Resumo Objetivo Compreender a criação e desenvolvimento de grupos de apoio para o autocuidado em hanseníase em um estado do Nordeste brasileiro. Métodos Estudo qualitativo realizado em três grupos no Nordeste do Brasil, entre fevereiro e dezembro de 2019. A coleta de dados englobou entrevistas, observação participante e análise documental. Os dados foram analisados segundo a técnica de análise de conteúdo a partir dos temas preestabelecidos: implantação, organização e continuidade dos grupos. Resultados A implantação dos grupos apresentou como motivos comuns a necessidade de ampliação dos cuidados, e de otimização do tempo de trabalho. O estigma e questões da organização dos serviços foram obstáculos para a implantação. O fator mais relevante para a continuidade dos grupos foi o envolvimento dos coordenadores nas atividades. O apoio de atores externos como ONG e universidades foram relevantes para a implantação e continuidade. Considerações finais As similaridades e diferenças dos grupos relacionam-se aos participantes, à indução e apoio da política de saúde e às interferências de atores externos. Grupos de apoio para o autocuidado em hanseníase são espaços que potencializam a prática de cuidado. O estudo contribui com a implantação ou reorganização de grupos de apoio ao autocuidado.

Abstract Objective To understand the creation and development of support groups for leprosy in a state in the northeast of Brazil. Abstract Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a public health problem developed by different etiologies, which induces metabolic dysfunctions and triglycerides accumulation in hepatocytes. This lipid accumulation can generate lipotoxicity, inflammation and the production of reactive oxygen species, collaborating with the progression of liver pathogenesis to more deleterious stage. Among the elements that initiate the establishment of liver diseases, pesticides should be considered. Worldwide, the use of agricultural chemicals to increase food production may accumulate in the environment, affecting non-target organisms. Thus, worldwide legislation must control pesticides use to preserve economies and lives. Abstract This study investigated the impact of ‘storage condition’ and ‘period of storage’ on selected physico-mechanical properties and fracture reliability of a resin-based composite (RBC). Specimens, prepared from a nanofilled RBC (Filtek Z350 XT; 3M ESPE), underwent tests for degree of conversion (DC), flexural strength (σ), flexural modulus (E), and hardness. The specimens were initially grouped into dry storage at 37°C or wet storage in distilled water at 37°C. Subsequently, they were further divided into four subgroups based on the period of storage: 6, 24, 72, or 168 hours. Specimens tested immediately after preparation served as control. Data analysis employed two-way ANOVA and Weibull analysis (α = 5%). Compared to the control, an increase in DC was observed only after 72 hours of dry storage; σ showed higher values after both dry and wet storage, regardless of the storage period (except for the group wet-stored for 168 hours); E increased with dry storage for at least 24 hours or wet storage for 72 hours; and hardness increased after dry storage for at least 24 hours or wet storage for up to 72 hours. The Weibull modulus remained unchanged under any of the distinct storage conditions. Dry storage resulted in greater characteristic strength than the control, whereas wet storage contributed to higher strength values only at shorter periods (up to 24 hours). ABSTRACT. This experiment aimed to evaluate the forage species and their effect on fruit production of the chayote crop. For this, the culture was under observation in the first ten minutes at each time, from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, with three repetitions, in each year studied (1994, 2001, 2009 and 2016). With the exception of 2009, Trigona spinipes stingless bees were frequent and constant insects in these flowers between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm, visiting mainly male flowers for nectar collection and due to foraging behavior this stingless bee may be considered a pollinator of the chayote.

Resumo Este artigo analisa o perfil das parteiras tradicionais no estado do Amazonas, Brasil, destacando a identificação das características socioeconômicas, seus locais de atuação e a análise da relação entre o trabalho das parteiras e os serviços de saúde. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo e analítico. As informações coletadas são oriundas de um instrumento aplicado às parteiras nos municípios do estado do Amazonas que compõe a base de dados. Constatou-se que a maioria das parteiras entrevistadas possuem ensino fundamental incompleto; residem em área rural ou ribeirinha; iniciaram a atividade de partejar na adolescência, sobretudo por meio da transmissão de saberes no contexto familiar ou comunitário e pela ausência ou indisponibilidade dos serviços de saúde. Verificou-se que a maioria das entrevistadas relataram não realizar seu trabalho de assistência às gestantes por ocasião dos partos nos estabelecimentos de saúde e não recebem ajuda financeira ou material das secretarias de Saúde para assistir às parturientes. Os resultados mostram a importância da presença e do apoio das parteiras tradicionais nos territórios amazônicos. É necessário fortalecer suas práticas, envolvendo o diálogo entre os diversos saberes existentes na produção do cuidado.

It was found that most midwives interviewed have incomplete elementary education; reside in rural or riverside areas; started the activity of midwifery community context and the absence or unavailability of health services. It was found that most of the interviewees reported not attending births in health facilities and do not receive help from the health departments so that they can assist the parturients. The results show the importance of the presence and support of traditional midwives in Amazonian territories. It is necessary to strengthen their practices, involving dialogue between the various existing knowledge in the production of care.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Liver transplantation represents the best therapeutic modality in end-stage chronic liver disease, severe acute hepatitis, and selected cases of liver tumors. AIMS: To describe a double retransplant in a male patient diagnosed with Crohn's disease and complicated with primary sclerosing cholangitis, severe portal hypertension, and cholangiocarcinoma diagnosed in the transplanted liver. METHODS: A 48-year-old male patient diagnosed with Crohn's disease 25 years ago, complicated with primary sclerosing cholangitis and severe portal hypertension. He underwent a liver transplantation in 2018 due to secondary biliary cirrhosis. In 2021, a primary sclerosing cholangitis recurrence was diagnosed and a liver retransplantation was indicated. Recipient's hepatectomy was very difficult by reason of complex portal vein thrombosis requiring extensive thromboendovenectomy. Intraoperative ultrasound with liver doppler evaluation was performed. Two suspicious nodules were incidentally diagnosed in the donor's liver and immediately removed for anatomopathological evaluation. RESULTS: After pathological confirmation of carcinoma, probable cholangiocarcinoma, at frozen section, the patient was re-listed as national priority and a new liver transplantation was performed within 24 hours. The patient was discharged after 2 weeks. CONCLUSIONS: The screening for neoplasms in donated organs should be part of our strict daily diagnostic arsenal. Moreover, we argue that, for the benefit of an adequate diagnosis and the feasibility of a safer procedure, the adoption of imaging tests routine for the liver donor is essential, allowing a reduction of the costs and some potential risks of liver transplant procedure. RESUMO RACIONAL: O transplante de fígado representa a melhor modalidade terapêutica na doença hepática crônica terminal, hepatite aguda grave e casos selecionados de tumores hepáticos. OBJETIVOS: Descrever um retransplante duplo em paciente do sexo masculino, diagnosticado com doença de Crohn e complicado com colangite esclerosante primária, hipertensão portal grave e colangiocarcinoma diagnosticado no fígado transplantado. MÉTODOS: Paciente do sexo masculino, 48 anos, diagnosticado com doença de Crohn há 25 anos e complicado com colangite esclerosante primária e hipertensão portal grave. Foi submetido a um transplante de fígado em 2018 devido a cirrose biliar secundária. Em 2021, foi diagnosticada recidiva de colangite esclerosante primária e indicado retransplante hepático. A hepatectomia do receptor foi de alta complexidade devido à trombose complexa da veia porta, exigindo extensa tromboendovenectomia. Foi realizada ultrassonografia intraoperatória com doppler hepático. Dois nódulos suspeitos foram diagnosticados incidentalmente no fígado do doador e imediatamente removidos para avaliação anatomopatológica. RESULTADOS: Após confirmação patológica de carcinoma, provável colangiocarcinoma, pela congelação, o paciente foi relistado como prioridade nacional, e novo transplante hepático foi realizado em 24 horas. O paciente teve alta após 2 semanas. CONCLUSÕES: O rastreamento de neoplasias em órgãos doados deve fazer parte de nosso estrito arsenal diagnóstico diário. Abstract Introduction: The nose and throat are areas of high viral load, which could place otolaryngologists at an even higher risk for COVID-19 than other health-care workers. Objective: To investigate the prevalence of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in otorhinolaryngologists in southern Brazil, its relationship to demographic data, professional practice and reported symptoms of COVID-19, and compare it with official data on other health-care workers of the state and the general population in the same period. Methods: In this cross-sectional multicenter study, otolaryngologists actively practicing officially registered in Rio Grande do Sul were screened for IgM and IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 from August 1 to September 15, 2020. A questionnaire was also applied. Results: We screened 358 (80.1%) of 447 actively practicing otolaryngologists (195 [54.5%] male; mean [SD] age, 47.77 [13.57] years; range, 26-84 years). Twenty-three were positive for IgM and/or IgG (6.4%). This result was significantly associated with reports of infected household contacts (19/315 negatives and 8/23 positives; p<0.001). From 23 seropositive participants, 14 were asymptomatic (60.9%; p< 0.001). There were no significant associations between seroconversion and age, sex, number of patient appointments and surgical procedures, workplace (hospital or private practice), patients with or without respiratory symptoms, or level of personal protective equipment used. The rate of COVID-19 in all health-care workers in the state was 7.69% at the end of the same period. Data from state government seroprevalence was 5.26 (risk ratio [RR]; 95% CI 3.27–8.45) and 4.66 (RR; 95% CI 2.93–7.43) times higher in otolaryngologists than in the general population in August and September, respectively. Conclusion: Otolaryngologists had a higher seroconversion rate than the general population. Using personal protective equipment, the level of occupational exposure did not result in higher rates of infection than other health-care workers, but the presence of infected household contacts was associated with higher rates of seroconversion. Resumo Este estudo teve como objetivo propor um modelo explicativo de não adesão ao paradigma psicossocial da saúde mental a partir dos estereótipos, das crenças sobre a etiologia da doença mental, da percepção de ameaça e do preconceito. Para tanto, contou-se com a participação de 400 universitários, com média de idade de 24,64 anos (DP = 6, 64), sendo a maioria do sexo feminino (75,6%). Para a proposição do modelo, foi realizada uma path analysis. O modelo proposto demonstrou que quanto maior a percepção de ameaça e a concordância com o estereótipo de incapacidade, menor o apoio ao paradigma psicossocial. Ademais, verificou-se que as crenças acerca da etiologia da doença mental e os estereótipos estão na base da percepção de ameaça e todas essas variáveis juntas predizem maior preconceito. Os achados desta pesquisa fornecem subsídios científicos para a realização de intervenções eficazes e consistentes que fortaleçam o paradigma psicossocial no cenário nacional.

Abstract This study aimed to propose an explanatory model of non-adherence to the psychosocial paradigm of mental health based on stereotypes, beliefs about the etiology of mental illness, perception of threat, and prejudice. Participants included a total of 400 university students, with a mean age of 24.64 years (SD = 6, 64), mostly women (75.6%). A path analysis was performed to propose the model, which showed that the greater the perception of threat and the agreement with the disability stereotype, the lower the support for the psychosocial paradigm. Furthermore, it was found that beliefs about the etiology of mental illness and stereotypes are at the basis of the perception of threat and all these variables together predict greater prejudice. The findings of this research provide scientific support for effective and consistent interventions that strengthen the psychosocial paradigm on the national scene.

Resumen Este estudio tuvo como objetivo proponer un modelo explicativo de la no adherencia al paradigma psicosocial de la salud mental basado en estereotipos, creencias sobre la etiología de la enfermedad mental, percepción de amenaza y prejuicio. Para ello participaron 400 estudiantes universitarios, con una edad media de 24,64 años (DS = 6,64), siendo la mayoría mujeres (75,6 %). Para la proposición del modelo, se realizó un path análisis. El modelo sugerido demostró que, a mayor percepción de amenaza y concordancia con el estereotipo de discapacidad, menor apoyo al paradigma psicosocial. Además, se encontró que las creencias sobre la etiología de la enfermedad mental y los estereotipos están en la base de la percepción de amenaza y todas estas variables en conjunto predicen un mayor prejuicio. Los hallazgos de esta investigación brindan soporte científico para ejecutar intervenciones efectivas y consistentes que fortalezcan el paradigma psicosocial en el escenario nacional.

RESUMO A epidemiologia baseada em esgotos é uma importante ferramenta de saúde pública com grande aplicabilidade no enfrentamento à pandemia de COVID-19, visto que indivíduos infectados são capazes de excretar partículas de SARS-CoV-2. Diante desse contexto, este estudo objetivou correlacionar o número de casos de COVID-19 com variáveis físicas e químicas e presença do vírus em amostras de esgoto bruto provenientes de uma estação de tratamento de esgoto (ETE) do município de Lavras (MG) coletadas entre as 19ª e 25ª semanas epidemiológicas. As amostras foram concentradas pelo método de adsorção em membrana eletronegativa, e o RNA de SARS-CoV-2 foi extraído, detectado e quantificado por reação da transcriptase reversa seguida pela reação em cadeia da polimerase (RT-qPCR) utilizando-se oligonucleotídeos e sondas para o gene N. Ademais, as variáveis pH, sólidos suspensos totais e demanda química de oxigênio foram avaliadas. Os casos de COVID-19 foram obtidos de boletins epidemiológicos disponibilizados pela prefeitura. Na 24ª semana epidemiológica, observou-se redução na concentração viral (cópias L-1) concomitantemente às medidas de enfrentamento à pandemia iniciadas pelo município. Correlação positiva forte e significativa (p < 0,05) entre carga viral e número de casos confirmados foi obtida por meio do teste de Spearman, entretanto não houve correlação entre a presença do vírus e as características físicas e químicas do esgoto. Sugere-se, portanto, que novas pesquisas sejam realizadas com a finalidade de rastrear a concentração de SARS-CoV-2 em águas residuárias, corroborando, desse modo, com o enfrentamento à pandemia e a obtenção de sistemas de vigilância epidemiológica por meio do monitoramento de esgotos.

ABSTRACT Wastewater-based epidemiology is an important public health tool with great applicability when facing the COVID-19 pandemic, since infected individuals are able to excrete SARS-CoV-2 particles. In this context, this study aimed to correlate the number of cases of COVID-19 with physical and chemical variables and the presence of the virus in raw sewage samples from a sewage treatment plant (STP) in the municipality of Lavras, Minas Gerais, Brazil, collected between the 19th and 25th epidemiological weeks. The samples were concentrated by electronegative membrane adsorption method and SARS-CoV-2 RNA was extracted, detected, and quantified by RT-qPCR using oligonucleotides and probes for the N gene. Moreover, the variables pH, total suspended solids, and chemical oxygen demand were evaluated. COVID-19 cases were obtained from epidemiological bulletins made available by the municipal government. From the 24th epidemiological week on, a reduction in viral concentration (copies L-1) was observed concomitantly with the pandemic response countermeasures initiated by the municipality. A strong and significant positive correlation (p<0.05) between viral load and number of confirmed cases was obtained through Spearman’s test. However, there was no correlation between the presence of the virus and the physical and chemical characteristics of the sewage. Therefore, it is suggested that further research be carried out in order to track SARS-CoV-2 concentrations in wastewater, thus corroborating with the fight against the pandemic and the achievement of epidemiological surveillance systems based on sewage monitoring.
