ABSTRACT Objective: to identify the profile and intensity of the care provided by grandparents to grandchildren. Method: a descriptive and cross-sectional study by means of systematized random sampling, with application of a semi-structured questionnaire and execution of descriptive exploratory analysis. It was conducted in 2019 in the municipality of Triângulo Mineiro - Brazil. Results: a total of 392 grandparents caring for grandchildren were interviewed, mostly women (87.5%), retired (67.3%), with incomplete Elementary School (52.8%), hypertensive (71.9%) and with vision problems (69.4%). The main reason for the caregiver role was the fact that the parents had to work, and intensity of the care provided to the grandchildren was high. Conclusion: it is considered that the care relationship between grandparents and grandchildren is an invisible aspect to the scientific production and in the structuring of health programs, despite its impacts on older adults’ health status. The study broadens their visibility, with the need to unveil this topic so that it is possible to integrate them and strengthen public and social policies, especially in the health sector, given that it is an emerging phenomenon.

RESUMEN Objetivo: identificar el perfil y la intensidad del cuidado que realizan los abuelos de sus nietos. Método: estudio descriptivo, transversal, con muestreo aleatorio sistemático, mediante cuestionario semiestructurado y análisis descriptivo exploratorio. Realizado en el municipio del Triángulo Minero - Brasil, 2019. Resultados: se entrevistó a 392 abuelos que cuidaban a sus nietos, la mayoría eran mujeres (87,5 %), jubiladas (67,3 %), con primaria incompleta (52,8 %), hipertensión (71,9 %) y problemas visuales (69,4 %). La principal razón para que cuiden de ellos era que los padres trabajaban y la intensidad del cuidado de los nietos era intensiva. Conclusión: se considera que la relación de cuidado entre abuelos y nietos es un aspecto invisible en la producción científica y en la estructuración de programas de salud, a pesar de los impactos que tiene en la condición de salud de los adultos mayores. El estudio amplía la visión sobre los mismos dado que es necesario dilucidar este tema para que puedan ser efectivamente integrados y fortalecer las políticas públicas y sociales, especialmente en el sector salud, dado que se trata de un fenómeno emergente.

RESUMO Objetivo: identificar o perfil e a intensidade de cuidado dos avós para com os netos. Método: estudo descritivo, transversal, por amostra aleatória sistematizada, utilizado questionário semiestruturado e empreendida análise exploratória descritiva. Realizado no município do Triângulo Mineiro - Brasil, 2019. Resultados: entrevistados 392 avós cuidadores de netos, maioria mulheres (87,5%), aposentadas (67,3%), ensino fundamental incompleto (52,8%), hipertensas (71,9%) e problemas visuais (69,4%). O motivo principal de cuidado foi pelos pais trabalharem e a intensidade de cuidado junto aos netos foi intensiva. Conclusão: considera-se que a relação de cuidado entre avos e netos é um aspecto invisível à produção científica e na estruturação de programas de saúde, apesar de seus impactos à condição de saúde dos idosos. O estudo amplia a visão aos mesmos sendo necessário o desvelar deste tema para que se possa efetivamente integrá-los e fortalecer políticas públicas e sociais, notadamente no setor saúde, dado ser um fenômeno emergente.

Resumen Debido a que en Brasil, la producción de peras es reducida en relación con la demanda anual, la expansión del cultivo a regiones no tradicionales es esencial. En condiciones tropicales semiáridas, el peral presenta un crecimiento vegetativo vigoroso que influye negativamente en la diferenciación floral, en el desarrollo de yemas florales y en conse cuencia, en el rendimiento de frutos. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar la eficiencia del paclobutrazol (PBZ) en la inhibición de la biosíntesis de giberelinas y en la producción de carbohidratos en cultivares de pera ‘Santa Maria’ y ‘Hosui’, en condiciones semiáridas. Se realizaron dos experimentos, uno para cada cultivar. El diseño experimental consistió en bloques al azar, con arreglo factorial (5x2x4) según dosis del PBZ (0,0; 0,5; 1,0; 1,5 y 2,0 g por metro lineal de canopia), forma de aplicación del PBZ (edáfica o foliar) y fechas de evaluación (30, 60, 90 y 120 días después de la aplicación del PBZ). La aplicación de PBZ a través del suelo o las hojas inhibe la biosíntesis de giberelinas en los cultivares de pera ‘Santa Maria’ y ‘Hosui’, afectando los niveles de carbohidratos solubles en hojas totales y reduce el crecimiento de brotes para ambos cultivares. Aunque el PBZ se podría utilizar en el manejo del peral, se requieren más estudios para determinar prácticas de manejo espe cíficas en zonas tropicales semiáridas.

Abstract Given that Brazilian pear production is unable to meet the annual demand, to consider the possible expansion to non-traditional growing regions, turns interesting. Even though under tropical semi-arid conditions pear trees have vigorous vegetative growth, a negative influence on flower bud differentiation and formation affects fruit yield. Our study aimed to evaluate the inhibition efficiency of paclobutrazol (PBZ) on gibberellin biosynthesis, vegetative growth, and carbohydrate production in two pear-tree cultivars (‘Santa Maria’ and ‘Hosui’) grown under semi-arid conditions. To this end, two experiments were conducted, one for each pear-tree cultivar. The experimental designs consisted of randomized blocks, with factorial arrangement (5x2x4), corresponding to PBZ doses (0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 g per linear meter of plant canopy), PBZ application forms (soil and foliar), and evaluation dates (30, 60, 90, and 120 days after application). Both soil and foliar applications inhibited gibberellin biosynthesis in both cultivars, especially after 120 days of application. PBZ affected leaf total soluble carbohydrates and reduced sprout growth in both cultivars. Although PBZ can be potentially used in pear management, further studies are still required to determine specific management practices in tropical semi-arid zones.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the effects of daily phase feeding (DP) and sequential feeding (SEQ) on the feeding behavior, performance, and body composition of growing-finishing pigs. Sixty barrows at 29.7 ± 2.8 kg body weight (BW) were assigned to one of four treatments: DP with a blended proportion of feeds A (high nutrient density) and B (low nutrient density) was adjusted to match 100 % of daily amino acid (AA) diet recommendations (DP100); a negative treatment, which matched 70 % of daily AA diet recommendations (DP70); and two SEQ with a blend of feeds A and B, adjusted twice a day (at 00h00 and 12h00), to match 70 or 110 % of daily AA diet recommendations during two 12 h intervals: SEQ110-70 and SEQ70-110. DP70 and SEQ showed a lower feed consumption rate compared to DP100 (p < 0.05). Compare to DP100, pigs in both SEQ programs had a similar average daily feed intake (ADFI), average daily gain (ADG), feed efficiency ratio (G:F) and body fat and lean mass ( p > 0.05). SEQ110-70 and SEQ70-110 showed similar ADFI, ADG, G:F and body lean mass (p > 0.05). However, fat gain was greater in SEQ110-70 than in SEQ70-110 (p < 0.05). Overall, the SEQ program does not improve performance and body composition. Furthermore, feeding pigs a diet with a higher AA level during the first 12 h of the day and a lower AA level during the remainder of the day increases fat deposition.

Resumen Objetivo: Caracterizar la mortalidad neonatal temprana y tardía en el estado de Rio Grande do Norte (Brasil) en el periodo 2008-2017. Metodología: Estudio epidemiológico descriptivo temporal de enfoque cuantitativo retrospectivo, con datos del Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde (DATASUS) sobre muertes neonatales ocurridas entre enero de 2008 y diciembre de 2017 en el estado de Rio Grande do Norte por lugar de residencia. Resultados: La muestra consideró un total de 4.531 muertes, siendo las más frecuentes: muerte neonatal temprana (79,65 %), sexo masculino (54,71 %), embarazo de menos de 27 semanas (34,05 %), parto vaginal (49,93 %), recién nacidos con menos de 2,500 g de peso (68,57 %) y madres con 8 a 11 años de escolaridad. Entre 2008, el año inicial de recolección, y 2017, el año final, la mortalidad neonatal disminuyó en 23,83 %. La mortalidad masculina fue mayor que la femenina en todos los años, oscilando entre 0,09 y 0,08, respectivamente. La prueba de independencia de chi-cuadrado mostró una asociación entre el tipo de parto y la mortalidad neonatal p < 0,001. Conclusión: Los datos de la investigación muestran una reducción de la mortalidad neonatal en la región de estudio, al tiempo que señalan la necesidad de fortalecer algunas acciones en el período gestacional para evitar condiciones que favorezcan la mortalidad infantil, como el nacimiento prematuro y la desnutrición. Otros datos se refieren al diligenciamiento de declaraciones de neonatos vivos y defunciones, debido a que muchas variables presentaron el ítem "ignorado", refiriéndose al suministro de información incorrecta o incompleta.

Abstract Objective: To characterize early and late neonatal mortality in the state of Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil) from 2008 to 2017. Methodology: Descriptive, temporal epidemiological study under a retrospective quantitative approach, with data from the sus Department of Informatics (DATASUS) on neonatal deaths occurred between January 2008 and December 2017 in the state of Rio Grande do Norte by place of residence. Results: The sample consisted of a total of 4,531 deaths, the most prevalent being: early neonatal death (79.65 %), male gender (54.71 %), pregnancy of less than 27 weeks (34.05 %), childbirth type (49.93 %), newborns weighing less than 2,500g (68.57 %), and mothers with 8 to 11 years of schooling. Between 2008, the initial year of collection, and 2017, the final year, neonatal mortality decreased by 23.83 %. Male mortality was higher than female in all years, ranging between 0.09 and 0.08, respectively. The chi-square independence test showed an association between type of delivery and neonatal mortality of p < 0.001. Conclusion: Research data show a reduction of neonatal mortality in the RN state, while pointing the need to strengthen actions during the gestational period in order to avoid conditions favorable to infant mortality such as prematurity and malnutrition. Other proven data refers to the filing of "live birth" or "death" statements, where several variables presented the item "ignored," referring to incorrect or non-filling information.

Resumo Objetivo: Caracterizar a mortalidade neonatal precoce e tardia no estado do Rio Grande do Norte de 2008 a 2017. Metodologia: Estudo epidemiológico descritivo, temporal de abordagem quantitativa retrospectiva, com dados do Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde (DATASUS) sobre os óbitos neonatais ocorridos entre janeiro de 2008 e dezembro de 2017 no estado do Rio Grande do Norte por local de moradia. Resultados: A amostra foi composta de um total de 4.531 óbitos, sendo mais prevalente óbito neonatal precoce (79,65 %), sexo masculino (54,71 %), gestação inferior a 27 semanas (34,05 %), parto do tipo vaginal (49,93 %), recém-nascidos com peso menor que 2.500 g (68,57 %) e mães com escolaridade entre 8 e 11 anos de estudo. Entre 2008, ano inicial de coleta, e 2017, ano final, a mortalidade neonatal apresentou redução de 23,83 %. A mortalidade masculina se apresentou maior que a feminina em todos os anos, com variação entre 0,09 e 0,08 respectivamente. O teste de qui-quadrado de independência mostrou que existe associação entre o tipo de parto e a mortalidade neonatal p < 0,001. Conclusão: Os dados da pesquisa evidenciam a redução da mortalidade neonatal no estado, ao mesmo tempo que aponta para a necessidade do fortalecimento de ações no período gestacional a fim de evitar condições favoráveis à mortalidade infantil, como a prematuridade e a desnutrição. Outro dado comprovado refere-se ao preenchimento das declarações de nascido vivo e óbito, visto que muitas variáveis apresentaram o item "ignorado" referente ao preenchimento incorreto ou não preenchimento da informação.

Abstract This study evaluated the effect of the extract of Aloe vera at concentrations of 10% and 20% on the cryopreservation of sperm from the epididymis of domestic cats. Epididymal spermatozoa were recovered using the flotation technique and used in the treatments: control (TRIS-egg yolk at 20%), T10% (TRIS plus 10% of A. vera extract), and T20% (TRIS plus 20% of A. vera extract). The spermatozoa were subjected to 4ºC for 60 minutes, followed by 20 minutes in nitrogen vapors, and stored in a cryogenic cylinder. The samples were thawed at 37°C for 30 seconds. The sperm motility decreased (P<0.05) after thawing in the three treatments. Only the spermatozoa in the control treatment maintained post-thawing vigor. The viability of spermatozoa decreased in the treatments with A. vera (P<0.05). According to the hypoosmotic test, all treatments maintained the sperm membrane functionality (P>0.05) during freezing; however, after thawing, it decreased (P<0.05) in the T10% and T20% treatments. The morphology and chromatin condensation of spermatozoa did not differ, regardless of the treatments and time of evaluation (P>0.05). The effect of the crude A. vera extract was not satisfactory on the cryopreservation of epididymal spermatozoa of domestic cats after thawing; although the motility of spermatozoa was similar to that found with the use of egg yolk, and it presented maintenance of the chromatin integrity. However, it is necessary to understand the action of the substances present in A. vera with the feline spermatozoa, well as the standardization and adjustment of physicochemical characteristics aiming at the future application of the vegetal extract.

Abstract INTRODUCTION: This study evaluated knowledge about HIV/AIDS in elders using the services of Family Health Strategy. METHODS: Cross-sectional, descriptive, and analytical study involving 238 participants. Mini-Mental State Examination and QHIV3I were applied. RESULTS: About 30% of participants had active sexual lives and 5.5% used condoms consistently. The question with the highest score of right answers was about transmission through needles (95%) and the lowest (52.5%) was about whether individuals infected with the virus always displayed symptoms. CONCLUSIONS: It is necessary to train health professionals to develop actions that encourage elders to take preventive measures.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the behavior of immunocastrated male pigs compared with females and castrated males during the period before and after full immunization. A total of 30 animals were divided into three treatments, with ten animals in each (females, barrows, and immunocastrated males). The experiment was divided into three periods: 70 to 80 days of age (period 1), 81 to 110 days of age (period 2), and 111 to 140 days of age (period 3). The behavior of animals during these stages was evaluated. Immunocastrated males showed a higher rate of aggressive and sexual behavior during period 2, which decreased after the second vaccine dose. Both barrows and immunocastrated males presented high locomotion in period 1, reducing the frequency of this activity in period 3. All analyzed animals had a higher level of activities such as drinking, playing, and sexual behavior in period 1 than in the other periods, decreasing during the experiment. The remaining behavioral responses did not differ between the studied categories. Immunocastrated males had higher proportions of undesirable behaviors (aggressive and sexual) related to the surgically castrated males and females, and these were reduced after the second vaccine dose. Immunocastration is effective in the reduction of behaviors such as agonistic and sexual at the same levels observed in females and surgically castrated males. However, immunocastrated pigs are more subject to these undesirable behaviors before full immunization.

O estudo foi conduzido com o objetivo de avaliar o desenvolvimento microbiológico em carne suína PSE em comparação à carne normal e o efeito da época do ano sobre a velocidade de proliferação dos mesmos. Amostras do músculo Longissimus dorsi de carcaças classificadas ao abate como PSE (pH45<5,8) e normais (pH45>5,8), foram coletadas após 24 horas de refrigeração, no momento da desossa, em um abatedouro comercial, com serviço de inspeção federal, situado na região da Grande Dourados (MS). As amostras (12 normais e 12 PSE) foram coletadas em duas épocas distintas do ano (outono e inverno) para as análises de coliformes totais, coliformes a 45ºC, mesófilos, psicotróficos, pseudômonas, bolores e leveduras aos 0, 5, 10 e 15 dias de armazenamento por refrigeração. O crescimento microbiano comportou-se de maneira semelhante entre os dois tipos de carne ao longo do período de armazenamento, exceto para a contagem de microorganismos aeróbios mesófilos totais, cujo desenvolvimento foi superior em carnes PSE até o 5º dia de armazenamento, igualando-se entre os dois tipos de carne posteriormente. Houve efeito da época do ano sobre a contagem de coliformes totais e a 45ºC, sendo sua velocidade de proliferação superior em carnes provenientes dos animais abatidos na época mais quente (outono).

The study was conducted to evaluate the microbiological development in PSE pork compared with normal meat and the effect of season of the year on the rate of proliferation of the same. Longissimus dorsi muscle samples from carcasses classified as PSE slaughter (pH45 <5.8) and normal (pH45 > 5.8) were collected after 24 hours of refrigeration, at the time of deboning, in a commercial slaughterhouse, with service federal inspection, located in the Grande Dourados region (MS). The samples (12 normal and 12 PSE) were collected at two different times of the year (fall and winter) for analysis of total and 45ºC coliforms, mesophylls, psychotropic, pseudomonas, yeasts and molds at 0, 5, 10 and 15 days of storage under refrigeration. Microbial growth behaved similarly between the two types of meat throughout the storage period, except for the count of mesophilic aerobic microorganisms, whose development was superior in PSE meat until the 5th day storage, matching between both types of meat later. Was no effect of season on the count of total coliforms and 45ºC, and their proliferation rate higher in meat from the slaughtered animals the warmer season (autumn).

Objetivou-se avaliar as características físicas e sensoriais da carne suína PSE, suas correlações e os prejuízos causados para a indústria, em função de sua ocorrência. Em abatedouro comercial aferiu-se o pH das carcaças (n=1601) aos 45 minutos post mortem (pH45), classificou-as em PSE (pH45<5,8) ou normais (pH45≥5,8). Após 24 horas de resfriamento, foram coletadas amostras do músculo Longissimus dorsi de 26 carcaças PSE e 26 normais, que foram avaliadas quanto à coloração (L*, a*, b*), perda de exsudato, perda de peso por cozimento, força de cisalhamento, atributos sensoriais (maciez, suculência e palatabilidade) e composição centesimal. Foram avaliadas as correlações entre parâmetros físicos e sensoriais. A incidência de carnes PSE foi de 10,06%. O pH final, perda de peso por cozimento, força de cisalhamento e composição centesimal não diferiram entre os tipos de carne. A perda de exsudato foi, aproximadamente, 39% maior para carne PSE. O pH45 correlacionou-se, negativamente, com L* (R= -0,331) e b* (R= -0,528). A suculência correlacionou-se, positivamente, com a palatabilidade (R= 0,436) e maciez (R= 0,297) e, negativamente, com a perda de peso por cozimento (R= -0,326). A força de cisalhamento apresentou correlação positiva com perda de exsudato (R= 0,529) e negativa com maciez (R= -0,767). O prejuízo estimado em função da ocorrência de carnes PSE foi da ordem de R$340.800,00 anuais. Carnes PSE apresentam alterações negativas nas propriedades funcionais e sensoriais, relacionadas com a redução de sua capacidade de retenção de água, o que causa perdas consideráveis para a indústria processadora.

The work was carried out to evaluate the physical and sensory characteristics of PSE pork, their correlations and damages caused to the industry because of its occurrence. In a commercial slaughterhouse has measured the pH of carcasses (n = 1601) at 45 minutes post mortem (pH45), classified them into PSE (pH45 < 5.8) or normal (pH45≥ 5.8). After 24 hours of cooling were collected the samples from the Longissimus dorsi muscle of the 26 normal and 26 PSE carcasses that were evaluated for color (L*, a*, b*), exudate loss, cooking loss, shear force, sensory attributes (tenderness, juiciness and flavor) and centesimal composition. Were evaluated the correlations between the physical and sensory parameters. The final pH, cooking loss, shear force and centesimal composition did not differ between the types of meat. The exudate loss was 39% higher for the PSE meat. The pH45 was negatively correlated with L* (R= -0.331) and b* (R = -0.528). The juiciness was positively correlated with flavor (r = 0.436) and tenderness (R = 0.297) and negatively with cooking loss (R = -0.326). The shear force was positively correlated with exudate loss (R = 0.529) and negatively with tenderness (R = -0.767). The estimated loss due to the occurrence of PSE meat were of R$340,800.00 per year. The PSE meat show negative changes in the functional and sensory properties, almost all related to reducing its water holding capacity, causing considerable losses to the processing industry.
