RESUMO Objetivou-se com este estudo comparar a associação de detomidina e cetamina ou dextrocetamina, por via intravenosa contínua, em oito cadelas submetidas a dois protocolos: GCD - indução anestésica com 5mg/kg e infusão intravenosa contínua de 20mg/kg/h de cetamina; e GDD - indução com 3,5mg/kg e infusão de 14mg/kg/h de dextrocetamina. Associou-se detomidina, 30µg/kg/h, em ambos os grupos. Registraram-se frequência cardíaca (FC), pressão arterial (PA), frequência respiratória (f), temperatura (TC), miorrelaxamento, analgesia, hemogasometria e eletrocardiograma, antes e 15 minutos após a MPA (Mbasal e Mmpa); após o início da infusão (Mic); a cada 10 minutos até 90 minutos (M10, M20, M30, M40, M50, M60, M70, M80 e M90); e 30 minutos após o fim da infusão (M120). Foi observada bradicardia em Mmpa no GCD e de Mmpa a M10 no GDD. Ocorreu hipotensão em Mmpa e hipertensão a partir de Mic. A f diminuiu de M10 a M30. Foram observados: onda T de alta amplitude, bloqueios atrioventriculares e parada sinusal. Ocorreu acidose respiratória. O período de recuperação foi de 219,6±72,3 minutos no GCD e de 234,1±96,8 minutos no GDD. A cetamina e a dextrocetamina, associadas à detomidina por infusão contínua, causam efeitos cardiorrespiratórios e anestésicos similares.

ABSTRACT The combination of detomidine and ketamine or dextrocetamine for continuous intravenous infusion was compared in eight female dogs submitted to two protocols: GCD - 5mg/kg of anesthetic induction and continuous intravenous infusion of ketamine 20mg/kg/h; and GDD - induction with 3.5mg/kg and infusion of 14mg/kg/h of dextrocetamine. Detomidine, 30µg/kg/h was associated in both groups. Heart rate (HR), blood pressure (BP), respiratory rate (RR), temperature (CT), myorelaxation, analgesia, blood gas analysis and electrocardiogram were recorded before and 15 minutes after MPA (Mbasal and Mmpa); after the start of infusion (Mic); every 10 minutes to 90 minutes (M10, M20, M30, M40, M50, M60, M70, M80 and M90); and 30 minutes after the end of infusion (M120). Bradycardia was observed in Mmpa in GCD and from Mmpa to M10 in GDD. There was hypotension in Mmpa and hypertension from Mic. The RR decreased from M10 to M30. High amplitude T wave, atrioventricular blocks and sinus arrest were observed. Respiratory acidosis occurred. The recovery period was 219.6±72.3 minutes in GCD and 234.1±96.8 minutes in GDD. Ketamine and S+ ketamine associated with detomidine for continuous infusion cause cardiorespiratory and similar anesthetic effects.

RESUMO: O ácido 2-cloroetilfosfônico (ethephon) e o carbureto de cálcio são usados para induzir e sincronizar a floração da cultura do abacaxi. Alguns produtores têm utilizado, em associação com esses indutores do florescimento, o herbicida 2,4-D. Essa prática baseia-se na hipótese de que o 2,4-D atua como regulador de crescimento, aumentando o tamanho e peso dos frutos. Diante disso, os objetivos deste trabalho foram verificar se a utilização do 2,4-D, associado ao carbureto de cálcio ou ao ethephon, influencia a produtividade e qualidade dos frutos do abacaxizeiro e, também, se o uso desse herbicida deixa resíduos nos frutos. Para isso, foram realizados dois experimentos de campo em duas fazendas. Os tratamentos consistiram da aplicação de ethephon e carbureto de cálcio, isoladamente e em mistura com duas, quatro e seis gotas de 2,4-D no centro da roseta foliar do abacaxizeiro cv. Pérola aos 10 meses após o seu plantio. O uso de 2,4-D em mistura com o carbureto de cálcio ou o ethephon, independentemente da dose e do ambiente de cultivo, não influenciou o tamanho, peso, teor de sólidos solúveis totais, densidade e pH dos frutos de abacaxi. Todavia, dependendo do ambiente de cultivo, as misturas de ethephon + 2,4-D não influenciaram ou reduziram o florescimento e a produtividade da cultura. Não foram encontrados resíduos do 2,4-D na polpa dos frutos do abacaxi. Concluiu-se que o uso de 2,4-D associado ao carbureto de cálcio ou ao ethephon como regulador de crescimento do abacaxi, nas condições avaliadas, não incorpora benefícios qualitativos ou quantitativos ao sistema produtivo dessa cultura. Além disso, não foram encontrados resíduos de 2,4-D na polpa dos frutos de abacaxi.

ABSTRACT: The 2-Chloroethylphosphonic acid (ethephon) and calcium carbide are used to induce and synchronize the flowering of pineapple crop. Some farmers have used the 2,4-D herbicide in combination with these flowering inducers. This practice is based on the hypothesis that 2,4-D would act as a growth regulator, increasing fruit size and weight. The objectives of this work was to verify if the use of 2,4-D, associated to calcium carbide or ethephon, influences the productivity and quality of the pineapple fruits and, also if the use of this herbicide leaves residues in the fruits. For this, two field experiments were carried out in two different farms. The treatments consisted of the application of ethephon and calcium carbide, alone, and in a mixture with two, four and six drops of 2,4-D in the center of the leaflet of the pineapple cv. “Pérola” at 10 months after planting. The use of 2,4-D mixed with calcium carbide or ethephon, regardless of the dose and culture environment, did not influence the size, weight, total soluble solids content, density and pH of the pineapple fruits. However, depending on the growing environment, ethephon + 2,4-D mixtures did not influence or reduce flowering and crop yield. No 2,4-D residues were found in the fruit pulp of pineapple. It was concluded that the use of 2,4-D as a growth regulator of pineapple under the conditions evaluated does not incorporate qualitative or quantitative benefits to the productive system of this crop. In addition, no 2,4-D residues were found in the fruit pulp of pineapple.

RESUMO O controle químico das plantas daninhas é prática consolidada na agricultura em larga escala. No entanto, quando os herbicidas são utilizados da forma incorreta, eles podem permanecer no solo por longos períodos e/ou serem lixiviados no seu perfil, podendo contaminar águas subterrâneas. Nesta pesquisa foi estimada, por método biológico, a lixiviação do clomazone em amostras de solos, coletados em diferentes regiões do Brasil. Para isso, foram usadas colunas contendo os solos, seccionadas de 5 em 5 cm. Após o preparo das colunas e aplicação do clomazone na dose de 1.500 g i.a. ha-1, foi feita a simulação das chuvas (60 e 90 mm). O sorgo foi utilizado para detecção do herbicida. Similaridade superior a 60% foi constatada nas variáveis em estudo, optando-se por utilizar apenas os dados referentes à porcentagem de intoxicação. O clomazone não causou intoxicação ao sorgo cultivado no Organossolo indicando forte sorção do herbicida nesse solo. O aumento do pH do Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo reduziu a lixiviação. Maior precipitação causou aumento da lixiviação do herbicida no Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo (pH 5,1) e no Neossolo Quartzarênico. A maior lixiviação ocorreu em solos com menor pH e menor teor de matéria orgânica. Conclui-se que, em solos com maiores teores de matéria orgânica, o clomazone tem menor risco de ser lixiviado.

ABSTRACT The chemical control of weed is a necessary practice in large-scale agriculture. However, when herbicides are used in the wrong way, they can remain into soil for long periods and/or be leached in its profile, and they may even contaminate groundwater. In this research, clomazone leaching in soil samples collected from different Brazilian regions was estimated by biological method. To do so, columns containing soils were used, and samples were collected every 5 cm. After preparing columns and applying a 1,500 g a.i. ha-1 clomazone dose, rain simulation was performed. Sorghum was used in order to detect the herbicide. More than 60% similarity was found for the studied variables; it was chosen to use only data referring to toxicity percentage. Clomazone did not cause reduction in sorghum cultivated in Organosol, thus indicating a strong herbicide sorption in this soil. Increased pH in Oxisol reduced leaching. More rainfall caused increased herbicide leaching in Oxisol (pH 5.1) and Quartzarenic Neosol. The highest leaching occurred in soils with lower pH and lower organic matter content. It is possible to conclude that, in soils with higher organic matter content, clomazone has lower risks of being leached.

RESUMO As plantas daninhas, se não controladas no momento adequado, reduzem a produtividade e longevidade dos canaviais. Nesta cultura, o método químico de controle das plantas daninhas, por ser eficiente e de menor custo, é o mais utilizado. No campo, tem-se observado tolerância diferenciada de cultivares de cana-de-açúcar ao herbicida clomazone. Contudo, não existe comprovação científica desse efeito sobre a produtividade dos cultivares. Neste trabalho foram avaliados os efeitos do clomazone em três cultivares de cana-de-açúcar (RB966928, RB93579 e RB867515). A aplicação do herbicida foi feita aos 40 dias após emergência das plantas de cana, e aos 7, 14, 21 e 28 dias após a aplicação foram avaliadas as intoxicações causadas pelo herbicida na cultura, atribuindo-se notas que variaram de 0 (ausência de intoxicação) até 100 (morte das plantas). Aos 580 dias após a aplicação foi realizada a colheita da cultura. Nessa ocasião, foram avaliados o comprimento e diâmetro do colmo, número de perfilho, tonelada de colmos por hectare, sólidos solúveis totais do caldo, sacarose do caldo, pureza aparente do caldo, fibra da cana, açúcares redutores e açúcares totais recuperáveis. Foi confirmada a tolerância diferenciada entre cultivares de cana-de-açúcar à aplicação do clomazone no início de desenvolvimento da cultura. Entretanto, os sintomas de intoxicação desapareceram ao longo do tempo e não refletiram na produtividade da cultura. Concluiu-se que o controle de plantas na cultura da cana-de-açúcar com o clomazone, seguindo a recomendação do fabricante, não interfere no crescimento, no desenvolvimento e na produtividade da cultura.

ABSTRACT Weed control is one of the most relevant costs of sugarcane production. If weeds are not controlled at the right time, the productivity and longevity of sugarcane plantations are reduced. In this crop, chemical control is the most used method, since it is efficient and it has a lower cost. Differentiated tolerance of sugarcane cultivars to the herbicide clomazone has been observed in the fields. However, there is no scientific evidence of this effect on the productivity of crops. This study evaluated the effects of clomazone on three sugarcane cultivars (RB966928, RB93579 and RB867515). Herbicide application was performed 40 days after the emergence of sugarcane plants and 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after the application, the toxicity caused by the herbicide in the culture was evaluated through grades ranging from 0 (no toxicity) to 100 (plant death). The harvest was performed 580 days after the herbicide application. On this occasion, the length and diameter of the stem, number of tillers, tons of stems per hectare, total soluble solids of the juice, sucrose of the juice, apparent purity of the juice, sugarcane fiber, reducing sugars and total recoverable sugars were evaluated. The differential tolerance among sugarcane cultivars in response to clomazone application in the early stages of crop development was confirmed. Nevertheless, in all cultivars, the symptoms of intoxication disappeared over time and did not reflect on crop productivity. It was concluded that plant control in the sugarcane crop with clomazone, following the recommendation of the manufacturer, does not interfere negatively in the growth, development and productivity of the crop.

RESUMO O conhecimento da sorção de herbicidas pelos coloides permite prever a sua movimentação no perfil do solo, além de sua eficiência no controle das plantas daninhas e da intoxicação de culturas, quando aplicado diretamente no solo. Esse conhecimento torna-se ainda mais importante para os herbicidas que apresentam longa persistência no solo. Nesta pesquisa foi estimada, por método biológico, a sorção do clomazone em amostras de solos brasileiros com diferentes características físicas e químicas, cultivados com a cultura da cana-de-açúcar. Como indicador da presença do clomazone no solo foi utilizado Sorghum bicolor. Os dados obtidos referentes às avaliações da intoxicação e ao acúmulo de matéria seca das plantas foram submetidos a análise multivariada de similaridade entre as variáveis. Após isso, foram estimadas as doses do clomazone que causaram 50% de intoxicação nas plantas de sorgo cultivadas (C50) e, também, a relação de sorção (RS) do herbicida nos diferentes tipos de solo. Verificou-se similaridade superior a 80% para os dados referentes a porcentagem de intoxicação e matéria seca acumulada, optando-se por utilizar apenas aqueles relativos à primeira variável. A RS e a C50 foram maiores no Organossolo e menores no Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo com e sem alteração do pH. Concluiu-se que a dose do clomazone a ser recomendada deve ser diferenciada para solos distintos, pois o valor da sorção do clomazone no solo é dependente de seus atributos, sendo o teor de matéria orgânica o de maior importância.

ABSTRACT Knowledge of herbicides sorption by colloids predicts its movement in the soil profile and its effectiveness in controlling weeds and crops poisoning when directly applied to the soil. This knowledge becomes even more important for herbicides which have long persistence in the soil. In this research, clomazone sorption was estimated by the biological method in Brazilian soil samples with different physical and chemical characteristics, cultivated with sugarcane crops. As an indicator of the presence of clomazone in the soil, Sorghum bicolor was used. The data relating to assessments of poisoning and accumulation of dry matter of the plants were subjected to multivariate analysis of similarity among variables. After that, clomazone doses that caused 50% of intoxication in sorghum plants grown (C50) as well as sorption ratio (SR) of the herbicide in different soil types were estimated. There was similarity greater than 80% for data regarding the percentage of intoxication and accumulated dry matter, with the option to use only those related to the first variable. RS and C50 were higher in Organosol and lower in red-yellow Latosol with and without changing the pH. It was concluded that the clomazone dose to be recommended must be differentiated for different soils, since the value of clomazone sorption in the soil is dependent on its attributes, and the organic matter content is of the utmost importance.

This work sought to evaluate the effects of chronic intake of flaxseed upon hematologic parameters and immunological findings on body development of Wistar rats. Female Wistar rats were used after gestation. They were randomly assigned into two groups during lactation period: Control group (CG), fed with casein based diet, made up of 17% protein and flaxseed group (FG), fed with casein based diet with the addition of 25% flaxseed. At weaning, 12 male pups of each group continued to receive the experimental diets of their mothers (with only 10% of protein) until adult age, when they were killed at 250 days of life aiming at blood collection. At 250 days old FG presented significant reduction in body mass (p < 0.000) and higher levels of hemoglobin (p = 0.019) and albumin (p = 0.030) than CG. It was observed smaller percentage of segmented lymphocytes (p = 0.016) in rats from FG and bigger percentage of segmented leucocytes (p = 0.023) when compared to CG. The chronic consumption of flaxseed altered hematologic and immunological indicators in adult Wistar rats. Supplementation with flaxseed seems to be beneficial to maintenance or reduction of body mass.

Este trabajo pretendía evaluar el efecto de la ingestión crónica de linaza sobre parámetros hematológicos y hallazgos inmunológicos del desarrollo corporal de ratas Wistar. Se emplearon ratas hembra Wistar tras la gestación. Se las distribuyó al azar en dos grupos durante el período de lactancia: grupo control (GC), alimentado con una dieta basada en caseína, con un 17% de proteína y el grupo linaza (GF), alimentado con una dieta basada en caseína con la adición de un 25% de linaza. En el destete, 12 ratas macho continuaron recibiendo las dietas experimentales consumidas por sus madres (con sólo el 10% de proteína) hasta la edad adulta, en que fueron sacrificados a los 250 días de vida para la recogida de las muestras. A los 250 días de edad, el GF presentaba una reducción significativa de la masa corporal (p < 0,000) y mayores concentraciones de hemoglobina (p = 0,019) y albúmina (p = 0,030) que el GC. Se observó un menor porcentaje de linfocitos segmentados (p = 0,016) en las ratas del GF y un mayor porcentaje de leucocitos segmentados (p = 0,023) en comparación con el GC. El consumo crónico de linaza alteró los indicadores hematológicos e inmunológicos en las ratas Wistar adultas. La suplementación con linaza parece ser beneficiosa en el mantenimiento o la reducción de la masa corporal.

In the present study, 470 children less than 72 months of age and presenting acute diarrhea were examined to identify associated enteropathogenic agents. Viruses were the pathogens most frequently found in stools of infants with diarrhea, including 111 cases of rotavirus (23.6% of the total diarrhea cases) and 30 cases of adenovirus (6.3%). The second group was diarrheogenic Escherichia coli (86 cases, 18.2%), followed by Salmonella sp (44 cases, 9.3%) and Shigella sp (24 cases, 5.1%). Using the PCR technique to differentiate the pathogenic categories of E. coli, it was possible to identify 29 cases (6.1%) of enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC). Of these, 10 (2.1%) were typical EPEC and 19 (4.0%) atypical EPEC. In addition, there were 26 cases (5.5%) of enteroaggregative E. coli, 21 cases (4.4%) of enterotoxigenic E. coli, 7 cases (1.4%) of enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC), and 3 cases (0.6%) of enterohemorrhagic E. coli. When comparing the frequencies of diarrheogenic E. coli, EPEC was the only category for which significant differences were found between diarrhea and control groups. A low frequency of EIEC was found, thus EIEC cannot be considered to be a potential etiology agent of diarrhea. Simultaneous infections with two pathogens were found in 39 diarrhea cases but not in controls, suggesting associations among potential enteropathogens in the etiology of diarrhea. The frequent association of diarrheogenic E. coli strains was significantly higher than the probability of their random association, suggesting the presence of facilitating factor(s).

Belostoma anurum foi criada no laboratório em condição semi-natural de fotoperíodo. A taxa de mortalidade durante o período pós-embrionário (38,6 ± 0,7 dias) foi de 26,3%. Durante este período a predação média de B. glabrata foi de 99,0 ± 9,4 caramujos. A média de incremento de comprimento e de peso seco por estádio ninfal foi de 1,4 ± 0,1 e 2,8 ± 0,5, respectivamente. A predação por adultos de B. anurum pode ser dividida em duas fases significativamente distintas: fase I (4,8 ± 1,4 caramujos/dia) e fase II (1,8 ± 0,5 caramujos/ dia). A maior predação verificada na fase I deve-se provavelmente à maturação sexual do belostomatídeo.

Belostoma anurum was reared under laboratory conditions. Specimens were exposed to semi-natural conditions of photo period. The mortality rate was 26.3% during the post embryonic period (38.6 ± 0.7 days). During this time the average predation of Biomphalaria glabrata was of 99.0 ± 9.4 snails. The mean increment ratio of length and dry weight per instar was of 1.4 ± 0.1 and 2.8 ± 0.5, respectively. The predation by B. anurum adults can be divided into two different periods: phase I (4.8 ± 1.4 snails/day) and phase II (1.8 ± 0.5 snails/day). The higher predation in phase I suggested the sexual maturation of the belostomatid.

Para estudar a transformação da cercária em esquistossômulo in vivo, sob a influência de um composto ativo contra o Schistosoma mansoni, foi escolhida a técnica da inoculação de cercárias na cavidade peritoneal de camundongos. Este procedimento se mostrou reproduzivel epromoveu uma rápida efácil recuperação das larvas após a lavagem das vísceras abdominais com solução apropriada. Os resultados obtidos sugerem que altas doses de oxamniquine (via intramuscular), uma hora antes da infecção, produzem um evidente atraso na cinética do processo de transformação da cercária em es-quistossômulo. Cercárias, corpos cercarianos e esquistossômulos foram recuperados da cavidade peritoneal de camundongos tratados em números diferentes daqueles recuperados dos animais controles.

To study the cercaria-schistosomulum transformation in vivo, underthe influence of an antischistosomal compound (oxamniquine), a model using cercarial infections into the abdominal cavity of mice was chosen. This procedure provided easy and reproducible recoveries of larvae from peritoneal washings with appropriate solutions for a long time (30 to 180 min) after inoculation. The results show that high doses of oxamniquine (given intramuscularly one hour before the infection) produce a marked delay in the kinetics of the cercaria-schistosomulum transformation. Cercariae, tail-less cercarial bodies and schistosomula were recovered from the peritoneal cavity ofdrug treated mice in numbers significantly different from those recovered from untreated mice.
