ABSTRACT Coffee is a beverage that is widely consumed throughout the world, especially in Brazil. Its high market value makes it a prime target for fraud. To combat this fraud, different methods have been developed and improved over the years to detect potential adulterants in coffee and guarantee its authenticity. Nevertheless, these methods still pose a challenge. Therefore, this work aimed to identify adulteration markers in roasted and ground Arabica coffee using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to determine the flavonoid and phenolic acid profile. Samples of Arabica coffee beans and defective coffee beans were adulterated with coffee husks by preparing mixtures in different proportions (97:3, 90:10, 80:20 % w/w), which were then subjected to chromatographic and chemometric analyses, including principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA). Using the phenolic compounds associated with chemometric methods, protocatechuic acid was identified as a marker of adulteration in roasted and ground coffee with Arabica coffee husks, even at low adulterant concentrations (3 %). world Brazil fraud authenticity Nevertheless challenge Therefore highperformance performance HPLC (HPLC profile 973, 973 97 3, 3 (97:3 9010, 9010 90 10, 10 90:10 8020 80 20 80:2 w/w, ww w/w , w w/w) analyses PCA (PCA PLSDA. Abstract The symbiosis between arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and plants represents an important alternative to increase yields in agricultural crops. The objective of the study was to evaluate the propagation of AMF isolated from soils with different management, and inoculated in Cucurbita pepo var. “Grey Zucchini.” A trap culture was established as a means of AMF propagation and a block design was used (five treatments x 15 repetitions). The native AMF came from three systems (T1 = secondary vegetation; T2 = multipurpose system; T3 = agricultural system). A positive (CP = GLUMIX®MICORRIZAS) and negative (CN = no inoculation) control were used. Mycorrhizal inoculation began in the seedbed, using Peat Moss-sterile soil (50:50 v/v). The substrate method with 12.5 g of native inoculant (T1 = 46 spores; T2 = 32 spores and T3 = 22 spores) was used as the inoculation method. In CP, 5 g of product = 100 spores were used. The results indicate that the greatest mycorrhizal propagation occurred in CP and T1, with a spore multiplication of 135.20 ± 26.24 and 74.67 ± 5.56 spores in 10 g of soil, and identifying a native consortium made up of AMF spores from the Glomaceae and Gigasporacea families. In conclusion, C. pepo represents a promising host for the trapping and multiplication of AMF.

Abstract One physical modification (autoclaving) and five chemical modifications (lintnerization, crosslinking, acetylation, hydroxypropylation, and oxidation) were performed on the native oat starch. The starches were mixed with chitosan (Ch) and plasticizer (glycerol) to make films. The film-forming solutions (FFS) were characterized rheologically and evaluated for physical properties (color, thickness, humidity and solubility), water vapor and oxygen permeability (10 and 25 °C), and mechanical properties. Antibacterial activity was evaluated against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes by the agar diffusion. The functionality of the films as packaging in ground pork was evaluated by counting fecal coliforms and total aerobes for 21 days at 4°C. All the FFS presented a pseudoplastic-type behavior. The addition of Ch increased the stress at fracture (TF) and decreased the percentage elongation (% E) in all the films; being the Oxidized-Ch formulation the one that presented the greatest increase (≈ 200 %) in TF and the smallest decrease (38 %) in % E. All formulations with Ch presented antibacterial activity, which was higher in the Oxidized-Ch film and decreased with the evaluation time. The results generally indicated that the Oxidized-Ch film may represent a suitable formulation as antibacterial packaging with adequate physical, mechanical, and barrier properties.

Abstract The acceptance of modern myths about sexual aggression (AMMSA) scale is used in several countries, as gender-based violence increases significantly, especially after the pandemic, so it is crucial to understand its psychometric properties in different populations, as in this case with a Peruvian sample. This included 743 participants, divided into two groups: those with no recorded history of violence and those with a recorded history of intimate partner violence. Two methods were used to assess the factor structure of the AMMSA, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), followed by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), to validate the structure of the scale. The results revealed a unidimensional 23-item model, which demonstrated the best parsimony and theoretical fit, supported by an alpha coefficient of 0.90. The invariance between the tested groups (gender and university) was adequate, and the assessment of convergent validity psychometrically supported the proposed model. The cut-off point was set at 65, with an area under the curve of 86.7 %. Consequently, a score ≥ 65 indicated the presence of these myths. The satisfactory results of the AMMSA allow us to evaluate and distinguish myths about sexual aggression in the Peruvian population.

ABSTRACT Objective: To determine the standard surgical times of the four most common general surgery procedures (unilateral inguinal hernioplasty, bilateral inguinal hernioplasty, umbilical hernioplasty and cholecystectomy) in a second-level hospital and to estimate the probability of extending the time of each of the procedures. Efficiency is a widely studied subject in economics. It involves the need for fewer elements in the production of a certain level of goods and services. Therefore, it is extremely important to consider it in the field of surgery. Materials and methods: An observational, descriptive and retrospective study. It used the operating room records from 2017 to 2019 of the General Surgery service in a second-level hospital. Based on this information, the time required for each procedure was standardized using the mean for each one (umbilical hernioplasty, unilateral or bilateral inguinal hernioplasty and cholecystectomy). The probability of extending surgical times was estimated based on the obtained data and confidence interval. Results: The mean for unilateral inguinal hernioplasty was 76 min (95.00 % CI: 72-80 min, SD 23), for bilateral inguinal hernioplasty 104.38 min (95.00 % CI: 91-116 min, SD 41.7), for umbilical hernioplasty 59.31 min (95.00 % CI: 54-63 min, SD 29.99) and for cholecystectomy 85.735 min (95.00 % CI: 83-88 min). The probability of scheduling three surgical interventions and completing all of them on time (upper limit of the CI) is 92.69 %, and the probability of scheduling three surgical interventions and extending the time of all of them is 0.0016 % (lower limit of the CI). Conclusions: Planning scheduled operations using standardized surgical times is feasible. Updated statistics on surgical procedures (average time for each procedure) are required since it is possible to more accurately detect and supervise operating room dynamics by identifying opportunity areas. This will make operating room time more efficient for the benefit of health care systems and patients.

ABSTRACT Objective. To estimate the costs incurred in the control of Aedes aegypti in the Loreto region, during the years 2017 and 2018. Materials and methods. We conducted a partial retrospective economic evaluation of the costs of Aedes aegypti control of the Regional Health Directorate Loreto, during the implementation of the Regional Plan for Surveillance and Control of Aedes aegypti. Documentation such as plans, intervention reports and payment slips were reviewed, and interviews were conducted with professional personnel involved in vector control, on the costs of control interventions. Results. We found that the costs incurred in dengue vector control in the Loreto Region in the two years were: PEN 3,807,858 and PEN 4,066,380 during 2017 and 2018, respectively (USD 1,175,264 and USD 1,1210,232 at the 2017 and 2018 exchange rate). However, the effect of control activities is short-lived. Conclusions. The high cost involved in vector control with the methods currently used and the short duration of its effect make it unsustainable. Studies should be conducted in order to find other more efficient methods for dengue control.

ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. Abstract Sesbania virgata (Cav.) Pers. seeds are protein sources with health and environmental benefits. In this research, proteins with lectin activity were identified in a protein fraction from S. virgata seeds (PFLA), as well its antioxidant and antimicrobial potentials, in addition to cytotoxic effects. To obtain PFLA, seed flour was homogenized in Glycine-NaOH (100 mM; pH 9.0; NaCl 150 mM) and precipitated in ammonium sulfate. PFLA concentrates bioactive lectins (32 HU/mL, 480 HU/gFa, 18.862 HU/mgP) and essential amino acids (13.36 g/100g protein). PFLA exerts antioxidant activity, acting as a promising metal chelating agent (~77% of activity). Analyzes of cell culture assay results suggest that antioxidant activity of PFLA may be associated with the recruitment of essential molecules to prevent the metabolic impairment of cells exposed to oxidative stress. PFLA (256 – 512 µg/mL) also exhibits antifungal activity, inhibiting the growth of Aspergillus flavus, Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis and Penicillium citrinum. Cytotoxic analysis indicates a tendency of low interference in the proliferation of 3T3 and HepG2 cells in the range of PFLA concentrations with biological activity. These findings support the notion that PFLA is a promising adjuvant to be applied in current policies on the management of metal ion chelation and fungal infections. Cav. Cav (Cav. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Embolization is a promising treatment strategy for cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). However, consensus regarding the main complications or long-term outcomes of embolization in AVMs remains lacking. OBJECTIVE: To characterize the most prevalent complications and long-term outcomes in patients with AVM undergoing therapeutic embolization. DESIGN AND SETTING: This systematic review was conducted at the Federal University of Alagoas, Arapiraca, Brazil. METHODS: This systematic review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses criteria. Data were obtained from MEDLINE, PubMed, LILACS, and SciELO databases, which included the epidemiological profile of the population, characteristics of the proposed therapy, complications (hemorrhagic events and neurological deficits), and long-term outcomes (modified Rankin scale pre- and post-treatment, AVM recanalization, complete obliteration, and deaths). RESULTS: Overall, the analysis included 34 articles (2,799 patients). Grade III Spetzler–Martin AVMs were observed in 34.2% of cases. Notably, 39.3% of patients underwent embolization combined with radiosurgery. The most frequently reported long-term complication was hemorrhage, which occurred in 8.7% of patients at a mean follow-up period of 58.6 months. Further, 6.3% of patients exhibited neurological deficits after an average of 34.7 months. Complete obliteration was achieved in 51.4% of the cases after a mean period of 36 months. Recanalization of AVMs was observed in 3.5% of patients. Long-term death occurred in 4.0% of patients. CONCLUSION: Embolization of AVMs is an increasingly safe strategy with low long-term complications and satisfactory outcomes, especially in patients who have undergone combination therapies. ABSTRACT Objective: To verify and compare the radiopacity of four composite resins available in the national market and analyze their compliance with International Standards Organization 4049 guidelines. Methods: Five specimens of each Bulk Fill composite resin were prepared, and radiographs were taken alongside an aluminum step wedge using a digital imaging system. The images were processed using software capable of measuring mean grey values (MGVs), which were then converted to millimeters of aluminum. Statistical analysis was performed (P 0.05). Results: The four tested composite resins showed radiopacity values higher than those of enamel and dentin, standing out the Tetric N-Ceram- Ivoclar Vivadent (11.05 mmAl). All samples are in accord with the ISO 4049 radiopacity standard. The resin Opus Bulk Fill and Tetric N-Ceram were compared to each other, revealing statistically significant differences (p0,05). Conclusion: All materials demonstrated radiopacity values higher than those of dentin and enamel. All samples are in accordance with the International Organization for Standardization 4049 guidelines. More studies should be conducted with the composite resins used in this study due to the limited research involving these specific resins. ABSTRACT Sporotrichosis is a neglected mycosis that affects human and animal hosts, including domestic cats. In Brazil, its most frequently diagnosed etiological agent is Sporothrix brasiliensis. Zoonotic transmission of S. brasiliensis occurs via direct contact between an infected cat and a susceptible human host. Notification of confirmed cases of feline sporotrichosis is not mandatory in Brazil. The metropolitan area of Goiania city can be considered a silent area for the occurrence of feline sporotrichosis. In this context, voluntary reporting of feline sporotrichosis cases is recommended for all healthcare professionals. This study aimed to report the first occurrence of S. brasiliensis in a cat from the metropolitan area of Goiania city. Cytopathology, mycology, thermal dimorphism and calmodulin gene amplification tests were performed. The mycological and molecular biological diagnoses corresponded to S. brasiliensis. The etiological agent of zoonotic sporotrichosis was detected in the metropolitan area of Goiania city, and therefore there is a risk of the emergence of new cases of cats infected with S. brasiliensis and the occurrence of zoonotic transmission of this fungus. hosts Brazil S host context professionals Cytopathology mycology performed fungus

Abstract The polymer transition temperature is a crucial parameter in the industry for knowing raw materials before starting the manufacturing process. The current work reports a novel low-cost prototype instrument to measure the transition temperature with reliable accuracy. The equipment was built using commercial load cells composed of strain gauges in combination with an Arduino® microcontroller. The prototype measurement quality was validated by measuring the transition temperatures of most commercial polymers. The obtained values were compared with values obtained by conventional thermal analysis known as differential scanning calorimetric and thermo-mechanical analysis (DSC and TMA), which results in identical values. process lowcost low cost accuracy Arduino microcontroller polymers thermomechanical thermo mechanical DSC TMA, TMA , TMA)

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the dietary addition of calcium anacardate as a source of phenolic compounds on the reproductive performance and blood antioxidant parameters of New Zealand White female rabbits. Twenty-seven New Zealand White female rabbits were distributed in a randomized complete block design with three treatments and nine replicates, considering one animal as the experimental unit. The treatments consisted of pelleted diets with different inclusion levels of calcium anacardate (0, 0.5, and 1.0%). The inclusion of calcium anacardate in the diets increased the concentration of phenolic compounds and the antioxidant capacity in the blood of lactating female rabbits. Calcium anacardate at the level of 1.0% improves the feed conversion ratio during gestation and increases the phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity in the blood serum of female rabbits at 21 days of lactation. Twentyseven Twenty seven replicates unit 0, 0 (0 05 5 0.5 1.0%. 10 . 1 1.0%) 1.0 2 lactation ( 0. 1.
