Resumo O conhecimento da densidade verde é fundamental no processo de comercialização e abastecimento industrial, possibilitando a conversão entre unidades de volume e massa da madeira. Dessa forma, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a influência da idade da madeira, sortimentos e tempo de estocagem sobre a variação da densidade verde de toras de Pinus taeda L. Para isso, foram estudadas toras com diâmetros na ponta fina entre 8-18 cm (S1) e 18-24 cm (S2), com idade de 9 anos. Além desses dois sortimentos (S1 e S2), outros dois também foram analisados para toras com 21 anos de idade, 24-35 cm (S3) e acima de 35 cm (S4). A densidade verde da madeira foi determinada por meio da cubagem rigorosa e pesagem das toras no momento da colheita das árvores e em outras seis ocasiões, aos 7, 14, 21, 28, 60 e 90 dias de estocagem a campo. O efeito dos fatores idade, sortimento e tempo de estocagem foram verificados pelo modelo linear geral (p<0,05). Posteriormente, equações para estimativa da densidade verde foram ajustadas em função da densidade básica e diâmetro médio das toras. Os resultados demonstraram que todos os fatores considerados tiveram efeito significativo sobre a densidade verde da madeira. A madeira mais velha apresentou maiores valores para essa variável e, dentro de cada idade, a densidade verde da madeira aumentou à medida que o diâmetro das toras diminuiu. O tempo de estocagem exerceu influência apenas sobre a densidade verde dos S1 e S2 em ambas idades. As equações ajustadas mostraram resultados satisfatórios para a predição da densidade verde da madeira. Assim, conclui-se que os fatores estudados devem ser considerados em amostragens para a determinação da densidade verde da madeira e que é possível utilizar variáveis de fácil obtenção, como o diâmetro médio das toras, para a estimativa dessa variável com precisão satisfatória.

Abstract Green density knowledge is essential in the commercialization and industry supply, enabling conversion between wood volume and mass units. Thus, study objective was evaluated influence of the wood age, its dimensions and storage time in the Pinus taeda L. green density variation. To this, were studied logs with thin tip diameters between 8-18 cm (S1) and 18-24 cm (S2), aged 9 years. In addition to these, two others assortments were also analyzed for 21 year-old logs, 24-35 cm (S3) and over 35 cm (S4). Wood green density was determined by log diameter measurements and weighing at the harvesting time and on six other occasions, at 7, 14, 21, 28, 60 and 90 storage days in the field. Age, assortment and storage time effect were verified by general linear model (p<0.05). Subsequently, equations to green density estimating were adjusted in function of the wood basic density and log average diameter. Results showed that all factors considered had significant effect in wood green density. Older wood presented higher values for this variable and, within each age, wood green density increased as the log diameters decreased. Storage time had influence only S1 and S2 assortments green density at both ages. Adjusted equations showed satisfactory results to green wood density prediction. Thus, we concluded that factors studied must be considered in sampling process to wood green density determination, being possible use variables easily obteined, such as log average diameters to estimate this variable with satisfactory precision.

Resumo O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do hidrogel no plantio de mudas clonais de Eucalyptus urograndis em vasos, relacionados com diferentes manejos hídricos, buscando fornecer informações sobre a eficiência do uso do hidrogel. O experimento foi conduzido em viveiro florestal, esquema fatorial, em que o fator “A” se referiu à ausência e à presença de hidrogel e o fator “B” ao manejo hídrico (irrigação somente no plantio, 8 dias, 4 dias e diariamente). Foram realizadas avaliações da sintomatologia do estresse hídrico, características morfológicas, teores de clorofila, teor de água no solo, trocas gasosas, incremento em diâmetro e altura e biomassa seca. O hidrogel proporcionou um aumento no teor de água no solo e um atraso nos sintomas de estresse hídrico, aumentando a taxa de sobrevivência. O estresse hídrico foi um fator limitante para a abertura estomática, contribuindo para a queda na assimilação de carbono pela fotossíntese.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the hydrogel on the planting of clonal Eucalyptus urograndis seedlings in pots, related to different water management, to provide information about the hydrogel use efficiency. The experiment was carried out in a forest nursery in a factorial scheme, as factor “A” referred to the absence and presence of hydrogel and factor “B” to water management (0 - irrigation only at planting, 1 - daily, 4 - every 4 days, and 8 - every 8 days). Evaluations of the water stress symptomatology, morphological characteristics, chlorophyll content, soil water content, gas exchange, increase in diameter and height, and dry biomass were performed. The hydrogel provided an increase in water content in the soil and a delay in the symptoms of water stress, increasing the survival rate. Water stress was a limiting factor for stomatal opening, contributing to the decrease in carbon assimilation by photosynthesis.

Resumo: O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a influência do uso do solo na diversidade morfológica de colêmbolos e verificar a relação destes organismos com os atributos físicos, químicos e microbiológicos do solo. Foram coletadas amostras na região Sul de Santa Catarina, envolvendo três municípios: Orleans, Lauro Müller e Siderópolis, nos sistemas de uso do solo (SUS) de floresta nativa (FN), reflorestamento de eucalipto (RE), pastagem perene (PA), integração lavoura-pecuária (ILP) e plantio direto (PD). As coletas de solo para determinação dos atributos edáficos e a instalação de armadilhas de queda, foram realizadas no inverno e verão, nos mesmos pontos. Os colêmbolos coletados foram contados e morfotipados e os dados foram analisados por meio da abundância, diversidade de Shannon-Wiener (H') e Margalef, índice de dominância de Simpson (D), uniformidade de Pielou (J), riqueza de morfotipos e Análise de Componentes Principais (ACP). Os morfotipos de Collembola foram influenciados pelas condições de manejo de cada sistema, sobretudo o impacto dos SUS nesses organismos depende da intensidade das práticas florestais/agrícolas utilizadas, incluindo rotações culturais e preparo do solo.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of soil use on the morphological diversity of springtails and to verify the relationship of these organisms with soil physical, chemical, and microbiological properties. Samples were collected in the Southern region of Santa Catarina, involving three municipalities: Orleans, Lauro Müller, and Siderópolis, in the land use systems (LUS) of native forest (NF), Eucalyptus plantation (EP), pasture (PA), integrated crop-livestock (ICL), and no-tillage (NT). Soil samples to determine edaphic properties and pitfall traps were collected in winter and summer, in the same areas. The collected springtails were counted and morphotyped and the data were analyzed through abundance, Shannon-Wiener diversity (H') and Margalef index, Simpson dominance index (D), Pielou evenness index (J), morphotype richness, and Principal Components Analysis (PCA). Springtails morphotypes were influenced by the management conditions of each system, especially the impact of LUS on these organisms depends on the intensity of the forest/agricultural practices used, including crop rotation and soil preparation.

ABSTRACT The objectives of this study were to evaluate the relationship between the density and the EW (modulus of elasticity) values obtained by two non-destructive methods: the accuracy of an expeditious method using a graduated ruler; and the homogenization of elasticity between the methods for glulam elements. In the analysis, displacements were measured with a graduated ruler and an automatic data acquisition system of 136 glulam pieces with corresponding structural size was used. The methods were evaluated by correlations, and the homogenization of elasticity was evaluated by the Tukey test. We found that density does not influence the EW values obtained by the studied methods, and it is concluded that an expeditious method using a graduated ruler can be used to determine EW by applying a corrected equation.

Esta pesquisa objetivou avaliar a influência da umidade na compactação de um Neossolo Regolítico submetido ao tráfego de máquinas de colheita florestal e desenvolver modelos para estimativa da compactação. O trabalho foi conduzido em áreas de uma empresa florestal localizada no Estado de Santa Catarina. A amostragem foi realizada em diversas condições de umidade do solo, contemplando três classes: Ug1 (Ug < 0,30 kg kg-1); Ug2 (0,30 ≤ Ug < 0,40 kg kg-1) e Ug3 (Ug ≥ 0,40 kg kg-1). Determinou-se a densidade do solo (Ds), a porosidade total (Pt) e de aeração (PA) e a resistência à penetração (RP), nas condições sem tráfego (ST) e após tráfego (AT) de um Feller buncher (CAT 522) e um Skidder (CAT 545) utilizados na colheita da madeira de povoamentos de Pinus taeda. Foram ajustadas equações de regressão múltipla para estimar a RP, por meio de modelos aritméticos e logarítmicos com variáveis puras e mistas. Os resultados indicaram que em condição de umidade superior a 0,40 kg kg-1 (Ug3), o tráfego promoveu aumento da Ds e RP da ordem de 10 e 24% e redução da Pt e da PA, da ordem de 12 e 43%, respectivamente. Em baixa umidade (Ug < 0,30 kg kg-1), o aumento da Ds e RP foi da ordem de 3 e 13%, respectivamente, e redução da PA da ordem de 8% e sem efeito na Pt. O modelo por stepwise logarítmico com variáveis mistas (MSLM) (Ln RP = -1,11 + 0,64Ds-2 + 0,14Ug-1) apresenta os melhores resultados para estimativa da resistência do solo à penetração, mas deve haver cautela no seu emprego, devido à possibilidade de influência de outros fatores na estimativa e determinação da RP.

This research evaluated the influence of water content on soil compaction of an Entisol under traffic of forest harvesting machines and developed models to estimate soil compaction. The study was conducted in areas of a forest company, located in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The sampling was performed under various conditions of soil moisture, contemplating three classes: Ug1 (Ug < 0,30 kg kg-1); Ug2 (0,30 ≤ Ug < 0,40 kg kg-1); Ug3 (Ug ≥ 0,40 kg kg-1). The soil bulk density was determined (Ds), total (Pt) and air-filled porosity (PA) and penetration resistance (RP), under the conditions without traffic (WT) and after traffic (AT) of a Feller-buncher (CAT 522) and a Skidder (CAT 545) employed in wood harvesting of Pinus taeda stands. Multiple regression equations were adjusted to estimate the soil penetration resistance, through arithmetic and logarithmic models with pure and mixed variables. The results indicate that in moisture condition above than 0,40 kg kg-1 (Ug3), the traffic promoted increase in Bd and PR of 10 and 24%, respectively, and decrease in αt and αair, in order of 12 and 43%. In low moisture content (Ug < 0,30 kg kg-1), the increase of Bd and PR was 3 and 13%, respectively, and the decrease of αair of 8% and without effect in αt. The stepwise logarithmic model with mixed variables (SLMM) showed the best results for the estimation of soil penetration resistance, but caution must be raised in their employment due to the possible influence of other factors in the estimation and determination of PR.

Este trabalhou avaliou o efeito da umidade na compactação do solo submetido ao tráfego de máquinas de colheita de madeira em povoamentos de Pinus taeda L.. O estudo foi realizado nas áreas operacionais de uma empresa florestal localizada em Santa Catarina. Os dados foram obtidos em um Cambissolo Húmico em diferentes períodos, visando contemplar variações de umidade do solo. Foram comparadas a situação sem tráfego (ST) e aquela após o tráfego das máquinas (AT), por meio da determinação da densidade do solo (Ds) e da porosidade total (Pt), nas profundidades de 0 a 15, 15 a 30 e 30 a 50 cm, e da resistência do solo à penetração (RP) no intervalo de profundidade entre 0 e 80 cm. Os resultados mostraram que as maiores alterações provocadas pelo tráfego das máquinas nas propriedades físicas avaliadas ocorreram com o aumento da umidade. Foram também detectadas alterações em todo o perfil de solo. Isso demonstrou que a colheita da madeira realizada em solo úmido causa maior compactação. Dentre os modelos comparados para a estimativa da resistência do solo à penetração, o que teve o melhor ajuste foi o Modelo por Stepwise Aritmético com Variáveis Mistas (MSAM), que estimou a RP pela Ds inversa e a Ug de forma pura, explicando 71% da variação dessa propriedade, e deixando em evidência a possível influência de outros fatores na estimativa da compactação do solo.

This study evaluated the moisture effect in soil compaction submitted to wood harvesting machine traffic in Pinus taeda L. stands. The study was conducted in the operational areas of a forestry company located in Santa Catarina. The data were obtained in a Humic Cambisol soil in different periods in order to contemplate variations in soil moisture. It was compared the situation without traffic (WT) and after machine traffic (AT) by determining the bulk density (Ds) and soil total porosity (Pt) at the depths of 0 to 15, 15 to 30 and 30 to 50 cm, and soil penetration resistance (PR) in the depths between 0 to 80 cm. The results showed that the major changes caused by traffic of machines in the physical properties occurred with increasing of moisture content. It was also detected changes in the entire soil profile. This demonstrated that the wood harvesting when performed in soils with high moisture contents will cause greater compaction. Among the models compared to estimate the soil penetration resistance, Stepwise Arithmetic Model with Mixed variables (MSAM), which estimated the RP by inverse Ds and Ug in pure form was the one with the best adjustement, explaining 71% of the variation of this property, and evidencing the possible influence of other factors in the estimation of soil compaction.
