Resumo A espécie Eugenia involucrata DC. é uma planta nativa do Brasil e tradicionalmente utilizada para problemas intestinais, porém, poucas pesquisas documentam sobre seu potencial biológico e perfil fitoquímico. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma prospecção fitoquímica preliminar, o potencial antimicrobiano e antioxidante dos extratos de E. involucrata. A partir das folhas de E. involucrata, foram obtidos extratos aquosos e orgânicos com os seguintes solventes (etanol, metanol, hexano, acetona, diclorometano e acetato de etila). A prospecção fitoquímica detectou a presença de saponinas, esteroides, flavonóides e taninos nos extratos. Os extratos etanólico e metanólico apresentaram atividade antimicrobiana para a maioria das cepas bacterianas testadas, assim como para a levedura Candida albicans, com concentrações entre 3,12 e 50 mg/mL. Os extratos etanólico e metanólico apresentaram alto potencial de sequestro de radicais livres (> 90%). O extrato metanólico apresentou IC50 estatisticamente igual ao encontrado para o antioxidante comercial BHT (p <0,05). Os extratos brutos obtidos com etanol e metanol foram os mais promissores. Esses resultados sugerem que os extratos metanólico, etanólico e aquoso são uma fonte promissora de bioativos naturais.

Abstract The species Eugenia involucrata DC. is a plant native to Brazil and is traditionally used for intestinal problems, however, little research has documented about its biological potential and phytochemical profile. Thus, the objective of this study was to carry out preliminary phytochemical prospecting, antimicrobial and antioxidant potential of E. involucrata extracts. Using the E. involucrata leaves, aqueous and organic extracts were obtained using the following solvents (ethanol, methanol, hexane, acetone, dichloromethane and ethyl acetate). The phytochemical prospecting detected the presence of saponins, steroids, flavonoids and tannins in the extracts. Ethanolic and methanolic extracts presented antimicrobial activity for most of the bacterial strains tested, as well as for yeast Candida albicans, with concentrations between 3.12 and 50 mg/mL. The ethanolic and metanolic extract presented high free radical sequestration potential (>90%). The methanol extract showed an IC50 value statistically equal to that found for the commercial antioxidant BHT (p <0.05). The crude extracts obtained with ethanol and methanol were the most promising. These results suggest that methanolic, ethanolic and aqueous extracts are a promising source of natural bioactive.

ABSTRACT Compared to monoculture, vegetable intercropping allows the optimization of environmental resources and inputs, with positive effects on the yield and profitability of the crop. This study aimed to evaluate the yield of lettuce and arugula in intercropping and intercrop evaluation indexes according to cattle manure doses. The experiment was conducted in Aquidauana, MS, Brazil. Five doses of cattle manure (0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 t ha-1) were evaluated with four replications in a randomized block design. Higher growth and yield of the intercropped species were observed when the intercrop received 60 t ha-1 of cattle manure. However, the maximum values of the variables were not reached, so better performances can be obtained with higher doses. The indexes of actual yield loss and advantage of intercropping presented higher values starting at doses of 26 and 30 t ha-1 of manure, respectively. The highest land use efficiency (1.28) was obtained with 60 t ha-1 of cattle manure, indicating the agronomic viability of the lettuce and arugula intercrop when fertilized only with cattle manure.

RESUMO Comparado à monocultura, o consórcio de hortaliças possibilita otimizar os recursos ambientais e insumos, com reflexos positivos sobre a produtividade e rentabilidade do cultivo. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a produtividade da alface e rúcula em cultivo consorciado e índices de avaliação de consórcios em função de doses de esterco bovino. O experimento foi realizado em Aquidauana, MS, Brasil. Foram avaliados cinco doses de esterco bovino (0, 15, 30, 45 e 60 t ha-1), em delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Maior crescimento e produtividade das espécies consorciadas foram observados quando o consórcio recebeu 60 t ha-1 de esterco bovino. Porém, não foram alcançados os máximos valores das características e, portanto, melhores desempenhos podem ser obtidos com doses mais elevadas. Os índices perda real de produtividade e vantagem do consórcio apresentaram maiores valores a partir das doses de 26 e 30 t ha-1 de esterco, respectivamente. A maior eficiência no uso da terra (1,28) foi obtida com 60 t ha-1 de esterco bovino, indicando a viabilidade agronômica do consórcio de alface e rúcula quando adubado somente com esterco bovino.

ABSTRACT The elephant grass (Cenchrus purpureus (Schumach.) Morrone) is one of the species with great prominence for energy production because of its favorable traits, such as high yield and short cycle, combined with several biomass quality characteristics. Therefore, this study intended to evaluate the morpho-agronomic traits of eight elephant grass genotypes under different cutting ages. A randomized block design with three replicates was applied to the experiment, and plots were composed of a 12 m long line divided into six subplots for each of the bimonthly cuts. Eight genotypes were evaluated in the plots, and the cutting ages (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12-mo) were analyzed in the subplots. The following traits were assessed: DM yield, (DMY) percentage of DM, and average plant height (HEI). All genetic-statistical analyses were conducted using the Genes Program. The evaluated genotypes showed nonsignificant differences, indicating that, for the evaluated traits, these genotypes are genetically similar. Most genotypes presented linear effect of 2nd degree in the two assessment cuts, pointing they did not reach their maximum capacity of DMY in the time interval of the evaluated cuts. The maximum %DM achieved for the most genotypes occurred at about 9-mo age, while genotypes Vruckwona and BAG-86 at about 10-mo age. The maximum points for HEI trait were between 8 and 10-mo age. Increasing the cutting interval leads to increases in DM yield, with the 10-mo cutting age being the most efficient, resulting in higher yields.

Abstract Degradation kinetics is an important tool in order to understand and improve energy conversion and the final application of a material. Cellulose cryogels (CC) are a new class of materials that can be reinforced by several types of particle, including biochar. Apart from it, degradation kinetics and lifetime prediction of biomass cellulose cryogels reinforced by cellulose pyrolysis waste (BC) has been investigated using TG techniques and iso-conversional model free methods. Additionally, the same study was applied to cellulose cryogels reinforced by graphene nanoplatelets (NPG) to compare the behavior of a filler from waste (BC) and a noble filler (NPG). Furthermore, the influence of the addition of the fillers into the cellulose biomass were evaluated in terms of thermal stability and crystallinity. BC and GNP led to higher values of activation energies ( E a) calculated from model-free isoconversional methods and all samples degraded in two-steps. Finally, lifetime prediction was successfully applied and the CC cryogel became more stable over time, maintaining almost 80% of the mass for 1 year exposed at 180 °C. The results of this study shown that only cellulose biomass cryogels are more suitable to produce thermal insulators due to it higher thermal stability.

Abstract The continental margin off the southeastern Brazilian coast is punctuated by a series of geological-geomorphological features, such as subsurface saline diapirs and pockmarks at the seafloor interface, which evidence the abundant presence of oil and gas in the region. In several of these sites, hydrocarbons can be naturally released into the water column, areas are cold seep areas. These are marked by the presence of oil- and gas-dependent ecosystems, where specific organisms are able to fix carbon from hydrocarbon chemosynthesis. In addition, light hydrocarbon fluid flow through the sediment may build up authigenic carbonates that can be further colonized by cold-water corals, generating large carbonate mounds over geological time, normally positioned at the border of these pockmark features. The present work reports on a multidisciplinary oceanographic cruise carried out in the Santos Basin, SW Atlantic, to seek, map, and collect geological, chemical, and biological data from different deep-sea habitats. The cruise occurred in November 2019 on the R/V Alpha Crucis of the Oceanographic Institute of the University of São Paulo (IOUSP). We intended to discover and detail different geomorphological features, characterize free-living and symbiotic microorganisms, determine the chemosynthetic rates in relation to heterotrophic microbial production, and characterize the fauna and study their ecological and evolutionary links within and across ocean basins. All discoveries made during the cruise and their respective results will be presented separately in several papers that comprise this special volume.

Resumo Os produtos do metabolismo secundário das plantas têm despertado grande interesse econômico, dada sua diversidade química e atividades biológicas. Neste sentido, o estudo objetivou avaliar a composição fitoquímica, atividade antimicrobiana, inseticida e antioxidante dos extratos vegetais e óleo de Myrcia oblongata. Foram detectados a presença de saponinas, esteróides, triterpenóides, taninos e flavonóides. Os extratos apresentaram capacidade antimicrobiana sobre os microrganismos testados, exceto o extrato metanólico que não demonstrou atividade para P. mirabilis e S. Enteritidis. Quanto a análise de compostos antioxidantes observou-se que os extratos hexânico, acetato de etila e acetona apresentaram maiores atividades antioxidantes e também maior performance inseticida sobre a larva Alphitobius diaperinus e exibindo mortalidade de 80% na fase adulta. Os resultados aqui reportados mostram que pode haver uma relação entre potencial antioxidante e efeito inseticida do óleo de Myrcia oblongata; os componentes presentes tanto no extrato como o oléo podem ser utilizados como alternativa natural aos compostos sintéticos no controle biológico de parasitas e microrganismos patogênicos.

Abstract The secondary metabolism products of plants have influenced great economic interest, given their chemical diversity and biological activities. Because of this, this study evaluates the phytochemical composition, antimicrobial activity, insecticidal, and antioxidant activity of plant extracts and oil of Myrcia oblongata. Saponins, steroids, triterpenoids, tannins, and flavonoids were detected. The extracts showed antimicrobial capacity on the tested microorganisms, except for the methanolic extract, which showed no activity for P. mirabilis and S. enteritidis. Regarding the analysis of antioxidant compounds, the hexanic, ethyl acetate and acetone extracts showed higher antioxidant activities and also higher insecticidal performance on Alphitobius diaperinus larvae, resulting in 80% adult mortality. The results reported here show that there may be a relationship between antioxidant potential and the insecticidal effect of Myrcia oblongata DC. The components present in both the extract and the oil can be used as natural alternative to synthetic compounds in the biological control of parasites and pathogenic microorganisms.

Resumen Los paragangliomas corresponden a tumores de origen neuroendocrino de las células cromafines en los paraganglios del sistema nervioso simpático o parasimpático, particularmente localizados en la laringe. Son extremadamente raros, representan menos del 0.6% de los tumores de laringe. La mayoría son esporádicos, aunque el 40% puede tener una ocurrencia familiar. Los síntomas dependen del tamaño y generalmente incluyen disfonía, disfagia o sensación de cuerpo extraño. El diagnóstico se establece por laringoscopia y tomografía computarizada, observándose masas de tejidos blandos de contornos bien definidos, sumado a la confirmación histológica por la presencia de células madre en configuración Zell Balen e inmunohistoquímica con cromogranina y proteína S100.

Abstract Paragangliomas correspond to tumors of neuroendocrine origin of chromaffin cells in the paraganglia of the sympathetic or parasympathetic nervous system, particularly those located in the larynx being extremely rare, contributing to < 0.6% of laryngeal tumors. Most are sporadic, although 40% may have a familial occurrence. Symptoms depend on size, generally including dysphonia, dysphagia, or a foreign body sensation. The diagnosis is established by laryngoscopy and CT, observing soft-tissue masses with well-defined contours, coupled with histological confirmation by the presence of stem cells in a "Zell Balen" configuration, and immunohistochemistry with chromogranin and S100 protein.

RESUMO Este trabalho propõem o uso da Matemática Intervalar em conjunto com o Método dos Mínimos Quadrados e a linguagem Python para obter a melhor solução aproximada para sistemas intervalares obtidos de experimentos físicos. Este método de resolução será aplicado para obter a melhor função aproximada que ajusta um conjunto de dados oriundos de um experimento físico, no qual um carro se desloca com aceleração constante sob um trilho de ar inclinado. Ao fazer esse tipo de abordagem usando a Matemática Intervalar, busca-se inferir como as incertezas provenientes do experimento, assim como os erros gerados pelas representações e operações numéricas em computadores, interferem no resultado obtido. Para isso, se fez necessário a utilização da biblioteca Python for Extended Scientific Computing (Python- XSC), a qual é baseada na estrutura da aritmética intervalar e fornece funções para a resolução de sistemas lineares intervalares. A aplicação do estudo feito se mostrou bastante eficiente e de fácil utilização, o que motiva sua utilização.

ABSTRACT In this work, we used the Interval Mathematics, Method of Least Squares and Python language to obtain the best approximate solution for interval systems obtained from physical experiments. This resolution method will be applied to obtain the best approximate function that fits a data set from a physical experiment, in which a car was travels with constant acceleration under an inclined air trail. When doing this type of approach using Interval Mathematics, we seek to infer how the uncertainties arising from the experiment, as well as the errors generated by the representations and operations on computer, interfere with the obtained result. For this, it was necessary to use the Python for Extended Scientific Computing (Python-XSC) library, which is based on the interval arithmetic structure and provides functions for the solving of interval linear systems. The application of the study was very efficient and easy to use, which motivates its use.

RESUMO O cementoblastoma é um tumor odontogênico mesenquimal benigno, de crescimento lento e ilimitado. Devido à sua raridade, relatamos o caso de uma mulher de 24 anos, que apresentou queixas álgicas e aumento de volume na região mandibular esquerda. Os exames de imagem identificaram lesão hiperdensa com halo hipodenso, associada às raízes dos elementos 35, 36 e 37. O exame histopatológico foi importante para o diagnóstico de cementoblastoma. O tratamento proposto consistiu na enucleação da massa tumoral junto à exodontia dos dentes envolvidos e à osteotomia do remanescente ósseo. A paciente encontra-se em acompanhamento há um ano, sem sinais de recidiva.

ABSTRACT Cementoblastoma is a benign, slow-growing, and unlimited mesenchymal dental tumor. Due to its rarity, we aimed to report the case of a 24-year-old female patient who presented pain complaints and increased volume in the left mandibular region. Imaging tests showed a hyperdense lesion with hypodense halo, associated with the roots of elements 35, 36, and 37. Histopathology revealed diagnosis of cementoblastoma. The proposed treatment consisted of the enucleation of the tumor mass together with the exodontia of the teeth involved and osteotomy of the bone remnant. The patient has been under follow-up for one year with no signs of recurrence.

RESUMEN El cementoblastoma es un tumor odontogénico benigno mesenquimático de crecimiento lento e ilimitado. Debido a su raridad, reportamos el caso de una paciente femenina de 24 años, que presentó quejas de dolor y aumento de volumen en región mandibular izquierda. En las pruebas de imagen se identificó una lesión hiperdensa con halo hipodenso, asociada a las raíces de las piezas dentales 35, 36 y 37. El examen histopatológico fue importante para el diagnóstico de cementoblastoma. El tratamiento propuesto consistió en la enucleación de la masa tumoral, la exodoncia de los dientes involucrados y la osteotomía del remanente óseo. La paciente se encuentra en seguimiento hace un año, sin signos de recaída.

Abstract This paper presents an exact solution for the boundary-value problem which describes the linear buckling of axially-compressed cylindrical panels with frames attached to the circular edges. The boundary conditions differ from the classical simply supported ones, often assumed for design purposes, in the sense that the torsion resisted by the frames are also taken into account. The quality of the results reported herein may be valuable benchmark data.

Resumo Este estudo investigou a sensibilidade de modelos acoplados oceano-atmosfera do CMIP3 e do CMIP5 para o período de 1979-1999 em simular a magnitude do gradiente meridional de anomalias de Temperaturas da Superfície do Mar (TSM) no Atlântico Tropical. Nos resultados são apresentadas análises comparativas para este gradiente meridional de anomalias de TSM de dois períodos sazonais (verão e outono austrais). Os resultados mostraram a evolução dos modelos em simular as variações das anomalias de TSM desse gradiente do CMIP3 para o CMIP5. Para o CMIP3 os modelos não tiveram um bom desempenho em ambas as estações. Para o CMIP5 o verão apresentou o maior número de modelos com índice de desempenho de Willmott (igual ou acima de mediano ID ≥ 0,6).

Abstract This study investigated the sensitivity models coupled ocean-atmosphere of CMIP3 and CMIP5 for the period of 1979-1999 to simulate the magnitude of the meridional gradient of sea surface temperature anomalies (SST) in Atlantic Tropical. In the results are presented to comparative analyses for this meridional gradient of SST anomalies of two seasonal seasons (summer and autumn autrais). The results showed the evolution of the models in simulating the variations of SST anomalies of this gradient from CMIP3 to CMIP5. For CMIP3 the models did not good perform in both seasons. For the CMIP5 the summer presented the highest number of models with Willmott performance index (equal to or above the median ID ≥ 0.6).

A new nanocomposite based on ZnCdTe semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) synthesized in situ on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was obtained. The heterostructure was characterized using UV-Vis emission and absorption spectroscopies, which provided evidences of the growth of the nanocrystals onto the rGO matrix. To evaluate the electrochemical performance, carbon paste electrodes modified with the nanocomposite (QD-rGO/CPE) were prepared, showing high sensitivity in the electroanalytical detection of the pesticide carbendazim. Under optimal operational conditions a calibration curve was constructed with a linear behavior in the range of 9.98 × 10-8 to 1.18 × 10-5 mol L-1, with a correlation coefficient of 0.997. The limit of detection (LOD) and the limit of quantification (LOQ) for carbendazim were 9.16 × 10-8 and 2.78 × 10-7 mol L-1, respectively. The electrode is successfully applied for the determination of carbendazim in orange juice samples.

ABSTRACT Adobe is an efficient construction material for several reasons, such as its thermal comfort, sustainability, and lower energy cost, as well as the simplicity of its production and execution. However, challenges such as water absorption, capillarity, and compressive strength should be investigated to improve its physical and mechanical properties. “Synthetic termite saliva” (STS) is an excellent stabilizer with high cohesive and hydrophobic power. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of STS incorporation into adobe, analyzing its physical, mechanical and thermal properties. Five treatments were studied: 0 (control); 0.1; 0.2; 0.4 and 0.8% STS by mass. These adobe samples were evaluated according to bulk density, linear shrinkage, capillarity, water absorption, thermal conductivity and compressive strength, according to Norma Técnica de Edificación (NTE) E0.80 testing using a new methodology. Linear shrinkage decreases from 2.7 to 1.91 cm with 0.4% STS. Capillarity decreases with the increasing amounts of STS. Water absorption decreased from 12.03 to 6.31% using 0.4% STS, and its mass was reduced from 779 to 19 grams. The thermal conductivity showed no differences between concentrations. The compressive strength was reduced but was still acceptable based on NTE E.080. The stabilization of the adobe using STS showed an improvement in its physical properties, mainly due to its hydrophobic power.

ABSTRACT Rhizophora mangle is an abundant plant in mangroves and tannic acid is a polyphenol produced by the secondary metabolism of plants. The aim of the study was to evaluate the embryotoxic and embriostatic effects of the aqueous extract of R. mangle and synthetic tannic acid on eggs and larvae of Aedes aegypti. A. aegypti eggs were exposed in duplicate at concentrations of 250, 500, 750 and 1000 µg/mL of extract and tannic acid for a period of 14 days. Mineral water was used as a negative control. The eggs were observed and counted in a stereomicroscope (1.2x). In all extract concentrations there was stimulation in hatching in relation to the control, but only in concentration of 750 mg/mL it was statistically significant. In tannic acid (250µg/ml) there was significant stimulus in hatching, but in 500, 750 and 1000 µg/mL there was significant inhibition. All concentrations of aqueous extract and tannic acid on larvae showed embryotoxic and embryostatic effects when compared to the control. The aqueous extract of R. mangle showed effect on hatching of A. aegypti eggs and synthetic tannic acid showed embryotoxic and embryostatic effects. On larvae, both the aqueous extract as tannic acid showed embryotoxic and embryostatic effects.
