Abstract: At the urban margins, material precariousness and spatial segregation shape the lives of the poorest. Some studies highlight the role of the neoliberal state in producing these problems. This qualitative investigation carried out in the outskirts of Santiago de Chile analyzes the narratives and practices that shape neoliberal policies in the field of housing and education. The results show that public policies mobilize formal and informal territorial practices that, in an ambivalent way, manage poverty through an assistance-based approach and at the same time seek to produce subjects responsible for their own development and well-being.

Resumen: En los márgenes urbanos, la precariedad material y la segregación espacial moldean la vida de los más pobres. Algunos estudios destacan el rol que ha tenido el Estado neoliberal en su producción. En esta investigación, mediante un estudio cualitativo realizado en la periferia de Santiago de Chile, se indaga en las narrativas y las prácticas que configuran las políticas neoliberales en el campo de la vivienda y la educación. Los resultados muestran que las políticas públicas movilizan prácticas territoriales formales e informales que, de manera ambivalente, gestionan asistencialmente la pobreza al mismo tiempo que buscan producir sujetos responsables de su desarrollo y bienestar.

Abstract: Prejudices about old age transcend different spheres of everyday life, with eroticism and sexuality being dimensions that are socially associated with a restriction of pleasure and enjoyment, mainly due to cultural changes that restrict this stage being considered from a sexual point of view. However, the exercise of erotic-sexual capacities acquires a relevant place in life experiences, as it is related to the right to live an old age in greater plenitude. The different visions of the erotic life of this age group are produced and reproduced in the social fabric through different media, with the cinema, given its massiveness and creative capacity, being an important space for recognising the construction of representations that operate on a social level. In this regard, this documentary study addresses the eroticism of older people in contemporary Chilean cinema, describing three dominant social representations: ‘The dirty old man: conquering a young person’; ‘Old men who remember: the eroticism that comes from the past’; and ‘Old Seductresses: in search of male desire’. The representations show a greater permissiveness in terms of the expression and experience of eroticism in older men, while women’s experience is subordinated to the dominant male desire. Nevertheless, through film, it is revealed as a possibility for older women to move towards a position of greater autonomy and independence in the experience of their sexuality.

Resumen: Los prejuicios sobre la vejez trascienden distintas esferas de la cotidianeidad, siendo el erotismo y la sexualidad dimensiones que socialmente se asocian a una restricción del placer y el goce, principalmente por los cambios culturales que restringen que esta etapa sea considerada desde la sexualidad. Sin embargo, el ejercicio de las capacidades erótico-sexuales adquiere un lugar relevante en las experiencias de vida, pues se relaciona con el derecho a vivir una vejez en mayor plenitud. Las distintas visiones sobre la vida erótica de este grupo etario se producen y reproducen en el entramado social por distintos medios, siendo el cine, dada su masividad y su capacidad creativa, un espacio importante para reconocer la construcción de representaciones que operan a nivel social. Al respecto, el presente estudio documental aborda el erotismo de las personas mayores en el cine chileno contemporáneo, describiendo tres representaciones sociales dominantes: ‘El viejo verde: conquistando a una persona joven’; ‘Viejos/as que recuerdan: el erotismo que deviene del pasado’; y ‘Viejas Seductoras: en la búsqueda del deseo masculino’. Las representaciones dan cuenta de una mayor permisividad en cuanto a la expresión y vivencia del erotismo en el hombre mayor, mientras que la experiencia de las mujeres se ve supeditada al deseo masculino dominante. No obstante, a través del cine se revela como una posibilidad de vida el que las mujeres mayores puedan transitar hacia una posición de mayor autonomía e independencia para vivir su sexualidad.

Abstract Introduction: currently, various tools have been designed to timely detect the risk of malnutrition in hospitalized children. In those with a diagnosis of congenital heart disease (CHD), there is only one tool developed in Canada: Infant Malnutrition and Feeding Checklist for Congenital Heart Disease (IMFC:CHD), which was designed in English. Objective: to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Spanish adaptation of the IMFC:CHD tool in infants with CHD. Methods: cross-sectional validation study carried out in two stages. The first, of translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the tool, and the second, of validation of the new translated tool, where evidence of reliability and validity were obtained. Results: in the first stage, the tool was translated and adapted to the Spanish language; for the second stage, 24 infants diagnosed with CHD were included. The concurrent criterion validity between the screening tool and the anthropometric evaluation was evaluated, obtaining a substantial agreement (κ = 0.660, 95 % CI: 0.36-0.95) and for the predictive criterion validity, which was compared with the days of hospital stay, moderate agreement was obtained (κ = 0.489, 95 % CI: 0.1-0.8). The reliability of the tool was evaluated through external consistency, measuring the inter-observer agreement, obtaining a substantial agreement (κ = 0.789, 95 % CI: 0.5-0.9), and the reproducibility of the tool showed an almost perfect agreement (κ = 1, CI 95 %: 0.9-1.0). Conclusions: the IMFC:CHD tool showed adequate validity and reliability, and could be considered as a useful resource for the identification of severe malnutrition.

Resumen Introducción: actualmente, se han diseñado diversas herramientas para detectar oportunamente el riesgo de desnutrición en niños hospitalizados. En aquellos con diagnóstico de cardiopatías congénitas (CC), solo existe una herramienta desarrollada en Canadá, llamada Infant Malnutrition and Feeding Checklist for Congenital Heart Disease (IMFC:CHD), la cual fue diseñada en idioma inglés. Objetivo: evaluar la validez y confiabilidad de la adaptación en español de la herramienta IMFC:CHD en lactantes con CC. Métodos: estudio transversal de validación realizado en dos etapas: la primera, de traducción y adaptación transcultural de la herramienta; y la segunda, de validación de la nueva herramienta traducida, donde se obtuvieron las evidencias de confiabilidad y validez. Resultados: en la primera etapa se obtuvo la herramienta traducida y adaptada al idioma español; para la segunda etapa se incluyeron 24 lactantes con diagnóstico de CC. Se evaluó la validez de criterio concurrente entre la herramienta de tamizaje y la evaluación antropométrica, obteniéndose un acuerdo sustancial (κ = 0,660, IC 95 %: 0,36-0,95). Para la validez de criterio predictiva, la cual fue comparada con los días de estancia hospitalaria, se obtuvo un acuerdo moderado (κ = 0,489, IC 95 %: 0,1-0,8). La confiabilidad de la herramienta se evaluó mediante consistencia externa, midiendo la concordancia interobservador, y se obtuvo un acuerdo sustancial (κ = 0,789, IC 95 %: 0,5-0,9); la reproducibilidad de la herramienta mostró un acuerdo casi perfecto (κ = 1, IC 95 %: 0,9-1,0). Conclusiones: la herramienta IMFC:CHD mostró una adecuada validez y confiabilidad, por lo que podría considerarse un recurso útil para la identificación de desnutrición grave.

Resumen De acuerdo con la FAO, aproximadamente un tercio de la producción mundial de alimentos se pierde o desperdicia. Estos desperdicios reducen la disponibilidad de alimentos para la población, incrementan sus precios y generan problemas de contaminación ambiental. Un problema común en los países en desarrollo es la escasez de datos acerca de la cantidad, causas y usos de las pérdidas de alimentos. En este trabajo se realizó la cuantificación, por etapas de siembra, de las pérdidas de melón cantaloupe, sus causas y usos en los eslabones de producción, empaque y transportación en una región del norte-centro de México conocida como la Comarca Lagunera. Esta región es la mayor productora de melón cantaloupe de México con una superficie de más de 4 565 ha y una producción de 165 663 t. Se aplicó, de manera presencial, un cuestionario estructurado a una muestra estadística de 47 productores y ocho empacadores. Se encontró que las pérdidas, tanto en producción como en los empaques, varían de acuerdo con la etapa de siembra, con mayores pérdidas en las siembras tardías, seguido por las tempranas e intermedias. Las principales causas de las pérdidas son el tamaño de fruto inadecuado (pequeño o muy grande), deforme, excesiva madurez, manchado y con rajaduras. El producto que se desperdicia en la huerta es destinado a la alimentación de animales domésticos o como abono a la tierra; mientras que el que se desecha en los empaques se revende a pequeños intermediarios locales para su comercialización y para la alimentación de animales domésticos.

Abstract According to FAO, about one-third of global food production is lost or wasted. This waste reduces the availability of foods for the population, increases their prices and generates problems of environmental pollution. A common problem in developing countries is the scarcity of data on the quantity, causes and uses of food losses. In this work, the quantification, by sowing stages, of the losses of cantaloupe melon, their causes and uses in the links of production, packaging and transportation in a region of North-Central Mexico known as the Comarca Lagunera was carried out. This region is the largest producer of cantaloupe melon in Mexico, with an area of more than 4 565 ha and a production of 165 663 t. A structured questionnaire was applied in person to a statistical sample of 47 producers and eight packers. It was found that losses, both in production and packaging, vary according to the sowing stage, with greater losses in late sowings, followed by early and intermediate sowings. The main causes of losses are inadequate fruit size (small or very large), deformed, overripe, spotted and cracked. The product that is wasted in the orchard is destined to feed domestic animals or as fertilizer to the land; while the one that is discarded in the packaging centers is resold to small local intermediaries for commercialization and for the feeding of domestic animals.

Abstract The high nutritional value of brassicas can increase productivity in traditional forage production systems. The objective of the study was to compare the nutritional value and yield of dry matter (DM) and nutrients between forage brassicas and traditional autumn-winter species. The forage brassicas were Winfred, Hunter and Graza radish and the traditional forages were oats, triticale, barley, wheat and berseem clover. The study was conducted in Matamoros, Coahuila, Mexico in the 2018-2019 cycle, under a randomized complete block experimental design with four repetitions. The regrowth capacity, the nutritional composition of the forage and the yields of DM and nutrients were determined. All species showed regrowth capacity, with three cuts in berseem clover in 154 d, and with two cuts in brassicas (150-154 d) and cereals (133-144 d). The brassicas had nutritional composition similar to that of berseem clover and better than that of cereals, mainly due to their higher content of net energy of lactation (NEL; 6.57 to 7.32 MJ kg-1 DM). The DM yields of the brassicas were similar to those observed in traditional forages; however, due to their high nutritional composition, the brassicas were equal to or superior in production of crude protein (CP) (1,608 to 2,986 kg ha-1) and NEL (62,819 to 84,044 MJ ha-1) to traditional forages. In general, forage brassicas can increase nutrient yield with respect to cereals and berseem clover, especially in the production of NEL (27.5 to 47.3 %).

Resumen El alto valor nutritivo de las brásicas puede incrementar la productividad en los sistemas de producción de forrajes tradicionales. El objetivo del estudio fue comparar el valor nutricional y el rendimiento de materia seca (MS) y nutrientes entre brásicas forrajeras y especies tradicionales de otoño-invierno. Las brásicas forrajeras fueron Winfred, Hunter y rábano Graza y los forrajes tradicionales fueron avena, triticale, cebada, trigo y el trébol Alejandrino. El estudio se realizó en Matamoros, Coahuila, México en el ciclo 2018-2019, bajo un diseño experimental de bloques completos al azar con cuatro repeticiones. Se determinó la capacidad de rebrote, la composición nutricional del forraje y los rendimientos de MS y nutrientes. Todas las especies presentaron capacidad de rebrote, con tres cortes en trébol Alejandrino en 154 días, y con dos cortes en brásicas (150-154 días) y cereales (133-144 días). Las brásicas presentaron similar composición nutricional al trébol Alejandrino y mejor al de los cereales, principalmente por su mayor contenido de energía neta para lactancia (ENL; 6.57 a 7.32 MJ kg-1 MS). Los rendimientos de MS de las brásicas fueron similares a los observados en los forrajes tradicionales; sin embargo, por su alta composición nutricional las brásicas fueron iguales o superiores en producción de proteína cruda (PC) (1,608 a 2,986 kg ha-1) y ENL (62,819 a 84,044 MJ ha-1) a los forrajes tradicionales. En general, las brásicas forrajeras pueden incrementar el rendimiento de nutrientes respecto a los cereales y al trébol Alejandrino, especialmente en la producción de ENL (27.5 a 47.3 %).

Abstract Background Despite representing the largest fraction of animal life, the number of insect species whose genome has been sequenced is barely in the hundreds. The order Dermaptera (the earwigs) suffers from a lack of genomic information despite its unique position as one of the basally derived insect groups and its importance in agroecosystems. As part of a national educational and outreach program in genomics, a plan was formulated to engage the participation of high school students in a genome sequencing project. Students from twelve schools across Chile were instructed to capture earwig specimens in their geographical area, to identify them and to provide material for genome sequencing to be carried out by themselves in their schools. Results The school students collected specimens from two cosmopolitan earwig species: Euborellia annulipes (Fam. Anisolabididae) and Forficula auricularia (Fam. Forficulidae). Genomic DNA was extracted and, with the help of scientific teams that traveled to the schools, was sequenced using nanopore sequencers. The sequence data obtained for both species was assembled and annotated. We obtained genome sizes of 1.18 Gb (F. auricularia) and 0.94 Gb (E. annulipes) with the number of predicted protein coding genes being 31,800 and 40,000, respectively. Our analysis showed that we were able to capture a high percentage (≥ 93%) of conserved proteins indicating genomes that are useful for comparative and functional analysis. We were also able to characterize structural elements such as repetitive sequences and non-coding RNA genes. Finally, functional categories of genes that are overrepresented in each species suggest important differences in the process underlying the formation of germ cells, and modes of reproduction between them, features that are one of the distinguishing biological properties that characterize these two distant families of Dermaptera. Conclusions This work represents an unprecedented instance where the scientific and lay community have come together to collaborate in a genome sequencing project. The versatility and accessibility of nanopore sequencers was key to the success of the initiative. We were able to obtain full genome sequences of two important and widely distributed species of insects which had not been analyzed at this level previously. The data made available by the project should illuminate future studies on the Dermaptera.

Abstract The interest in understanding the role of the university teacher in today’s society implies analyzing the didactic decisions that guide their work for the development of professional, social and technological skills. In this framework, the present study aimed to identify the scientific production related to the application of didactic models, mediated by Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), in the context of university education. Through a mixed analysis, with the application of qualitative and quantitative methodologies, a search was carried out from the five moments of the systematic review process, where a total of eighty-nine articles published in different high-impact journals were obtained. The results show the effort of teachers to implement some models based on the use of ICT resources and tools, compared to the poor command of didactic and technological skills for the construction of this type of strategy. Within a pragmatic perspective of education, this article proposes the challenges assumed by teachers to reformulate their practices, amid the dynamics of a transhumanist world located in the new ecology of knowledge. In this way, the different sociocultural contexts would facilitate the transformation and solution of problems applied in the classroom.

Resumen El interés por comprender el rol del docente universitario en la sociedad actual implica analizar las decisiones didácticas que orientan su quehacer para el desarrollo de competencias profesionales, sociales y tecnológicas. En este marco, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo identificar la producción científica relacionada con la aplicación de modelos didácticos, mediados por las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC), en el contexto de la enseñanza universitaria. A través de un análisis mixto, con la aplicación de metodologías cualitativas y cuantitativas, se realizó una búsqueda desde los cinco momentos del proceso de revisión sistemática, donde se obtuvo un total de ochenta y nueve artículos publicados en diferentes revistas de alto impacto. Los resultados evidencian el esfuerzo del profesorado por implementar algunos modelos basados en el uso de recursos y herramientas TIC, frente al escaso dominio de las competencias didácticas y tecnológicas para la construcción de este tipo de estrategias. Dentro de una perspectiva pragmática de la educación, en este artículo se proponen los desafíos asumidos por los docentes para reformular sus prácticas, en medio de las dinámicas de un mundo transhumanista ubicado en la nueva ecología del conocimiento. De esta forma, los diferentes contextos socioculturales facilitarían la transformación y solución de problemas aplicados en el aula de clase.

Abstract This study establishes the serological frequency against Neospora caninum on day zero and the presence of N. caninum DNA surveyed throughout the gestation of Bubalus bubalis females in a bovine buffalo system in the central zone of the state of Veracruz, Mexico. Blood samples were taken from 11 females in 6 different sampling periods and analyzed for N. caninum antibodies detection on day zero. DNA detection by PCR was performed on all sampling periods. The gestation months of the females were recorded for five trimesters by ultrasonography, as well as births and pregnancy losses. Recorded seropositivity and positivity for agent DNA were 90.9% (95% CI 58.7-9.7) and 36.3% (95% CI 10.9-69.2), respectively, on day zero. N. caninum DNA was detected between 18.1% (95% CI 2.3-51.7) and 45.4% (95% CI 16.7-76.6) over the five trimesters of observation, with three births and three abortions recorded. The studied water buffalo population had a high presence of N. caninum antibodies; however, the detection of N. caninum DNA remained below 47% in the females. The association was only observed in the detection of DNA with pregnant females (P 0.007). Our results support the hypothesis of the resistance of water buffaloes to infection and the onset of clinical signs against infection by N. caninum even upon a high possibility of infection and reinfection described in this production system in Mexico.

Resumen El constructo de desvinculación moral tiene implicaciones muy importantes en el estudio de diversos fenómenos psicosociales. Ante la ausencia del análisis de las propiedades psicométricas de la escala de desvinculación moral de Bandura en población mexicana, el objetivo de esta investigación fue la obtención de evidencias de validez factorial y confiabilidad de dicha escala. Como hipótesis central de esta investigación, se consideró que la escala podría mantener las dimensiones estructurales reportadas en la versión original, así como la fusión de los ocho mecanismos propuestos por Bandura en un factor de segundo orden. La muestra estuvo conformada por 480 estudiantes universitarios de tres instituciones públicas de nivel superior. Los resultados mostraron que el modelo con una estructura de primer orden en su versión adaptada al español, incluyendo los 32 reactivos propuestos originalmente, presentó características psicométricas adecuadas; sin embargo, el modelo de segundo orden mostró una mejor variabilidad observada en las puntuaciones de 27 reactivos. Además, todos los reactivos tuvieron un valor adecuado con respecto a los índices de bondad de ajuste, así como una suficiente variabilidad explicada tanto en las mujeres como en los hombres. El análisis de fiabilidad de esta escala indica que posee una elevada consistencia interna (α = .89). Con base en estas evidencias, se concluyó que esta escala es un instrumento válido y fiable para evaluar la desvinculación moral en la población general.

Abstract The construct of moral disengagement has relevant consequences in the study of several psychosocial phenomena. Due to the lack of the psychometric characteristics of the Bandura’s Moral Disengagement Scale among Mexican populations, the purpose of this research was to examine the scale’s factorial validity and reliability. As a core hypothesis, it was considered that this scale could keep the structural dimensions reported in the original version as well as the combination of the eight mechanisms proposed by Bandura in a second order factor. The sample included 480 undergraduate students from three public universities. Results showed that the model with a first order factor structure in its version adapted to Spanish, including the original 32 items, revealed acceptable psychometric characteristics; however, the second order model showed a better variability in the scores of the 27 items. All items had an appropriate value regarding the goodness-of-fit indices, as well as an appropriate explained variability both in women and in men. The reliability of this scale revealed an internal consistency (α = .89). In conclusion, this scale is a valid and reliable instrument to measure moral disengagement in the general population.

Abstract Mexico is a honey-producing country, paradoxically, its per capita consumption is low compared to European countries. The objective was to make a typology of honey consumers in Mexico with a minimum educational level of bachelor’s degree in ages from 20 to 60 years and to determine their socioeconomic characteristics and aspects that motivate consumption. A questionnaire was applied to a sample of 1,003 honey consumers who met the conditions of age and school level. The information was analyzed using cluster and discriminant analysis. Three types of consumers were identified: 1) educated consumers with average income (34.4 %), they were those who consume honey frequently, have extensive knowledge about beekeeping by-products and honey properties, prefer to buy the product from beekeepers; 2) highly educated consumers with high income (25.8 %), most of them have postgraduate degrees and receive income greater than $5,000 per week, they were people of mature age and with moderate consumption of honey, a third of this group only know honey, have knowledge of its properties and qualities, they are indifferent to the place of purchase; and 3) educated consumers with low income (39.8 %), it grouped young consumers who only have a bachelor’s degree, their consumption is moderate, they prefer to buy the product in markets. The groups of consumers formed provide information on a segment of the honey market in Mexico, it is necessary to continue conducting research on issues related to consumption and preference of honey consumers in Mexico.

Resumen México es un país productor de miel, paradójicamente, su consumo per cápita es bajo comparado con los países europeos. El objetivo fue realizar una tipología a consumidores de miel en México con nivel educativo mínimo de licenciatura en edades de 20 a 60 años y determinar sus características socioeconómicas y aspectos que motivan el consumo. Se aplicó un cuestionario a una muestra de 1,003 consumidores de miel que cumplieran con las condiciones de edad y nivel escolar. La información se analizó mediante análisis de conglomerados y discriminante. Se identificaron tres tipos de consumidores: 1) consumidores educados con ingresos promedio (34.4 %), fueron los que consumen miel frecuentemente, tienen un amplio conocimiento sobre los subproductos de la apicultura y propiedades de la miel, prefieren comprar el producto con los apicultores; 2) consumidores altamente educados con ingresos altos (25.8 %), en su mayoría tienen posgrado y reciben ingresos mayores a $5,000 semanales, fueron personas en edad madura y con consumo moderado de miel, una tercera parte de este grupo solo conocen la miel, tienen conocimiento de sus propiedades y cualidades, les es indiferente el lugar de compra; y 3) consumidores educados con ingreso bajo (39.8 %), agrupó a consumidores jóvenes que solo tienen nivel de licenciatura, su consumo es moderado, prefieren comprar el producto en mercados. Los grupos de consumidores conformados brindan información sobre un segmento del mercado de la miel en México, es necesario continuar realizando investigaciones sobre temas referentes a consumo y preferencia de los consumidores de miel en México.

ABSTRACT Introduction. The behavior of COVID-19 is influenced by diverse social differentials that transcend demographic variables and include morbidity, the conditions of their homes, family dynamics, job performance, gender roles and stereotypes, care tasks, habits, and behaviors of life and consumption, among others. Methods. Statistical and demographic analysis and tools of metric studies of the information were used. Results and Discussion. The research showed the importance of incorporating into the analysis of the behavior of COVID-19 in Cuba the influence of social and epidemiological differentials determined by skin color, marital status, employment status, income levels, types of families, mobility, hygienic environmental conditions, access to health services, among others, which can place populations in greater or lesser conditions of vulnerability. Conclusions: The composition and dynamics of the population together with other social differentials are determinants of the behavior and expression of the pandemic. The crossing of epidemiological factors with the analysis of containment measures and the composition and structure of the affected population allows for the design of health policies that are more adjusted to the needs of the pandemic. Distance psychological counseling makes it possible to identify and deal with situations related to confinement and changes in life routines that affect the mental health of different groups of people.

RESUMEN Introducción. El comportamiento de la COVID-19 está influenciado por diferenciales sociales que trascienden las variables demográficas e incluyen la morbilidad, las condiciones de sus viviendas, las dinámicas familiares, el desempeño laboral, los roles y estereotipos de género, las tareas de cuidado, los hábitos y comportamientos de vida y consumo, entre otros. Métodos. Se empleó el análisis estadístico y demográfico y herramientas de los estudios métricos. Resultados y Discusión. La investigación mostró la importancia de incorporar a los análisis del comportamiento de la COVID-19 en Cuba la influencia de diferenciales sociales y epidemiológicos determinados por el color de la piel, el estado conyugal, la situación laboral, los niveles de ingreso, los tipos de familias, la movilidad, las condiciones higiénico ambientales, el acceso a los servicios de salud, entre otros, que pueden ubicar a las poblaciones en mayores o menores condiciones de vulnerabilidad. Conclusiones, la composición y la dinámica de la población junto a otros diferenciales sociales son determinantes del comportamiento de la pandemia. El cruzamiento de los factores epidemiológicos con el análisis de las medidas de contención y la composición y estructura de población afectada permite diseñar políticas sanitarias más ajustadas a las necesidades de la pandemia. La orientación psicológica a distancia permite identificar y atender situaciones vinculadas al confinamiento y los cambios en las rutinas de vida que afectan la salud mental de diferentes grupos de personas.

Abstract Background: The plant community in southern Texas and the adjacent region in Mexico is Tamaulipan thornscrub (MET). However, the recently published proposals for quantitative hierarchical classification have evidenced the presence of more communities and the need for quantitative descriptions of these associations to determine their conservation status. Question: What is the structure and floristic composition of a semi-thorn shrubland in Reynosa’s northwestern region? Studied species: Tamaulipan low semi-thorn scrubland. Study site and dates: Hills in Reynosa’s northwestern region (Tamaulipas), Mexico. August 2018-July 2019. Methods: Abundance, height and coverage of each plant species were measured on 33 plots of 10 × 10 m. Horizontal structure was analyzed by Importance Value Index, vertical structure was estimated through a modification of the Pretzsch Index and in addition alpha diversity indices were calculated. Results: Richness was 55 species, within 54 genera and 25 families. The importance values were centered mainly in small, spineless shrub species (Lippia graveolens, Calliandra conferta, Turnera diffusa and Krameria ramosissima). The vertical structure presented four defined strata with 50 % of species equally represented in all strata and the remaining 50 % restricted to a single stratum (A = 2.86, Amax = 5.39, Arel = 52.98 %). The species with the highest proportional density were distributed only in stratum IV (0-1.12 m). Conclusions: The community is a clearly defined low semi-thorn scrubland. The structural characteristics indicate that it can be a possible transition plant association between MET and piedmont scrub. This reinforces the proposals of the recently published classification systems.

Resumen Antecedentes: La vegetación del sur de Texas y la región adyacente de México es el matorral espinoso tamaulipeco (MET). Sin embargo, los sistemas de clasificación jerárquicos cuantitativos recientes evidencian la presencia de más comunidades y la necesidad de descripciones cuantitativas para conocer su estado actual. Preguntas: ¿Cómo es la estructura y composición florística de un matorral subinerme en el noreste de México? Especies de estudio: Especies de un matorral bajo subinerme. Sitio y años de estudio: Lomeríos del noreste de México (Reynosa, Tamaulipas). Agosto 2018-julio 2019. Métodos: Se midió la abundancia, altura y cobertura de cada especie en 33 parcelas de 10 × 10 m. La estructura horizontal se analizó mediante el IVI, la vertical mediante una modificación del Índice de Pretzsch, además de calcularse índices de diversidad alfa. Resultados: La riqueza fue de 55 especies, 54 géneros y 25 familias. El valor de importancia se concentró principalmente en los de arbustos pequeños inermes (Lippia graveolens, Calliandra conferta, Turnera diffusa y Krameria ramosissima). La estructura vertical presentó cuatro estratos definidos con 50 % de las especies representadas en todos los estratos y el resto se restringió a un solo estrato (A = 2.86, Amax = 5.39, Arel = 52.98 %). Las especies con mayor densidad proporcional se distribuyeron solo en el estrato IV (0 a 1.12 m). Conclusiones: La comunidad corresponde a un matorral bajo subinerme claramente definido. La estructura indica un posible matorral de transición entre MET y matorral submontano. Esto refuerza las propuestas de clasificación recientemente publicadas.

Resumen Una mayor diversidad de forrajes en otoño-invierno incrementa la entrada de carbono (C) y nitrógeno (N) al suelo en los residuos de cosecha. El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar el aporte potencial de C y N al suelo en los residuos de forrajes alternativos y tradicionales durante el ciclo otoño-invierno. En el experimento se evaluó el rendimiento de materia seca (MS), cantidad de residuos y la relación C/N en 11 especies forrajeras. Los cultivos tradicionales avena, cebada, triticale, trigo, trébol Alejandrino y ballico anual aportaron menor cantidad de residuos de cosecha (365 a 612 kg ha-1) y de menor calidad con valores de la relación C/N de 23.5 a 42.8. Los cultivos alternativos canola, remolacha, brásicas, rábano y garbanzo aportaron mayor cantidad de residuos (432 a 2 958 kg ha-1), con mayores contenidos de N (18.5 a 32.6 g kg-1) y menores valores de la relación C/N (11.4 a 20). Los cultivos alternativos con raíces engrosadas como remolacha, brásicas y rábano mejoraron la cantidad y calidad de aportación de residuos de cosecha, con una capacidad potencial de captura de C similar a los cultivos tradicionales. Sin embargo, sólo la brásica Winfred y el rábano Graza obtuvieron rendimientos de MS (10 094 a 11 636 kg ha-1) similares o mayores a los observados en los cereales testigo avena Cuauhtémoc (11 161 kg ha-1) y triticale AN105 (9 644 kg ha-1). Una mayor diversidad de forrajes puede mejorar en cantidad y calidad la aportación de residuos de cosecha al suelo.

Abstract A greater diversity of forages in autumn-winter increases the input of carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) into the soil in the harvest residues. The objective of the study was to evaluate the potential contribution of C and N to the soil in alternative and traditional forage residues during the autumn-winter cycle. The experiment evaluated the dry matter (DM) yield, quantity of residues and C/N ratio in 11 forage species. The traditional crops oats, barley, triticale, wheat, berseem clover and annual ryegrass contributed less harvest residues (365 to 612 kg ha-1) and of lower quality, with values of the C/N ratio of 23.5 to 42.8. Alternative crops canola, beet, brassicas, radish and chickpea contributed more residues (432 to 2 958 kg ha-1), with higher N contents (18.5 to 32.6 g kg-1) and lower values of the C/N ratio (11.4 to 20). Alternative crops with thickened roots such as beet, brassica and radish improved the quantity and quality of harvest residue contribution, with a potential C capture capacity similar to traditional crops. However, only Winfred brassica and Graza radish obtained DM yields (10 094 to 11 636 kg ha-1) similar to or greater than those observed in the control cereals Cuauhtémoc oats (11 161 kg ha-1) and AN105 triticale (9 644 kg ha-1). A greater diversity of forages can improve in quantity and quality the contribution of harvest residues to the soil.
