ABSTRACT Objective: To systematically review the literature in search of the most suitable and effective nutritional interventions and indications for the nutritional treatment of children and adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP). Data source: This review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The articles were selected from seven databases (Cochrane, Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde — Lilacs, Embase, United States National Library of Medicine — PubMed, Scientific Electronic Library Online — SciELO, Scopus, and Web of Science). Studies from a pediatric group (0 to 18 years old) diagnosed with CP were included and the search strategy included the descriptors: “children” OR “childhood” AND “nutritional therapy” OR “nutritional intervention” OR “nutrition” OR “nutritional support” OR “diet” AND “cerebral palsy” OR “cerebral injury”. Methodological quality was assessed using the checklist for cross-sectional analytical studies, the Newcastle-Ottawa scale or the Cochrane Collaboration tool for clinical trials. Data synthesis: Fifteen studies (n=658) published from 1990 to 2020 met the inclusion criteria. All of them had a low risk of bias. The data showed that children and adolescents with CP have worse nutritional status than those normally developed. Those who received hypercaloric and hyperprotein nutritional supplementation benefited from its use. Studies indicate that enteral nutrition should be considered when nutritional needs are not met by the oral diet, especially in cases where oral motor functions are impaired. In addition, there was a direct relationship between the consistency of food, the level of motor function and nutritional status. Conclusions: Children and adolescents with CP have a greater risk of malnutrition. The use of nutritional supplementation may help with weight gain. RESUMO Objetivo: Revisar sistematicamente a literatura em busca das intervenções e indicações nutricionais mais adequadas e eficazes para o tratamento nutricional de crianças e adolescentes com paralisia cerebral (PC). Fontes de dados: Esta revisão foi conduzida de acordo com as diretrizes Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses — PRISMA. Os artigos foram selecionados em sete bases de dados (Cochrane, Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde — Lilacs, Embase, United States National Library of Medicine — PubMed, Scientific Electronic Library Online — SciELO, Scopus, and Web of Science). Foram incluídos estudos de um grupo pediátrico (zero a 18 anos) com diagnóstico de PC e a estratégia de busca incluiu os descritores: “children” OR “childhood” AND “nutritional therapy” OR “nutritional intervention” OR “nutrition” OR “nutritional support” OR “diet” AND “cerebral palsy” OR “cerebral injury”. A qualidade metodológica foi avaliada utilizando a lista de verificação para estudos transversais analíticos, escala Newcastle-Ottawa ou ferramenta da Cochrane Collaboration, para ensaios clínicos. Síntese dos dados: Quinze estudos (n=658) publicados de 1990 a 2020 preencheram os critérios de inclusão. Todos tiveram baixo risco de viés. Os dados mostraram que crianças e adolescentes com PC apresentam pior estado nutricional do que os normalmente desenvolvidos. Aqueles que receberam suplementação nutricional hipercalórica e hiperproteica beneficiaram-se de seu uso. Estudos demonstram que a nutrição enteral deve ser considerada quando as necessidades nutricionais não são supridas pela dieta oral, principalmente nos casos em que as funções oromotoras estão prejudicadas. Além disso, houve relação direta entre a consistência dos alimentos, o nível de função motora e o estado nutricional. Conclusões: Crianças e adolescentes com PC têm maior risco de desnutrição. O uso de suplementação nutricional pode auxiliar no ganho de peso desses pacientes. Além disso, a nutrição enteral e a modificação da textura dos alimentos têm sido artifícios utilizados para a melhora do estado nutricional neste grupo. Objetivo PC. . RESUMEN Objetivos: analizar las acciones de educación continua en enfermería en la literatura científica frente a la homofobia. Métodos: revisión integrativa de la literatura con búsqueda estructurada en junio de 2022 en ocho bases de datos, utilizando los descriptores Nursing Education, Homophobia, Sexual and Gender Minorities. La muestra final estuvo compuesta por seis estudios primarios. Resultados: las acciones de educación continua en enfermería se apoyan en estrategias como el uso de materiales didácticos, conferencias, estudios de casos y grupos focales, abordando contenidos como cuestiones de identidad de género y orientación afectivo-sexual, disparidades en salud y su relación con la homofobia en el ámbito de la salud. Consideraciones finales: realizadas en diversos ámbitos de atención de salud, las acciones de educación continua demostraron ser exitosas en la sensibilización de los enfermeros para enfrentar la homofobia en los servicios de salud, sin embargo, su ampliación es necesaria para crear espacios de salud que atiendan las necesidades específicas de estas personas. ABSTRACT Background: Critical illness is a major ongoing health care burden worldwide and is associated with high mortality rates. Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors have consistently shown benefits in cardiovascular and renal outcomes. The effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors in acute illness have not been properly investigated. Methods: DEFENDER is an investigator-initiated, multicenter, randomized, open-label trial designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of dapagliflozin in 500 adult participants with acute organ dysfunction who are hospitalized in the intensive care unit. Eligible participants will be randomized 1:1 to receive dapagliflozin 10mg plus standard of care for up to 14 days or standard of care alone. The primary outcome is a hierarchical composite of hospital mortality, initiation of kidney replacement therapy, and intensive care unit length of stay, up to 28 days. Safety will be strictly monitored throughout the study. Conclusion: DEFENDER is the first study designed to investigate the use of a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor in general intensive care unit patients with acute organ dysfunction. It will provide relevant information on the use of drugs of this promising class in critically ill patients. RESUMO Antecedentes: A doença crítica é um importante ônus permanente da assistência médica em todo o mundo e está associada a altas taxas de mortalidade. Os inibidores do cotransportador de sódio-glicose do tipo 2 têm demonstrado consistentemente benefícios nos desfechos cardiovasculares e renais. Os efeitos dos inibidores do cotransportador de sódio-glicose do tipo 2 em doenças agudas ainda não foram devidamente investigados. Métodos: O DEFENDER é um estudo de iniciativa do investigador, multicêntrico, randomizado, aberto, desenhado para avaliar a eficácia e a segurança da dapagliflozina em 500 participantes adultos com disfunção orgânica aguda hospitalizados na unidade de terapia intensiva. Os participantes aptos serão randomizados 1:1 para receber 10mg de dapagliflozina e o tratamento padrão por até 14 dias ou apenas o tratamento padrão. O desfecho primário é um composto hierárquico de mortalidade hospitalar, início de terapia renal substitutiva e tempo de internação na unidade de terapia intensiva, até 28 dias. O monitoramento da segurança será rigoroso durante todo o estudo. As comunidades quilombolas no Brasil possuem uma relação essencial com o território, pois, por meio da relação com a terra, as quilombolas autoafirmam a sua identidade étnico-racial. Este estudo reflete sobre como as mulheres do quilombo da Pinguela, localizado no interior do estado da Bahia, Brasil, constroem a sua identidade. O projeto foi desenvolvido a partir do Photovoice e de narrativas construídas nos marcos do diálogo autêntico e da sororidade. Os resultados revelam as principais questões vivenciadas pelas mulheres em seus cotidianos, como a disputa pelo território e a valorização da terra, além do cuidado com a comunidade e relações sociais baseadas na solidariedade. O estudo evidenciou o silenciamento histórico e constante das dificuldades enfrentadas por essa população, assim como a necessidade urgente de implementação de políticas públicas que reconheçam e respeitem os valores e direitos da população quilombola brasileira.

Quilombola communities in Brazil have an essential relationship with territory, as it is through their relationship with the land that Quilombolas affirm their ethnic-racial identity. This study reflects upon how women from the Pinguela quilombo in inland Bahia, Brazil, construct their identity. The project was developed using photovoice and narratives were created within a framework of authentic dialogue and sisterhood. The findings reveal the main problems faced by the women in their daily lives, including territorial disputes and valorization of land, as well as caring for the community and social relationships based on solidarity. The study evidenced the historic and constant silencing of the hardships faced by this population and the urgent need for the implementation of public policies that recognize and respect the values and rights of the Quilombola population in Brazil.

Las comunidades quilombolas en Brasil tienen una relación esencial con el territorio, puesto que por medio de la relación con la tierra las quilombolas autoafirman su identidad étnico-racial. Este estudio reflexiona sobre cómo las mujeres del quilombo de Pinguela, localizado en el interior del estado de Bahia, Brasil, construyen su identidad. El proyecto se desarrolló a partir del Photovoice y de las narrativas construidas en los marcos del diálogo auténtico y de la hermandad. Los resultados revelan las principales cuestiones vividas por las mujeres en su cotidiano, como la disputa por el territorio y la valorización de la tierra, además del cuidado con la comunidad y relaciones sociales basadas en la solidaridad. El estudio puso en evidencia el silenciamiento histórico y constante de las dificultades enfrentadas por esta población, así como la necesidad urgente de implementación de políticas públicas que reconozcan y respeten los valores y derechos de la población quilombola brasileña.

Resumo No Brasil, os racismos são estruturais e estruturantes, pois estão enraizados nos arcabouços das sociedades, nas relações interpessoais e nas instituições, atravessando as ocupações significativas dos sujeitos e coletivos. Isto explica as disparidades em diversos setores da sociedade brasileira, notadamente na empregabilidade das pessoas negras, bem como nos seus modos de adoecer e morrer. Entendendo o papel que os racismos desempenham nas ocupações das pessoas negras, este estudo propõe sistematizar observações que nos permitam compreender o fenômeno da produção de injustiças, com base em relações racializadas e, eventualmente, sugerir formas de enfrentamento dessa realidade. Desta forma, discutimos como os racismos foram instaurados no Brasil, reunindo elementos para a compreensão da ocupação humana e seus condicionantes. Em seguida, refletimos sobre os conceitos de justiça e injustiça ocupacional, que evidenciam os processos ocupacionais vivenciados pelas pessoas negras. Considerando que na terapia ocupacional e na ciência ocupacional brasileira ainda são incipientes os estudos que relacionam racismos e ocupação, apontamos algumas estratégias para reorientar as práticas profissionais de terapeutas ocupacionais, de modo a torná-las proativas e transformadoras.

Abstract In Brazil, the many forms of racisms are structural and structuring, since they are rooted deep within society, in interpersonal relationships, and in institutions, traversing significant occupations of subjects and collectives. This explains the disparities in various sectors of Brazilian society, notably in the employability of Black people, as well as in their forms of getting sick and dying. In understanding the role that racisms play in the occupations of Black people, this study proposes to systematize observations that allow us to understand the phenomenon of the production of injustices based on racialized relations and, eventually, suggest ways to confront this reality. Thus, we discuss how racisms were established in Brazil, gathering elements for the understanding of human occupation and its conditioning factors. We then reflect on the concepts of occupational justice and injustice, which bring light to the occupational processes experienced by Black people. Considering that, in occupational therapy and in Brazilian occupational science, studies relating racisms and occupation are still incipient, we point out some strategies to reorient occupational therapists, practices to make them proactive and transformative.

BACKGROUND Chikungunya is a mosquito-borne virus that has been causing large outbreaks in the Americas since 2014. In Brazil, Asian-Caribbean (AC) and East-Central-South-African (ECSA) genotypes have been detected and lead to large outbreaks in several Brazilian states. In Rio Grande do Sul (RS), the southernmost state of Brazil, the first cases were reported in 2016. OBJECTIVES AND METHODS We employed genome sequencing and epidemiological investigation to characterise the Chikungunya fever (CHIKF) burden in RS between 2017-2021. FINDINGS We detected an increasing CHIKF burden linked to travel associated introductions and communitary transmission of distinct lineages of the ECSA genotype during this period. MAIN CONCLUSIONS Until 2020, CHIKV introductions were most travel associated and transmission was limited. Then, in 2021, the largest outbreak occurred in the state associated with the introduction of a new ECSA lineage. Resumen Objetivo Mapear evidencias que discuten el cuidado transicional orientado al adulto mayor, del contexto hospitalario al domicilio, bajo la perspectiva del cuidador/adulto mayor. Métodos Revisión de alcance, basada en la orientación del Instituto Joanna Briggs (JBI). Se incluyeron las siguientes bases en la sistematización para la búsqueda de los estudios: LILACS, PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, CINAHL y Embase. Se realizó la revisión por pares independiente, seleccionada de acuerdo con los criterios. Luego se realizó el análisis de similitud en el software Iramuteq. Resultados La muestra estuvo compuesta por ocho estudios, publicados principalmente en el año 2016, que tenían como lugar predominante los Estados Unidos. Es posible observar que hubo mayor cuantitativo de dificultades y debilidades, después desafíos y, por último, posibilidades en la transición. Conclusión La transición del alta hospitalaria de adultos mayores a su casa es un proceso complejo y longitudinal, que incluye múltiples debilidades y dificultades para el paciente y sus cuidadores formales e informales, así como también existen posibilidades y desafíos que pueden ser estudiados. Abstract Objective To map evidence that discusses transitional care aimed at older adults, from hospital to home, from caregivers’/older adults’ perspective. Methods This is a scoping review, based on guidance from the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). The LILACS, PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, CINAHL and Embase databases were included in the systematization to search for studies. Independent peer review was performed, selected according to criteria. Then, similarity analysis was performed in Iramuteq. Results The sample consisted of 8 studies, published mainly in 2016, predominantly in the United States. It is possible to observe that there was a greater number of difficulties and weaknesses, followed by challenges and, finally, potential in transition. Conclusion Older adult transition from hospital to home is a complex and longitudinal process, which involves multiple weaknesses and difficulties for patients and their formal and informal caregivers, as well as there are potentialities and challenges to be explored. Abstract Objective To analyze the association between functionality and knowledge, attitudes, and practices of COVID-19 prevention in the elderly population of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. Method A cross-sectional study with remote data collection conducted between June and September 2020, involving 144 elderly individuals of both sexes who were served at COVID-19 reference points in eight districts. The dependent variable, knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to COVID-19 prevention, collected through the CAP Survey, was constructed using Latent Class Analysis. The primary independent variable was functionality in Instrumental Activities of Daily Living, collected through the Lawton and Brody scale. Data analysis utilized chi-square tests and multiple multinomial logistic regression analysis, with a significance level of 5%. Results The majority of the participants, 44%, exhibited regular knowledge and attitudes with good COVID-19 prevention practices. Independent participants had 4.26 times greater odds (95% CI: 1.46; 12.38) of possessing excellent knowledge, attitudes, and prevention practices for the disease. Those with higher levels of education had 3.89 times greater odds (95% CI: 1.16; 12.99) of having excellent knowledge, attitudes, and practices compared to those with no education. Both comparisons considered a 95% confidence interval. Conclusion COVID-19 prevention was influenced by functionality, indicating that greater functional independence led to better prevention among the elderly. This understanding directs public policies and actions aimed at the importance of disease prevention in the elderly population, as well as promoting healthy aging. Resumo Objetivo Analisar a associação entre funcionalidade e conhecimentos, atitudes e práticas de prevenção da covid-19 em pessoas idosas do município do Recife, Pernambuco, Brasil. Método Estudo transversal com coleta remota entre junho e setembro de 2020, junto a 144 pessoas idosas de ambos os sexos, atendidas nos pontos de referência da covid-19, distribuídos em oito distritos. A variável dependente, conhecimentos, atitudes e práticas de prevenção da covid-19, coletada através do Inquérito CAP, foi construída pela Análise de Classe Latente. A variável independente principal foi a funcionalidade para Atividades Instrumentais da Vida Diária, coletada através da escala de Lawton e Brody. A análise de dados utilizou teste qui-quadrado e análise múltipla de regressão logística multinomial, com significância 5%. Resultados A maioria dos estudados, 44%, apresentou conhecimentos e atitudes regulares e boa prática de prevenção da covid-19. Os participantes independentes apresentaram 4,26 (IC95% 1,46; 12,38) mais chances de ter conhecimentos, atitudes e práticas excelentes para a prevenção da doença. Já os com maior escolaridade apresentaram 3,89 (IC95% 1,16; 12,99) mais chances de ter conhecimentos, atitudes e práticas excelentes, comparados aos que nunca, ambas comparações consideraram intervalo de confiança 95%. Conclusão A prevenção da covid-19 sofreu influência da funcionalidade, mostrando-se que quanto maior a independência funcional, melhor a prevenção nas pessoas idosas. ABSTRACT Insects are fundamental to biodiversity conservation in almost all ecosystems, and their population decline, and extinction directly result from environmental impacts. These facts are aggravated by the lack of knowledge of insect biodiversity, the so-called biodiversity deficits, especially the Linnean and Wallacean shortfalls. In freshwater ecosystems, biodiversity loss is higher among aquatic insects, and caddisflies comprise one of the most vulnerable orders. In this way, research focusing on describing new caddisfly species and understanding their distribution ranges will increase knowledge of caddisfly biodiversity. In the past 14 years, the team from the Laboratório de Entomologia Aquática “Prof. Dr. Claudio Gilberto Froehlich” (LEAq, Universidade Federal da Bahia, Brazil) and collaborators have been addressing these issues, resulting in 55 described species of caddisflies. Taxa in other insect orders have also received attention and an additional 16 species have been described (eight mayflies, four stoneflies, four neuropteran spongillaflies, and antlions). Here, eight caddisfly species are described and illustrated (Atopsyche froehlichi sp. nov., Austrotinodes zeferina sp. nov., Cernotina kariri sp. nov., Neoathripsodes froehlichi sp. nov., Notalina claudiofroehlichi sp. nov., Oecetis marcus sp. nov., Phylloicus froehlichi sp. nov., and Polycentropus claudioi sp. nov.), five of them in honor of LEAq’s patron. In addition, new distributional data are presented for 10 known species. A checklist of the caddisfly fauna of Bahia state is also presented, with 138 species, around 75% and 30% of them recorded and described by the LEAq team, respectively. BACKGROUND: Since the colonization of Brazil in 1500, systemic, institutional, and relational racism has produced inequalities for its black and indigenous people. This legacy perpetuates white supremacy and intensifies social inequalities. PURPOSE: This Opinion Piece aims to raise reflexivity on racism in Brazil and its impacts on the occupations of black people within the context of occupational apartheid. KEY ISSUES: We start exploring social justice and occupational justice concepts to map a methodological path for the theoretically informed discussion. Then, we discuss the concept of collective occupations as a possibility for intervention in the face of racial inequalities and introduce some occupational therapy practices to exemplify strategies to tackle the identified challenges. IMPLICATIONS: We conclude by showing that the field of ethnic-racial relations is still only minimally explored in Brazilian occupational therapy. We also point out some possibilities for further studies in the area.

Abstract This study evaluated the presence of oral lesions in patients with COVID-19 hospitalized in an intensive care unit (ICU). Data included demographic, clinical, and laboratory information. Clinical assessment of the oral cavity was performed on the 2 nd and 5 th days of orotracheal intubation. Thirty-eight patients were evaluated and 16 (42.1%) presented oral lesions during their ICU stay. The median age and length of stay were 75 years and 15 days, respectively. Among the patients with oral lesions, ulcerative oral lesions were reported in 14 (87.5%) patients, of which 11 (78.6%) were found on the lips. This study highlights the importance of oral examination for patients admitted to the ICU with COVID-19.

Abstract The objective of this work is to investigate the conversion of spent coffee grounds (SCG) into biochar (BSC) and the ecotoxicological effects of the product obtained. The SCG and BSC were characterized by characterized by different techniques (TGA/DTG, FTIR, XRD, SEM, EDS, and EDXRF). Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H NMR) was used to characterize the aqueous extract of BSC. The inhibitory effect on lettuce (Lactuca sativa) germination was investigated. Besides, antimicrobial activity evaluation trials were conducted with Azospirillum brasilense and Trichoderma spp. The results showed that in the BSC production process, the extractives and lignocellulosic components in the SCG were partly decomposed. Tests conducted with microorganisms did not reveal any toxic effect of BSC. However, high phytotoxicity against lettuce was recorded for rate 100 t/ha of BSC. This effect was associated with the presence of carboxylic acids identified by 1H NMR in the BSC extract aqueous.

Abstract In this work eggshell membrane was added as biobased curing catalyst to epoxy (DGEBA), for comparison purposes the synthetic catalyst DEH 35 data was reported, the curing of compounds was followed through differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) under dynamic conditions and their kinetics were modeled using Kissinger, Friedman, Friedman model based and Málek approaches. From evaluated Ea and l n A two steps of curing were verified, for the synthetic catalyst compound (S5) Ea abruptly increased for the degree of conversion α > 0.7 the opposite trend was observed for the eggshell membrane compound (M10). It is supposed for S5 Ea increases due to the competitive reactions leading to viscosity increase until reach the solid phase with decrease of the reactive groups availability, hampering the cross-linking, whereas for M10 Ea decreases at α > 0.7, hence invalidating the Kissinger model which assumes constant Ea.
