RESUMO O acúmulo e as transformações da matéria orgânica do solo são fundamentais para a manutenção e melhoria dos atributos químicos, físicos e biológicos do solo, e, consequentemente, para o funcionamento das florestas tropicais. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a influência de florestas secundárias com diferentes estádios sucessionais na matéria orgânica do solo, nos estoques de carbono e nitrogênio e na fertilidade do solo. Foram selecionadas três áreas de Floresta Estacional Semidecidual, com diferentes estádios sucessionais, sendo estas: floresta em estádio inicial - FEI, floresta em estádio médio - MSF e floresta em estádio avançado - FEA, localizadas em Pinheiral, RJ. Foram determinados os valores de carbono e nitrogênio total, estoques de C e nitrogênio, isótopo δ13C (%°), fracionamento químico e granulométrico da matéria orgânica do solo e fertilidade do solo. Por meio dos valores do isótopo δ13C (%°) verificou-se que a maior parte do carbono do solo dos diferentes estádios sucessionais é oriunda das espécies florestais (plantas C3). As áreas com maior tempo de sucessão (FEM e FEA) promoveram maiores teores e estoques de carbono e nitrogênio, e carbono associado aos minerais em comparação à ISF. Adicionalmente, na FEA observaram-se aumentos dos teores de fósforo, ácido fúlvico, ácido húmico e redução dos valores de densidade do solo quando comparada as demais áreas. A FEM apresentou, de maneira geral, maior fertilidade do solo. Este estudo destaca a importância das florestas secundárias que, mesmo em fases iniciais de sucessão, possuem grande potencial em estocar e estabilizar carbono orgânico no solo.

ABSTRACT The accumulation and transformation of organic matter in the soil are fundamental for the maintenance and improvement of the chemical, physical, and biological attributes of the soil, and consequently, for the tropical forests functioning. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of secondary forests with different successional stages on soil organic matter, carbon and nitrogen stocks, and soil fertility. Three areas of seasonal semideciduous forest, located in Pinheiral - RJ, with different successional stages were selected: initial stage forest - ISF, medium stage forest - MSF, and advanced stage forest - ASF. The values of total carbon and nitrogen, C and N stocks, δ13C (‰) isotope, chemical and granulometric fractionation of soil organic matter, and soil fertility were determined. Based on the values of δ 13C (‰), it was verified that most of the soil carbon of the different successional stages comes from forest species (C3 plants). The areas with the highest succession time (MSF and ASF) possess higher levels of carbon and nitrogen contents and stocks, and carbon associated with minerals compared to ISF. In addition, ASF showed increased phosphorus, fulvic acid, humic acid, whereas soil density exhibited reduced values when compared to that of other areas. The MSF showed, in general, greater fertility of the soil. This study emphasizes the importance of secondary forests that, even in the initial stages of succession, have great potential to store and stabilize organic carbon in the soil.

ABSTRACT: In banana cultivation, fertilization recommendations are almost exclusively based on soil chemical analysis, without considering leaf analysis and expected yield, which can help in the adjustment of fertilization programs. The aim of this study was to develop a method to recommend macronutrient fertilization rates which integrates data on leaf analysis, soil chemical analysis, and yield. Yield, soil chemical analysis, and leaf analysis data of fertigated plantations of ‘Prata’ banana were obtained for the first and second halves of the years from 2010 to 2015. Yield was correlated with soil organic matter (SOM) and soil contents of macronutrients (P, K, Ca, and Mg) to obtain the critical level (CLNui). Then, leaf nutrient contents were plotted on a dispersion graph as a function of soil contents using the method of Quadrant Diagram of the Plant-Soil Relationship (QDpsR). Based on leaf analysis, recommended rates were simulated for four plots and compared with rates recommended by other methods. The values of CLNui obtained were 13.2 g dm−3for SOM; 97.5 and 91.5 mg dm−3for P and K; and 2.71 and 0.61 cmolc dm−3for Ca2+and Mg2+. The rates recommended based on leaf analysis diverged from the recommendations of Ferticalc®-Bananeira and the Recommendation Table for Banana Fertilization; in plots for which recommendations were made, there were higher rates of P2O5 and Ca and lower rates of K2O. However, in most cases, applications were not recommended, either because contents in leaves and soil were adequate or because yield was being limited by non-nutritional factors or, if nutritional, related to other nutrient(s). Leaf analysis satisfactorily adjusts the recommended rates of nutrients and has advantages if incorporated in nutritional balance models.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi quantificar os diferentes compartimentos da matéria orgânica de solos sob floresta no estado do Acre. Perfis de solo foram descritos e coletados nos terços superior, terço médio e terço inferior da paisagem localizados nos municípios de Sena Madureira, Manoel Urbano e Feijó, no estado do Acre. Os solos foram caracterizados quanto à composição química, física, frações húmicas e frações oxidáveis. Os teores de carbono orgânico estão concentrados nos horizontes superficiais dos solos, destacados pelo decréscimo abrupto em relação aos demais horizontes. Os teores da argila e de cátions atuam de forma mais efetiva na dinâmica da matéria orgânica em detrimento à posição na paisagem e classe de solo. As análises multivariadas indicam maior similaridade entre os pontos de Sena Madureira (T1) e de Feijó (T3), exceto o ponto do terço superior de Feijó, que é semelhante ao Manoel Urbano (T2).

ABSTRACT This study aimed to quantify the different compartments of organic matter from under forest soils in Acre state. Soil profiles were described and sampled on shoulder, backslope and footslope landscape positions located in the counties of Sena Madureira, Manoel Urbano and Feijó, Acre state. Soils were characterized by chemically and physically attribute, humic and oxidizable fractions. The organic carbon is concentrated in the superficial soil horizons, highlighted by the sharp decrease in relation to other horizons. The clay and cations act more effectively on organic matter dynamics than the landscape position and soil class. Multivariate analyzes indicate high similarity between the sites of Sena Madureira (T1) and Feijó (T3), except the shoulder site from Feijó, which is similar to Manoel Urbano (T2).

As substâncias húmicas (SH) representam o principal reservatório de carbono orgânico total do solo (COT) e sua partição entre diferentes frações de solubilidade em meio alcalino ou ácido pode guardar relação com o tipo de solo e manejo adotado. O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar a partição das SHs, de acordo com profundidade, tipo de solo, bioma e uso do solo no Brasil. Revisou-se a literatura, incluindo teses, dissertações, artigos e resumos em anais de eventos, em busca de dados sobre o teor de COT, sua porcentagem como ácidos húmicos (AH), ácidos fúlvicos (AF) e humina (HU) e a razão AH/AF. Os dados foram estratificados por intervalos comparáveis de profundidades (0-5, 5-10, 0-20, 20-50, 50-100 e >100 cm), biomas (Mata Atlântica, Cerrado, Amazônia, Pampa e Caatinga), ordem de solo (Argissolo, Latossolo, Cambissolo, Planossolo, Neossolo, Gleissolo e Organossolo) e principais usos do solo (florestas nativas, pastagem natural, pastagem plantada, eucalipto, culturas perenes e anuais). Os dados foram analisados por estatística descritiva, correlações de Spearman e análise de componentes principais (ACP). Nos Argissolos, Latossolos e Organossolos, a fração HU contribuiu com metade do COT, tendendo a diminuir em profundidade. Para Latossolos e Organossolos, a fração AF tendeu a aumentar em profundidade. Em Neossolos, a fração AH aumentou em profundidade, embora tenha diminuído em Gleissolos e Planossolos. A razão AH/AF geralmente diminui em profundidade. Pela ACP, não foi possível identificar um padrão de agrupamento das amostras em razão do tipo de bioma e uso do solo, sugerindo que a partição das SHs tem baixo potencial como indicador de efeitos do manejo ou condições ambientais, embora seja útil para discriminar processos de humificação em algumas ordens de solo.

Humic substances (HS) are the main pool of total soil organic carbon (TOC). They are partitioned in different fractions according to its solubility in alkali or acid medium, which can be related to soil type and management. This work aimed to compare HS partitioning in Brazilian soils according to soil depth, soil type, biome, and land uses. In a literature review of theses, dissertations, journal articles, and abstracts in proceedings, quantitative data on TOC partitioning in humic acids (HA), fulvic acids (FA), and humin (HU), as well as the HA/FA ratio were compiled. The data were sorted according to comparable depths (0-5, 5-10, 0-20, 20-50, 50-100, and >100 cm), biomes (Atlantic rainforest, Cerrado savanna, Amazon rainforest, southern prairies, and Caatinga scrubland), soil order (Ultisols, Oxisols, Inceptisols, Entisols, Histosols and soils with aquic moisture regimes), and land use systems (native forests, prairies, pastures, eucalypt, and annual or perennial crops). Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Spearman correlation, and principal component analysis (PCA). In Ultisols, Oxisols, and Histosols, humin accounted for at least half of TOC and tended to decrease with depth. In Oxisols and Histosols, FA tended to increase in depth. In the Entisols, HA increased with depth, but decreased in Histosols and some Ultisols. Generally, the HA/FA decreased in the deeper layers. Results of PCA indicated no effect of biomes and land use systems on the quantitative partitioning of HS, suggesting its low potential as indicator of management effects or environmental conditions, although useful to discriminate humification processes in some soil taxa.

Os solos do Estado do Acre na maioria são formados sobre material de origem com grande influência da orogênese Andina, com elevados teores de Ca2+, Mg2+ e Al3+ concomitantemente, associado às combinações diferenciadas dos valores da CTC, V e m. O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar e classificar os solos de uma topossequência sobre material sedimentar da Formação Solimões, no município de Feijó, Acre. Foram abertas trincheiras em três pontos de uma topossequência: terço superior (P1), terço médio (P2) e terço inferior (P3). Os solos foram analisados quanto a morfologia, granulometria (areia, silte e argila), complexo sortivo (Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+ e Al3+), acidez potencial (H+Al), P assimilável, pH (água e KCl), superfície específica, ataque sulfúrico (óxidos de Fe, Al, Ti e Si), mineralogia (frações areia, silte e argila). Os solos foram classificados segundo o Sistema Brasileiro de Classificação de Solos (SiBCS, 2006) e apresentada uma proposta de classificação considerando as peculiaridades do solos da região. Os solos têm baixo grau de desenvolvimento pedogenético, com minerais da fração argila de alta atividade, além da presença de minerais primários, como feldspatos e plagioclásios, nas frações areia e silte. Os solos foram classificados segundo o SiBCS atual como Argissolo Vermelho Álitico plíntico (P1), Argissolo Acinzentado Distrófico plíntico (P2) e Cambissolo Háplico Ta Eutrófico típico (P3).

The soils from the State of Acre (Brazil) are mostly formed under parent material with influence of Andean orogeny, showing high Ca2+, Mg2+and Al3+ contents concomitantly associated with different combinations of CEC, V and m values. This study aimed to characterize and classify soils of a topossequence under sedimentary material from Solimões Formation, in the county of Feijó, State of Acre, Brazil. Trenches were opened in three points on a topossequence: shoulder (P1), backslope (P2) and footslope (P3). The soils were analyzed by morphology, particle size (sand, silt and clay), exchangeable cations (Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+ and Al3+), potential acidity (H+Al), P assimilable, pH (water and KCl), specific surface, sulfuric attack (Fe, Al, Ti and Si oxides), and mineralogy (sand, silt and clay). The soils were classified according to the Brazilian System of Soil Classification (SiBCS, 2006) and a classification considering the peculiarities of the soils was proposed. The soils have a low degree of pedogenetic development, with minerals of high activity in the clay fraction, and the presence of primary minerals such as feldspar and plagioclase in the sand and silt fractions. The soils were classified according to the current SiBCS as Argissolo Vermelho Álitico plíntico (P1), Argissolo Acinzentado Distrófico plíntico (P2) e Cambissolo Háplico Ta Eutrófico típico (P3).

O aporte de matéria orgânica ao solo via leguminosas em sistemas de aleias pode ser uma alternativa para o uso sustentável do trópico úmido. O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar o aporte de matéria orgânica facilmente oxidável proveniente da combinação de resíduos de diferentes leguminosas utilizadas em sistemas de condução de culturas em aleias sob Argissolo Vermelho-Amarelo. Foram avaliadas duas espécies de leguminosas de alta qualidade de resíduos - leucena (Leucaena leucocephala) e guandu (Cajanus cajan), e duas espécies de baixa qualidade de resíduos - sombreiro (Clitoria fairchildiana) e acácia (Acacia mangium), combinadas entre si, nos seguintes tratamentos: sombreiro + guandu; leucena + guandu; acácia + guandu; sombreiro + leucena; leucena + acácia e testemunha sem leguminosa. As amostras de solo foram coletadas nas profundidades de 0-5 e 5-10 cm, nas entrelinhas. Foi quantificado e fracionado o C orgânico total (COT), estratificado em quatro frações (F1, F2, F3 e F4) com graus decrescentes de oxidação. As áreas com sombreiro/leucena, acácia/leucena e acácia/guandu apresentaram os maiores teores de COT (0-5 cm), e a área testemunha, os menores (5-10 cm). A maior proporção do COT estava nas frações F1+F2; a área testemunha teve os menores teores de C nessas frações. O tratamento acácia/guandu apresentou maiores teores de C na fração F1 nas duas profundidades. O tratamento leucena/guandu apresentou as maiores proporções do COT nas frações F3 + F4. Os resultados indicam que, no cultivo em sistema de aleias, a combinação de leguminosas de alta e baixa qualidade de resíduos (acácia/guandu) favorece o aumento de matéria orgânica facilmente decomponível, enquanto o uso de leguminosas de alta qualidade de resíduos favorece maiores proporções de C somente nas frações mais resistentes (F3 + F4).

The input of organic matter to the soil by legumes in alley cropping systems may be an alternative for a sustainable soil use in the humid tropics. The objective of this study was to compare the input of oxidizable organic matter in a combination of residues from different legumes in alley cropping systems on an Ultisol. Two legume species were evaluated: leucena (Leucaena leucocephala) and pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan), which have high-quality residues, and Philippine pigeonwings (Clitoria fairchildiana) and acacia (Acacia mangium), with low-quality residues. The residues were combined in the following treatments: Philippine pigeonwings + pigeon pea; leucena + pigeon pea; acacia + pigeon pea; Philippine pigeonwings + leucena; leucena + acacia; an area without legumes was used as control. Soil samples were taken from the layers 0-5 and 5-10 cm in the crop inter-row. Total organic carbon (TOC) was quantified and divided into four fractions (F1, F2, F3 and F4) with decreasing oxidation degrees. In the areas with Philippine pigeonwings/leucena, acacia/leucena and acacia/pigeon pea the TOC content was higher at the depth of 0-5 cm. In the area without legumes the TOC content was the lowest at the depth of 5-10 cm. The highest TOC proportion was observed in the F1+F2 fractions, and the carbon contents for these fractions were lower in the area without legumes. In the acacia/pigeon pea treatment the C content was higher in the F1 fraction at both depths, while the TOC proportions were greater in the treatment leucaena/pigeon pea in the fractions F3 + F4. The results indicate that the combination of high and low quality residues (acacia/pigeon pea) favors the increase of easily decomposable organic matter, while the use of high-quality residues resulted in higher carbon proportions in the more resistant fractions (F3 + F4).
