ABSTRACT The complexity of the digital culture crossed by the platformization of education has been the focus of research interest in different parts of the world. In this scenario, teacher education is also urged to go beyond the instrumental use of digital technologies towards critical reflection on their effects on teaching and learning processes in contemporary times. In this context, this study focuses on the understandings of Master's students in Science Education about the experience of producing and sharing digital storytellings in a curricular discipline called “Education and Technologies”. Data were collected through a questionnaire. The results indicate that the work with digital storytellings in teacher education was understood as promoting a contextualised, humanising, and emancipating praxis. They also suggest that experience boosted authorial construction as opposed to impulsive and thoughtless sharing of information. Thus, it overcame the instrumental logic of training focused on the use of 'prefabricated' technological resources by platforms and, often, without pedagogical reflexion.

Resumen La complejidad de la cultura digital atravesada por la plataformización de la educación ha sido foco de interés investigativo en diferentes partes del mundo. En este escenario, también se insta a la formación docente a ir más allá del uso instrumental de las tecnologías digitales hacia la reflexión crítica sobre sus efectos en los procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje en la contemporaneidad. En este contexto, este estudio se centra en los entendimientos de estudiantes de maestría en Educación en Ciencias sobre la experiencia de producir y compartir narrativas digitales en una disciplina curricular llamada “Educación y Tecnologías”. Los datos fueron recolectados a través de un cuestionario. Los resultados indican que el trabajo con narrativas digitales en la formación docente fue entendido como promotor de una praxis contextualizada, humanizadora y emancipadora. También sugieren que la experiencia impulsó la construcción de una postura autoral en lugar del intercambio de información impulsivo e irreflexivo. Superó así la lógica instrumental de la formación centrada en el uso de recursos tecnológicos “prefabricados” por plataformas y, muchas veces, sin reflexión pedagógica.

RESUMO A complexidade da cultura digital atravessada pela plataformização da educação tem sido foco de interesse de pesquisas em diferentes partes do mundo. Nesse cenário, a formação de professores também é instada a ir além do uso instrumental das tecnologias digitais em direção à reflexão crítica acerca de seus efeitos nos processos de ensino e de aprendizagem na contemporaneidade. Nesse contexto, este estudo volta-se às compreensões de estudantes de mestrado em Educação em Ciências acerca da experiência de produzir e compartilhar narrativas digitais em uma disciplina curricular denominada “Educação e Tecnologias”. Os dados foram coletados por meio de questionário. Os resultados indicam que o trabalho com as narrativas digitais na formação de professores foi compreendido como promotor de uma práxis contextualizada, humanizadora e emancipadora. Também sugerem que a experiência impulsionou a construção autoral em contraposição ao compartilhamento impulsivo e irrefletido de informações. Assim, superou a lógica instrumental de formações focadas no uso de recursos tecnológicos “pré-fabricados” por plataformas e, muitas vezes, sem reflexão pedagógica.

ABSTRACT The application of Social Skills Training in the university context can be effective in reducing the stress perceived by students. Therefore, the objective of this article was to describe, in the format of a single case study, the therapeutic process of a Social Skills Training carried out with a Psychology student, also presenting data regarding the effectiveness of the intervention. Pre- and post-test assessments were performed using the following instruments: Social Skills Inventory 2 (IHS2-Del-Prette), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-14), interviews and field diary. It was possible to verify the improvement of social skills such as refusing and making requests, dealing with criticism and exposing displeasure and requesting a change in the other’s behavior, and reduction of stress levels based on qualitative and quantitative data, with maintenance of these results in the follow-up of six weeks. It was concluded that the Social Skills Training carried out enabled the participant to improve her university experience.

RESUMEN La aplicación del entrenamiento de Habilidades Sociales en el contexto universitario puede ser eficaz para la disminución del estrese percibido por los estudiantes. Delante eso, el objetivo del presente artículo fue describir, en el molde de un estudio de caso único, el proceso terapéutico de un entrenamiento de Habilidades Sociales realizado con una estudiante de Psicología, que presentaba, también, datos referentes a la eficacia de la intervención. Las evaluaciones antes y e después de la prueba se hicieron con los siguientes instrumentos: Inventario de Habilidades Sociales 2 (IHS2-Del-Prette), Escala de Estrese Percibido (PSS-14), entrevistas y diario de campo. Fue posible constatar el perfeccionamiento de habilidades sociales como recusar y hacer pedidos, lidiar con críticas y exponer desagrado y solicitar cambio de comportamiento del otro, y reducción de los niveles de estrese con base en datos cualitativos y cuantitativos, con manutención de esos resultados en elfollow-upde seis semanas. Se concluye que el Entrenamiento de Habilidades Sociales realizado posibilitó la mejora de la experiencia en la universidad para la participante.

RESUMO A aplicação do Treinamento de Habilidades Sociais no contexto universitário pode ser eficaz para a redução do estresse percebido pelos estudantes. Assim, o objetivo do presente artigo foi descrever, no formato de um estudo de caso único, o processo terapêutico de um Treinamento de Habilidades Sociais realizado com uma estudante de Psicologia, apresentando dados referentes à eficácia da intervenção. As avaliações pré e pós-teste foram feitas com os seguintes instrumentos: Inventário de Habilidades Sociais 2 (IHS2-Del-Prette), Escala de Estresse Percebido (PSS-14), entrevistas e diário de campo. Contatou-se o aprimoramento de habilidades sociais como recusar e fazer pedidos, lidar com críticas e expor desagrado e solicitar mudança de comportamento do outro, e redução dos níveis de estresse com base em dados qualitativos e quantitativos, com manutenção desses resultados no follow-up de seis semanas. Concluiu-se que o Treinamento de Habilidades Sociais realizado possibilitou a melhora da experiência na universidade para a participante.

Abstract The water table apparatus allows the qualitative visualization of natural ventilation in reduced physical models. The quality of the results depends on several parameters, such as the obstruction rate of the reduced physical model in the test area. However, there is a lack of scientific research that analyzes the influence of this rate on the quality of results. The objective of this article is to qualitatively evaluate the fluid behavior at different values of clogging rate of the reduced physical model of the test area on the water table. The research method was divided into four stages: model selection; construction of reduced physical models; experimental tests on the water table and simulations of Computational Fluid Dynamics. In general, the behavior of the fluid in the experimental and simulation results is similar. However, the models with low and high obstruction rates present difficulties in handling and visualizing the behavior of the fluid. Thus, it is concluded that frontal obstruction rates (in cross section) between 24.14% and 30.49% and in-plan obstruction rates between 4.16% and 3.26% showed better performance. However, it is not possible to determine an exact scale for carrying out tests, as the scale will vary according to the proportions of the model to be studied.

Resumo Amesa d’água possibilita a visualização qualitativa da ventilação natural em modelos físicos reduzidos. A qualidade dos resultados depende de diversos parâmetros, tais como a taxa de obstrução do modelo físico reduzido na área de ensaio. No entanto, faltam pesquisas científicas que analisam a influência dessa taxa na qualidade dos resultados. O objetivo do artigo é avaliar, qualitativamente, o comportamento do fluido para diferentes valores de taxa de obstrução do modelo físico reduzido na área de ensaio da mesa d’água. O método foi dividido em quatro etapas: seleção dos modelos; construção dos modelos físicos reduzidos; ensaios na mesa d’água e simulações Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). De forma geral, o comportamento do fluido nos experimentos e nas simulações são similares. No entanto, os modelos com baixa e alta taxa de obstrução apresentam dificuldade de manipulação e visualização do comportamento do fluido. Nota-se que as taxas de obstrução entre 24,14% e 30,49% (corte) e as taxas entre 4,16% e 3,26% (planta) apresentaram melhor desempenho. Entretanto, não foi possível determinar uma escala exata para os ensaios, pois esta irá variar conforme proporções do modelo a ser estudado.

Abstract Background Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a rare genetic disease that causes progressive muscle weakness and impacts motor function. The type I is the most severe presentation and affects infants before 6 months old. In addition, the instruments available for assessing motor function have limitations when applied to infants with neuromuscular diseases and significant muscle weakness. Objective To translate, cross-culturally adapt, and validate the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Infant Test of Neuromuscular Disorders (CHOP INTEND) to Brazilian Portuguese. Methods The present study comprised the translation, synthesis of translations, backtranslation, consolidation by a committee of experts, and test of the final version of the CHOP INTEND in 13 patients with SMA type I. We also assessed the content validity and reliability of the translated version. Results The scale was translated considering semantic, structural, idiomatic, and cultural aspects. All agreement rates were > 0.8, the overall content validity index of the instrument was 0.98, and inter-rater reliability using the intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.998. Conclusion The Brazilian version of the CHOP INTEND met semantic and technical equivalence criteria with the original version and was valid and reliable for patients with SMA type I.

Resumo Antecedentes A atrofia muscular espinhal (AME) é uma doença genética rara que provoca fraqueza muscular progressiva com impacto sobre a motricidade dos pacientes. A AME tipo I é considerada o tipo mais grave e acomete lactentes antes dos 6 meses de idade. As escalas disponíveis para avaliação das aquisições motoras mostram limitações para uso com crianças pequenas com doenças neuromusculares e fraqueza importante. Objetivo Realizar a tradução, adaptação transcultural e validação para a língua portuguesa do Brasil da Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Infant Test of Neuromuscular Disorders (CHOP INTEND, na sigla em inglês). Métodos O presente estudo seguiu as etapas de tradução, síntese das traduções, retrotradução, consolidação por comitê de especialistas e teste com 13 pacientes com AME tipo 1. Foi avaliada a validade de conteúdo e a confiabilidade do instrumento. Resultados A escala foi traduzida considerando os aspectos semânticos, estruturais, idiomáticos e culturais. Todas as taxas de concordância foram > 0,8. O índice de validade de conteúdo geral do instrumento foi de 0,98. A confiabilidade interavaliadores analisada através do coeficiente de correlação intraclasse (ICC, na sigla em inglês) demonstrou um valor de ICC = 0,998. Conclusão A versão da CHOP INTEND em português atende aos critérios de equivalência semântica e técnica em relação à versão original e apresenta validade de conteúdo e confiabilidade para seu uso na população de pacientes com AME tipo I.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Pulse wave velocity is used to diagnose central arterial stiffness (CAS) and quantify healthy vascular aging (HVA). Objective: To evaluate the CAS and HVA in elderly patients with systemic blood pressure levels classified as optimal/normal. Methods: A total of 102 patients without comorbidities and with systolic pressure (SP) < 120 mmHg and diastolic pressure (DP) < 80 mmHg were selected from the EVOPIU database (Pulse Wave Velocity of Elderly Individuals in an Urban area of Brazil). The carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (c-fPWV) and the central and peripheral pressures were evaluated in all patients. The patients were divided into four groups: G1: (n = 19, with c-fPWV < 7.6 m/s, without medication), G2 (n = 26, c-fPWV ≥ 7.6 m/s; without medication), G3 (n = 25, c-fPWV < 7.6 m/s with antihypertensive medication), and G4 (n = 32, c-fPWV ≥ 7.6 m/s with antihypertensive medication). Results: In our sample, 56.7% of patients had c-fPWV ≥ 7.6 m/s. The central systolic pressure in G1 [99 (10) mmHg] was lower than that found in the other three groups [vs. 112 (14) mmHg, 111 (15), 112 (20) mmHg; P < 0.05)]. Conclusion: Older people with optimal arterial blood pressure do not necessarily have HVA and could have c-fPWV values close to the limits established for CAS diagnosis.

RESUMO Introdução: A velocidade da onda de pulso é usada para diagnosticar a rigidez arterial central (RAC) e quantificar o envelhecimento vascular saudável (EVS). Objetivo: Avaliar a RAC e o EVS em pacientes idosos com níveis pressóricos sistêmicos classificados como ideais/normais. Métodos: Um total de 102 pacientes sem comorbidades e com pressão sistólica (PS) < 120 mmHg e pressão diastólica (PD) < 80 mmHg foram selecionados do banco de dados EVOPIU (Estudo da Velocidade de Onda de Pulso em Idosos em área Urbana no Brasil). Foram avaliadas a velocidade da onda de pulso carotídeo-femoral (VOPcf) e as pressões central e periférica em todos os pacientes. Os pacientes foram divididos em quatro grupos: G1: (n = 19; com VOPcf < 7,6 m/s; sem medicação), G2 (n = 26; VOPcf ≥ 7,6 m/s; sem medicação), G3 (n = 25; VOPcf < 7,6 m/s com medicação anti-hipertensiva), e G4 (n = 32; VOPcf ≥ 7,6 m/s com medicação anti-hipertensiva). ABSTRACT This article presents the main results of a research on contemporary slave labor, financed by the International Labour Organization , with rescued workers in the city Açailândia (MA). Using the focal groups method, the objective was to analyze the experience of workers who underwent the process of slavery that culminated in slave labor, based on their narrative constructions. The narrative of the rescued workers’ experiences provided fundamental information on the distinct dynamics that characterize contemporary slave labor, including their profile and life conditions, the profile and modus operandi of the captors, the profile and modus operandi of the owners of companies that enslave workers, the seasonality and immigration (origin-destination), the process of exploitation and the degradation in working conditions.

RESUMO Este artigo apresenta os principais resultados de uma pesquisa sobre Trabalho Escravo Contemporâneo, financiada pela Organização Internacional do Trabalho e realizada no município de Açailândia (MA), com trabalhadores resgatados. A partir da estratégia metodológica dos grupos focais, o objetivo foi analisar a experiência de trabalhadores que vivenciaram o processo de escravização que culmina no trabalho escravo, a partir de suas construções narrativas. As narrativas das experiências dos trabalhadores resgatados forneceram informações fundamentais sobre as distintas dinâmicas que caracterizam o TEC, como o perfil e as condições de vida dos trabalhadores resgatados; o perfil e o modus operandi dos aliciadores; o perfil e o modus operandi dos proprietários das empresas que escravizam sua mão de obra; a sazonalidade e imigração (origem - destino), o processo de exploração e a degradância nas condições de trabalho.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) encompasses a broad spectrum of hip pathologies, including femoral or acetabular dysplasia, hip instability, or both. According to the medical literature, ultrasonography is the most reliable diagnostic method for DDH. Several techniques for the assessment of hips in newborns and infants, using ultrasonography, have been described. OBJECTIVE: To compare the accuracy of the Graf technique and other diagnostic techniques for DDH. DESIGN AND SETTING: A systematic review of studies that analyzed ultrasound techniques for the diagnosis of DDH within an evidence-based health program of a federal university in São Paulo (SP), Brazil. METHODS: A systematic search of relevant literature was conducted in the PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, and LILACS databases for articles published up to May 5, 2020, relating to studies evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of different ultrasound techniques for diagnosing DDH. The QUADAS 2 tool was used for methodological quality evaluation. RESULTS: All hips were analyzed using the Graf method as a reference standard. The Morin technique had the highest rate of sensitivity, at 81.12–89.47%. The Suzuki and Stress tests showed 100% specificity. The Harcke technique showed a sensibility of 18.21% and specificity of 99.32%. CONCLUSION: All the techniques demonstrated at least one rate (sensibility and specificity) lower than 90.00% when compared to the Graf method. The Morin technique, as evaluated in this systematic review, is recommended after the Graf method because it has the highest sensitivity, especially with the three-pattern classification of 89.47%. Abstract According to the theoretical context of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), this study analyzes the occurrence of the axis "gender equality" in the construction of Digital Storytelling (DS) in an Investigation Group (IG) on a socio-scientific theme, developed with Brazilian students from 13 to 15 years old. The investigation is structured by the paradigm of qualitative research. Data were collected through a field diary, video recordings of the IG meetings and the DS produced. As a result, it was possible to observe that during the development of DS, there were reflections brought by students in relation to gender equality in the world of work and in politics and about possibilities to break with sociocultural patterns aimed at the dominant use of the male gender in language. The strategy of integrating DS to practices with RRI proved to be important for students to assume an investigative posture that allowed for a reflection on the axis of gender equality.

Resumen Considerando el contexto teórico de la Investigación e Innovación Responsable (RRI), este estudio analiza la ocurrencia del eje "igualdad de género" en la construcción de Narrativas Digitales (ND) en un Grupo de Investigación (GI) de temática socio-científica, desarrollado con estudiantes de 13 a 15 años en el contexto de la educación formal en Brasil. La investigación está estructurada por el paradigma de la investigación cualitativa. Los datos fueron recolectados a través de un diario de campo, grabaciones de video de GI y las ND producidas. Como resultado, se pudo observar que, durante el desarrollo de la producción de las ND, hubo reflexiones que trajeron los estudiantes y las estudiantes en relación a la igualdad de género en el mundo laboral y en la política y sobre las posibilidades de romper con patrones socioculturales orientados al uso dominante del género masculino en el lenguaje. La estrategia de integración de los ND a las prácticas con RRI resultó ser importante para que los estudiantes y las estudiantes asumieran una postura investigadora que permitiera reflexionar sobre la igualdad de género.

Resumo Considerando o contexto teórico da Pesquisa e Inovação Responsáveis (Responsible Research and Innovation - RRI), este estudo analisa a ocorrência do eixo “igualdade de gênero” na construção de Narrativas Digitais (ND) em um Grupo de Investigação (GI) sobre uma temática sociocientífica, desenvolvido com estudantes de 13 a 15 anos no contexto da educação formal brasileira. A investigação estrutura-se pelo paradigma da pesquisa qualitativa. Os dados foram coletados por meio de diário de campo, de videogravações dos encontros do GI e das ND produzidas. Como resultados, foi possível observar que durante o desenvolvimento das ND, surgiram reflexões trazidas pelos alunos e alunas participantes em relação à igualdade de gênero no mundo do trabalho e na política e acerca de possibilidades de romper com padrões socioculturais voltados ao uso dominante do gênero masculino na linguagem. A estratégia de integração das ND às práticas com RRI mostrou-se importante para que os(as) participantes assumissem uma postura investigativa que possibilitou a reflexão sobre a igualdade de gênero.

RESUMO Estresses abióticos associados causam efeitos e respostas diferentes da exposição a uma única fonte de estresse. Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do estresse combinado de temperatura supraótima e déficit hídrico no processo germinativo de lotes de sementes de trigo com diferentes níveis de vigor. Sementes de trigo IPR Catuara de quatro lotes foram submetidas a germinação nos potenciais hídricos 0,000, - 0,075, - 0,223 e - 0,444 MPa, associados às temperaturas 20, 24, 28 e 32 ºC, totalizando 16 combinações de estresse. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições, em esquema fatorial: quatro lotes x 16 combinações de estresse, e comparação de médias por Scott-Knott 5%. Avaliaram-se a germinação das plântulas normais aos quatro e oito dias, o conteúdo de proteína total e a atividade da catalase e ascorbato peroxidase (APX) na parte aérea e radicular das plântulas. As análises de componentes principais e de agrupamento hierárquico foram aplicadas à matriz original formada pelas 16 combinações, para a média dos quatro lotes. Sementes de trigo de maior vigor são mais tolerantes a combinação dos estresses hídrico e térmico. Não há prejuízo ao processo germinativo de trigo nas combinações sob temperaturas supraótimas até 28 °C e redução dos potenciais hídricos até -0,223 MPa. Independente da temperatura, o potencial hídrico -0,444 MPa diminui a porcentagem e a velocidade da germinação. A atividade da APX aumenta em condições de estresses hídrico e térmico atuando como defesa ao estresse oxidativo na germinação de trigo.

ABSTRACT Combined abiotic stresses have different effects and responses than exposure to a single source of stress. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the combined stress of supra-optimal temperatures and water deficit on the germination of wheat seeds with different levels of vigor. Wheat seeds from four different lots of the IPR Catuara cultivar were germinated at water potentials of 0.000, -0.075, -0.223, and -0.444 MPa, associated with temperatures of 20 °C, 24 °C, 28 °C, and 32 °C, totaling 16 stress combinations. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial scheme with four replications (four seed lots × 16 stress combinations), and means were compared using Scott-Knott 5%. We evaluated the germination of normal seedlings at 4 and 8 d, the activity of catalase and ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and the protein content of the aerial and root parts of wheat seedlings. Principal components analysis and hierarchical clustering were applied to the original matrix formed by the 16 combinations for the average of the four lots. Wheat seeds with higher vigor were more tolerant to combined water and thermal stress. Temperatures up to 28 °C and reduction of water potentials down to -0.223 MPa did not prejudice the germination process of wheat seeds. Regardless of temperature, a water potential of -0.444 MPa decreased the percentage and rate of germination. APX activity increased under water stress and supra-optimal temperatures, acting as a defense mechanism against oxidative stress.

Abstract Continuous development, improvement and innovation of ballistic material systems with superior energy absorption performance has been the subject of numerous works nowadays. Some research has been carried out with the objective of replacing traditional metallic and ceramic materials and composites with high-performance polymeric composites. Due to their excellent properties, multi-scale polymer composites have been used in the most varied segments of the industry, being recently researched in applications such as ballistic materials. This work promotes the combination of high-strength three-dimensional woven aramid fiber fabrics with vinyl ester resin to produce a panel through the compression molding process. The resin was reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets (0.1, 0.2 and 0.3% wt). The impact, tensile and flexural strength were evaluated, along with dynamic-mechanical analysis by DMA and by Hopkinson split bar test, indicating a trend of better performance for the composite containing 0.1% of graphene nanoplatelets.

A sífilis reemergiu enquanto problema sério de saúde pública no Brasil e no mundo, afetando de maneira desproporcional homens que fazem sexo com homens (HSH), travestis e mulheres transgênero. São relativamente escassos os estudos sobre infecções sexualmente transmissíveis (IST) entre adolescentes pertencentes a essas populações-chave. O estudo transversal multicêntrico brasileiro analisou a prevalência de sífilis na linha de base da coorte PrEP15-19 de HSH, travestis e mulheres transgênero adolescentes, sexualmente ativos, recrutados entre abril de 2019 e dezembro de 2020. As análises foram realizadas com as dimensões de vulnerabilidade a ISTs/HIV, e modelos de regressão logística foram construídos para estimar as razões de chances da associação entre as variáveis preditoras e um teste treponêmico positivo para sífilis na entrada do estudo. Foram analisados 677 participantes. A idade mediana era 18,9 anos (IIQ: 18,1-19,5), 70,5% (477) se autoidentificaram como pretos, 70,5% (474) como homossexuais/gays e 48 (7,1%) como mulheres trans ou travestis. A prevalência de sífilis na linha de base era 21,3%. No modelo final de regressão logística, as seguintes variáveis estiveram associadas com chances maiores de sífilis: autorrelato de episódio de IST nos últimos 12 meses (OR = 5,92; IC95%: 3,74-9,37), profissional do sexo (OR = 3,39; IC95%: 1,32-8,78) e menos de 11 anos de escolaridade (OR = 1,76; IC95%: 1,13-2,74). A prevalência de sífilis entre HSH, travestis e mulheres transgênero adolescentes entre 15 e 19 anos de idade foi alarmante, muito acima da taxa relatada na população geral nesta faixa etária, e esteve associada a fatores de vulnerabilidade. Os achados reforçam a necessidade urgente de fortalecer os programas de saúde pública com a discussão sobre raça, gênero, sexualidade e prevenção.

La sífilis ha resurgido como un problema serio de salud pública en Brasil y en todo el mundo, afectando desproporcionadamente a hombres que tienen sexo con hombres (HSH), travestis y mujeres transgénero (TrTGW). Los estudios de las enfermedades trasmitidas sexualmente (ETS) en adolescentes de estas poblaciones clase son relativamente escasos. Se trata de un estudio transversal brasileño multicéntrico, con análisis de prevalencia de la base de referencia de la cohorte PrEP1519 de hombres activos sexualmente que mantienen sexo con hombres y adolescentes TrTGW, reclutados desde abril de 2019 a diciembre de 2020. Se hicieron análisis, usando las dimensiones de vulnerabilidad a las ETS/VIH, y se realizaron modelos de regresión logística para estimar las odds ratios de la asociación entre las variables predictoras y la prueba treponémica positiva para la sífilis al comenzar el estudio. Se analizaron a 677 participantes. La media de edad fue 18,9 años (IQR: 18,1-19,5), 70,5% (477) se autodeclararon como negros, 70,5% (474) como homosexuales/gays y 48 (7,1%) como mujeres trans o travestis. La base de referencia de prevalencia de sífilis fue 21,3%. En el modelo final de regresión logística, se asociaron con una posibilidad más alta de sífilis: un episodio autoinformado de ETS en los últimos 12 meses (OR = 5,92; IC95%: 3,74-9,37), trabajadores sexuales (OR = 3,39; IC95%: 1,32-8,78) y < 11 años de estudio (OR = 1,76; IC95%: 1,13-2,74). La prevalencia de sífilis entre adolescentes HSH/TrTGW con edades de 15 a 19 años fue alarmante, mucho más que lo descrito para la población general en este rango de edad y asociado con factores de vulnerabilidad. Esto refuerza la urgente necesidad de fortalecer los programas de salud pública, discutiendo cuestiones de raza, género, sexualidad y prevención.

Syphilis has reemerged as a serious public health problem in Brazil and worldwide, disproportionately affecting men who have sex with men (MSM) and travestis and transgender women (TrTGW). Studies on sexually transmitted infections (STI) in adolescents from these key populations are relatively scarce. This is a Brazilian multi-center, cross study with prevalence analysis, using as baseline the PrEP1519 cohort of sexually active MSM and TrTGW adolescents, recruited from April 2019 to December 2020. Analyses were made using the dimensions of vulnerability to STI/HIV and logistic regression models were conducted to estimate the odds ratios of the association between the predictor variables and positive treponemal test for syphilis at the moment of entry in the study. In total, 677 participants were analyzed; participants’ median age was 18.9 years (IQR: 18.1-19.5); 70.5% (477) self-declared as black; 70.5% (474), as homosexuals/gays; and 48 (7.1%), as trans women or travestis. The baseline prevalence of syphilis was 21.3%. In the final logistic regression model, higher chance of syphilis was associated with: self-reported episode of STI in the last 12 months (OR = 5.92; 95%CI: 3.74-9.37), sex worker (OR = 3.39; 95%CI: 1.32-8.78), and < 11 years of schooling (OR = 1.76; 95%CI: 1.13-2.74). The prevalence of syphilis among MSM/TrTGW adolescents aged from 15 to 19 years was alarming, much higher than the described for the general population within this age range and associated with vulnerability factors. This reinforces the urgent need to strengthen public health programs to debate about race, gender, sexuality, and prevention.

ABSTRACT Amniotic fluid DNA samples were genotyped by multilocus-nested-PCR-RFLP, but only three of 11 markers amplified 113 of 122 (92.6%) samples, resulting in 12 untyped and 101 partial non-archetypal genotypes. The 101 typed samples were subdivided into four groups: G1 with 73 samples (5’and 3’ SAG2 allele I + SAG3 allele III + GRA6 allele III), 53 had parasite load ≤ 102 parasites/mL (43 asymptomatic, 10 mild infections), 17 had load > 102 and ≤ 103 (one mild, 13 moderate and three severe), and three had load > 103 parasites/mL (three severe); G2 with 22 samples (5’and 3’ SAG2 allele I + SAG3 allele III), all parasite load levels ≤ 102 parasites/mL (18 asymptomatic and four mild); G3 with five samples (5’ and 3’ SAG2 allele I + SAG3 allele II), parasite load ≤ 102 parasites/mL (three asymptomatic and two mild); G4 with one sample (5’ and 3’ SAG2 allele II + SAG3 allele II + GRA6 allele I), a parasite load < 102 parasites/mL in an asymptomatic infant. After DNA sequencing, restriction sites confirmed SAG2, SAG3 and GRA6 alleles in 98.7%, 100% and 100% of the cases, respectively, while single nucleotide polymorphisms confirmed 90% of 5’-SAG2 allele I; 98.7% of 3’-SAG2 allele I; 98% of SAG-3 allele III, but only 40% of GRA6 allele III results. For the moment, partial non-archetypal genotypes of parasites did not show any relationship with either parasite load in amniotic fluid samples or clinical outcome of infants at the age of 12 months.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of dentin moisture (moist and dry) on the bonding of fiber posts to root dentin with different adhesive strategies (etch-and-rinse, self-etch, and self-adhesive). Seventy-two extracted single-rooted human teeth were endodontically treated and divided into six groups (n = 12) according to the moisture of dentin surface and adhesive systems as follows: a) etch-and-rinse/moist, b) etch-and-rinse/dry, c) self-etch/moist, d) self-etch/dry, e) self-adhesive/moist, and 6) self-adhesive/dry. The specimens were sectioned into six slices for push-out bond strength (BS), nanoleakage (NL) by SEM, and Vickers microhardness (VHN) of the resin cement. A universal testing machine (AG-I, Shimadzu Autograph) was used at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min until post extrusion, with a load cell of 50 kg for evaluation of the push-out strength. Data on BS, NL, and VHN were evaluated by two-way ANOVA and Tukey’s test (α = 0.05). Dentin moisture as the main factor was not significantly different for the push-out test. However, higher BS values can be observed for the etch-and-rinse group. A lower percentage of NL was found in the dry dentin groups. The moisture pattern was not significant in the hardness values for the pre-etching groups. Additional moisture did not increase the evaluated properties.

Abstract This study aimed to verify the impact of high-fat diet consumption for a prolonged period on oxidative stress, fetal growth, umbilical vascular system, and placental structures in pregnant goats. Twenty-two pregnant goats were grouped into the control diet (n= 11) and fat diet (n = 11). Flaxseed meal was added to the fat diet, replacing the corn grain of concentrate, from gestational day 100 to delivery date. Diets were isonitrogenous and isoenergetic, differing in fat content (2.8% vs. 6.3% dry matter). The fat group showed higher feed intake and total plasma lipid levels than the control group (P < 0.001). No difference was found in placentome, and umbilical vascular development. Fat diet-fed goats exhibited a lower systolic peak in the umbilical artery. At delivery, placental traits were similar with the exception of the cotyledon width (P = 0.0075), which was smaller in the fat group and cotyledon surface (P = 0.0047) for multiple pregnancy of fat diet. Cotyledonary epithelium showed more intense staining of lipid droplets and a greater area for lipofuscin staining in the fat group compared to control group (P < 0.001). The mean live weight of the kids was lower in the fat group in the first week after delivery than in control group. Thus, in goats, the continuous administration of a high-fat diet during pregnancy does not appear to modify the fetal-maternal vascular structures but has an impact on a part of the placental structure; therefore, its use must be carefully evaluated.
