Resumo Uma nova e distinta espécie de Pareiorhaphis é descrita da bacia do rio Uruguai, no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, sul do Brasil. A nova espécie é um cascudo hypoptopomatíneo de pequeno tamanho, com comprimento padrão máximo inferior a 50 mm. Os espécimes foram capturados em habitats de fundo rochoso em várias localidades da bacia do rio Ijuí. Apesar de ocorrer em córregos de cabeceira de fluxo rápido com fundo rochoso como as demais espécies de Pareiorhaphis, esta é a primeira espécie coletada também no canal principal do trecho médio de um grande afluente do rio Uruguai. A nova espécie é prontamente diagnosticada de todos os seus congêneres pelo número reduzido de raios ramificados da nadadeira anal, presença de spinelet da nadadeira dorsal bem desenvolvido, número comparativamente menor de placas na série lateral média, e baixo número de dentes em cada dentário. Além disso, características osteológicas relacionadas ao esqueleto caudal também são úteis para distinguir a nova espécie da maioria das congêneres.

Abstract A new, very distinctive species of Pareiorhaphis is described from the rio Uruguai basin, in Rio Grande do Sul State, southern Brazil. Pareiorhaphis pumila, new species, is a small bodied hypoptopomatine catfish with a maximum standard length barely reaching 50 mm. The specimens were captured from rock-bottomed habitats in various localities in the rio Ijuí basin. Despite occurring in rock-bottomed fast-flowing headwater stream tributaries as the other species of Pareiorhaphis, this is the first species collected also in the main channel of the middle stretch of a large tributary to the rio Uruguai. The new species is promptly diagnosed from all its congeners by the reduced number of anal-fin branched rays, possession of well-developed dorsal-fin spinelet, comparatively lower number of plates in median lateral series, and low number of teeth in each dentary. In addition, osteological features related to the caudal skeleton are also useful to distinguish the new species from most congeners.

Abstract Introduction The Internet Gaming Disorder Scale – Short Form (IGDS9-SF) assesses the severity, harmful effects and/or consequences of excessive online and offline gaming. Its conciseness and theoretical foundations on current diagnostic criteria of gaming disorders make it a useful resource for clinical and screening settings. Objective To describe the process of cross-cultural adaptation of the IGDS9-SF to the Brazilian context. Methods The cross-cultural adaptation involved the steps of independent translation of the instrument, synthesis version, back-translation, pre-test and elaboration of the final version. Content validity assessment was conducted by a multidisciplinary committee of experts and consisted of both a quantitative analysis (calculation of content validity coefficients – CVC) and a qualitative analysis (assessment of the experts’ comments and suggestions). The pre-test sample consisted of 30 gamers with variable sociodemographic characteristics. Results The cross-cultural adaptation of the scale followed the proposed protocol, and the CVC was satisfactory (≥ 0.83) for all the structures and equivalences assessed. Most of the suggestions made by the experts were accepted (mainly adjustments and language standardization). The gamers who participated in the pre-test judged the scale easy to understand and did not suggest changes. Discussion The Brazilian version of the IGDS9-SF showed adequate content validity and is available for researchers and clinicians, as well as for the investigation of additional psychometric characteristics.

Abstract: This study evaluated the antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant effect of 7-hydroxy-4’,6-dimethoxy-isoflavone and essential oil of Myroxylon peruiferum. The compound was isolated and its structure elucidated by NMR. The chemical composition of essential oil determined by GC-MS analysis. To evaluation of antimicrobial activity, the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) and Minimum Fungicidal Concentration (MFC) were performed. In addition to analysis of antioxidant activity, DPPH radical scavenging tests, iron chelating assay (FIC), antioxidant reducing power assay (FRAP) and β-carotene bleaching assay (BCB) were performed. For the essential oil were identified 24 organized compounds having as main constituents; Germacrene D (17.2%), α-pinene (14.8%) and E-caryophyllene (10.8%). The results showed that isoflavone (2000 to 156 μg/mL) and essential oil (5.0 to 1.25%) present antibacterial and antifungal activity against Gram-positive bacteria and filamentous fungi. The isoflavone and the essential oil also presented antioxidant activity in all the tests, mainly on inhibition of the oxidation of β-carotene test concentrations ranging from 60 to 100%. In conclusion, isoflavone and essential oil from M. peruiferum present an antimicrobial alternative against Gram-positive bacteria, especially of the genus Staphylococcus and dermatophyte fungi of the genus Trichophyton, as well as a natural compound antioxidant.

RESUMO Uma nova espécie de loricariídeo do gênero Pareiorhaphis é descrita com base em espécimes coletados em vários tributários da parte superior e média da bacia do rio Jequitinhonha, no estado de Minas Gerais, leste do Brasil. A nova espécie eleva para 25 o número de espécies conhecidas de Pareiorhaphis e ao mesmo tempo representa o segundo registro de um membro de Neoplecostominae na bacia do rio Jequitinhonha. A nova espécie é diagnosticada de todas as demais congêneres por uma característica até então única relacionada ao padrão de colorido, uma faixa marrom escura bem definida na série média de placas laterais, que se estende ao longo do flanco, desde a margem posterior do pterótico composto até a base dos raios médios da nadadeira caudal. O pedúnculo caudal baixo e o número de dentes comparativamente alto no dentário, também distinguem a nova espécie da maioria das demais congêneres. A nova espécie é comparada com Pareiorhaphis stephanus, uma congênere sintópica com caracteres similares.

ABSTRACT A new species of the loricariid genus Pareiorhaphis is described based on specimens from several tributaries of the upper and middle rio Jequitinhonha basin, Minas Gerais State, eastern Brazil. The new species increases the number of known species of Pareiorhaphis to 25 and, at the same time, represents the second member of the subfamily Neoplecostominae reported from the rio Jequitinhonha basin. The new species is diagnosed from all remaining congeners by a putative autapomorphic feature related to the color pattern: a well-defined, dark brown stripe on the median series of lateral plates that extends along the flank from the posterior margin of compound pterotic to the caudal-fin base. The shallow caudal peduncle and the comparatively larger number of dentary teeth also distinguish the new species from most congeners. The new species is also compared to Pareiorhaphis stephanus, a syntopic congener with similar traits.

Uma espécie nova de cascudo do gênero Pareiorhaphisé descrita da porção média e superior da bacia do rio Paraguaçu, drenagem costeira do estado da Bahia, nordeste do Brasil. A espécie nova é facilmente diagnosticada das demais congêneres por apresentar duas possíveis autapomorfias: (1) uma prega de pele atrás de cada série emergente de dentes do dentário formada por uma única papila larga e achatada e (2) um conjunto de papilas distintas arranjadas em uma elevação curta localizada na linha média do lábio inferior. Além disso, a menor altura do pedúnculo caudal e o baixo número de dentes em cada dentário também distinguem a espécie nova de todas as congêneres. A espécie nova é ainda comparada com Pareiorhaphis bahianus, congênere geograficamente mais próximo.

A new armored catfish species of the genus Pareiorhaphis is described from the middle and upper portions of rio Paraguaçu basin, coastal drainage of Bahia State, northeastern Brazil. The new species is readily distinguished from all its congeners by having two putative autapomorphies: (1) skin fold just posterior to each emergent tooth series of dentary formed by a single enlarged, flattened papilla, and (2) the midline of lower lip immediately behind the dentaries with small patch of distinct papillae arranged in a short median bump. In addition, the shallow caudal peduncle and comparatively lower number of teeth in each dentary also distinguishes the new species from all congeners. The new species is also compared to Pareiorhaphis bahianus, the geographically closest congener.

Avaliaram-se os efeitos dos tratamentos com CO2 e 1-MCP (1-metilciclopropeno) sobre a adstringência (índice de tanino), firmeza da polpa e distúrbios da epiderme em caqui 'Rama Forte'. Frutos foram tratados com 1-MCP por 24 h, logo após a colheita e/ou com alto CO2 (70%) por 24 ou 48 h, um dia após a colheita ou após o armazenamento refrigerado (AR). Os caquis foram armazenados sob atmosfera modificada a 0 ºC, por 45 dias, e a seguir mantidos a 23 ºC, por 9 dias. Frutos-controle (não tratados com 1-MCP nem com CO2) amoleceram em três dias e perderam aproximadamente 50% da adstringência em 6 dias após o AR. A exposição ao CO2 acelerou a redução da adstringência. Esse efeito do CO2 foi menor em frutos tratados com 1-MCP, especialmente quando o CO2 foi aplicado após o AR, por apenas 24 h. O tratamento com 1-MCP inibiu o amolecimento e a redução da adstringência, especialmente nos frutos não tratados com CO2. O amolecimento de frutos tratados com 1-MCP foi maior quando a exposição ao CO2 ocorreu antes do AR. A combinação dos tratamentos com 1-MCP e alto CO2 reduziu a incidência de podridões e manchas translúcidas, mas não alterou o desenvolvimento de pintas pretas ('estrias'). Os resultados indicam que é possível induzir perda da adstringência sem excessiva perda da firmeza da polpa de caquis 'Rama Forte' após o AR pela associação dos tratamentos com 1-MCP logo após a colheita e alto CO2 após o AR.

This study evaluated the effects of CO2 and 1-MCP (1-methylcyclopropene) treatments on astringency (tannin index), flesh firmness and skin disorders on 'Rama Forte' persimmon. Fruit were treated with 1-MCP for 24 h right after harvest and/or with high CO2 (70% CO2 balanced with air) for 24 or 48 h, one day after harvest or after cold storage (CS). Fruit were stored in modified atmosphere for 45 days at 0ºC and then held at 23ºC for 9 days. Control fruit (untreated with neither 1-MCP nor CO2) softened in 3 days and lost about 50% of astringency in 6 days after CS. The high CO2 exposure enhanced the reduction of astringency. This CO2 effect was lesser on 1-MCP treated fruit, especially when high CO2 was applied after CS, for only 24 h. 1-MCP treatment inhibited fruit softening and the reduction of astringency, especially on fruit not treated with CO2. The softening of 1-MCP treated fruit was greater when the CO2 treatment was applied before CS. The combination of high CO2 and 1-MCP treatments reduced incidence of rots and translucent stains, but did not affect the development of dark 'groove like' skin disorders. The results indicate that it is possible to induce astringency loss without substantial loss of firmness of 'Rama Forte' persimmon by the combination of treatments with 1-MCP right after harvest and high CO2 after cold storage.

Uma população cavernícola do cascudo Isbrueckerichthys alipionis é registrada na Caverna Santana, na bacia do rio Betari, na área cárstica do Alto Ribeira, Iporanga, São Paulo, Brasil. A população cavernícola foi comparada com uma população epígea de I. alipionis e nenhuma diferença significativa foi encontrada em morfologia ou grau de pigmentação. Como a população cavernícola é conhecida há pelo menos 30 anos e aparentemente está isolada de cursos d'água epígeos, ela é classificada como troglófila. A descoberta dessa espécie troglofílica na Caverna Santana é um forte argumento adicional para a conservação dessa caverna.

A cave population of the armored catfish Isbrueckerichthys alipionis is reported from the Santana Cave, in the rio Betari watershed, Upper Ribeira karst area, Iporanga, São Paulo State, southeastern Brazil. The cave population was compared to an epigean population of I. alipionis and no significant differences where found in morphology or degree of pigmentation. As the cave population is known for at least 30 years and is apparently isolated from epigean streams, it is classified as troglophilic. The discovery of this troglophilic species in the Santana Cave is an additional strong argument for the conservation of that cave.

Pareiorhaphis nasuta, um novo cascudo neoplecostomíneo da família Loricariidae é descrito. Os exemplares foram capturados nas cabeceiras do rio Matipó, tributário do rio Doce no Estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. A nova espécie é facilmente diagnosticada entre todos os demais congêneres pelo maior comprimento do focinho e pelo menor diâmetro orbital. Esta nova espécie representa o primeiro registro do gênero Pareiorhaphis na bacia do rio Doce, expandindo a sua distribuição geográfica. Uma diagnose filogenética é apresentada para Pareiorhaphis.

Pareiorhaphis nasuta, a new neoplecostomine catfish of the family Loricariidae is described. The species was collected from headwaters of the rio Matipó, tributary of the upper rio Doce basin in State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The new species is readily diagnosed from all remaining congeners by the longer snout and by the smaller orbital diameter. The new species is the first representative of the genus Pareiorhaphis discovered in the rio Doce basin, thus expanding its geographic distribution. A phylogenetic diagnosis for Pareiorhaphis is presented.

Isbrueckerichthys epakmos, nova espécie, é descrita a partir de exemplares capturados em afluentes do rio Juquiá, bacia do rio Ribeira de Iguape no estado de São Paulo, Brasil. A nova espécie se distingue dos outros congeneres pela presença em machos adultos de uma área intumescida bem desenvolvida e um conjunto de odontódeos hipertrofiados curtos e inclinados para frente ou ligeiramente voltados para cima na porção anterior do focinho. A nova espécie é comparada com I. duseni e I. alipionis que ocorrem simpatricamente na bacia do rio Ribeira de Iguape. Uma chave de identificação para as espécies de Isbrueckerichthys é fornecida.

Isbrueckerichthys epakmos, new species, is described from the tributaries of the rio Juquiá, rio Ribeira de Iguape basin, São Paulo State, Brazil. The new species displays a unique sexual dimorphism. Mature males are distinguished from its congeners by having a well-developed soft fleshy area and a clump of hypertrophied short odontodes directed forward or slightly upward on anterior portion of snout. It is compared with I. duseni and I. alipionis, which occurs sympatrically in the rio Ribeira de Iguape drainage. A key to the species of Isbrueckerichthys is provided.
