Abstract Bycatch is an issue of worldwide relevance involving conflicts between conservation and fishery interests. In Brazil, this conflict has been highlighted in relation to the regulation of small-scale fishery with surface gillnets. To promote management and transformation of this conflict, we analyzed the relationship between catch unloadings from small-scale fishing with surface gillnets and strandings of marine megafauna. We used fishery monitoring data and beach monitoring data in São Paulo between 2015 and 2021, relating to Chelonia mydas, Caretta caretta, Lepidochelys olivacea, Pontoporia blainvillei and Sotalia guianensis. The analyses included (i) overview of catches unloadings from small-scale fishing with surface gillnets and strandings that resulted in the death of each of these species over the course of the year; (ii) correlation tests between those variables for the northern, central, and southern regions; and (iii) performing regression analyses for municipalities within these regions, exhibiting statistically significant positive correlations. The fisheries harvest period was found not to overlap with the stranding distribution. In correlation tests, only strandings of C. mydas in the northern and southern regions, S. guianensis in the southern region and P. blainvillei in the central region showed relationships with fishing landings. The regression analysis was significant for C. mydas and S. guianensis. At the municipal level, the results were statistically significant for C. mydas in São Sebastião, Ubatuba, Ilha Comprida and Cananéia and for S. guianensis in Cananéia. However, the regression explained a small part of the mortality and other impact factors were pointed out. Non-prohibitive management measures, participatory studies, and direct methods for evaluating the interaction between fisheries and megafauna associated with environmental factors should be implemented, along with analyses on other impacts on megafauna.

Resumo A captura incidental é um tema de grande relevância mundial, permeado por conflitos entre interesses de conservação e pesca. Este conflito no Brasil relaciona-se especialmente ao regramento da pesca artesanal com emalhe de superfície e a captura incidental da megafauna. Para subsidiar a gestão e transformação desse conflito, analisou-se a relação entre desembarques da pesca artesanal com emalhe de superfície e os encalhes de megafauna com morte. Foram utilizados os bancos de dados do monitoramento pesqueiro e do monitoramento de praias de São Paulo entre 2015 e 2021, correspondentes a Chelonia mydas, Caretta caretta, Lepidochelys olivacea, Pontoporia blainvillei e Sotalia guianensis. As análises incluíram (i) panorama dos desembarques pesqueiros com emalhe de superfície e encalhes com mortes de cada espécie durante os anos (ii) testes de correlação entre as variáveis para regiões Norte, Centro e Sul (iii) análise de regressão para os municípios nas regiões que apresentaram correlação positiva estatisticamente significativa. A distribuição do número de desembarques não apresentou sobreposição com a distribuição dos encalhes. Nos testes de correlação, somente os encalhes de C. mydas, na região Norte e Sul, S. guianensis no Sul e P. blainvillei no Centro apontaram relação com os desembarques. A análise de regressão foi significativa para C. mydas e S. guianensis. Nos municípios, C. mydas apresentou resultado estatisticamente significativo em São Sebastião, Ubatuba, Ilha Comprida e Cananéia e S. guianensis em Cananéia. Entretanto, a regressão explicou uma pequena parte da mortalidade e outros fatores de impacto foram apontados. Recomenda-se medidas de ordenamento não proibitivas, estudos participativos e aplicação de métodos diretos de avaliação da interação da pesca com a megafauna, associado a fatores ambientais, bem como análises de outros impactos sobre a megafauna.

Abstract The elaboration of fruit blends added of functional components results in nutritionally enriched products. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the physicochemical, sensorial and rheological properties of cashew-apple and araça-boi beverages added with encapsulated omega-3 and stability during 120 days of storage. Juice formulations were prepared with and without adding omega-3 oil and encapsulated omega-3, pasteurized and stored at room temperature, and evaluated sensory, physicochemical and rheological properties. The optimized formulation of the beverage was obtained with 18.6% of cashew-apple and 9.3% of araça-boi pulps, selected in the experiment of the response surface. The formulations with encapsulated omega-3 maintained sensory acceptability. The physicochemical parameters did not present significant interactions among the formulations and the storage time. A consumer test with 100 people was performed using an acceptance test and check all that apply (CATA). The beverage added with unencapsulated omega-3 presented a variation in the sensory attributes along with the storage. All samples showed non-Newtonian behavior and pseudoplastic character. Omega-3 encapsulation is recommended to favor the acceptability and constancy of rheological characteristics in the beverage nutritionally enriched with omega-3.

Resumo Introdução O isolamento social durante a pandemia de COVID-19 pode influenciar a saúde do paciente e do cuidador informal. No intuito de compreender e orientar a melhora da qualidade de vida destes cuidadores, este estudo foi realizado. Objetivo Analisar os efeitos físicos, mentais e a qualidade de vida de cuidadores de pacientes com sequelas neurológicas e atraso do desenvolvimento durante a pandemia de COVID-19. Métodos Trinta cuidadores informais divididos em dois grupos (G1: distúrbios psicomotores e síndromes; G2: sequelas neurológicas) foram avaliados com questionários sobre dados gerais, sobrecarga e qualidade de vida. Foram realizados os testes qui-quadrado com pós-teste de Bonferroni para comparar a taxa de resposta entre as variáveis dependentes e o nível de sobrecarga. Para a correlação entre os grupos e a qualidade de vida, utilizou-se o teste t de Student não pareado, sendo significativo os achados com p ≤ 0,05. Resultados Encontrou-se ausência de sobrecarga ou sobrecarga mínima em 33,3% e sobrecarga leve a moderada em 66,7% dos cuidadores em cada grupo, sem efeito significativo entre estes. Na qualidade de vida foi encontrado déficit em todos os domínios, com diferença significativa entre os grupos no domínio de aspectos sociais, tendo o G1 apresentado maiores déficits (G1: 70,00 ± 23,99%; G2: 86,66 ± 20,84%). Conclusão Conclui-se que houve impacto de leve a moderado na sobrecarga física, com alteração na qualidade de vida dos cuidadores avaliados durante a pandemia de COVID-19, sendo os cuidadores de crianças com distúrbios psicomotores e síndromes os mais acometidos no aspecto social.

Abstract Introduction Since social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic can influence a patient’s and informal caregiver’s health, the present study was carried out to understand and improve the latter’s quality of life. Objective To analyze the physical, mental and quality of life effects on caregivers of patients with neurological sequelae and developmental delay during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Thirty informal caregivers divided into two groups (G1: Psychomotor disorders and syndromes; G2: Neurological sequelae) were evaluated using questionnaires on general data, burden and quality of life. Chi-square tests with Bonferroni post-hoc correction were performed to compare the response rate between the dependent variables and the level of burden. The student’s t-test was applied to determine the correlation between groups and quality of life, obtaining significant findings (p ≤ 0.05). Results No or minimal burden was found in 33.3% of the caregivers, and mild to moderate in 66.7% of each group, with no significant effect between them. In terms of quality of life, a decline was found in all domains, with a significant intergroup difference in social aspects and G1 exhibiting the highest declines (G1: 70.00 ± 23.99%; G2: 86.66 ± 20.84%). Conclusion There was a mild-to-moderate impact on physical burden, with a change in the quality of life of caregivers evaluated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Caregivers of children with psychomotor disorders and syndromes were the most affected in the social aspect domain.

Resumo Os Conselhos Gestores são considerados instrumentos de gestão inovadores e importantes ao exercício da democracia no campo socioambiental. Este artigo buscou integrar a evolução dos marcos regulatórios dos Conselhos Gestores de Unidades de Conservação e a visão de servidores envolvidos nos processos de formulação das normas, a fim de compreender a trajetória de negociação desses processos. Os resultados mostram que a participação social está formalmente garantida em diversos aspectos das normas analisadas, o que representa uma conquista para a gestão ambiental mais democrática e inclusiva de Unidades de Conservação. Ainda assim, foram identificados paradoxos e desafios, relativos a aspectos de representatividade, independência, influência e compartilhamento genuíno de poder em processos de tomada de decisões. Os resultados sociais da participação pressupõem processos contínuos de aprendizagem e negociação, que se refletem no aprimoramento dos arranjos jurídicos analisados.

Abstract Management councils of Protected Areas are an important tool to the exercise of social participation of individuals and groups struggling for social-environmental causes in Brazil’s democracy. This paper aims to integrate the main regulations guiding the social participation in Management Councils of Protected Areas in Brazil and the perception of managers and technicians in order to understand the process of elaboration of the rules, the behind the scenes, and negotiations. Our findings highlight that social participation has been formally ensured in many aspects, revealing democratic advancements in the field of Protected Areas management in Brazil. However, despite remarkable progress, many challenges remain, including aspects of representation, independency, level of influence, and sharing power in decision-making processes. The outcomes of participation are ongoing processes of learning and negotiation, which are reflected in the improvement of the legal arrangements analyzed.

Resumen Los Consejos Gestores han sido considerados instrumentos institucionales de administración, que son innovadores al ejercicio de la democracia brasileña en el campo socio ambiental. Este artículo buscó integrar la evolución de los marcos regulatorios de los consejos gestores de áreas protegidas de Brasil y la visión de servidores involucrados en los procesos de formulación de las normas, a fin de comprender la trayectoria de negociación de esos procesos. Los resultados muestran que la participación social está formalmente garantizada en diversos aspectos de las normas analizadas, lo que debe considerarse una conquista para la gestión de áreas protegidas en Brasil. Sin embargo, se señalan algunas paradojas y desafíos, incluyendo cuestiones de representatividad, independencia, influencia y compartimentos genuinos de poder en la toma de decisiones. Los resultados sociales de la participación presuponen procesos continuos de aprendizaje y negociación, que se reflejan en el perfeccionamiento de los arreglos jurídicos analizados.

RESUMO: Objetivo: Analisar o uso de substâncias psicoativas (tabaco, álcool e drogas ilícitas) em escolares em relação a fatores sociodemográficos, contexto familiar e saúde mental. Métodos: Foram utilizados dados da amostra de 102.301 escolares do nono ano da Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde do Escolar de 2015. Realizou-se o cálculo da prevalência de uso de tabaco e de álcool nos últimos 30 dias e experimentação de drogas, segundo variáveis sociodemográficas, contexto familiar e saúde mental. Procedeu-se a análise univariada, por teste do χ2 de Pearson e cálculo das odds ratios (OR) não ajustadas. Por fim, realizou-se análise multivariada para cada desfecho com as variáveis que apresentaram associação com os desfechos (p < 0,20), calculando-se as OR ajustadas com intervalo de confiança de 95%. Resultados: A prevalência de uso de tabaco foi de 5,6%; do uso de álcool, 23,8%; e da experimentação de drogas, 9,0%. A análise multivariada apontou que, no contexto familiar, morar com os pais, fazer refeição com pais ou responsável e a supervisão familiar foram associados a menor uso de substâncias; enquanto faltar às aulas sem consentimento dos pais aumentou a chance de uso. Maior chance do uso de substâncias esteve ainda associada a cor branca, aumento da idade, trabalhar, sentir-se solitário e ter insônia. Não ter amigos foi associado com uso de drogas e tabaco, porém foi protetor para o uso de álcool. Conclusões: A supervisão familiar foi protetora do uso de substâncias psicoativas em escolares brasileiros, enquanto trabalhar, sentir-se solitário e ter insônia aumentaram suas chances de uso.

Methods: We used data from the National School-based Health Survey 2015 and included in the sample 102,301 schoolchildren in the 9th grade. We estimated the prevalence of tobacco and alcohol use in the last 30 days and drug experimentation according to demographic, mental health and family context variables. Then, a bivariate analysis was performed using Pearson’s χ2 test and the unadjusted odds ratio (OR) was calculated. Finally, we conducted a multivariate analysis including independent variables with an unadjusted association (p < 0.20), for each outcome, estimating the adjusted OR with a 95% confidence interval. Results: The prevalence of tobacco consumption was 5.6%; alcohol consumption, 23.8%; and drug experimentation, 9.0%. Multivariate analysis has indicated that living with parents, having meals with parents or guardian, and family supervision were associated with lower substance consumption; whereas missing classes without parental consent has increased the chances of substance use. Increased chance of substance use was also associated with white skin color, increasing age, to work, feeling lonely and having insomnia. Not having friends was associated with drug and tobacco use, but this was protective for alcohol consumption. Conclusions: Family supervision was protective for psychoactive substance use among Brazilian schoolchildren, whereas work, loneliness and insomnia have increased their chances of use.

Biomaterials are effective alternatives for tissue substitution, including the bone tissue, since they do not pose risks of transmission of diseases or immune rejection. Nowadays, there is an interest in new materials capable of being associated with other substances which favor bone formation, especially natural biopolymers, in particular chitosan, which may present a potential for repairing bone defects and forms films that adhere to metal surfaces. Titanium, despite being a material greatly employed in implants because of its excellent physical properties, does not present bioactive characteristics, making it necessary to use methods of surface modification to enhance its biological response, favoring bone formation. This work aims at studying commercially pure titanium (cp-Ti) coating with chitosan using the biomimetic method and the evaluation of the effects of process variables as substrate surface conditions. Subsequently, the incorporation of AgNO3 was studied and its effects on corrosion resistance were evaluated. To evaluate the coating process, several tests were conducted, such as scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy. From the results obtained, the efficacy of the chitosan film in inhibiting the corrosion of the metals is concluded, which was the target of this study, thus justifying its use for osseointegration and in several implants.

Background: Occupational Tuberculosis (TB) can lead to work absenteeism and a negative professional impact. Knowing the reactivity of the tuberculin test and the risk of M. tuberculosis infection among healthcare professionals is essential for the revision and reinforcement of control measures against TB transmission. Aim: To assess the reactivity of tuberculin test and risk of M. tuberculosis infection among healthcare professionals working in an upright building, in which a TB Reference Clinic is placed. Subjects and Methods: A tuberculosis Skin Test (TST) was done to 251 staff members of a TB clinic that did not have a previous history or suspicion of TB and that did not have a previous TST done. Among subjects with absence of reaction, repeated tests were carried out to assess booster reaction. Results: Fifty one percent of studied subjects (129) had a positive tuberculin test. The booster phenomenon was evidenced in 35.7% (68/190). The seroconversion among non-reactive subjects, subjected to a new TST after one year, was 5.1%. The infection risk was 1.4. Conclusions: This study indicates an important occupational risk of infection in healthcare settings exposed to high TB incidence, and should be used to better allocate resources for infection control.

Antecedentes: La tuberculosis ocupacional causa ausentismo laboral. Conocer la reactividad tuberculínica de los trabajadores de la salud ayuda a mejorar las medidas de control para evitar la infección laboral con M. tuberculosis. Objetivo: Estudiar la reactividad tuberculínica de un grupo de trabajadores de la salud de un centro de referencia de tuberculosis que está ubicado en una edificación vertical. Material y Métodos: Se realizó una prueba de tuberculina a 251 empleados de una clínica de tuberculosis, que no tenían antecedentes o sospecha de tuberculosis y quienes no habían sido sometidos previamente a la prueba. Aquellos sujetos que no respondieron a tuberculina fueron sometidos a una nueva prueba para evaluar la reacción de refuerzo. Resultados: El 51% de los sujetos estudiados tuvieron una reacción tuber-culínica positiva. El fenómeno de refuerzo se observó en 69 de 190 sujetos (35,7%). La tasa de seroconversión en aquellos sujetos con una tuberculina negativa en que se repitió la prueba la cabo de un año, fue de 5,1%. Conclusiones: En este grupo de trabajadores de la salud expuestos a M. tuberculosis, hay una alta tasa de reactividad negativa a tuberculina.
