Resumen La radioterapia, hormonoterapia y quimioterapia son pilares importantes en el tratamiento del cáncer de próstata, sin embargo su eficacia se ve limitada por el desarrollo de resistencia. La inflamación crónica tiene un rol importante en el proceso de carcinogénesis, además existe una supresión de la respuesta inmunitaria en cáncer de próstata. Por lo cual, la inmunoterapia representa una herramienta terapéutica prometedora, ya que es capaz de potenciar la respuesta inmunitaria contra tumor. Diferentes ensayos clínicos evalúan la eficacia y utilidad clínica de la inmunoterapia en este cáncer, lo cual será discutido en esta revisión.

Abstract Radiotherapy, androgen deprivation therapy, and chemotherapy are the mainstay of treatment for prostate cancer; however, resistance development significantly limits their efficacy. Chronic inflammation has a major role in the process of carcinogenesis, and there is a suppression of immune response in prostate cancer. Thereby, immunotherapy represents a promising therapeutic tool as it can potentiate the immune response against the tumor. Multiple clinical trials evaluate the efficacy and utility of immunotherapy in this cancer, which will be discussed in this review.

Resumen Se revisa la taxonomía del género de saltamontes de la zona transicional Neártico-Neotropical Romalea (Romaleidae), considerando Taeniopoda como su sinónimo junior (syn. n.). Se reconocen 12 especies de Romalea, cuya distribución va del sur de los EUA hasta Panamá. Se redescriben las siguientes especies: R. auricornis (Walker, 1870), comb. rev., R. citricornis (Bruner, 1907), comb. n., R. centurio (Drury, 1773), comb. rev., R. eques (Burmeister, 1838), comb. rev., R. gutturosa (Bolívar, 1901), comb. n., R. microptera (Palisot de Beauvois, 1817), R. obscura (Bruner, 1907), comb. n. (= Taeniopoda bicristata), R. picticornis (Walker, 1870), comb. rev. (= Taeniopoda stali, syn. n.), R. reticulata (Fabricius, 1781) comb. n., R. tamaulipensis (Rehn, 1904) comb. n., y R. varipennis (Rehn, 1905) comb. n. Se describe una especie nueva de Guatemala, R. guatemalensis sp. nov.

Abstract The taxonomy of the transitional Nearctic-Neotropical lubber grasshopper genus Romalea (Romaleidae) is revised, considering Taeniopoda as its junior synonym (syn. n.). Twelve species of Romalea are recognized, whose distribution extends from southern USA to Panama. The following species are redescribed: R. auricornis (Walker, 1870), comb. rev., R. citricornis (Bruner, 1907), comb. n., R. centurio (Drury, 1773), comb. rev., R. eques (Burmeister, 1838), comb. rev., R. gutturosa (Bolívar, 1901), comb. n., R. microptera (Palisot de Beauvois, 1817), R. obscura (Bruner, 1907), comb. n. (= Taeniopoda bicristata), R. picticornis (Walker, 1870), comb. rev. ABSTRACT The expression ‘you need to know to conserve’ is a well-known cliche among biologists. Documenting the richness of a group of organisms is the first step towards understanding biodiversity and preparing efficient conservation plans. In this context, many efforts have been made to quantify the number of species on Earth and estimate the number of species still unknown to science. A few countries have complete and integrated databases estimating the approximate number of species recorded for their territory, particularly in the Global South. In Brazil, a country of continental dimensions, revealing the richness of the second most diverse clade of invertebrates (=Mollusca) has been a goal of taxonomists. Recently, in an unprecedented, collective, and integrated effort among Brazilian malacologists, it was possible to estimate how many valid species of molluscs are there in Brazil. In this effort, more than 30 mollusc experts joined together to update the Taxonomic Catalogue of the Brazilian Fauna (TCBF), a governmental website that allows a quick and real-time updating of all Metazoan. So far, more than 5,000 updates have been made in TCBF, indicating the presence of 3,552 valid species of molluscs in Brazil, distributed among the main clades as follows: Caudofoveata (10 spp.), Solenogastres (6 spp.), Polyplacophora (35 spp.), Scaphopoda (43 spp.), Cephalopoda (92 spp.), Bivalvia (629 spp.) and Gastropoda (2,737 spp.). The present study, in addition to demonstrating for the first time the richness of Brazilian molluscs, also presents the state of the art of this important phylum of invertebrates highlighting its most representative and neglected groups.

Ursolic acid (UA) is being investigated due to its anti-inflammatory potential, and structural modifications can enhance its biological activities. The aim of this study was to evaluate the immunomodulatory effect of the ursolic acid derivatives (UAD) in macrophages and in the carrageenan-induced paw edema model. RAW264.7 cells were cultured in the presence or absence of UA or UAD (1-18). Nitric oxide (NO), nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), tumor necrosis factor (TNF), and cellular viability were measured. 30 min before the carrageenan-induced paw edema, the UAD1 and UAD2 (200 mg kg-1) were administered intraperitoneally. The results showed that UAD2-4, UAD7, UAD9-11 had half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) greater than 90 µM and were able to reduce NO, NF-κB and TNF production. Moreover, UAD1 and UAD2 reduced paw edema and IL-6 production. In conclusion, the results obtained demonstrated a variation in the response between the derivatives due to the chemical modifications, showing potential to reduce the inflammatory mediators, deserving further investigations.

Connaraceae is a plant family usually used in traditional medicine. Recently, we have reported the chemical composition and biological activity of 39 species around the world. This work highlights the application of these species to diabetes control, which has been reported at least to half of this family. In this line, there are several species of the Connaraceae without scientific evidence of traditional use, among these the four species study here. Thus, this work aims the chemical composition prospection of Connarus blanchetii, Connarus regnellii, Connarus suberosus and Rourea glazioui, as well as the identification of possible bioactivity. The leaves of these four species were collected, prepared and submitted to different extractive methods (aqueous decoction and infusion and ethanolic maceration), these being tested in a preliminary phytochemical investigation and subjected to antioxidant assay with 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and ferric reducing antioxidant power. Then, we selected the maceration extract to continue for fractions, with the ethyl acetate and n-butanol presenting the best results with antioxidant and anti-advanced glycation end products (AGEs) activity potential. Finally, the chemical composition was determinate by high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) in combination with Global Natural Products Service (GNPS) data bank. As a result, this study indicated the presence of 29 phenolics compounds with reported activity as antioxidant and with potential of protein glycation, supported the diabetes activity of this plants. The n-butanolic fraction of R. glazioui showed compounds such as apigenin, kaempferol, quercetin, myricetin and chlorogenic acid, which have generated a half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 36.5 µg mL 1 for oxidative glycation inhibition, being highlighted as the most active.

ABSTRACT Physalis angulata L. (Solanaceae), known as ‘camapu’, has pharmacological and agroindustrial potentials, but information on the ecophysiological aspects that influence germination is scarce. In this context, the objective was to evaluate the expression of the physiological potential of P. angulata seeds as a function of the maturation stage, temperature, substrate and light condition. Four experiments were conducted: in the first, the maturation stages (green calyx + fruit, yellow calyx + fruit and light brown calyx + fruit) were evaluated at temperatures of 25, 30 and 35 °C, separately; in the second, the interaction between the temperatures of 35, 40 and 45 °C and types of substrate (on paper, between paper and between vermiculite) was tested in a 3x3 factorial scheme (temperatures as the first factor and types of substrates as the second factor); in the third experiment, the effect of light (absence of light, white light, red and far-red light) was evaluated; and, in the fourth, increasing values of photoperiods (0, 8, 12 and 16 hours) were used. In all experiments, the design was completely randomized with four replicates of 50 seeds. Analysis of the results showed that there was no interaction between the temperatures and the substrates tested, demonstrating the isolated action of the factors. P. angulata seeds expressed better physiological potential when the calyx and fruit are yellow. In the germination test, the seeds should be sown between paper towels, under temperature of 35 °C and absence of light.

RESUMO Physalis angulata L. (Solanaceae), conhecida por camapu, possui potenciais farmacológico e agroindustrial, porém são escassas as informações sobre os aspectos ecofisiológicos que influenciam a germinação. Neste sentido, objetivou-se avaliar a expressão do potencial fisiológico de sementes de P. angulata em função do estádio de maturação, temperatura, substrato e condição luminosa. Para isso, conduziram-se quatro experimentos: no primeiro, avaliou-se os estádios de maturação (cálice + fruto verdes, cálice + fruto amarelos e cálice + fruto marrom-claros) nas temperaturas de 25; 30 e 35 °C, separadamente; no segundo, testouse a interação entre as temperaturas 35; 40 e 45°C e tipos de substrato (sobre papel, entre papel e entre vermiculita) em esquema fatorial 3x3 (sendo o primeiro fato as temperaturas e o segundo os tipos de substratos); no terceiro experimento, avaliou-se o efeito da luz (ausência de luz, luz branca, luz na frequência do vermelho e do vermelho-distante); e, no quarto, utilizaram-se valores crescentes de fotoperíodos (0; 8; 12 e 16 horas). Em todos os experimentos o delineamento foi o inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições de 50 sementes. Na análise dos resultados foi visto que não houve interação entre as temperaturas e os substratos testados, demonstrando a atuação isolada dos fatores. As sementes de P. angulata expressaram melhor potencial fisiológico quando o cálice e o fruto estão amarelos. No teste de germinação, as sementes devem ser semeadas entre papel toalha, sob a temperatura de 35 °C e ausência de luz.

ABSTRACT Seeds subjected to abiotic stresses may have their physiological performance compromised, impairing the multiplication of species. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the germination and initial development of Tabebuia aurea seedlings subjected to water and salt stresses. Water stress was simulated with two osmotic agents (PEG 6000 and mannitol) at five osmotic potentials (0.0, -0.2, -0.4, -0.6 and -0.8 MPa). For salt stress, three osmotic agents (NaCl, KCl and CaCl2) were used at five concentrations (0, 6, 12, 18 and 24 dS m-1). The experiments were conducted under a completely randomized experimental design, with four replicates of 25 seeds, in a factorial scheme (osmotic agents × potentials), and the data were subjected to analysis of variance and regression. The variables analyzed were germination, first germination count, germination speed index, root and shoot length, and seedling root and shoot dry mass. The results showed that water and salt stresses reduced the germination and vigor of T. aurea seeds, with water stress being more harmful to the species, especially when induced by PEG 6000. Of the salts used, the one that most harmed the species was CaCl2, followed by NaCl and KCl.

RESUMO Sementes submetidas a estresses abióticos podem ter seu desempenho fisiológico comprometido, prejudicando a multiplicação das espécies. Dessa forma, objetivou-se avaliar a germinação e o desenvolvimento inicial de plântulas de Tabebuia aurea submetidas aos estresses hídrico e salino. Para tanto, foi simulado o estresse hídrico com dois agentes osmóticos (PEG 6000 e manitol) em cinco potenciais osmóticos (0,0; -0,2; -0,4; -0,6 e -0,8 MPa). No estresse salino, foram utilizados três agentes osmóticos (NaCl, KCl e CaCl2) em cinco concentrações (0; 6; 12; 18 e 24 dSm-1). Os testes foram executados sob delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições de 25 sementes, em esquema fatorial (agentes osmóticos × potenciais), sendo os dados submetidos a análise de variância e regressão. As variáveis analisadas foram germinação, primeira contagem de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação, comprimento radicular e da parte aérea, massa seca de raiz e da parte aérea das plântulas. Os resultados demonstraram que os estresses hídrico e salino reduziram a germinação e vigor de sementes de T. aurea, sendo o hídrico mais danoso à espécie, principalmente quando induzido por PEG 6000. Dos sais empregados, o que mais prejudicou a espécie foi o CaCl2, seguido pelo NaCl e KCl.

Resumen: La calabacita es una hortaliza de gran relevancia agrícola y social en México, por lo que la implementación de alternativas como el uso de productos de origen biológico, puede contribuir al mejoramiento y al incremento de las ganancias en este cultivo. El objetivo del estudio fue determinar el efecto de la fertilización química y biológica en el crecimiento, rendimiento y rentabilidad del cultivo de la calabacita. El estudio se estableció bajo riego en Tlayacapan, Morelos, México, donde se trasplantó plántulas de calabacita italiana variedad Adelita, los tratamientos consistieron en la aplicación al suelo de extracto de algas marinas [Ascophyllum nodosum (L.) Le Jolis] y Rhizophagus irregularis (Błaszk., Wubet, Renker & Buscot) C. Walker & A. Schüßler (2010) en mezcla con fertilizantes químicos. Se utilizó un diseño de bloques completos al azar con cuatro repeticiones. Para evaluar el crecimiento del cultivo, se registró el área foliar, materia seca por planta, con el cual se determinó la tasa de crecimiento del cultivo, tasa absoluta de crecimiento, rendimiento del cultivo, peso, diámetro y largo del fruto. También se realizó un análisis económico para determinar la rentabilidad de cada tratamiento. En general, se observó que la aplicación de la fertilización química al 100% promovió la mayor área foliar, peso fresco de la planta, materia seca, tasa absoluta de crecimiento, tasa de crecimiento del cultivo, rendimiento y peso de fruto en el cultivo de calabacita, lo que generó una mejor rentabilidad. La fertilización con algas marinas complementó la fertilización química y generó una mejor respuesta en las variables evaluadas en comparación a R. irregularis.

Summary: Zucchini is a vegetable of great agricultural and social relevance in Mexico, hence, the implementation of alternatives such as the use of products of biological origin, can contribute to the improvement and increase of profits in this crop. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of chemical and biological fertilization on the growth, yield, and profitability of the zucchini crop. The study was established under irrigation in Tlayacapan, Morelos, Mexico, where seedlings of Italian zucchini variety Adelita were transplanted. The treatments consisted of the application of seaweed extract [Ascophyllum nodosum (L.) Le Jolis] and Rhizophagus irregularis (Błaszk., Wubet, Renker & Buscot) C. Walker & A. Schüßler (2010) to the soil mixed with chemical fertilizers. A random complete block design with four repetitions was used. To evaluate crop growth and leaf area dry matter per plant was recorded, with which the growth rate of the crop, absolute growth rate, crop yield, weight, diameter, and length of the fruit were determined. In addition, an economic analysis was performed to determine the profitability of each treatment. Overall, it was observed that the application of 100% chemical fertilization promoted the largest leaf area, fresh plant weight, dry matter, absolute growth rate, crop growth rate, yield, and fruit weight in zucchini cultivation, which caused improved profitability. Fertilization with seaweed complemented chemical fertilization and generated a better response in the variables evaluated compared to R. irregularis.

Resumen Salvador Soler, N. y Arriagada Hernández, C. R. (2022). Estudio comparativo de la actividad física, sedentarismo, y autoconcepto físico entre adolescentes chilenos con y sin necesidades educativas especiales. PENSAR EN MOVIMIENTO: Revista de Ciencias del Ejercicio y la Salud, 20(2), 1-18. El objetivo del estudio fue comparar el nivel de actividad física (NAF), sedentarismo y autoconcepto físico en escolares de ambos géneros que presentan y no presentan Necesidades Educativas Especiales Transitorias (NEET) de la región de la Araucanía (Chile). La investigación tiene un enfoque cuantitativo con un diseño no experimental, corte transversal y un alcance descriptivo comparativo. Se evaluaron 43 adolescentes de entre 15-17 años de la región de la Araucanía, con y sin NEET. Se aplicaron el cuestionario internacional de actividad física (IPAQ), el cuestionario de autoconcepto físico (CAF) y el cuestionario de actividad sedentaria del adolescente (ASAQ). Los principales resultados mostraron que, con respecto al NAF, la mayoría de los escolares sin NEET se situaron en el nivel medio; mientras que, aquellos con NEET se situaron en el nivel bajo con diferencias significativas entre ellos. En relación con el sedentarismo, ambos grupos mostraron un comportamiento altamente sedentario sin diferencias significativas y con un de promedio de 3415 minutos. Para el autoconcepto físico, comparativamente no se observaron diferencias significativas. Se concluye que, si bien los adolescentes con NEET mostraron un autoconcepto físico y comportamiento sedentario similar a los adolescentes sin NEET, sus niveles de actividad física fueron significativamente menores, por lo que el rol del profesor de Educación Física puede ser fundamental en la modificación de los hábitos de actividad física y deporte en los adolescentes con NEET, así como en la organización de una mayor oferta de instancias deportivas o físicas inclusivas.

O objetivo do estudo foi comparar o nível de atividade física (NAF), o sedentarismo e o autoconceito físico em estudantes de ambos os sexos que apresentam e não apresentam Necessidades Educacionais Especiais Temporárias (NEET) da região de Araucanía (Chile). A pesquisa tem uma abordagem quantitativa com um método não experimental, coorte transversal e um escopo descritivo comparativo. Foram avaliados 43 adolescentes entre 15 e 17 anos da região de Araucanía, com e sem NEET. Foram aplicados o questionário internacional de atividade física (IPAQ), o questionário de autoconceito físico (QAF) e o questionário de atividade sedentária do adolescente (QASA). Os principais resultados mostraram que, em relação ao NAF, a maioria dos estudantes sem NEET situaram-se no nível médio; por outro lado, aqueles com NEET situaram-se no nível baixo com diferenças significativas entre eles. Em relação ao sedentarismo, ambos os grupos apresentaram comportamento altamente sedentário sem diferenças significativas e com média de 3.415 minutos. Para o autoconceito físico, comparativamente não foram observadas diferenças significativas. Conclui-se que, embora os adolescentes com NEET tenham apresentado um autoconceito físico e comportamento sedentário semelhante aos adolescentes sem NEET, seus níveis de atividade física foram significativamente menores, de modo que o papel do professor de Educação Física pode ser fundamental na modificação dos hábitos de atividade física e esporte em adolescentes com NEET, bem como na organização de uma maior oferta de instâncias esportivas ou físicas inclusivas.

Compared study of physical activity, sedentary lifestyle and physical self-concept among chilean adolescents with and without special educational. PENSAR EN MOVIMIENTO: Revista de Ciencias del Ejercicio y la Salud, 20 (2), 1-18. The objective of the study was to compare the level of physical activity (PAL), sedentary lifestyle and physical self-concept in school students of both genders in the region of Araucanía (Chile) with and without Transitory Special Educational Needs (TSEN). The research has a quantitative approach with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design and a compared descriptive scope. The assessment included 43 adolescents between 15-17 years old in the region of Araucanía, with and without TSEN. The team applied the international physical activity questionnaire (IPAQ), the physical self-concept questionnaire (CAF) and the adolescent sedentary activity questionnaire (ASAQ). The main results showed that, as related to PAL, the majority of students without TSEN were situated in the medium level, while those with TSEN were situated in the lower level with significant differences between them. Concerning the sedentary lifestyle, both groups showed a highly sedentary behavior, without significant differences and with a 3415 minute average. For physical self-concept, no significant differences were observed in the comparison. The conclusion is that, while adolescents with TSEN showed a physical self-concept and sedentary behavior similar to adolescents without TSEN, their levels of physical activity were significantly lower, so that the role of the Physical Education teacher can be key in the modification of habits in physical activity and sports in adolescents with TSEN, as well as in the organization of a higher offer of inclusive sports or physical instances.

Abstract Background The surgery with total mesorectal excision recommended by R. J. Heald in 1982 is the gold standard. Rectal cancer (RC) surgery has a morbidity rate ranging from 6 to 35%, and it can cause functional issues such as sexual, urinary, and bowel dysfunction in the long term. Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT) has been gaining ground in patients with lesions in the middle and lower rectum. The aim of the present study is to present the experience of a reference service in the treatment of RC. Patients and Methods A retrospective study involving 53 patients diagnosed with RC between January 2017 and December 2019 with follow-up until December 2020. We examined tumor location, disease stage, digital rectal exam findings, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), therapeutic modality offered, and follow-up time. Results A total of 32% of the patients were men and 68% were women, with a mean age of 60 years old. Location: upper rectum in 6 cases, middle rectum in 21 cases, and lower rectum in 26 cases with evolution from 9.8 to 13.5 months. The most frequent complaints were hematochezia and constipation. A total of 36 patients underwent neoadjuvant therapy: 11 complete clinical response (CCR) (30.5%), 20 (55.5%) partial clinical response (PCR), and no response in 5 patients (14%). The follow-up ranged from 12 to 48 months, with a mean of 30.5 months. A total of 25% of the patients had RC that went beyond the mesorectal fascia, and 22.64% had metastases in other parts of the body when they were diagnosed. Conclusion Neoadjuvant radio and chemotherapy present themselves as an alternative in the treatment of rectal cancer. In 36 patients, 30.5% had a complete clinical response, 55.5% had a partial clinical response, and 14% had no response. It was worth doing the “Watch and Wait” (W&W) to sample. A definitive colostomy was avoided. However, it is necessary to expand the study to a larger follow-up and more patients. Additionally, it is necessary to implement a multicenter study.

Abstract Technological innovation encourages cooperation between academics to promote the development of competitive regions through applied research from the university to which they belong. We seek to know the level of cooperation between researchers from the Autonomous University of Sinaloa towards innovation, through its Technological Innovation Park, which allows the increase of the region's competitiveness. 44 academics participated in filling out the structured questionnaire and their answers were analyzed with the SPSS statistical software, finding an average of 3,895 points out of 5 in terms of their cooperation needs and that the cooperation to innovate is the most representative of the four types of cooperation. In conclusion, researchers can be encouraged to innovate and produce more by training them, emphasizing the sale and distribution of their products, promoting their profiles among them and improving communication when acquiring tools.

Resumen La innovación tecnológica incentiva la cooperación entre académicos para impulsar el desarrollo de regiones competitivas mediante investigaciones aplicadas de la universidad a la que pertenecen. Se busca conocer el nivel de cooperación entre los investigadores de la Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa hacia la innovación, a través su Parque de Innovación Tecnológica, que permite el aumento de la competitividad de la región. 44 académicos participaron en el llenado del cuestionario estructurado y sus respuestas se analizaron con el software estadístico SPSS, encontrando una media de 3.895 puntos de 5 en cuanto a sus necesidades de cooperación y que la cooperación para innovar es la más representativa de los cuatro tipos de cooperación. En conclusión, se puede incentivar a los investigadores a innovar y producir más capacitándolos, poniendo énfasis en la venta y distribución de sus productos, promocionando sus perfiles entre ellos y mejorando la comunicación al adquirir herramientas.

Abstract Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection continues to be a leading health problem worldwide. Increased life expectancy due to antiretroviral therapy has significantly increased the prevalence of the disease. Human immunodeficiency virus infection is an important cause of acquired heart disease, especially the development of ischemic heart disease (the most common cardiovascular manifestation in developed countries today). We present the case of a 42-year-old patient with HIV infection with no classical cardiovascular risk factors who developed a high-risk acute coronary syndrome. We discuss the etiopathogenesis of HIV-associated ischemic heart disease and its particular diagnostic and therapeutic aspects.

Resumen La infección por VIH continúa representando un problema sanitario de primer orden en el mundo. El aumento de la esperanza de vida gracias a la terapia antirretroviral ha aumentado la prevalencia de la enfermedad de manera importante. La infección por VIH es una causa importante de cardiopatía adquirida, en especial en relación con el desarrollo de cardiopatía isquémica (manifestación cardiovascular más frecuente en los países desarrollados en la actualidad). Se presenta el caso de una paciente de 42 años, con infección por VIH, sin factores de riesgo cardiovascular clásicos, quien presentó un síndrome coronario agudo de alto riesgo. Se discuten la etiopatogenia de la cardiopatía isquémica asociada a la infección por VIH y sus aspectos particulares diagnósticos y terapéuticos.

Abstract Background: We aimed to assess the concordance of recommendation for initiating statin therapy according to the 2019 World Health Organization (WHO) cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk charts and to the presence of carotid plaque (CP) identified with carotid ultrasound in Mexican mestizo rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients, and to determine the proportion of patients reclassified to a high cardiovascular risk after the carotid ultrasound was performed. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study nested of a RA patients’ cohort. A total of 157 Mexican mestizo RA patients were included. The cardiovascular evaluation was performed using the 2019 WHO CVD risk charts (laboratory-based model) for the Central Latin America region. A carotid ultrasound was performed in all patients. The indication to start statin therapy was considered if the patient was classified as high risk, moderate risk if > 40 years with total cholesterol (TC) > 200 mg/dl or LDL-C > 120 mg/dl, and low risk if > 40 years with TC > 300 mg/dl, according to the WHO CVD risk chart or if the patient had carotid plaque (CP). Cohen’s kappa (k) coefficient was used to evaluate the concordance between statin therapy initiation. Results: Initiation of statin therapy was considered in 49 (31.2%) patients according to the 2019 WHO CVD risk charts and 49 (31.2%) patients by the presence of CP. Cardiovascular risk reclassification by the presence of CP was observed in 29 (18.9%) patients. A slight agreement (k = 0.140) was observed when comparing statin therapy recommendations between 2019 WHO CVD risk charts and the presence of CP. Conclusion: The WHO CVD risk charts failed to identify a large proportion of patients with subclinical atherosclerosis detected by the carotid ultrasound and the concordance between both methods was poor. Therefore, carotid ultra-sound should be considered in the cardiovascular evaluation of RA patients.

Abstract Russula comprises more than 3,000 species worldwide and is a characteristic genus of the coniferous forests of the northern hemisphere. The forest plantations with non-native species in the northeastern Argentina, such as pine or eucalyptus, provide the biotic and environmental conditions for the establishment of ectomycorrhizal fungi associated with these forest plantations. Due to the complexity of identifying Russula at specific level, morpho-anatomical, scanning electron microscopy, and phylogenetic (ITS) analysis were used to identify the specimens. As result, three Russula species, R. recondita, R. sardonia, and R. sororia, are described in detail and illustrated, none previously known to Argentina. Also, two of them, R. recondita and R. sororia, represent new records for South America.

Resumen Russula es un género que comprende más de 3.000 especies de distribución mundial, siendo un género característico de los bosques de coníferas del hemisferio norte. Las plantaciones forestales con especies no nativas en el Nordeste argentino, como por ejemplo pino o eucalipto, proporcionan las condiciones bióticas y ambientales para el establecimiento de hongos ectomicorrícicos asociados a dichos cultivos. Debido a la complejidad que presenta la determinación de Russula a nivel específico, se utilizaron métodos morfo-anatómicos, de microscopía electrónica de barrido y análisis filogenéticos (ITS) para la identificación de los especímenes. Como resultado, tres especies de Russula, R. recondita, R. sardonia y R. sororia son descriptas en detalle e ilustradas. Ninguna de estas especies era conocida previamente para Argentina, y dos de ellas, R. recondita y R. sororia, representan nuevas citas para Sudamérica.

Resumen Antecedentes: La presión del conducto biliar común (PCBC) después de exploración quirúrgica no ha sido totalmente detallada. El objetivo fue describir los cambios de la PCBC tras exploración por coledocolitiasis. Material y métodos: Estudio de antes y después, en pacientes con coledocolitiasis, que requirieron colecistectomía con exploración de vías biliares, registrando la PCBC por 6 semanas. Con colangiografía por sonda en T en la semana seis. Análisis con T de Student para muestras pareadas. Resultados: Se incluyeron 13 pacientes (rango 17-69 años; 38,69 ± 17,97). Las presiones medias del CBC fueron: Inicial = 19.5, semana 1 = 16.2, semana 2 = 14.3, semana 3 = 13.0, semana 4 = 12.1, semana 5 = 11.1 y semana 6 = 9.7. Se mostraron diferencias significativas al comparar la semana 2 (p = 0.05), la semana 3 (p = 0.036), la semana 4 (p = 0.023), la semana 5 (p = 0.010) y la semana 6 (p = 0.004) contra el valor inicial. Discusión: La PCBC disminuye entre la segunda y la tercera semana posoperatoria. La coledocomanometría muestra ser útil en escenarios clínicos sin acceso a intervencionismo como en poblaciones remotas o localidades rurales.

Abstract Background: Common bile duct pressure (CBDP) after surgical exploration has not been fully detailed. The objective was to describe the changes of CBDP after open surgical exploration in patients with choledocholithiasis, considering clinical scenarios in remote locations. Material and methods: A before-after study was designed. Patients with choledocholithiasis who required an open cholecystectomy with exploration of bile ducts were included in the study. Open cholecystectomy was performed and perioperative T-tube CBDP was registered immediately after the procedure and weekly thereafter, with a 6 week follow-up. Control T-tube cholangiogram was performed at week 6 to exclude residual stones. Data were analyzed with T test for paired samples. Results: Thirteen patients were included (age range, 17-69 years; 38.69 ± 17.97). Mean CBDP (cm H2O) registered were as follows: Initial = 19.5, week 1 = 16.2, week 2 = 14.3, week 3 = 13.0, week 4 = 12.1, week 5 = 11.1, and week 6 = 9.7. There were significant differences shown when comparing week 2 (p = 0.05), week 3 (p = 0.036), week 4 (p = 0.023), week 5 (p = 0.010), and week 6 (p = 0.004) with the initial value. Conclusions: CBDP decreases between 2nd and 3rd post-operative weeks. The use of choledochomanometry is useful in clinical scenarios with no access to imaging or interventionism facilities as in remote populations or rural locations.
