Resumen Objetivo. Comprender cómo se estructuran los modos de adaptación de los hombres adultos a la pandemia de COVID-19. Métodos. Estudio cualitativo que involucró 45 hombres adultos en Brasil en 2020. Los datos se recolectaron mediante la Encuesta Web y a continuación se sometieron al Análisis Temático Reflexivo e interpretados bajo el Modelo de Adaptación de Callista Roy. Resultados. La pandemia de COVID-19 movilizó en los hombres modos de adaptación que se configuran en: movilización de la dimensión fisiológico-física y reguladora: ajustes en el patrón del sueño, la alimentación y el mantenimiento de la actividad física; autoconcepto grupal de identidad: gestión de las emociones; función de rol: autoconocimiento y autocuidado; interdependencia: ajustes en la relación conyugal, vinculación familiar y paternidad, inversión en formación y estudios, y control del consumo excesivo de contenidos en el dispositivo móvil. Conclusión. La percepción de la propia vulnerabilidad favoreció el ingreso de los hombres a modos de adaptación en busca del equilibrio durante la pandemia, lo que los estimuló a transitar por prácticas de cuidarse a sí mismos y cuidar de los demás. Los marcadores de sufrimiento psicoemocional alertan sobre la adhesión a nuevos modos de atención capaces de promover transiciones saludables ante las disrupciones e incertidumbres generadas por la pandemia. Esta evidencia puede apoyar el establecimiento de metas para el cuidado de enfermería hacia los hombres.

Abstract Objective. This study aims to understand how adult men adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods. Qualitative study involving 45 adult men residing in Brazil in 2020. Data were obtained from a Web Survey and treated using Reflective Thematic Analysis and interpreted in the light of Callista Roy's Adaptation Model. Results. The COVID-19 pandemic mobilized in men the ways of adaptation that are configured in: mobilization of the physiological-physical and regulatory dimension: adjustments in the sleep pattern, dietary pattern, and maintenance of physical activity; group self-concept identity: managing emotions; role function: self-knowledge and self-care; interdependence: adjustments in the marital relationship, family ties and paternity, investment in training and studies and control of excessive consumption of content on cell phones. Conclusion. The perception of the own vulnerability favored the entry of men into ways of adaptation in search of balance during the pandemic, motivating them to move through practices of taking care of themselves and taking care of others. Markers of psycho-emotional distress alert to adherence to new modes of care capable of promoting healthy transitions in the face of disruptions and uncertainties generated by the pandemic. This evidence can support the establishment of goals for nursing care aimed at men.

Resumo Objetivo. Compreender como se estruturam os modos de adaptação de homens adultos à pandemia da COVID-19. Métodos. Estudo qualitativo que envolveu 45 homens adultos residentes no Brasil em 2020. Os dados foram obtidos de Web Survey e tratados mediante Análise Temática Reflexiva e interpretados à luz do Modelo de Adaptação de Callista Roy. Resultados. A pandemia da COVID-19 mobilizou nos homens os modos de adaptação que se configuram em: mobilização da dimensão fisiológico-física e regulatória: ajustes no padrão de sono, alimentar e manutenção da atividade física; identidade do autoconceito de grupo: gestão das emoções; função de papel: autoconhecimento e autocuidado; interdependência: ajustes no relacionamento conjugal, vinculação familiar e na paternidade, investimento na formação e estudos e controle do consumo excessivo de conteúdos no aparelho celular. Conclusão. A percepção da própria vulnerabilidade favoreceu a entrada dos homens em modos de adaptação em busca de equilíbrio durante a pandemia, motivando-os a transitar por práticas de cuidar de si e cuidar do outro. Marcadores de sofrimento psicoemocional alertam para adesão a novos modos de cuidado capazes de promover transições saudáveis diante das rupturas e incertezas geradas pela pandemia. Essas evidencias podem apoiar o estabelecimento de metas para o cuidado de Enfermagem dirigido aos homens.

ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the positioning of the distal tip of central venous catheters and the factors that contributed to inadequate positioning in patients admitted to intensive care. Methods This is a cross-sectional study, with a sample of 246 medical records of patients admitted to intensive care units. A catheter position analysis form was used as an instrument for data collection. Results It was seen that 86.2% of catheters used in intensive care were centrally inserted in the internal jugular veins, 74.4% were double-lumen catheter, and ultrasound was employed for puncture technique in 84.6% of cases. Of the distal ends of the catheters, 53.7% were at the cavoatrial junction (correct position). According to statistical tests, there was a positive correlation between the inadequate positioning of the distal extremity with the central insertion catheter (p=0.012). Patients with presumptive diagnosis associated with COVID-19 showed a positive correlation with inappropriate positioning of the catheter distal tip (p=0.017). Conclusion There are extrinsic factors related to improper positioning of the distal tip of catheters, such as the type of catheter used, the patients’ diagnosis and the puncture with insertion in the left jugular vein.

Abstract Sjogren’s Syndrome (SS) is an autoimmune disease characterized by lymphocytic infiltration of the exocrine glands and other organs, associated with sicca syndrome but also with systemic involvement with varying degrees of severity. Despite their importance, these systemic manifestations are not routinely evaluated and there is no homogenous approach to their diagnosis or evaluation. To close this gap, a panel of experts from the Brazilian Society of Rheumatology conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the identification of epidemiologic and clinical features of these manifestations and made recommendations based on the findings. Agreement between the experts was achieved using the Delphi method. The first part of this guideline summarizes the most important topics, and 11 recommendations are provided for the articular, pulmonary, and renal care of SS patients.

Abstract Sjogren's syndrome (SS) is an autoimmune disease characterized by lymphocytic infiltration of the exocrine glands and other organs, associated with sicca syndrome but also with systemic involvement with varying degrees of severity. Despite their importance, some systemic manifestations, mainly liver, gastrointestinal, and pancreatic are not routinely evaluated. To address these manifestations, the Sjögren's Syndrome Committee of the Brazilian Society of Rheumatology conducted a broad systematic review of the literature on studies investigating prevalence and diagnosis of these symptoms in Sjogren´s patients and made recommendations based on the findings. Agreement between the experts was achieved using the Delphi method. This is the second part of this guideline, providing 6 recommendations for liver, gastrointestinal, and pancreatic care of SS patients.

ABSTRACT Background: Seasonally Dry Tropical Forests (SDTF) are recognized by their great biological diversity, but little is known about their temporal patterns, which may be crucial in a changing world. Here we aimed to characterize the SDTF dynamic patterns in floristic and structural changes, and also to evaluate shifts in dynamic rates and structural attributes such as richness, number of trees and biomass. Our hypothesis is that SDTF tree communities have their dynamic characterized by temporal fluctuations related to an instability pattern, in according to the already found for others tropical forests. For this we used a data of 42 400 m² plots in three fragments in the Brazilian Arboreal Caatinga, measured in 2005, 2010 and 2015. We evaluated temporal changes in richness, species composition, trees density, biomass and rates of tree mortality and recruitment; and also rates of biomass gain and loss. Results: We found a pattern of floristic composition stability, but with changes in structure and dynamics. There was a tree density decrease driven by constant mortality and by recruitment decrease, and biomass increase due to decrease in biomass loss and to increase in biomass gain. The biomass increase was main related to a small set of dominant species that are the most representative in the community dynamics. Conclusion: SDTF dynamics are related to stability in species composition, but with structural changes towards higher biomass stocks. The results are main related to community dynamics and to SDTF attributes such as climatic seasonality that drives the local ecological processes.

Abstract Sjogren’s syndrome (SS) is an autoimmune disease characterized by lymphocytic infiltration of the exocrine glands and other organs. Women with SS often experience gynecological symptoms due to the disease and need extra care regarding their sexual activity, reproductive health and during pregnancy, conditions that are not properly conducted in the clinical practice. To cover this gap, a panel of experts from the Brazilian Society of Rheumatology conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the identification of symptoms, diagnosis, monitoring, prognosis, and treatment of these manifestations. A Focus Group meeting was held and included experts in the field and methodologists, based on a previously developed script, with themes related to the objective of the study. The most important topics were summarized and 11 recommendations were provided.

Resumo Toxoplasma gondii é um dos parasitas mais importantes mundialmente. Embora muitos estudos de soroprevalência tenham sido realizados em espécies domésticas e selvagens, dados sobre a incidência cumulativa e distribuição espacial de T. gondii em animais são extremamente escassos. No presente estudo, cães do município de Botucatu, estado de São Paulo, foram acompanhados por um ano, e suas amostras de sangue foram colhidas em três momentos: dias 1, 180 e 360. O soro foi submetido ao teste de imunofluorescência indireta (RIFI), para detectar anticorpos IgG para T. gondii. A idade e o sexo foram comparados com os resultados da RIFI por meio de testes estatísticos. Dos 350 cães soronegativos no dia, 1,53 se tornaram soropositivos nas amostragens subsequentes; portanto, a incidência cumulativa foi de 15,1% de cães expostos/ano. A idade e o sexo não tiveram associação com os resultados da sorologia. A análise espacial demonstrou que os cães soropositivos se distribuíram em todas as áreas compreendidas pelo estudo, com uma concentração significativa em uma região com condições sanitárias precárias e baixos níveis socioeconômicos. T. gondii é frequente e amplamente distribuído na área urbana de Botucatu, e regiões empobrecidas podem estar associadas a maiores níveis de contaminação ambiental por esse parasita.

Abstract Toxoplasma gondii is one of the most important protozoa parasites worldwide. Although many seroprevalence studies have been performed in domestic and wild species, data on the cumulative incidence and the spatial distribution of T. gondii in animals are extremely scarce. In the present study, dogs from Botucatu municipality, São Paulo state, were followed for one year and their blood samples were collected on three moments: days 1, 180, and 360. The sera were submitted to the immunofluorescence antibody test (IFAT) to detect IgG antibodies to T. gondii. Age and sex were compared with IFAT results through statistical tests. Spatial analysis was used to detect clusters of seropositive dogs. Among the 350 dogs that were seronegative on day 1, 53 became seropositive in subsequent samplings; thus, cumulative incidence was 15.1% exposed dogs/year. Age and sex were not associated with serological results. The spatial analysis revealed that seropositive dogs were distributed in all the studied areas, with a significant cluster in a zone with poor sanitary conditions and low socioeconomic status. T. gondii is frequent and widely distributed in the urban area of Botucatu, and impoverished areas are possibly associated with high levels of environmental contamination by this parasite.

Association between eating disorders, suicide and depressive symptoms in undergraduate students of health-related courses

RESUMO Objetivo: Identificar sintomas de transtornos alimentares e possíveis associações com o risco de suicídio e sintomas depressivos em universitários de cursos de saúde. Métodos: Neste estudo de corte transversal, foram avaliados 271 estudantes. Foram utilizados os instrumentos Teste de Atitudes Alimentares e Bulimic Investigatory Test of Edinburgh, para identificação de sintomas de transtornos alimentares. Para o rastreamento de sintomas depressivos, foi usado o questionário de autoavaliação da Escala de Hamilton − Depressão, e o Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview, para identificação do risco de suicídio. Todos os participantes responderam um questionário contendo informações sociodemográficas, para classificação econômica da amostra. Resultados: A frequência para sintomas de transtornos alimentares foi de 7,4% e de 29,1% para sintomas de bulimia nervosa. Cerca de 17,3% foram sintomáticos para depressão maior, e 13,6% tinham algum grau de risco de suicídio; destes, 7,4% foram considerados com risco de suicídio leve, 0,7% com risco moderado e 5,5% com risco alto de suicídio. Houve correlação entre risco para transtornos alimentares e risco de suicídio (p<0,001). Conclusão: Universitários com risco para os transtornos alimentares, bem como os que possuem sintomatologia sugestiva para depressão têm maior probabilidade de desenvolver o risco de suicídio.

ABSTRACT Objective: To identify symptoms of eating disorders and potential associations with risk of suicide and depressive symptoms in undergraduate students of health-related courses. Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 271 students. The following instruments were used to identify symptoms of eating disorders: Eating Attitudes Test-26 and Bulimic Investigatory Test of Edinburgh. The Hamilton Depression Rating Scale and the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview were used to screen for depressive symptoms and risk of suicide, respectively. Participants answered a questionnaire aimed to collect biodemographic data for economic classification of the sample. Results: Symptoms of eating disorders and bulimia nervosa were detected in 7.4% and 29.1% of students, respectively. Approximately 17.3% of students had symptoms of major depression, and 13.6% were at risk of suicide to some extent; risk of suicide was thought to be low in 7.4%, moderate in 0.7% and high in 5.5% of students in this subset. The risk of eating disorder development was correlated with the risk of suicide (p<0.001). Conclusion: Undergraduate students at risk of developing eating disorders, or with symptoms suggestive of depression, are more prone to commit suicide.

RESUMO Objetivo Avaliar o consumo de formulações emagrecedoras e sua possível associação com o risco de transtornos alimentares (TAs) em universitários de cursos de saúde de diversos níveis socioeconômicos. Métodos Estudo epidemiológico transversal, realizado com 276 universitários matriculados em quatro cursos da área da saúde. Para a obtenção dos dados, utilizaram-se três instrumentos autoaplicáveis: o Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26), o Bulimic Investigatory Test of Edinburgh (BITE) e, para investigar o consumo de formulações emagrecedoras, um questionário elaborado pela própria equipe de pesquisa. Para análise dos dados, aplicou-se o teste qui-quadrado, adotando-se o nível de significância de 5%. Resultados Vinte e um universitários apresentaram risco de TA pela escala EAT-26, correspondente a 7,6% dos pesquisados. A frequência do uso de formulações emagrecedoras foi de 7,2%. Houve associação significativa (p < 0,001) entre o uso de formulações emagrecedoras e a presença de risco para TA (33,3%), com percentual muito elevado quando comparado ao percentual de entrevistados sem risco de TA que estavam em uso de medicamentos (5,1%). Conclusões O consumo de formulações emagrecedoras esteve associado tanto à presença de risco para TA, nas escalas EAT-26 e BITE, quanto aos níveis socioeconômicos, principalmente para a classe de renda C.

ABSTRACT Objective to evaluate the consumption of weight loss formulations and their possible association with risk of eating disorders (ED) in university students of health courses of different socioeconomic levels. Methods A cross-sectional epidemiological study was carried out with 276 university students enrolled in four health courses. To obtain the data, three self-applied instruments were used: the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26), the Bulimic Investigatory Test of Edinburgh (BITE) and to investigate the consumption of weight-loss formulations a questionnaire prepared by the research team was used. For the data analysis, the chi-square test was applied, adopting the level of significance of 5%. Results Twenty-one university students presented a risk of ED by the EAT-26 scale, corresponding to 7.6% of the respondents. The frequency of use of weight loss formulations was 7.2%. There was a significant association (p < 0.001) between the use of weight loss formulations and the presence of risk for ED (33.3%), with a very high percentage when compared to the percentage of non-ED respondents who were using medication (5.1%). Conclusions The consumption of dietary formulations was associated with both the presence of risk for ED, on the EAT-26 and BITE scales, and on socioeconomic levels, especially for income class C.

RESUMO Apesar de utilizada como adubo verde, uma das dificuldades do cultivo da Crotalaria juncea é a baixa disponibilidade de sementes de qualidade no mercado. A colheita no momento certo contribui para a obtenção de sementes de melhor qualidade. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram avaliar a armazenabilidade e caracterizar as alterações físicas e fisiológicas das sementes colhidas em diferentes épocas. O delineamento estatístico utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, com três repetições. Os tratamentos consistiram em quatro épocas de colheita e dois tempos de armazenamento (0 e 8 meses). As colheitas foram realizadas quando as plantas atingiram 40, 60, 80 e 100% de vagens secas. As seguintes características foram avaliadas: tempo para secagem, grau de umidade, acúmulo de matéria seca, pureza física, rendimento, teste de uniformidade, coloração do tegumento, germinação, primeira contagem do teste de germinação, porcentagem de sementes duras (impermeáveis à água), índice de velocidade e porcentagem de emergência de plântulas. Os dados referentes aos estádios de maturação foram submetidos à análise de regressão. O efeito do armazenamento, dentro de cada época, foi estudado pela análise de variância conjunta dos resultados e pelo teste de Tukey (p≤0,05). A determinação do ponto de colheita baseada na porcentagem de vagens secas é eficiente. A maturidade fisiológica das sementes é atingida quando as plantas apresentam aproximadamente 86,1% de vagens secas, devendo a colheita de sementes de Crotalaria juncea ser realizada no ponto em que as plantas apresentarem entre 80 e 100% de vagens secas. O armazenamento, por oito meses, reduz a dormência em até 75,4%.

ABSTRACT Although used as green manure, one of the challenges the cultivation of Crotalaria juncea is the low availability of quality seeds in the market. The harvest at the right time contributes to the achievement of better quality seeds. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the storability and characterize the physical and physiological changes of the seeds harvested at different times. The statistical design was completely randomized with three replications. Treatments consisted of four harvest seasons and two storage periods (0 to 8 months). The samples were collected when the plants reached 40, 60, 80 and 100% of dried pods. The following characteristics were evaluated: time for drying, moisture content, dry matter accumulation, physical purity, yield, uniformity testing, seed coat coloring, germination, germination first count test, percentage of hard seeds, speed index and percentage of seedling emergence. Data from ripening stages were submitted to regression analysis. The effect of storage within each time it was analyzed by the joint analysis of variance of the results and the Tukey test (p≤0.05). The determination of the sampling point based on the percentage of dried beans is efficiently. The physiological maturity of the seeds is achieved when the plants have about 86.1% of dry beans, with the Crotalaria juncea seeds harvesting is performed at the point where the plants have between 80 and 100% of dried pods. The storage for eight months reduces dormancy up to 75.4%.

RESUMO O programa de Educação pelo Trabalho para a Saúde (PET-Saúde) fomentou a integração ensino-serviço por meio da inserção de alunos de graduação nos cenários de prática, permitindo o desenvolvimento de competências no mundo do trabalho. Este relato analisa a experiência de estudantes de Medicina no “Projeto de Avaliação da Pessoa Idosa”, desenvolvido ao longo do PET-Saúde em dois semestres do curso de Medicina da Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto. A análise situacional de saúde revelou a necessidade de um acompanhamento individualizado ao idoso. Estudantes do segundo e terceiro ano de Medicina foram capacitados a desenvolver a avaliação global de idosos, realizando avaliações domiciliárias de saúde que alcançaram 20% dos idosos da comunidade. As alterações mais prevalentes na população idosa foram avaliadas e analisadas por estatística descritiva, e as conclusões foram encaminhadas à equipe de saúde. O projeto foi relevante para os idosos, com a identificação de fatores de risco de perda de capacidade funcional, para os médicos das equipes de Saúde da Família, devido à identificação de problemas não relatados nas consultas, para os agentes comunitários de saúde, que estreitaram o relacionamento com a população idosa, e para os estudantes, que ampliaram os conhecimentos, entendendo o trabalho em equipe e desenvolvendo competências na área de saúde do idoso.

ABSTRACT The “Education through Work in Health Program” (PET-Saúde) has promoted integration between teaching and service by inserting undergraduate students in practical scenarios, allowing the development of skills in the workplace. This report analyzes medical students’ experience in the “Elderly Evaluation Project”, developed throughout the PET-Saúde in two semesters at the Federal University of Ouro Preto medical school. Situational analysis revealed the need for individualized monitoring of the elderly. Second and third-year students were able to develop an overall evaluation of the elderly, performing home health assessments that reached 20% of the community’s elderly population. The most prevalent changes were evaluated and subjected to descriptive statistical analysis, and the conclusions were fed back to the health care team. The project was important for the elderly, helping to assess and diagnose risk factors for the loss of functional capacity. The family health teams physicians stressed the importance of reporting health problems not commonly referred to in consultations. For the community health agents, it helped to strengthen their relationship with the elderly population. Finally, for the students, the project was an opportunity to increase knowledge, and develop teamwork and other skills in the area of senior health.

Os ceratocistos odontogênicos são apresentados como lesões benignas do complexo maxilomandibular, de grande potencial de crescimento e de grande destruiçäo óssea podendo, quando em múltiplas apresentações, serem associados à "Síndrome de Gorlin", existindo, para tanto, duas teorias para o seu desenvolvimento: uma delas a partir de remanescentes da lâmina dentária, e outra a partir da proliferação de células da camada basal ou do epitélio oral para a mandíbula ou maxila. Os ceratocistos odontogênicos são lesões de caráter geralmente assintomáticos, sendo comumente descobertos em exames radiográficos panorâmicos ou periapicais de rotina. Suas formas de tratamento estão relacionadas ao seu grande potencial recidivante. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo o relato de caso clínico de uma jovem de quatorze anos de idade, em que um ceratocisto odontogênico paraqueratinizado na maxila foi retirado cirurgicamente por enucleação. Tal técnica foi escolhida uma vez que a retirada completa do cisto em questão não representava complicações dos pontos de vista dental e/ou anatômico; e facilitava o estudo integral da lesão com relação ao exame anatomohistopatológico, analisando ainda seus aspectos clínicos, histopatológicos e radiográficos.

Odontogenic keratocysts are benign lesions of the maxillomandibular region with high growth potential resulting in huge bone destruction. The presence of multiple Odontogenic keratocysts can be associated with the Gorlin-Goltz syndrome. There are two accepted theories of their origin: remnants of dental lamina and proliferation of cells from the basal layer of oral epithelium into the mandible or maxilla. Odontogenic keratocysts are usually asymptomatic and are diagnosed incidentally on routine periapical or panoramic radiographs. The type of treatment is related to their high recurrence rate. The objective of the present study is to report a clinical case of a surgical treatment of a parakeratinized odontogenic keratocyst by enucleation in a fourteen-year old girl. This technique was used since the complete removal of the cyst posed no risks of complications from a dental and/or anatomical point of view. Furthermore, it facilitated the comprehensive anatomohistopathological analysis of the lesion including its clinical, histopathological, and radiological aspects.

Devido à escassez de informações sobre o período ideal de permanência das sementes de feijão em soluções tóxicas, objetivou-se identificar qual o melhor tempo de imersão das sementes de Phaseolus vulgaris em cloreto de amônio para identificação do vigor de diferentes lotes. Utilizaram-se cinco lotes de sementes da cultivar ‘Carnaval MG’, as quais foram imersas em solução de cloreto de amônio (1%) por 15, 30, 45, 60 e 75 minutos, e mantidas em BOD a 40 ºC. Em seguida, foram lavadas e colocadas para germinar. Foram realizados testes de germinação, primeira contagem, IVE, emergência de plântulas, massa da matéria fresca e seca de plântulas. O delineamento foi inteiramente casualizado, no esquema fatorial 5 x 5 (lotes de feijão x tempos de imersão), com quatro repetições. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e de regressão, sendo as médias comparadas pelo teste Tukey (α = 5%). Foi realizada a correlação de Pearson entre os tratamentos referentes à solução tóxica e os demais testes. Verificou-se que é possível estimar o vigor de diferentes lotes de sementes de feijão quando se realiza a imersão das sementes em solução tóxica de cloreto de amônio a 1% durante 30 minutos.

Considering the lack of information about the optimal permanence time of bean seeds in toxic solutions, this work aimed to evaluate the effect of different immersion times to differ of the seeds vigor. It was used five seed lots of cultivar ‘Carnaval MG’. The seeds were immersed in a solution of ammonium chloride (1%) during 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75 minutes, in BOD at 40 ºC. Then, the seeds were washed and placed to germinate. Additionally, germination tests, first count, emergence speed index (SEI), seedling emergence, fresh and dry weight of seedlings were carried out. A completely randomized design and a factorial scheme 5 x 5 (seed lots and immersion times) with four replications were employed. Analysis of variance and regression were performed and the means were compared by Tukey’s test (α = 5%). Pearson correlation was performed among treatments in toxic solution and the other tests. It was verified that it is possible to estimate the seed vigor, from different lots of beans using the immersion of seeds in a toxic solution of ammonium chloride (1%) during 30 minutes.

Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, avaliar os efeitos da cobertura do solo e da adubação orgânica sobre a temperatura e a umidade do solo, a incidência de plantas daninhas e a produtividade da alface. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial (3 x 3), em que o primeiro fator corresponde aos tipos de cobertura morta (capim tifton, capim napier e ausência de cobertura) e, o segundo, aos adubos (esterco bovino, esterco de galinhas e ausência de adubação). Analisaram-se as variáveis temperatura e umidade do solo, o número de folhas produzidas pela alface, as massas de matéria fresca e seca da parte aérea, das plantas de alface e daninhas, e o levantamento fitossociológico das plantas infestantes. As plantas adubadas com esterco de galinhas apresentaram massas de matéria fresca e seca superiores às das plantas não adubadas. A cobertura morta com capim tifton proporcionou aumento da massa de matéria seca das plantas de alface, o que pode estar relacionado com a menor temperatura dos canteiros que receberam esse material como cobertura. Commelina benghalensis foi a planta infestante mais importante no cultivo orgânico de alface. A aplicação de adubos orgânicos e a cobertura morta com capins não foram capazes de suprimir plantas daninhas e manter a umidade do solo, em áreas de cultivo de alface.

This study aimed to assess the effects of mulch and organic fertilization on soil temperature and moisture, the incidence of weeds and yield of lettuce. The experimental design was a randomized block in a 3 x 3 factorial, including tifton, napier grass and lack of covering combined with cattle manure, chicken manure and no fertilizer. We analyzed the variables temperature and soil moisture, number of leaves produced per lettuce head, fresh weight and dry weight of lettuce shoots and weeds, and the phytosociological survey of infesting weed. Plants fertilized with chicken manure had greater fresh and dry weights compared to unfertilized plants. The application of tifton provided increased dry weight of lettuce, which may be associated with the lower temperature of plots that received this material as mulch. The species Commelina benghalensis was the most relevant weed in the organic cultivation. The application of organic fertilizers and mulch with grass was not able to suppress weeds and maintain soil moisture in areas of cultivation of lettuce.
