Abstract South American opossums (Didelphis spp.) are definitive hosts of Sarcocystis neurona, Sarcocystis speeri, Sarcocystis lindsayi and Sarcocystis falcatula. In Brazil, diverse studies have demonstrated a high frequency of Sarcocystis falcatula-like in sporocysts derived from opossums, and high genetic diversity has been observed in surface antigen-encoding genes (SAGs). In this study, genetic diversity of Sarcocystis spp. derived from Didelphis albiventris and Didelphis aurita from the cities of Campo Grande and São Paulo, was accessed by sequencing SAG2, SAG3, SAG4, the first internal transcribed spacer (ITS-1) and cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (cox1). Molecular identification was performed for 16 DNA samples obtained from sporocyst or culture-derived merozoites. The ITS-1, cox1, and SAG3 fragments were cloned, whereas SAG2 and SAG4 were sequenced directly from PCR products. Four alleles variants were found for SAG2, 13 for SAG3 and seven for SAG4, from which four, 13 and four, respectively, were novel. Twenty-seven allele variants were found for ITS-1, all phylogenetically related to S. falcatula-like previously described in Brazil. Sarcocystis sp. phylogenetically related to Sarcocystis rileyi was evidenced by cox1 in three opossums. Further studies are needed to clarify the role of Didelphis spp. as definitive hosts of Sarcocystis spp. other than that previous described.

Resumo Gambás sul-americanos (Didelphis spp.) são hospedeiros definitivos de Sarcocystis neurona, Sarcocystis speeri, Sarcocystis lindsayi e Sarcocystis falcatula. No Brasil, diversos estudos têm demonstrado alta frequência de Sarcocystis falcatula-like em esporocistos derivados de gambás, com grande diversidade nos genes que codificam antígenos de superfície (SAGs). Neste estudo, a diversidade genética de Sarcocystis spp., oriundos de Didelphis albiventris e Didelphis aurita, dos municípios de Campo Grande e São Paulo, foi acessada por meio do sequenciamento de SAG2, SAG3 e SAG4, da primeira região espaçadora interna transcrita (ITS-1) e citocromo c oxidase subunidade I (cox1). Identificação molecular foi realizada em 16 amostras de DNA, obtidas de esporocistos ou merozoítos derivados de cultivo. Os fragmentos de ITS-1, cox1 e SAG3 foram clonados, enquanto SAG2 e SAG4 foram sequenciados diretamente dos produtos de PCR. Quatro alelos foram observados em SAG2, 13 em SAG3 e sete em SAG4, sendo novos quatro, 13 e quatro, respectivamente. Em ITS-1, 27 alelos foram observados, todos filogeneticamente relacionados à S. falcatula-like, previamente detectados no Brasil. Sarcocystis sp. filogeneticamente relacionado à Sarcocystis rileyi foi evidenciado por cox1 em três gambás. Mais estudos são necessários para entender o papel de Didelphis spp. como hospedeiro definitivo de Sarcocystis spp. diferentes daqueles previamente descritos.

BACKGROUND There is interest in lingering non-specific symptoms after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, referred to as Long coronavirus disease 2019 (Long COVID-19). It remains unknown whether the risk of Long COVID-19 is associated with pre-existing comorbidities or initial COVID-19 severity, including infections due to new Omicron lineages which predominated in 2023. OBJECTIVES The aim of this case report was to characterize the clinical features of acute XBB.1.5 infection followed by Long COVID-19. METHODS We followed a 73-year old female resident of Rio de Janeiro with laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 during acute infection and subsequent months. The SARS-CoV-2 lineage was determined by genome sequencing. FINDINGS The participant denied comorbidities and had completed a two-dose vaccination schedule followed by two booster doses eight months prior to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Primary infection by viral lineage XBB.1.5. was clinically mild, but the participant subsequently reported persistent fatigue. MAIN CONCLUSIONS This case demonstrates that Long COVID-19 may develop even after mild disease due to SARS-CoV-2 in fully vaccinated and boosted individuals without comorbidities. Continued monitoring of new SARS-CoV-2 lineages and associated clinical outcomes is warranted. Measures to prevent infection should continue to be implemented including development of new vaccines and antivirals effective against novel variants.

Resumo Fundamento A COVID-19 adicionou um fardo enorme sobre os médicos ao redor do mundo, especialmente as mulheres médicas, que são afetadas pelo aumento da carga de trabalho e pela perda da qualidade de vida. Objetivo Avaliar os efeitos da pandemia de COVID-19 na qualidade de vida, burnout e espiritualidade de médicas brasileiras que atendem pacientes com COVID-19 direta ou indiretamente. Método Estudo prospectivo, observacional realizado de 28 de julho a 27 de setembro de 2020, no Brasil, com mulheres médicas de 47 especialidades, a mais frequente sendo a cardiologia (22,8%), sem restrição de idade. Elas responderam voluntariamente um questionário online com questões sobre características demográficas e socioeconômicas, qualidade de vida (WHOQOL-brief) e espiritualidade (WHOQOL-SRPB) e enunciados do Oldenburg Burnout Inventory. A análise estatística utilizou o software R, regressão beta, árvores de classificação e matriz de correlação policórica, com nível de significância de 5%. Resultados Das 769 respondentes, 61,6% relataram sinais de burnout. Cerca de 64% relataram perda salarial de até 50% durante a pandemia. Algumas relataram falta de energia para as tarefas diárias, sentimentos negativos frequentes, insatisfação com a capacidade para o trabalho, e que cuidar de outras pessoas não agregava sentido às suas vidas. Os sentimentos negativos correlacionaram-se negativamente com a satisfação com a vida sexual, a satisfação com as relações pessoais e a energia para as tarefas diárias. A incapacidade de permanecer otimista em tempos de incerteza correlacionou-se positivamente com a sensação de insegurança no dia a dia e com o não reconhecimento de que cuidar de outras pessoas trouxesse sentido à vida. Conclusão O presente estudo mostrou uma alta frequência de burnout entre as médicas brasileiras que responderam ao questionário durante a pandemia de COVID-19. Apesar disso, apresentavam uma qualidade de vida relativamente boa e acreditavam que a espiritualidade trazia-lhes conforto e segurança nos momentos difíceis.

Abstract Background COVID-19 has placed a tremendous burden on physicians worldwide, especially women physicians, affected by increased workload and loss of quality of life. Objective To assess the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the quality of life, burnout and spirituality of Brazilian women physicians directly or indirectly providing care to COVID-19 patients. Methods Prospective, observational study performed from July 28 to September 27, 2020, in Brazil, with women physicians from 47 specialities, the most frequent being cardiology (22.8%), with no age restriction. They voluntarily answered an online survey with questions on demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, quality of life (WHOQOL-brief), spirituality (WHOQOL-SRPB), and statements from the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory. Statistical analysis used the R software, beta regression, classification trees, and polychoric correlation matrix, with a 5% of significance level. Results Of the 769 respondents, 61.6% reported signs of burnout. About 64% reported wage loss of up to 50% during the pandemic. Some reported lack of energy for daily tasks, frequent negative feelings, dissatisfaction with capability for work, and caring for others not adding meaning to their lives. Negative feelings correlated negatively with satisfaction with sexual life and personal relations, and energy for daily tasks. The inability to remain optimistic in times of uncertainty correlated positively with feeling unsafe daily and not acknowledging that caring for others brings meaning to life. Conclusion This study showed a high frequency of burnout among Brazilian women physicians who answered the survey during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, they presented with a relatively good quality of life and believed that spirituality comforted and reassured them in hard times.

Abstract Background Cardiotoxicity is the main complication related to cancer therapy. Studies indicate that global longitudinal strain is an early detector of subclinical dysfunction of the left ventricle, preceding the decline in ejection fraction (EF). However, the reproducibility of such methodology has not been tested outside specialized centers. Objectives To assess the frequency of subclinical cardiotoxicity and to compare global longitudinal strain and EF measurements during the clinical course of patients undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. Methods This was an observational prospective study of 78 adult women who underwent serial echocardiograms (baseline and 1, 3, and 6 months after the beginning of chemotherapy), to evaluate biplane and 3D EF and global longitudinal strain. Cardiotoxicity and subclinical dysfunction were defined according to American Society of Echocardiography/European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging criteria. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results The mean age of the patients was 50.1 ± 11.48 years. The frequency of subclinical cardiotoxicity (defined by global longitudinal strain) was 14.9% after 30 days of chemotherapy, 16.7% after 3 months, and 19.7% after 6 months, compared to 4.5%, 3%, and 6.6%, respectively, when clinical cardiotoxicity was determined according to EF. The group that developed subclinical cardiotoxicity by 30 days (group A) had a higher frequency of clinical cardiotoxicity at 3 months (p=0.028) and a lower mean biplane EF after 30 days (p= 0.036) than the group that showed no evidence of subclinical cardiotoxicity (group B). Conclusion Subclinical cardiotoxicity was frequent and began early, being associated with a drop in EF during the clinical course.

Resumo Este estudo transversal investigou a prevalência e os fatores associados ao diagnóstico de câncer de mama em estágio avançado entre 18.890 mulheres assistidas em hospital especializado da capital do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, entre os anos 1999 e 2016. Utilizou-se regressão de Poisson com variância robusta para estimar razões de prevalência e respectivos intervalos de 95% de confiança. Apresentaram maiores prevalências de diagnóstico nessa condição mulheres com idade entre 20-39 e 40-49 anos, de raça/cor da pele preta e parda, que viviam sem companheiro(a), procedentes de outros municípios do estado do Rio de Janeiro, que tiveram o Sistema Único de Saúde como origem do encaminhamento e que foram diagnosticadas nos sexênios 1999-2004 e 2005-2010. Em contrapartida, mulheres com idade entre 60-69 e 70-99 anos, que cursaram algum nível de escolaridade, com histórico familiar de câncer e que chegaram ao hospital com diagnóstico e sem tratamento apresentaram menores prevalências de diagnóstico em estágio avançado. Esses resultados podem ser considerados no planejamento de ações de prevenção secundária, a fim de antecipar o diagnóstico de câncer de mama dos grupos mais vulneráveis e assim colaborar para a redução da prevalência do diagnóstico em estágio avançado.

Abstract This cross-sectional study investigated the prevalence and factors associated with advanced stage breast cancer diagnosis among 18,890 women assisted in a specialized hospital in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 1999 to 2016. We used Poisson regression with robust variance to estimate prevalence ratios and respective 95% confidence intervals. The highest prevalence of diagnosis in this condition was in women aged 20-39 and 40-49 years, black and brown, living without a partner, from other cities of the state of Rio de Janeiro, who were referred by the Unified Health System and diagnosed in the 1999-2004 and 2005-2010 six-year periods. On the other hand, women aged 60-69 and 70-99 years, with some schooling level, with a family history of cancer and who arrived at the hospital with diagnosis and without treatment had lower prevalence of advanced stage breast cancer diagnosis. These results can be considered when planning secondary prevention actions to anticipate and, thus, collaborate to reduce the prevalence the breast cancer diagnosis in the most vulnerable groups.

RESUMO O estudo analisou a produção científica sobre natação em língua portuguesa por meio da bibliometria. A busca ocorreu nas bases Scientific Electronic Library Online, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde e Scopus, desde seu início até setembro de 2022. Duzentos e trinta e dois artigos completos foram incluídos. A produção aumentou consideravelmente nas duas últimas décadas, sendo predominantemente concentrada nas regiões Sudeste e Sul, em periódicos A2 a B2 do Qualis-CAPES 2013-2016. Biomecânica e fisiologia foram as áreas mais estudadas. A maior parte dos estudos é de natureza quantitativa, observacional e transversal, direcionados à população adolescente e atleta. A quantidade e variedade de estudos demonstra o interesse da comunidade científica em investigar aspectos relacionados à natação.

ABSTRACT This study analyzed the scientific production on swimming in Portuguese through bibliometrics. Scientific Electronic Library Online, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde and Scopus databases were searched from their inception until September 2022. Two hundred and thirty-two studies were included. Scientific production increased considerably in the last two decades, being mainly concentrated in the Southeast and South regions, in journals classified as A2 to B2 in the Qualis-CAPES 2013-2016. Biomechanics and physiology were the most studied areas. Most studies are of a quantitative, observational, and cross-sectional nature, and included adolescent and athlete populations. The quantity and variety of studies demonstrates the interest in investigating aspects related to swimming.

RESUMEN El estudio analizó la producción científica sobre natación en portugués a través de la bibliometría. La búsqueda se realizó en las bases Scientific Electronic Library Online, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde y Scopus, desde su inicio hasta septiembre de 2022. Se incluyeron 232 artículos completos. La producción aumentó considerablemente en las últimas dos décadas y predomino en las regiones Sudeste y Sur, en las revistas A2 a B2 de Qualis-CAPES 2013-2016. Biomecánica y fisiología fueron las áreas más estudiadas. La mayoría de los estudios son cuantitativos, observacionales y transversales, dirigidos a la población adolescente y deportista. La cantidad y variedad de estudios demuestra el interés de la comunidad científica por investigar aspectos relacionados con la natación.

RESUMO Objetivo Avaliar os fatores de risco para doença pulmonar intersticial (DPI) em pacientes com artrite reumatoide (AR), bem como a associação com uso de metotrexate e com a atividade da doença articular. Métodos Estudo retrospectivo, transversal, realizado entre março e dezembro de 2019 em um centro de saúde terciário, no seguimento de pacientes com AR submetidos a provas de função pulmonar (PFP) e tomografia computadorizada de tórax. Avaliamos as características tomográficas, como a presença de DPI e sua extensão, bem como a atividade da doença articular. Medidas funcionais, como capacidade vital forçada (CVF) e a medida de difusão de monóxido de carbono (DCO) também foram avaliadas. Em seguida, aplicou-se uma análise de regressão logística multivariada para identificar os fatores de risco associados à DPI. Resultados Foram avaliados 1.233 pacientes, dos quais 134 foram elegíveis para este estudo. A maioria era do sexo feminino (89,6%), com idade média de 61 anos e fator reumatoide positivo (86,2%). A DPI associada à AR (DPI-AR) foi detectada em 49 pacientes (36,6%). Encontramos associação de DPI-AR com idade ≥ 62 anos, sexo masculino, história de tabagismo,crepitações finas na ausculta pulmonar e diminuição da DCO. Idade ≥ 62 anos e atividade articular moderada ou alta da AR foram fatores independentes associados à DPI-AR, com odds ratio de 4,36 e 3,03, respectivamente. O uso de metotrexato não foi associado à maior prevalência de DPI. Conclusão A idade e a atividade da doença da AR são importantes fatores de risco associados à DPI-AR. O metotrexato não foi associado ao desenvolvimento de DPI-AR no presente estudo.

ABSTRACT Objective To assess the risk factors for interstitial lung disease (ILD) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and to evaluate the association of ILD with the use of methotrexate as well as with joint disease activity. Methods A retrospective, cross-sectional study conducted between March and December 2019 at a tertiary healthcare center, in a follow-up of RA patients who had undergone pulmonary function tests (PFT) and chest computed tomography. We evaluated the tomographic characteristics, such as the presence of ILD and its extension, as well as joint disease activity. Functional measurements, such as forced vital capacity (FVC) and diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO), were also assessed. After this, a multivariate logistic regression analysis was applied in order to identify risk factors associated with ILD. Results We evaluated 1.233 patients, of which 134 were eligible for this study. The majority were female (89.6%), with a mean age of 61 years old and with a positive rheumatoid factor (86.2%). RA-associated ILD (RA-ILD) was detected in 49 patients (36.6%). We found an association of RA-ILD with age ≥= 62 year, male sex, smoking history and fine crackles in lung auscultation and a decreased DLCO. The indicators of being aged ≥ 62 years old and having moderate or high RA disease activity were both independent factors associated with RA-ILD, with an odds ratio of 4.36 and 3.03, respectively. The use of methotrexate was not associated with a higher prevalence of ILD. Conclusion Age and RA disease activity are important risk factors associated with RA-ILD. Methotrexate was not associated with the development of RA-ILD in the present study.

Abstract This study reports the clinical case of a 42-year-old patient with ulcerated lesions who was followed up by general practitioners with the diagnosis of recurrent cellulitis. However, when referred to the Dermatology division a diagnosis of Behçet's syndrome was established based on clinical criteria. Although there are defined clinical criteria for this syndrome, sometimes its diagnosis can be challenging, due to lack of knowledge of the disease and extremely heterogeneous clinical phenotype. The authors highlight the potential difficulties in establishing the diagnosis considering the multiple clinical findings during the investigation process, contributing to the risk of increased morbidity and mortality.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Childhood and adolescent obesity is a worldwide public health concern. The New Moves program aims to change eating behavior (EB) and physical activity (PA). OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention and predictors of better outcomes relating to EB and PA levels. DESIGN AND SETTING: Secondary data from a cluster randomized controlled trial in 10 public schools in São Paulo, Brazil. METHODS: 270 female adolescents, aged 12 to 14 years, were analyzed. Participation levels were categorized as presence in 1 to 9 sessions or 10 to 17 sessions, or control. Effectiveness was evaluated through improvement in disordered EB (DEB) and EB. Predictors of better outcomes relating to PA levels were evaluated through clustering of individual characteristics that affected changes in PA scores. RESULTS: Participation level was not significantly associated with changes in DEB or EB. Girls with higher body mass index percentile (BMI-P) percentile tended to have increases in sedentary lifestyles through the program. Girls with less body image dissatisfaction presented higher increases in daily PA. Girls with higher BMI-P percentile and higher self-esteem showed reductions in sedentary lifestyles. The program seemed to have more effect on daily PA among older girls than among younger girls. CONCLUSIONS: This program could be used as a structured action plan in schools, with the aims of improving eating behaviors and physical activity, in addition to promoting self-acceptance. The results indicate the importance of evaluating determinants of adherence, as these metrics might influence the effectiveness and future design of lifestyle programs.

RESUMO Objetivo Descrever o processo de tradução e adaptação transcultural, para a língua portuguesa, da escala National Emergency Department Overcrowding Score (NEDOCS) para uso no Brasil. Método Estudo metodológico de tradução e adaptação transcultural para a língua portuguesa do Brasil, fundamentado nas recomendações do Guidelines for the Process of Cross-Cultural Adaptation of Self-Report Measures, compreendendo as etapas de tradução inicial; síntese das traduções; retrotradução; comitê de especialistas; pré-teste e submissão da escala ao autor. Resultados A escala adaptada para o português apresentou equivalência semântica, idiomática, experimental e conceitual com o original; o valor total do Alpha de Cronbach foi de -0,401, devido a não intercorrelação positiva entre os itens da escala. Conclusões A escala NEDOCS demonstrou ser um instrumento confiável, para ser utilizada no monitoramento em tempo real da lotação dos serviços de emergência, contribuindo nos processos gerenciais e assistenciais e fornece indicadores em saúde.

ABSTRACT Objective To describe the process of translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the National Emergency Department Overcrowding Score (NEDOCS) into the Portuguese language for use in Brazil. Method Methodological study of translation and cross-cultural adaptation into the Portuguese language of Brazil, founded in the recommendations of the Guidelines for the Process of Cross-Cultural Adaptation of Self-Report Measures, that comprise the stages of initial translation; synthesis of the translations; back-translation; committee of experts; pretesting and introduction of the scale to the author. Results The Portuguese-adapted scale presented semantic, idiomatic, experimental and conceptual equivalence with the original one; the total value of the Cronbach`s Alpha was -0,401 due to the non-positive intercorrelation among the scale items. Conclusions The NEDOCS scale has proved to be a reliable instrument to be utilized in the real-time monitoring of the assignment of emergency services. Thus, it contributes to the managerial and assistance processes besides providing health indicators.

RESUMEN Objetivo Describir el proceso de traducción y adaptación transcultural, para la lengua portuguesa, de la escala National Emergency Department Overcrowding Score (NEDOCS) para el uso en Brasil. Método Estudio metodológico de traducción y adaptación transcultural al portugués de Brasil, basado en las recomendaciones del Guidelines for the Process of Cross-Cultural Adaptation of Self-Report Measures, que incluye las etapas de traducción inicial; síntesis de las traducciones; traducción de respaldo; comité de expertos; prueba previa y presentación de la escala al autor. Resultados La escala adaptada al portugués presentó equivalencia semántica, idiomática, experimental y conceptual con respecto al original; el valor total del Alpha de Cronbach fue de -0,401 debido a que no hubo intercorrelación positiva entre los elementos de la escala. Conclusiones La escala NEDOCS ha demostrado ser un instrumento confiable útil para el monitoreo en tiempo real de la asignación de los servicios de urgencia, y, por lo tanto, contribuye en los procesos gerenciales y asistenciales, además de proporcionar indicadores de salud.

Abstract BINGO (BAO from Integrated Neutral Gas Observations) is a unique radio telescope designed to map the intensity of neutral hydrogen distribution at cosmological distances, making the first detection of Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) in the frequency band 980 MHz - 1260 MHz, corresponding to a redshift range 0.127 < z < 0.449. BAO is one of the most powerful probes of cosmological parameters and BINGO was designed to detect the BAO signal to a level that makes it possible to put new constraints on the equation of state of dark energy. The telescope will be built in Paraíba, Brazil and consists of two \thicksim 40m mirrors, a feedhorn array of 50 horns, and no moving parts, working as a drift-scan instrument. It will cover a 15 ^{\circ} ∘ declination strip centered at \sim \delta ∼ δ =-15 ^{\circ} ∘, mapping \sim ∼ 5400 square degrees in the sky. The BINGO consortium is led by University of São Paulo with co-leadership at National Institute for Space Research and Campina Grande Federal University (Brazil). Telescope subsystems have already been fabricated and tested, and the dish and structure fabrication are expected to start in late 2020, as well as the road and terrain preparation.

RESUMO: Este estudo avaliou a morfologia microscópica de parasitos protozoários e metazoários, bem como lesões associadas ao parasitismo em cinco tatus de vida livre no Brasil. Três tatus tinham cistos de Sarcocystis sp. Intra-sarcolemal em músculos esqueléticos sem alterações microscópicas. Um Dasypus novemcinctus estava parasitado com um nematodo morfologicamente compatível com oxiurideo no intestino delgado. Um Dasypus sp. apresentou enterite neutrofílica associada com estágios larvais de Strongyloides sp. e um D. novemcinctus apresentou múltiplos ovos embrionados livres no lúmen do intestino delgado, associado a enterite neutrofílica discreta. Estes achados representam uma contribuição para a expansão do conhecimento sobre doenças parasitárias de tatus.

ABSTRACT: This study assessed microscopic morphology of protozoan and metazoan parasites, as well as parasite-associated histopathologic changes in five Brazilian free-ranging armadillos. Three armadillos had intra sarcolemmal cysts of Sarcocystis sp. in skeletal muscles without microscopic changes. One Dasypus novemcinctus was found parasitized with a nematode morphologically compatible with an oxyurid in the small intestine. One Dasypus sp. had neutrophilic enteritis associated with adult and larval stages of Strongyloides sp. and one D. novemcinctus had multiple embryonated eggs free in the lumen of the small intestine with mild neutrophilic enteritis. These findings represent a contribution for expanding our knowledge on parasitic diseases of armadillos.

RESUMO. Testes de fluência verbal são procedimentos amplamente utilizados na avaliação neuropsicológica. A análise da performance de pessoas com afasia no teste de fluência verbal fonêmica (FVF), do ponto de vista quantitativo e qualitativo, pode contribuir para uma melhor compreensão das mudanças cognitivas que ocorrem nesse grupo de pacientes. Objetivo: Os objetivos deste estudo foram analisar as medidas de estratégias de agrupamento e de mudança de agrupamento na FVF de pessoas com afasia e investigar a correlação entre o uso dessas estratégias, o desempenho quantitativo no teste e o desempenho em funções executivas. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo transversal com 15 pessoas com afasia, destros, falantes nativos do português brasileiro, com idade entre 19 e 92 anos. Eles foram submetidos ao teste F-A-S e ao Teste do Relógio (TDR). Foram obtidas as seguintes medidas no F-A-S: escore total, número e tamanho médio de agrupamento e número de mudança de agrupamento. Para análise de correlação foi utilizado o teste de Spearman. Resultados: Foi verificada correlação positiva entre todos os escores do teste F-A-S, variando entre p=0,61 (p<0,001) e p=0,91 (p<0,001). Não foram encontradas correlações entre tais medidas e o escore no TDR (p≤0,31; p≥0,260). Conclusões: A análise quantitativa e qualitativa do F-A-S de pessoas com afasia, mesmo com diferentes manifestações linguísticas, mostrou que elas apresentam escores inferiores e o número total de palavras e o número de mudanças de agrupamento possuem forte correlação. Não foi observada correlação entre funções executivas, avaliada pelo TDR, e o desempenho na medida de mudança de agrupamento.

ABSTRACT. Verbal fluency tests are widely used in neuropsychological assessment. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of the performance of aphasic individuals on the phonemic verbal fluency (PVF) test can contribute to a better understanding of cognitive changes in this group of patients. Objective: This study aimed to analyze clustering and switching measures of PVF in people with aphasia and investigate the relationship between the use of these strategies, the quantitative performance on the test, and the performance on executive functions. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of 15 people with aphasia, right-handed, native speakers of Brazilian Portuguese, aged 19 to 92 years. They were submitted to the F-A-S test and the Clock Drawing Test (CDT). The following measures were obtained in the F-A-S test: total score, number of clusters, mean cluster size, and number of switches. Spearman's test was used to analyze correlation. Results: We found a positive correlation among all F-A-S test scores, ranging from p=0.61 (p<0.001) to p=0.91 (p<0.001). No correlation was identified between these measures and CDT performance (p≤0.31; p≥0.260). Conclusions: The quantitative and qualitative analysis of F-A-S in people with aphasia, even those with different linguistic manifestations, showed that these individuals presented lower scores and that the number of total words and the number of switches were strongly correlated. We found no correlation between executive function, assessed by the CDT, and switching performance on the F-A-S test.

RESUMO. A síndrome do sotaque estrangeiro (SSE) é um distúrbio extremamente raro, com 112 casos descritos até 2019. Foram comparados dois casos de SSE em falantes nativos do português brasileiro em sua forma clássica e em sua variante psiquiátrica. Os seguintes casos foram analisados: (1) homem de 69 anos, destro, com história prévia de acidente vascular cerebral, e (2) mulher de 43 anos, destra, com diagnóstico de esquizofrenia. Eles foram avaliados quanto à linguagem e à fala, incluindo a inteligibilidade. Ambos apresentaram alterações de fala, como um sotaque novo adquirido, sem exposição prévia à língua estrangeira. Entretanto, o início do distúrbio foi súbito no caso 1 e insidioso e com eventos transitórios no caso 2, com escores de inteligibilidade da fala de 95,5 e 55,3%, respectivamente. Além do comprometimento neurológico, a apresentação clínica da variante psiquiátrica foi mais grave e diferiu dos casos de SSE, cuja inteligibilidade da fala é preservada.

ABSTRACT. Foreign accent syndrome (FAS) is an extremely rare disorder, with 112 cases described until 2019. We compare two cases of the foreign accent syndrome in native speakers of Brazilian Portuguese in its classic form (FAS) and psychiatric variant (FALS). Two cases were analyzed: (1) a right-handed, 69-year-old man, with a prior history of stroke, and (2) a right-handed, 43-year-old woman, diagnosed with schizophrenia. They were evaluate for language and speech, including the speech intelligibility. Both patients had speech impairments complaints, similar to a new accent, without previous exposure to a foreign language. However, the onset of the speech disorder was sudden in case 1 and insidious and with transient events in case 2, with speech intelligibility scores of 95.5 and 55.3% respectively. Besides neurologic impairment, the clinical presentation of FALS was extremely severe and differed to that expected in FAS cases, in which speech intelligibility is preserved.
