ABSTRACT Fog is an atmospheric phenomenon that reduces horizontal visibility to 1000 m or less. These phenomena affect different human activities, mainly those associated with air, maritime, and road transport. Rio Grande city, located in southern Brazil, has one of the main Brazilian ports, and fog occurrences at this location cause several inconveniences, such as the interruption of port activities and increases in operating costs. Thus, a better understanding of fog formation and dissipation, and the consequent improvement in its forecasts, can bring significant help to the port activities in that region. Therefore, this work seeks to evaluate the WRF model’s ability to simulate fog events in Rio Grande city. Four study cases of dense fogs were performed for this goal, as well as a sensitivity test to select the best vertical resolution configuration of the model. Meteorological data from the Rio Grande pilotage station and the Brazilian Coastal Monitoring System buoys were analyzed. Satellite images and synoptic charts were also analyzed for the study cases. The numerical simulations were performed using the WRF model with three nested domains, where 1 km was the highest horizontal resolution. The Fog Stability Index (FSI) and two estimates of horizontal visibility were evaluated. Simulations show promising results, highlighting the ability of the model to identify the fog occurrence in the area of interest and represent aspects of its dissipation process. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that the FSI and the evaluated visibility estimates were sensitive to the occurrence of the events.

RESUMEN La niebla es un fenómeno atmosférico que reduce la visibilidad horizontal a 1000 m o menos. Este tipo de fenómenos afecta diferentes actividades, especialmente las asociadas con los transportes aéreo, marítimo y terrestre. La ciudad de Rio Grande, ubicada en el sur de Brasil, posee uno de los principales puertos de Brasil, y la ocurrencia de niebla en este lugar provoca inconvenientes como la interrupción de las actividades portuarias y el aumento de los costos operativos. Así, una mejor comprensión de la formación y disipación de la niebla y la mejora de sus pronósticos pueden ayudar a las actividades portuarias en esta región. Por lo tanto, este trabajo busca evaluar la capacidad del modelo WRF para simular eventos de niebla en Río Grande. Para ello se seleccionaron cuatro estudios de caso de niebla intensa, así como una prueba de sensibilidad para seleccionar la mejor configuración de resolución vertical del modelo. Los datos meteorológicos fueron analizados desde la estación de pilotaje de Río Grande y las boyas del Sistema de Monitoreo Costero Brasileño. También se analizaron imágenes satelitales y gráficos sinópticos. Las simulaciones numéricas se realizaron utilizando el modelo WRF con tres dominios anidados, donde la resolución horizontal más alta fue de 1 km. Se evaluaron el índice de estabilidad de la niebla (FSI, por su sigla en inglés) y otras dos estimaciones de visibilidad horizontal. Las simulaciones arrojaron resultados prometedores, destacando la capacidad del modelo para identificar la ocurrencia de niebla en el área de interés, además de representar aspectos de su proceso de disipación. Además, el FSI y las estimaciones de visibilidad fueran sensibles a los eventos.

ABSTRACT: The present study evaluated the effect of increasing levels of wet brewery residue (WBR) as a source of roughage on nutrient intake, performance and ingestive behaviour in lambs finished in confinement. Thirty-two uncastrated male lambs were used, weaned at 50 days of age. The treatments comprised increasing levels of WBR as roughage in the diet: 31, 44, 57 and 70%, on a dry-matter. The concentrate consisted of disintegrated corn, soybean meal, calcitic limestone and mineral salt. There was a quadratic effect (P ≤ 0.05) from the increasing levels of WBR on the intake of DM, OM, CP and TCH. The intake of EE, NDF and ADF increased linearly (P ≤ 0.01), while TDN intake showed a linear reduction (P < .0001) for increases in the level of WBR. There was a quadratic effect (P ≤ 0.010) on the average daily weight gain (ADG) from the addition of WBR to the diet. The time spent on feeding and rumination (P ≤ 0.05), expressed in minutes, showed a linear increase. Feeding rate for DM showed decreasing linear behaviour (P ≤ 0.006), while NDF rumination rate showed increasing linear behaviour (P ≤ 0.013) due to the increased levels of WBR in the diet. There was a linear increase in the time spent on each feeding activity (P ≤ 0.007) with the increase in WBR in the diet. Maximum weight gain is achieved when 46.9% WBR is used as a source of roughage in the diet, and this level can be recommended for terminating lambs in confinement.

RESUMO: O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o efeito de níveis crescentes de resíduo úmido de cervejaria (RUC) como fonte de volume sobre o consumo de nutrientes, desempenho e comportamento ingestivo de cordeiros terminados em confinamento. Foram utilizados 32 cordeiros machos não castrados, desmamados aos 50 dias de idade. Os tratamentos consistiram em níveis crescentes de RUC como volumoso na dieta: 31, 44, 57 e 70%, na matéria seca. O concentrado consistia em milho desintegrado, farelo de soja, calcário calcítico e sal mineral. Houve efeito quadrático (P ≤ 0,05) dos níveis crescentes de RUC sobre o consumo de MS, MO, PB e CHT. O consumo de EE, FDN e FDA aumentou linearmente (P < .0001), enquanto o consumo de NDT apresentou redução linear (P < .0001) para aumentos no nível de WBR. Houve um efeito quadrático (P ≤ 0,010) no ganho de peso médio diário (GMD) da adição de RUC à dieta. O tempo gasto com alimentação e ruminação (P ≤ 0,05) e para mastigação total (P ≤ 0,003), expresso em minutos, apresentou aumento linear. A taxa de alimentação para MS apresentou comportamento linear decrescente (P ≤ 0,006), enquanto a taxa de ruminação da FDN apresentou comportamento linear crescente (P ≤ 0,013) devido ao aumento dos níveis de RUC na dieta. Houve aumento linear no tempo gasto em cada atividade alimentar (P ≤ 0,007) com o aumento da RUC na dieta. O ganho de peso máximo é alcançado quando 46,9% de RUC é usado como fonte de volumoso na dieta, e este nível pode ser recomendado para cordeiros terminados em confinamento.

Abstract The objective of this study was to develop a viable and low-cost model of voluntary physical exercise that could be applied to studies on metabolism and behavior. 40 male zebrafish (Danio rerio) were studied, divided into two groups: control and voluntary physical exercise. The model consisted of two aquariums connected by a translucent tube and a video camera on the side to measure physical exercise parameters of the animals. The animals showed higher acceleration and maximum speed and had a higher frequency of activity in the light period. In this model of voluntary physical exercise, we observed better performance in locomotor assessment tests, which was not accompanied by increased anxiety or changes in biochemical parameters related to lipid metabolism. Zebrafish responded positively to voluntary physical exercise and this model appears to be a good option for further studies.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the association of psoriasis with cardiovascular risk factors and psychological aspects among participants of the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study from the baseline data of the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health cohort, collected between 2008 and 2010 in six state capitals of Brazil (i.e., Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, São Paulo, and Vitória). Participants were active and retired civil servants from college and research institutions, aged between 35 and 74 years. Exclusion criteria included the intention to quit working at the institution, pregnancy, severe cognitive impairment, and, if retired, residence outside of a study center's corresponding area. Psoriasis case identification was based on a previous medical diagnosis of psoriasis. Cardiovascular risk profile, psychological aspects, and sociodemographic variables were investigated. RESULTS: Data from 15,105 participants were analyzed (mean age of 52.3 years, 51.3% women). The prevalence of psoriasis was 1.6% (n=236). Psoriasis was associated with higher education (OR 1.94 [CI 1.07–3.52]), health insurance plan (OR 1.56 [CI 1.08–2.25]), central obesity (OR 1.63 [CI 1.10–2.40]), smoking status (former OR 1.40 [CI 1.03–1.88]; current OR 1.61 [CI 1.08–2.40]), and very bad self-perception of health (OR 7.22 [CI 2.41–21.64]), remaining significant even after multivariate adjustment. Self-reported Black participants were less likely to have psoriasis (OR 0.45 [CI 0.26–0.75]). CONCLUSION: In a sample of healthy workers, psoriasis was associated with central obesity, smoking, and a very bad self-perception of health, which may contribute to future cardiovascular disease.

Abstract Objective The present theoretical study aimed to describe the functionalist origins of self-awareness construct and its importance in grounding an empirical investigation agenda within psychological scientific literature. Method We first conceptually analyzed William James definitions for self-related processes and then examined its repercussion for empirical self-awareness research in personality and cognitive neuroscience literature. Results Initial challenges of the field to put forward investigations that encompassed both dispositional and situational aspects of self-awareness were found. Moreover, progress observed in different trends of self-awareness investigation, in the last 20 years, were approached in its connection to technological advances evidenced in science. Conclusion The need for more integration between different levels of evidence and research fields are discussed as a mean to build an effective full understanding of self-awareness.

Resumo Objetivo O presente estudo teórico teve como objetivo descrever as origens funcionalistas do construto autoconsciência e sua importância na fundamentação de uma agenda de pesquisas empíricas na literatura de psicologia científica. Método Inicialmente analisamos conceitualmente as definições de William James para processos autorreferentes e depois examinamos suas repercussões para a pesquisa empírica de autoconsciência nas literaturas de personalidade e neurociências cognitivas. Resultados Desafios iniciais do campo para definir investigações que abrangessem tanto aspectos disposicionais como situacionais da autoconsciência foram encontrados. Além disso, progressos observados em diferentes tendências de investigação da autoconsciência, nos últimos 20 anos, foram abordados em sua conexão com os avanços tecnológicos evidenciados nas ciências. Conclusão A necessidade de maior integração entre diferentes níveis de evidência e campos de pesquisa é discutida como uma forma de construir uma efetiva compreensão global da autoconsciência.

Abstract Active layer and permafrost are important indicators of climate changes in periglacial areas of Antarctica, and the soil thermal regime of Maritime Antarctica is sensitive to the current warming trend. This research aimed to characterize the active layer thermal regime of a patterned ground located at an upper marine terrace in Half Moon Island, during 2015-2018. Temperature and moisture sensors were installed at different soil depths, combined with air temperature, collecting hourly data. Statistical analysis was applied to describe the soil thermal regime and estimate active layer thickness. The thermal regime of the studied soil was typical of periglacial environment, with high variability in temperature and water content in the summer, resulting in frequent freeze-thaw cycles. We detected dominant freezing conditions, whereas soil temperatures increased, and the period of high soil moisture content lasted longer over the years. Active layer thickness varied between the years, reaching a maximum depth in 2018. Permafrost degradation affects soil drainage and triggers erosion in the upper marine terrace, where permafrost occurrence is unlikely. Longer monitoring periods are necessary for a detailed understanding on how current climatic and geomorphic conditions affect the unstable permafrost of low-lying areas of Antarctica (marine terraces).

ABSTRACT Larvae of Hydrotaea species are facultative predators of larvae of other fly species on poultry farms, chicken feces, pig, and decaying carcasses. The Neotropical species H. albuquerquei occurs together with M. domestica in these environments and might be useful in the biological control of the latter. To verify the predatory capacity of H. albuquerquei larvae on the larvae of M. domestica, we varied the size of the larvae and the densities of the predators and prey under controlled laboratory conditions. Adults were collected from a poultry farm for the experiment, and the larvae they produced were reared in the laboratory. The second and third instar larvae of H. albuquerquei, when at higher densities, suppressed populations of house fly larvae when the latter were smaller than the former. This means that the functional response increases gradually with an increase in prey population density and predator size. In these conditions, one H. albuquerquei larva consumes up to 29 M. domestica larvae at high prey densities and could reduce 100% of the house fly population under a 50% prey density. This study confirmed a pattern previously observed in other predatory larvae and our results have implications for the biological control and integrated pest management programs of M. domestica in poultry and swine farms.

Abstract Long-term-ecological-research (LTER) faces many challenges, including the difficulty of obtaining long-term funding, changes in research questions and sampling designs, keeping researchers collecting standardized data for many years, impediments to interactions with local people, and the difficulty of integrating the needs of local decision makers with “big science”. These issues result in a lack of universally accepted guidelines as to how research should be done and integrated among LTER sites. Here we discuss how the RAPELD (standardized field infrastructure system), can help deal with these issues as a complementary technique in LTER studies, allowing comparisons across landscapes and ecosystems and reducing sampling costs. RAPELD uses local surveys to understand broad spatial and temporal patterns while enhancing decision-making and training of researchers, local indigenous groups and traditional communities. Sampling of ecological data can be carried out by different researchers through standardized protocols, resulting in spatial data that can be used to answer temporal questions, and allow new questions to be investigated. Results can also be integrated into existing biodiversity networks. Integrated systems are the most efficient way to save resources, maximize results, and accumulate information that can be used in the face of the unknown unknowns upon which our future depends.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of early screening in the selection of sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) families for cold tolerance in a controlled environment. Fourteen sugarcane families were evaluated for leaf damage and chlorophyll content, in a controlled environment and in the field, after cold stress. The variance components and genotypic values of the families were estimated via REML/BLUP, as well as the genetic correlations between variables and environments. The heritabilities in the narrow sense and for family averages showed values above 0.23 and 0.76, respectively, and a genetic coefficient of variation above 13%, which confirmis the existence of variability and enables selection in both environments. The genetic correlations ranged from 0.59 to 0.88 and were significant for all combinations of variables and environments. The average coincidence index for the families between environments was 60% for the selected group and 85% for the unselected group. The early screening in the first stages of selection is efficient in breeding for cold tolerance in sugarcane families.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a eficiência do screening precoce na seleção de famílias de cana-de-açúcar (Saccharum spp.) quanto à tolerância ao frio em ambiente controlado. Avaliaram-se 14 famílias de cana-de-açúcar quanto ao dano foliar e ao teor de clorofila, em ambiente controlado e em campo, após estresse por frio. Estimaram-se os componentes de variância e os valores genotípicos das famílias via REML/BLUP, bem como as correlações genéticas entre variáveis e ambientes. As herdabilidades no sentido restrito e para médias de famílias apresentaram valores superiores a 0,23 e 0,76, respectivamente, com coeficiente de variação genético superior a 13%, o que confirma existência de variabilidade e torna possível a seleção em ambos os ambientes. As correlações genéticas variaram de 0,59 a 0,88 e foram significativas para todas as combinações de variáveis e ambientes. O índice de coincidência médio para as famílias entre ambientes foi de 60% para o grupo selecionado e de 85% para o grupo não selecionado. O “screening” precoce, nas primeiras fases de seleção, é eficiente no melhoramento genético para tolerância ao frio em famílias de cana-de-açúcar.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar uma abordagem introdutória ao tratamento quântico de sistemas de uma partícula carregada imersa em um campo magnético constante. Em primeiro lugar, este trabalho inicia resgatando alguns conceitos básicos de Mecânica Quântica, como equação de Schrödinger e equação de Heisenberg, evolução temporal dos estados, estados e operadores no espaço de posição, etc. Esta revisão serve como uma etapa do trabalho que complementa o seguinte: a construção das ferramentas essenciais para o estudo da interação de uma partícula carregada sub ação de um campo magnético constante. This work aims to make an introduction to the study of a quantum system of a charged particle immersed in a constant magnetic field. First of all, this work starts by recovering some basic concepts of Quantum Mechanics: as Schrödinger equation and Heisenberg equation, time evolution of states, states and operators in position space. This review is a step of the work that complements the next one: the construction of the essential tools for the study of the interaction of a charged particle under the action of a constant magnetic field. Resumen El objetivo de este artículo es analizar las biografías de estudiantes-entrenadores matriculados en la disciplina de Práctica Curricular Supervisada (PCS) en Entrenamiento Deportivo de un curso Educación Física. Para alcanzar este objetivo, nuestra opción metodológica fue realizar entrevistas semiestructuradas a nueve estudiantes-entrenadores de un curso de Educación Física de una institución de enseñanza superior pública, utilizando como base la teoría del aprendizaje permanente de Peter Jarvis (2009b). Los resultados indicaron la necesidad de considerar las diferentes experiencias de vida de los estudiantes-entrenadores durante la PCS. Al comprender la trayectoria personal y deportiva de los estudiantes, la PCS se puede estructurar de manera que respete las expectativas de cada estudiante, fomentando su participación activa durante este importante momento formativo.

Resumo O objetivo deste artigo é analisar as biografias de estudantes-treinadores matriculados na disciplina de Estágio Curricular Supervisionado (ECS) em Treino Desportivo de um curso de Educação Física. Para atingir esse objetivo, optou-se por realizar entrevistas semiestruturadas com nove estudantes-treinadores do curso de Educação Física de uma instituição de ensino superior pública, utilizando como base a teoria de aprendizagem ao longo da vida de Peter Jarvis (2009b). Os resultados indicaram a necessidade de se considerar as distintas experiências de vida dos estudantes-treinadores durante o ECS. Ao se compreender a trajetória pessoal e desportiva dos estudantes, o ECS pode ser estruturado de modo a respeitar as expectativas de cada estudante, estimulando sua participação ativa durante este importante momento formativo.

Abstract The objective of this article is to analyse the biographies of student-trainers enrolled in the Supervised Internship (SI) discipline in Sports Coaches of a course in Physical Education. In order to reach this goal, our methodological option was to conduct semi-structured interviews with nine student-coaches of the Physical Education course at a public higher education institution, based on the theory of lifelong learning by Peter Jarvis (2009b). The results indicated the need to consider the different life experiences of student-coaches during SI. By understanding the students' personal and sporting trajectory, SI can be structured in a way that respects the expectations of each student, stimulating their active participation during this important formative moment.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy is a recent advancement in the field of kidney stone treatment; however, its role has not been completely established. We aimed to compare the outcomes of initial Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy and flexible ureteroscopy. METHODS: A retrospective review of consecutive mini-percutaneous procedures was performed. Inclusion criteria were as follows: all percutaneous nephrolithotomy procedures performed with an access sheath up to 24Fr, kidney stone burdens up to 1550 mm3; and the presence of postoperative computed tomography (for control). The data collected for Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy procedures were paired 1:2 with patients treated with flexible ureteroscopy for stones between 100 and 1550 mm3, and with postoperative computed tomography for control. A 14Fr Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy set was used. The stone-free rate was defined as the absence of fragments on the control computed tomography, whereas success was limited to 2-mm residual fragments. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 19. RESULTS: A total of 63 patients met the inclusion criteria (42 with flexible ureteroscopy and 21 with mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy). Demographic data were comparable. The stone-free rate and success were similar between the groups (76.2 vs. 66.7%, p=0.42 and 90.5 vs. 85.7%, p=0.57). The complication rate was also similar (26.1 vs. 9.6%, p=0.188), but Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy had longer hospitalization and fluoroscopy time (p=0.001 in both). CONCLUSIONS: Our initial study of Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy showed that it is a promising procedure, with outcomes similar to flexible ureteroscopy, but with higher inpatient numbers and fluoroscopy times. A larger study population size and better equipment may improve the outcomes of mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy.

RESUMO O artigo descreve as análises e os resultados de uma revisão sistemática realizada para elaborar uma síntese das principais abordagens já publicadas sobre ontologia da confiança e para identificar as tendências e oportunidades para novas pesquisas sobre o assunto. A metodologia adotada foi a Teoria da Meta Abordagem Analítica Consolidada (TEMAC), com inclusão de análises quantitativas e qualitativas em três etapas: planejamento e elaboração; apresentação e inter-relacionamento dos dados; e detalhamento, integração e validação de evidências. O resultado destaca cinco questões principais. A evolução histórica das investigações em ontologia da confiança coincide com as pesquisas em web semântica e o uso de modelagem ontológica para este domínio tem início em 2003; há predominância de autores da Ciência da Computação; a maioria das ontologias de confiança publicadas adotaram abordagem de modelagem computacional; e, por fim, a existência de um vazio teórico nas pesquisas sobre o tema no âmbito da Ciência da Informação, em especial que considerem a Teoria do Conceito. Foi possível concluir que é oportuno e pertinente realizar novas pesquisas sobre ontologia da confiança.

ABSTRACT The article describes the analyzes and results of a systematic review carried out to elaborate a synthesis of the main approaches already published on trust ontology and to identify trends and opportunities for further research on the subject. The adopted methodology was the Consolidated Analytical Target Theory (TEMAC), with the inclusion of quantitative and qualitative analyzes in three stages: planning and elaboration; presentation and interrelation of data; and details, integration and validation of evidence. The result highlights five main issues. The historical evolution of investigations in ontology of trust coincides with research in the semantic web and the use of ontological modeling for this domain began in 2003; there is a predominance of Computer Science authors; most of the published trust ontologies have adopted a computational modeling approach; and, finally, the existence of a theoretical void in research on the topic within the scope of Information Science, especially considering the Theory of Concept. It was possible to conclude that it is opportune and pertinent to carry out new research on trust ontology.

Resumen Introducción: La epidemia de VIH y Sida representa un gran problema de salud pública actualmente. En Brasil, se estima que solo el 83 % de las personas que viven con el VIH conocen su diagnóstico y solo el 46 % tiene una carga viral indetectable. Esto resalta la necesidad de estudios que comprendan el VIH y el Sida en Brasil, para mejorar las políticas públicas. El objetivo de este estudio es realizar una encuesta de datos sobre el perfil epidemiológico de los pacientes con Sida en el sudeste de Brasil. Métodos: Es un estudio epidemiológico descriptivo y cuantitativo. Los datos se obtuvieron del SINAN. El análisis se restringió al período de enero de 2010 a junio de 2019. Resultados: En el período analizado, el año 2017 presentó la mayor prevalencia de la enfermedad (11,97 %). Existe una tendencia creciente en el número de casos entre 2010 y 2014 y una tendencia decreciente en los últimos años. Rio de Janeiro fue el estado con mayor número de casos nuevos (21,90 %) en la Región Sudeste. Se observó que los grupos con mayor incidencia de casos fueron: hombres (71,1 %), jóvenes y adultos (79,37 %), blancos (46,67 %), escuela secundaria completa (19,71 %) y heterosexuales (46,94 %). Sin embargo, se observó un aumento relativo en la incidencia entre hombres homosexuales y entre pardos. Además, la principal forma de transmisión fue la sexual (78,09 %). Conclusión: Se necesita más investigación sobre el tema, para monitorear la epidemiología del Sida y orientar medidas gubernamentales eficientes.

Resumo Introdução: A epidemia de HIV e Aids representa um dos maiores problemas de saúde pública atualmente. No Brasil, estima-se que apenas 83 % das pessoas vivendo com HIV conhecem seu diagnóstico e somente 46 % possuem carga viral indetectável. Isso evidencia a necessidade de estudos voltados à compreensão do HIV e da Aids no Brasil, para a melhora das políticas públicas. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo é realizar um levantamento de dados sobre o perfil epidemiológico de pacientes portadores de Aids no Sudeste brasileiro. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo epidemiológico descritivo, de caráter quantitativo. Os dados foram obtidos no SINAN. A análise restringiu-se ao período de janeiro de 2010 a junho de 2019. Resultados: No período analisado, o ano de 2017 apresentou a maior prevalência da doença (11,97 %). Além disso, observa-se uma tendência de crescimento no número de casos entre 2010 e 2014 e uma tendência decrescente nos últimos anos. O Rio de Janeiro foi o estado com maior número de novos casos (21,90 %) da Região Sudeste. Observou-se que os grupos com maior incidência de casos foram: sexo masculino (71,1 %), jovens e adultos (79,37 %), cor branca (46,67 %), ensino médio completo (19,71 %) e heterossexuais (46,94 %). Contudo, foi observado um aumento relativo da incidência entre homens homossexuais e entre os pardos. Além disso, a principal forma de transmissão foi via sexual (78,09 %). Conclusão: O estudo concluiu que são necessárias mais pesquisas acerca do tema, para acompanhar a epidemiologia da Aids e orientar medidas governamentais eficientes.

Abstract Introduction: The HIV and Aids epidemic represents one of the biggest public health problems today. In Brazil, it is estimated that only 83 % of people living with HIV know their diagnosis and only 46 % have an undetectable viral load. This highlights the need for studies aimed at understanding HIV and Aids in Brazil, to improve public policies. Thus, this study aims to conduct a survey of data on the epidemiological profile of Aids patients in Southeast Brazil. Methods: It is a descriptive, quantitative epidemiological study. The data was extracted from SINAN. The analysis was restricted to the period from January 2010 to June 2019. Results: In the analyzed period, 2017 had the highest prevalence of the disease (11,97 %). In addition, there was an increase in the number of cases between 2010 and 2014 and a drop over the last few years. Rio de Janeiro was the state with the highest number of new cases (21,90 %) in the Southeast Region. Results: The groups with the highest incidence of cases were: man (71,1 %), young and adults (79,37 %), white (46,67 %), high school graduates (19,71 %) and heterosexuals (46,94 %). However, a relative increase in incidence was observed among homosexual men and among browns. Also, sexual transmission was the most prevalent (78,09 %). Conclusion: The study concluded that more research on the topic is needed, to monitor the epidemiology of Aids and to guide efficient government measures.
