Abstract Analytical and computational calibrations and subsequent parametric analyses were performed on the four UHPFRC beams under flexure to estimate their actual shear strength. The computational models were calibrated using different values for the CDP parameters, and a finite element mesh sensitivity study was conducted. These models predicted the experimental behavior satisfactorily, and the analytical model was also able to find the beams’ failure loads and proved to be a simple tool to estimate their behavior. The parametric analysis showed that the current beams did not require stirrups once the UHPFRC had high shear strength, and the maximum shear capacity was accurately determined.

Abstract This study aimed to identify, through a systematic literature review, what is already known about the relationship between mathematical anxiety (MA), family, parenting style and socioeconomic status. The searches were carried out in the electronic bases Portal de Periódicos Capes and Web of Science, including only articles published from 2001 to 2020. The most relevant aspects in the articles include environmental, behavioral, affective, academic and economic factors. None of the articles presented a discussion about the concept of family in historical, social and cultural terms. We discussed that, when working with parents and caregivers in the relationship between MA and family, we deal with risk factors that predict MA. We consider the importance of historical and cultural foundations that make it possible to build a posture characterized by the ability to be in the dynamics of reality and to interfere in this dynamic as such.

Résumé Cette étude vise à identifier, à travers une revue systématique de la littérature, ce qui est acquis sur la relation entre l’anxiété mathématique (AM), style parental et statut socio-économique. Les recherches, effectuées dans les bases de données électroniques Portal de Periódicos Capes et Web of Science, n’ont inclus que les articles publiés de 2001 à 2020 dont. Les aspects les plus pertinents concernent les facteurs environnementaux, comportementaux, affectifs, académiques et économiques. Aucun article n’a soulevé de discussion sur le concept de famille du point de vue historique, social et culturel. On discute que travailler avec les résponsables qui s’occupent de la relation entre l’anxiété mathématique et la famille permet d’identifier des facteurs de risque prédicteurs de cette anxiété. Il nous a semblé important de considérer quels étaient les fondements historiques et culturels qui favorisent construire une position caractérisée par la capacité d’être et d’interférer dans la dynamique de la réalité.

Resumen Este trabajo tuvo como objetivo identificar, por medio de una revisión sistemática de la literatura, lo que ya se sabe sobre la relación entre la ansiedad matemática (AM), la familia, el estilo parental y el status socioeconómico. Las búsquedas fueron realizadas en las bases de datos electrónicas Portal de Periódicos Capes y Web of Science, incluyendo únicamente artículos publicados entre 2001 y 2020. Los aspectos más relevantes en los artículos incluyen factores ambientales, conductuales, afectivos, académicos y económicos. Ninguno de los artículos presentó una discusión sobre el concepto de familia en términos históricos, sociales y culturales. Discutimos que, al trabajar con los responsables de la relación entre AM y familia, tratamos con factores de riesgo que predicen la AM. Consideramos la importancia de fundamentos históricos y culturales que posibiliten construir una postura caracterizada por la capacidad de estar en la dinámica de la realidad e interferir en esa dinámica como tal.

Abstract This paper describes an isogeometric analysis of the boundary element method, called IGABEM, applied to anisotropic 2D plane elastic problems. The Lekhnitskii's anisotropic fundamental solution is used and the singular integral terms is regularized. For the weak singularity kernel, the Telles transform is used. On the other hand, in the strong singularity term, the Singularity Subtraction Technique - SST is used. The shape functions used are the Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline - NURBS. Thus, the same mathematical representation of Computer Aided Design - CAD is used in the implemented computational code. This avoids the generation of meshes and provides an exact representation of most complex geometries. As a reflection of this isoparametric concept, errors from geometric interpolation are excluded, improving numerical results. Furthermore, to increase the numerical efficiency of the code, the NURBS are decomposed into Bézier curves. To evaluate the accuracy of the formulation, complex problems using high-order isogeometric boundary elements are analyzed. Their results are compared to analytical solutions showing good agreement.

Resumo A ocorrência de anticorpos anti-Toxoplasma gondii e anti-Neospora caninum já foram descritos em cães de praticamente todos os estados brasileiros, entretanto, no estado do Amazonas, há poucos estudos sobre esses coccídios. Neste estudo, a ocorrência de cães domiciliados de Manaus, reagentes a T. gondii e N. caninum, e os fatores de risco para a infecção foram avaliados. Amostras de sangue de 154 cães foram obtidas, e um questionário foi aplicado aos tutores com informações sobre os animais. As amostras foram analisadas quanto à presença de anticorpos anti-T. gondii e N. caninum, pela reação de imunofluorescência indireta, ponto de corte 16 e 50, respectivamente. Associações entre as variáveis estudadas e a presença de anticorpos contra os coccídios foram feitas pelo teste de qui-quadrado, exato de Fisher ou G (p<0,05). Das 154 amostras, 19 (12,3%; IC 95% = 7,1% - 17,5%) foram reagentes a T. gondii, e a associação (p <0,05) foi observada entre a presença de anticorpos e contato com outros cães. A ocorrência de cães reagentes a N. caninum foi de 1,9% (IC 95% = 0,4% - 5,6%) com 3 dos 154 cães positivos. Nenhuma associação (p>0,05) foi observada entre a presença de anticorpos anti-N. caninum e as variáveis estudadas.

Abstract The presence of antibodies anti-Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum have been described in dogs from virtually all Brazilian states, however in the state of Amazonas, there are few studies on these coccidia. In this study the occurrence of antibodies against T. gondii and N. caninum and risk factors were determined in domiciliated dogs of Manaus, AM. Blood samples were collected from 154 dogs and, during the harvest, a questionnaire was applied with questions related to the animals. The samples were analyzed, for the presence of anti-T. gondii and N. caninum antibodies, by indirect fluorescence antibody test, with cutoff of 16 and 50, respectively. Associations between the variables studied and the presence of antibodies were made by chi-square test, fisher's exact test or G test (p<0.05). Of the 154 samples, 19 (12.3% 95% CI = 7.1% - 17.5%) were reagents to T. gondii, and association (p <0.05) was observed between the presence of antibodies and contact with other dogs. The occurrence of dogs reactive to N. caninum was 1.9% (95% CI = 0.4% - 5.6%) with 3 of the 154 dogs positives, and no association (p>0.05) was observed between the presence of N. caninum antibodies, and the variables studied.

Resumo Objetivos: identificar a prevalência de interrupção do aleitamento materno (AM) no período de até 45 dias pós-parto e avaliar os fatores sociodemográficos e obstétricos associados. Métodos: coorte com 622 puérperas, selecionadas entre 2018-2019 em uma maternidade de referência do sul do Brasil. A coleta dos dados foi realizada em duas fases, a primeira na maternidade durante internação da puérpera e do recém-nascido e a segunda através de ligação telefônica, ocorrida após 60 dias do nascimento. Regressões de Poisson com variância robusta foram realizadas para identificar os fatores associados com a interrupção do AM nos primeiros 45 dias de vida. As variáveis que apresentaram p<0,20 na análise bruta foram inseridas na análise ajustada. Resultados: a interrupção do AM aos 45 dias foi identificada em 14% da amostra. Maior idade materna (RP= 0,46; IC95%= 0,22-0,93),oito anos ou menos de escolaridade (RP= 2,11; IC95%= 1,05-4,25), apoio da avó materna (RP= 1,91; IC95%= 1,20-3,06) e recebimento de complemento na maternidade (RP= 1,53; IC95%= 1,04-2,25) foram fatores relacionados com a interrupção do AM no período de 45 dias pós-parto. Conclusão: a idade materna ≥35 foi um fator protetor e a menor escolaridade, o apoio da avó materna e o recebimento de complemento na maternidade foram preditores do abandono precoce do AM.

Abstract Objectives: to evaluate and identify the prevalence of interruption of breastfeeding (BF) in the period of up to 45 days postpartum and the associated sociodemographic and obstetric factors. Methods: cohort of 622 puerperal women, selected between 2018 and 2019 in a reference maternity hospital in the South Brazil. Data collection was carried out in two phases, the first in the maternity hospital during hospitalization of the puerperal woman and the newborn and the second through a telephone call, which occurred 60 days after birth. Poisson regressions with robust variance were performed to identify the factors associated with interruption of BF in the first 45 days of life. The variables that presented p<0.20 in the crude analysis were included in the adjusted analysis. Results: the interruption of BF at 45 days was identified in 14% of the sample. Higher maternal age (PR= 0.46; CI95%= 0.22-0.93), eight years or less of education (PR= 2.11; CI95%= 1.05-4.25), support from the maternal grandmother (PR= 1.91; CI95%= 1.20-3.06) and receiving complement at the maternity hospital (PR= 1.53; CI95%= 1.04-2.25) were factors related to the interruption of BF in the 45-day postpartum period. Conclusion: maternal age ≥35 was a protective factor, and less education, the support of the maternal grandmother and receiving complement at the maternity hospital were predictors of early breastfeeding abandonment.

RESUMO Os solos da região amazônica, apesar de estarem sob uma das florestas mais densas do mundo, são caracterizados, na sua maioria, pela baixa disponibilidade de nutrientes, sendo a serapilheira a principal via de entrada de nutrientes. O objetivo desse estudo foi quantificar a biomassa de raízes finas na época seca e chuvosa do ano, incluindo o carbono orgânico do solo, e comparar os resultados nos diferentes ambientes de estudo. O estudo foi desenvolvido em ambientes de floresta nativa e reflorestamento com idade acima de 20 anos, localizado no município de Humaitá- AM. Para avaliação da biomassa de raízes, foram realizadas coletas em dois períodos do ano: seco e chuvoso. Em cada uma das áreas de estudo foram escavadas manualmente cinco trincheiras, com dimensão de 0,40 m de profundidade por 0,40 m de largura, nas profundidades de 0-5, 5-15 e 15-30 cm. Para análise de carbono orgânico foram coletadas amostras de solo em forma de torrão nas mesmas profundidades. A produção de biomassa radicular no ambiente de floresta nativa ocorreu de forma mais intensa no período chuvoso, chegando a valores de 8,19 t. ha-1, superior a 3,57 t. ha-1 encontrado em reflorestamento. A densidade em função do volume de solo mostrou que a maior concentração se encontra nos primeiros 5 centímetros de profundidade, diferenciando significativamente nas camadas de 5-15 e 15-30 cm para área de floresta nativa. O carbono orgânico do solo apresentou significância entre o período seco e chuvoso para os ambientes de floresta natural e reflorestamento com jenipapo.

ABSTRACT The soils of the Amazon region, despite being under one of the densest forests in the world, are mostly characterized by the low availability of nutrients, with litter being the main route of nutrient entry. The objective of this study was to quantify the biomass of fine roots in the dry and rainy seasons of the year, including the organic carbon of the soil, and to compare the results in different study environments. The study was carried out in environments of native forest and reforestation aged over 20 years, located in the municipality of Humaitá – AM state. To assess the root biomass, collections were carried out in two periods of the year: dry and rainy seasons. In each of the study areas, five trenches, 0.40 m deep by 0.40 m wide, were dug manually at depths of 0-5, 5-15, and 15-30 cm. For the organic carbon analysis, soil samples were collected in the form of clods at the same depths. The production of root biomass in the native forest environment occurred more intensely in the rainy season, reaching values of 8.19 t. ha-1, greater than 3.57 t. ha-1 found in reforestation. The density as a function of the soil volume showed that the highest concentration is found in the first 5 centimeters of depth, differing significantly in the 5-15 and 15-30 cm layers for native forest area. The organic carbon of the soil showed significance between the dry and rainy seasons for the natural forest environments and reforestation with genipap.

Resumo O objetivo foi descrever o padrão de consumo alimentar em crianças brasileiras entre 6 e 24 meses e verificar as diferenças entre crianças em aleitamento materno (AM) que consomem ou não outros tipos de leites não-humano (LNH), e aquelas não amamentadas (NAM). Foram usados dados da Pesquisa Nacional de Demografia e Saúde (2006). O consumo alimentar de 1455 crianças foi avaliado usando um questionário de frequência alimentar. Avaliou-se a presença de dieta saudável e diversificada. A associação entre AM e o consumo alimentar foi testado pela regressão de Poisson. Na entrevista, 15,8% das crianças estavam em AM sem consumo de LNH, 30,7% estavam em AM com consumo de LNH e 53% não estavam em AM. Mais da metade consumiam os alimentos recomendados, 78% consumiam alimentos ricos em açúcar, gordura e sal, e apenas 3,4% estavam em uma dieta saudável e diversificada. As crianças em AM que não consumiam LNH tinham quase cinco vezes mais chances de ter uma dieta saudável e diversificada e tinham 19% menos chance de consumir alimentos ricos em açúcar, gordura e sal, comparadas àquelas que também consumiam LNH e àquelas que não estavam em AM.

One indicator adopted in this study was the healthy diverse diet. The association between breastfeeding and food consumption was tested using multivariate Poisson regression. At the interview, 15.8% of the children were breastfed without consuming non-human milk, 30.7% consumed breast milk in conjunction with non-human milk, and 53% were not breastfed anymore. Over half consumed the recommended foods, 78% consumed foods rich in sugar, fat, and salt, and only 3.4% were on a healthy diverse diet. The breastfed children who did not consume non-human milks were almost five times more likely to be on a healthy diverse diet and were 19% less likely to consume foods rich in sugar, fat, and salt than the breastfed children who also consumed non-human milks and the non-breastfed children.

Abstract Introduction: Antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) are described in individuals with leprosy without the clinical features of antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS), a condition involving thromboembolic phenomena. We have described the persistence of these antibodies for over 5 years in patients with leprosy after specific treatment. Objectives: To determine whether epidemiological, clinical and immunological factors played a role in the longterm persistence of aPL antibodies in leprosy patients after multidrug therapy (MDT) had finished. Methods: The study sample consisted of 38 patients with a diagnosis of leprosy being followed up at the Dermatology and Venereology Outpatient Department at the Alfredo da Matta Foundation (FUAM) in Manaus, AM. ELISA was used to detect anticardiolipin (aCL) and anti-β2 glycoprotein I (anti-β2GPI) antibodies. Patients were reassessed on average of 5 years after specific treatment for the disease (MDT) had been completed. Results: Persistence of aPL antibodies among the 38 leprosy patients was 84% (32/38), and all had the IgM isotype. Mean age was 48.1 ± 15.9 years, and 23 (72.0%) were male. The lepromatous form (LL) of leprosy was the most common (n = 16, 50%). Reactional episodes were observed in three patients (9.4%). Eighteen (47.37%) were still taking medication (prednisone and/or thalidomide). Mean IgM levels were 64 U/mL for aCL and 62 U/mL for anti-β2GPI. In the multivariate binary logistic regression the following variables showed a significant association: age (p = 0.045, OR = 0.91 and CI 95% 0.82-0.98), LL clinical presention (p = 0.034; OR = 0.02 and CI 95% = 0.0-0.76) and bacterial index (p = 0.044; OR = 2.74 and CI 95% = 1.03-7.33). We did not find association between prednisone or thalidomide doses and positivity for aPL (p = 0.504 and p = 0.670, respectively). No differences in the variables vascular thrombosis, pregnancy morbidity, diabetes, smoking and alcoholism were found between aPL-positive and aPL-negative patients. Conclusion: Persistence of positivity for aPL antibodies was influenced by age, clinical presentation and bacterial index. However, further studies are needed to elucidate the reason for this persistence, the role played by aPL antibodies in the disease and the B cell lineages responsible for generation of these antibodies.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar se o azul de metileno (AM) pode minimizar os efeitos da lesão de isquemia-reperfusão sobre o pulmão não isquêmico em um modelo de transplante pulmonar em roedores. Métodos: Quarenta ratas Sprague-Dawley foram divididas em 20 doadoras e 20 receptoras. As 20 ratas receptoras foram divididas em dois grupos (n = 10) de acordo com o tratamento (solução salina a 0,9% vs. AM a 1%). Todos os animais foram submetidos a transplante pulmonar unilateral. As receptoras receberam 2 ml de solução salina ou de AM por via intraperitoneal antes do transplante. Após 2 h de reperfusão, os animais foram sacrificados, e foram realizadas análises histopatológicas e imuno-histoquímicas no pulmão não isquêmico. Resultados: Houve diminuição significativa da inflamação - a contagem de neutrófilos e a expressão de intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1, molécula de adesão intercelular-1) foram maiores no grupo salina em comparação com o grupo AM - e da apoptose - a expressão de caspase-3 foi maior no grupo salina, e a expressão de Bcl-2 foi maior no grupo AM. Conclusões: O AM é uma droga eficaz para a proteção de pulmões não isquêmicos contra inflamação e apoptose após transplante pulmonar unilateral em ratos.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate whether methylene blue (MB) could minimize the effects of ischemia-reperfusion injury in the nonischemic lung on a lung transplantation rodent model. Methods: Forty female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 20 donors and 20 recipients. The 20 recipient rats were divided into two groups (n = 10) according to the treatment (0.9% saline vs. 1% MB solutions). All animals underwent unilateral lung transplantation. Recipients received 2 mL of saline or MB intraperitoneally prior to transplantation. After 2 h of reperfusion, the animals were euthanized and histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses were performed in the nonischemic lung. Results: There was a significant decrease in inflammation-neutrophil count and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) expression in lung parenchyma were higher in the saline group in comparison with the MB group-and in apoptosis-caspase-3 expression was higher in the saline group and Bcl-2 expression was higher in MB group. Conclusions: MB is an effective drug for the protection of nonischemic lungs against inflammation and apoptosis following unilateral lung transplantation in rats.

This study aimed to verify the relationship between anthropometric measures (AM), blood pressure (BP) and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), physical activity (PA), sedentary behaviour (SB), predicted BMI z-score, waist circumference (WC) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) variance. A total of 245 children (8.90 ± .80years-old) were recruited from a Portuguese school. WHtR was classified according the reference ≥ 0.5. WC was measured above iliac crest. BP was assessed using a sphygmomanometer, and CRF using 20-m run test. PA and SB were assessed by accelerometers (Actigraph GT3x) and by questionnaire. Participants did not meet recommendations on PA. CRF and vigorous PA (VPA) were inversely correlated with AM. Moderate and vigorous PA were positively correlated with CRF. CRF was inversely correlated with systolic and diastolic BP. CRF and PA explained BMI z-score variance. WC and WHtR variance was predicted by CRF. These results emphasize the importance of international recommendations for PA with the purpose of developing CRF. A new emphasis should be given to CRF and interdisciplinary approaches in international recommendations. This should provide new health implications for primary care providers and school services.

Abstract Objective: To evaluate visual acuity deficiency and its association with academic performance in schoolchildren. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with 1,050 students between 05 and 17 years of age from the public school system of Barcelos, Amazonas. The examination was performed at the school itself and with the aid of Snellen's Optometric Scale. Results: Of the 1,050 students submitted to the examination, 526 (50.1%) were female. The frequency for low acuity was 6.3% (66/1050). Among the students evaluated, there was no statistically significant difference at a 5% level for visual acuity and academic performance (p = 0.223). Conclusion: The study indicated a low frequency for visual deficit in the public school students of Barcelos - AM. In spite of this, it is advisable to carry out actions directed to eye health throughout the educational public network, aiming at prevention and early treatment of these students.

Resumen Objetivo: Evaluar la deficiencia en la agudeza visual y su relación con el rendimiento escolar en alumnos. Métodos: Estudio transversal, realizado con 1.050 estudiantes entre 5 y 17 años, de la red pública de enseñanza de Barcelos, Amazonas. El examen fue realizado en la propia escuela, con la ayuda de la Escala Optométrica de Snellen. Resultados: De los 1.050 estudiantes sometidos al examen, 526 (50,1%) eran mujeres. La frecuencia de baja agudeza fue del 6,3% (66/1050). Entre los estudiantes evaluados, no hubo diferencia estadísticamente significativa en el nivel 5% de la agudeza visual y el rendimiento escolar (p = 0,223). Conclusión: El estudio indicó baja frecuencia para estudiantes con discapacidad visual en Barcelos. Sin embargo, se recomiendan acciones dirigidas a la salud ocular en todas las escuelas públicas, visando la prevención y el tratamiento precoz de estos estudiantes.

Métodos: Estudo transversal realizado com 1.050 estudantes entre 05 e 17 anos de idade, da rede pública de ensino de Barcelos, Amazonas. O exame foi realizado na própria escola e com o auxílio da Escala optométrica de Snellen. Resultados: Dos 1.050 estudantes submetidos ao exame, 526 (50,1%) pertenciam ao sexo feminino. A frequência para baixa acuidade foi de 6,3% (66/1050). Entre os alunos avaliados, não houve diferença estatisticamente significativa em nível de 5% para acuidade visual e desempenho escolar (p = 0,223). Conclusão: O estudo indicou baixa frequência para déficit visual nos estudantes da rede pública de ensino de Barcelos - AM. Apesar disso, aconselha-se a realização de ações voltadas à saúde ocular em toda rede pública de ensino, visando à prevenção e o tratamento precoce desses estudantes.

Resumo Objetivo: Avaliar a deficiência na acuidade visual e sua associação com o desempenho escolar em escolares. Métodos: Estudo transversal realizado com 1.050 estudantes entre 05 e 17 anos de idade, da rede pública de ensino de Barcelos, Amazonas. O exame foi realizado na própria escola e com o auxílio da Escala optométrica de Snellen. Resultados: Dos 1.050 estudantes submetidos ao exame, 526 (50,1%) pertenciam ao sexo feminino. A frequência para baixa acuidade foi de 6,3% (66/1050). Entre os alunos avaliados, não houve diferença estatisticamente significativa em nível de 5% para acuidade visual e desempenho escolar (p = 0,223). Conclusão: O estudo indicou baixa frequência para déficit visual nos estudantes da rede pública de ensino de Barcelos - AM. Apesar disso, aconselha-se a realização de ações voltadas à saúde ocular em toda rede pública de ensino, visando à prevenção e o tratamento precoce desses estudantes.

Abstract Objective: To evaluate visual acuity deficiency and its association with academic performance in schoolchildren. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with 1,050 students between 05 and 17 years of age from the public school system of Barcelos, Amazonas. The examination was performed at the school itself and with the aid of Snellen's Optometric Scale. Results: Of the 1,050 students submitted to the examination, 526 (50.1%) were female. The frequency for low acuity was 6.3% (66/1050). Among the students evaluated, there was no statistically significant difference at a 5% level for visual acuity and academic performance (p = 0.223). Conclusion: The study indicated a low frequency for visual deficit in the public school students of Barcelos - AM. In spite of this, it is advisable to carry out actions directed to eye health throughout the educational public network, aiming at prevention and early treatment of these students.

Resumen Objetivo: Evaluar la deficiencia en la agudeza visual y su relación con el rendimiento escolar en alumnos. Métodos: Estudio transversal, realizado con 1.050 estudiantes entre 5 y 17 años, de la red pública de enseñanza de Barcelos, Amazonas. El examen fue realizado en la propia escuela, con la ayuda de la Escala Optométrica de Snellen. Resultados: De los 1.050 estudiantes sometidos al examen, 526 (50,1%) eran mujeres. La frecuencia de baja agudeza fue del 6,3% (66/1050). Entre los estudiantes evaluados, no hubo diferencia estadísticamente significativa en el nivel 5% de la agudeza visual y el rendimiento escolar (p = 0,223). Conclusión: El estudio indicó baja frecuencia para estudiantes con discapacidad visual en Barcelos. Sin embargo, se recomiendan acciones dirigidas a la salud ocular en todas las escuelas públicas, visando la prevención y el tratamiento precoz de estos estudiantes.
