RESUMEN Introducción: la yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) constituye un recurso alimentario autóctono, formando parte de la tradición y cultura alimentaria del Paraguay. Sin embargo, existen pocos estudios locales sobre los hábitos de consumo y preferencias por los paraguayos. Objetivo: describir los hábitos de consumo de la yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) en el Departamento Central en el 2022. Metodología: estudio descriptivo, transversal, con datos primarios, realizado en el Departamento Central de Paraguay. Muestreo no probabilístico en racimos. Instrumento de elaboración propia, diseñado como encuesta digital en la plataforma Google Form® (EE.UU.). Las variables fueron agrupadas en datos demográficos, relacionados al consumo de mate, tereré y cocido, procesados en Microsoft Excel® (EE.UU.) y EPI INFO® 7.0 (EE.UU.). Resultados: participaron 207 personas, la mayoría contaban entre 18 a 40 años, sexo femenino (83,22 %, 119), solteros, universitarios. El consumo más frecuente fue mate+ tereré+ cocido (43,96 %, 91) y tereré + cocido (14,01 %, 29). Todos los encuestados percibían más de dos salarios mínimos, y eran trabajadores de tiempo completo. El 81,64 % (169) consumían tereré, 69,08 % (143) mate, 80,23 % (138) cocido. El tipo de yerba más consumido fue la “compuesta con hierbas medicinales”, con un promedio de 1,5 Litros diarios. Conclusión: las formas más consumidas son tereré, cocido y mate, el tipo de yerba es la compuesta con el agregado de hierbas medicinales. Se sugieren realizar estudios poblacionales más amplios sobre el consumo de bebidas a base de yerba mate en Paraguay, así como ampliar estudios sobre las posibles interacciones e inocuidad entre la yerba mate con hierbas medicinales.

ABSTRACT Introduction: yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) constitutes a native food resource, forming part of the food tradition and culture of Paraguay. However, there are few local studies on the consumption habits and preferences of Paraguayans. Objective: to describe the consumption habits of yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) in the Departamento Central in 2022. Results: people participated was 207, the majority were between 18 and 40 years old, female (83.22 %, 119), single, university students. The most frequent consumption was mate + tereré + cooked (43.96 %, 91) and tereré + cooked (14.01 %, 29). All respondents received more than two minimum wages, and were full-time workers. 81.64 % (169) consumed tereré, 69.08 % (143) consumed mate, 80.23 % (138) cooked. The most consumed type of herb was “composed with medicinal herbs”, with an average of 1.5 Liters per day. Conclusion: the most consumed forms are tereré, cooked and mate, the type of yerba is the one composed with the addition of medicinal herbs. It is suggested to carry out larger population studies on the consumption of yerba mate-based drinks in Paraguay, as well as expand studies on the possible interactions and safety between yerba mate and medicinal herbs.

Abstract The Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia, published since 1925, is the most influential dermatological journal in Latin America, indexed in the main international bibliographic databases, and occupies the 50th position among the 70 dermatological journals indexed in the Journal of Citations Reports, in 2022. In this article, the authors present a critical analysis of its trajectory in the last decade and compare its main bibliometric indices with Brazilian medical and international dermatological journals. The journal showed consistent growth in different bibliometric indices, which indicates a successful editorial policy and greater visibility in the international scientific community, attracting foreign authors. The increases in citations received (4.1 ×) and in the Article Influence Score (2.9×) were more prominent than those of the main Brazilian medical and international dermatological journals. Resumo A prescrição farmacêutica avança no mundo, com diferentes países regulando a prática. No Brasil, essa regulação ocorreu em 2013, porém são escassas as informações sobre sua inserção no cotidiano do exercício farmacêutico. Este estudo objetivou analisar a prescrição farmacêutica no município de Vitória-ES, Brasil, e os fatores que influenciam na adesão da prática. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo com 20 farmacêuticos e 10 gestores de farmácias comunitárias públicas e privadas, realizado a partir de entrevistas, com posterior análise de conteúdo temática para apreender percepções e opiniões. Os farmacêuticos desta pesquisa não prescreviam. Farmacêuticos e gestores identificaram facilitadores para a implementação da atividade, com destaque para os fatores: infraestrutura; fácil acesso ao farmacêutico; e boa receptividade à prescrição. Como barreiras, os fatores foram: número insuficiente de recursos humanos; falta de estímulo institucional à prescrição; e fatores individuais. Além da observação da não execução da prescrição farmacêutica, este estudo trouxe uma oportunidade para identificar elementos que podem estar contribuindo para que o exercício dessa atividade não seja realizado nas farmácias comunitárias. Adaptar rotinas ou contratar pessoal se mostraram as principais modificações necessárias. Paralelamente, ações destinadas a qualificar a formação por meio da educação permanente também se apresentam como necessárias.

Abstract Pharmacist prescribing advances in the world with different countries regulating this activity. In Brazil, this regulation took place in 2013, but there is little information about its insertion in the routine of pharmacist practice. This study aimed to analyze the pharmacist prescribing in the city of Vitória, Espírito Santo state, Brazil, and the factors that influence adherence to the practice. This is a qualitative study based on interviews with 20 pharmacists and 10 managers of public and private community drugstores with subsequent content analysis to apprehend perceptions and opinions. The pharmacists in this research did not prescribe. Pharmacists and managers identified facilitators for the implementation of the activity, highlighting the following factors: infrastructure; easy access to the pharmacist; and good receptivity to the prescription. As barriers, the factors were insufficient number of human resources; lack of institutional stimulus to prescribing; and individual factors. In addition to the observation of non-execution of pharmacist prescribing, this study provided an opportunity to identify elements that may contribute to the non-existence of this activity in community drugstores. Adapting routines or hiring staff were the main necessary changes. At the same time, actions aimed at qualifying training through permanent education are also necessary.

RESUMEN Introducción: Aunque la competitividad aumenta progresivamente según los grupos de edad, los jugadores deben destacar en su posición de juego a todas las edades para ganarse un puesto en sus selecciones nacionales. Las diferencias entre las exigencias físicas y técnicas de los partidos también pueden influir en qué aspectos antropométricos serían más importantes para la selección nacional. Objetivos: Este estudio tuvo como objetivo describir y comparar el perfil antropométrico de futbolistas masculinos de menores de 15 años a categorías mayores de las selecciones brasileñas de fútbol. Métodos: La muestra estuvo compuesta por 673 jugadores de las siguientes categorías: Sub 15 (U15), Sub 17 (U17), Sub 20 (U20), Sub 23 (U23) y Profesional (PRO). Se utilizaron medidas de estatura, masa corporal y la suma de 7 pliegues cutáneos de la base de datos de la Confederación Nacional de Fútbol de Brasil entre 2013 y 2021 para describir el perfil antropométrico de los jugadores. Los jugadores se agruparon según los tramos de edad oficiales, la posición de juego y los seleccionados y no seleccionados. Resultados: Como era de esperar, los resultados indican que la masa corporal aumenta con la edad y se estanca a partir de la categoría U23. ABSTRACT Introduction: Although competitiveness rises progressively increases according to age groups, players must stand out in their playing position at all ages to win a spot on their National Teams. The differences among match physical and technical demands could also influence which anthropometrical aspects would be most importantly considered for National Team selection. Objectives: This study aimed describe and compare the anthropometric profile of soccer players from U15 to professional categories of the Brazilian National Soccer Team. Methods: The sample consisted of 673 players from the categories U15, U17, U20, U23 and PRO. Measurements of height, body mass, and sum of seven skinfolds from the Brazilian Football Confederation database between 2013 and 2021 were used to describe the players’ anthropometric profile. Players were grouped according to categories, playing position, and those who were selected or not selected. Results: As expected, the results indicate that body mass increases with age and stabilizes from category U23 onwards. Body mass and the sum of seven skinfolds increase within the U15 category (U15.1 vs. U15.2), while height and body mass increase within the U17 category (U17.1 vs. U17.2). Defenders and fullbacks stabilize body mass and stature prior to U17, while midfielders, strikers, and goalkeepers stabilize body mass later, with midfielders and strikers at U20, and goalkeepers at U23. Goalkeepers and defenders were the players with the greatest height and body mass compared to the other positions in all categories. The selected and non-selected players in the different categories had similar anthropometric profiles. Conclusion: From the results, there is a diversity in anthropometric profile within the positions and a difference in maturation according to the players’ positions. This study can be used by coaches, physical trainers and sport scientists as normative data about the anthropometric profile of Brazilian men's soccer teams, establishing a benchmark. As diferenças entre as exigências físicas e técnicas dos jogos também podem influenciar quais aspectos antropométricos seriam mais importantes para a seleção da equipe nacional. Objetivo: Este estudo teve por objetivo descrever e comparar o perfil antropométrico de jogadores de futebol da categoria sub 15 ao profissional da Seleção Brasileira de Futebol. Métodos: A amostra consistiu de 673 jogadores das seguintes categorias: sub 15 (U15) sub 17 (U17) sub 20 (U20) sub 23 (U23) e profissional (PRO). Abstract This study presents findings from research conducted with indigenous and peasant students (n = 53) in their first year of the Rural Education Degree (Countryside Education) program at a public university in the Brazilian Midwest. We investigated previous knowledge and methods for developing entomological knowledge using structured questionnaires with open, closed, and multiple-choice questions. As a result, we discovered 24 distinct types of animals known as insects. Indigenous peoples conceptualized insects using ecological principles, whereas peasants approached the subject from health and emotional perspectives. Our findings revealed that indigenous students’ prior entomological knowledge was primarily developed within their families, while peasant students developed it at school. This study provides important insights into pre-existing knowledge and the development of entomological understanding in an intercultural setting. Resumo: Este estudo apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa realizada com estudantes indígenas e camponeses (n = 53) do primeiro ano do curso de Licenciatura em Educação do Campo em uma universidade pública do Centro-Oeste brasileiro. Examinamos, por meio de questionários estruturados com perguntas abertas, fechadas e de múltipla escolha, o conhecimento prévio e as formas de construção do conhecimento entomológico. Como resultado, encontramos 24 tipos de animais citados como insetos. Os indígenas conceituam insetos com base em conceitos ecológicos e os camponeses com base em aspectos de saúde e emocionais. Descobrimos que o conhecimento entomológico prévio desses estudantes foi criado dentro do núcleo familiar, no caso dos indígenas, e na escola, no caso dos camponeses. Esta pesquisa traz informações legítimas sobre o conhecimento prévio e a construção do conhecimento entomológico, numa perspectiva intercultural, a fim de promover uma reflexão sobre o diálogo entre tradições, conhecimento popular e científico. Abstract This study evaluated the productive and reproductive performances of Santa Inês sheep and their Dorper crossbreeds during the lactation period amidst the dry season in the semi-arid region of Paraíba, Brazil. Conducted at the experimental goat farm of the State University of Paraíba (UEPB), Campus IV, Catolé do Rocha, the investigation included a cohort of 24 ewes (12 Santa Inês and 12 Dorper crossbreeds [comprising 87.5% Dorper and 12.5% Santa Inês]) and 30 lambs (10 males and 20 females). Observations were recorded from birth and continued at 30-day intervals up to 90 days. Using a two-way ANOVA with a 2 x 2 factorial design (two genetic groups and two sexes), the study monitored both ewes and lambs. The animals adhered to traditional regional management, grazing in paddocks by day and secured in shelters by dusk. The study found that both Santa Inês and Dorper crossbred ewes produced similar quantities of milk (P=0.8310) for the first 60 days of lactation. There was no discernible effect of the ewes’ genetic backgrounds on their live weights, body condition scores at lambing, throughout the subsequent 30, 60, and 90 days of lactation, or on the overall productive efficiency and total weight of weaned lambs per ewe. In contrast, Dorper lambs demonstrated a higher weaning weight (P=0.0349) and greater weight gain (P=0.0403). Resumo Objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho produtivo e reprodutivo de ovinos da raça Santa Inês e mestiços da raça Dorper criados em sistema tradicional de produção durante a fase de amamentação na época seca do ano no semiárido paraibano. O experimento foi conduzido no Setor de Caprinovinocultura da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba/UEPB/Campus-IV, Catolé do Rocha/PB. Foram utilizadas 24 ovelhas multíparas, sendo 12 da raça Santa Inês e 12 mestiças da raça Dorper (87,5% Dorper + 12,5% Santa Inês) paridas com 30 ovinos jovens, sendo 10 machos e 20 fêmeas. O período experimental se iniciou no momento do parto e os dados foram coletados ao nascimento, aos 30, 60 e 90 dias de idade. Foi utilizada análise de variância para as ovelhas e para os cordeiros esquema fatorial 2 x 2 (dois grupos genéticos e dois sexos). Os cordeiros permaneceram com suas mães em piquetes durante o dia e à noite no aprisco, manejo tradicional da região. As ovelhas Santa Inês e mestiças Dorper produziram quantidades de leite semelhantes (P=0,8310) até os 60 dias de lactação. O grupo genético das ovelhas não influenciou os pesos vivos e escore de corporal ao parto, 30, 60 e 90 dias de lactação, como também a eficiência produtiva e peso total de crias desmamadas por ovelha. Abstract Introduction: Metabolic syndrome (MS) and obesity are risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, the development of cardiovascular pathologies in obese individuals without MS is being investigated. Objective: To investigate whether there are similar electrocardiographic (ECG) and echocardiographic changes in individuals with obesity with and without MS. Methodology: A retrospective, descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out with obese patients at a university hospital in Belém, Pará, Brazil. Anthropometric, laboratory, ECG and echocardiographic data were evaluated in both populations. The chi-square test was used to describe the relationship between variables among groups; hypothesis tests with p < 0.05 were considered statistically significant values. Results: The study evaluated 100 individuals with obesity, 60 of whom had MS. The average age was 54 years, and the female sex was prevalent. Systolic blood pressure, HDL, and waist circumference were altered in both groups. Systemic arterial hypertension and low HDL demonstrated 4.27 times and 3.32 times greater likelihood of presenting changes in the ECG and echocardiogram for both groups. On the ECG, diffuse changes in ventricular repolarization were observed in both groups. On echocardiography, left ventricular diastolic dysfunction and left ventricular hypertrophy were present in both populations studied. Abstract This article sought to think over the concepts associated with school withdrawal and dropout expressed by public agents working with young population in a medium-size city in the countryside of the state of São Paulo. The aim was also to allow beneficiaries of school public programs to voice their thoughts in order to learn about their realities and perspectives based on their experience. Thus, 16 interviews were carried out with educators and professionals working in the public protection network as well as with two youngsters who experienced withdrawal/dropout, and the mother of one of them. The hermeneutic-dialectic approach was used as an analytical framework. Regarding the survey outcome, it was observed that this is a complex problem, with several factors involving the school, the families´ socioeconomic conditions and dimensions, and the uniqueness of the adolescent individual; these factors intertwine and make it difficult to resolve the problem, resulting in social vulnerability as a risky context for the phenomenon. Resumo Este artigo buscou refletir sobre as concepções relativas ao abandono e à evasão escolar por parte de agentes públicos que atuam junto à população juvenil num município de porte médio do interior paulista. Visou-se também dar voz aos beneficiários dessas políticas públicas para conhecer suas realidades e perspectivas sobre suas vivências. Para tanto, foram realizadas dezesseis entrevistas com educadores e profissionais da rede de proteção, dois jovens que passaram pela situação de abandono/evasão e a mãe de um deles. Como referencial analítico foi utilizada a abordagem hermenêutico-dialética. Em relação aos resultados, observou-se que se trata de um problema complexo, com diversos fatores pertencentes às dimensões escolar, socioeconômica, familiar e da singularidade do adolescente, que se entrelaçam e dificultam sua resolução, trazendo a vulnerabilidade social como contexto de risco para o fenômeno. Abstract Pharmacist prescribing advances in the world with different countries regulating this activity. In Brazil, this regulation took place in 2013, but there is little information about its insertion in the routine of pharmacist practice. This study aimed to analyze the pharmacist prescribing in the city of Vitória, Espírito Santo state, Brazil, and the factors that influence adherence to the practice. This is a qualitative study based on interviews with 20 pharmacists and 10 managers of public and private community drugstores with subsequent content analysis to apprehend perceptions and opinions. The pharmacists in this research did not prescribe. Pharmacists and managers identified facilitators for the implementation of the activity, highlighting the following factors: infrastructure; easy access to the pharmacist; and good receptivity to the prescription. As barriers, the factors were insufficient number of human resources; lack of institutional stimulus to prescribing; and individual factors. In addition to the observation of non-execution of pharmacist prescribing, this study provided an opportunity to identify elements that may contribute to the non-existence of this activity in community drugstores. Adapting routines or hiring staff were the main necessary changes. At the same time, actions aimed at qualifying training through permanent education are also necessary. Resumo A prescrição farmacêutica avança no mundo, com diferentes países regulando a prática. No Brasil, essa regulação ocorreu em 2013, porém são escassas as informações sobre sua inserção no cotidiano do exercício farmacêutico. Este estudo objetivou analisar a prescrição farmacêutica no município de Vitória-ES, Brasil, e os fatores que influenciam na adesão da prática. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo com 20 farmacêuticos e 10 gestores de farmácias comunitárias públicas e privadas, realizado a partir de entrevistas, com posterior análise de conteúdo temática para apreender percepções e opiniões. Os farmacêuticos desta pesquisa não prescreviam. Farmacêuticos e gestores identificaram facilitadores para a implementação da atividade, com destaque para os fatores: infraestrutura; fácil acesso ao farmacêutico; e boa receptividade à prescrição. Abstract Occlusal stabilization splints are the most common treatment for controlling the deleterious effects of sleep bruxism. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a low-cost, mixed occlusal splint (MOS) compared to that of a rigid splint. A randomized clinical trial was performed on 43 adults of both sexes with possible sleep bruxism and satisfactory dental conditions. They were divided into rigid occlusal splint (ROS) (n = 23) and MOS (n = 20) groups. Masticatory muscle and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain intensity (visual analog scale), quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF), indentations in the oral mucosa, anxiety, and depression (HADS), number of days of splint use, and splint wear were evaluated. All variables were evaluated at baseline (T0), 6 months (T6), and 12 months (T12) after splint installation (T0), and splint wear was evaluated at T6 and T12. Student’s t-test, Mann–Whitney U test, non-parametric Friedman’s analysis of variance for paired samples and pairwise multiple comparisons, Pearson’s chi-square test, two-proportion z-test, non-parametric McNemar’s and Cochran’s Q, and Wilcoxon tests were used (p < 0.05). In both groups, there was a decrease in TMJ pain and pain intensity over time and improvements in the quality of life scores. ABSTRACT: There are reports of septicemic salmonellosis in exotic birds caused by Salmonella enterica serotype Typhimurium, although they are scarce and do not address the anatomopathological and immunohistochemical aspects of this condition in blue-fronted Amazon parrots (Amazona aestiva). This study aims to report an outbreak of salmonellosis by S. Typhimurium in 15 blue-fronted parrots introduced to a rehabilitation center in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Hepatomegaly and splenomegaly, accompanied by flat white areas in the capsule and parenchyma, were the most frequent gross changes, histologically represented by necrotic and heterophilic hepatitis and splenitis and associated with bacteria in the cytoplasm of macrophages and free in the affected tissue. RESUMO: Apesar de existirem relatos sobre salmonelose septicêmica em aves silvestres por Salmonella enterica sorovar Typhimurium, eles são escassos e não abordam os aspectos anatomopatológicos e imuno-histoquímicos da condição em papagaios-verdadeiros (Amazona aestiva). Este trabalho visou relatar um surto de salmonelose por S. Typhimurium em 15 papagaios-verdadeiros introduzidos em um centro de reabilitação localizado no estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil. Hepatomegalia e esplenomegalia acompanhadas por áreas planas brancacentas na cápsula e no parênquima foram as alterações macroscópicas mais frequentes, representadas histologicamente por hepatite e esplenite necróticas e heterofílicas associadas a bactérias no citoplasma de macrófagos e livres no tecido afetado. Abstract Objectives To make recommendations on the diagnosis and treatment of post-extubation laryngitis (PEL) in children with or without other comorbidities. Methods A three-iterative modified Delphi method was applied. Specialists were recruited representing pediatric otolaryngologists, pediatric and neonatal intensivists. Questions and statements approached topics encompassing definition, diagnosis, endoscopic airway evaluation, risk factors, comorbidities, management, and follow-up. A consensus was defined as a supermajority >70%. Results Stridor was considered the most frequent symptom and airway endoscopy was recommended for definitive diagnosis. Gastroesophageal reflux and previous history of intubation were considered risk factors. Specific length of intubation did not achieve a consensus as a risk factor. Systemic corticosteroids should be part of the medical treatment and dexamethasone was the drug of choice. No consensus was achieved regarding dosage of corticosteroids, although endoscopic findings help defining dosage and length of treatment. Non-invasive ventilation, laryngeal rest, and use of comfort sedation scales were recommended. Indications for microlaryngoscopy and bronchoscopy under anesthesia were symptoms progression or failure to improve after the first 72-h of medical treatment post-extubation, after two failed extubations, and/or suspicion of severe lesions on flexible fiberoptic laryngoscopy. Abstract Astyanax lacustris is a small characid fish widely distributed in Brazil, with fast-growing and omnivorous feeding habits. Although the species presents economic and ecological importance, little is known about its parasitological fauna in stream environments. This study aimed to characterize the parasitic fauna of A. lacustris in two streams in the state of Paraná, Brazil. Fifty-two specimens of A. lacustris were collected, 22 from the Carolina stream (Lower Iguaçu River) and 30 from the Carreira stream (Upper Paraná River), in July and September 2018. In both streams, there was a low richness of parasites, and the structure of the parasitic community was predominantly composed of monogeneans. These findings may be associated with the gregarious behavior of the host species. Moreover, the low occurrence of endohelminths, may be associated with the fact that in streams, the energy flow is low, and depends directly on the input of allochthonous matter, which favors the formation of shelters for the establishment of macroinvertebrates, which represent important sources of food for the ichthyofauna, and may act as intermediate and paratenic hosts of parasites. These environments require further studies to support conservation measures aimed at maintaining the balance of ecological relationships in these preserved ecosystems. Resumo Astyanax lacustris é um caracídeo de pequeno porte, amplamente distribuído no Brasil, com hábito alimentar onívoro e rápido crescimento. Embora a espécie tenha importância econômica, pouco se sabe sobre sua fauna parasitológica em ambientes de riacho. Este estudo objetivou caracterizar a fauna parasitária de A. lacustris em dois riachos do estado do Paraná. Foram coletados 52 exemplares de A. lacustris, sendo 22 no riacho Carolina (baixo rio Iguaçu) e 30 no riacho Carreira (alto rio Paraná), nos meses de julho e setembro de 2018. Em ambos os riachos, houve baixa riqueza de parasitos e a estrutura da comunidade parasitária foi caracterizada pela predominância de monogenéticos. Esses achados podem estar associados ao comportamento gregário da espécie hospedeira. Ademais, a baixa ocorrência de endohelmintos pode estar associada ao fato de que, nos riachos, o fluxo de energia é baixo e depende diretamente do aporte de matéria alóctone, que favorece a formação de abrigos para o estabelecimento de macroinvertebrados, os quais representam uma das principais fontes de alimento da ictiofauna, e podem atuar como hospedeiros intermediários e paratênicos de parasitos. Resumo Introdução: O cancro do cólon e reto é a neoplasia mais frequente considerando os dois géneros. . A deteção de lesões pré-malignas por colonoscopia está associada a uma redução da incidência e da mortalidade. Estudos sobre a utilização da luz de banda estreita (NBI) na deteção de lesões serreadas tiveram resultados promissores, mas heterogéneos. Métodos: Realizámos um ensaio clínico randomizado para comparar o número médio de lesões serreadas e lesões hiperplásicas ≥10 mm com NBI ou luz branca de alta-definição (HD-WL). Como resultados secundários comparámos a prevalência e as taxas de deteção de lesões serreadas sésseis, adenomas e todas as lesões. Resultados: Foram randomizados 782 doentes (392 no grupo HD-WL e 390 no grupo NBI). O número médio de lesões serreadas e hiperplásicas ≥10 mm não apresentou diferença estatisticamente significativa entre dois grupos (0.118 vs. 0.156, p = 0.44). A taxa de deteção de adenomas (55.2% vs. 53.2%, p = 0.58) e a taxa de deteção de lesões serreadas sésseis (6.8% vs. 7.5%, p = 0.502) também não foram diferentes. O tempo de retirada foi maior no grupo NBI (10.88 vs. 9.47 min, p = 0.004) e o tempo total de procedimento teve um ligeiro aumento não atingindo significância estatística (20.97 vs. 19.30 min, p = 0.052). Conclusão: A utilização da luz NBI por rotina não aumenta a deteção de lesões serreadas nem de qualquer lesão pré-maligna e aumenta o tempo de retirada na colo-noscopia.

Abstract Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a leading cause of cancer. The detection of premalignant lesions by colonoscopy is associated with reduced CRC incidence and mortality. Narrow band imaging has shown promising but conflicting results for the detection of serrated lesions. Methods: We performed a randomized clinical trial to compare the mean detection of serrated lesions and hyperplastic polyps ≥10 mm with NBI or high-definition white light (HD-WL) withdrawal. We also compared all sessile serrated lesions (SSLs), adenoma, and polyp prevalence and rates. Results: Overall, 782 patients were randomized (WL group 392 patients; NBI group 390 patients). The average number of serrated lesions and hyperplastic polyps ≥10 mm detected per colonoscopy (primary endpoint) was similar between the HD-WL and NBI group (0.118 vs. 0.156, p = 0.44). Likewise, the adenoma detection rate (55.2% vs. 53.2%, p = 0.58) and SSL detection rate (6.8% vs. 7.5%, p = 0.502) were not different between the two study groups. Withdrawal time was higher in the NBI group (10.88 vs. 9.47 min, p = 0.004), with a statistically nonsignificant higher total procedure time (20.97 vs. 19.30 min, p = 0.052). Conclusions: The routine utilization of narrow band imaging does not improve the detection of serrated class lesions or any pre-malignant lesion and increases the with-drawal time.
