ABSTRACT Objective: To identify the obesity diagnosis with the highest association with physical frailty associated with sarcopenia EWGSOP II (sarcopenic obesity). Subjects and methods: We performed a cross-sectional analysis of 371 community-dwelling older adults. Appendicular skeletal lean mass and total body fat (TBF) were assessed using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry, and physical frailty was defined using Fried's criteria. The phenotypes were identified according to the presence of sarcopenia by EWGSOP II and obesity, which was diagnosed using two concepts: BMI obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2) and TBF obesity (percentage of TBF ≥ 35% for women and ≥ 25% for men). Finally, the association of each group with physical frailty was evaluated. Results: The mean age was 78.15 ± 7.22 years. Sarcopenia EWGSOP II was diagnosed in 19.8% (n = 73), body mass index obesity was identified in 21.8% (n = 81), TBF obesity was identified in 67.7% (n = 251), and physical frailty was identified in 38.5% (n = 142). In a regression analysis for frailty, sarcopenic TBF obesity presented an odds ratio of 6.88 (95% confidence interval 2.60-18.24; p < 0.001). Conclusion: In older Brazilian adults, sarcopenic obesity diagnosed by TBF obesity has a robust association with frailty and is independent of body mass index.

Resumo: Introdução: o letramento em saúde auxilia no aumento do conhecimento e das habilidades para acessar informações e gerenciar os cuidados de saúde, bem como no desenvolvimento de mecanismos para o autocuidado, especialmente na recuperação em pós-operatório de cirurgias cardíacas. Portanto existe a necessidade de interligar ações voltadas a saúde e mudança de comportamento das pessoas submetidas a cirurgia cardíaca, com a finalidade de auxiliar na sua recuperação, melhorar a qualidade de vida e identificar precocemente possíveis complicações. Objetivos: descrever o conhecimento e o letramento em saúde de adultos no pós-operatório tardio de revascularização do miocárdio. Métodos: estudo qualitativo com abordagem retrospectiva, realizado no período de dezembro de 2020 a abril de 2021, com 24 pessoas submetidas a cirurgia cardíaca no último semestre de 2019. Na coleta de dados utilizou-se um questionário semiestruturado, a Eight-Health Literacy Assessment Tool e um roteiro de entrevista. Para o tratamento dos dados, utilizou- se um software de pesquisa qualitativa, para posterior análise do conteúdo. Resultados: As entrevistas foram transcritas e possibilitaram a construção de um corpus geral constituído por 24 textos, separados em 430 segmentos de texto com aproveitamento de 86,5%. Após verificação da similitude emergiram em três categorias: “Entendimento, busca e compreensão das informações de saúde”; “Rede de apoio familiar e amigos, no cuidado após a cirurgia cardíaca” e “Momento Cirúrgico”. Conclusões: O letramento em saúde insatisfatório impactou na compreensão das informações de saúde fornecidas pela equipe multiprofissional, vindo a resultar na dificuldade de entendimento em relação a sua doença e execução dos cuidados no domicílio. Observou-se nos depoimentos, a ausência dos profissionais de saúde no planejamento e orientação dos cuidados no domicílio, sendo delegada aos familiares a responsabilidade da execução da terapêutica.

Abstract: Introduction: Health literacy helps to increase knowledge and skills to access information and manage health care, as well as the development of mechanisms for self- care, especially in the postoperative recovery of heart surgeries. Therefore, there is a need to link actions aimed at health and behavior change of people undergoing cardiac surgery, in order to assist in their recovery, improve quality of life and early identify possible complications. Objectives: to describe the knowledge and health literacy of adults in the late postoperative period of myocardial revascularization. Method: qualitative study with a retrospective approach, carried out from December 2020 to April 2021, with 20 people who underwent cardiac surgery in the last semester of 2019. A semi-structured questionnaire, the Eight-Health Literacy Assessment, was used for data collection. Tool and an interview script. For data processing, qualitative research software was used for further content analysis. Results: The interviews were transcribed and made it possible to build a general corpus consisting of 24 texts, separated into 430 text segments with a rate of use of 86.5%. After checking the similarity, three categories emerged: “Understanding, searching and understanding health information”; “Family and friends support network, in care after cardiac surgery” and “Surgical Moment”. Conclusions: The unsatisfactory health literacy had an impact on the understanding of the health information passed on by the multidisciplinary team, resulting in difficulties in understanding their illness and in carrying out care at home. It was observed in the testimonies, the absence of health professionals in the planning and orientation of care at home, being delegated to the family the responsibility for the execution of the therapy.

Abstract Food quality and safety have been a concern of the world population, especially in relation to the chemical and microbiological hazards present in food. The presence of antimicrobial residues at levels above the maximum residue limit makes milk unsuitable for human consumption. In this context, the objective of this study was to analyze 184 raw milk samples from the dairy region of Pernambuco state, in order to evaluate the presence of 31 antimicrobial residues from six different groups (β-lactam, sulfonamide, tetracycline, quinolone, fluoroquinolone and pyrimidine). The samples were collected from producers who supply the dairys with and no inspection service and the analyses were performed by liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. In the qualitative analysis of multiresidues, no sample presented violation for the antimicrobials analyzed. In the quantitative analysis of β-lactams, only one sample of producers who supply milk to dairys with state inspection service presented a result above the maximum residue limit for cloxacillin (464 μg.L-1). It is concluded that raw milk produced in the dairy region of the state of Pernambuco has a low rate of violation of the values established by the current legislation for antimicrobial residues.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os mecanismos de resistência aos antimicrobianos β-lactâmicos em 251 amostras de Staphylococcus coagulase-negativa (CoNS) isolados de cabras com mastite subclínica, bem como determinar a sensibilidade e a especificidade dos testes de nitrocefina e difusão em disco para detectar a resistência à penicilina, em comparação à reação em cadeia da polimerase (PCR). As amostras foram avaliadas quanto à presença dos genes blaZ e mecA, à produção de β-lactamase e à susceptibilidade à penicilina. Do total de isolados, 228 (91%) apresentaram o gene blaZ e, dentre estes, 144 (63%) foram positivos para β-lactamase. A resistência à penicilina foi observada em 125 isolados e, destes, 96,8% apresentaram o gene blaZ. A sensibilidade dos testes fenotípicos para detectar a produção de β-lactamase foi baixa, mas a sua especificidade foi alta; o coeficiente Kappa mostrou leve concordância entre os testes fenotípicos e a PCR. O gene mecA foi detectado em apenas 3% dos isolados, que foram identificados como pertencentes às espécies: S. capitis subsp. ureolyticus, S. caprae, S. warneri, S. sciuri, S. simulans e S. cohnii subsp. urealyticum. Staphylococcus coagulase-negativa são importantes agentes etiológicos da mastite caprina e apresentam genes blaZ e mecA de resistência aos antimicrobianos β-lactâmicos. A sensibilidade dos testes de nitrocefina e difusão em disco para detectar a resistência à penicilina é baixa em relação à da PCR.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate resistance mechanisms to β-lactam antimicrobials in 251 strains of coagulase-negative Staphylococcus (CoNS) isolated from subclinical goat mastitis, as well as to determine the sensitivity and specificity of the nitrocefin and disk diffusion methods to detect penicillin resistance, in comparison with the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The isolates were evaluated for the presence of the blaZ and mecA genes, β-lactamase production, and susceptibility to penicillin. Of the total isolates, 228 (91%) carried the blaZ gene and, among these, 144 (63%) were positive for β-lactamase production. Resistance to penicillin was observed in 125 of the isolates, of which 96.8% carried the blaZ gene. The sensitivity of the phenotypic methods to detect β-lactamase production was low, but their specificity was high; the Kappa coefficient showed a poor agreement between the phenotypic methods and PCR. The mecA gene was detected in only 3% of the isolates, which were identified as belonging to the species: S. capitis subsp. ureolyticus, S. caprae, S. warneri, S. sciuri, S. simulans, and S. cohnii subsp. urealyticum. Coagulase-negative Staphylococcus are important mastitis-causing pathogens in goat and harbor the blaZ and mecA genes related to resistance to β-lactam antimicrobials. The sensitivity of the nitrocefin and disk diffusion methods to detect penicillin resistance is low in relation to that of PCR.

RESUMO Objetivou-se com este estudo identificar, por meio da análise de componentes principais e análise de agrupamento, as variáveis capazes de explicar a variabilidade na qualidade e na produção de leite de vacas Holandesas. Foram utilizados dados mensais de controle leiteiro, de três fazendas comerciais localizadas na região Agreste do estado de Pernambuco, Brasil, obtidos no período de 2007 a 2017. Foram analisadas 5.872 informações de produção e componentes do leite, e de escore de células somáticas (SCS), quanto à possibilidade de formação de grupos que pudessem ser destacados pela similaridade e verificar a capacidade discriminante dessas características nos grupos. Os métodos K-means e Ward.D2, baseados na análise da distância euclidiana e dos componentes principais (PCA), foram utilizados para indicar as fontes de variação que diferenciaram os grupos. Foi observado que os primeiros três componentes principais explicaram 79,69% da variabilidade dos dados. A variável que mais contribuiu no primeiro componente foi o teor de sólidos totais com 29,66%. No segundo componente, a lactose, se destacou com uma contribuição de 49,43%. Na análise de agrupamento, três clusters diferiram em relação a todas as características (p<0,001), o cluster 2, por exemplo, concentrou 43,15% (2.534) das informações, agrupando animais com um menor SCS e maior lactose e produção de leite. As variáveis sólidos totais, lactose e gordura foram as que mais contribuíram dentro dos três componentes selecionados. A ACP e agrupamento podem ser ferramentas úteis na obtenção de características efetivas, sendo três fatores considerados importantes para explicar a relação entre produção e qualidade do leite.

ABSTRACT Using multivariate analyses, this study attempted to identify important traits explaining the relationship between milk production and quality produced by Holstein cows. Monthly milk records from three commercial dairy farms located in the Agreste region of Pernambuco, Brazil, collected in the period from 2007 to 2017, were used. A total of 5,872 observations regarding milk production, milk components and somatic cell score (SCS) were analyzed using principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis. According to the former analysis, the first three principal components explained 79.69% of the total variation. Total solids content contributed 29.66% of the variation in the first principal component, while lactose content contributed 49.43% of the variation in the second principal component. According to the latter analysis, three clusters differed for all characteristics (p<0.001) and cluster 2 concentrated 43.15% (2,534) of the information with lower SCS and higher lactose content and milk production. Total solids, lactose and fat were considered the most representative traits explaining the variability of the data set. The multivariate techniques used in this study proved useful in obtaining effective characteristics, with three factors considered important in explaining the relationship between Holstein cows’ milk production and quality.

RESUMO Em rebanhos leiteiros, um dos objetivos mais importantes da seleção é a melhoria da produção e composição do leite. Vários estudos demonstraram que os genes candidatos da kappa-caseína (CSN3) e da β-lactoglobulina (β-LG) estão associados a produção de leite, qualidade do leite e características de saúde em animais leiteiros. Portanto, o objetivo deste estudo foi detectar polimorfismos nos genes CSN3 e β-LG e avaliar possíveis associaçoes desses polimorfismos com a produção de leite em até 305 dias (305MY) e a capacidade de transmissão prevista (PTA) de leite em bovinos da raça Girolando. No total, 138 touros e 729 vacas (n = 867) foram amostrados. A genotipagem foi realizada pelo método PCR-RFLP utilizando as enzimas HinfI e HaeIII para os genes CSN3 e β-LG, respectivamente. Os resultados estatísticos revelaram dois alelos A e B para ambos os genes. Os genotipos e alelos mais frequentes para os genes CSN3 e β-LG foram respectivamente: AA (0,7324) e A (0,8558) e AB (0,4827) e A (0,5017). O teste x2 revelou que os dois loci estavam em equilibrio de Hardy-Weinberg (p <0,001). Os efeitos de substituiçao alélica para as variantes nao foram significativos para as características 305 MY e PTA para 305MY (p> 0,05). Portanto, as variantes alélicas identificadas nos genes β-LG e CSN3 devem ser mais investigadas antes de serem incluidas nos programas de melhoramento desenhados para bovinos leiteiros Girolando objetivando melhorar as características do leite analisadas no presente estudo.

SUMMARY In dairy farm animals, one the most important goal of the selection is the improvement of milk yield and composition. Several studies have demonstrated that the candidate genes of the kappa-casein (CSN3) and β - lactoglobulin (β-LG) are associated with milk yield, milk quality and health traits in dairy animals. Therefore the aim of this study was to detect polymorphisms in CSN3 and β-LG genes and its association with milk yield in up to 305 days (305MY) and predicted transmission capacity (PTA) for 305MY in Girolando cattle. Totally, 138 bulls and 729 cows (n=867) were sampled. The genotypes of both genes were obtained by the PCR-RFLP method using HinfI and HaeIII enzymes for CSN3 and β-LG genes, respectively. Statistical results revealed two alleles A and B for both genes. The genotypes and alleles more frequents for CSN3 and β-LG genes were respectively: AA (0.7324) and A (0.8558), and AB (0.4827) and A (0.5017). The x2 test revealed that the two loci were at Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (p<0.001). The allele substitution effects for the variants were not significant on 305MY and PTA for 305MY (p>0.05). The allele variants of β-LG and CSN3 might be more investigated before include them into future breeding schemes designed for Girolando dairy cattle with objective of improving milk traits as milk yield in up to 305 days (305MY) and predicted transmission capacity (PTA) for 305MY..

ABSTRACT Objective: The objective was to evaluate the association between sarcopenia (EWGSOP) and osteoporosis in older adults. Subjects and methods: This is a cross sectional analysis of a baseline evaluation of the SARCopenia and OSteoporosis in Older Adults with Cardiovascular Diseases Study (SARCOS). Three hundred and thirty-two subjects over 65 years of age were evaluated. Sarcopenia was determined by EWGSOP flowchart and Osteoporosis was established by WHO's criteria. Physical function, comorbidities and medications were evaluated. Results: Women were older (79.8 ± 7.2 years) than men (78.21 ± 6.7 years) (p = 0.042). Osteoporosis occurred in 24.8% of men, and in 42.7% of women (p < 0.001); sarcopenia occurred in 25.5% of men and in 17.7%, of women (p = 0.103). Osteoporosis was diagnosed in 68% of sarcopenic women, however only 20.7% (p = 0.009) of women with osteoporosis had sarcopenia; in older men, 44.7% of individuals with sarcopenia presented osteoporosis and 42.9% (p = 0.013) of men with osteoporosis showed sarcopenia. In an adjusted logistic regression analyses for sarcopenia, osteoporosis presented a statistically significant association with sarcopenia in men [OR: 2.930 (95% CI: 1.044-8.237; p = 0.041)] but not in women [OR: 2.081 (0.787-5.5; p = 0.142)]; in the adjusted logistic regression analyses for osteoporosis, a statistically significant association occurred in men [OR: 2.984 (95% CI: 1.144-7.809; p = 0.025)], but not in women [OR: 2.093 (0.962-3.714; p = 0.137)]. Conclusion: According to sex, there are significant differences in the association between sarcopenia EWGSOP and osteoporosis in outpatient older adults. It is strong and significant in males; in females, despite showing a positive trend, it was not statistically significant.

RESUMO Para investigar a relação entre contagens de células somáticas (CCS) e características atualmente selecionadas (produção de leite, gordura, proteína, lactose, sólidos totais e sólidos não gordurosos) em vacas leiteiras holandesas em clima semiárido brasileiro, foram coletados dados de 272 vacas de janeiro de 2007 a dezembro 2016. As fazendas foram localizadas na região Agreste do estado de Pernambuco, cujas características climáticas, de acordo com o Instituto Nacional de meteorologia-INMET, foram: temperatura média anual de 25,21°C; precipitação média anual de 562,07 mm e umidade relativa média anual de 75,61%. Foi analisado um total de 4.586 registros de contagens de células somáticas (CCS) no leite, produção de leite e componentes lácteos. A CCS foi transformada logaritmicamente em ECS ECS = log 2 ( CCS / 100 . 000 ) + 3 ) . Dez ECS foram obtidos para determinar seus efeitos sobre a produção e composição do leite. Os dados foram processados usando os comandos PROC GLM e PROC CORR do SAS. Os resultados mostraram correlações positivas entre ECS e gordura, proteína, sólidos totais e teores de sólidos não gordurosos, enquanto o ECS e o teor de lactose e o rendimento do leite foram correlacionados negativamente. A maior produção de leite (34,43 kg/vaca/dia) foi obtida para o menor ECS (0; 0 a 24 células x 1000/mL). A produção de leite e a lactose diminuíram quando os percentuais de proteína e gordura aumentaram, principalmente quando o ECS foi acima de cinco. O aumento da ECS influenciou negativamente a produção e a composição do leite em vacas de holandesas criadas no clima semiárido brasileiro.

SUMMARY This study aimed to investigate the relationship among somatic cell scores (SCS) and currently selected traits (milk yield, and fat, protein, lactose, total solids and no-fat-solids contents) in Holstein dairy cows in a semi-arid climate. The data were collected from available records of 272 Holstein cows from January 2007 to December 2016. Farms were located in Agreste region of Pernambuco whose climatic characteristics according to Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia-INMET were: average annual temperature of 25.21 °C; average annual precipitation 562.07 mm, and average annual relative humidity 75.61%.. A total of 4,586 records of somatic cell counts (SCC) in the milk, milk yield and milk components was analyzed. The SCC was transformed logarithmically into SCS SCS = log 2 ( SCC / 100 , 000 ) + 3 ) before statistical investigation. Ten SCS were obtained for determining their effects on milk yield and composition. Data were processed using PROC GLM and PROC CORR procedures in SAS. Results showed positive correlations among SCS and fat, protein, total solids and solids-non-fat contents, while the SCS and lactose content and milk yield were negatively correlated. The highest milk yield (34.43 kg/cow/day) was obtained for the lowest SCS (0; 0 to 24 cells x 1000/mL). The milk yield and lactose decreased while protein and fat contents increased when SCS increased mostly above score five (400 to 799 cells x 1000/mL). It was observed that the increase in SCS influenced negatively milk yield and composition in Holstein cows created in the semi-arid climate in Brazil.

RESUMO Objetivo: Descrever o perfil dos estudantes de Medicina ingressantes na primeira turma do curso de graduação em Medicina da Faculdade Israelita de Ciências da Saúde Albert Einstein. Métodos: Os dados foram coletados a partir de uma pesquisa realizada pela internet durante o curso de Bioestatística, em agosto de 2016. A pesquisa abordou características sociodemográficas, dados do ensino médio e dos vestibulares, prática de atividade física, lazer, parentesco médico e especialidade que pretendia seguir. Resultados: A maioria dos estudantes de Medicina era do sexo feminino, procedente do Estado de São Paulo, com idade entre 18 a 21 anos, estudou o Ensino Médio em escola particular, fez cursinho pré-vestibular e prestou mais de cinco vestibulares no ano de ingresso na faculdade. Em geral, realizavam atividade física regularmente e tinham atividades de lazer comuns à essa faixa etária. A maior parte (58%) tinha algum parentesco médico e mais da metade (52%) não sabia qual especialidade seguir. Não houve associação entre parentesco médico e escolha da especialidade (p = 0,390). Conclusão: Apesar de ser a primeira turma e de ter passado por um processo seletivo diferenciado, os dados mostraram que o perfil dos alunos era semelhante ao encontrado em outras faculdades.

ABSTRACT Objective: To describe first medical students' profile of the Faculdade Israelita de Ciências da Saúde Albert Einstein. Methods: Data were collected using an electronic questionnaire during the Biostatistics course in August of 2016. The students were inquired about demographic characteristics, data on their secondary education and college entrance exams, practice of physical exercise, leisure activities done, to have a physician in the family, and specialty that they intended to pursue as a career. Results: Most of the students were women aged 18 to 21 years and who were originally from the state of São Paulo, had received secondary education in a private school, took a course to prepare for college entrance exam, and participated in more than 5 college entrance exams in the same year they entered in the School of Medicine. The majority of participants practiced physical exercise regularly and were engaged in common leisure activities. Most of students (58%) had a physician in the family and more than half (52%) did not know which specialty to pursue as career. There was no association between relationship with a physician and the student's choice of a specialty (p=0.390). Conclusion: Although it was the first group of student of School of Medicine at Faculdade Israelita de Ciências da Saúde Albert Einstein who took a different admission process, our data showed that students' profile is similar to students from other colleges.

Resumo A reutilização dos resíduos de construção civil vem sendo uma estratégia do setor para alcançar a sustentabilidade, mesmo sendo aplicada em um pequeno volume de obras. A variabilidade do resíduo de concreto é uma condição inerente do produto, que precisa ser levada em consideração, e o controle do processo produtivo de concretos produzidos com resíduos de concreto pode ser uma maneira de majorar a qualidade do compósito final. Nesse sentido, este artigo tem por objetivo avaliar a eficiência do processo de mistura e do tipo de misturador ante a fragilidade do desempenho de concretos com agregados graúdos reciclados de concreto e verificar a influência na resistência à compressão. Como objetivo específico tem-se o efeito do misturador no desempenho do concreto. O agregado graúdo reciclado de concreto foi usado em substituição total ao agregado graúdo natural. E os resultados mostraram que não há diferença significativa entre os concretos produzidos a partir de diferentes ordens de misturas; ambas promoveram resultados satisfatórios de resistência à compressão na idade de 28 dias. Porém, as misturas realizadas em misturador de eixo vertical se mostraram mais eficientes que as misturas produzidas em betoneiras de eixo inclinado, uma vez que os concretos produzidos pelas primeiras se mostram com menor coeficiente de variação. Acredita-se que as características do equipamento contribuíram para uma melhor homogeneidade, levando à menor variabilidade nos resultados do concreto.

Abstract The reuse of construction waste is a strategy employed to achieve sustainability, however, only a small number of construction initiatives use it. The variability of concrete residue is an inherent condition of this product and it must be considered. The control of the production process of concrete produced with concrete waste can improve the quality of the final composite. This paper aims to evaluate the effect of the mixing process and the mixer type on the fragility of recycled coarse aggregate concrete and to investigate their influence on compressive strength. This study also evaluates the effect of the mixer on concrete performance. Recycled coarse aggregate concrete was used as a total replacement for natural coarse aggregate. The results showed no significant differences between concrete produced from different types of mixtures, however, both yielded satisfactory compressive strength results at 28 days. However, the mixtures made in the vertical shaft mixer were more efficient than the mixtures produced in the inclined axis mixer, as the concrete produced by the former presented a lower variation coefficient. The study concluded that the equipment's characteristics contributed to better uniformity, leading to less variability in the resulting concrete.

RESUMO OBJETIVO Analisar se características dos dirigentes, das escolas e do currículo escolar estão associadas à implantação de programas de prevenção ao uso de drogas nas escolas do ciclo fundamental II e médio. MÉTODOS Estudo transversal, com amostra aleatória sistemática de 263 dirigentes escolares. Os dados foram coletados nos anos de 2012 e 2013 por meio de um programa de envio de formulários pela internet. Aplicou-se questionário fechado, de autopreenchimento on-line. A análise estatística incluiu testes Qui-quadrado e modelos de regressão logística. A variável desfecho foi a presença de programa de prevenção ao uso de drogas inserido no cotidiano e no programa pedagógico da escola. As variáveis explicativas foram divididas em: dados demográficos do dirigente; características da escola e do currículo; educação em saúde; e consumo de drogas na escola. RESULTADOS Constatou-se que 42,5% (IC95% 36,1–49,1) das escolas avaliadas possuíam programa de prevenção ao uso de drogas. Com o modelo de regressão logística múltipla, observou-se que, a cada ano de atuação do dirigente na educação, a chance de a escola ter um programa aumentava em aproximadamente 4,0%. O fato de experimentar técnicas de ensino inovadoras também aumentou em cerca de seis vezes a chance de a escola desenvolver um programa de prevenção ao uso de drogas. As dificuldades na implantação dos programas foram mais presentes nas redes estadual e municipal, quando comparadas à rede privada, destacando-se: a falta de material didático, a falta de dinheiro e as demandas concorrentes para ensino de outras disciplinas. CONCLUSÕES A implantação de programas de prevenção ao uso de drogas no município de São Paulo está associada à experiência do dirigente escolar na educação e nas estratégias de ensino da escola.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To analyze if characteristics of managers, schools, and curriculum are associated with the implementation of programs for drug abuse prevention in elementary and high schools. METHODS Cross-sectional study, with random sample of 263 school managers. Data were collected between 2012 and 2013 by a program that sends forms via internet. A closed self-filling questionnaire was applied online. Statistical analysis included Chi-square tests and logistic regression models. The outcome variable was the presence of program for drug abuse prevention inserted in the daily life and educational program of the school. The explanatory variables were divided into: demographic data of the manager; characteristics of the school and of the curriculum; health education; and drug use in the school. RESULTS We found that 42.5% (95%CI 36.1–49.1) of the evaluated schools had programs for drug abuse prevention. With the multiple logistic regression model, we observed that the more time the manager has worked with education, the chance of the school having a program increased at about 4.0%. Experimenting with innovative teaching techniques also increased at about six times the chance of the school developing a program for drug abuse prevention. The difficulties in the implementation of the programs were more present in state and municipal schools, when compared with private schools, due to, for instance: lack of teaching materials, lack of money, and competing demands for teaching other subjects. CONCLUSIONS The implementation of programs for drug abuse prevention in the city of Sao Paulo is associated with the experience of the manager in education and with the teaching strategies of the school.

RESUMO OBJETIVO Analisar se características dos dirigentes, das escolas e do currículo escolar estão associadas à implantação de programas de prevenção ao uso de drogas nas escolas do ciclo fundamental II e médio. MÉTODOS Estudo transversal, com amostra aleatória sistemática de 263 dirigentes escolares. Os dados foram coletados nos anos de 2012 e 2013 por meio de um programa de envio de formulários pela internet. Aplicou-se questionário fechado, de autopreenchimento on-line. A análise estatística incluiu testes Qui-quadrado e modelos de regressão logística. A variável desfecho foi a presença de programa de prevenção ao uso de drogas inserido no cotidiano e no programa pedagógico da escola. As variáveis explicativas foram divididas em: dados demográficos do dirigente; características da escola e do currículo; educação em saúde; e consumo de drogas na escola. RESULTADOS Constatou-se que 42,5% (IC95% 36,1–49,1) das escolas avaliadas possuíam programa de prevenção ao uso de drogas. Com o modelo de regressão logística múltipla, observou-se que, a cada ano de atuação do dirigente na educação, a chance de a escola ter um programa aumentava em aproximadamente 4,0%. O fato de experimentar técnicas de ensino inovadoras também aumentou em cerca de seis vezes a chance de a escola desenvolver um programa de prevenção ao uso de drogas. As dificuldades na implantação dos programas foram mais presentes nas redes estadual e municipal, quando comparadas à rede privada, destacando-se: a falta de material didático, a falta de dinheiro e as demandas concorrentes para ensino de outras disciplinas. CONCLUSÕES A implantação de programas de prevenção ao uso de drogas no município de São Paulo está associada à experiência do dirigente escolar na educação e nas estratégias de ensino da escola.

Objective: To measure and compare tibial torsion values as assessed by goniometry and three-dimensional kinematics. In addition, the impact of each one of these measurements on kinematic and kinetic results for normal gait was determined.Methods: Twenty-three healthy and fully ambulatory patients were assessed, 11 women and 12 men, from 20 to 40 years old. Data were collected at a laboratory for the three-dimensional analysis of movement with 10 cameras and two force plates. Tibial torsion measurements were obtained using goniometry and three-dimensional kinematics based on the Plug-in Gait model. Afterwards, both procedures were compared, and the impact of each result was assessed on the kinematic and kinetic modeling of the knee and ankle.Results: Pearson's linear correlation coefficient (r=0,504) showed a moderate correlation between the three-dimensional kinematics and goniometry, and between the changes in the measurements. Regarding the processed kinematic and kinetic results for every torsion position, no significant differences were noticed among any of the studied variables (p>0.05).Conclusion: Although statistical correlation among tibial torsion angles by goniometry and three-dimensional kinematic were moderate, kinematic and kinetic analysis of the joints did not reveal any significant changes. This exploratory study was undertaken in an Adult Intensive Care Unit in the teaching hospital in Curitiba in the Brazilian state of Paraná, with data being collected in August and September 2010. The participants were eight nursing professionals, and the aim was to understand the nursing team's perception regarding the violence which occurred in the unit, and this team's reactions to the event. The data obtained through group interviews and Content Analysis allowed the following categories to be identified: 'The violence arising from the patient against the nursing team'; 'Reasons for violence during nursing care'; and 'The nursing team's reaction to the violence caused by the patient'. It was found that the violence occurs as a result of the patient's problem not been resolved, and may come from family members or from patients, and can result from lack of communication ahead of the care being undertaken. It is concluded that communication is an instrument for the nursing care and can contribute to non-violence for the individuals who work to promote healthcare.

Investigación exploratoria en Unidad de Terapia Intensiva adulta de un hospital de enseñanza de Curitiba/Paraná, con obtención de datos de agosto a septiembre de 2010. Participaron ocho profesionales de enfermería, cuyos objetivos fueron aprehender la percepción del equipo de enfermería sobre la violencia en la unidad y reacciones de este equipo acerca del evento. Los datos obtenidos, por entrevista en grupo y por el Análisis de Contenido, permitieron las siguientes categorías: la violencia del paciente contra el equipo de enfermería; motivos de violencia durante el cuidado de enfermería y reacción del equipo de enfermería a la violencia provocada por el paciente. Se llegó a la conclusión de que la violencia ocurre por ignorarse el problema del paciente, siendo posible ser eso de responsabilidad de familiares o de pacientes y por la falta de comunicación como antecipación del cuidado. Se constata que la comunicación es instrumento para el cuidado de enfermería y puede contribuir para la no violencia a los individuos que trabajan para promover el cuidado en salud.

Pesquisa exploratória em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva adulto de um hospital de ensino de Curitiba/Paraná, com coleta de dados de agosto a setembro de 2010. Participaram oito profissionais de enfermagem, cujos objetivos foram apreender a percepção da equipe de enfermagem sobre a violência ocorrida na unidade e reações desta equipe mediante o evento. Os dados obtidos, por entrevista em grupo e pela Análise de Conteúdo, permitiram as seguintes categorias: a violência advinda do paciente contra a equipe enfermagem; motivos de violência durante o cuidado de enfermagem e reação da equipe de enfermagem à violência provocada pelo paciente. Encontrou-se que a violência ocorre pela não resolutividade do problema do paciente, podendo vir de familiares ou de pacientes e pela falta de comunicação como antecipação do cuidado. Conclui-se que a comunicação é instrumento para o cuidado de enfermagem e pode contribuir para a não violência aos indivíduos que trabalham para promover o cuidado em saúde.

OBJETIVO: Observar se os médicos identificam e se tratam o tabagismo de seus pacientes, bem como investigar possíveis associações entre essas práticas e os seguintes fatores: gênero, idade, estado civil, especialidade médica e tabagismo do médico. MÉTODOS: Estudo transversal realizado com 515 médicos atuantes em um hospital particular da cidade de São Paulo, por meio de um questionário confidencial enviado e respondido por e-mail. RESULTADOS: Dentre os médicos, 89% frequentemente ou sempre pergunta se seus pacientes fumam, enquanto apenas 39% respondeu que frequentemente ou sempre trata essa condição. A taxa observada de tabagismo entre os médicos foi de 5,8%. Entre os fatores estudados, observou-se que o tabagismo do médico está associado a menor frequência de tratamento do tabagismo dos pacientes e que ser de especialidade clínica é um fator associado a maior probabilidade de tratar o tabagismo dos pacientes. CONCLUSÃO: Além de identificar o tabagismo dos pacientes, é fundamental que os médicos ofereçam tratamento para essa condição. O conhecimento da atitude dos médicos a respeito da dependência de tabaco pode auxiliar no desenvolvimento de estratégias que resultem em aumento da oferta de tratamento aos pacientes. O desenvolvimento de programas de tratamento para médicos tabagistas também pode ser uma medida com impacto positivo na oferta de tratamento aos pacientes.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate how often physicians identify and treat tobacco dependence and whether characteristics as gender, age, marital status, medical specialty and smoking status can influence their attitude towards this question. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was performed on 515 physicians working in a private hospital in São Paulo, Brazil, using a confidential voluntary questionnaire sent and answered electronically. RESULTS: We found that 89% of physicians who answered the research questionnaire often or always asked their patients about smoking habits, but only 39% often or always treated patients' tobacco dependence. In our sample, 5.8% of individuals were current smokers. Tobacco dependent physicians provided less treatment for smoking dependence compared with those who had never smoked, or were former smokers. Being a clinician was associated with higher probability to treat tobacco dependence. CONCLUSION: Physicians should not only address patients' smoking habits but also provide treatment whenever tobacco dependence is diagnosed. To understand physicians' attitude towards smoking may help to develop strategies to stimulate patients' treatment. The development of smoking cessation programs meant specifically for physicians may also be a strategy to enhance patients' treatment.
