RESUMO O cenário tecnológico no campo da saúde é um fato alarmante, mormente no contexto provocado pela Covid-19. Nessa conjuntura, a Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, por meio da Unidade de Bio-Manguinhos, e o Butantan foram protagonistas para o acesso universal, dialogando com estratégicas internacionais. No adensamento da discussão estratégica para Instituições Públicas de Produção e Inovação em Saúde (Ippis), o uso de diretrizes da Avaliação de Tecnologias em Saúde destaca-se como via de mudança paradigmática para a introdução de tecnologias no Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) alinhada à visão de inovação de futuro em saúde consonante às demandas nacionais. Este artigo, desenvolvido metodologicamente mediante pesquisas descritiva qualitativa, bibliográfica, documental e trabalho de campo, buscou traçar simetrias e assimetrias baseado nas experiências coletadas em empresa farmacêutica global e instituição de referência nacional pública do campo de incorporação tecnológica em saúde. Como resultados, são explicitados pontos-chave para o fortalecimento técnico e político do Complexo Econômico-Industrial da Saúde, por meio da revisão organizacional das Ippis quanto a aspectos de inovação e de gestão, culminado na promoção de melhorias na Política de ciência, tecnologia e inovação em resposta ao desafio da sustentabilidade, efetividade e acesso no SUS.

ABSTRACT The technological scenario in the field of health is an alarming fact, especially in the context caused by COVID-19. In this context, the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, through the Bio-Manguinhos Unit, and the Butantan Institute were protagonists for universal access, dialoguing with international strategies. In the strategic discussion for Public Institutions of Production and Innovation in Health (IPPIS), the use of guidelines of the Technological Assessment in Health stands out as a way of paradigmatic change for the introduction of technologies in the Unified Health System (SUS) in line with the vision of future innovation in health in accordance with national demands. This article, methodologically developed through qualitative descriptive research, bibliographical, documentary and field work, sought to trace symmetries and asymmetries based on the experiences collected in a global pharmaceutical company and a public national reference institution in the field of technological incorporation in health. As a result, key points are explained for the technical and political strengthening of the Health Economic-Industrial Complex, through the organizational review of the IPPIS regarding innovation and management aspects, culminating in the promotion of improvements in the science, technology and innovation policy in response to the challenge of sustainability, effectiveness and access in the SUS.

Pectis brevipedunculata is native species and widely available in dry and semi-arid ecosystems showing high biotechnological potential. The objective of this study was to evaluate the circadian and seasonal chemical variation of the essential oil (EO) of P. brevipedunculata, as well as its acaricide effect on Rhipicephalus microplus larvae. Aerial parts were collected and submitted to the hydrodistillation process, and the chemical composition was determined by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). For the assays with R. microplus, the larval immersion test was performed. The main constituents were citral (75% of the EO), followed by α-pinene and limonene. In the seasonality analysis, the highest yields were in the months of April (2.08%) and August (2.05%), while in the study of circadian rhythm, the percentage was 2.0% at 6 p.m. in the rainy season, and 1.2%, dry season at 6 p.m. Concerning acaricidal activity (50% lethal concentration (LC50)), the April (1.17 mg mL-1), March (1.28 mg mL-1), June (1.37 mg mL-1), and October (1.27 mg mL-1) oils obtained were the most active and assays performed with circadian rhythm revealed in the rain season (April) at 6 p.m. and dry season (September) at 12 a.m. LC50 values of 1.75 and 1.75 mg mL-1, respectively. Additionally, this EO is selective to non-target organisms, i.e., ladybeetles and lacewing.

BACKGROUND The prevalence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants of concern (VOCs) has changed unevenly over time around the world. Although whole genome sequencing is the gold standard for virus characterisation, the discovery of alpha VOC causing spike gene target failure (SGTF) result, when tested using an reverse transcription real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) assay, has provided a simple tool for tracking the frequencies of variants. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to investigate if a multiplex RT-qPCR assay (BioM 4Plex VOC) could be used to detect SARS-CoV-2 and to perform a VOC screening test in a single reaction tube. Here, we present the multicentre study evaluating this assay. METHODS Twelve laboratories have participated in the multicentre study. The BioM 4Plex VOC was distributed to them with detailed instructions of how to perform the test. They were asked to test the BioM 4Plex VOC in parallel with their routine Commercial SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic assay. Additionally, they were requested to select SARS-CoV-2-positive samples with genome sequenced and lineage definition according to PANGO lineage classification. FINDINGS The BioM 4Plex VOC and commercial RT-PCR assay are equally effective in detecting SARS-CoV-2. Results revealed a specificity of 96.5-100% [95% confidence interval (CI)], a sensitivity of 99.8-100% (95% CI), and an accuracy of 99.8-100% (95% CI). A 99% concordance rate was found between results from the BioM 4Plex VOC and that from available genome sequencing data. MAIN CONCLUSIONS The BioM 4Plex VOC provides an effective solution to detect SARS-CoV-2 infections and screening for VOCs in a single reaction. It is a straightforward method to help us monitor the frequency and distribution of VOCs and develop strategies to better cope with the pandemics.

BACKGROUND Chikungunya is a mosquito-borne virus that has been causing large outbreaks in the Americas since 2014. In Brazil, Asian-Caribbean (AC) and East-Central-South-African (ECSA) genotypes have been detected and lead to large outbreaks in several Brazilian states. In Rio Grande do Sul (RS), the southernmost state of Brazil, the first cases were reported in 2016. OBJECTIVES AND METHODS We employed genome sequencing and epidemiological investigation to characterise the Chikungunya fever (CHIKF) burden in RS between 2017-2021. FINDINGS We detected an increasing CHIKF burden linked to travel associated introductions and communitary transmission of distinct lineages of the ECSA genotype during this period. MAIN CONCLUSIONS Until 2020, CHIKV introductions were most travel associated and transmission was limited. Then, in 2021, the largest outbreak occurred in the state associated with the introduction of a new ECSA lineage. CHIKV outbreaks are likely to occur in the near future due to abundant competent vectors and a susceptible population, exposing more than 11 million inhabitants to an increasing infection risk.

Abstract Cannabidiol (CBD) is a bioactive compound with promising anti-inflammatory results but has low aqueous solubility. Complexation of drugs with this characteristic in carriers is an alternative to improve their efficiency. This study aimed to prepare and characterize CBD complexes in different carriers, and to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of such preparations using an experimental model of edema induction in rat paws. The results were compared to a reference drug, ibuprofen (IBU). The carriers evaluated were beta cyclodextrin (bCD) and activated charcoal (AC). Quantification of the drugs in the complexes was determined, and different qualitative analyses were also performed. Oral treatments in single doses with CBD showed inhibitory effects similar to that of IBU, potentiating its bioactivity without significant adverse effects. CBD*bCD doses at 4.375, 8.75, 17.5, and 35 mg/kg significantly reduced the intensity of edema compared to equivalent doses of pure bioactive. In contrast, CBD*AC did not generate benefits. There was no significant inhibitory effect on myeloperoxidase activity, requiring more specific analyses to assess this parameter. The results suggest that the CBD*bCD complexation is perfectly feasible, increasing its anti-edematogenic efficacy in the experimental model used.

ABSTRACT Objective: To describe the sociodemographic and gestational profile of HIV-positive women in Curitiba-PR, years 2018-2020. Method: Observational, cross-sectional research, with data obtained from the Information System of Diseases of Notification of Pregnant Women. Data were analyzed for consistency exploration, description and analysis. Results: The sample consisted mostly of women aged 13-30 years, white and with incomplete elementary school. Prenatal care was performed by 93.8% of pregnant women, 66.1% of whom knew their serological status before prenatal care and 45% received notification in the first gestational trimester. Access to antiretroviral medication occurred for 82.4% of pregnant women and for 74.6% the pregnancy outcome was alive newborns. The statistical variables associated with prenatal care were pregnancy evolution, ART prophylaxis, type of delivery and ART at delivery (p<0.00). Conclusion: The pregnant women in the sample presented desired gestational indicators. The collected data allowed describing the sample's profile and evaluating the performance of the health policy for pregnant women.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Describir el perfil sociodemográfico y gestacional de mujeres VIH positivas en Curitiba-PR, años 2018-2020. Método: Investigación observacional, de corte transversal, condatos obtenidos del Sistema de Información de Enfermedades de Notificación de la mujer embarazada. Los datos fueron analizados para exploración, descripción y análisis de consistencia. Resultados: La muestra estuvo compuesta en su mayoría por mujeres de 13 a 30 años, blancas y con instrucción básica incompleta. El control prenatal fue realizado por el 93,8% de las gestantes, siendo que el 66,1% conocía su estado serológico antes Del control prenatal y el 45% recibió notificación en el 1er trimestre. El acceso a la medicación antirretroviral ocurrió para el 82,4% de las mujeres embarazadas y para el 74,6% el resultado del embarazo fue nacido vivo. Las variables asociadas estadísticamente al control prenatal fueron evolución del embarazo, profilaxis antirretroviral, tipo de parto y antirretroviral al parto (p<0,001). Conclusión: Las gestantes de la muestra presentaron indicadores gestacionales deseados. Los datos recolectados permitieron describir el perfil de la muestra y evaluar El desempeño de la política de salud de las mujeres embarazadas.

Método: Pesquisa observacional, transversal, com dados do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de notificação das gestantes. Os dados foram analisados para exploração de consistência, descrição e análise. Resultados: Amostra perfilou-se majoritariamente por mulheres brancas na faixa etária de 13-30 anos. Pré-natal foi realizado por 93,8% das gestantes, sendo que 66,1% sabiam sua condição sorológica antes do pré-natal e 45% receberam a notificação no 1º trimestre. O acesso à medicação antirretroviral ocorreu para 82,4% das gestantes e para 74,6% o desfecho da gestação foi bebê nascido vivo. As variáveis estatisticamente associadas ao pré-natal foram evolução da gravidez, profilaxia com antirretroviral, tipo de parto e antirretroviral no parto (p<0,001). Conclusão: As gestantes da amostra apresentaram indicadores gestacionais desejados. Os dados coletados permitiram descrever o perfil da amostra e avaliar o desempenho da política de saúde para gestantes.

Scientific diving in Brazil: history, present and perspectives

Abstract Scientific diving (SD) is defined as any diving activity that applies scientific procedures to produce subsidies for studies and technical works in underwater environments. The first report of an underwater scientific study in Brazil dates to the 19th century, in the Abrolhos reefs. Currently, in Brazil, scientific diving has been performed in various areas, from shallow coastal regions to remote and sometimes hard-to-reach places, such as oceanic islands, flooded caves, and icy areas like Antarctica. However, the regulation of SD in Brazil still lacks more concrete actions towards an effective and efficient self-regulation that offers physical safety to practitioners and institutional safeguards for organizations that use it in their research projects. Thus, this article aims to contribute to a better understanding of this critical issue in Brazil and to serve as a reference and incentive for the training of professionals and the development of these activities in the country. It includes: 1) a historical review of SD; 2) a diagnosis of the training and application of SD in Brazil; 3) the evolution of marine sciences in Brazil from the perspective of SD; 4) a review of the use of environmental assessment and underwater conservation techniques in oceans and internal waters; 5) an analysis of the evolution of scientific diver training in Brazil, including a diagnosis on training; 6) the history and updates of the rules, regulations, and safety of SD. Given all the potential of diving combined with specific techniques for research, monitoring, and marine and limnic science in Brazil, we aim to understand the evolution of scientific diving teaching and to outline perspectives in the country, as it is crucial for the training of qualified scientists capable of performing these underwater tasks. Finally, we present future plans for the development of this activity in Brazil from the point of view of research and the labor market.

Abstract Objective To systematically map implementation research focusing on interventions aimed at early childhood development, its main characteristics and implementation strategies. Methods A scoping review of the global literature was planned and performed in accordance with recommendations of the Joanna Briggs Institute. The search was carried out in nine electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Health System Evidence, Social Systems Evidence, Cochrane, ERIC and CINHAL and VHL) from the beginning of indexing until August 2021. Results The searches mapped 4,105 references, 2,805 of which were unrepeated. After screening, 211 studies were read in full and 82 included. The health sector was the most frequent in interventions, followed by education and social services. Programs aimed at childhood development and strategies focused on parenting, family and nutrition were the main interventions. In total, 89.0% presented children as direct beneficiaries of the strategies. The average duration of interventions was 14.5 months and 25.6% of studies based their methodology on frameworks to analyze the implementation of interventions. Half analyzed adaptations of interventions or programs, while 29.3% cited equity aspects of implementation. Conclusion This scoping review allowed the analysis of a set of interventions aimed at early childhood, demonstrating the potential of implementation research on early childhood development programs, identifying more appropriate strategies to the contexts and the reach of intended objectives, based on incorporation of implementation outcomes.

Resumen Objetivo Mapear sistemáticamente los estudios de implementación con foco en intervenciones dirigidas al desarrollo en la primera infancia, sus principales características y estrategias de implementación. Métodos Se planificó y ejecutó una revisión de alcance de la literatura global de acuerdo con las recomendaciones del Instituto Joanna Briggs. La búsqueda se realizó en nueve bases electrónicas (PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Health System Evidence, Social Systems Evidence, Cochrane, ERIC y CINHAL y BVS), desde el comienzo de la indexación hasta agosto de 2021. Resultados Las búsquedas mapearon 4105 referencias, de las cuales 2805 eran únicas. Luego de la clasificación, se leyeron 211 estudios completos y se incluyeron 82. El sector de la salud fue el más frecuente en las intervenciones, seguido de educación y servicio social. Las principales intervenciones fueron programas dirigidos al desarrollo infantil y estrategias centradas en la parentalidad, familia y nutrición. En total, el 89,0 % presentó a los infantes como beneficiarios directos de las estrategias. La duración promedio de las intervenciones fue de 14,5 meses y el 25,6 % de los estudios fundamentaron su metodología en frameworks para analizar la implementación de las intervenciones. La mitad analizó adaptaciones de las intervenciones o programas, mientras que el 29,3 % citó aspectos de equidad de la implementación. Conclusión Esta revisión de alcance permitió el análisis de un conjunto de intervenciones dirigidas a la primera infancia, lo que demuestra el potencial de los estudios de implementación de programas de desarrollo de la primera infancia e identifica estrategias más adecuadas a los contextos y al cumplimiento de los objetivos pretendidos, a partir de la incorporación de los resultados de implementación.

Resumo Objetivo Mapear sistematicamente as pesquisas de implementação com foco em intervenções voltadas ao desenvolvimento na primeira infância, suas principais características e estratégias de implementação. Métodos Uma revisão de escopo da literatura global foi planejada e executada conforme as recomendações do Instituto Joanna Briggs. A busca foi realizada em nove bases eletrônicas (PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Health System Evidence, Social Systems Evidence, Cochrane, ERIC e CINHAL e BVS), do início da indexação até agosto de 2021. Resultados As buscas mapearam 4.105 referências, sendo 2.805 únicas. Após triagem, 211 estudos foram lidos na íntegra e 82 incluídos. O setor saúde foi o mais frequente nas intervenções, seguido da educação e serviço social. Programas voltados ao desenvolvimento infantil e estratégias focadas na parentalidade, família, nutrição, foram principais intervenções. No total, 89,0% apresentaram as crianças como beneficiárias diretas das estratégias. A duração média das intervenções foi de 14,5 meses e 25,6% dos estudos fundamentaram sua metodologia em frameworks para analisar a implementação das intervenções. A metade analisou adaptações das intervenções ou programas, enquanto 29,3% citaram aspectos de equidade da implementação. Conclusão Esta revisão de escopo permitiu a análise de um conjunto de intervenções voltadas à primeira infância, demonstrando o potencial das pesquisas de implementação de programas de desenvolvimento da primeira infância, identificando estratégias mais adequadas aos contextos e o alcance dos objetivos pretendidos, a partir da incorporação dos desfechos de implementação.

Resumo Objetivou-se apontar as potencialidades do Fundo Virgínia Portocarrero, da Casa de Oswaldo Cruz/Fiocruz. O acervo foi doado em vida por sua titular, enfermeira brasileira veterana da Segunda Guerra Mundial. Dessa documentação constam registros de sua formação profissional e acadêmica, e é percebida sua determinação em preservar as reminiscências do front de batalha e do período pós-guerra, numa luta simbólica pelo registro de uma história essencialmente feminina em um cenário emblematicamente masculino. Integra o acervo ampla variedade de tipologias de fontes históricas, com destaque para um diário de sua participação no conflito, demonstrando aspectos cotidianos e peculiares de sua atuação profissional na saúde naquele momento dramático da história da humanidade.

Abstract This study investigates the potential of the Virgínia Portocarrero archive, at Casa de Oswaldo Cruz/Fiocruz. It was donated in life by Portocarrero, a Brazilian nurse and Second World War veteran. The documents include records from her education and training and show evidence of a determination to preserve her memories from the frontline and after the war, in a symbolic battle to record an essentially female story in a characteristically male setting. The archive contains a broad variety of types of historical sources, notably a diary on her participation in the conflict, demonstrating everyday and unusual aspects of her work as a health professional at that dramatic time in human history.

BACKGROUND Mycobacterium leprae, the causative agent of Hansen’s disease, causes neural damage through the specific interaction between the external phenolic glycolipid-1 (PGL-1) and laminin subunit alpha-2 (LAMA2) from Schwann cells. OBJECTIVE To design a LAMA2-based peptide that targets PGL-1 from M. leprae. METHODS We retrieved the protein sequence of human LAMA2 and designed a specific peptide using the Antimicrobial Peptide Database and physicochemical parameters for antimycobacterial peptide-lipid interactions. We used the AlphaFold2 server to predict its three-dimensional structure, AUTODOCK-VINA for docking, and GROMACS programs for molecular dynamics simulations. FINDINGS We analysed 52 candidate peptides from LAMA2, and subsequent screening resulted in a single 60-mer peptide. The mapped peptide comprises four β-sheets and a random coiled region. This peptide exhibits a 45% hydrophobic ratio, in which one-third covers the same surface. Molecular dynamics simulations show that our predicted peptide is stable in aqueous solution and remains stable upon interaction with PGL-1 binding. In addition, we found that PGL-1 has a preference for one of the two faces of the predicted peptide, which could act as the preferential binding site of PGL-1. MAIN CONCLUSIONS Our LAMA2-based peptide targeting PGL-1 might have the potential to specifically block this key molecule, suggesting that the preferential region of the peptide is involved in the initial contact during the attachment of leprosy bacilli to Schwann cells.

BACKGROUND Malaria remains common among native Amazonians, challenging Brazil′s elimination efforts. OBJECTIVES We examined the epidemiology of malaria in riverine populations of the country′s main hotspot - the upper Juruá Valley in Acre state, close to the Brazil-Peru border, where Plasmodium vivax accounts for > 80% of cases. METHODS Participants (n = 262) from 10 villages along the Azul River were screened for malaria parasites by microscopy and genus-specific, cytochrome b (cytb) gene-based polymerase chain reaction. Positive samples were further tested with quantitative TaqMan assays targeting P. vivax- and P. falciparum-specific cytb domains. We used multiple logistic regression analysis to identify independent correlates of P. vivax infection. FINDINGS Microscopy detected only one P. vivax and two P. falciparum infections. TaqMan assays detected 33 P. vivax infections (prevalence, 11.1%), 78.1% of which asymptomatic, with a median parasitaemia of 34/mL. Increasing age, male sex and use of insecticide-treated bed nets were significant predictors of elevated P. vivax malaria risk. Children and adults were similarly likely to remain asymptomatic once infected. MAIN CONCLUSIONS Our findings are at odds with the hypothesis of age-related clinical immunity in native Amazonians. The low virulence of local parasites is suggested as an alternative explanation for subclinical infections in isolated populations.

BACKGROUND Trypanosoma cruzi shows an exuberant genetic diversity. Currently, seven phylogenetic lineages, called discrete typing units (DTUs), are recognised: TcI-TcVI and Tcbat. Despite advances in studies on T. cruzi and its populations, there is no consensus regarding its heterogeneity. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to perform molecular characterisation of T. cruzi strains, isolated in the state of São Paulo, to identify the DTUs involved and evaluate their genetic diversity. METHODS T. cruzi strains were isolated from biological samples of chronic chagasic patients, marsupials and triatomines through culture techniques and subjected to molecular characterisation using the fluorescent fragment length barcoding (FFLB) technique. Subsequently, the results were correlated with complementary information to enable better discrimination between the identified DTUs. FINDINGS It was possible to identify TcI in two humans and two triatomines; TcII/VI in 19 humans, two marsupials and one triatomine; and TcIII in one human host, an individual that also presented a result for TcI, which indicated the possibility of a mixed infection. Regarding the strains characterised by the TcII/VI profile, the correlation with complementary information allowed to suggest that, in general, these parasite populations indeed correspond to the TcII genotype. MAIN CONCLUSIONS The TcII/VI profile, associated with domestic cycles and patients with chronic Chagas disease, was the most prevalent among the identified DTUs. Furthermore, the correlation of the study results with complementary information made it possible to suggest that TcII is the predominant lineage of this work.

ABSTRACT The COVID-19 pandemic has restricted access to HIV/AIDS prevention and services, affecting individual living and health conditions. We aimed to analyze the access of Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM) and transgender women to HIV prevention technologies, their sexual, sociability, and work practices during the COVID-19 pandemic in Curitiba (PR), Brazil. We implemented virtual semi-structured interviews and adopted the conceptual framework of vulnerability. The MaxQDA software facilitated the analysis. The results showed that many MSM managed to isolate themselves socially, restricting sexual partnerships while some lost their jobs, and income decline revolved among self-employed or freelancers. Female/trans sex workers had to stop social distancing to return to sex work, exposing themselves to the coronavirus. Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) was adopted by those already using it. The of PrEP and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) offer was preserved but modified. Specialized services adapted the attendance but generated users’ exposure and serological status disclosure. In conclusion, we highlight the need for continuous HIV services in public health emergencies, a State-guaranteed right.

RESUMO O advento da pandemia da Covid-19 restringiu o acesso à prevenção e aos serviços de HIV/AIDS, ocasionando efeitos nas condições de vida e saúde dos indivíduos. O objetivo foi analisar o acesso de Homens que fazem Sexo com Homens (HSH) e mulheres trans/travestis às tecnologias de prevenção do HIV, suas práticas sexuais, de sociabilidade e de trabalho no contexto da Covid-19 em Curitiba/PR. Foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas virtuais, e utilizado o referencial conceitual da vulnerabilidade. A análise foi viabilizada pelo software MaxQDA. Os resultados apontaram que muitos HSH conseguiram se isolar socialmente, restringindo as parcerias sexuais, alguns perderam o emprego, e a diminuição da renda girou entre os autônomos ou profissionais liberais. As mulheres trans/travestis profissionais do sexo tiveram que interromper o isolamento social para retornarem ao trabalho sexual, expondo-se ao novo coronavírus. A Profilaxia Pré-Exposição (PrEP) foi utilizada entre aqueles(as) que já estavam em uso. A oferta da PrEP e da Profilaxia Pós-Exposição (PEP) foram mantidas, mas sofreram mudanças. Os serviços especializados adequaram o atendimento, mas geraram exposição dos(as) usuários(as) e revelação do status sorológico. Como conclusão, destaca-se a necessidade de serviços de HIV contínuos em emergências de saúde pública, entendidos como um direito que deve ser garantido pelo Estado.

RESUMO Objetivo conhecer o perfil clínico e cirúrgico de pacientes que realizaram ceratoplastia em um hospital universitário. Métodos Trata-se de um estudo observacional analítico, do tipo transversal. Foram avaliadas as fichas de descrição cirúrgica dos prontuários dos pacientes transplantados nos anos de 2019 e 2020, a fim de analisar dados sociais e clínicos. Os dados foram tratados por meio do programa Microsoft Office Excel 2017. As variáveis numéricas foram analisadas com auxílio da estatística descritiva no programa Bioestat versão 5.3 (frequência, porcentagem, média). As informações descritivas foram analisadas qualitativamente. Resultados Foram realizados 167 procedimentos nesse período, notando-se faixa etária média de 45 anos, indivíduos do sexo masculino, receptores de tecidos doados no Pará ou provenientes do Estado do Ceará. Os transplantes foram majoritariamente ópticos, eletivos, com botão corneano doador em média de 8mm e receptor de 7,5mm. Quanto às indicações, a maioria era decorrente de distrofias corneanas, seguidas de leucoma e perfuração do globo ocular, com predominância da técnica cirúrgica penetrante, sutura interrompida e anestesia local. Conclusão O conhecimento desses dados é importante para considerar que o perfil clínico e cirúrgico dos pacientes do hospital estudado se aproxima da realidade nacional, sobretudo na indicação clínica.

ABSTRACT Objective to investigate the clinical and surgical profile of patients who performed keratoplasty in a university hospital. Methods It is a cross-sectional, observational study. The surgical description from the medical records of transplanted patients in the years 2019 and 2020 was assessed to analyze social and clinical data. Data were processed using the Microsoft Office Excel 2017 program. Numerical variables were analyzed using descriptive statistics in the Bioestat program version 5.3. Descriptive information was analyzed qualitatively. Results 167 procedures were performed in this period, with an average age of 45 years old, male individuals, recipients of tissue donated in Pará or sent from the State of Ceará. Transplants were mostly optic, elective, with an average corneal donor button of 8mm and recipient of 7.5mm. As for the indications, most were due to corneal dystrophies, followed by leukoma and perforation of the eyeball, with a predominance of the penetrating surgical technique, interrupted suture, and local anesthesia. Conclusion The knowledge of these data is important to consider that the clinical and surgical profile of patients in the hospital studied is close to the national reality, especially in clinical indication.
