Abstract The present study aimed to investigate the socioeconomic and obstetric characteristics of adolescent mothers and the complications they cause to maternal and neonatal health. This baseline data analysis of the MINA-Brazil birth cohort was conducted in the municipality of Cruzeiro do Sul, state of Acre, Brazil. The chi-square test was used to compare characteristics of adolescent and adult postpartum women, and multiple Poisson regression models with robust variance were used to assess associated factors. Among the postpartum women, 26.2% (95%CI: 24.0-28.4) were adolescents. Factors associated with childbirth in adolescence included: nine years or less of schooling (adjPR:1.36; 95%CI: 1.14-1.61), belongs to the lowest quartiles of the wealth index (1st quartile: adjPR:1.40; 95%CI: 1.08-1.80) (2nd quartile: adjPR:1.37; 95%CI: 1.08-1.74), primigravidae (adjPR:3.69; 95%CI: 2.98-4.57), low pre-pregnancy BMI (adjPR:1.28; CI95%: 1.04-1.57), urinary tract infection during pregnancy (adjPR:1.25; CI95%: 1.07-1.46) and less than six prenatal consultations (adjPR:1.42; 95%CI: 1.21-1.66). Poverty, little schooling, primigravidae, low pre-pregnancy BMI, urinary tract infection during pregnancy and few prenatal consultations were associated with childbirth during adolescence in a municipality in the Northern region of Brazil.

Resumo O objetivo do estudo foi investigar as características socioeconômicas e obstétricas de parturientes adolescentes e suas complicações sobre a saúde materna e neonatal. Pobreza, baixa escolaridade, primigestação, baixo IMC pré-gestacional, infecção urinária na gestação e menor número de consultas de pré-natal foram associados ao parto na adolescência em município da região Norte do Brasil.

Abstract The Federal University of Goiás (UFG) and the University of Brasília (UnB), in partnership with the company Eletrobras Furnas, have developed research and, based on this, extension projects aimed at education in a broad sense, in which they seek to disseminate and popularise technical-scientific knowledge. This paper aims to present and evaluate educational actions carried out in the area of soil science and geotechnics applied to engineering, geography, and the environment. To do so, the educational experiences developed within the scope of two extension projects are shared. Besides that, the relevance of publishing books and primer, with language adapted to lay society, within the scope of research projects, is analysed. The results collected regarding the effectiveness of the extension actions as a tool for learning point to a positive evaluation by the students. Furthermore, social networks are an important tool for scientific dissemination and have the potential to disseminate knowledge more widely than in a classroom course. By comparing the number of citations in Google Scholar of the books and booklets with the papers arising from these projects, one can observe the reach of this type of publication, although its purpose is the popularisation of science, with reach in places not considered in the technical-scientific publication metrics. Finally, for effective scientific development, it is necessary to have public policies, effective interaction between universities, research centres and schools, and the participation of professional associations, funding and evaluation agencies, Education Departments and the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Resumen Objetivo Identificar la prevalencia de la alfabetización funcional en salud y analizar la asociación entre los niveles de alfabetización funcional en salud y las variables clínicas y sociodemográficas en pacientes renales crónicos no dializados. Métodos Estudio transversal realizado con 167 pacientes renales crónicos con seguimiento en consultorios externos de nefrología de un municipio de gran porte del estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Para las entrevistas se utilizó un cuestionario sociodemográfico y clínico y la versión brasileña del Short Assessment of Health Literacy for Portuguese Speaking Adults - SAHLPA-18, para medir la alfabetización funcional en salud. Se realizó estadística descriptiva para variables sociodemográficas y clínicas, pruebas de correlación y modelos de regresión lineales para asociación con alfabetización funcional en salud. Resultados La mayoría de los participantes eran personas mayores de 68 años de mediana de edad, el 33,3 % (56 pacientes) se encontraba en la etapa 3B de la enfermedad renal crónica y el 53,9 % (90 pacientes) presentó alfabetización funcional en salud inadecuada. No hubo asociación entre los niveles de alfabetización funcional en salud y las variables clínicas. La mayoría relató que no usaba internet y la etapa más avanzada de la enfermedad renal crónica presentó menor puntaje de alfabetización. Se identificaron peores puntajes de alfabetización funcional en salud en aquellos con menores ingresos. Conclusión La mayoría de los participantes presentó alfabetización funcional en salud inadecuada. Las variables clínicas no fueron predictoras de los puntajes de alfabetización. Sin embargo, se identificaron puntajes más bajos de alfabetización en salud en aquellos en etapa más avanzada de la enfermedad renal, con menores ingresos y menor uso de internet.

Resumo Objetivo Identificar a prevalência de letramento funcional em saúde e analisar a associação entre os níveis de letramento funcional em saúde e as variáveis clínicas e sociodemográficas em pacientes renais crônicos não dialíticos. Métodos Estudo transversal realizado com 167 renais crônicos em acompanhamento no ambulatório de nefrologia de um município de grande porte do estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Para as entrevistas foram utilizados questionário sociodemográfico e clínico e a versão brasileira do Short Assessment of Health Literacy for Portuguese Speaking Adults - SAHLPA-18, para mensurar o letramento funcional em saúde. Realizado estatística descritiva para variáveis sociodemográficas e clínicas; testes de correlação e modelos de regressão lineares para associação com letramento funcional em saúde. Resultados A maior parte dos participantes era idosa com mediana de idade de 68 anos, 33,3% (56 pacientes) se encontravam no estágio 3B da doença renal crônica e 53,9% (90 pacientes) apresentaram letramento funcional em saúde inadequado. Não houve associação entre os níveis de letramento funcional em saúde e as variáveis clínicas. A maioria referiu não usar internet e o estágio mais avançado da doença renal crônica apresentou menores escores de letramento. Piores escores de letramento funcional em saúde também foi identificado naqueles com menor renda. Conclusão A maioria dos participantes apresentou letramento funcional em saúde inadequado. As variaveis clínicas não foram preditoras dos ecores de letramento. No entanto, escores mais baixos de letramento em saúde foram identificados naqueles em estágio mais avancado da doença renal, menor renda e menor uso da internet.

Abstract Objective To identify the prevalence of functional health literacy and analyze the association between functional health literacy levels and clinical and sociodemographic variables in non-dialysis chronic kidney disease patients. Methods This is a cross-sectional study carried out with 167 chronic kidney disease patients being monitored at the nephrology outpatient clinic of a large city in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. For the interviews, a sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire and the Brazilian version of the Short Assessment of Health Literacy for Portuguese Speaking Adults (SAHLPA-18) were used to measure functional health literacy. Descriptive statistics were performed for sociodemographic and clinical variables, and correlation tests and linear regression models for association with functional health literacy. Results Most participants were older adults with a median age of 68 years, 33.3% (56 patients) were in stage 3B of chronic kidney disease and 53.9% (90 patients) had inadequate functional health literacy. There was no association between functional health literacy levels and clinical variables. The majority reported not using the internet and the more advanced stage of chronic kidney disease had lower literacy scores. Worse functional health literacy scores were also identified in those with lower income. Conclusion Most participants had inadequate functional health literacy. Clinical variables were not predictors of literacy scores. However, lower health literacy scores were identified in those with more advanced stage kidney disease, lower income and less internet use.

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated chromium and quantitative and qualitative feed restriction as alternative nutritional strategies to ractopamine in finishing barrows. Fifty barrows, genetically similar, with an initial body weight of 99.0 ± 4.3 kg and a final body weight of 117.2 ± 5.8 kg were used. The animals were distributed in a randomized complete block design with five nutritional treatments (Control; Rac = 10ppm ractopamine; Chromium = 0,8mg chromium yeast; Quality = qualitative restriction, 7.5% less net energy in the diet; Quanti = 15% quantitative reduction in feed supply), with five replicates and two animals per replicate. Chromium supplementation and quantitative feed restriction reduced feed, lysine, net energy, and crude protein intakes (P < 0.05). Chromium, ractopamine, and quantitative restriction improved feed conversion (P < 0.05). Supplementation with chromium and ractopamine and feed restriction did not influence the carcass characteristics of the pigs (P < 0.05). Quantitative feed restriction and supplementation of 0.8mg of chromium yeast are presented as potential alternatives to ractopamine in the diet of finishing pigs.

RESUMO: O estudo foi conduzido com o objetivo de avaliar o cromo e restrições alimentares quantitativa e qualitativa como estratégias nutricionais alternativas a ractopamina para suínos machos castrados em terminação. Foram utilizados 50 suínos machos castrados, geneticamente similares, com peso inicial de 99,0 ± 4,3 kg e final de 117,2 ± 5,8 kg. Os animais foram distribuídos em delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso em cinco tratamentos nutricionais (Controle; Rac = 10ppm de ractopamina; Cromo = 0,8mg de cromo levedura; Qualit = restrição qualitativa com menos 7,5% de energia líquida na dieta e Quanti = redução quantitativa de 15% no fornecimento de ração), com cinco repetições e dois animais por repetição. A suplementação de cromo e a restrição alimentar quantitativa reduziram (P < 0,05) os consumos de ração, lisina digestível, energia líquida e proteína bruta. O cromo, a ractopamina e a restrição quantitativa melhoraram (P < 0,05) a conversão alimentar. A suplementação de cromo, ractopamina e as restrições alimentares não influenciam (P < 0,05) as características de carcaça dos suínos. A restrição alimentar quantitativa e a suplementação de 0,8 mg de cromo levedura se apresentam como potenciais alternativas para a substituição da ractopamina nas dietas.

ABSTRACT: This study aimed to optimize the ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) of total anthocyanins from two stages of ripening purple tomatoes (low and high) and to compare the optimized extraction with the conventional one. In the optimization of UAE, the studied variables were time (5 to 75 min), temperature (30 to 70 °C), and solid: liquid ratio (1:5 to 1:15 m/v). The optimal condition of the UAE process, for low-ripened purple tomatoes, occurs at a time of 75 min, temperature of 40 °C, and solid: liquid ratio of 1:15 m/v, predicting the content of 12.487 mg/100g. For high-ripened purple tomatoes, the optimal condition occurs at a time of 40 min, temperature of 50 °C, and solid: liquid ratio of 1:15 m/v, predicting the content of 8.802 mg/100 g. On validation of these optimized conditions, less than a 3% difference was reported between the predicted and experimental values (12.267 mg/100 g for low-ripened, and 8.894 mg/100 g for high-ripened purple tomatoes). When comparing the optimized UAE with the conventional extraction, it was observed that UAE increased (P < 0.05) the extraction of total anthocyanins content by 73% for low-ripened and by 54% for high-ripened purple tomatoes. Thus, the study indicated that the UAE is an efficient technology for recovering bioactive compounds from purple tomatoes.

RESUMO: Este estudo teve como objetivo otimizar a extração assistida por ultrassom (EAU) de antocianinas totais de dois estágios de maturação de tomates roxos (baixo e alto) e comparar a extração otimizada com a convencional. Na otimização da EAU, as variáveis estudadas foram tempo (5 a 75 min), temperatura (30 a 70 °C) e razão sólido:líquido (1:5 a 1:15 m/v). A condição otimizada da EAU, para tomates roxos em baixa maturação, ocorreu no tempo de 75 min, temperatura de 40 °C e razão sólido:líquido de 1:15 m/v, prevendo o teor de 12,487 mg/100 g. Para tomates roxos em alta maturação, a condição ideal ocorreu no tempo de 40 min, temperatura de 50 °C e razão sólido:líquido de 1:15 m/v, prevendo o teor de 8,802 mg/100 g. Na validação das condições otimizadas, foi encontrada uma diferença inferior a 3% entre os valores previstos e experimentais (12,267 mg/100g para baixa-maturação e 8,894 mg/100 g para alta-maturação). Ao comparar a EAU otimizada com a convencional, observou-se que a EAU aumentou (P < 0,05) a extração de antocianinas totais em 73% para tomates em baixa-maturação e 54% para tomates roxos em alta-maturação. Assim, o estudo indica que os EAU é uma tecnologia eficiente para a recuperação de antocianinas de tomates roxos.

ABSTRACT Salinity is one of the abiotic stresses that affect gas exchange and growth of pomegranate. In this context, the application of nitrogen fertilizer through the leaves can minimize these effects. Thus, the objective of present study was to evaluate the effect of foliar nitrogen fertilization on pomegranate seedlings irrigated with brackish water. The design used was randomized blocks, in an incomplete factorial scheme (Central Composite Design) with five electrical conductivities of irrigation water - ECw (0.50, 1.15, 2.75, 4.35, and 5.00 dS m-1) and five doses of foliar nitrogen fertilization - FNF (0, 0.33, 1.15, 1.97, and 2.30 g L-1), with four replicates and two plants per experimental plot. Plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, and gas exchange (stomatal conductance, net photosynthesis, intercellular CO2 concentration, transpiration rate, instantaneous carboxylation efficiency, instantaneous water use efficiency, and intrinsic water use efficiency) were evaluated at 60 days after the beginning of irrigation with saline water. Salinity of irrigation water negatively affects the gas exchange of pomegranate seedlings. Foliar nitrogen fertilization up to 1.31 g L-1 improves plant height and number of leaves in pomegranate seedlings under salt stress. Foliar nitrogen fertilization up to 1.59 g L-1 increases the net photosynthesis of pomegranate seedlings.

RESUMO A salinidade é um dos estresses abióticos que afeta as trocas gasosas e o crescimento de romãzeira. Neste sentido, à aplicação de adubo nitrogenado via foliar poderá minimizar estes efeitos. Com isso, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o efeito da aplicação foliar com nitrogênio em mudas de romã irrigadas com águas salobra. O delineamento utilizado foi de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial incompleto (Composto Central de Box), sendo cinco condutividade elétrica da água - CEa (0,50; 1,15; 2,75; 4,35 e 5,00 dS m-1) e cinco doses de adubação nitrogenada via foliar - ANF (0; 0,33; 1,15; 1,97 e 2,30 g L-1), com quatro repetições. A salinidade da água de irrigação afeta negativamente as trocas gasosas de mudas de romãzeira. A adubação nitrogenada foliar até 1,31 g L-1 melhora o crescimento em altura e no número de folhas em mudas de romãzeira sob estresse salino. Adubação nitrogenada foliar até a dose de 1,59 g L-1 aumenta a fotossíntese das mudas de romãzeira.

Resumo Apresentam-se resultados do Projeto Nós Propomos! que aposta na organização do currículo de Geografia a partir da identificação de problemas locais pelos estudantes das escolas envolvidas. Desde 2011 este Projeto tem sido implementado pelo Instituto de Geografia e Ordenamento Territorial da Universidade de Lisboa/IGOT-ULisboa, mobilizando escolas de todo o país, no quadro da disciplina de Geografia, tendo em vista um efetivo compromisso com a comunidade. A partir de 2014, o projeto ganhou fôlego internacional no espaço ibero-americano e já para além do mesmo. Tem como proposta metodológica desafiar os estudantes a identificarem problemas locais relevantes, desenvolver trabalho de campo sobre os mesmos e apontar possíveis soluções. Centram-se nas aprendizagens dos próprios alunos. Espera-se que os estudantes desenvolvam a cidadania territorial, entendida como participação responsável nas tomadas de decisões sobre os problemas da localidade de base espacial.

Abstract The results of the We Propose! Project are presented, which focuses on the organization of the geography curriculum based on the identification of local problems by the students of the schools involved. Since 2011, this project has been implemented by the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon/IGOT-ULisboa, mobilizing schools from all over the country, in the framework of the discipline of Geography, with a view to have an effective commitment to the community. Since 2014, the project has gained international momentum in Ibero-America and beyond. Its methodological proposal is to challenge students to identify relevant local problems, develop field work on them, and point out possible solutions. The learning will be centered on the students themselves. It is expected that the students develop territorial citizenship, understood as responsible participation in decision-making about the problems of the spatially-based locality.

Resumo Introdução: O Centro de Material e Esterilização (CME) é o setor responsável pelo processamento de materiais de uso na assistência a saúde. O CME tem o auxílio da equipe de Comissão de Controle de Infecção Hospitalar (CCIH), com o objetivo de elaborar e garantir a qualidade de todas as etapas do processamento, afim de reduzir as taxas de infecção relacionada à assistência à saúde e desse modo, contribuir para a segurança do paciente. Objetivos: Analisar a compreensão que a equipe de enfermagem do CME tem referente ao processamento de materiais da saúde, as legislações vigentes, sobre a importância do seu trabalho para a segurança do paciente. Método: Pesquisa de campo, qualitativa, fundamentada na Hermenêutica-Dialética, desenvolvida em um hospital público do interior do Estado de São Paulo. Participaram 21 profissionais da equipe através de entrevistas semiestruturadas. Resultados: A partir da análise dos sentidos obtidos nas falas dos participantes, emergiram seis categorias analíticas: 1. Compreensão das etapas do processo de trabalho no CME; 2. Incompreensão das legislações da ANVISA (RDC 2605, 156, 15); 3. Compreensão da importância do trabalho do CME para a segurança do paciente; Considerações finais: A partir da Hermenêutica-Dialética, evidenciou-se como a enfermagem compreende o seu processo de trabalho e a importância para a segurança do paciente, indicando as carências e demandas para a realização de suas atividades e a necessidade de continuar aprendendo no cotidiano do trabalho.

Abstract Introduction: The Material and Sterilization Center (CME) is the sector responsible for processing materials for use in health care. The CME has the assistance of the Hospital Infection Control Commission (CCIH) team, with the objective of preparing and guaranteeing the quality of all stages of processing, in order to reduce the rates of infection related to health care and, thus, contribute to patient safety. Objectives: To analyze the literary evidence and the understanding that the CME nursing team has regarding the processing of health materials, current legislation, about the importance of their work for patient safety. Method: Qualitative field research, based on Hermeneutics-Dialectics, developed in a public hospital in the interior of the State of São Paulo. 21 professionals from the team participated through semi-structured interviews. Results: From the analysis of the meanings obtained in the speeches of the participants, six analytical categories emerged: 1. Understanding the stages of the work process in the CSSD; 2. Misunderstanding of ANVISA legislation (RDC 2605, 156, 15); 3. Understanding the importance of the CME's work for patient safety; Final considerations: From the Hermeneutics-Dialectics, it was evident how nursing understands its work process and the importance for patient safety, indicating the needs and demands for carrying out its activities and the need to continue learning in everyday life from work.

RESUMO A decisão vacinal de profissionais de saúde tem sido observada em diferentes países, devido ao seu comportamento de hesitação frente à vacinação contra a Covid-19, que pode interferir no controle da pandemia. Pretendeu-se identificar os fatores associados à decisão vacinal de profissionais de saúde contra a Covid-19 em publicações de julho de 2020 a julho de 2022. Foi realizada uma revisão integrativa da literatura nas bases de dados PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science e Cinahl. Das 439 publicações, foram escolhidos 35 artigos para análise. As características sociodemográficas da decisão vacinal revelaram que profissionais não médicos, principalmente enfermeiros, apresentaram maior hesitação. O estudo revelou fatores associados à hesitação vacinal, tais como: dúvidas sobre a eficácia das vacinas e o processo de produção, insegurança pela escassez de estudos, medo dos efeitos colaterais e informações veiculadas em mídias sociais. Em relação à aceitação e à recomendação vacinal, ressaltam-se a vacinação prévia contra a influenza, a confiança na eficácia das vacinas e o receio pelo risco de contágio por Covid-19. A identificação dos fatores associados à decisão vacinal de profissionais de saúde contra a Covid-19 foi estratégica em relação à ampliação da cobertura vacinal, tanto para a proteção da saúde dos profissionais quanto para a da população.

ABSTRACT The vaccine decision of health professionals has been observed in different countries, due to their hesitation behavior in the face of vaccination against COVID-19, which can interfere with the control of the pandemic. It was intended to identify the factors associated with the vaccination decision of health professionals against COVID-19 in publications from July 2020 to July 2022. An Integrative Literature Review was carried out in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and CINAHL databases. Of the 439 publications, 35 articles were chosen for analysis. The sociodemographic characteristics of the vaccine decision revealed that non-medical professionals, mainly nurses, had greater vaccine hesitancy. The study revealed factors associated with vaccine hesitancy, such as: doubts about the effectiveness of vaccines and the production process, insecurity due to lack of studies, fear of side effects and information conveyed on social media. Regarding vaccine acceptance and recommendation, prior vaccination against influenza, confidence in the effectiveness of vaccines and fear of the risk of contagion by COVID-19 stand out. Identifying the factors associated with the vaccination decision of health professionals against COVID-19 was strategic in relation to expanding vaccination coverage, both to protect the health of professionals and the population.

ABSTRACT The vaccine decision of health professionals has been observed in different countries, due to their hesitation behavior in the face of vaccination against COVID-19, which can interfere with the control of the pandemic. It was intended to identify the factors associated with the vaccination decision of health professionals against COVID-19 in publications from July 2020 to July 2022. An Integrative Literature Review was carried out in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and CINAHL databases. Of the 439 publications, 35 articles were chosen for analysis. The sociodemographic characteristics of the vaccine decision revealed that non-medical professionals, mainly nurses, had greater vaccine hesitancy. The study revealed factors associated with vaccine hesitancy, such as: doubts about the effectiveness of vaccines and the production process, insecurity due to lack of studies, fear of side effects and information conveyed on social media. Regarding vaccine acceptance and recommendation, prior vaccination against influenza, confidence in the effectiveness of vaccines and fear of the risk of contagion by COVID-19 stand out. RESUMO A decisão vacinal de profissionais de saúde tem sido observada em diferentes países, devido ao seu comportamento de hesitação frente à vacinação contra a Covid-19, que pode interferir no controle da pandemia. Pretendeu-se identificar os fatores associados à decisão vacinal de profissionais de saúde contra a Covid-19 em publicações de julho de 2020 a julho de 2022. Foi realizada uma revisão integrativa da literatura nas bases de dados PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science e Cinahl. Das 439 publicações, foram escolhidos 35 artigos para análise. As características sociodemográficas da decisão vacinal revelaram que profissionais não médicos, principalmente enfermeiros, apresentaram maior hesitação. O estudo revelou fatores associados à hesitação vacinal, tais como: dúvidas sobre a eficácia das vacinas e o processo de produção, insegurança pela escassez de estudos, medo dos efeitos colaterais e informações veiculadas em mídias sociais. Em relação à aceitação e à recomendação vacinal, ressaltam-se a vacinação prévia contra a influenza, a confiança na eficácia das vacinas e o receio pelo risco de contágio por Covid-19. A identificação dos fatores associados à decisão vacinal de profissionais de saúde contra a Covid-19 foi estratégica em relação à ampliação da cobertura vacinal, tanto para a proteção da saúde dos profissionais quanto para a da população.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The Glanzmann Thrombasthenia (GT) and Bernard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS) are rare hereditary disorders of platelet function. Their treatment often requires platelet transfusion, which can lead to the development of alloantibodies. Objective: In this study, we aim to develop a strategy for alloantibody detection and to describe the frequency of alloimmunization in a patient population from a single center in southeastern Brazil. Methods: Samples from patients with GT or BSS were tested using the Platelet Immunofluorescence Test (PIFT). If a positive result was obtained, a confirmatory step using the Monoclonal Antibody Immobilization of Platelet Antigens (MAIPA) and Luminex bead-based platelet assay (PAKLx) was executed. Main results: Among 11 patients with GT, we detected the presence of alloantibodies in 5 using PIFT, with confirmation through MAIPA and PAKLx in 2 (1 anti-HLA and 1 anti-HPA), resulting in a frequency of 18.1%. Among 4 patients with BSS, PIFT was positive in 3, with confirmation by MAIPA and PAKLx in 1 (anti-HLA), showing a frequency of 25%. The two patients with anti-HLA antibodies exhibited a panel reactive antibody (PRA-HLA) testing greater than 97%. Conclusion: Our study highlights the importance of identifying platelet alloimmunization in this patient population. The proposed algorithm for platelet alloantibodies detection allows resource optimization.

RESUMO Objetivou-se descrever a condição de saúde bucal de idosos institucionalizados, com enfoque no edentulismo, na necessidade de prótese e na Autopercepção de Saúde Bucal (ASB), e explorar a associação com fatores individuais. Um estudo transversal foi realizado em Ponta Grossa, município do Sul do Brasil, com amostra de conveniência de idosos residentes em três Instituições de Longa Permanência para Idosos. Por meio de questionário estruturado, foram coletados dados sobre características demográficas, de saúde geral e bucal e acesso a serviços de saúde. No exame bucal, avaliou-se o Índice de dentes permanentes Cariados, Perdidos e Obturados (CPO-D), número de dentes presentes, uso e necessidade de prótese dentária e presença de lesões bucais. Foram avaliados 130 idosos, a maioria com mais de 80 anos (62,20%). O CPO-D médio foi de 30,62 (desvio-padrão 2,85), 62,31% dos idosos eram edêntulos, 41,54% usavam e 79,23% necessitavam de prótese dentária. As lesões bucais foram identificadas em 35,42% dos avaliados, e 64,86% dos idosos classificaram a ASB como boa. Conclui-se que a saúde bucal dos participantes foi considerada ruim, do ponto de vista clínico, levando em consideração a alta prevalência de edentulismo e a necessidade do uso de prótese dentária.

ABSTRACT The aim was to describe the oral health status of institutionalized older people, focusing on edentulism, need for dentures, and Self-Perception of Oral Health (SPOH), and to explore the association with individual factors. A cross-sectional study was carried out in Ponta Grossa, in the South of Brazil, with a convenience sample of older people living in three Long Stay Institutions for the Elderly. Using a structured questionnaire, data on demographic, general, and oral health characteristics and access to health services were collected. In the oral examination, the Index of Decayed, Missing and Filled permanent Teeth (DMFT), number of teeth present, use and need for dental prosthesis, and presence of oral lesions were evaluated. 130 older people were evaluated, most of them over 80 years old (62.20%). The mean DMFT was 30.62 (± 2.85), 62.31% of attendees were edentulous, 41.54% used, and 79.23% needed dental prosthesis. Oral lesions were identified in 35.42% of those evaluated and 64.86% of the participants classified their SPOH as good. It is concluded that the oral health of the participants was considered poor, from a clinical point of view, taking into account the high prevalence of edentulism and the need to use dental prosthesis.

ABSTRACT. This study aimed to map the world's scientific production of bacterial and fungal microbiota in mollusks. The research was carried out in the Web of Science database, using “Fungi AND Mollusk” and “Bacteria AND Mollusk” descriptors and publication time between 2001 and 2021. Indexes were built by years, countries, research areas, and two maps of the co-occurrence of terms. There was a progressive increase in the production of microbiota in mollusks, with more research on bacteria during the investigated period. China and USA were the countries with the highest percentage of publications. Research with fungi and bacteria accounted for 28.41 and 17.66% in China, respectively. While the USA, the percentage was 21.05% for fungi and 16.02% for bacteria. Areas such as marine and freshwater biology (24.77%), fisheries (23.86%), biochemistry and molecular biology (18.60%), and pharmacy (17.83%) showed a higher percentage of indexed articles. There was also a high concentration of deposits of publications in the immunology area for both themes. The groups formed for bacteria and fungi indicated that studies had described the immune responses of mollusks, the genetic aspects associated with their defense mechanisms, pathogen virulence factors, and symbiotic and pathogenic microbiota, highlighting genera Vibrio, Aspergillus, and Escherichia coli pathogenic pathotypes. The bacterial and fungal microbiota in mollusks have been studied in several areas of knowledge and have given rise to research that can support the proper management of mollusks, application in the pharmaceutical industry, and implementation of measures in public health.

ABSTRACT This study investigated the effects of dietary supplementation with Mansoa alliacea hydroalcoholic extracts on growth, blood and immune parameters of Arapaima gigas. Fish were fed for 30 days with diets enriched with 0, 4, 8, and 12 g kg-1 of M. alliacea hydroalcoholic extract and subjected to infection with Aeromonas hydrophila and handling stress. Fish fed with 8 g kg-1 of extract showed significant increase in final weight, specific growth rate and feed efficiency when compared to the other groups. Glucose, triglycerides, total proteins, and globulins increased significantly in fish fed with 8 g kg-1 of extract, whereas albumin decreased. The number of thrombocytes increased significantly with the dietary supplementation of 8 and 12 g kg-1 of extract. After the challenge with A. hydrophila and handling stress, fish fed with 8 g kg-1 of extract had significantly higher levels of glucose, globulins, and albumins, and fish fed with 8 and 12 g kg-1 of extract showed an increment of respiratory burst. Triglyceride levels dropped significantly in fish fed with 4, 8, and 12 g kg-1 of extract, whereas the number of neutrophils increased, and total thrombocytes, leukocytes and lymphocytes were higher in fish fed with 12 g kg-1 of extract. Dietary supplementation with M. alliacea extract at 8 g kg-1 was efficient in improving the growth and innate immunity of A. gigas, being potentially useful in fish farming to control the development of A. hydrophila infections.

RESUMO Investigou-se os efeitos da suplementação com extrato hidroalcólico de Mansoa alliacea sobre o crescimento e parâmetros sanguíneos e imunológicos de Arapaima gigas. Os peixes foram alimentados por 30 dias com dietas enriquecidas com 0, 4, 8 e 12 g kg-1 de extrato hidroalcoólico de M. alliacea e submetidos à infecção por Aeromonas hydrophila e estresse de manejo. Os peixes alimentados com 8 g kg-1 de extrato apresentaram aumento significativo no peso final, taxa de crescimento específico e eficiência alimentar quando comparados aos demais grupos. Glicose, triglicerídeos, proteínas totais e globulinas aumentaram significativamente nos peixes alimentados com 8 g kg-1 de extrato, enquanto a albumina diminuiu. O número de trombócitos aumentou significativamente com a suplementação dietética de 8 e 12 g kg-1 de extrato. Após infecção com A. hydrophila e estresse de manejo, os peixes alimentados com 8 g kg-1 de extrato apresentaram níveis significativamente mais altos de glicose, globulinas e albuminas, e os peixes alimentados com 8 e 12 g kg-1 de extrato apresentaram incremento de explosão respiratória. Os níveis de triglicerídeos decresceram nos peixes alimentados com 4, 8 e 12 g kg-1 de extrato, enquanto o número de neutrófilos aumentou, e o número total de trombócitos, leucócitos e linfócitos foi maior nos peixes alimentados com 12 g kg-1 de extrato. A suplementação com a 8 g kg-1 de extrato de M. alliacea foi eficiente em melhorar o crescimento e a imunidade inata de A. gigas, sendo potencialmente útil na piscicultura para controlar o desenvolvimento de infecções por A. hydrophila.
