Abstract Experimental trials were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of mulching with carnauba bagana, a by-product of wax extraction from Copernicia prunifera leaves, on the establishment of 32 shrub and tree species in the Caatinga region. The evaluations were made in areas degraded by mining and embankment of piçarra. Treated plants received 10 L of carnauba mulch in the crown of planted seedlings, while control plants received no mulch. After 24 months, mulching of carnauba improved the growth or survival of eight of the 32 species, while worsening that of two species. Specifically, mulching increased (p<0.05) the survival of Pseudobombax marginatum and Peltophorum dubium, and the height and canopy area of Anadenanthera colubrina, Bauhinia cheilantha, Copernicia prunifera, Hymenaea courbaril, Mimosa caesalpiniifolia and Senna spectabilis. The results demonstrate that the carnauba-based mulch can be directed to the species that responded positively, with the goal of improving establishment and growth in degraded areas of the region.

Resumo Em áreas degradadas pela remoção de horizontes superficiais do solo, como as áreas de empréstimo, poucas são as espécies vegetais capazes de se desenvolver sem a aplicação de elevadas doses de fertilizantes. As plantas da família Leguminosae, fixadoras de nitrogênio, estão entre essas poucas, visto que possibilitam rápida cobertura do solo e a estruturação do ambiente para um avanço sucessional. Em 1989, no campo experimental da Embrapa Agrobiologia, Seropédica - RJ, realizou-se a revegetação de uma área de empréstimo de argila, com espécies dessa família, noduladas e micorrizadas. Após 25 anos do plantio, avaliaram-se a fertilidade, o estoque de serrapilheira e o banco de sementes do solo, com ênfase nas espécies não arbóreas. O uso de leguminosas arbóreas mostrou-se eficaz, depositando elevada quantidade de serrapilheira e assim melhorando a fertilidade do solo, o que acarretou a ativação dos mecanismos de sucessão natural. Foram identificados no banco de sementes do solo 37 espécies/morfotipos de 16 famílias. Desse total, 25 eram não arbóreas, sendo 16 nativas e 9 naturalizadas. O estudo leva a uma reflexão sobre a necessidade de se dar mais importância a outras guildas da floresta, em projetos de restauração, mesmo considerando o sucesso das leguminosas arbóreas na catálise do processo de sucessão ecológica.

Abstract In highly degraded areas such as degraded land, human intervention is critical so that the environment can recover its ecological functions. One of the techniques used for this process is the use of leguminous trees associated with microorganisms. Ecologically, these species are distinguished by associating symbiotically with nitrogen-fixing bacteria and mycorrhizal fungi. This alliance enables a significant improvement of the plant’s nutritional status, accelerating the process of ecological succession and thus contributing to the area’s restoration. Given this knowledge, in 1989, began the revegetation of a clay loan area with seedlings nodulated and mycorrhizal legume trees. As such, this study aims to assess the ecological succession of a degraded land located in the experimental field of Embrapa Agrobiologia, Seropédica - RJ. Therefore, we evaluated the seed bank and the stock of litter. The use of leguminous trees has proved its effectiveness in activating the mechanisms of natural succession. Twenty-five years after planting legumes, 37 species of 16 botanical families emerged, besides the improvement of soil fertility and supply of litter. The study reflects the need to give more importance to other forest guilds in restoration projects, even considering the success of tree legumes in the catalysis of the ecological succession process.

Resumo Este trabalho avaliou a regeneração natural em área plantada há 13 anos com diferentes proporções de leguminosas fixadoras de nitrogênio. O plantio foi realizado em 2001, em pastagem abandonada, em Valença, sul do estado do Rio de Janeiro, com seis espécies florestais arbóreas não nodulantes, consorciadas com sete espécies leguminosas arbóreas nodulantes, de forma a estabelecer quatro proporções de leguminosas (30, 50, 65 e 80%) na composição botânica inicial. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos ao acaso, com três repetições em parcelas de 940 m2. Em 2014, foram avaliados indivíduos regenerantes (≥ 60 cm) dentro de cada parcela e as espécies foram identificadas e classificadas quanto ao hábito de crescimento, grupo ecológico e síndrome de dispersão. Quantificou-se densidade absoluta, frequências absoluta e relativa e os índices de diversidade de Shannon e de equabilidade de Pielou. Foram encontradas 37 espécies que não haviam sido plantadas inicialmente. Somente três, das 13 espécies plantadas estiveram presentes no banco de plântulas. A maioria das espécies regenerantes eram arbóreas, pioneiras, com hábito de dispersão por zoocoria. O plantio misto com leguminosas arbóreas nodulantes é eficaz na ativação do processo de sucessão ecológica, uma vez que garante um alto recrutamento de espécies nativas regenerantes, com destaque para a composição botânica com 50 e 65%.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the ecological succession under different proportions of nitrogen-fixing trees intercropped with non-nitrogen fixing trees species through the understory floristic survey. A randomized block design with four treatments and three replications was conducted for 13 years with 30, 50, 65, and 80% of nitrogen-fixing trees in the whole plants used per plot. Fixed subplots with 10 m x 10 m were installed at the experimental plots and evaluated all individuals with height ≥ 60 cm to carry out the floristic survey. The species were identified and classified according to growth habit, the successional class, and dispersion syndrome. The natural regeneration vertical structure was evaluated with the following indicators: absolute density, absolute frequency, and relative frequency, the horizontal structure with Shannon’s diversity index and Pielou’s equitability index. The survey founded 37 species that had not been planted initially. Only three of the 13 planted species were present in the seedling bank. It was identified a more significant presence of pioneer trees species with zoochoric dispersion in the four treatments understory, indicating that the species mixed allowed the activation of the natural succession process. Treatments with 50 and 65 % of nitrogen-fixing trees favoured the diversity of species.

RESUMO O aumento da demanda por mudas de espécies arbóreas nativas torna importante a determinação de suas necessidades hídricas e de luminosidade, que são fatores importantes na otimização dos custos e do tempo de produção. O uso e a produtividade da água no crescimento de mudas de Dalbergia nigra (Vell.) Allemão ex Benth., Apuleia leiocarpa (Vogel) J.F.Macbr e Hymenaea courbaril L. foram determinados em quatro níveis de luminosidade (três níveis de sombreamento e controle), utilizando delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. A altura, o diâmetro do coleto, a área foliar e a biomassa foram avaliadas, assim como o índice de qualidade de Dickson (IQD). As mudas foram transplantadas em tubetes de 280 cm3, preenchidos com biossólido puro, e irrigadas por gotejamento com manejo automático. Os maiores volumes totais aplicados 3,1 L por muda de D. nigra (com 37 e 58% de sombreamento), 2,5 L por muda de A. leiocarpa (37% de sombreamento) e 3,8 L por muda de H. courbaril (a pleno sol). Os índices de crescimento, confirmados pelo IQD, indicam que os sombreamentos de 37 e 58 % para D. nigra, 37 % para A. leiocarpa e a pleno sol para H. courbaril são os mais recomendados. Os maiores volumes de irrigação promoveram maior desenvolvimento das espécies, em geral com sombreamento intermediário, os quais proporcionaram os maiores valores de IQD e produtividade da água de irrigação.

ABSTRACT The increase in the demand for seedlings of native tree species makes it important to determine their water and light requirements, which are important factors in their production, in terms of costs and time. Water use and productivity in the growth of seedlings of Dalbergia nigra (Vell.) Allemão ex Benth., Apuleia leiocarpa (Vogel) J.F. Macbr and Hymenaea courbaril L. were determined under four light levels (three shading levels and control), using a randomized block design with four replicates. Height, stem diameter, leaf area and biomass, as well as Dickson quality index (DQI) were evaluated. The seedlings were transplanted into 280-cm3 plugs, filled with substrate composed of pure biosolids, and irrigated by a drip system with automatic management. The highest total volumes applied were 3.1 L per D. nigra seedling (in 37 and 58% shading), 2.5 L per A. leiocarpa seedling (in 37% shading) and 3.8 L per H. courbaril seedling (in full sun). Growth indices, confirmed by the DQI, indicate that shading levels of 37 and 58% for D. nigra, 37% for A. leiocarpa, and full sun for H. courbaril are the most recommended. The highest volumes of irrigation promoted the greatest development of the species, in general for intermediate shading, which provided the highest values of DQI and irrigation water productivity.

Abstract Invasive exotic grasses are among the biggest obstacles to the success of reforestation projects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of the crowning with cardboard in suppressing the grasses Urochloa humidicola and Megathyrsus maximus aiming its use in reforestation areas. A field experiment was installed in a completely randomized design with two treatments consisted of crowning with cardboard and without crowning (control). The crowning with cardboard caused a progressive reduction of the biomass and was effective in causing senescence of both grasses in 80% or more of the crowning area between 20 and 50 days after the crowning (F test; p<0,05). These results demonstrate the effectiveness and potential of using the crowning with cardboard to control alien grass species in reforestation areas. This method brings as an innovation the possibility of placing cardboard directly on the grass after mowing, allowing greater simplicity and lower operating cost.

Abstract This study evaluated the production of Inga laurina (Sw.) Willd seedlings in 110 and 280 cm3 tube containers and growing doses (0, 3, 6 and 12 kg m-3) of controlled-release fertilizer (CRF) (15-09-12) and their performance at 5 and 12 months after outplanting. The experiment was conducted using a randomized split-plot design, in a 2 x 4 arrangement (tube volumes x CRF doses). Stabilized sewage sludge from urban origin was used as substrate. It was assessed growth and biomass of the seedlings in nursery, as well as survival and growth after outplanting. Containers of 280 cm3 and doses between 6 to 12 kg m-3 produced seedlings in less time, with higher growth and biomass. At 12 months after outplanting, seedlings presented acceptable growth and mortality rate with doses equal or greater than 6 and 3 kg m-3 of CRF, respectively, for the 110 and 280 cm3 tube.

Resumo O trabalho objetivou acompanhar a colonização da comunidade da fauna edáfica, como indicador de qualidade de ambiente, após a revegetação de áreas alteradas pela atividade de mineração de bauxita, em Porto Trombetas, Pará. As amostragens foram realizadas nos anos 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 e 2008 em plantios de diferentes idades, e com diferentes arranjos de espécies, majoritariamente nativas do bioma, implantadas sobre subsolo com e sem adição de solo superficial. Os organismos da fauna edáfica foram capturados em armadilhas do tipo pitfall e triados no laboratório. Os parâmetros usados para avaliação foram a abundância, a riqueza, os índices de diversidade de Shannon e Equabilidade de Pielou e o padrão de colonização dos indivíduos da fauna do solo. De modo geral, em todos os plantios sobre o estéril, os grupos que apareceram em maior abundância foram Collembola, Formicidae e Coleoptera. A idade do plantio e a adição de solo superficial foram fatores determinantes na recomposição da comunidade edáfica, que se mostrou mais intensa nos plantios mais antigos. Nessas áreas, o desenvolvimento da vegetação levou à maior colonização e à melhor estruturação da comunidade de fauna edáfica, aumentando sua diversidade e o restabelecimento de processos ecológicos.

Abstract This research aims to observe the colonization process of edaphic fauna community after the revegetation of degraded areas by bauxite miningin Porto Trombetas, Pará state, Brazil. The soil fauna samples were collected in the years of 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2008, in different reforestation stages, and planted on subsoil with and without the addition of topsoil. The samplings were collected in pitfall traps and analyzed in laboratory. The evaluation parameters used were abundance, richness, the indexes of Shannon diversity and Pielou equability and the colonization pattern of individuals from the soil fauna. The planting age and the topsoil addition were determining factors in the restoration of the edaphic community, which was more intense in older plantings. In areas that went through older reforestation procedures, vegetation development has led to greater colonization and better structuring of the edaphic fauna community, increasing their diversity and restoring ecological processes.

Resumo A restauração florestal em áreas de pastagens, dominadas por Urochloa spp. (braquiárias), apresenta custo relativamente elevado, principalmente pela dificuldade de controle dessa planta infestante. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a forma de controle de braquiárias mais eficiente para a formação de povoamento para restauração florestal. Foram comparadas quatro estratégias para controle de braquiária em área de restauração florestal no município de Bom Jardim - RJ: T1 - capina em faixas nas linhas de plantio e roçadas nas entrelinhas; T2 - capina em faixas nas linhas de plantio e aplicações do herbicida glyphosate (1,44 kg i.a. ha-1) nas entrelinhas; T3 - capina em área total e consórcio com leguminosas herbáceas fixadoras de nitrogênio; T4 - capina em faixas nas linhas de plantio, roçadas e consórcio com eucalipto nas entrelinhas. Avaliou-se o crescimento em altura, diâmetro no nível do solo e diâmetro de copa de dez espécies arbóreas em diferentes idades, bem como todos os custos envolvidos na aplicação e manutenção de cada tratamento, até 30 meses após o plantio. Em todas as épocas de avaliação, as plantas florestais apresentaram média de crescimento significativamente superior em altura e em diâmetro nos tratamentos de consórcio com leguminosas e aplicação de glyphosate (T3 e T2). Aos 24 meses após o plantio, a copa das árvores implantadas já recobria 80% a 90% da área da unidade experimental nesses tratamentos. Entretanto, o custo de manutenção do T3 foi quase o dobro das unidades de T1 e o custo deste último foi quase três vezes superior das unidades submetidas a T2. O consórcio de eucalipto nas entrelinhas de plantio não prejudicou, mas não beneficiou o crescimento das espécies nativas. O controle químico e o consórcio com leguminosas herbáceas podem ser apontados como alternativas eficazes para controle da braquiária dessa área, antecipando a formação dos povoamentos e resultando em economia de recursos.

Abstract Forest restoration in pastures dominated by Urochloa spp. (brachiaria) shows relatively high cost, mainly by the difficulty of controlling this weed. The objective of this work was to determine the most efficient brachyria control for forest restoration formation. Four different strategies for brachiaria control in the forest restoration area were compared in the city of Bom Jardim, Rio de Janeiro state: T1 weeding in strips in the planting lines and mowed between the lines; T2 weeding in strips in the planting lines and applications of glyphosate (1.44 kg i.a. ha-1) between the lines; T3 - weeding in total area and consortium with herbaceous legumes nitrogen-fixing; T4 - weeding in strips in the planting lines, mowing and consortium with eucalyptus between the lines. The growth in height, the diameter at ground level and the diameter of the top of ten forest species at different ages were evaluated, as well as all costs involved in the application and maintenance of each treatment, up to 30 months after planting. In every age of valuation, forest plants showed significantly higher average growth in height and diameter at the ground level in the treatment of consortium with herbaceous legumes and application of glyphosate. At 24 months after planting, the top of the trees that were introduced had already covered 80% to 90% of the area of experimental unit that received the T3 (legumes) and T2 (Glyphosate) treatments, respectively. However, the maintenance cost of the T3 was almost double the T1 units and the cost of the latter was almost three times higher than the units analyzed for T2. As a general rule, eucalyptus consortium between the lines of planting did not harm, but also did not benefit the growth of the native species planted up to 30 months after planting. Chemical control and consortium with herbaceous legumes can be pointed as effective alternatives to control the brachiaria of this area, anticipating the formation of stands and resulting in resource savings.

Abstract This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of four weed control strategies in forest setting stands linked by a set of Atlantic Forest tree species. Four treatments were employed: mechanical – manual hoeing and mowing; chemical – glyphosate herbicide application in the total area; chemical – cultural – herbicide spraying and herbaceous legume intercropping; chemical-mechanical – herbicide planting in rows and mowing in the interrows. Diameter, crown area and soil cover percentage of the eight tree species were assessed at 18 months. Herbicide spraying in total area promoted the greatest reduction in weed populations, as well as superior growth in height, diameter, crown area and soil cover of the tree species. More interventions were necessary in the treatment of mechanical weed control that has also shown the least growth of the tree species. The chemical method was the most effective in weed control and promoted the greatest growth of the tree species.

Resumo Com a nova legislação ambiental brasileira vislumbra-se a possibilidade do uso de sistemas agroflorestais diversificados para recompor áreas de preservação permanente e reserva legal, principalmente em pequenas propriedades rurais. Uma pergunta que surge, diz respeito à capacidade desses sistemas em reduzir custos na restauração florestal e, ao mesmo tempo apresentar eficiência ecológica similar aos plantios em que se faz uso exclusivo de espécies nativas do bioma em questão. Buscando a resposta avaliou-se nesse estudo um sistema agroflorestal implantado em 2005, em Seropédica - RJ, que tinha o objetivo de interligar dois fragmentos florestais ali existentes. Desde então foram feitas avaliações da serapilheira, micro e mesofauna do solo desse “corredor agroflorestal” na interligação desses fragmentos. Os resultados indicaram que a quantidade e a qualidade da fauna do solo e fungos micorrízicos foram favorecidos pelo sistema agroflorestal em comparação à matriz de pastagem, mas tanto a riqueza, quanto a abundância ainda se encontram em níveis inferiores aos fragmentos florestais interligados. A pastagem próxima ao sistema agroflorestal vem se beneficiando da melhoria ambiental ali existente, criando um “efeito de borda positivo”, situação bem distinta da pastagem que se encontrava mais distante da área de influência do corredor agroflorestal. Para os indicadores utilizados, o sistema agroflorestal foi eficiente.

Abstract The Brazilian new environmental law permits the use of agroforestry systems to restore degraded areas protected by legislation, especially in small farms. One question that arises is if it is possible to reduce costs of the restoration process with these agroforestry systems and, at the same time, to offer ecological services, similar to afforestation with the exclusive use of native species of the Atlantic Forest biome. Seeking results to proof the effectivity, an agroforestry system established in 2005, at Seropédica, RJ state, with the objective of connecting two forest fragments, went through a series of evaluations realized on the ecological effectiveness on the connection of these fragments. The results indicated that the quantity and quality of soil fauna and mycorrhizal fungi obtained benefits by the agroforestry system in comparison to the pasture matrix but are still at lower levels than the forest fragments. Pasture near the agroforestry system has benefited from the environmental improvement there, originated from a “positive edge effect”, a situation quite different from the pasture that was farther from the area of influence of the agroforestry corridor. For the indicators used, the agroforestry system was efficient.

RESUMO O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar a influência do relevo nas características químicas e físico-hídricas do solo e na regeneração natural, em áreas de pastagens abandonadas. Para o estudo foram consideradas oito áreas de relevo movimentado no município de Itaboraí-RJ, em cada uma das áreas foram selecionadas duas topossequências divididas em terços superior, médio e inferior, contemplando as pedoformas côncavas e convexas. Foram instaladas duas parcelas (20 m x10 m) em cada terço, uma para cada pedoforma, nas quais se avaliaram os atributos físico-hídricos e químicos do solo, a regeneração natural e a biomassa aérea da pastagem (biomassa estocada e taxa de rebrota). O terço superior apresentou os menores teores de argila e as características químicas não foram influenciadas pela posição na encosta. Na pedoforma côncava, nas áreas de textura argilosa, obtiveram-se menores valores de soma de bases trocáveis e de carbono, quando comparada à pedoforma convexa, de mesma classe textural. Essa tendência se repetiu, porém, de forma não significativa, nas áreas com textura média. As características físico-hídricas estiveram mais associadas à granulometria do solo que à posição na paisagem. A regeneração natural apresentou poucas espécies e não foram observadas diferenças tanto para a posição na encosta como para a pedoforma. No entanto, a espécie de Poaceae existente na pastagem de cada área foi um indicador mais sensível do potencial de desenvolvimento da regeneração natural do que as características edáficas, com destaque negativo para a paisagem dominada por Urochloa humidicola (Rendle) Morrone e Zuloaga, na qual se encontraram os menores valores de regeneração natural.

ABSTRACT The aim of this work was to evaluate the influence of the topographic conditions on soil chemical and physico-hydric characteristics and on the natural regeneration of abandoned pasture areas. We studied eight areas of hill lands in the municipality Itaboraí - Rio de Janeiro State. Two topossequences were selected in each one of the areas. These topossequences were divided into shoulder, backslope and footslope positions contemplating the main landform, concave and convex. Two experimental plots (20 x 10 m) were installed in each section of the toposequence, one for each landform, for the evaluation of soil chemical and physical-hydric characteristics, natural regeneration and pasture biomass (stocked biomass and regrowth rate). Our results show that soil texture was influenced by landscape position, in which the shoulder had lower clay content. The chemical characteristics were not influenced by topographic conditions. The physico-hydric characteristics were influenced by the particle size of the soil. The natural regeneration presented few species, and was not influencied by its position in the landscape and by the landform. However, the development of natural regeneration tended to be more limited in pasture dominated by Urochloa humidicola (Rendle) Morrone e Zuloaga.

ABSTRACT The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of chemopreventive or water-repellent substances on the durability of cardboard disks used to crown forest tree species. The experiment presented a randomized block design with four repetitions and four sampling times (63, 133, 260 and 365 days) and was installed in Seropedica, RJ, in an area with Urochloa humidicola . Bamboo poles were used to simulate seedlings in the field and define the position of the experimental units. The treatments consisted of in natura cardboard, or treated with CuSO4 solution, pinus shellac, CuSO4 + pinus shellac, CuSO 4 + Sika®, pinus shellac + Sika®, and a second control with manual crowning. The cardboard crowning was effective at suppressing grass growth over all periods evaluated, independent of the treatment. After a year in the field, the cardboard disks treated with CuSO4 solution presented higher physical integrity with only 25% mass loss, against 60% mass loss in the control. The cardboard crowning also reduced soil temperature at the crown area by up to 15 °C in the 0 to 10 cm layer, in comparison with manual crowning. The results of this study indicate that the cardboard crowning method is efficient and has the potential to reduce the cost of weed control in reforestation.

RESUMO Atualmente, há poucas informações sobre a recuperação de áreas onde ocorre a extração de piçarra na Caatinga. Objetivou-se avaliar o emprego da fauna edáfica como bioindicadora da qualidade do solo em áreas com e sem a adição de topsoil (CT e ST, respectivamente), em plantios florestais para a recuperação de áreas de extração deste recurso mineral. Considerou-se a mata nativa de Caatinga (MT) como referencial. Foram instaladas 10 armadilhas em três réplicas para cada tratamento, em delineamento em blocos casualizados em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, no final da estação chuvosa,em diferentes épocas (0, 1, 3 e 6 anos depois). Capturou-se um total de 45.740 organismos, distribuídos em 36 grupos taxonômicos, com o predomínio de Acari, Diptera, Entomobryomorpha, Formicidae, Poduromorpha e Symphypleona, em todos os tratamentos (ST, CT, MT). Nove grupos (25% do total) apresentaram ocorrência restrita. Os valores de riqueza e diversidade foram maiores na MT, seguidos do CT e ST. Não houve um padrão definido para a uniformidade e abundância total da comunidade. A maioria dos grupos apresentou inibição na abundância nos tratamentos testados em relação à MT, mas este efeito negativo foi relevante no ST, em comparação com o CT. A similaridade entre ST e CT foi elevada, e muito baixa com a MT. A complexidade ecológica da comunidade da fauna edáfica foi maior na MT. A fauna edáfica funcionou como bioindicadora da qualidade do solo, que foi maior em CT, na comparação com ST.

ABSTRACT Information on the recovering of areas of gravel extraction of the Caatinga biome are scarce. Thus, the objective of this work was to assess the soil fauna as bioindicator of soil quality, evaluating areas with addition of topsoil (WAT) and control areas (CWT) without the addition of topsoil used for forest plantations, which were implemented for recovering gravel extraction areas. A native forest of the Caatinga biome (NFC) was taken as a reference. Ten traps with three replicates were installed in each area, which were evaluated in a randomized block design in split-plot arrangement at the end of the rainy season of different years, 0, 1, 3 and 6 years after the experiment implementation. A total of 45,740 specimens were captured. These specimens were from 36 taxonomic groups. The Acari, Diptera, Entomobryomorpha, Formicidae, Poduromorpha and Symphypleona were the predominant groups in all areas (WAT, CWT and NFC). Nine groups (25% of the total) had restricted occurrence. The fauna richness and diversity were higher in the NFC, followed by the WAT and CWT. The uniformity and total abundance of the soil fauna community showed no defined patterns. The abundance of most groups was inhibited in the treatments evaluated, compared with NFC, however, this adverse effect was more significant in CWT compared with WAT. The CWT and WAT had high similarity and both had very low similarity with NFC. The ecological complexity of soil fauna community was higher in NFC. The soil fauna was efficient as a bioindicator of soil quality, which was higher in WAT, compared with CWT.

RESUMO O trabalho foi desenvolvido em uma área de pasto abandonada revegetada com leguminosas arbóreas. Localizada no município de Valença, RJ, nela foram utilizadas diferentes proporções de leguminosas arbóreas fixadoras de nitrogênio: 0% (0L), 25% (25L), 50% (50L) e 75% (75L). Para avaliação da macrofauna do solo, as amostragens foram feitas nas épocas seca e úmida, utilizando-se o método TSBF. Outras amostragens foram realizadas, ainda, em uma floresta secundária (FS) e em duas áreas de pasto (PA e PB). O processo de revegetação aumentou a diversidade da fauna do solo de uma forma geral. Formicidae foi o grupo da macrofauna de maior abundância em todas as áreas, para as duas épocas de avaliação. Na época chuvosa, houve aumento considerável na quantidade de invertebrados na camada serapilheira nos tratamentos 0L, 25L, 50L, 75L e Floresta Secundária, o que no período seco aconteceu na camada 0-10 cm.

ABSTRACT The study was conducted in an area of abandoned pasture located in the city of Valença (RJ) revegetated with tree legumes. Different proportions of nitrogen-fixing leguminous trees were used: 0% (0L), 25% (25L), 50% (50L) and 75% (75L). For evaluation of soil biota, samplings were made in the end of the dry season and in the rainy season. Samples were collected in the abandoned pasture, in a secondary forest, and in two grassland areas (PA and PB). The process of reforestation has increased the overall diversity of soil fauna. Formicidae was the group that stood out, being abundant in all treatments and in the two periods of collection. During the rainy season, a considerable increase in the amount of invertebrates in the litter layer was observed in the treatments 0L, 25L, 50L, 75L and in the secondary forest, while during the dry season, such increase occurred in the 0-10 cm layer.

RESUMO O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a diversidade, riqueza e composição da comunidade da fauna do solo epígea em uma voçoroca revegetada no ano de 2000 com diferentes espécies de leguminosas arbóreas. A voçoroca está localizada no Instituto Federal de Educação (IFRJ) campus Nilo Peçanha no município de Pinheiral - RJ. Foram avaliadas as seguintes áreas: plantio de Acacia mangium Willd. (PA), plantio de Mimosa caesalpiniifolia Benth. (PM), plantio de leguminosas arbóreas no terço superior da encosta (PTS), plantio de leguminosas no interior da voçoroca (IVR2000). Os plantios de A. mangium e M. caesalpiniifolia foram realizados antes da revegetação. Para efeito comparativo também foi avaliada uma área de floresta secundária com 20 anos, próxima ao local de coleta. Na coleta da fauna do solo epígea foram utilizadas 10 armadilhas do tipo pitfall (MOLDENKE, 1994) por área. Foram realizadas três coletas, uma no início da revegetação, em maio de 2000, em junho de 2006 e abril de 2008. Houve um aumento no número de grupos e na diversidade da fauna do solo no plantio no terço superior, no interior da voçoroca, e no plantio de Mimosa caesalpiniifolia após 6 anos da intervenção. Nas coletas realizadas em 2000 e 2006, a APC mostrou que a maioria dos grupos estava associada ao ano de 2006, mostrando total antagonismo com o ano de 2000. O plantio de Acacia mangium foi a área com o menor número de grupos. Na coleta realizada em 2008, a pastagem foi a área com menor número médio de grupos coletados e na análise de componentes principais (ACP) do interior da voçoroca os grupos estavam associados ao ano de 2008 com total antagonismo com os anos de 2000 e 2006. Os grupos Formicidae e Collembola (Entomobryomorpha) foram os mais dominantes em todas as áreas amostradas no ano de 2000 e 2008 e no interior da voçoroca ano de 2006.

ABSTRACT The diversity, richness and composition of the soil epigeous fauna community were evaluated in a re-vegetated gully at the Instituto Federal de Educação (IFRJ) campus Nilo Peçanha, in the municipality of Pinheiral, Rio de Janeiro state. Revegetation was performed in 2000, and consisted of four different strategies involving N-fixing trees: planting Acacia mangium Willd. (PA); planting Mimosa caesalpiniifolia Benth. (PM); on the outer edges of the gully head (PTS); and planting a mix of legume tree species into the gully (IVR2000). Acacia mangium and Mimosa caesalpiniifolia were planted above the gully head. A nearby 20-year secondary forest remnant was used as a reference site. Ten pitfall traps were used for the sampling of epigeous fauna at each one of the five areas (MOLDENKE, 1994). Sampling was performe in May 2000, June 2006, and April 2008. Six years after revegetation has started, fauna group richness and diversity increased both into the gully and in Mimosa caesalpiniifolia plantation. For the 2000 and 2006 samplings a PCA showed that groups were mostly associated to 2006, and completely opposite to 2000. Acacia mangium plantation had the lowest group richness. In the 2008 sampling, pasture showed the lowest group richness, and according to the PCA groups into the gully were associated to 2008, and completely opposite to 2000 and 2006. Formicidae and Collembola (Entomobryomorpha) were dominant in all sampled areas, both in 2000 and 2008, and into the gully in 2006 as well.
