Abstract Our study sought to evaluate parameters of mycorrhizal growth and colonization of Gallesia integrifolia under different light and water availability conditions. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, with the following treatments: three light levels (0%, 50% and 80% shading), and two water regimes (watering daily and twice a week), in a completely randomized experimental design. The results showed that the plants kept under 50% shading and the ones kept under full light, both watered daily, had the best performance. Mycorrhizal association was observed in all treatments, which favored the establishment of seedlings even in environments with less water availability. G. integrifolia showed acclimation to higher levels of shading and lower availability of water, which may be related to the species plasticity and its wide distribution.

RESUMO Dentre os fatores ambientais, a luz e a disponibilidade hídrica são alguns dos que mais influenciam o crescimento e desenvolvimento das plantas. A capacidade de aclimatação ao sombreamento e tolerância a períodos secos pode ser verificada por meio de características de crescimento. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar o efeito da disponibilidade hídrica e sombreamento sobre o crescimento inicial de Lonchocarpus cultratus, espécie arbórea, conhecido como embira-de-sapo, heliófita e abundante em diversas áreas do Sul e Sudeste do Brasil. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 3x2, no qual as plantas foram mantidas em 0%, 50% e 80% de sombreamento e sob duas condições de disponibilidade hídrica (irrigação diária - ID e duas vezes por semana - NID). Foram avaliados aos 30, 60 e 90 dias após a emergência (DAE), as variáveis altura, comprimento da raiz, biomassa seca das folhas, do caule e da raiz e quantificou-se o teor de clorofila a, b e total, além da colonização micorrízica e nodulação. Observou-se a morte de plantas jovens mantidas a 0% NID, logo no início de seu crescimento. Aos 90 DAE observou-se maior altura das plantas mantidas sob 80% ID, evidenciando estiolamento das plantas devido à redução da intensidade luminosa neste tratamento. Nesse período as plantas a 0% e sob 50% de sombreamento e irrigadas diariamente apresentaram maior porcentagem de micorrização, observando-se também a nodulação em todas as plantas, independentemente do tratamento.

ABSTRACT Light and water availability are among the environmental factors that most influence plant growth and development. The ability to acclimate to shade and tolerate drought can be assessed by growth characteristics. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze the effect of water availability and shading on the initial growth of Lonchocarpus cultratus, a tree species, common name ‘embira-de-sapo’, abundant in several areas of South and Southeastern Brazil. The experiment was arranged in a 3x2 factorial completely randomized design. The plants were kept under 0%, 50%, and 80% shading and two conditions of water availability (daily irrigation - ID and twice a week - NDI). The variables height, root length, dry biomass of leaves, stem, and root were evaluated at 30, 60 and 90 days after emergence (DAE). Total, a, and b chlorophyll, mycorrhizal colonization, and nodulation were determined. Death of young plants maintained at 0% NDI occurred at the beginning of growth. At 90 DAE, plants kept under 80% shading and ID showed the highest height and etiolated plants due to the reduction of light intensity in this treatment. Over the experimental period, 0% and 50% shaded plants irrigated daily had the highest percentage of mycorrhizal colonization, and nodulation was observed in all plants regardless of the treatment.

A espécie Alchornea triplinervia pertence à família Euphorbiaceae, uma das principais famílias da flora brasileira. Visando a contribuir para um melhor entendimento da espécie, foi realizada a contagem do número de cromossomos e a análise da microsporogênese de A. triplinervia. As Inflorescências foram coletadas nos Municípios de Paranavaí e Diamante do Norte, no Estado do Paraná, Brasil, sendo as lâminas preparadas pela técnica de esmagamento e coradas com carmim acético 1%. As análises foram realizadas ao microscópio óptico, revelando um número cromossômico para a espécie igual a 2n=8x=72. Irregularidades no processo de segregação dos cromossomos foram as principais anormalidades meióticas, mostrando comportamento típico de poliploides. Outras irregularidades foram observadas, porém, em baixa frequência, não comprometendo a formação dos grãos de pólen das plantas analisadas.

The Alchornea triplinervia specie belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family, one of the main families of the Brazilian flora. In order to contribute to a better understanding of the specie, a counting of chromosome number and the microsporogenesis analysis of A. triplinervia were done. The inflorescences were collected in the municipalities of Paranavaí and Diamante do Norte, State of Paraná, Brazil, and the slides were prepared by squashing technique and staining with 1% acetic carmine. The analysis were performed using an optical microscope and showed a chromosome number for the specie equal to 2n=8x=72. Irregularities in the chromosome segregation process were the main meiotic abnormalities, presenting typical polyploid behavior. Other irregularities were observed; however, at low frequency without compromising the pollen grain formation of the analyzed plants.

Foi realizado o levantamento das espécies de Eugenia L. da planície alagável do Alto Rio Paraná, Estados de Mato Grosso do Sul e Paraná (22º40' a 22º55'S e 53º10' a 53º40'W). Esta área localiza-se no domínio da Floresta Estacional Semidecidual e apresenta formações ripárias ao longo do rio Paraná, de suas ilhas e de seus tributários. As espécies registradas foram: Eugenia egensis DC., E. florida DC., E. hyemalis Cambess., E. klappenbachiana Mattos & D. Legrand, E. moraviana O. Berg, E. pyriformis Cambess., E. ramboi D. Legrand, E. repanda O. Berg., E. sulcata Spring. ex Mart. e E. uniflora L. Os meses que apresentaram o maior número de espécies em floração e frutificação foram respectivamente, setembro e novembro. Eugenia florida, E. hyemalis e E. repanda apresentam ampla distribuição na área, enquanto que E. ramboi e E. sulcata foram encontradas somente na margem esquerda do rio Paraná. É fornecida uma chave para a identificação das espécies, acompanhada de ilustrações e descrições das mesmas, além de informações sobre o período de floração, frutificação e distribuição na área estudada.

A floristic survey of Eugenia L. species of the Upper Paraná River floodplain in Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná States, Brazil (22º40'-22º55'S; 53º10'-53º40'W) is presented. The study area is covered by Seasonal Semideciduous Forest, with riparian formations along the Paraná River and its islands and tributaries. The following species were identified: E. egensis DC., E. florida DC., E. hyemalis Cambess., E. klappenbachiana Mattos & D. Legrand, E. moraviana O. Berg, E. pyriformis Cambess., E. ramboi D. Legrand, E. repanda O.Berg., E. sulcata Spring. ex Mart., and E. uniflora L. The greatest number of species in flower or fruit was detected in September and November, respectively. Eugenia florida, E. hyemalis and E. repanda are widely distributed in the study area, whereas E. ramboi and E. sulcata were observed only on the left bank of the Paraná River. An identification key, illustrations, descriptions, phenology and distribution of the species are provided.

O presente estudo teve por objetivo o levantamento das espécies de Calycorectes O. Berg, Hexachlamys O. Berg, Myrcianthes O. Berg, Myrciaria O. Berg e Plinia L. para a planície alagável do alto rio Paraná, localizada nos Estados do Mato Grosso do Sul e Paraná (22 º40' a 22 º55'S e 53 º10' a 53 º40'W), Brasil. A área de estudo, sob domínio da Floresta Estacional Semidecidual Submontana, compreende formações ripárias do rio Paraná, de suas ilhas e tributários. As espécies registradas foram Calycorectes psidiiflorus (O. Berg) Sobral, Hexachlamys edulis (O. Berg) Kausel & D. Legrand, Myrcianthes pungens (O. Berg) D. Legrand, Myrciaria delicatula (DC.) O. Berg, M. cuspidata O. Berg, Plinia rivularis (Cambess.) Rotman e P. trunciflora (O. Berg) Kausel. Os meses que reuniram maior número de espécies em floração e frutificação foram, respectivamente, setembro e novembro de 2000 e 2001. Calycorectes psidiiflorus apresentou a mais ampla distribuição e Myrcianthes pungens a mais restrita, com ocorrência exclusiva para a margem esquerda do rio Paraná e seu tributário, o ribeirão São Pedro. Para cada espécie foram apresentadas ilustrações, descrições e chaves de identificação.

The objective of the present study was to survey the species of Calycorectes O. Berg, Hexachlamys O. Berg, Myrcianthes O. Berg, Myrciaria O. Berg and Plinia L. in the Upper Paraná River floodplain, located in Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná states (22 º40' to 22 º55'S and 53 º10' to 53 º40'W), Brazil. The study area, under domain of the Submontane Semidecidual Seasonal Forest, include riparian formations of the Paraná River and its islands and tributaries. The species registered were Calycorectes psidiiflorus (O. Berg) Sobral, Hexachlamys edulis (O. Berg) Kausel & D. Legrand, Myrcianthes pungens (O. Berg) D. Legrand, Myrciaria delicatula (DC.) O. Berg, M. cuspidata O. Berg, Plinia rivularis (Cambess.) Rotman and P. trunciflora (O. Berg) Kausel. The months of major flowering and fructification were, respectively, September and November 2000 and 2001. Calycorectes psidiiflorus has the largest distribution in the study area, and Myrcianthes pungens the more limited, exclusively on the left banks of the Paraná River, and its tributary, the São Pedro Stream. For each species illustrations, descriptions, and identification keys are given.

Utilizando-se de método fitossociológico, foi realizado estudo comparativo entre três remanescentes de floresta riparia da margem direita do alto rio Paraná (22º43'-45'S; 53º15'-18'W). Em cada um deles foi demarcada uma área de 3.150m\ subdividida em 21 parcelas contínuas de 150m², tendo como critério mínimo de amostragem o perímetro à altura do peito igual ou superior a 15cm. Foram levantados, na amostragem total, 58 espécies, 46 gêneros e 30 famílias, sendo duas indeterminadas. As famílias de maior riqueza específica foram Myrtaceae e Lauraceae com cinco espécies cada, Mimosaceae com quatro, Annonaceae e Rubiaceae com três cada uma, enquanto que os gêneros foram, Nectandra com quatro, Eugenia, Inga, Pouteria, Psidium e Sloanea com dois cada um. Os índices de diversidade (H') específicos foram de 2,94, 2,52 e 2,88 para, respectivamente, os remanescentes jusante, intermediário e montante. O índice de similaridade de Sorensen entre os três remanescentes variou de 54% a 65%. Do total de 58 espécies amostradas, somente 16 (26,7%) ocorreram nos três remanescentes. Dentre as 10 espécies de maior valor de importância, apenas Cecropia pachystachya e Inga uruguensis foram comuns aos remanescentes. Os resultados da análise fitossociológica, principalmente, permitiram concluir que o remanescente intermediário encontra-se em fase mais imatura de sucessão. A homogeneidade da topografia e do solo indicam que as diferenças estruturais entre os três remanescentes devem-se a fatores relacionados à antropização.

In this study, the structure of the vegetation and the species diversity of three remnants of riparian forest of the right bank of the upper Paraná river (22º43'-45'S; 53º15'-18'W) were analysed and compared. In each forest remnant, 3,150m² were marked and subdivided into 21 continuous plots of 150m² each. Only trees with a perimeter at breast height > 15cm were measured. Fifity eigth species belonging to 46 genera and 30 families were found. Two taxa at the family level were still unidentified. The families Myrtaceae and Lauraceae had the highest number of species (five each), followed by Mimosaceae (four), Annonaceae and Rubiaceae (three each). The richest genera in terms of number of species were Nectandra, four, and Eugenia, Inga, Pouteria, Psidium and Sloanea, with two each. The specific diversity index for the downstream, the intermediate, and the upstream site were respectively 2.94, 2.52 and 2.88. The Sorensen similarity index was high between sites, ranging from 54% to 65%. Only 16 (26.7%) of the total of the species occurred in the three sites, the remaining species occurring in either one or two sites. Out of the 10 species with the highest importance value, only Cecropiapachystachya and Inga uruguensis were common in the three sites. The phytosociological analysis demonstrated that the intermediate remnant is in a less mature successional stage. The homogeneity of topography and soil indicated that the structural differences between the remnants might be related to anthropic action.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar a estrutura, o padrão de distribuição e a dinâmica de espécies arbóreas de um fragmento remanescente da Floresta Estacional Semidecidual Aluvial na planície de inundação do alto rio Paraná frente às variações espaciais, principalmente em relação ao solo e às características topográficas. A área de estudo compreendeu um transecto desde a margem do rio Paraná até a várzea, passando por uma lagoa. Foram analisadas fitossociologicamente 36 parcelas de 150m² e realizadas subanálises em faixas de 300m². Foram levantadas as características do solo, o perfil topográfico da área e suas relações com a vegetação. Os processos hidrodinâmicos e hidrossedimentológicos mostram ser os fatores de maior importância no estabelecimento e sucessão da vegetação, determinando a seleção de espécies e a formação e evolução do substrato, refletindo assim, na dinâmica, na estrutura e no padrão de distribuição da vegetação a variabilidade espacial local.

The aim of this investigation was to study the structure, distribution patterns, and dynamics of tree species in a remnant of the Semideciduous Seasonal Alluvial Forest in the Upper Paraná River Floodplain, Brazil. Spatial variation of the vegetation was considered mainly in relation to soil and topographic characteristics. The 5,946 m² study area extended along a transect from the bank of the Paraná River across the floodplain, passing through a lake. Phytosociological analysis were performed for 36 plots, each 150 m². Subanalysis were performed for 300 m² zones. Soil characteristics and topographic profile and their relationship to the vegetation were analyzed. Hydrodynamic and sediment processes were the most important factors in vegetation establishment and succession, determining species selection and formation and evolution of the substrate. These processes and their local spatial variability fundamentally affected the dynamics, structure, and patterns of distribution.
