Abstract This article is based on a representative and randomly selected sample of 396 individual criminal decisions from the Federal Supreme Court, issued between January 1, 2020, and June 22, 2021, related to the COVID-19 pandemic. We tracked the petitions, the type of imprisonment, the date of judgment, the type of legal action, and the outcomes of these requests. Subsequently, we conducted a qualitative analysis of the arguments employed by the Court in reaching its decisions. The main objective of the study is to understand how the Court ruled on requests for release from incarceration and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in the judicial reasoning. The findings indicate that the pandemic had no relevant impact on the Court’s decision-making process. Dismissals on procedural grounds prevailed, allowing the court to avoid ruling on the merits of a claim. On the other hand, when the merits were analyzed, the pandemic was not treated as a sufficient argument for releasing a prisoner. Additionally, during the pandemic, CNJ’s Recommendation No. 62 and ADPF No. 347 had no argumentative prominence in the few decisions that granted requests for release. This research reinforces the diagnosis that the pandemic has not changed how the Judiciary deals with imprisonment. This finding contributes to understand the challenges in tackling mass incarceration in Brazil.

Resumo Este artigo é baseado em uma amostra representativa e aleatória de 396 decisões monocráticas penais do Supremo Tribunal Federal, proferidas entre 01/01/2020 e 22/06/2021, que mencionam a pandemia de Covid-19. Foram mapeados os pedidos, o tipo de prisão, a data de julgamento, o tipo de ação e o resultado dos pedidos. Em seguida, foi feita uma análise qualitativa dos argumentos utilizados pela Corte para decidir. O objetivo principal do estudo é compreender como a Corte julgou pedidos de desencarceramento e o peso da pandemia de Covid-19 na argumentação judicial. Os dados indicam que a pandemia não teve impacto relevante na forma de decidir do STF em casos de prisão. Prevaleceram os indeferimentos de pedidos de soltura, com significativa mobilização argumentativa de óbices processuais, permitindo que a Corte não se posicionasse sobre questões de mérito. Por outro lado, quando o mérito foi analisado, a pandemia não foi tratada como argumento suficiente para desencarcerar. Ademais, a pandemia, a Recomendação 62 do CNJ e a ADPF 347 não tiveram grande destaque argumentativo nas poucas decisões que concederam pedidos de desencarceramento. A pesquisa reforça o diagnóstico de que a pandemia não mudou o modo como o Judiciário lida com a prisão. Esse achado de pesquisa contribui para a compreensão dos obstáculos para o enfrentamento do superencarceramento no Brasil.

Resumo Introdução: A dissecção endoscópica da submucosa (ESD) é uma técnica endoscópica com demonstrada eficácia nas lesões neoplásicas superficiais colorectais. No entanto, a evidência da sua eficácia nas lesões localizadas na junção ano-rectal é escassa. O nosso objectivo foi avaliar a segurança e eficácia da ESD nas lesões da junção ano-rectal (menos de 2 cm da linha pectínea), em comparação com as lesões mais proximais do recto. Métodos: Análise retrospectiva de registos colhidos prospectivamente de dois centros europeus de referência, entre 2015 e 2021. Resultados: Foram incluídas 252 lesões. Sessenta (24%) localizavam-se na junção ano-rectal, e as restantes 192 noutro local do recto. O sucesso técnico foi de 98% (n = 248) e foi semelhante nas 2 localizações (p = 0.246). A maioria das lesões eram displasias de alto grau/Tis (54%); 36 (15%) tinham adenocarcinoma submucoso, tendo 20 invasão submucosa superficial (sm1) e 16 invasão profunda (>SM1). Não foram encontradas diferenças entre as duas localizações relativamente às taxas de ressecção em bloco (100% vs. 96%, p = 0.204), R0 (76% vs. 75%, p = 0.531), ou curativa (70% vs. 70%, p = 0.920), duração da ESD (mediana 120 min vs. 90 min, p = 0.072), velocidade da ESD (14 vs. 12 mm2/min, p = 0.415) ou resultado histológico (p = 0.053), assim como na necessidade de cirurgia por ESD não curativa (5% vs. 3%, p = 0.739). Além disso, as taxas de hemorragia tardia (7% vs. 8%, p = 0.709), perfuração (0% vs. 5%, p = 0.075) e necessidade de internamento por complicações (2% vs. 2%, p = 0.939) não revelaram diferenças estatisticamente significativas. A estenose ano-rectal (5% vs. 0%, p = 0.003) e a dor ano-rectal (9% vs. 1%, p = 0.002) foram mais frequentes nas lesões da junção ano-rectal. Conclusão: A ESD é uma técnica segura e eficaz no tratamento das lesões do recto localizadas na junção ano-rectal.

Abstract Introduction: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a well-established resection technique for colorectal superficial tumors, but its role in the treatment of anorectal junction (ARJ) lesions still remains to be determined. With this study, we aimed to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of ESD for the resection of ARJ lesions, in comparison to more proximal rectal lesions. Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data concerning all consecutive rectal ESD procedures performed in two European centers, from 2015 to 2021. Results: A total of two hundred and fifty-two rectal lesions were included. Sixty (24%) were ARJ lesions, and the remaining 192 (76%) were located proximally. Technical success was achieved in 248 procedures (98%), and its rate was similar in both locations (p = 0.246). Most of the lesions presented high-grade dysplasia/Tis adenocarcinoma (54%); 36 (15%) had submucosal adenocarcinoma, including 20 superficial (sm1) and 16 deeply invasive (>SM1) T1 cancers. We found no differences between ARJ and rectal lesions in regard to en bloc resection rate (100% vs. 96%, p = 0.204), R0 resection rate (76% vs. 75%, p = 0.531), curative resection rate (70% vs. 70%, p = 0.920), procedures’ median duration (120 min vs. 90 min, p = 0.072), ESD velocity (14 vs. 12 mm2/min, p = 0.415), histopathology result (p = 0.053), and the need for surgery due to a non-curative ESD (5% vs. 3%, p = 0.739). Also, there was no statistically significant difference that concerns delayed bleeding (7% vs. 8%, p = 0.709), perforation (0% vs. 5%, p = 0.075), or the need for readmission (2% vs. 2%, p = 0.939). Nevertheless, anorectal stenosis (5% vs. 0%, p = 0.003) and anorectal pain (9% vs. 1%, p = 0.002) were significantly more frequent in ARJ lesions. Conclusion: ESD is a safe and efficient resection technique for the treatment of rectal lesions located in the ARJ.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to determine the antibiotic profile of microorganisms isolated from urine samples of patients with community urine tract infections (UTI) admitted to the University Hospital of the Federal University of Sao Carlos to support an appropriate local empirical treatment. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2018 to October 2020. Data from 1,528 positive urine cultures for bacterial pathogens and antibiograms were tabulated. Bacterial species prevalence and their resistance profile were analyzed and compared by sex and age. For Gram-negative fermenting bacteria, resistance rates were compared between patients with previous hospitalization and the total of infections caused by this group. For comparisons, the Chi-square test was performed, using Fisher’s exact test when necessary (BioEstat program, adopting p ≤ 0.05). A multivariate analysis was applied to assess the effect of the studied variables in predicting multidrug resistance. Infections were more prevalent in women and older adults. Gram-negative bacteria represented 90.44% of total cultures. In both sexes, E. coli prevalence was significantly higher in adults compared with older adults (p < 0.0001). For several antibiotics, resistance rates were higher in the older adults compared with other ages and in patients with Gram-negative fermenting infections and previous hospitalization compared with the total of infections by this group of bacteria. The closer to the hospitalization, the higher the number of antibiotics with superior resistance rates. Resistance rates for aminoglycosides, carbapenems, ceftazidime, nitrofurantoin, piperacillin+tazobactam, and fosfomycin were less than 20%, considered adequate for empirical treatment. Only hospitalization in the previous 90 days was statistically significant in predicting infections by multidrug-resistant bacteria.

Abstract Tea is identified as the second most consumed drink in the world, and its frequent intake is related to several benefits to human health, considering its antimutagenic, anticarcinogenic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, diuretic, calming, and above all, antioxidant effects. These effects are often associated with the action of the phenolic compounds contained in these infusions. In Brazil, among the most consumed infusions are the teas of chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla L.), lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus (D.C.) Stapf), lemon balm (Melissa officinalis L.), anise (Pimpinella anisum L.), yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis A. St.-Hil), peppermint (Mentha piperita L.), and green/black tea (Camellia sinensis L.). Therefore, said popularity is the reason why the mentioned species were chosen to be evaluated on inflammatory enzymes. The activity of phospholipases A2 was reduced by more than 25% after treatment with black tea and yerba mate. The most significant inhibition of protease activity was observed after incubation with black tea (40.74%), green tea (31.48%) and yerba mate (25.93%). Infusions of black and green tea reduced hemolysis in semisolid and liquid media, and for the latter, reductions of up to 50% of hemolytic activity were observed, indicating an anti-inflammatory potential of the samples. Plasma incubations with green tea, black tea and lemon balm and subsequent addition of venom (1:10 ratio; tea:PBS, v:v) prolonged the coagulation time of citrated plasma by approximately twice compared to the positive control. All controls with pure tea had a thrombolytic character, in higher proportions than the venom control, especially chamomile (273.55% dissolution). Phenolic compounds derived from phenolic acids, flavonoids, and tannins are identified as the main agents that promote the biological effects observed in this study. This is mainly due to their anti-catalytic properties exerted on inflammatory enzymes and as chelating agents of enzymatic co-factors. The evaluated teas showed potential for nutraceutical use, thus pointing to the possibility of use as an adjuvant in the treatment of diseases linked to hemostasis.

Abstract Anthropogenic interventions have had a compromising effect on environmental health, intensifying the degradation of ecosystems, and the quantity of chemical pollutants released into nature. Therefore, research areas within the scope of environmental assessments and monitoring such as ecotoxicology have contributed to the determination of the toxic potential of contaminants. A small cyprinid known as the zebrafish (Danio rerio), the use of which has exponentially grown, is an alternative vertebrate model for scientific research, mainly in the assessment of environmental risks. The species exhibits several advantages for breeding in a laboratory, in addition to presenting multi-biomarkers of environmental toxicity. Thus, this review aims to present the main characteristics and advantages of working with this species, as well as show studies related to ecotoxicology involving biomarkers of toxicity in zebrafish. The results show a progressive trend towards employing the species in environmental risk analyses, it is an increasingly recommended species in the assessment of the toxicity level of a range of chemical pollutants. The development of future technologies must contribute to scientific advancement, rendering the potential application of this model organism an even more widespread one, which will certainly help in bridging knowledge gaps in various areas of study.

Abstract The project for the transposition of the São Francisco River is part of the set of policies for access to water in the Brazilian semi-arid region and has focused on the processes of deterritorialization and vulnerability in the region. The objective of this study was to analyze the processes of vulnerability in peasant communities, resulting from the transposition of the São Francisco River. This is a qualitative study, applying semi-structured interviews and carrying out a workshop with peasants affected by the transposition in the municipality of Sertânia (PE). The theoretical-methodological approach was the social reproduction matrix. Several processes of material and symbolic vulnerability, in addition to health problems, were identified, such as the destruction of water reservoirs, artesian wells, waterholes and fertile land, deterritorialization, the incidence of acute respiratory diseases, resulting from excavations for the construction of canals, and processes related to mental health, relating to social reproduction and to the way of life. The systemic reading anchored in self-awareness and in the conduct of vulnerability processes identified a break in the traditional way of life and effects on physical and mental health of the region inhabitants. The negative effects of this process retroact on historical vulnerabilities in the affected territories, producing new fragilities in these communities.

Resumo O projeto da transposição do rio São Francisco é parte do conjunto de políticas de acesso à água no semiárido brasileiro e tem incidido sobre os processos de desterritorialização e vulnerabilização na região. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar os processos de vulnerabilização em comunidades camponesas, decorrentes das obras da transposição do rio São Francisco. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, com aplicação de entrevistas semiestruturadas e realização de oficina com camponeses atingidos pela transposição no município de Sertânia (PE). O enfoque teórico-metodológico foi a matriz da reprodução social. Foram identificados diversos processos de vulnerabilização material e simbólica, além de agravos à saúde, como a destruição de reservatórios de água, poços artesianos, cacimbas e terras férteis, a desterritorialização, a incidência de doenças respiratórias agudas, decorrente das escavações para construção dos canais, e processos relativos à saúde mental, relacionando-se à reprodução social e ao modo de vida. A leitura sistêmica ancorada na autoconsciência e na conduta dos processos de vulnerabilização identificou uma ruptura do modo de vida tradicional e efeitos à saúde física e mental dos habitantes da região. Os efeitos negativos desse processo retroagem sobre as vulnerabilidades históricas nos territórios afetados, produzindo novas fragilidades nessas comunidades.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Among the complications related to chronic kidney disease (CKD), those of a neurological nature stand out, and for a better quality of life for patients, the diagnosis and treatment of these complications is fundamental. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to assess the effect of hemodialysis on intracranial pressure waveform (ICPw) in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis and those who are not yet undergoing substitutive therapy. DESIGN AND SETTING: An observational study was conducted in two stages at a kidney replacement therapy center in Brazil. The first was a longitudinal study and the second was a cross-sectional study. METHODS: Forty-two patients on hemodialysis were included in the first stage of the study. In the second stage, 226 participants were included. Of these, 186 were individuals with chronic kidney disease (who were not undergoing substitutive therapy), and 40 did not have the disease (control group). The participants’ intracranial compliance was assessed using the non-invasive Brain4care method, and the results were compared between the groups. RESULTS: There was a significant difference between the hemodialysis and non-hemodialysis groups, with the former having better ICPw conditions. CONCLUSIONS: Hemodialysis influenced the improvement in ICPw, probably due to the decrease in the patients’ extra-and intracellular volumes. Furthermore, ICPw monitoring can be a new parameter to consider when defining the moment to start substitutive therapy.

Abstract This observational study aimed to describe and analyze data from two external evaluations of the National Program for Improving Access to and Quality of Dental Specialty Centers (PMAQ CEO), held in 2014 and 2018 in Brazil, which evaluated Dental Specialty Centers (CEO) using a national and census approach. We selected questions through a search in the microdata of the first and second evaluations. The groups were analyzed independently. To compare the groups, nonparametric tests were performed (Mann Whitney U). The formulated hypotheses were: there would be no differences between the data of these groups (h0) and there would be differences between the data of these groups (h1). For qualitative nominal variables, frequency distribution was verified and association tests were performed (chi-square test). The significance level for this study was set at 5%. We observed that orthodontic treatments were found in about 13% of the CEO. Regarding human resources, most professionals were specialists or had MSc or PhD degrees; were civil servants; had been hired by direct administration; or had been hired via public tender. Regarding the work process and inclusion of the CEO in the health care network, we observed a greater number of services that use single and electronic medical records, greater presence of services monitoring and analyzing goals, greater knowledge about monthly average of absenteeism (for 2018); and larger number of services with referrals from primary health care centers (for 2014). Expanding the view on orthodontics and including preventive, interceptive, and corrective treatments at different points in health care networks are essential strategies for achieving comprehensive care in universal health systems.

ABSTRACT The study aimed to evaluate the combined use of ultrasound (US) and incorporation of micronized salt (MS) as a strategy for reducing sodium without affecting the quality of beef burgers. Ten treatments were manufactured with varying MS content (0.75 %, 1.0 %, and 1.5 %) and ultrasound time (0, 5, and 10 min), with a control treatment manufactured at 1.5 % of regular salt without ultrasound. The beef burgers formulated with 0.75 % MS submitted to the US for 10 min (M0.75US10) reduced the salt content by 50 %, thereby efficiently maintaining texture profile (hardness, springiness, cohesiveness, and chewiness) and decreasing the cooking loss and diameter reduction compared to the control treatment. M0.75US10 treatment also preserved the color of samples after cooking, keeping myoglobin stable. Therefore, micronized salt coupled with ultrasound technology reduces sodium chloride content in beef burgers, enabling the application of clean technology to reduce sodium content in meat products efficiently.

Abstract Objective To assess the functional disability level and identify associated factors in people after Ischemic Cerebral Vascular Accident. Methods A prospective cohort, carried out in a reference hospital in neurology with 224 people with ischemic stroke. Data collection took place between March and October 2019. Participants were followed up during hospitalization, when sociodemographic and clinical variables were collected using specific instruments and contacted after 90 days, by telephone call, to apply the Modified Barthel Index. In the analysis, descriptive statistics and Pearson’s chi-square test were applied. Statistical significance of 5% was adopted. Results Most had some degree of functional disability (58.5%), with 29.5% having moderate dependence and 29.0% having severe dependence. The variables being female (p=0.011), time of arrival at the reference hospital greater than or equal to 4.5 hours (p=0.017), previous stroke (p=0.031), not having undergone thrombolysis (p=0.023), having high blood pressure (p=0.032) and greater severity estimated by the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (p=0.000) were associated with a higher disability level. Conclusion Moderate to severe dependence predominated. The severity of the event, previous event, hypertension, non-submission to thrombolysis, delay in arriving at the hospital and female gender were associated with a higher functional disability level.

Resumen Objetivo Evaluar el nivel de incapacidad funcional e identificar los factores asociados en las personas después de un accidente cerebrovascular isquémico. Métodos Cohorte prospectiva, realizada en un hospital de referencia en neurología, con 224 personas con accidente cerebrovascular isquémico. La recopilación de datos se llevó a cabo entre marzo y octubre de 2019. Se acompañó a los participantes durante la internación, momento en que se recopilaron las variables sociodemográficas y clínicas mediante la utilización de instrumentos específicos, y se los contactó 90 días después, por teléfono, para aplicar el Índice de Barthel modificado. En el análisis se aplicó estadística descriptiva y la prueba χ2 de Pearson. Se adoptó significación estadística de 5 %. Resultados La mayoría presentó algún nivel de incapacidad funcional (58,5 %), de los cuales el 29,5 % presentó dependencia moderada y el 29,0 % dependencia severa o grave. Las siguientes variables fueron asociadas a un mayor nivel de incapacidad: sexo femenino (p=0,011), tiempo de llegada al hospital de referencia mayor o igual a 4,5 h (p=0,017), accidente cerebrovascular previo (p=0,031), no haber realizado trombólisis (p=0,023), tener hipertensión arterial (p=0,032) y mayor gravedad estimada por la National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (p=0,000). Conclusión Predominó la dependencia de moderada a grave. La gravedad del evento, evento previo, hipertensión, no realización de trombólisis, retraso de la llegada al hospital y sexo femenino fueron las variables asociadas a un mayor nivel de incapacidad funcional.

Resumo Objetivo Avaliar o nível de incapacidade funcional e identificar os fatores associados em pessoas após Acidente Vascular Cerebral Isquêmico. Métodos Coorte prospectiva, realizada em hospital de referência em neurologia, com 224 pessoas com acidente vascular cerebral isquêmico. A coleta de dados ocorreu entre março a outubro de 2019. Os participantes foram acompanhados durante a internação, quando as variáveis sociodemográficas e clínicas foram levantadas empregando-se instrumentos específicos e contatados após 90 dias, por ligação telefônica, para aplicação do Índice de Barthel modificado. Na análise, aplicou-se estatística descritiva e o teste Qui-quadrado de Pearson. Adotou-se significância estatística de 5%. Resultados A maioria apresentou algum grau de incapacidade funcional (58,5%), sendo que 29,5% apresentaram dependência moderada e 29,0% severa ou grave. As variáveis sexo feminino (p=0,011), tempo de chegada ao hospital de referência maior ou igual a 4,5h (p=0,017), Acidente vascular cerebral prévio (p=0,031), não ter realizado trombólise (p=0,023), ter hipertensão arterial (p=0,032) e maior gravidade estimada pela National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (p=0,000) foram associadas a maior nível de incapacidade. Conclusão Predominou a dependência de moderada a grave. A gravidade do evento, evento prévio, hipertensão, não submissão à trombólise, retardo à chegada ao hospital e sexo feminino foram associados a maior nível de incapacidade funcional.

Abstract Objective To assess emergency service professionals’ sleep quality and its association with the level of fatigue and quality of life. Methods A descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational study, carried out in the units of the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) and in the Emergency Care Unit (ECU), in 2021, with 108 participants. To assess sleep quality, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Brazilian version (PSQI-BR), was used; to assess fatigue, the Chalder Fatigue Scale was used, together with the Need for Recovery Scale (NFR); and to assess quality of life, the World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version (WHOQOL-bref) was used, and the instruments used were adapted to Portuguese in previous studies. Association tests were applied for statistical analysis, using Pearson’s chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U test or Kruskal Wallis and Spearman’s correlation. P-values <0.05 were considered significant. Results It was identified that 72.2% of participants had poor sleep quality and 75.9% were fatigued. A significant association was observed between sleep quality and fatigue, the need for recovery and quality of life. Conclusion It was identified that health professionals working in emergency services have poor sleep quality and life, and high levels of fatigue and need for recovery, which can directly impact their personal and professional activities.

Resumen Objetivo Evaluar la calidad del sueño de profesionales de los servicios de emergencia y su relación con el nivel de fatiga y calidad de vida. Métodos Estudio descriptivo, transversal y correlacional, realizado en las unidades del Servicio de Atención Móbil de Urgencia (SAMU) y en la Unidad de Pronta Atención (UPA), en el año 2021, con 108 participantes. Para evaluar la calidad del sueño, se utilizó el Índice de Calidad del Sueño de Pittsburgh, versión brasileña (PSQI-BR). Para evaluar la fatiga, se utilizó la Escala de Fatiga de Chalder, junto con la Escala de Necesidad de Descanso (ENEDE). Para evaluar la calidad de vida, se utilizó el World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version (WHOQOL-bref). Los instrumentos utilizados fueron adaptados al idioma portugués en estudios anteriores. Se aplicaron pruebas de asociación para el análisis estadístico, para lo cual se utilizó la Prueba χ2 de Pearson, la Prueba U de Mann-Whitney o la prueba de Kruskal-Wallis y la correlación de Spearman. Se consideraron valores de p<0,05 como significativos. Resultados Se identificó que el 72,2 % de los participantes presentó una mala calidad de sueño y el 75,9 % tenía fatiga. Se observó una asociación significativa entre la calidad del sueño y la fatiga, la necesidad de descanso y la calidad de vida. Conclusión Se identificó que los profesionales de la salud que trabajan en servicios de urgencia y emergencia presentaron mala calidad de sueño y de vida y niveles elevados de fatiga y necesidad de descanso, lo que puede impactar directamente en sus actividades personales y profesionales.

Resumo Objetivo Avaliar a qualidade do sono de profissionais dos serviços de emergência e sua associação com o nível de fadiga e qualidade de vida. Métodos Estudo descritivo, transversal e correlacional, realizado nas unidades do Serviço de Atendimento Móvel de Urgência (SAMU) e na Unidade de Pronto Atendimento (UPA), no ano de 2021, com 108 participantes. Para avaliação da qualidade do sono, foi utilizado o Índice de Qualidade do Sono de Pittsburgh versão Brasileira (PSQI-BR); para avaliação da Fadiga, foi utilizada a Escala de Fadiga de Chalder, em conjunto com a Escala de Necessidade de Descanso (ENEDE); e para avaliação da qualidade de vida, foi utilizado o World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version (WHOQOL-bref), sendo que os instrumentos utilizados foram adaptados para a língua portuguesa em estudos anteriores. Foram aplicados testes de associação para a análise estatística, tendo sido utilizados o Teste Qui-Quadrado de Pearson, o Teste U Mann-Whitney ou Kruskal Wallis e a correlação de Spearman. Valores de p <0,05 foram considerados como significativos. Resultados Foi identificado que 72,2% dos participantes apresentaram má qualidade do sono e 75,9% estavam fadigados. Foi observada associação significativa entre a qualidade do sono e a fadiga, a necessidade de descanso e a qualidade de vida. Conclusão Foi identificado que os profissionais de saúde que trabalham em serviço de urgência e emergência apresentam má qualidade do sono e de vida e níveis elevados de fadiga e necessidade de descanso, o que pode impactar diretamente suas atividades pessoais e profissionais.

Abstract. Sandy beaches are among the most extensive coastal ecosystems in Brazil and constitute important buffer zones between terrestrial and marine environments. The present study aimed to analyze the distribution and spatiotemporal variation of the meiofaunal community of an urban tropical sandy beach in northeastern Brazil with a particular focus on nematofauna. We set up 4 transects during 2 sampling periods to evaluate different beach zones. The meiofauna comprised 8 taxa, and the nematofauna consisted of 5 orders, 16 families, and 45 genera. The meiofaunal communities followed the qualitative-quantitative standards of those of other tropical sandy beaches in northeastern Brazil. The nematofaunal community showed variation in its composition and trophic structure between dry and rainy months, which were not significantly correlated with granulometric characteristics. This suggests that other variables may influence the structure of nematofaunal communities in Gaibu Beach. Further research on the biodiversity of the meiofaunal communities on sandy beaches in northeastern Brazil is urgently needed given the lack of available information of these environments and the extreme stress they are currently under.

Resumen. Las playas arenosas son uno de los ecosistemas costeros más extensos de Brasil y constituyen importantes zonas de amortiguamiento entre el ambiente terrestre y el marino. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar la distribución y la variación espaciotemporal de la comunidad meiofaunal de una playa arenosa tropical urbana con particular énfasis en la nematofauna. Establecimos 4 transectos durante 2 periodos de muestreo para evaluar diferentes zonas de playa. La meiofauna estuvo compuesta por 8 taxones, y la nematofauna consistió en 5 órdenes, 16 familias y 45 géneros. Las comunidades meiofaunales siguieron los estándares cualitativos-cuantitativos de las de otras playas arenosas tropicales en el noreste de Brasil. La comunidad nematofaunal presentó variación en su composición y estructura trófica entre los meses secos y los lluviosos, los cuales no presentaron correlación significativa con las características granulométricas. Esto sugiere que otras variables pueden influir en la estructura de las comunidades nematofaunales en la playa de Gaibu. Se requieren urgentemente más estudios de investigación sobre la biodiversidad de las comunidades meiofaunales en las playas arenosas del noreste de Brasil debido a la falta de información disponible sobre estos ambientes y el estrés extremo bajo al que están sujetas.

ABSTRACT Objective: To assess the impact of different vertical positions on lung aeration in patients receiving invasive mechanical ventilation. Methods: An open-label randomized crossover clinical trial was conducted between January and July 2020. Adults receiving invasive mechanical ventilation for > 24 hours and < 7 days with hemodynamic, respiratory and neurological stability were randomly assigned at a 1:1 ratio to the sitting position followed by passive orthostasis condition or the passive orthostasis followed by the sitting position condition. The primary outcome was lung aeration assessed using the lung ultrasound score (score ranges from 0 [better] to 36 [worse]). Results: A total of 186 subjects were screened; of these subjects, 19 were enrolled (57.8% male; mean age, 73.2 years). All participants were assigned to receive at least one verticalization protocol. Passive orthostasis resulted in mean lung ultrasound scores that did not differ significantly from the sitting position (11.0 versus 13.7; mean difference, -2.7; [95%CI -6.1 to 0.71; p = 0.11). Adverse events occurred in three subjects in the passive orthostasis group and in one in the sitting position group (p = 0.99). Conclusion: This analysis did not find significant differences in lung aeration between the sitting and passive orthostasis groups. A randomized crossover clinical trial assessing the impact of vertical positioning on lung aeration in patients receiving invasive mechanical ventilation is feasible. RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar o impacto de diferentes posicionamentos verticais na aeração pulmonar em pacientes em ventilação mecânica invasiva. Métodos: Trata-se de ensaio clínico aberto, randomizado e transversal, realizado entre janeiro e julho de 2020. Adultos em ventilação mecânica invasiva por mais de 24 horas e menos de 7 dias com estabilidade hemodinâmica, respiratória e neurológica foram distribuídos aleatoriamente em uma proporção de 1:1 à postura sentada seguida da condição de ortostatismo passivo ou o ortostatismo passivo seguido de postura sentada. O desfecho primário foi a aeração pulmonar avaliada pelo lung ultrasound score. O escore varia de zero (melhor) a 36 (pior). Resultados: Foram selecionados 186 indivíduos; destes, 19 foram incluídos (57,8% do sexo masculino; média idade de 73,2 anos). Todos os participantes foram selecionados para receber pelo menos um protocolo de verticalização. O ortostatismo passivo resultou em escores médios de aeração pulmonar por ultrassonografia que não diferiram significativamente da postura sentada (11,0 versus 13,7; diferença média, -2,7; IC95% -6,1 a 0,71; p = 0,11). Ocorreram eventos adversos em três indivíduos no grupo ortostatismo passivo e em um no grupo postura sentada (p = 0,99). Conclusão: Esta análise não encontrou diferenças significativas na aeração pulmonar entre os grupos ortostatismo passivo e postura sentada. É factível conduzir um estudo clínico transversal randomizado para avaliar o impacto do posicionamento vertical na aeração pulmonar em pacientes em ventilação mecânica invasiva. Infelizmente, o estudo foi interrompido devido à necessidade de tratar pacientes com COVID-19. Registro ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04176445

Abstract Background: Psychosis is characterized by distortions of thinking and perception, as well as inappropriate emotions. In forensic settings, psychiatric mental health nurses are responsible for preventing violent behaviors through psychotherapeutic interventions. Objective: To characterize participants’ clinical situation based on the following variables: social performance, socially useful activities, personal and social relationships, disturbing and aggressive behavior, assertiveness, and early signs of aggression; and To assess the effectiveness of an intervention program for training social skills and reducing predictors of violence. Methodology: Pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 15 patients admitted to forensic psychiatric wards. Results: The intervention proved effective, with statistically significant changes in personal relationships, disturbing and aggressive behaviors, and early signs of aggression. Conclusion: Training social skills and self-control improved participants’ clinical indicators and psychosocial rehabilitation and contributed to better (re)integrating them into their families and communities.

Resumo Enquadramento: As psicoses são caraterizadas por distorções do pensamento, da perceção e emoções inadequadas. Em contexto forense, cabe ao enfermeiro especialista em saúde mental e psiquiátrica prevenir comportamentos violentos através de intervenções psicoterapêuticas. Objetivo: Caraterizar a situação clínica dos participantes relativamente às variáveis: funcionamento social, atividades socialmente úteis, relações pessoais e sociais, comportamento perturbador e agressivo, assertividade e sinais precoces de agressão; avaliar a eficácia de um programa de intervenção para treino de competências sociais e diminuição de preditores de violência. Metodologia: Estudo pré-experimental, com delineamento de pré e pós-teste com grupo único, cuja amostra foram 15 doentes internados em serviços de psiquiatria forense. Resultados: O programa demonstrou-se eficaz, observando-se mudanças estatisticamente significativas a nível das relações pessoais, dos comportamentos perturbadores e agressivos e dos sinais precoces de agressão. Conclusão: O treino de habilidades sociais e de autocontrolo traduziu-se na melhoria dos indicadores clínicos e na reabilitação psicossocial dos participantes, contribuindo para uma melhor (re)integração na família e na comunidade.

Resumen Marco contextual: La psicosis se caracteriza por distorsiones del pensamiento, de la percepción y de las emociones inapropiadas. En el contexto forense, es responsabilidad del enfermero especialista en salud mental y psiquiátrica prevenir las conductas violentas mediante intervenciones psicoterapéuticas. Objetivo: Caracterizar la situación clínica de los participantes en cuanto a las siguientes variables: funcionamiento social, actividades socialmente útiles, relaciones personales y sociales, comportamiento disruptivo y agresivo, asertividad y signos tempranos de agresión. Evaluar la eficacia de un programa de intervención para entrenar las competencias sociales y reducir los predictores de violencia. Metodología: Estudio preexperimental, con diseño antes y después de la prueba con un único grupo, cuya muestra estaba compuesta por 15 pacientes ingresados en los servicios de psiquiatría forense. Resultados: El programa demostró ser eficaz y se observaron cambios estadísticamente significativos en las relaciones personales, el comportamiento disruptivo y agresivo, y los primeros signos de agresión. Conclusión: El entrenamiento de las competencias sociales y del autocontrol se tradujo en la mejora de los indicadores clínicos y en la rehabilitación psicosocial de los participantes, lo que contribuyó a una mejor (re)integración en la familia y la comunidad.

Abstract Objective: to analyze the factors related to sleep disorders reported by Nursing professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: this is a cross-sectional and analytical study conducted with Nursing professionals from all Brazilian regions. Sociodemographic data, working conditions and questions about sleep disorders were collected. The Poisson regression model with repeated measures was used to estimate the Relative Risk. Results: 572 answers were analyzed, which revealed that non-ideal sleep duration, poor sleep quality and dreams about the work environment were predominant during the pandemic, with 75.2%, 67.1% and 66.8% respectively; as well as complaints of difficulty sleeping, daytime sleepiness and non-restorative sleep during the pandemic were reported by 523 (91.4%), 440 (76.9%) and 419 (73.2%) of the Nursing professionals, respectively. The relative risk of having such sleep disorders during the pandemic was significant for all variables and categories studied. Conclusion: non-ideal sleep duration, poor sleep quality, dreams about the work environment, complaints regarding difficulty sleeping, daytime sleepiness and non-restorative sleep were the predominant sleep disorders among Nursing professionals during the pandemic. Such findings point to possible consequences on health, as well as on the quality of the work performed.

Resumen Objetivo: analizar los factores relacionados con los trastornos del sueño que informaron los profesionales de enfermería durante la pandemia de COVID-19. Método: se trata de un estudio transversal y analítico realizado con profesionales de enfermería de todas las regiones de Brasil. Se recolectaron datos sobre caracterización sociodemográfica, condiciones de trabajo y preguntas sobre trastornos del sueño. Para estimar el Riesgo Relativo se utilizó el modelo de regresión de Poisson con medidas repetidas. Resultados: se analizaron 572 respuestas, que revelaron que durante la pandemia predominaron la duración del sueño no ideal, la mala calidad del sueño y los sueños sobre el ambiente laboral, con 75,2%, 67,1% y 66,8% respectivamente, además 523 (91,4%), 440 (76,9%) y 419 (73,2%) profesionales de enfermería manifestaron quejas de dificultad para conciliar el sueño, somnolencia diurna y sueño no reparador durante la pandemia, respectivamente. El riesgo relativo de padecer trastornos del sueño durante la pandemia fue significativo para todas las variables y categorías estudiadas. Conclusión: la duración del sueño no ideal, la mala calidad del sueño, los sueños sobre el ambiente laboral, las quejas de dificultad para conciliar el sueño, la somnolencia diurna y el sueño no reparador fueron los trastornos del sueño predominantes en los profesionales de enfermería durante la pandemia. Estos hallazgos indican posibles consecuencias para la salud, así como para la calidad del trabajo realizado.

Resumo Objetivo: analisar os fatores relacionados às alterações no sono relatadas pelos profissionais de enfermagem durante a pandemia de COVID-19. Método: trata-se de um estudo transversal e analítico, realizado com profissionais de enfermagem de todas as regiões do Brasil. Foram coletados dados de caracterização sociodemográfica, condições de trabalho e questões sobre alterações de sono. Para estimar o Risco Relativo foi utilizado o modelo de regressão de Poisson com medidas repetidas. Resultados: foram analisadas 572 respostas, as quais revelaram que a duração não ideal do sono, a má qualidade do sono e os sonhos com o ambiente de trabalho foram predominantes durante a pandemia, com 75,2%, 67,1% e 66,8% respectivamente, assim como as queixas de dificuldade ao dormir, sonolência diurna e sono não restaurador durante a pandemia foram relatadas por 523 (91,4%), 440 (76,9%) e 419 (73,2%) dos profissionais de enfermagem, respectivamente. O risco relativo de apresentar tais alterações de sono, durante a pandemia foi significativo para todas as variáveis e as categorias estudadas. Conclusão: duração não ideal do sono, má qualidade do sono, sonhos com o ambiente de trabalho, queixas de dificuldade ao dormir, sonolência diurna e sono não restaurador foram as alterações do sono predominantes entre os profissionais de enfermagem durante a pandemia. Estes achados apontam para possíveis consequências na saúde, bem como na qualidade do trabalho realizado.
