Abstract Sisal (Agave sisalana) is a plant exploited in semi-arid regions of Brazil for fiber production, but the floral scape of sisal (peduncle) is collected and often burned, causing environmental problems, even through irregular disposal. To circumvent this scenario, the objective of this work was to produce reconstituted panels using the sisal arrow and castor-based polyurethane resin. The panels were obtained using 175 g of crushed sisal arrow core with dimensions smaller than 2 mm and adopting 10% castor-based polyurethane resin and The samples were pressed under tension of 2 MPa. The properties of reconstituted panel were evaluated through NBR 14810-1 (ABNT, 2013) and NBR 14810-2 (ABNT, 2018), the physical properties were investigated: moisture, density, thickness swelling and absorption; as well as mechanical properties: MOR, MOE, internal bond and parallel compression. The found results show that the panel is classified as low density (419.8 kg/m³), and with physical and mechanical properties similars to other panels of the same classification in the literature. For average values of MOR and MOE it was found 5.24 MPa and 147.49 MPa, respectively. For internal bonding it was found 0.14 MPa and for parallel compression properties it was found 1.14 MPa.

Resumo O sisal (Agave sisalana) é uma planta explorada nas regiões semiáridas do Brasil para produção de fibras, mas o escapo floral do sisal (flecha) é coletado e frequentemente queimado causando problemas ambientais, até mesmo pelo descarte irregular. Para contornar este cenário, o objetivo deste trabalho foi produzir painéis reconstituídos usando a flecha do sisal e resina poliuretana à base de mamona. Os painéis foram obtidos empregando 175 g do miolo da flecha de sisal triturada com dimensões inferiores a 2 mm e adotando 10% de resina poliuretana à base de mamona e as amostras foram prensadas com tensão de 2 MPa. Avaliou-se no painel reconstituído, através da NBR 14810-1 (ABNT, 2013) e NBR 14810-2 (ABNT, 2018) as propriedades físicas: umidade, densidade, inchamento e absorção; bem como as propriedades mecânicas: MOR, MOE, força de ligação e compressão paralela. Os resultados encontrados mostram que o painel é classificado como de baixa densidade (419,8 kg/m³), e de propriedades físicas e mecânicas semelhantes a outros painéis de mesma classificação da literatura. Para MOR e MOE foram encontrados 5,24 MPa e 147,49 MPa de média, respectivamente. Já os ensaios de tração perpendicular e compressão paralela obtiveram resultados de 0,14 MPa e 1,14 MPa, respectivamente.

The ancient problem of tides, phenomena observed since the humanity early days, still today provides important analysis. In this work, starting with the study of tides, but considering the law gravity, we determine Moon’s characteristics, such as mass, volume, and some aspects of its chemical composition. This approach is carried out by using an inverse-like method, proposed by Henrique Fleming. The formulation provides a way to revisit the Galilei qualitative studies about tides, starting exclusively from the Earth motion. We point out the importance of galilean formulation, what is under criticism in some studies.

O antigo problema das marés, fenômeno observado desde os primórdios da humanidade, ainda nos lega análises importantes. Nesse trabalho, a partir do estudo desse fenômeno, mas levando em conta a gravitação, determinamos características da Lua, tais como como a massa, volume e aspectos da composição química. Essa determinação é feita usando um tipo de método inverso, proposto por Henrique Fleming. Essa abordagem nos permite reexaminar a análise qualitativa de Galilei sobre o problema, partindo exclusivamente dos movimentos da Terra. Apontamos para a importância da formulação galileana, criticada em certos estudos.

Abstract The potential of using calcined clay as supplementary cementitious material (SCM) stems from the global availability of clayey raw materials. The calcination dehydroxylates kaolinite and forms a reactive amorphous matrix. The kaolinite contained in the raw materials is a pre-indicator of the possible post-calcination reactivity. In the red ceramic industry, raw material is predominantly composed of clays and quartz. The sintered products discarded in this sector, called red ceramic waste (RCW), present, after comminution, the ability to react with lime depending on the kaolinite content contained in the raw material and its physical-chemical and mineralogical characteristics. In this work, the reactivity comparison was made of two samples of calcined clays from raw materials from different poles of ceramics, with varied kaolinite contents, with the respective RCWs. The reactivity tests were: modified Chapelle, Frattini, R³ test, and performance index (ID), with the variation of Portland cement type. The reactivity depends on the kaolinite content contained in the raw material and the BET specific surface area of the comminuted calcined material. The analysis of the results indicated little influence of the heat treatment on the reactivity of the calcined materials.

Resumo A potencialidade do uso de argila calcinada como material cimentício suplementar (MCS) decorre da disponibilidade global de matérias-primas argilosas. A calcinação desidroxila a caulinita e forma uma matriz amorfa reativa. O teor de caulinita nas matérias-primas é um pré-indicador da possível reatividade pós calcinação. Na indústria de cerâmica vermelha, a matéria-prima é composta predominantemente de argilominerais e quartzo. Os produtos sinterizados descartados nesse setor, denominados resíduo de cerâmica vermelha (RCV), apresentam, após cominuição, capacidade de reagir com cal a depender do teor de caulinita contido na matéria-prima e de suas características físico-químicas e mineralógicas. Neste trabalho foi realizada a comparação da reatividade de duas amostras de argilas calcinadas provenientes de matérias-primas de diferentes polos ceramistas, com distintos teores de caulinita, com os respectivos RCVs. Os ensaios dereatividade foram: Chapelle modificado, Frattini,teste R³ eíndice de desempenho (ID), com variação do tipo de cimento Portland. A reatividade foi dependente do teor de caulinita contido na matéria-prima e da área superficial específica BET do material calcinado cominuído. A análise dos resultados indicou pouca influência do tratamento térmico na reatividade dos materiais calcinados.

Introduction: SARS-CoV-2 began in 2020 and caused important changes in the number of transplants performed in hospitals and in the protocols for admitting candidates to perform the procedure. The Brazilian Association of Organ Transplantation (ABTO) recommends not performing transplants from donors with active COVID-19 infection, positive test results or with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. The hepatic repercussions related to COVID-19 are presented in some reports in the medical literature. Liver changes resulting from other corona viruses such as SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV are well documented. The Hospital de Clínicas of the State University of Campinas is a tertiary center that performs solid organ transplants. Objectives: To carry out a perioperative, retrospective, descriptive analysis of liver transplants in the context of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic carried out at the Hospital das Clínicas of the State University of Campinas from March 2020 to July 2021. Materials and Methods: Retrospective, descriptive, longitudinal cohort study based on the review of medical records of patients undergoing liver transplantation in the context of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic from March 2020 to July 2021 at the clinical hospital of the State University of Campinas. Results: Retrospective analysis was performed on 57 patients in the period. Only 1 patient needed to be excluded because he was under 18 years old. Of the 56 patients, 52 underwent RT-PCR laboratory testing and chest tomography (CT). Of these 52 patients, only 2 tested positive, one pre-transplant (TX) and one post-operatively (post-op). Regarding chest CT scans, none of them showed typical changes for COVID pre-TX, in the post-op 4 patients presented typical chest CT scans. The average age was 55.86 years. The mortality rate was 38% and no deaths were attributed to COVID 19. The average MELD-Na scale was 20.94. Conclusion: The present study carried out at the Hospital de Clínicas da Unicamp analyzed the clinical, laboratory and radiological association to better elucidate the variables determined by COVID-19 in its diagnosis and in-hospital management. It is concluded that the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic had an impact on the routine of liver transplantation worldwide and on the service in which the study was carried out.

Introdução: A pandemia causada pelo SARS-CoV-2 teve início no ano de 2020 e ocasionou mudanças importantes no número de transplantes realizados nos hospitais e nos protocolos de admissão de candidatos para realização do procedimento. A Associação Brasileira de Transplante de Orgãos (ABTO) recomendava não realizar transplante de doadores com infecção COVID-19 ativa, teste positivo ou com Síndrome Respiratória Aguda Grave. As repercussões hepáticas relacionadas a COVID-19 são apresentadas em alguns relatos presentes na literatura médica. Estão bem documentadas as alterações hepáticas decorrentes de outros coronavírus tais como SARS-CoV e MERS-CoV. O Hospital de Clínicas da Universidade Estadual de Campinas é um centro terciário que realiza transplantes de órgãos sólidos. Objetivos: Realizar a análise retrospectiva descritiva perioperatória dos transplantes hepáticos no contexto da pandemia por SARS-CoV-2 realizados no hospital das clínicas da Universidade Estadual de Campinas no período de Março de 2020 a Julho de 2021. Materiais e Métodos: Estudo retrospectivo, descritivo de coorte longitudinal baseado na revisão dos prontuários dos pacientes submetidos ao transplante hepático no contexto da pandemia por SARS-CoV-2 no período de Março de 2020 a Julho de 2021 no hospital de clínicas da Universidade Estadual de Campinas. Resultados: A análise retrospectiva foi realizada em 57 pacientes no período. Apenas 1 paciente precisou ser excluído por ter menos de 18 anos. Dos 56 pacientes, 52 realizaram coleta do exame laboratorial RT-PCR e tomografia (TC) de tórax. Desses 52 pacientes apenas 2 positivaram o exame, um pré transplante (TX) e um no pós-operatório (pós-op). Em relação às TC de tórax nenhuma apresentava alterações típicas para COVID pré TX, no pós-op 4 pacientes apresentaram TC típicas. A média de idade foi de 55,86 anos. A taxa de mortalidade foi de 38% e nenhum óbito foi atribuído ao COVID 19. A escala de MELDNa média foi de 20,94. Conclusão: O presente estudo realizado no Hospital de Clínicas da Unicamp analisou a associação clínica, laboratorial e radiológica para melhor elucidar as variáveis determinadas pela COVID-19 no seu diagnóstico e manejo intra-hospitalar. Conclui-se que a pandemia por SARS-CoV-2 teve impacto na rotina de realização do transplante hepático mundialmente e no serviço no qual o estudo foi realizado.

RESUMO: A co-inoculação entre bactérias do gênero Bradyrhizobium e Azospirillum pode potencializar a nodulação e promover o desenvolvimento do sistema radicular da soja [Glycine max (L.) Merrill], contribuindo com o aumento na produtividade de grãos, além da redução nos custos de produção e contaminação dos recursos naturais. A utilização de cobalto (Co) e molibdênio (Mo), também pode favorecer a fixação biológica de nitrogênio. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da co-inoculação de bactérias associadas a aplicação de Co e Mo na cultura da soja. O delineamento utilizado foi de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 2 x 6, na presença e ausência de Co e Mo e cinco formas de utilização dos produtos Bradyrhizobium e Azospirillum, mais controle, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram formados pela testemunha (não inoculada + 20 kg de N ha-1); inoculação com Bradyrhizobium na semente (100 mL ha-1) + 20 kg de N ha-1; inoculação de sementes com Bradyrhizobium (100 mL ha-1) e três tratamentos aplicando Bradyrhizobium + Azospirillum em sulco em diferentes doses. Foram avaliados altura de inserção da primeira vagem, número total de vagens e grãos por planta, massa de 100 grãos e produtividade de grãos. A inoculação de Bradyrhizobium japonicum associado a co-inoculação de Azospirillum brasilense via foliar e ao Co e Mo, proporcionou incrementos no número de vagens por planta, número de grãos por vagem e massa de 100 grãos, refletindo acréscimos na produtividade de grãos. O uso de Co e Mo, em média, aumentou o rendimento da soja em 10%, resultando numa produtividade média de 4904 kg ha-1.

ABSTRACT: Co-inoculation between bacteria of the genera Bradyrhizobium and Azospirillum can enhance the nodulation and promote the development of the soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] root system, contributing to the increase in grain yield, in addition to the reduction in production costs and contamination of natural resources. Cobalt (Co) and molybdenum (Mo) use can also favor biological nitrogen fixation. The research evaluated the co-inoculation effect of bacteria associated with the Co and Mo application in soybean crop. The randomized blocks design was employed, in a 2 x 6 factorial scheme, presence and absence of Co and Mo and five ways of using the products Bradyrhizobium and Azospirillum, plus control, with four replications. The treatments were formed by the control (not inoculated + 20 kg N ha-1); seed inoculation with Bradyrhizobium (100 mL ha-1) + 20 kg N ha-1; seed inoculation with Bradyrhizobium (100 mL ha-1) and three treatments applying Bradyrhizobium + Azospirillum in furrow, in different doses. Height of insertion of the first pod, total number of pods and grains per plant, weight of 100 grains and grain yield were evaluated. Inoculation of Bradyrhizobiumjaponicum associated with co-inoculation of Azospirillumbrasilense via foliar and Co and Mo, provided increases in the number of pods per plant, number of grains per pod and weight of 100 grains, reflecting increases in grain yield.The use of Co and Mo, on average, increased soybean yield by 10%, resulting in an average yield of 4,904 kg ha-1.

Resumo O objetivo foi caracterizar a atuação da atenção primária à saúde (APS) no cuidado aos usuários com COVID-19, identificando fatores facilitadores e os constrangimentos para a resposta das equipes de APS no enfrentamento à pandemia. Estudo transversal com amostra representativa das unidades básicas de saúde (UBS) brasileiras, na forma de inquérito. Participaram do estudo 907 UBS das cinco regiões do país. A coleta de dados foi entre julho e novembro de 2021, por meio de questionário on-line. Os resultados mostram que as UBS das regiões Sul e Sudeste tiveram melhores condições de enfrentamento da pandemia em termos de equipamentos de proteção e estrutura de comunicação e as UBS das regiões Norte e Nordeste tiveram melhor desempenho nas ações relacionadas à vigilância em saúde, atividades educativas, busca ativa de contatos, monitoramento de casos e notificação no sistema de vigilância de síndrome gripal. O processo de vacinação contra a COVID-19 ocorria em 70% das UBS em nível nacional, 28% tiveram que suspender a vacinação da primeira dose por falta do imunizante e 25% da segunda dose. Conclui-se que a APS brasileira realizou importante trabalho no enfrentamento à pandemia apesar das dificuldades decorrentes da ausência de uma coordenação nacional.

Abstract The aim of this study was to describe the role of PHC in the delivery of care to COVID-19 patients, identifying facilitating factors and constraints to the response of PHC teams to the pandemic. We conducted a cross-sectional survey-based study with a nationally representative sample of primary health care centers (PCCs). A total of 907 PCCs from the country’s five regions participated in the study. Data was collected between July and November 2021 using an online survey. The results show that PCCs in the South and Southeast were better prepared to respond to the pandemic in terms of availability of personal protective equipment and communications facilities, while PCCs in the North and Northeast performed better for health surveillance actions, educational activities, contact tracing, case monitoring and notification of cases in the influenza surveillance system. Seventy per cent of PCCs administered COVID-19 vaccines at national level and 28% and 25% had to suspend the first and second doses of the vaccine, respectively. The findings show that primary care services played an important role in the response to the pandemic despite challenges caused by the lack of national coordination.

ABSTRACT The objective of this article was to evaluate the relationship between investor attention, both professional and non-professional, and the efficiency of the Brazilian stock market, as measured by the predictability of daily returns. The role of investor attention in the capital market is a controversial issue, since some studies show that it is capable of inducing efficiency, while others point out that it essentially contributes to greater volatility due to behavioral biases. This study contributes to the behavioral finance literature by pioneering the analysis of the effect of investor attention on Brazilian stock prices. Moreover, we found no previous studies that compare the effect of investor attention on market efficiency across investor classes, as measured by access to different financial information providers. The analysis of investor attention, as measured by the volume of searches on the internet, is relevant given the growing abundance of data and digital inclusion. The evidence of an effect of attention on market efficiency contributes to the critique of this classical hypothesis. The methodology consisted of estimating autoregressive models using daily data from 2018 to 2021 on search volume, returns, and transaction volume for Brazilian stocks, including the interaction between returns and search volume, to assess the influence of attention on price dynamics. In this work, we find that in the Brazilian stock market, investor attention contributes to greater market efficiency, as measured by lower predictability of returns, but the most pronounced effect comes from the attention of non-professional investors. Understanding how attention affects the incorporation of information into prices contributes to a critique of the market efficiency hypothesis, as well as allowing for profits to be made by exploiting opportunities based on the level of attention of a particular class of investors.

RESUMO O objetivo deste artigo foi avaliar a relação entre atenção do investidor, tanto o profissional quanto o não profissional, e a eficiência de mercado brasileiro de ações medida pela previsibilidade dos retornos diários. O papel da atenção do investidor no mercado de capitais é tema controverso, dado que, enquanto alguns estudos evidenciam que ela é capaz de induzir eficiência, outros apontam que contribui essencialmente para maior volatilidade devido a vieses comportamentais. Este trabalho contribui para a literatura de finanças comportamentais, sendo pioneiro na análise do efeito que a atenção do investidor induz aos preços das ações brasileiras. Além disso, não encontramos trabalhos anteriores que comparassem o efeito na eficiência de mercado advindo da atenção de diferentes classes de investidores, medida por meio do acesso a diferentes provedores de informações financeiras. A análise da atenção do investidor medida pelo volume de buscas feitas na internet é pertinente ante a crescente abundância de dados e a inclusão digital. Evidenciar um efeito da atenção na eficiência de mercado contribui para a crítica a essa hipótese clássica. O método consistiu em estimar modelos autorregressivos usando dados diários de 2018 a 2021 de volume de buscas, retornos e volume de transações de ações brasileiras, incluindo interação entre retorno e volume de buscas, para avaliar a influência da atenção na dinâmica dos preços. Neste trabalho, evidenciamos que, no mercado de ações brasileiro, a atenção do investidor contribui para maior eficiência de mercado, medida pela menor previsibilidade dos retornos, mas o efeito mais proeminente advém da atenção do investidor não profissional. Entender como a atenção influencia a incorporação da informação nos preços contribui para uma crítica à hipótese de eficiência de mercado, além de possibilitar a obtenção de ganhos explorando oportunidades a partir do nível de atenção de determinada classe de investidores.

ABSTRACT The Cerambycidae Oncideres impluviata (Germar, 1823) is an important insect pest for Acacia mearnsii De Wild in Southern Brazil. The damage caused by their girdling behavior reduces tree productivity, specially in the early years of plant establishment, when girdling is performed on the main trunk of trees. Here, we used a fragment of the mtDNA COI gene to analyze the genetic diversity, population structure and demography of O. impluviata in Southern Brazil, as well as to present the first hypothesis of phylogenetic relationships among species of the genus Oncideres. Our results identified five distinct haplotypes among the populations of O. impluviata, with the most common haplotype identified as O.imp_COI_01. The phylogenetic inferences corroborated the monophyly of O. impluviata with maximum statistical support. In addition, the phylogeny recovered three main population strains that are largely congruent with the haplotype network, which includes two lineages that are found in different edaphic regions of Rio Grande do Sul (Serra do Sudeste and Encosta Inferior do Nordeste). This is the first molecular phylogenetic assessment of O. impluviata. Our findings provide insights into the evolution of a significant species for the Brazilian forestry sector, as well as new resources for planning of pest management strategies.

Abstract Maputo - the Mozambican capital - has expanded itself vertiginously in the midst of the late independence process (1975). Its population has been multiplied about twelve times during the decades from 1950 to 2020, reaching more than 1.1 million inhabitants. The political, commercial, and financial center of the country, the urban fabric of the capital is the stage for complex processes of economic growth and spatial segregation triggered in recent decades. The central region, known locally as the "cement city", concentrates on modern and widely diversified infrastructures. Squares and parks, luxury condos surrounded by modern offices, international standard hotels, shopping, and a set of pharaonic constructions - built at a cost of billions - set the landscape tone of progress induced and concentrated in favor of a small elite. However, beyond this "stronghold", around 92% of the population lives in the peripheral part of Maputo, popularly known as the "reed city". These, however, are located in very precarious housing, produced informally by the residents themselves, and subjected to the complete absence of infrastructure and public services. These issues contribute directly to the fact that Mozambique has the ninth-worst Human Development Index (HDI) on the planet. In this way, the present article - elaborated from fieldwork, interdisciplinary discussions and dialogues undertaken within the scope of an international scientific project between universities in Brazil and Mozambique - seeks to present and interpret the set of urban connections that make Maputo a fragmented and complex city, full of continuous socio-territorial transformations in which multiple clashes emerge linked to segregation, gentrification, real estate speculation, among others.

Resumo Maputo - capital moçambicana - expandiu-se de forma vertiginosa em meio ao processo de independência tardia (1975). Sua população multiplicou cerca de doze vezes durante as décadas de 1950 à 2020, atingindo mais de 1,1 milhão de habitantes. Centro político, comercial e financeiro do país, o tecido urbano da capital é palco de complexos processos de crescimento econômico e segregação espacial desencadeados nas últimas décadas. A região central, nomeada localmente de “cidade de cimento”, concentra infraestruturas modernas e amplamente diversificadas. Praças e parques, condomínios de luxo cercados de modernos escritórios, hotéis de padrão internacional, shoppings e um conjunto de obras faraônicas - erguidas a cifras bilionárias - dão o tom paisagístico de um progresso induzido e concentrado em favor de uma pequena elite. Todavia, para além deste “reduto”, cerca de 92% da população habita a parcela periférica de Maputo, popularmente designada como “cidade de caniço”. Estes, por sua vez, encontram-se alocados em habitações muito precarizadas, produzidas de maneira informal pelos próprios moradores e, em muito, submetidos à ausência completa de infraestruturas e serviços públicos. Questões que contribuem diretamente para que Moçambique possua o nono pior Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano (IDH) do planeta. Desta forma, o presente artigo - elaborado a partir de trabalhos de campo, discussões interdisciplinares e diálogos empreendidos no âmbito de projeto científico internacional entre universidades do Brasil e de Moçambique - busca apresentar e interpretar o conjunto de nexos urbanos que fazem de Maputo uma cidade fragmentada e complexa, repleta de contínuas transformações socioterritoriais em que emergem múltiplos embates vinculados à segregação, gentrificação, especulação imobiliária, dentre outros.

Abstract For the first time in Brazil, Contracaecum australe is recorded parasitizing Phalacrocorax brasilianus (Aves, Suliformes, Phalacrocoracidae) from the Marine Extractive Reserve of Soure on Marajó Island, Brazilian Amazon. Its morphology revealed a body with a transversally striated cuticle, smooth or slightly cleft interlabia, lips with auricles, labial papillae, and conspicuous amphids. In males, the presence of the median papilla on the upper lip of the cloaca and spicules that reach almost half of the body of the parasite. These morphological characters, added to the number and distribution of the pre- and postcloacal papillae of the male specimens, and supported by the molecular phylogeny from the analysis of the ITS-1, 5.8S and ITS-2 genes, allowed the identification of these parasites.

Resumo Pela primeira vez no Brasil, Contracaecum australe é registrado parasitando Phalacrocorax brasilianus (Aves, Suliformes, Phalacrocoracidae) da Reserva Extrativista Marinha de Soure na Ilha de Marajó, Amazônia brasileira. Sua morfologia revelou corpo com cutícula estriada transversalmente, interlábios lisos ou levemente fendidos, lábios com aurículas, papilas labiais e anfídeos conspícuos. Nos machos, observa-se a presença da papila mediana no lábio superior da cloaca e espículos que atingem quase a metade do corpo do parasito. Esses caracteres morfológicos, somados ao número e distribuição das papilas pré e pós-cloacais dos espécimes machos, e apoiados pela filogenia molecular a partir da análise dos genes ITS-1, 5.8S e ITS-2, permitiram a identificação desses parasitos.

ABSTRACT Objective Evaluate the effects of maternal low-protein diet on the oxidative stress in the hypothalamus of 60-day-old rats. Methods Male Wistar rats were divided into two experimental groups according to the mother’s diet during pregnancy and lactation; control group (NP:17% casein n=6) and a malnourished group (LP:8% casein n=6). At 60 days of life, the rats were sacrificed for the collection of the hypothalamus for further biochemical analysis. Results Our results showed an increase in oxidative stress in malnourished group, observed through an increase in carbonyl content (p=0.0357), a reduction in the activity of the glutathione-S-transferase enzyme (p=0.0257), and a reduction in the non-enzymatic antioxidant capacity evidenced by the decrease in the ratio reduced glutathione/oxidized glutathione (p=0.0406) and total thiol levels (p=0.0166). Conclusion A low-protein diet during pregnancy and lactation is closely associated with increased oxidative stress and reduced antioxidant capacity in the hypothalamus of sixty-day-old rats.

RESUMO Objetivo Avaliar os efeitos da restrição proteica materna sobre o estresse oxidativo no hipotálamo de ratos de 60 dias de idade. Métodos Ratos Wistar machos foram divididos em dois grupos experimentais de acordo com a dieta da mãe durante a gestação e lactação: grupo controle (NP: 17% caseína n=6) e grupo desnutrido (LP: 8% caseína n=6). Aos 60 dias de vida, os ratos foram sacrificados para coleta do hipotálamo para posterior análise bioquímica. Resultados Os resultados demonstraram aumento do estresse oxidativo no grupo desnutrido, observado através do aumento do conteúdo de cabonilas (p=0,0357) e redução da atividade da enzima glutationa-S-transferase (p=0,0257) e da capacidade antioxidante não enzimática, evidenciada pela queda da razão glutationa reduzida/glutationa oxidada (p=0,0406) e dos níveis de tióis totais (p=0,0166). Conclusão Uma dieta com baixo teor de proteínas durante a gestação e lactação está intimamente associada ao aumento do estresse oxidativo e à redução da capacidade antioxidante no hipotálamo de ratos de 60 dias de vida.

ORGANIC MATTER SOURCES TO THE SUPERFICIAL SEDIMENT OF THE ITAPICURU RIVER ESTUARY (BAHIA - BRAZIL). The present study evaluated the sources of organic matter (O.M.) in the Itapicuru River estuary (IRE), which is in an environmentally protected area surrounded by the Atlantic Rainforest in the northeast of Brazil. Eleven sediment samples were collected along the study area. Total organic carbon (TOC) and the δ13C values were determined using an elemental analyzer coupled with an isotope ratio mass spectrometer. The n-alkanes composition was evaluated through gas chromatography coupled to a flame ionization detector. TOC and total n-alkanes concentrations ranged, respectively, from not detected to 0.72%, and from lower the limit of detection to 5024 ng g-1. There was a significant concentration of n-C22 and n-C24 in some samples showing bacterial production and recycling of O.M. Values of δ13C ranged from -27.6 to -21.9‰. Carbon preference index, terrestrial-aquatic ratio, aquatic production index, average chain length, and the ratio between n-C29 and n-C31 values ranged, respectively, from 1.42 to 4.11; 2.82 to 9.40; 0.00 to 0.25; 27.7 to 29.9; and 0.27 to 0.43. These results show that concentrations of O.M. to IRE are low, and its main source is C3 plants, such as those from mangroves. There is also the contribution of macrophytes.

ABSTRACT The effects of diets containing oilseeds were measured to evaluate the productive and economic parameters in the finishing of young, feedlot Nellore bulls. Twenty-four young Nellore bulls were used, with an initial body weight (BW) of 311.46±0.37 kg and 24 months of age, distributed into individual stalls ( 4 × 20 m) in a completely randomized design, totaling four treatments with six repetitions per treatment. Four diets (control, based on corn and soybean meal, and three diets containing cottonseed, soybean, and sunflower) were evaluated. Feed and orts were measured daily to calculate intake and costs. The dry matter intake of the control group was higher than soybean (10.64 kg/day), cotton (9.88 kg/day), and sunflower (9.30 kg/day) treatments, respectively. The cottonseed treatment showed the highest average neutral detergent fiber intake. There was a dietary effect of diets on average daily gain, total weight gain, and final weight. The soybean treatment showed the highest performance, total gain (232.55 kg), and final weight (544.38 kg). Oilseed intake can modify the fatty acids profile in the meat, decreasing its saturated fatty acid content. Whole soybean seed favors performance, improves feed efficiency, fatty acid profile, and fat distribution in the carcass, and can reduce production costs.

ABSTRACT Introduction: COVID-19 can trigger different clinical presentations in distinct population groups, some of which are considered at higher risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Little is known about the susceptibility of certain populations to the infection. Objectives: We aimed to determine the prevalence of COVID-19 among People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWH) attending a tertiary public hospital in Salvador, Brazil, patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis and Hospital's Healthcare Workers (HCW), and to compare their SARS-CoV-2 antibody levels. Methods: In this observational study we included 2294 participants from June 9, 2020 to August 10, 2021. IgG SARS-CoV-2 antibodies from all participants (275 PLWH, 42 with active tuberculosis and 1977 healthcare workers) were measured. Prevalence of COVID-19 and antibodies indexes were compared across groups. Results: We detected a higher prevalence of COVID-19 in patients with active tuberculosis (42.9%) than in PLWH (22.5%) or HCW (11.7%). Previously vaccinated participants with a COVID-19 history had median higher IgG antibody indexes (8.2; IQR: 5.5–10) than those vaccinated who did not have COVID-19 until the time of this study (4.1; IQR: 1.6–6.2, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Prevalence of previous SARS-CoV-2 infection was higher among tuberculosis patients than that found in HCW and PLWH, but antibodies levels were similar across groups.

ABSTRACT A 49-year-old patient with changes in the nails of the hallux for 10 years was diagnosed with onychomycosis. The identity of the causative agent was confirmed as Cladosporium halotolerans from the Cladosporium sphaerospermum species complex using molecular techniques. MALDI-TOF identified the agent as C. sphaerospermum complex species. Overall, species such as onychomycosis agents should attract special attention to avoid mistakes in the identification process while considering a probable contaminant as responsible for the disease. These species deserve attention since there are rare descriptions of them as causes of onychomycosis. It is important to recognize them as causes of disease and not just as a probable contaminant.
