ABSTRACT Soil quality, measured through its chemical, physical and microbiological attributes, changes as a result of anthropic sensations and becomes an important tool to assess environmental quality. The objective of this study was to determine and evaluate the Quality Index of an Ultisol in a long-term (17-yr) plots under different management systems in the Coastal Tablelands of Sergipe State, in Northeastern, Brazil. Main effects were conventional tillage (CT), no-tillage (NT), and minimum tillage (MT) distributed cultivated strips with corn as the main crop. Split-range treatments were randomly distributed and cultivated with cowpea beans (Vigna unguiculata), sunn hemp (Crotalaria juncea), pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan), and millet (Pennisetum glaucum). A forest soil was used as reference, compared to the soil samples of the cultivated area. The Soil Quality Index (SQI) for the 0-0.10 m layer was calculated by the additive method. There were changes in soil properties between the different management systems, and between the experimental soil and the reference area. The highest SQI was obtained from the forest area (67.1) followed by the NT treatment (65.5), MT (65.1) and CT treatment (61.0). The lowest SQI was observed in the CT treatment previously cultivated with pigeon pea (56.5). Among the evaluated soil functions, maintenance of homeostasis had the greatest influence on the SQI. The higher acidity of the forest soil helps to explain the origin of the limitations of the soil in the cultivated area that occupies the same type of soil, tolerated by the adoption of conservationist managements.

RESUMO A qualidade do solo, medida por meio de seus atributos químicos, físicos e microbiológicos, muda em função das interações antrópicas e torna-se uma importante ferramenta para avaliar a qualidade ambiental. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar e avaliar o Índice de Qualidade de um Argissolo em parcelas de longo prazo (17 anos) sob diferentes sistemas de manejo nos Tabuleiros Costeiros do Estado de Sergipe, Nordeste do Brasil. Os principais efeitos foram plantio convencional (CC), cultivo minimo (CM) e plantio direto (MT) distribuídos em faixas cultivadas com milho como cultura principal. Os tratamentos fracionados foram distribuídos aleatoriamente e cultivados com feijão-caupi (Vigna unguiculata), crotalária (Crotalaria juncea), feijão guandu (Cajanus cajan) e milheto (Pennisetum glaucum). Um solo florestal foi utilizado como referência. O Índice de Qualidade do Solo (IQS) para a camada de 0-0,10 m foi calculado pelo método aditivo. Houve mudanças nas propriedades do solo entre os diferentes sistemas de manejo, e entre o solo do experimento e a área de referência. O maior IQS foi obtido da área de floresta (67,1) seguido do tratamento PD (65,5), CM (65,1) e tratamento CC (61,0). O menor IQS foi observado no tratamento CC previamente cultivado com feijão guandu (56,5). Dentre as funções avaliadas do solo, a manutenção da homeostase teve a maior influência no IQS. A maior acidez do solo florestal ajuda a explicar a origem das limitações do solo na área cultivada que ocupa o mesmo tipo de solo, exigindo a adoção de manejos conservacionistas.

Resumo: Embora muitos produtores de milho verde gerenciem suas propriedades agrícolas informalmente, a produção desta hortícola, é socioeconomicamente relevante para o Nordeste brasileiro. Este trabalho objetiva estimar e analisar os custos de produção, rentabilidade e retorno do milho verde em diferentes sistemas de cultivo, nos Tabuleiros Costeiros Sergipano. Para tanto, coletou-se dados do 16° ao 18° ano de cultivo de um experimento de longa duração, em delineamento experimental em faixas, onde cada faixa corresponde ao sistema de manejo do solo (cultivo convencional (CC), plantio direto (PD) e cultivo mínimo (CM)), e foram aleatorizadas quatro culturas antecessoras (Feijão Caupí, Crotalária, Guandu e Milheto) ao cultivo do milho. Determinou-se custos da produção, Receita bruta, Lucro operacional, Índice de rentabilidade e Ponto de nivelamento. Observou-se maior produtividade e Receita bruta no PD, e maiores desembolsos no CC (R$ 8,184.59). O PD apresentou maiores Lucro operacional e Índice de rentabilidade, onde, o Guandu/PD apresentou o melhor desempenho (R$ 8,847.18 e 52.02% respectivamente). O Guandu/CC apresentou Lucro operacional e Índice de rentabilidade negativos, caracterizando-se como alternativa não viável ao agricultor. A identificação e análise dos custos de produção é uma ferramenta importante, pois possibilita a identificação de culturas mais rentáveis, sendo o PD o mais recomendado.

Abstract: Although many green corn producers manage their agricultural properties informally, the production of this vegetable is socioeconomically relevant to the Brazilian Northeast. This work aims to estimate and analyze the production costs, profitability and return of green corn in different cultivation systems, in the Coastal Tablelands of Sergipano. For this purpose, data were collected from the 16th to the 18th year of cultivation of a long-term experiment, in a strip experimental design, where each strip corresponds to the soil management system (conventional cultivation (CC), no-tillage (PD)) and minimum cultivation (CM)), and four previous crops (Beans Caupí, Crotalária, Guandu and Milheto) were randomized to corn. Production costs, Gross revenue, Operating profit, Profitability index and Leveling point were determined. Greater productivity and Gross revenue were observed in the PD, and greater disbursements in the CC (R$ 8,184.59). PD had highest operating profit and profitability ratio, where Guandu/PD had the best performance (R$ 8,847.18 and 52.02% respectively). Guandu/CC presented negative operating profit and profitability index, characterizing itself as a non-viable alternative for the farmer. The identification and analysis of production costs is an important tool, as it enables the identification of more profitable crops, being the PD the most recommended.

Abstract Intense soil preparation and disturbance in crops, over time, reduces the quantity and quality of soil organic matter. Given this context, this work aimed to determine soil carbon stocks and labile fractions under agroforestry system (AFS) and toposequences in an altitude marsh, Taquaritinga do Norte, Pernambuco, Brazil. The study was carried out at the Yaguara farm, and the areas studied were native forest with 4.57 ha and coffee plantation in shade with native forest with 25.59 ha. Soil samples were collected in four trenches measuring 1.5 x 1.5 x 0.60 m, with a distance of 50 meters. Soils were collected at depths of 0-20, 20-40 and 40-60 cm, followed by chemical, physical and density analyzes to determine soil carbon stocks and labile fractions. The area with shaded coffee showed higher values of soil carbon stocks at depths of 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm. At a depth of 40-60 cm, the AFS top toposequence showed the highest carbon stock with 11.73 Mg ha-1, followed by the area with native vegetation with 10.6 Mg ha-1, slope with 9.23 Mg ha-1 and pediment with 7.00 Mg ha-1. It was found that the top toposequence with shaded coffee exhibited a greater stock of labile carbon at depth 0-20 cm with a value of 1.06 Mg ha-1, followed by the bedding areas (SAF) with 0.88 Mg ha-1, native forest with 0.79 Mg ha-1 and slope with 0.67 g kg-1. However, the area of native vegetation showed the highest value of labile carbon at a depth of 40-60 cm. It was concluded that the area with shaded coffee in the top toposequence showed great capacity to increase total carbon stocks and labile carbon stocks of soil organic matter.

Resumo O intenso preparo e revolvimento do solo em cultivos, com o tempo, reduz a quantidade e a qualidade da matéria orgânica do solo. Diante desse contexto, este trabalho teve como objetivo determinar os estoques de carbono do solo e frações lábeis sob sistema agroflorestal (SAF) e topossequências em brejo de altitude, em Taquaritinga do Norte, Pernambuco, Brasil. O estudo foi desenvolvido na fazenda Yaguara, e as áreas estudadas foram mata nativa com 4,57 ha e plantio de café sombreado com mata nativa com 25,59 ha. As amostras de solos foram coletadas em quatro trincheiras 1,5 x 1,5 x 0,60 m, com distância de 50 metros. Foram coletados solos nas profundidades de 0-20, 20-40 e 40-60 cm, seguido de análises químicas, físicas e densidade para determinação dos estoques de carbono no solo e frações lábeis. A área com café sombreado apresentou maiores valores de estoques de carbono no solo nas profundidades de 0-20 cm e 20-40 cm. Na profundidade de 40-60 cm, a topossequência de topo do SAF apresentou maior estoque de carbono com 11,73 Mg ha-1, seguido da área com vegetação nativa com 10,6 Mg ha-1 , encosta com 9,23 Mg ha-1 e pedimento com 7,00 Mg ha-1. Verificou-se que a topossequência de topo com café sombreado exibiu maior estoque de carbono lábil na profundidade 0-20 cm com o valor de 1,06 Mg ha-1, sucedido das áreas de pedimento (SAF) com 0,88 Mg ha-1, mata nativa com 0,79 Mg ha-1e encosta com 0,67 Mg ha-1. No entanto, a área de vegetação nativa apresentou o maior valor de carbono lábil na profundidade de 40-60 cm. Concluiu-se que a área com café sombreado na topossequência topo mostrou grande capacidade para elevar os estoques de carbono total e estoques de carbono lábil da matéria orgânica do solo.

Abstract An adequate amount of soil organic matter is considered essential for long-term sustainable agriculture, ensuring good productivity. Therefore, the present study quantified carbon and nitrogen stocks and microbiological activity in soil of three different areas: Forest-pasture System, Pasture System and preserved Caatinga - used as a reference of the experiment - located in a semi-arid region, in Watershed of Pajeú River, state of Pernambuco, Brazil. Eight trenches were opened in each system to collect soil samples at depths of 0 - 10, 20 - 30 and 50 - 60 cm, for chemical and microbiological analysis. In general, attributes of soil showed better results of land use in the following order: preserved Caatinga - Forest-pasture System - Pasture System.

Resumo A atividade microbiana se mostra bastante sensível a mudanças da cobertura, tornando-se um importante indicador de qualidade do solo. O estudo teve como objetivo avaliar as alterações nas atividades microbiológicas do solo sob as diferentes coberturas vegetais no cerrado do Tocantins. O trabalho foi desenvolvido em áreas de Eucalyptus sp., pastagem, agricultura e cerrado sensu stricto na fazenda experimental da Universidade Federal do Tocantins. As amostras de solo foram coletadas em trincheiras de 70 x 70 cm nas profundidades 0-10 e 10-20 cm, com seis repetições. As variáveis avaliadas foram: concentração e estoque de carbono na biomassa microbiana, respiração basal do solo, quociente metabólico e quociente microbiano. A análise estatística foi realizada por meio do teste de normalidade, análise de variância e comparação das médias pelo teste Tukey a 5% de significância. A área com Eucalyptus sp. com 11 anos apresentou uma atividade microbiológica do solo estável, apresentando estoques de carbono na biomassa microbiana superiores em 57,32 % aos da vegetação de mata nativa, 84,29 % ao da pastagem e 290,91 % ao da agricultura. As atividades microbiológicas do solo são afetadas pela variação da cobertura vegetal do solo, sendo eficiente como indicador de qualidade do solo.

Abstract The microbial activity is very sensitive to changes in soil cover, making it an important indicator of soil quality. The study aimed to assess changes in soil microbiological activities under different vegetation coverings in the Cerrado biome of Tocantins state. The work was developed in areas of Eucalyptus sp., Pasture, agriculture and Cerrado sensu stricto in the experimental farm of the Federal University of Tocantins. The soil samples were collected in trenches of 70 x 70 cm at depths 0-10 and 10-20 cm, with six replications. The variables evaluated were: concentration and stock in the microbial biomass carbon, basal soil respiration, metabolic quotient and microbial quotient. The statistical analysis was performed using the normality test, analysis of variance and comparison of means by the Tukey test at 5% significance. The area with Eucalyptus sp. at 11 years of age, he had a stable soil microbiological activity, showing stocks in microbial biomass carbon 57.32% higher than that native forest vegetation, 84.29% that pasture and 290.91% that agriculture. The soil microbiological activities are affected by the variation of the soil vegetation cover, being efficient as an indicator of soil quality.

RESUMO A Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Japaratuba (BHJ), localizada no Estado de Sergipe, apresenta um acelerado desenvolvimento econômico em decorrência da exploração do petróleo e aumento da monocultura da cana de açúcar e do milho; em consequência observa-se o aumento da degradação ambiental na bacia. Dada a importância para o abastecimento hídrico que a bacia hidrográfica possui para o Estado de Sergipe, e a necessidade de equilibrar o crescimento econômico com a conservação ambiental, este estudo teve o objetivo de analisar o Plano da Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Japaratuba (PBHJ), publicado em 2015, e propor a escala de prioridade para execução dos programas dispostos sob o escopo de uma Avaliação Ambiental Estratégica (AAE). Para isso utilizou-se a análise multicritério de decisão aplicando-se o método Processo Hierárquico Analítico, com coleta de dados (abastecimento e distribuição de água, saneamento e cobertura florestal) dos anos de 2018, 2019 e 2020, associando também, técnicas de geoprocessamento. Constatou-se que, dos seis critérios analisados para a definição da escala de prioridade, aqueles associados à restauração dos ecossistemas, saneamento e higiene e a qualidade da água foram os que apresentaram a mais alta prioridade para execução, conforme os níveis de criticidade observados. A análise multicritério adotada sob uma abordagem de variáveis do desenvolvimento sustentável amplia o contexto de critérios ambientais a serem observados em futuras revisões do PBHJ; e expande a visão ambiental estratégica nos processos de gestão integrada da bacia.

ABSTRACT The Japaratuba River Basin (JRB), located in Sergipe, Brazil, has accelerated economic development due to oil exploration and an increase in the sugarcane and corn monocultures. Thus, environmental degradation has increased in the basin. Given the importance of the water supply that the hydrographic basin has for the state of Sergipe, and the need to balance its economic growth with environmental conservation, this study had the objective to analyze the Japaratuba River Basin Plan (JRBP), published in 2015, and propose the priority scale for the execution of programs arranged under the scope of a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). Thus, the multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) applying the Analytic Hierarchy Process method (AHP) was used with data collection (water supply and distribution, sanitation, and forest cover) for the years 2018, 2019, and 2020, associating Geoprocessing techniques. It was verified that among the criteria analyzed for the definition of the priority scale, those associated with the restoration of ecosystems, sanitation, and hygiene, and water quality were the ones with the highest priority for execution according to the levels of criticality observed. The multi-criteria analysis expands the context of environmental criteria to be observed in further reviews of the JRBP; and expands the strategic environmental vision in the integrated management processes of the basin.

Resumo Este artigo apresenta uma visão geral da aplicação das técnicas de bioengenharia de solos também conhecidas como engenharia natural no estado de Sergipe, nordeste do Brasil, mostrando a importância da integração de elementos vivos e inertes para controlar a erosão nas margens dos rios. São abordados aspectos que vão desde a caracterização da susceptibilidade à erosão até o uso de biotécnicas, considerando conhecimentos das áreas da engenharia agronômica, engenharia florestal, engenharia civil, biologia, pedologia, geologia, geomorfologia e geotecnia. É uma abordagem que trabalha técnicas e metodologias de forma multidisciplinar buscando maximizar sinergias (por exemplo, técnicas de engenharia natural para combinar materiais inertes de maneira a ajudar as plantas a desenvolver sistemas cada vez mais eficientes). Essa abordagem também considera na condução dos trabalhos, a otimização de custos de manutenção, com uso de materiais diversos, diferente da engenharia tradicional que usa predominantemente materiais inertes. Os trabalhos de pesquisa conduzidos em diferentes localidades consideraram a disponibilidade de materiais locais como rochas, geotêxteis fabricados a partir de fibras da flora nativa ou mesmo disponíveis no mercado, além da utilização das espécies nativas para repovoamento das margens ou taludes, adequadas às condições ecológicas dos ambientes do Nordeste do Brasil. Também foi considerado o tamanho e alcance tecnológico e ecológico, além de objetivos estéticos apresentando diferentes biotécnicas adaptadas para diferentes situações.

Abstract This article presents an overview of the application of soil bioengineering techniques, also modeled as natural engineering, in the state of Sergipe, northeastern Brazil, showing the importance of integrating living and inert elements to protect river banks from erosion. The employed techniques are different, ranging from the characterization of susceptibility to erosion to the use of biotechniques, considering knowledge in the areas of agronomic engineering, forestry engineering, civil engineering, biology, pedology, geology, geomorphology and geotechnics. It is an approach that uses techniques and methodologies in a multidisciplinary way, seeking to maximize synergies (for example, natural engineering techniques to combine inert materials in ways that help plants to develop increasingly efficient systems). This approach also considers maintenance-cost optimization in the conduction of the works, using different materials, differing from traditional engineering, which uses predominantly inert materials. The research work carried out in different locations sought the availability of local materials such as rocks, geotextiles made from fibers from the native flora or even available on the market, in addition to the use of native species to recovery of the banks or slopes, according to the ecological conditions of the northeastern Brazil. Size and technological and ecological reach were also considered, in addition to different biotechnical aesthetic objectives adapted to different situations.

Abstract Soil organic matter has great importance in chemical, physical and biological processes in soil-plant system. This study aimed to evaluate changes in carbon humic fractions of soil organic matter under different vegetation coverings in Cerrado in Tocantins, Brazil. The work was developed in Eucalyptus sp., Pasture, Agriculture and Cerrado sensu stricto areas. Soil samples were collected in dry period, October, 2018, in trenches 70 x 70 cm at depths 0-10, 10-20, 20-30, 30-40 and 40-50 cm, with six replications. The vegetation cover in Eucalyptus sp. area showed higher levels of total carbon in soil humic fraction. Respectively fulvic acid, humic acid and humin in Eucalyptus sp. area had stocks of 22.09; 2.71 and 20.01% higher than native forest, 32.04; 2.57 and 35.59% higher than pasture and 10.59; 19.19 and 7.61% higher than the agriculture area. Among the different areas evaluated, the soil of Eucalyptus sp. has great potential to increase carbon storage in soil humic fractions.

Resumo O uso das fibras da taboa (Typha latifolia Linn), para confecção de geotêxteis, tem sido trabalhada, buscando a estabilização de taludes de rios ou encostas, e assim criando um ambiente ecologicamente favorável para a recuperação da vegetação e a ancoragem do solo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a resistência e durabilidade de geotêxteis fabricados com fibras da taboa submetidos ao envelhecimento acelerado em laboratório e degradação dessas fibras em campo. A confecção dos geotêxteis foi realizada com diferentes nós em fibras que passaram previamente por processos de secagem distintos. Para a realização dos testes em laboratório, foi construído aparato que permitiu submeter os corpos de prova ao envelhecimento precoce, buscando simulação das condições ambientais, isto é, as fibras foram expostas à radiação UVB seguida de condensação, utilizando-se também um resfriador mecânico para equalização da temperatura. Os ensaios de resistência à tração seguiram diretrizes observadas nas normas ISO 10319 (1996) e ISO 12236 (1998). Os ensaios de campo foram conduzidos por disposição de amostras em um talude da margem direita do rio São Francisco no município de Amparo do São Francisco-SE, 10°08'20.7"S 36°54'47.0"W, Nordeste do Brazil, com área de 20m2, submetidas às condições climáticas locais, para posterior avaliação da sua degradação. Uma vez que os materiais não apresentam homogeneidade na sua fabricação, ocorreram resultados não uniformes quando submetidos à degradação. Isso pode explicar o fato de serem observados aumentos inesperados nos valores de tensão e deformação. O geotêxteis de taboa apresentou resultados de tensão de ruptura e deformação que sinaliza positivamente para o seu uso comercial, confirmando, assim, as suas potencialidades para uso como parte das técnicas de bioengenharia de solos.

Abstract The use of taboa fibers (Typha latifolia Linn), for geotextile manufacturing, was designed to stabilize riverbanks or slopes and to create an ecologically suitable environment for the recovery of vegetation and soil anchoring. The objective of this work was to evaluate the resistance of geotextiles manufactured from taboa fibers submitted to accelerate aging in the laboratory and degradation of these fibers in the field. The geotextile manufacturing was performed with different knots in fibers that had previously undergone different drying processes. To perform the tests in the laboratory, an apparatus that allowed the geotextile to be subjected to premature aging was built, seeking to simulate the environmental conditions. The fibers were exposed to UVB radiation followed by condensation, using also a mechanical cooler, for temperature equalization. The tensile strength tests followed the guidelines observed in the ISO 10319 (1996) and ISO 12236 (1998) Brazilian National Standards. The field trials were conducted by placing samples on a slope on the right bank of the São Francisco river in the municipality of Amparo do São Francisco, Sergipe state, 10°08'20.7"S 36°54'47.0"W, Northeaster Brazil, with 20m2 area, under local climatic conditions, for further evaluation of their degradation. Since the materials are not homogeneous in their manufacture, non-uniform results occurred when subjected to degradation. This may explain the fact that unexpected increases in stress and strain values were observed. The taboa geotextile showed results of rupture stress and deformation that signals positively for its commercial use, thus confirming its potential for use as part of soil bioengineering techniques.

RESUMO A caracterização do sistema radicular de plantas é de grande importância para a compreensão da sua contribuição na resistência ao cisalhamento do solo, constituindo uma importante ferramenta para tomada de decisão em obras de bioengenharia dos solos. Esse trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar as características de crescimento e distribuição do sistema radicular do capim Paspalum millegrana Schrad em Neossolo Quartzarênico utilizando Processamento Digital de Imagens (PDI). A obtenção dos dados foi realizada por meio de abertura de trincheira para exposição do sistema radicular do capim Paspalum até 1,70 m de profundidade do solo. Para a coleta de informações quantitativas do sistema radicular, foram utilizados os métodos da trincheira e anel volumétrico. Para o processamento das imagens foram utilizados os softwares SAFIRA e o ArcMAP pertencente ao conjunto ArcGIS. O método da trincheira evidenciou que o capim Paspalum possui grande volume de raízes tanto nos primeiros 0,40m até a 1,30 m de profundidade do perfil do solo. Foi possível observar que o comprimento e o volume radicular do capim Paspalum alcançam profundidades além de 1,70 m de profundidade, importante para aumento da resistência do solo aos processos erosivos. O método da trincheira quando comparado com o método do anel volumétrico se mostrou mais eficiente para a compreensão do comportamento do sistema radicular do capim paspalum uma vez que permite uma avaliação da sua distribuição espacial com melhor detalhamento.

ABSTRACT The characterization of the plant root system is of great importance for the understanding of its contribution to soil shear resistance, constituting an important tool for decision making in soil bioengineering works. The objective of this work was to evaluate the growth and distribution characteristics of the root system of Paspalum millegrana Schrad. grass in Entisol using Digital Imaging Processing (DIP). The data were obtained by opening a soil pit to expose the root system of Paspalum grass up to 1.70 m depth. The profile wall and volumetric ring methods were used to collect quantitative information of the root system. The SAFIRA software and the ArcMAP software belonging to the ArcGIS suite were used for image processing. The profile wall method showed that Paspalum grass has a large volume of roots in the first 0.40 m to 1.30 m soil depth. It was observed that the root length and volume of Paspalum grass reach depths beyond 1.70 m, which is important to increase soil resistance to erosion processes. The profile wall method when compared to the volumetric ring method proved to be more efficient to understand the behavior of the Paspalum grass root system since it enables an assessment of its spatial distribution with better detailing.

Abstract This study aimed to assess soil chemical attributes, organic matter fractions and carbon stocks of forest in three different regeneration stages in the Serra de Itabaiana National Park, Sergipe. The study was conducted in three areas: open white sands, intermediate white sands, and closed white sands, with a history of differentiated degradation. Soil samples were collected at 0-20 cm depth for chemical characterization and for fractionation of soil organic matter and C stock. The open white sands obtained the best results regarding levels of macronutrients, total organic carbon, and total soil nitrogen, as well as higher carbon/nitrogen ratio compared with intermediate white sands and closed white sands, with such effects being attributed to recent exposure to fire. Carbon concentrations in humic fractions of organic matter were little influenced by different vegetation in regeneration, except the carbon fraction of humic acid, which is more sensitive to different management and soil usage.

ABSTRACT Concerns about the negative effects of agriculture on soil physical quality and soil organic carbon (SOC) pools have spurred on the adoption of conservation tillage systems in tropical regions. This study aimed to evaluate the long-term impacts (16th year) of conventional (CT), minimum (MT) and no-tillage (NT) practices and different cover crops (sunn hemp and a bean/millet sequence) on soil physical properties and SOC content of a corn cultivated Ultisol in the northeast of Brazil. Soil bulk density (Bd), soil penetration resistance (SPR), soil aggregation, and total aggregate-associated carbon (C) (4-2 mm) were evaluated. Tillage practices exerted strong control on soil physical properties and total aggregate-C content but were influenced by cover crop species. Minimum tillage presented the lowest Bd, irrespective of cover crop, while NT with bean/millet sequence resulted in the lowest SPR. However, as regards soil aggregation and total aggregate-C, the results indicated that there were no differences between MT and NT, with both systems presenting greater mean weight diameter (MWD) and total aggregate-C content than CT. Total aggregate-C content in the 0.00-0.05 m soil layer in conservation tillage was increased by the adoption of a bean/millet sequence. Increased mechanical disturbance through CT practices was harmful to Bd, soil aggregation and SOC accrual. Overall, more conservative tillage practices and the proper choice of cover crops might yield greater soil quality. Low intensity of soil disturbances due to the adoption of MT favors soil aggregation and the accrual of SOC in weakly structured soils through increases in contact between organic and mineral particles while not causing significant destruction of soil aggregates.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito da raiz de capim vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides (L.) Robert) sobre a resistência à penetração (RP) das margens do Baixo São Francisco. Mudas de vetiver foram plantadas no talude do rio, a fim de aumentar a resistência do solo aos processos erosivos, com avaliações de Resistência à Penetração (RP) realizadas em profundidades de 0 a 0,20, 0,20 a 0,40, e 0,40-0,60 m em diferentes situações (próximo à planta e, nas entre linhas). Dados de RP foram obtidos utilizando um penetrômetro automatizado. Amostras de solo foram coletadas para a determinação da umidade assim como da textura do solo, que foi determinada por densimetria, a densidade das raízes pelo método monólito. Os resultados do RP, umidade, e estudos de densidade de raiz foram submetidos a análise de variância (p <0,05) e, em seguida, as médias foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey utilizando o software SISVAR. As amostras próximas ao vetiver apresentaram uma RP média de 1793,94 kPa e umidade média de 11,78%, diferindo estatisticamente dos pontos amostrados nas entrelinhas. RP e umidade do solo não diferiram estatisticamente com a profundidade do solo. O capim vetiver produziu uma cobertura do solo adequada, levando a uma maior retenção de água e, consequentemente, uma redução da resistência à penetração.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the root of vetiver grass (Chrysopogon zizanioides (L.) Robert) on the soil Resistance to penetration (RP) in the margins of the lower São Francisco River. Vetiver grass seedlings were planted on the riverbank margins in order to increase soil resistance to erosion processes, and RP assessments were made at soil depths of 0-0.20, 0.20-0.40, and 0.40-0.60 m in different situations (near the plants and within rows). RP data was obtained using an automated penetrometer. Gravimetric moisture data was also collected, as well as particle size data by densimetry, and root density data by the monolith method. The results of the RP, moisture, and root density studies were subjected to analysis of variance (p <0.05) and then the averages were compared by the Tukey test using SISVAR software. The samples next to the vetiver grass showed an average RP of 1793.94 kPa and an average moisture content of 11.78%, statistically differing from that of the sampled points within rows. RP and soil moisture did not differ statistically at the depth assessed. The vetiver grass produced an adequate ground cover, leading to higher water retention and hence a reduced resistance to penetration.

RESUMO A serapilheira é uma das principais vias de retorno de nutrientes no sistema planta-solo-planta e sua determinação permite analisar a reestruturação de ambientes florestais antropizados. O conhecimento da produção da serapilheira é fundamental para determinar o potencial de regeneração de uma área por meio do aporte e ciclagem dos nutrientes. Objetivou-se neste estudo quantificar a produção de serapilheira e o aporte de carbono e dos nutrientes da fração foliar em áreas de ocorrência de Neossolos Quartzarênicos, com vegetação em diferentes estágios de regeneração, no Parque Nacional Serra de Itabaiana, em Sergipe. Em cada uma das áreas de Areias Brancas Abertas (ABA), Areias Brancas Intermediárias (ABI) e Areias Brancas Fechadas (ABF) instalaram-se coletores nos quais a serapilheira foi coletada mensalmente, de janeiro a dezembro de 2011. Em subamostras da serapilheira foram determinadas as quantidades de carbono (C), nitrogênio (N) e fósforo (P). Com a ação do fogo nas áreas de Areias Brancas do Parque da Serra de Itabaiana, ficou evidente que o mesmo altera o estado de equilíbrio dinâmico alcançado pelo ecossistema, logo, as condições nutricionais do solo são modificadas. Os acúmulos de C, N e P não apresentaram variação sazonal significativa, de acordo com a produção da serapilheira em cada área estudada, sendo que a área ABF proporcionou os maiores acúmulos destes elementos ao longo do período de avaliação.

ABSTRACT Litter is a major route of return of nutrients in the system plant-soil -plant and its determination allows to analyze the restructuring of anthropogenic forest environments. Knowledge of litter production is a critical in determining the potential for regeneration of an area through the intake and nutrient cycling. This study aimed to quantify the litter production and the carbon contribution and leaf fraction nutrients in areas of occurrence of Quartzipsamments with vegetation at different stages of regeneration in National Park Serra de Itabaiana in Sergipe, state. In each of the areas of Areia Branca Aberta (ABA), Areia Branca Intermediaria (ABI) and Areia Branca Fechada (ABF), settled collectors where the litter was collected monthly from January to December 2011. In the litter subsamples amounts of carbon (C), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) were determined. Along with the action of fire in the areas of Areias Brancas of Serra de Itabaiana Park, it became clear that it changes the state of dynamic equilibrium achieved by the ecosystem, so the nutritional soil conditions are modified. The accumulation of C, N and P showed no significant seasonal variation according to the production of litter in each area studied, and the ABF area provided the largest accumulations of these elements throughout the evaluation period.

Foi avaliada a criotolerância de oócitos e embriões bovinos maturados com adição de líquido folicular (LF) e/ou β-mercaptoetanol (BM). Após vitrificação, os oócitos foram maturados em: TCM-199 (controle); BM (24h TCM-199+100µM BM); LF (6h em LF+18h TCM-199) e LF+BM (6h LF+18h TCM-199+100µM BM). Não houve diferença (p>0,05) nas taxas de blastocistos dos tratamentos TCM (6,4%), BM (4,0%) e LF (3,4%). A eclosão e densidade celular dos embriões eclodidos não diferiram (p>0,05) nos tratamentos. No Experimento 2 blastocistos expandidos (Bx) obtidos em D7 ou D8 foram vitrificados, avaliando-se sua reexpansão e eclosão. A reexpansão foi semelhante (p>0,05), sendo observado comportamento distinto na eclosão entre Bx D7 e D8. Nos Bx D7 houve maior eclosão no controle (TCM–54,2%) em relação ao BM (40,32%) e LF+BM (33,89%). Os Bx D8 apresentaram menor eclosão no controle (TCM) em relação aos Bx D7. Nos tratamentos BM, LF e LF+BM a eclosão foi semelhante para Bx D7 ou D8. A maturação com adição de LF e/ou BM não melhora a criotolerância de oócitos imaturos e embriões PIV. Blastocistos expandidos precoces (D7) são mais criotolerantes e apresentam um comportamento distinto à adição de LF e BM, em relação aos tardios (D8).

Cryotolerance of bovine oocytes and embryos maturated with addition of follicular fluid (LF) and β-mercaptoethanol (BM) was evaluated. After vitrification, oocytes were maturated in: TCM-199 (control); BM (24h TCM-199+100µM BM); LF (6h in LF+18h TCM-199), and LF+BM (6h LF+18h TCM-199+100µM BM). There was not difference (p>0.05) in blastocysts rate in TCM (6.4%), BM (4.0%) and LF (3.4%) treatments. The hatching rates and cell density of hatched embryos did not differ (p>0.05) among treatments. In Experiment 2, hatched blastocysts (Bx) obtained in D7 or D8 were vitrified and evaluated according to its expanding and hatching rates. The expanding rate was similar (p>0.05), being observed a distinct pathway in hatching rate in D7 and D8 Bx. Higher hatching rate was observed in D7 Bx from control (TCM-54.2%) compared to BM (40.32%) and LF+BM (33.89%) treatments. The D8 Bx showed lower hatching rate in control (TCM-199) compared with D7 Bx. In BM, LF and LF+BM treatments, the hatching rate was similar for D7 or D8 embryos. Maturation with addition of LF and/or BM does not increase the oocyte or IVP embryo cryotolerance. Expanded blastocysts (D7) have higher cryotolerance and show a distinct pathway when added with LF or BM, in comparison with D8 embryos.
