Resumo O cenário brasileiro na segunda década do século XXI exige atenção no que diz respeito às questões ambientais com consequências às comunidades indígenas do país. No artigo, propõe-se discutir relatos de representantes indígenas quanto ao aumento da veiculação de notícias acerca da devastação ambiental com debates sobre mudanças na política socioambiental do país. Sob aportes teóricos que destacam essas problemáticas em populações indígenas, utiliza-se entrevistas realizadas com indígenas Kaingang. A partir de suas narrativas, discute-se o cenário socioambiental do Brasil e a veiculação de notícias acerca do tema. Abstract The Brazilian scenario in the second decade of the 21st century requires attention concerning environmental issues with consequences for the country’s indigenous communities. The article proposes to confront reports from indigenous representatives regarding the increased news dissemination about ecological devastation, with debates about changes in the country’s socio-environmental policy. Interviews with Kaingang indigenous people are used under theoretical contributions highlighting these issues in indigenous populations. The socio-environmental scenario in Brazil and news dissemination on the subject are discussed based on their narratives. Abstract Studies of genetic diversity and structure are key elements in designing effective in situ and ex situ management plans, especially for species experiencing forest fragmentation. To investigate the level of genetic diversity in populations of Trichocentrum pumilum, eight polymorphic microsatellite loci were developed and used for genotyping 96 specimens from four disturbed populations. Low genetic diversity within populations was found (average number of alleles per locus ranging from 3.75 to 4.25, observed and expected heterozygosities from 0.238 to 0.333 and from 0.450 to 0.482, respectively). The fixation index () ranged from 0.35 to 0.47, with significant values for all populations. No genotypic disequilibrium was detected. A mixed breeding system was found through an apparent outcrossing rate estimate. Our results suggest that these microsatellite loci are suitable for genetic studies of this species, showing low within population genetic diversity and moderate structure for T. pumilum populations.

Este trabalho analisou o sistema reprodutivo e o padrão de dispersão de pólen em progênies de Qualea grandiflora Mart. É uma espécie típica do Cerrado brasileiro ainda pouco analisada do ponto de vista genético. A área de estudo possui 2,2 hectares e localiza-se em Unidade de Conservação administrada pelo Instituto Florestal do Estado de São Paulo (Floresta Estadual de Assis). Foram extraídas amostras de DNA genômico total de 300 sementes provenientes de 25 matrizes (12 sementes de cada matriz), as quais foram amplificadas utilizando iniciadores específicos para obtenção de marcadores microssatélites. Os resultados indicaram que adultos e progênies possuem taxa de endogamia elevada e a espécie se reproduz por cruzamentos entre indivíduos parentes e não aparentados (0,913). A taxa uniloco foi de 0,632, indicando que há mais cruzamentos entre não parentes do que entre parentes. A taxa de autofecundação foi baixa (0,087), ou seja, a espécie é alógama, com pouca pré-disposição para autofecundação. Aproximadamente, 35% das plantas dentro de progênies eram parentes no grau de irmãos-completos e cerca de 57%, de meios-irmãos. Além disso, aproximadamente 8% das progênies eram irmãos de autofecundação. O coeficiente de coancestria estimado nas progênies foi 0,139, enquanto o índice de fixação, de aproximadamente 27%. A estimativa do tamanho efetivo indicou que a representatividade genética da descendência é inferior à esperada em progênies de cruzamentos aleatórios: as amostras analisadas correspondem a apenas 13,2 indivíduos de uma população panmítica ideal. A coleta de sementes para uso em programas de recuperação ambiental precisa ser realizada em 95 árvores e, de preferência, de frutos distintos, para manter a diversidade genética da espécie.

This study analyzed the reproductive system and the pollen dispersion pattern of Qualea grandiflora progenies. This is a typical species from the Brazilian Cerrado about which there are not too many studies from the genetics point of view. The study was conducted in an area of 2.2 hectares located in the Conservation Unit managed by the Forest Institute of the state of São Paulo, Brazil (Assis State Forest). Total genomic DNA of 300 seeds from 25 plants (12 seeds from each plant) was extracted and amplified using specific primers to obtain microsatellite markers. Results showed that selfing is frequent among adults and progenies, and the species reproduces by outcrossing between related and unrelated individuals (0.913). The single-locus outcrossing rate was 0.632, which indicates that mating between unrelated individuals is more frequent than between related plants. The selfing rate was low (0.087), that is, the species is allogamous and self-fertilization is reduced. About 35% of the plants in the progenies were full-sibs, and about 57%, half-sibs. Besides, about 8% of the progenies were selfing siblings. The genetic differentiation coefficient within progenies was 0.139, whereas the fixation rate was about 27%. The estimate of the effective size revealed that the genetic representativeness of descent was lower than expected in random mating progenies: The analyzed samples corresponded to only 13.2 individuals of an ideal panmictic population. In environmental recovery programs, seeds, preferably from different fruits, should be collected from 95 trees to preserve the genetic diversity of the species.

Considerando que a perda de grandes áreas de Cerrado no Brasil pode levar à diminuição da biodiversidade e, mesmo, à extinção de espécies, questiona-se a fragilidade genética de populações de Copaifera langsdorffii Desf. expostas a diferentes condições antrópicas em fragmentos de Cerrado do Estado de São Paulo. Foram consideradas duas áreas em Estações Experimentais do Instituto Florestal (Assis e Itirapina), uma área em unidade de conservação de proteção integral (Pedregulho) e outra área de propriedade particular (Brotas). As análises foram realizadas com amostras foliares de 353 indivíduos adultos e oito pares de locos microssatélites. O número de alelos por loco variou de 13 a 15 em todas as populações, porém o número médio de alelos efetivos foi aproximadamente a metade desse valor (7,2 a 9-1). As estimativas de heterozigosidade observada foram significativas e ficaram abaixo dos valores esperados em todas as populações. Consequentemente, as populações não aderem às frequências esperadas para o Equilíbrio de Hardy-Weinberg. O índice de fixação obteve valores significativos em todas as populações; o menor valor foi da população de Pedregulho (0,189) e o maior, da população de Itirapina (0,283). As análises de estrutura genética espacial indicaram a formação de estrutura familiar entre 20 e 65 m nas populações. Não foi detectada a presença de clones. As estimativas de tamanho efetivo populacional foram baixas, no entanto as populações possuem área mínima viável para conservação no curto e médio prazos. Foram identificadas reduções recentes ou efeito de gargalo nas quatro populações. As análises de divergência genética (Gst’) indicaram que a maior parte da divergência se encontrava dentro das populações. A análise de estrutura de grupos com base nos genótipos resultou em K = quatro grupos, com padrões de frequências alélicas distintas. A diferenciação genética observada entre as populações é consistente com a hipótese de seu isolamento genético e geográfico. Portanto, é imprescindível a adoção de estratégias de conservação que aumentam o fluxo gênico entre os fragmentos.

The loss of large areas of Cerrado (Brazilian savanna) in Brazil can lead to reduced biodiversity and to the extinction of species. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the genetic fragility of populations of Copaifera langsdorffii Desf exposed to different anthropic conditions in fragments of Cerrado in the state of São Paulo. The study was carried out in two Experimental Stations operated by the Forest Institute (Assis and Itirapina), in one fully protected conservation unit (Pedregulho) and in one private property (Brotas). Analyses were conducted using leaf samples from 353 adult specimens and eight pairs of microsatellite loci. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 13 to 15 in all populations, but the mean number of effective alleles was approximately half this value (7.2 to 9-1). Observed heterozygosity was significant and lower than the expected in all populations. Consequently, all populations deviated from Hardy-Weinberg expected frequencies. Fixation indexes were significant for all populations, with the Pedregulho population having the lowest value (0.189) and Itirapina having the highest (0.283). The analysis of spatial genetic structure detected family structures at distance classes of 20 to 65 m in the populations studied. No clones were detected in the populations. Estimates of effective population size were low, but the area occupied by each population studied was large enough for conservation, medium and long term. Recent reductions or bottlenecks were detected in all four populations. Mean Gst’ (genetic divergence) indicated that most of the variation was within populations. Cluster structure analysis based on the genotypes detected K= 4 clusters with distinct allele frequencies patterns. The genetic differentiation observed among populations is consistent with the hypothesis of genetic and geographic isolation. Therefore, it is essential to adopt conservation strategies that raise the gene flow between fragments.

O cerrado possui seu limite austral de ocorrência nos Campos Gerais do Paraná onde, na forma de pequenos fragmentos disjuntos, tem grande afinidade com as formações savânicas de São Paulo e do Planalto Central do Brasil. Encontra-se, na sua maior parte, em propriedades particulares, sob forte pressão da agropecuária, tendo sido até então pouco estudado. Foram realizadas análises florísticas e fitofisionômicas de 30 remanescentes de cerrado em seis municípios, com determinação de um total de 1.782 táxons. Asteraceae foi a família com maior riqueza de espécies (256), seguida por Fabaceae (207), Poaceae (183), Myrtaceae (72) e Melastomataceae (54). Encontrou-se um gradiente latitudinal e geomorfológico na distribuição das fisionomias: cerrado stricto sensu (50%) e cerradão (13%) distribuem-se nos planaltos areníticos ao norte da região; enquanto cerrado rupestre (17%) e campo sujo com fácies de cerrado (20%) estão mais representados nas porções meridionais, nos relevos escarpados dos vales dos rios. Os remanescentes mostraram similaridade florística com áreas core do Bioma e podem ser consideradas áreas marginais da amplitude geográfica de muitos táxons, compartilhando espécies típicas, características da Província Sulina. Portanto, estas áreas campestres seriam melhor classificadas como savanas do que como estepes. A fitocenose mais austral em Ponta Grossa, com alta riqueza de espécies, encontra-se isolada biogeograficamente dos demais elementos do Bioma, constituindo um possível centro de endemismo.

The cerrado (Brazilian savannah) has its Southern limits of occurrence in the Campos Gerais region in the State of Paraná, through small disjunction patches with great affinities with the Northern savannah formations of São Paulo and the Central Plateau of Brazil. They are mostly on private lands, under strong pressure from agribusiness and have been hitherto little studied. A floristic and phytophysiognomical analysis of 30 remnants in different municipalities was carried out, reaching a total of 1,782 determined taxa, being Asteraceae the richest family (256), followed by Fabaceae (207), Poaceae (183), Myrtaceae (72) and Melastomataceae (54). There is a geomorphological and latitudinal gradient on the distribution of physiognomies: cerrado stricto sensu (50%) and cerradão (13%) are distributed mainly in the sandstone plateaus in the north region, while cerrado rupestre (17%) and grassland with cerrado facies (20%) are most frequent in the river valleys cliffs in the South. These remnants present floristic similarity with the core area of the Biome, and could be considered marginal areas of the geographical range of several taxa, sharing typical species of the Southern Province. Thus the whole area would be more correctly named savannah instead of steppe. The austral phytocoenosis of Ponta Grossa, a possible endemism centre with great richness, is biogeographically isolated from the other cerrado patches.
