ABSTRACT This work aimed to evaluate the effect of sources and doses of nitrogen on the initial growth and quality of Melaleuca alternifolia Cheel (melaleuca) seedlings. The nitrogen sources were: ammonium nitrate, calcium nitrate and ammonium sulfate, established in five doses (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg dm-3 of N) equally parceled out and applied on the 25th, 50th, 75th and 100 days after transplanting. The experiment was arranged in complete randomized blocks, in (3 x 5) factorial design, in red yellow latosol, with four repetitions. After 125 days of transplanting data regarding height, collar diameter, aerial part dry weight and root, and the ratios between height and collar diameter, height aerial part and dry weight, aerial part dry weight and root dry weight and Dickson quality index (IQD) were collected. There were no significant effects from the nitrogen sources, however the doses of N were positive and significant for all traits except for the ratio between height and collar diameter. The best standards of seedlings quality were obtained from the application of 100 mg.dm-3 of N.

RESUMO O trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito de fontes e doses de N no crescimento e qualidade de mudas de Melaleuca alternifolia Cheel (melaleuca). As fontes de N utilizadas foram nitrato de amônio, nitrato de cálcio e sulfato de amônio em cinco doses (0, 50, 100, 150 e 200 mg dm-3 de N) igualmente parceladas e aplicadas aos 25, 50, 75 e 100 dias após a repicagem. O delineamento estatístico adotado foi o em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial (3 x 5), em Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo, com quatro repetições. Aos 125 dias após a repicagem, foram colhidos dados de altura, diâmetro, massa seca da parte aérea, massa seca de raízes e massa seca total, além das relações altura/diâmetro, massa seca da parte aérea/massa seca de raízes, altura/massa seca da parte aérea e índice de qualidade de Dickson. A aplicação de fertilizantes nitrogenados resultou em ganhos significativos no crescimento e qualidade das mudas. Não houve efeito significativo das fontes, no entanto as doses de N tiveram efeito positivo e significativo para todas as características exceto para a relação altura diâmetro do coleto. O melhor padrão de qualidade das mudas foi obtido com a aplicação de 100 mg.dm-3 de N.

ABSTRACT Restoration of degraded sites by using native plants like Plathymenia reticulata Benth. and Melanoxylon brauna Schot. is advisable. However, seedlings of both species, when raised on commercial substrates, may present low survival. This study aimed to evaluate the growth of seedlings under inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). The seedlings were raised on soil sampled from near an adult plant of the same species. The P. reticulata and M. brauna seedlings were grown with or without the inoculation of a mix of three species of AMF (Rhizophagus clarus, Claroideoglomus etunicatum, and Gigaspora albida), and five doses of P (0, 50, 150, 300, and 450 mg dm-3 of P). All seedlings were inoculated with Bradyrhizobium sp., isolated from each species. After 90 days, P. reticulata inoculated with AMF showed higher growth and nutrient content than those uninoculated, and the maximum plant growth was obtained when received 160 to 280 mg dm-3 of P. On the other hand, no effects of AMF inoculation or phosphate fertilization were observed on M. brauna. For both species, no effect of inoculation was observed on mycorrhizal colonization, and M. brauna, unlike P. reticulata presented a considerable number of nodules. We conclude that inoculation with AMF and P fertilization improves the growth of P. reticulata seedlings but does not promote the growth of M. brauna; presenting the necessity to investigate each species.

RESUMO O crescimento de um plantio de eucalipto deve ser monitorado, para identificar fatores que influenciam o seu desenvolvimento, auxiliando na tomada de decisões para reduzir perdas de produtividade. Assim, o objetivo do presente estudo é avaliar a influência da época de realização de replantios sobre a produtividade e o crescimento de povoamentos de eucalipto. O experimento foi conduzido em uma área da CENIBRA S.A. e implantado em um plantio comercial em agosto de 2011. A aplicação de herbicida e o controle de formigas, em área total, foram realizados antes do plantio, com mudas clonais de Eucalyptus urophylla × Eucalyptus grandis no espaçamento 3,0 × 2,5 m. A calagem (1.500 kg ha-1) foi realizada em área total antes do plantio e 100 g planta-1 de fertilizante NPK (06-30-06), aplicado imediatamente após o plantio. Quatro meses após a instalação do experimento, 300 kg ha-1 de NPK (06-10-29) foi aplicado. Os tratamentos consistiram de quatro datas de replantio de mudas (0, 20, 40 e 80 dias após plantio) sem adubação complementar, e dois tratamentos (replantio com 40 e 80 dias do plantio) com adubação complementar de plantio (100 g planta-1 de NPK 06-30-06) O volume individual das árvores replantadas foi 46,6% inferior ao das não replantadas. Os tratamentos com adubação complementar de plantio não diferiram (p > 0,05) pelo teste t. Conclui-se que quanto maior o intervalo de tempo entre o plantio e o replantio, menor é o volume individual da árvore replantada e que a realização de adubação complementar em mudas de replantio não favorece o crescimento dessas.

ABSTRACT The growth of an eucalypt plantation should be monitored to identify factors that influence its development, helping in the decision-making process, aiming to reduce productivity losses. Thus, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the influence of the age of replanting on the yield and growth of eucalypt stands. The experiment was conducted in an area of CENIBRA S.A. Company, and established in a commercial plantation in August 2011. The application of herbicide and the ant control were performed in total area before planting. Seedlings of Eucalyptus urophylla × Eucalyptus grandis clones in 3.0 × 2.5 m spacing were used. Limestone (1,500 kg ha-1) was applied in total area before planting and 100 g plant-1 of NPK fertilizer (06-30-06) was applied immediately after planting. Four months after the installation of the experiment, 300 kg ha-1 of NPK (06-10-29) was applied. Treatments consisted of four dates of seedling replanting (0, 20, 40 and 80 days after planting) without complementary fertilization, and two treatments (replanting 40 and 80 days after planting) with supplementary fertilization (100g plant-1 NPK 06-30-06). The individual volume of replanting trees was 46.6% lower than of non-replanted ones. Treatments with complementary planting fertilization did not differ (p > 0.05) by the T-test. It is concluded that the longer the time between planting and replanting, the smaller the individual volume of the replanting trees and that the complementary fertilization in seedlings replanted does not favor their growth.

Resumo A crescente demanda de água e as modificações no uso do solo que vêm ocorrendo na bacia hidrográfica do Córrego Zerede ensejaram a realização de análises hidrológicas a fim de um melhor entendimento da dinâmica do ciclo hidrológico local, focando na relação com as florestas e suas consequências para a qualidade da água. Para isso, foi realizado o monitoramento hidrológico através de medições de precipitação, vazão e estimativa de evapotranspiração, utilizando-se um pluviômetro digital sem fio, um atmômetro modificado e pelo conjunto calha Parshall e ITS-2000. Para as análises da qualidade da água, foram coletadas amostras em 5 pontos distintos do curso d’água e analisadas quanto à cor, turbidez, pH, sólidos suspensos totais (SST), condutividade elétrica (CE), demanda química de oxigênio, demanda bioquímica de oxigênio e coliformes termotolerantes. Os resultados mostraram que a evapotranspiração apresentou maior contribuição para saída de água da bacia que o deflúvio, com exceção dos meses de novembro a janeiro (2006/2007). No balanço final, verificou-se o saldo hídrico negativo de 247,7 mm, refletindo precipitações abaixo do esperado para o período e reforçando a importância de utilizar técnicas que permitam uma maior retenção de água na bacia hidrográfica. Os parâmetros CE e SST apresentaram diferenças estatísticas entre as médias dos pontos analisados pelo teste F a 5% de probabilidade, sendo que os demais parâmetros revelaram a inexistência de diferença estatística entre as médias. As análises microbiológicas apresentaram resultados negativos, com a água livre de coliformes termotolerantes. Conclui-se que a água se encontra nos padrões da Classe 1, da Resolução no 357 do Conama (2005) nos parâmetros analisados, indicando uma boa qualidade na Bacia Hidrográfica do Córrego Zerede.

Abstract The increasing water demand and changes in the land use in the watershed of the Zerede Ceek stimulated hydrological analyses to improve the understanding of the dynamics of the local hydrological cycle, focusing on the relationship with forests and the consequences for the water quality. To this purpose, the hydrological monitoring was carried out by measurements of rainfall, flow rate and estimated evapotranspiration, using a digital wireless rain gauge, a modified atmometer, a Parshall flume set and ITS-2000. For the water quality analysis, samples were collected at five different points of the water course and analyzed for color, turbidity, pH, total suspended solids (TSS), electrical conductivity (EC), chemical oxygen demand, biochemical oxygen demand and heat-tolerant coliforms. The results showed that evapotranspiration contributed more to the amount of water leaving the basin than outflow, except from November to January (2006/2007). The final fluid balance of 247.7 mm was negative, showing that rainfall was lower than expected for the period and reinforcing the importance of using techniques that allow greater water retention in the basin. The parameters EC and TSS differed statistically between the means of the points analyzed by the F test at 5% probability, unlike the other parameters. The microbiological tests were negative, with coliform-free water. It was concluded that the analyzed water parameters meet the standards of Class 1 defined by Resolution No 357 of CONAMA (2005), indicating good water quality in the Zerede Creek basin.

ABSTRACT Leucochloron incuriale can be used in projects to restore degraded areas and for logging purpose. Soil has been used in nurseries to produce seedlings; however, most soil types in Brazil have low nutrient availability and high acidity level. The aim of the current study is to assess the effect of liming and phosphate fertilization on the growth and quality of Leucochloron incuriale seedlings. Treatments were arranged in factorial design with five base saturation levels – 3.5 (original), 25, 40, 55 and 70% – and six P levels – 0, 120, 240, 360, 480 and 600 mg dm–3 – in completely randomized blocks with four repetitions. The morphological features and their relations were assessed 82 days after planting. Phosphorus levels had significant effect on most of the assessed traits. The recommended P dose was 475 mg dm–3.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o crescimento e a produção de povoamentos de teca (Tectona grandis) em diferentes espaçamentos e classes de solo. Foram avaliados 12 espaçamentos em Cambissolo e Latossolo, dispostos em parcelas com área de 1.505 ou 1.548 m2, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com nove repetições. As plantas de teca foram medidas aos 26, 42, 50 e 78 meses de idade. A altura total das árvores foi menos influenciada pelos espaçamentos. O diâmetro quadrático médio foi superior nos maiores espaçamentos, enquanto a área basal e o volume total com casca foram superiores nos espaçamentos mais adensados. Observou-se aumento do volume com casca por árvore com o aumento da área útil por planta. Em teca, a estagnação do crescimento ocorre mais cedo, a taxa de crescimento é maior nos espaçamentos mais adensados e as plantas crescem mais em Cambissolo do que em Latossolo.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the growth and yield of teak (Tectona grandis) stands at different spacing and in different soil classes. Twelve spacing were evaluated in an Inceptisol and Oxisol, in plots with an area of 1,505 or 1,548 m2, arranged in a completely randomized design with nine replicates. The teak trees were measured at 26, 42, 50, and 78 months of age. Total tree height was less affected by spacing. Mean square diameter was greater in wider spacing, whereas basal area and total volume with bark were greater in closer spacing. An increase in volume with bark per tree was observed with the increase of useful area per plant. For teak trees, growth stagnation happens earlier, the growth rate is higher in closer spacing, and the plants grow more in the Inceptisol than in the Oxisol.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o crescimento e a qualidade de mudas de Cassia grandis Linnaeus f. (cássia-rosa) em função da adubação fosfatada e da calagem. Os tratamentos foram representados por um fatorial de seis níveis de fósforo (0, 120, 240, 360, 480 e 600 mg dm-3) por cinco níveis de saturação por bases do substrato (3,5 (original), 25, 40, 55, 70%), sendo dispostos no delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. Aos 65 dias após a repicagem, foram medidos a altura da parte aérea (H), o diâmetro do coleto (DC), a massa de matéria seca da parte aérea (MSPA), massa de matéria seca de raízes (MSRA) e massa de matéria seca total (MST), e calculada a relação MSPA/MSRA e o índice de qualidade de Dickson (IQD). A adubação fosfatada teve influência significativa em todas variáveis estudadas. A dose de fósforo adequada para a produção de mudas de qualidade de Cassia grandis nas condições estudadas, na saturação por bases de 25%, é de 600 mg dm-3.

ABSTRACT This study aimed at evaluating the growth and seedling quality of Cassia grandis Linnaeus f. in response to liming and phosphate fertilization. The treatments were arranged in a factorial design of 6 phosphorus levels (0, 120, 240, 360, 480 and 600 mg dm-3) by 5 base saturation levels (3,5 (original), 25, 40, 55, 70 %), in randomized blocks with four replicates. The height of the aerial part (H), collar diameter (DC), dry matter of shoot (MSPA), dry matter of root (MSRA), and total dry matter (MST) were determined at 65 days after the transplanting. The relation between dry matter of shoot and dry matter of root (MSPA/ MSRA) and Dickson quality index (IQD) were calculated at this stage. There were significant effects from the phosphate fertilization to all studied variables. Based on this study, the recommended P dose for quality seedling production of Cassia grandis is 600 mg dm-3, for 25% of substratum’s base saturation.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a produtividade de minicepas e o enraizamento de miniestacas de clones híbridos de Eucalyptus globulus em resposta a concentrações de nitrogênio em fertirrigação de minijardim clonal. Para isso, utilizaram-se cinco clones, sendo: dois clones de Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus globulus (C-04 e C-16); dois clones de Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus globulus (C-26 e C-30) e um clone de Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis (1213) como referência. Foram testadas cinco concentrações de N (36, 72, 109, 164 e 218 mg L-1) no arranjo de parcelas subdivididas com três repetições, em delineamento estatístico de blocos ao acaso. Seis meses após a implantação do minijardim, utilizando solução nutritiva padrão, em sistema de fertirrigação, aplicaram-se os tratamentos por 30 dias, quando iniciaram-se as coletas das miniestacas semanalmente e o estaqueamento a cada 15 dias, durante 90 dias. Avaliou-se a sobrevivência e produtividade das minicepas e a sobrevivência das miniestacas, porcentagem de enraizamento e porcentagem de miniestacas com raízes visíveis na extremidade inferior do tubete. Verificou-se a existência de efeito significativo das concentrações de nitrogênio para produtividade mensal das minicepas dos clones C-16 (169,05 mg L-1), C-26 (146,67 mg L-1) e para C-04 e 1213, efeito linear positivo. Entretanto, não foi observado efeito significativo das concentrações para a percentagem de miniestacas com raízes visíveis na extremidade inferior do tubete, enraizamento e sobrevivência das miniestacas aos trinta dias em casa de vegetação.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the productivity of ministumps and the rooting of minicuttings from hybrid clones of Eucalyptus globulus in response to nitrogen concentrations in nutritive solution, in a fertirrigation system. To do so, we used five clones, namely: two of Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus globulus (C-04 and C-16); two of Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus globulus (C-26 and C-30) and one of Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis (1213) as a comparator. Five N concentrations were tested (36, 72, 109, 164 and 218 mg L-1) in a statistical design of randomized blocks on a split plot arrangement with three replications. Six months after the implementation, using standard nutritive solution, in fertirrigation system, the treatment application began. After 30 days, it began the weekly harvest of minicuttings and the cutting plantion at every 15 days, during 90 days. It was evaluated the survival and the productivity of the ministumps and, regarding the minicuttings, it was observed: the survival, the rooting percentage, the minicutting percentage with visible roots at the lower end of the tube, having these 10cm, after 30 days in the greenhouse. It was found that there is a significant effect of N concentration over the monthly productivity of ministumps from clones C-16 (169.05 mg L-1), C-26 (146.67 mg L-1) and for C-04 and 1213, (positive linear effect). However, no significant effect of dose was observed for the percentage of visible roots at the lower end of the tube, rooting and survival of cuttings at thirty days in the greenhouse.

RESUMO Este trabalho objetivou avaliar o efeito de fontes de nitrogênio e respectivas doses sobre o crescimento e a qualidade de mudas de ipê-amarelo (Tabebuia serratifolia). As mudas foram produzidas em Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo e as fontes de nitrogênio utilizadas foram nitrato de amônio, sulfato de amônio e nitrato de cálcio, aplicadas em cinco doses (0 mg, 75 mg, 150 mg, 225 mg e 300 mg dm–3) e parceladamente, aos 25, 50, 75 e 100 dias após a repicagem. Adotou-se esquema fatorial 3 × 5 no delineamento experimental, casualizado em blocos, com quatro repetições. Aos 125 dias após a repicagem, a adição do nitrogênio proporcionou efeito significativo na produção de mudas de ipê-amarelo, sendo que a fonte sulfato de amônio produziu as melhores médias para todas as características e índices avaliados. Recomenda-se, para a produção de mudas de ipê-amarelo, a utilização de sulfato de amônio na dose de 100 mg dm–3 de N.

ABSTRACT This work aimed to evaluate the effect of sources of nitrogen and respective levels on growth and quality of Yellow Cortez (Tabebuia serratifolia) seedlings. Seedlings were grown on a Oxisol and nitrogen sources were ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulphate and calcium nitrate, applied in five doses (0, 75, 150, 225 and 300 mg dm–3) and increments of 25, 50, 75 and 100 days after transplanting. The experimental design was randomized in blocks in factorial scheme (3 × 5) with four replications. At 125 days after transplanting, the addition of nitrogen provided significant effect on seedling production of Yellow Cortez (Tabebuia serratifolia), and the ammonium sulfate produced the best means for all traits and indexes evaluated. We recommend the use of ammonium sulfate at a dose of 100 mg dm–3 N for Yellow Cortez seedling.

RESUMO A demanda por mudas de espécies nativas tem aumentado devido ao crescente número de projetos de recuperação de áreas degradadas. Para o sucesso da revegetação, devem ser utilizadas mudas de qualidade, e entre os fatores que influenciam a qualidade, destaca-se a fertilização nitrogenada, uma vez que o nitrogênio (N) é um dos nutrientes requeridos em maior quantidade pelas plantas. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a resposta das mudas de Cassia grandis L. f. e Peltophorum dubium (Spreng.) Taub. às fontes e doses de N. Os tratamentos foram representados por um fatorial de três fontes (nitrato de amônio, nitrato de cálcio e sulfato de amônio) e cinco doses de N (0, 50, 100, 150 e 200 mg dm-3), dispostos no delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Após 145 dias da semeadura, foram obtidos: altura (H), diâmetro de coleto (DC), massa de matéria seca da parte aérea (MSPA), da raiz (MSR), e total (MST), e calculada a relação entre a massa de matéria seca da parte aérea e raiz (MSPA/MSR) e o índice de qualidade de Dickson (IQD). A fertilização nitrogenada resultou em ganhos no crescimento e qualidade das mudas de ambas as espécies estudadas. As fontes e a interação fontes × doses não foram significativas para todas as variáveis estudadas. Para as condições estudadas, recomenda-se a dose de 185 mg dm-3 de N para a produção de mudas de Peltophorum dubium. Para a produção de mudas de Cassia grandis não foi possível encontrar a dose ótima de N.

ABSTRACT The demand for seedlings of Brazilian native tree species has increased due to the growing number of recovery projects for degraded areas. In order to obtain success in the revegetation, high quality seedlings should be used. Among the factors that affect the quality of seedlings there is nitrogen fertilization, since nitrogen (N) is one of the nutrients required in the largest amount by plants. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the response of Cassia grandis and Peltophorum dubium seedlings to N sources and doses. The treatments were represented by a factorial of three sources (ammonium nitrate, calcium nitrate and ammonium sulfate) by five N doses (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg dm-3), arranged in randomized complete block design, with four replicates. After 145 days of sowing, were obtained: height (H), collar diameter (CD), shoot dry matter (SDM), root dry matter (RDM), total dry matter (TDM), and calculated the dry matter mass ratio of shoot and root (SDM/RDM) and the Dickson Quality Index (DQI). Nitrogen fertilization resulted in growth gains and improved the seedlings quality of both species. However, the sources and the source × doses interaction were not significant for all variables. For the studied substrate (Red-Yellow Latosol) the recommended dose is 185 mg dm-3 of N for the production of Peltophorum dubium seedlings. For the production of Cassia grandis seedlings was not able to find the optimum dose of N.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi de avaliar a eficiência do emprego de dados de análises total e parcial do tronco de árvores de Tectona grandis e de parcelas permanentes, para construção de curvas de índices de local e modelagem do crescimento e da produção, em nível de árvores individuais e de povoamento. Os dados foram obtidos em povoamentos localizados no estado do Mato Grosso, com idades, variando de 2 a 10 anos no momento do abate das árvores para análise de tronco. Nesse momento, foram instaladas 40 parcelas permanentes, que foram mensuradas nos cinco anos subsequentes. Dados de análise de tronco obtidos dessas parcelas foram utilizados para validação de um modelo de densidade variável. Esses modelos estimaram a produção com exatidão e consistência. Em seguida foi incluído os dados das parcelas permanentes aos de análise do tronco e o modelo foi reajustado. Pode ser concluído que a análise de tronco em árvores de Tectona grandis é uma alternativa eficiente para obter dados visando estudos de crescimento e produção. Também foi confirmada a possibilidade de agrupar dados passados, obtidos por análise de tronco, com parcelas permanentes, visando a modelagem do crescimento. Por fim, foi avaliada e confirmada a eficiência dos dados de análise de tronco para modelagem do crescimento em nível de árvores individuais.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of using total and partial analysis data of the trunk of Tectona grandis trees and of permanent plots, for the construction of site index curves and growth and production modeling, at the level of individual trees and of the settlement. Data were collected in settlements located in the State of Mato Grosso, with ages ranging from 2 to 10 years at the time of tree logging for trunk analysis. At that time, 40 permanent plots were installed, that were measured in the five subsequent years. Trunk analysis data obtained from those plots were used for validation of a variable density model. This model estimated the production with accuracy and consistency. Then, data from permanent plots were added to those of trunk analysis and the model was readjusted. It can be concluded that the trunk analysis of Tectona grandis trees is an efficient alternative of data collection for growth and production studies. The possibility of grouping past data, obtained by trunk analysis, with permanent plots, for growth modeling purposes, was also confirmed. Finally, the efficiency of trunk analysis data for growth modeling at a level of individual trees was evaluated and confirmed.

RESUMO Objetivou-se com o presente estudo avaliar a produção e sobrevivência de minicepas em minijardim clonal e o efeito da redução foliar das miniestacas no enraizamento e crescimento das mudas de progênies de vinhático (Plathymenia foliolosa) via miniestaquia. Foram utilizadas miniestacas da parte apical com altura variando de 8 a 10 cm de comprimento, sendo os tratamentos constituídos por 100% de redução foliar (sem folha), com 75% de redução foliar e sem redução foliar. Quanto à sobrevivência das minicepas em minijardim clonal, após a quarta coleta sucessiva de miniestacas, as progênies P3 e P19 apresentaram os maiores percentuais de sobrevivência (64,5% e 61,5%, respectivamente), enquanto as progênies P1 (32,3%) e P45 (25%), os menores valores observados quanto a essa avaliação. O número médio de miniestacas/minicepa/coleta produzidas variou de 0,8 (progênie 53) a 4,8 (progênie 01), sendo a produtividade média das minicepas/m2 de 120 miniestacas por coleta. Com base nos resultados obtidos, concluiu-se que há influência da redução foliar das miniestacas no enraizamento adventício, que os tratamentos sem redução foliar e com 75% de redução não apresentaram diferenças significativas, no entanto, foi observado 100% de mortalidade das miniestacas quando feita a redução total das folhas. Concluiu-se também que as progênies estudadas apresentaram potencial quanto à regeneração das minicepas, permitindo, assim, a realização de coletas sucessivas de brotações juvenis.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate the production and survival of the mini-stumps in mini-clonal hedge and the effect of leaf reduction of mini-cuttings on rooting and seedling growth of progenies of Vinhático (Plathymenia foliolosa) by mini-cutting. Apical mini-cuttings were used to evaluate the influence of leaf reduction on the rooting of vinhático; the mini-cuttings ranged between 8 to 10 cm in length and samples were subjected to100% leaf reduction (without leaf), 75% of leaf reduction, or no leaf reduction. As for the survival of mini-stumps in mini-clonal hedge, after the fourth successive mini-cuttings collection, P3 and P19 progenies showed the highest survival percentages (64.5% and 61.5%, respectively), while progenies P1 (32.3 %) and P45 (25%) showed the lowest values for this parameter. The average number of mini-cuttings/mini-stump/collection produced ranged from 0.83 (progeny 53) to 4.8 (progeny 01) and the average productivity was 120 m2 mini-stumps/mini-cuttings per collection. These results suggest that leaf reduction in adventitious rooting in mini-cuttings did not result in any difference between foliar treatments without reduction and 75% leaf reduction; however, 100% mortality was observed when the mini-cuttings were made with total leaf reduction.The progenies studied showed potential regeneration of mini-stumps, thus allowing the realization of successive collections of young shoots.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o crescimento e a qualidade de mudas de Plathymenia foliolosa Benth. (vinhático-da-mata) em resposta à adubação fosfatada e saturação por bases do substrato. Os tratamentos foram representados por um fatorial de seis níveis de fósforo (0, 120, 240, 360, 480 e 600 mg dm-3) por cinco níveis de saturação por bases do substrato (3,5, 25, 40, 55, 70%), sendo dispostos no delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. Aos 118 dias após a repicagem, foram obtidas a altura da parte aérea (H), o diâmetro do coleto (D), a massa de matéria seca da parte aérea (SDM), de raízes (RDM) e total (TDM), e calculada a relação SDM/RDM e o índice de qualidade de Dickson (DQI). A adubação fosfatada teve efeito significativo para todas as variáveis estudadas. O efeito da saturação por bases também foi significativo, exceto para a SDM/RDM. Não foi observado efeito significativo para a interação entre saturação por bases e adubação fosfatada. Para as condições estudadas, recomenda-se a aplicação de 300 mg dm-3 de P, sem necessidade de calagem, para a produção de mudas de vinhático-da-mata.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the growth and quality of seedlings of Plathymenia foliolosa Benth in response to base saturation of substrate and phosphate fertilization. The treatments were arranged in a factorial design of 6 P levels (0, 120, 240, 360, 480 and 600 mg dm-3) by 5 base saturation levels (3.5, 25, 40, 55, 70 %), in randomized blocks with four replications. The height of aerial part, neck diameter, shoot dry matter, root dry matter and total dry matter were determined at 118 days after the transplanting. It was still calculated the relation shoot dry matter/root dry matter and the Dickson Quality Index. There were significant effects of the phosphate fertilization for all studied variables. The base saturation had influence on all studied variables, except for the shoot dry matter/root dry matter relation. No significant effect of the interaction between base saturation of substrate and phosphate fertilization was observed on seedlings growth and quality. For the studied conditions, it is recommended 300 mg dm-3 of P for the production of quality seedlings of Plathymenia foliolosa without the necessity of liming.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi testar a aplicabilidade das redes neurais artificiais na estimação da altura em testes clonais e de progênies de eucalipto. Foram utilizados 8.329 dados de teste clonal, coletados em seis idades, divididos em 6 blocos e 5 repetições, e 36.793 dados para o teste de progênie, coletados em 5 idades e divididos em 10 blocos e 5 repetições. As variáveis categóricas de entrada foram a idade, o genótipo e o bloco. O diâmetro (dap) foi utilizado com variável de entrada contínua. Para definição dos dados para treinamento das redes foram utilizadas duas sub-amostras: a sub-amostra 1, composta pela primeira árvore de cada bloco e a sub-amostra 2, uma árvore foi selecionada aleatoriamente dentro de cada bloco. Essa seleção foi feita para os testes clonal e de progênies. Os dados selecionados foram separados em 70% para treinamento e 30% para a validação. As demais árvores, que não faziam parte das duas sub-amostras, foram utilizadas para a generalização. Para cada idade e tratamento foi calculado o teste kolmogorov - Smirnov (K-S) afim de verificar a normalidade dos resíduos. Os resultados demonstram que as redes podem ser usadas na estimação da altura das árvores dos diferentes genótipos presentes nos testes clonais e de progênies, sem perda da exatidão e significativa redução de custo de medição dos experimentos.

ABSTRACT The goal of this study was to test the applicability of artificial neural networks for estimating tree heights in clonal tests and progenies. We used data from 8,329 clonal tests collected for six age groups, divided into six blocks and five repetitions. For the progeny tests, we used 36,793 data points, collected at age 5 and divided into ten blocks and five repetitions. The categorical input variables considered were age, treatment, and block. The diameter (dap) was used with continuous input variables. For training the networks, we used two samples. Sub-sample 1 was composed of the first tree of each block. In sub-sample 2, the tree was selected randomly within each block. This selection was made in both tests. The selected data were separated, with 70% used for training and 30% used for validation. The other unselected trees were used for generalization. For each age and treatment, we used the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test to verify the normality of the errors. The results show that ANNs can be used to estimate the heights of trees subjected to various experimental plot treatments, with no loss of accuracy or estimation precision.

RESUMO O plantio de florestas principalmente com espécies exóticas tem crescido a cada dia a fim de suprir a necessidade do mercado interno e externo no que diz respeito à demanda crescente por produtos florestais. Esses plantios geram polêmica no meio social e principalmente em relação às características hídricas da bacia hidrográfica. Nesse sentido, o presente trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar a precipitação efetiva e o nível do lençol freático na bacia hidrográfica do Riacho Fundo, Felixlândia-MG em área de cobertura florestal de eucalipto, localizada no Cerrado mineiro. A precipitação efetiva foi calculada pela soma da precipitação interna e do escoamento pelo tronco. O monitoramento do nível do lençol freático foi realizado em quatro posições na topossequência, onde foram perfurados quatro poços piezométricos. A precipitação efetiva e monitoramento do lençol freático foram avaliados nos anos de 2008, 2009 e 2010. A profundidade do lençol freático na bacia hidrográfica do Riacho Fundo variou em função da precipitação efetiva e posição topográfica do poço piezométrico, constatando a recarga do lençol freático ao longo dos anos de monitoramento em área de cobertura florestal de eucalipto.

ABSTRACT The amount of planted forests, especially those with exotic species, has increased along the last years in view of the need to supply the ever-growing demand of domestic and foreign markets for forest products. These crops are not only socially controversial but also polemic in what regards hydrological features of the local watershed. In that sense, we aimed to evaluate the net precipitation and water table level in the Riacho Fundo watershed, in Felixlândia municipality, Minas Gerais state, Southeastern Brazil, in a eucalyptus forest cover area located in the Cerrado of that state. Net precipitation was calculated by the sum of throughfall and stemflow. Water table level was monitored along four sites in the toposequence, where four piezometric wells were drilled. Net precipitation and water table level were evaluated from 2008 through 2010. Water table depth in the Riacho Fundo watershed varied with net precipitation and with the topographic position of the piezometric wells, which shows that groundwater in the eucalyptus forest area was recharged over the monitored years.
