ha-1) com quizalofop-p-tefuryl (0,12 kg i.a. ha-1). Ademais, uma testemunha sem aplicação foi mantida para cada população. Em laboratório, foram realizadas análises morfoanatômicas e de quantificação de cerosidade das folhas. As populações 3, 5, 6 e 8 foram consideradas suscetíveis ao glyphosate; 9, 10 e 12, medianamente suscetíveis; e 1, 2, 4, 7 e 11, tolerantes. Todas as populações apresentaram as mesmas características morfológicas, mas diferiram nas anatômicas e na quantidade de cera. Contudo, as populações dentro de cada grupo (suscetíveis, medianamente suscetíveis ou tolerantes) não tiveram características semelhantes que justificassem a resposta diferencial ao herbicida glyphosate. Diferenças relacionadas com a translocação dos herbicidas e/ou fisiologia das plantas poderiam explicar os resultados do controle químico dessas populações.

ABSTRACT Digitaria insularis has been selected by frequent glyphosate applications both in no-till areas and in fruit orchards. The objective of this paper was to evaluate control efficacy of D. insularis populations by glyphosate, alone and mixed with quizalofop-p-tefuryl, as well as classify them for herbicide sensitivity as susceptible, moderately susceptible and tolerant. This study also aimed to evaluate the relations between herbicide sensitivity and morphoanatomic features of leaf tissues. For chemical control, the experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design, with a 12 x 4 factorial arrangement with four replications. Twelve populations of D. insularis were treated with glyphosate alone at two concentrations (1.44 and 2.16 kg a.e. ha-1) and with the mixture of glyphosate (2.16 kg a.e. ha-1) and quizalofop-p-tefuryl (0.12 kg a.i. ha-1). One treatment without herbicide application was maintained for each plant population. Evaluations about the morphoanatomic features and wax content of leaves from the twelve plant populations were made under laboratory conditions. Populations 3, 5, 6 and 8 were considered to be susceptible; 9, 10 and 12 were considered as moderately susceptible; 1, 2, 4, 7 and 11 were considered tolerant to glyphosate. However, populations within each group (susceptible, moderately susceptible and tolerant) did not have similar characteristics that justify their response to glyphosate. Differences relative to herbicide translocation and/or plant physiology could account for the chemical control results for these populations.

RESUMO O objetivo do presente estudo foi determinar a diversidade e a estrutura genética de seis populações naturais de Prochilodus lineatus em usinas hidrelétricas (UHE) dos rios Pardo (UHE Limoeiro - LMO), Mogi-Guaçu (UHE Mogi-Guaçu - MOG) e Tietê (UHE Promissão - PRO, UHE Barra Bonita - BAB, UHE Nova Avanhandava - NAV e UHE Bariri - BAR). Foi encontrado um total de 47 alelos, com tamanhos entre 118pb e 330pb. Os resultados de heterozigosidade média observada (0,490 a 0,625) refletiram uma alta variabilidade genética intrapopulacional. Os valores de distância genética (0,149 a 0,773), Fst (0,006 a 0,218) e Nm (1,2 a 4,2) mostraram a presença de similaridade genética entre as populações. De acordo com a AMOVA, houve maior variação dentro das populações do que entre elas. O dendograma mostrou a formação de dois agrupamentos (LMO-PRO-MOG e BAR-BAB-NAV). Concluiu-se que as populações naturais apresentaram alta variabilidade genética, com similaridade genética entre elas, possivelmente causada pelo programa de repovoamento realizado nesses rios.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to determine the genetic diversity and structure of six wild populations of Prochilodus lineatus in Hydroelectric Power Plants (HPP) of the Pardo (HPP Limoeiro - LMO), Mogi Guacu (HPP Mogi-Guaçu - MOG), and Tiete (HPP Promissão - PRO, HPP Barra Bonita - BAB, HPP Nova Avanhandava - NAV and HPP Bariri - BAR) rivers. A total of 47 alleles, ranging in size from 118bp to 330bp were found. The results of observed heterozygosity average (0.490 to 0.625) reflected a high intra-population genetic variability. The values of genetic distance (0.149 to 0.773), Fst (0.006 to 0.218), and Nm (1.2 to 4.2) showed that between the populations there is genetic similarity. According to AMOVA there was higher variation within populations than between them. The dendrogram demonstrated the formation of two groups (LMO-PRO-MOG and BAR-BAB-NAV). It was concluded that wild populations had high genetic variability with genetic similarity between them, possibly caused by the restocking program performed in these rivers.

Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of aerobic exercise on biochemical, anthropometric and hemodynamic profiles of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, in randomized clinical trials and case-control studies. Method: The databases used in the study were: MEDLINE, BVS (LiLacs), IBECS (Spain), MED Caribbean and Central Controlled Clinical Trial Registry. We included studies published from 2004 to 2014. Were analyzed anthropometric (body mass index, waist circumference and percentage of body fat), hemodynamic (blood pressure and heart rate) and biochemical parameters (glycemia, glycated hemoglobin, insulin, cholesterol-HDL, cholesterol-LDL and triglycerides). Results: The results showed that, aerobic exercise of moderate intensity and often three or more times a week, promoted a significant reduction in waist circumference, blood glucose and diastolic blood pressure. Conclusion: It is concluded that there are benefits of aerobic exercise of moderate intensity practiced regularly often more than three times a week on waist circumference, glycemia and diastolic blood pressure in diabetes mellitus type 2.

Resumo Objetivo: O objetivo do presente estudo foi analisar os efeitos do exercício aeróbico sobre os perfis bioquímico, antropométrico e hemodinâmico de pacientes com diabetes mellitus tipo 2, em ensaios clínicos randomizados e estudos de caso-controle. Método: As bases de dados utilizadas no estudo foram: MEDLINE, BVS (LiLacs), IBECS (Espanha), MED Caribe e Central de Registros de Ensaios Clínicos Controlados. Foram incluídos estudos publicados nos anos de 2004-2014. Foram analisadas as medidas antropométricas (IMC, circunferência de cintura e percentual de gordura), hemodinâmicas (pressão arterial e frequência cardíaca) e bioquímicas (glicemia, hemoglobina glicada, insulina, colesterol-HDL, colesterol-LDL, triglicérides). Resultados: Os resultados evidenciaram que o exercício aeróbico, de intensidade moderada e com frequência igual ou superior a três vezes por semana promoveu redução significativa no perímetro da cintura, na glicemia e na pressão arterial diastólica. Conclusão: Conclui-se que há efeitos benéficos do exercício físico aeróbio de moderada intensidade, praticado de forma regular com frequência de 3 ou mais vezes por semana, sobre o perímetro da cintura, glicemia e pressão arterial diastólica em indivíduos com diabetes mellitus tipo 2.

Resumen Objetivo: El propósito de este estudio fue analizar los efectos del ejercicio aeróbico sobre los perfiles bioquímicos, antropométricos y hemodinámicos de pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo 2, en ensayos clínicos aleatorizados y estudios de casos y controles. Método: Las bases de datos utilizadas en el estudio fueron: MEDLINE, BVS (LiLacs), IBECS (España), MED Caribe y el Registro Central de Ensayos Clínicos Controlados. Se incluyeron estudios publicados desde 2004 hasta 2014. Se analizaron medidas antropométricas (índice de masa corporal, circunferencia de la cintura y porcentaje graso), hemodinámicas (presión arterial y frecuencia cardíaca) y bioquímicas (glucemia, hemoglobina glicosilada, insulina, Colesterol-HDL, Colesterol-LDL y triglicéridos). Resultados: Los resultados mostraron que el ejercicio aeróbico, de intensidad moderada, realizado de 3 veces o más por semana causó una reducción significativa en la circunferencia de la cintura, la glucemia y la presión arterial diastólica. Conclusión: Se concluye que hay beneficios del ejercicio aeróbico de intensidad moderada, practicado regularmente más de 3 veces a la semana, en el perímetro de la cintura, glucemia y presión arterial diastólica en pacientes con diabetes tipo 2.

Em vista da grande quantidade de agroquímicos aplicados na agricultura, principalmente os herbicidas, cresce a preocupação com a possível contaminação do ambiente com esses produtos, inclusive em corpos dâ€(tm)água. Diante do exposto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi detectar e quantificar herbicidas, por meio de análise multirresíduo, em amostras de água coletadas em poços semiartesianos e nascentes, em uma área rural da cidade de Jaboticabal (SP). Foram coletadas amostras em 32 poços e 13 nascentes, em três épocas: outubro de 2010, fevereiro e maio de 2011. Foram coletadas, adicionalmente, amostras em uma residência na área urbana. Foi realizada análise por cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência acoplada à espectrometria de massas e foram avaliados os herbicidas ametryn, amicarbazone, clomazone, diclosulan, diuron, hexazinone, imazapic, imazapyr, isoxaflutole, S-metolachlor, sulfentrazone, sulfometuron-methyl e tebuthiuron. Em poços semiartesianos foram encontrados mais herbicidas em relação às nascentes. Entre os herbicidas avaliados, hexazinone, imazapyr e sulfentrazone foram detectados em valores quantificáveis de acordo com o método analítico, ao passo que o clomazone foi o herbicida mais frequente, sendo detectado em mais de 60% das amostras. Foram detectados também os herbicidas ametryn, amicarbazone e diuron. Em nenhuma das amostras foram detectados os herbicidas diclosulan, imazapic, isoxaflutole, S-metolachlor, sulfometuron-methyl e tebuthiuron. A utilização incorreta desses produtos, sem um prévio conhecimento do comportamento deles no solo, faz com que haja contaminação de águas subterrâneas e nascentes, tornando importante o monitoramento constante desse recurso.

Due to the large amount of pesticides applied in agriculture, mainly herbicides, there is a growing concern about a possible environmental contamination with these products, including water bodies. Given the above, the aim of the present work was to detect and quantify herbicides through multiresidue analysis in water samples collected in semi-artesian wells and springs in a rural area of the city of Jaboticabal (SP). Samples were collected from 32 wells and 13 water springs, in three different seasons: October 2010, February 2011 and May 2011. Additionally, samples at a residence in the urban area were also collected. Analysis using high performance liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry was performed and herbicides ametryn, amicarbazone, clomazone, diclosulan, diuron, hexazinone, imazapic, imazapyr, isoxaflutole, S-metolachlor, sulfentrazone, sulfometuron-methyl, and tebuthiuron were evaluated. In semi-artesian wells, an incresed quantity of herbicides was found in comparison with the water springs. Among the tested herbicides, hexazinone, imazapyr and sulfentrazone were detected in measurable amounts in accordance with the analytical method applied, while clomazone was the most common herbicide being detected in more than 60% of the samples. Ametryn, diuron and amicarbazone herbicides were also detected. Diclosulan, imazapic, isoxaflutole, S-metolachlor, sulfometuron-methyl, and tebuthiuron were not detected in any sample. Inappropriate use of these products without prior knowledge of the behavior of the soil can lead to groundwaters and water springs contamination, thus an ongoing monitoring of this resource becomes very important.

A recombinação mitótica é um processo com participação na carcinogênese e com capacidade de induzir perda genética através da perda da heterozigosidade. Os potenciais recombinagênicos de duas drogas anticancerígenas, camptotecina (CPT) e irinotecan (CPT-11), caracterizadas como inibidores da DNA-Topoisomerase I, foram avaliados no presente estudo, utilizando-se o ensaio de homozigotização, que avalia tanto a ocorrência da recombinação mitótica quanto a indução de homozigose, e a linhagem diplóide heterozigota de Aspergillus nidulans, A757//UT448. Três concentrações não-citotóxicas de CPT (3,5 ng mL−1, 10,5 ng mL−1 e 17,4 ng mL−1) induziram tanto recombinação mitótica quanto homozigose gênica. Os tratamentos com CPT produziram diplóides homozigotos para genes nutricionais e de coloração de conídios, bem como Índices de Homozigotização (HI) significativamente diferentes do controle negativo. Em contraste, somente a maior concentração de CPT-11 utilizada (18 µg mL−1), correspondente à dose única máxima utilizada em protocolos de quimioterapia, produziu valores de HI significativamente diferentes do controle negativo. Os efeitos recombinogênicos de ambos bloqueadores de Topoisomerase I foram associados ao reparo recombinacional de quebras no DNA induzidas pelos compostos CPT e CPT-11. Os antineoplásicos CPT e CPT-11 podem ser caracterizados como promotores de malignidades secundárias em pacientes com câncer após tratamento quimioterápico.

Mitotic recombination is a process involved in carcinogenesis which can lead to genetic loss through the loss of heterozygosity. The recombinogenic potentials of two anticancer drugs topoisomerase I inhibitors, camptothecin (CPT) and irinotecan (CPT-11), were evaluated in the present study. The homozygotization assay, which assess the induction of mitotic recombination and gene homozygosis, as well as the heterozygous A757//UT448 diploid strain of Aspergillus nidulanswere employed. The three non-cytotoxic concentrations of CPT (3.5 ng mL−1, 10.5 ng mL−1 and 17.4 ng mL−1) were found to induce both mitotic recombination and gene homozygosis. CPT treatment produced three diploids homozygous, for nutritional and conidia color genes, and Homozygotization Indices (HI) significantly different from negative control. On the other hand, only the highest CPT-11 concentration tested (18 µg mL−1), corresponding to the maximal single chemotherapeutic dose, produced HI values higher than 2.0 and significantly different from negative control HI values. The recombinogenic effects of both topoisomerase I blockers were associated with the recombinational repair of DNA strand breaks induced by CPT and CPT-11. The anticancer drugs CPT and CPT-11 may be characterized as secondary malignancies promoters in cancer patients after chemotherapy treatment.

Avaliaram-se os efeitos de diferentes porcentagens (0, 10, 20 e 30%) de inclusão da torta de macaúba (TM) no comportamento ingestivo de 24 cordeiros Santa Inês, com média de cinco meses de idade e peso vivo de 23,9kg, distribuídos em delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com quatro tratamentos e seis repetições, durante 60 dias de confinamento. Foram avaliados os tempos médios despendidos com alimentação, ruminação (TR), ócio (TO), tempo de mastigação total (TMT), eficiência de alimentação (EA MS e EA FDN) e eficiência de ruminação, além do número de bolos ruminados (NBR) e número diário de mastigações merícicas (MMnd). A adição de TM à dieta aumentou linearmente o TR, TMT, NBR, MMnd e EA FDN e reduziu de forma linear o TO, em consequência do maior teor de fibra em detergente neutro das dietas com o coproduto. Mesmo com o aumento no TMT, não foi verificada diferença no consumo e na eficiência de ruminação e alimentação da matéria seca, possivelmente em razão da baixa efetividade de fibra da TM, demonstrando o potencial de utilização desse coproduto na dieta de ovinos em crescimento.

The effects of different percentages (0, 10, 20 and 30%) of inclusion of macauba meal (MM) on the ingestive behavior of 24 Santa Inês male lambs, averaging five months of age and 23.9kg of initial body weight were studied. The animals were allotted to a completely randomized block design with four treatments and six replications during 60 days of confinement. The variables measured were time spent in rumination (TR), idle time (IT), total chewing (TC), power efficiency (PE DM and PE NDF) and efficiency of rumination, as well as the number of ruminated bolus (NRB) and daily number of chews (Cnd). The addition of MM to the diet increased TR, TC, NRB, Cnb and PE NDF linearly, and reduced IT linearly, as a result of higher content of neutral detergent fiber in the diet. Although there was an increase in TC, no difference was verified in the consumption and efficiency of rumination and feeding of DM, possibly due to the low efficiency of fiber, which demonstrates the potential use of this coproduct in the diet of growing sheep.

Avaliou-se a substituição parcial de farelo de soja na dieta-controle por ureia encapsulada ou por ureia, ambos acrescidos de polpa cítrica. Dezoito vacas foram alocadas a uma sequência de três tratamentos, em seis quadrados latinos 3x3, com períodos de 21 dias. O teor de proteína bruta nas dietas foi 15,5%, cerca de 1,5% oriundo de nitrogênio não proteico (NNP). O uso de NNP reduziu o consumo diário de matéria seca em 0,8kg (P=0,04), sem influenciar a produção de leite (31,5kg, P=0,98). A conversão do alimento em leite foi menor na dieta-controle (P<0,09). As fontes de NNP aumentaram o teor de N-ureico no plasma (NUP) duas horas após a alimentação da manhã (P=0,06). A frequência de NUP acima de 22,0mg/dL foi maior com ureia (P<0,01), similarmente ao observado para o teor e a secreção diária de N-ureico no leite (P<0,01). A substituição de farelo de soja por NNP e polpa cítrica melhorou a eficiência alimentar, sem afetar o balanço de nitrogênio.

The partial replacement of the soybean meal in the control diet for encapsulated urea or urea, both with added citrus pulp was evaluated. Eighteen Holstein cows were allocated to a sequence of the three treatments, in six 3x3 latin squares, with 21-day periods. The dietary level of crude protein was 15.5%, around 1.5% from non-protein nitrogen (NPN). The use of NPN reduced 0.8kg of daily dry matter intake (P=0.04), without affecting milk yield (31.5kg, P=0.98). The conversion of feed into milk decreased for the control diet (P<0.09). The NPN sources increased plasma urea-N (PUN) two hours after the morning feeding (P=0.06). The frequency of PUN above 22.0mg/dL was increased by urea (P<0.01), similarly to the observed for milk urea-N content and daily secretion (P<0.01). The replacement of soybean meal for NPN and citrus pulp improved feed efficiency, without affecting the nitrogen balance.
