RESUMO Todos os anos, na região do sudeste do estado do Pará, atores engajados na mobilização social em torno da reforma agrária e da defesa da floresta participam de uma romaria em memória de duas lideranças assassinadas em um assentamento agroextrativista. Trata-se de um momento de produção intensa de emoções que compõem junto com outros elementos a mística, termo local que, em sua acepção ampla, significa a motivação de agir para o engajamento militante. Busco descrever os çagenciamentos operados durante o ritual (dispositivo de sensibilização) que permitem a emergência e a circulação de emoções, tais como indignação, revolta, alegria, comunhão, esperança, e sua incidência para renovar o engajamento na comunidade instaurada pela mobilização. O material empírico advém de uma etnografia que realizo desde 2014 sobre o trabalho militante da Comissão Pastoral da Terra na região.

ABSTRACT Every year, in the southeastern region of the state of Pará, actors engaged in social mobilization around land reform and environmental rights, participate in a pilgrimage in memory of two leaders murdered in an agroextractive settlement. It is a moment of intense production of emotions that together with other elements compose the mística, a local term that, in a broad sense, means the motivation for activism. I aim to describe the agencies occurring during the ritual that allow the emergence and circulation of emotions, such as indignation, revolt, joy, communion, hope, and their impact to renew the commitment among members of the community established by the mobilization. The empirical material comes from an ethnography carried out since 2014 on the activist work of the Pastoral Land Commission in the region.

Resumo: Acompanhando o cotidiano de trabalho de agentes da Comissão Pastoral da Terra na Amazônia oriental, procuro descrever suas definições e experiências de mística e espiritualidade. Esses atores inscrevem singularidades importantes no conjunto dos cristianismos, pela forma como o religioso opera nesse mundo. Assim, a mística vivida pelos agentes de pastoral embaralha as fronteiras entre espírito e matéria. Ela está imbricada nas atividades correntes do mundo material, de serviço ao outro, na constituição de públicos e problemas públicos como reforma agrária e violência no campo, o que os leva a participar constantemente da produção do secular.

Abstract: Following pastoral agents in Eastern Amazonia in their daily work, I aim to describe their definitions and experiences about mystique and spirituality. These actors insert important singularities in the set of Christian practices, specially by the way the religious operates in their world. Thus, the mystique lived by the pastoral agents blurs the boundaries between spirit and matter. It is intertwined in the flows of material world, and it participates in publicizing processes such as those about land reform and violence in countryside so that pastoral agents are constantly engaged in the production of the secular.

While cancer immunotherapy has gained much deserved attention in recent years, many areas regarding the optimization of such modalities remain unexplored, including the development of novel approaches and the strategic combination of therapies that target multiple aspects of the cancer-immunity cycle. Our own work involves the use of gene transfer technology to promote cell death and immune stimulation. Such immunogenic cell death, mediated by the combined transfer of the alternate reading frame (p14ARF in humans and p19Arf in mice) and the interferon-β cDNA in our case, was shown to promote an antitumor immune response in mouse models of melanoma and lung carcinoma. With these encouraging results, we are now setting out on the road toward translational and preclinical development of our novel immunotherapeutic approach. Here, we outline the perspectives and challenges that we face, including the use of human tumor and immune cells to verify the response seen in mouse models and the incorporation of clinically relevant models, such as patient-derived xenografts and spontaneous tumors in animals. In addition, we seek to combine our immunotherapeutic approach with other treatments, such as chemotherapy or checkpoint blockade, with the goal of reducing dosage and increasing efficacy. The success of any translational research requires the cooperation of a multidisciplinary team of professionals involved in laboratory and clinical research, a relationship that is fostered at the Cancer Institute of Sao Paulo.
