Abstract This study aims to estimate the profitability and to evaluate the economic risks of REDD + projects in the Brazilian Amazon. The data were obtained through interviews and questionnaires to the proponents of the private REDD + projects of Amazonia. The economic risk was calculated using sensitivity analysis of the key project variables and the probability of project profitability through the Monte Carlo Simulation Method. The results indicate that the variable cost was responsible for 80% of the total costs. Fixed costs accounted for 20% of total costs. The result of the cash flow risk analysis concluded that REDD + projects in the Brazilian Amazon are viable, Internal Rate of Return of 11.49% a.a. was greater than the 10% a.a. Minimum Attractiveness Rate. The point at which the project computes a positive NPV is the price of BRL 18.6. Projects that sold VCUs at a price lower than BRL 18.6 may be financially unfeasible. The Monte Carlo simulation showed that the probability of obtaining a TIR of 10% a.a. or more is 51.53% a.a. It is concluded that REDD + projects in the Amazon have a positive return probability approaching 50%, but this return is not as attractive.

Resumen Este estudio tuvo como objetivo estimar la viabilidad y evaluar los riesgos económicos de los proyectos de Reducción de Emisiones por Deforestación y Degradación forestal - REDD+ en la Amazonia brasileña. Los datos fueron obtenidos a través de entrevistas y cuestionarios a los proponentes de proyectos privados de REDD+ en la Amazonia. El riesgo económico se calculó de acuerdo con un análisis de sensibilidad de las variables clave de los proyectos y la probabilidad de viabilidad de proyectos mediante el método de Simulación Monte Carlo. Los resultados obtenidos indican que los costes variables corresponden a 80%, mientras que los fijos representaron 20% de los costos totales. Los resultados del análisis de riesgos sujetos a flujo de caja indican que los proyectos REDD+ en la Amazonia brasileña son viables, con Tasa Interna de Retorno (TIR) de 11,49% por año, superior a la Tasa Mínima de Atractividad real de 10% por año utilizada. El punto en el que el proyecto mostró un Valor Actual Neto (VAN) positivo es el precio de BRL 18,6; donde proyectos que vendan Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) a un precio inferior a BRL 18,6 podrán presentar inviabilidad financiera. La simulación de Monte Carlo mostró que la probabilidad de obtener una TIR de 10% o más por año es 51,53%. Se concluye que los proyectos de REDD+ en la Amazonia tienen una probabilidad de retorno positivo próximo a 50%, pero esos retornos no llegan a ser tan atractivos en relación con el alto riesgo.

RESUMO Esse artigo teve por objetivo analisar o desempenho das exportações do Brasil e da Argentina no mercado internacional de mate. O método de análise utilizado refere-se ao Índice de Vantagem Comparativa Revelada (IVCR) do mate brasileiro e argentino, durante o período de 1997 a 2011. Inicialmente, foi verificada a existência de quebras estruturais das séries temporais e depois, foram averiguados a taxa de crescimento de mercado e o Índice de Vantagem Comparativa Revelada Simétrica (IVCRS) que foram utilizados para identificar a posição do mate de cada país na matriz de competitividade. Os resultados obtidos no período integral mostraram que tanto o mate brasileiro quanto o argentino apresentaram produtos que possuem vantagem comparativa (+) dentro de mercados com demanda crescente (+).

ABSTRACT This article aims to analyze the performance of exports from Brazil and Argentina in the international mate market. The analysis method used refers to the Revealed Comparative Advantage Index (IVCR) of the Brazilian and Argentine mate, during the period from 1997-2011. At the beginning, it was verified the existence of structural breaks of the time series, then, were investigated the rate of market growth and the Symmetric Revealed Comparative Advantage Index (IVCRS) that were used to identify the mate position of each country in the competitiveness matrix. The results obtained in the whole period showed that both the Brazilian and Argentine mate presented products that have comparative advantage (+) in markets with increasing demand (+).

ABSTRACT This study aims to show the organizational capacity and structure of the forest management system of the State of Amapá, Brazil. The research was based on the principles applied in Public Administration functions. We found that forest management in Amapá is performed by four State agencies consisting of two management systems that act on the production side, with one being in direct administration as the formulator of forestry policy, and one being an autonomous agency linked to the previous one as executor of forestry policy, and the other two systems being more directly linked to protection, with one being a formulator of environmental policy and the other its executor. There was a statistically significant correlation between the perceptions of public officers and the users of institutions regarding the organizational system. Some conflicts were observed between the four institutions in terms of forest administration responsibilities. We concluded that the maintenance of the existing forest coverage is not directly due to institutional capacities.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar os indicadores de competitividade no comércio exterior do produto mel natural, entre 2000 e 2011. Em 2000, o Brasil iniciou a inserção desse produto no mercado internacional, ganhando rápida projeção como país exportador. No entanto, ainda ocupa posição intermediária entre os principais exportadores mundiais. O problema analisado neste estudo está relacionado com a competitividade desse produto, no mercado, a partir de indicadores econômicos. Os procedimentos metodológicos utilizados para verificar a competitividade foram o modelo constant market share e o índice de vantagem comparativa revelada (IVCR). Constatou-se que o quantum e o valor exportado apresentam tendência de crescimento e de flutuações no mercado internacional. No período estudado, a China e a Argentina destacavam-se como os principais exportadores mundiais de mel natural e o Brasil era o sétimo maior exportador. Conclui-se que o País apresenta competitividade no mercado externo de mel natural e padrões de eficiência e de utilização de recursos semelhantes aos vigentes no mundo, além de potencial para ampliar sua participação, com um produto competitivo e diferenciado.

ABSTRACT The objective of this paper is to analyze the indicators of competitiveness in foreign trade of natural honey product between the years 2000-2011. Brazil, from 2000, initiated the insertion of this product in the international market, gaining rapid recognition as the exporting country, however, still occupies an intermediate position between the world's major exporters. The problem to be studied is the competitiveness this product in the international market from economic indicators. The methodological procedures used to verify the competitiveness abroad are the Constant Market Share Model and Index of Revealed Comparative Advantage (IVCR). It was observed that the quantum and export value have a tendency of growth and fluctuations in the international market. The main exporters are China and Argentina, Brazil is the seventh exporter in the study period. We conclude that Brazil has competitiveness in foreign markets natural honey and standards of efficiency and use of resources similar to those prevailing in the world, and has the potential to increase its share, with a competitive and differentiated product.

RESUMO O objetivo deste artigo foi gerar informações econômicas sobre plantios de seringueira (Hevea spp.) inseridos no mercado de carbono no âmbito do mecanismo de desenvolvimento limpo (MDL) e implantados no estado do Acre. Para tal, considerando dados sobre os projetos locais de seringal de cultivo, foram quantificados o Valor Presente Líquido (VPL) e o Valor Esperado da Terra (VET), assim como a Taxa Interna de Retorno (TIR) desses plantios. Dos resultados gerados, concluiu-se que os reflorestamentos com seringueiras destinados ao sequestro de carbono no âmbito do MDL Florestal, apresentam potencial para serem viáveis, caso implantados no Acre e, assim, fortalecerem a economia de base florestal dessa região, desde que a sua renda não sofra uma queda de 20%, ou mais, em relação ao valor médio obtido neste estudo.

ABSTRACT The objective of this paper is to generate economic information on rubber tree (Hevea spp.) plantations included in the carbon market under the clean development mechanism (CDM), deployed in the state of Acre, Brazil. To this end, considering data from local heveiculture projects, Net Present Value (NPV), Land Expectation Value (LEV), and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) were quantified for theses reforestations. Based on the results obtained, we conclude that reforestation with rubber trees for carbon sequestration under Forestry CDM may be feasible in the state of Acre, thus strengthening the forest-based economy of the region, provided that the income generated from these plantations is not reduced by more than 20% compared with the average value obtained at the time of this study.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os impactos socioeconômicos das plantações florestais nas comunidades da província do Niassa, Moçambique. Foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com 423 chefes de famílias residentes no entorno das empresas florestais. Os dados foram obtidos mediante aplicação de questionários direcionados aos gestores das empresas florestais e membros do governo, e analisados com uso de estatística descritiva, tendo-se considerado o período anterior e posterior à instalação das empresas florestais. Os resultados evidenciaram melhorias de condições de vida das famílias, sobretudo aquelas que têm emprego nas empresas florestais. Porém, a presença das empresas florestais reduziu a dependência e a acessibilidade das famílias em relação aos recursos florestais devido ao aumento das distâncias das fontes de obtenção.

Abstract The aim of this research was to assess the socioeconomic impacts of forest plantations in the householders’ livelihood in the Niassa province communities, northern Mozambique. Were conducted semi-structured interviews with 423 households in communities around the forest companies, forest plantation managers and the govern local senior members of the govern. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, considering the period before and after implementation of forestry companies. The results showed improvements in the livelihood of the householders, especially those who are employed in forestry companies. The presence of forestry companies reduced dependence and accessibility of families in relation to forest resources due to increasing distances from the sources of production.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo descrever a dinâmica das exportações do mel natural brasileiro no período de 2000 a 2011. Para o desenvolvimento deste artigo foi realizado o levantamento bibliográfico sobre as exportações de mel natural utilizando fontes de consulta como: Sebrae, IBGE, sistema Aliceweb, dados do UNcomtrade. Também foi aplicada a metodologia Razão de concentração para definir o grau de concentração; para esse cálculo utilizou-se a participação dos quatro e oito maiores mercados internacionais brasileiros. Os resultados demonstraram que o Brasil saiu de um volume baixo de exportações para chegar no ano de 2011 ocupando o quinto lugar nas exportações mundiais, tendo como principais países de destino, nomeadamente, os Estados Unidos, Alemanha, Reino Unido, Canadá, Espanha e Bélgica. Estados Unidos e Alemanha participaram com mais de 80% do total exportado pelo país no período estudado, evidenciando uma alta concentração de mercado, comprovada pela metodologia aplicada.

This study aimed to describe the dynamics of the Brazilian exports of natural honey in the 2000-2011 period. To this end, a literature survey on exports of natural honey was carried out at the following reference data sources: SEBRAE, IBGE, Aliceweb, and UNcomtrade. The concentration ratio (CR) methodology was also applied to define the degree of concentration; this calculation was based on the participation of the four and the eight largest Brazilian export markets. The results showed that Brazil evolved from a low volume of exports in 2000 to the 5th place in world exports in 2011, exporting mainly to the United States, Germany, United Kingdom, Canada, Spain and Belgium. The United States and Germany participated with more than 80% of the total Brazilian exports of natural in the period studied, indicating a high market concentration proven by the methodology applied.

O segmento produtivo da madeira compensada passa por reestruturações mundiais. Este artigo buscou avaliar o desempenho produtivo de empresas paranaenses, bem como sugerir parâmetros de eficiência, os quais podem aumentar a competitividade das empresas. Aqui são avaliados indicadores de eficiência produtiva, obtidos através de amostragem direta em uma parcela significativa de empresas de compensado do Paraná, durante os meses de março a junho de 2002 (42% das empresas paranaenses) e de março a maio de 2007 (34% das empresas). Foi observado crescimento na eficiência produtiva de determinados tipos de empresas, principalmente nas empresas de compensados de Pinus. Esse crescimento está baseado no uso mais intensivo da capacidade nominal e não necessariamente na melhoria tecnológica. Outro tipo de empresa que obteve melhorias foi a de compensados para construção civil, impulsionado pelo crescimento desse setor. As demais empresas mantiveram suas produções constantes, mesmo com o crescimento geral da economia brasileira. Assim, através dessas informações é possível embasar e definir estratégias empresariais e setoriais.

Plywood mills have been changing their productive structure worldwide. These changes have also been taking place in Paraná's industries. The impacts are measure in this article by production efficiency indicators for two periods: March to July 2002 and March to May 2007. The analyses allowed the conclusions that: only plywood mills that produced plywood using pinewood for exportation are better adapted to globalization. The other plywood mills made products traded in the national market and did not increase their productions, improved or updated production systems. Production indicators can therefore be used to compare manufacturers or plan public or private actions.
