RESUMO: O uso de materiais com alto teor de carbono orgânico vem sendo estudado para a remoção de herbicidas em água, como o carvão ativado. Poucas alternativas de baixo custo são investigadas para a substituição desse tipo de material na remoção de herbicidas em água. Nesse contexto, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar resíduos agroindustriais (bagaço de uva branca, palhada de milho, casca de amendoim e casca de soja) como adsorventes do diuron e hexazinone em água potável. Amostras de água potável foram coletadas de fonte para o consumo humano. Foram adicionadas cinco concentrações (1, 2, 3, 4 e 5 mg mL-1) de cada herbicida em amostras de água potável. Os tratamentos consistiram em 10 mL da solução de água e herbicidas com 0,1 g de cada resíduo agroindustrial. A sorção foi avaliada utilizando o método do equilíbrio em batelada. A cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência (HPLC) foi utilizada para determinar a quantidade restante de herbicida em solução. O Kf (coeficiente de Freundlich) para o diuron foi mais pronunciado (9,94-11,93 mmol(1-1/n) L1/n kg-1) do que para o hexazinone (2,31-4,61 mmol(1-1/n) L1/n kg-1) em todos os adsorventes. A sorção percentual de diuron foi maior com bagaço de uva branca (51,15%) e casca de amendoim (52,44%), e a do hexazinone, com palha de milho (22,77%) e bagaço de uva branca (21,48%), em comparação com outros resíduos agroindustriais dos dois herbicidas. Embora a sorção de diuron tenha sido mais pronunciada que a de hexazinone, os valores de sorção obtidos neste estudo foram inferiores a 52,44% e considerados insatisfatórios em termos de remoção eficaz da água contaminada.

ABSTRACT: Materials with high organic carbon content are studied for the removal of herbicides from water, such as activated carbon. Low cost alternatives should be investigated for the substitution of this type of material in the removal of herbicides from water. In this context, the aim of this research was to evaluate four agro-industrial residues (white grape bagasse, corn straw, peanut shell and soybean hull) as adsorbents of diuron and hexazinone in drinking water. Samples of drinking water were collected from sources used for human consumption. Five concentrations (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mg mL-1) of each herbicide were added to the potable water samples. Each experimental unit consisted of 10 mL of a solution of water and herbicide with 0.1 g of each agro-industrial residue. Sorption was evaluated using the batch equilibrium method. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to determine the amount of herbicide present in the aqueous solution. The Kf (Freundlich coefficient) of diuron was higher (2.99-11.93 mmol(1-1/n) L1/n kg-1) than hexazinone (2.31-4.61 mmol(1-1/n) L1/n kg-1) for all adsorbents used. Diuron percentage sorption was higher with white grape bagasse (51.15%) and peanut husk (52.44%), and hexazinone with corn straw (22.77%) and white grape marc (21.48%), than other agro-industrial waste for both herbicides. Even though the sorption of diuron was more pronounced than that of hexazinone, the sorption values obtained in this study were less than 52.44% and considered unsatisfactory in terms of effective removal from contaminated water.

RESUMO: Os adjuvantes, como os óleos minerais, são amplamente utilizados na aplicação de herbicidas por reduzir a deriva e a evaporação das gotas, bem como por aumentar a absorção do herbicida pela planta. Contudo, pouco se sabe como o óleo mineral se comporta quando em contato com o solo. Assim, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar o transporte de atrazine via lixiviação com adição de óleo mineral em um solo agricultável sob condições de laboratório. Para quantificar a concentração do herbicida ao longo do perfil da coluna de solo de textura muito argilosa (30 cm), foi utilizada a 14C-atrazine (ring-U-14C) com 16.667 Bq de radioatividade por coluna em volume de 200 µL de solução e adicionado 0 (controle), 1% e 2% de óleo mineral (v/v) no volume de calda de aplicação. A atrazine foi aplicada na maior dose comercial recomendada para a cultura de cana-de-açúcar (4 kg ha-1). Após a simulação de uma precipitação de 200 mm durante 48 horas, cada coluna foi seccionada em seis partes de 5 cm, e os analitos de cada amostra de solo e do lixiviado foram quantificados por espectrometria de cintilação em meio líquido. A atrazine permaneceu na camada superficial do solo, entre 0 e 10 cm de profundidade, independentemente da adição de óleo mineral. Não foram detectados resíduos de atrazine na solução lixiviada (> 30 cm) em nenhum tratamento avaliado. A adição de óleo mineral no momento da aplicação de atrazine em pré-emergência não interferiu no transporte deste herbicida no perfil do solo agricultável via lixiviação; portanto, o adjuvante pode ter efeito positivo apenas na relação herbicida-planta.

ABSTRACT: Adjuvants, such as mineral oils, are widely used in the application of herbicides by reducing the drift and evaporation of the droplets and by increasing herbicide uptake by the plant. However, little is known about how mineral oil behaves when in contact with the soil. Thus, the objective of this research was to evaluate the transport of atrazine via leaching with the addition of mineral oil in a soil agricultural under laboratory conditions. To quantify the concentration of the herbicide along the profile of the very clay soil column (30 cm), 14C-atrazine (ring-U-14C) was used with 16,667 Bq of radioactivity per column in volume of 200 mL solution and 0 (control), 1, and 2% mineral oil (v/v) was added in the application volume. Atrazine was applied at the highest commercial dose recommended for sugarcane (4 kg ha-1). After simulation of a precipitation of 200 mm for 48 h, each column was sectioned into six parts of 5 cm and the analytes of each soil sample and the leachate were quantified by liquid scintillation spectrometry. The atrazine remained in the superficial layer of the soil, between 0 and 10 cm of depth, independent of the addition of mineral oil. No atrazine residues were detected in the leachate solution (> 30 cm) in any evaluated treatment. The addition of mineral oil at the time of application of pre-emergence atrazine did not interfere with the transport of this herbicide in the soil profile agricultural via leaching; therefore, the adjuvant may have positive effect only in the herbicide-plant relationship.

RESUMO: O glyphosate é facilmente exsudado pelas raízes das plantas. No entanto, ainda falta informação na literatura científica sobre a braquiária (Urochloa brizantha) é capaz de exsudar o glyphosate a ponto de influenciar o crescimento de culturas, como cana-de-açúcar e citros. Assim, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a translocação e exsudação radicular do 14C-glyphosate por U. brizantha e seu transporte em mudas de cana-de-açúcar e citros. Foram cultivadas mudas de cana-de-açúcar, variedade SP80-1842, e citros ‘Limão Rosa’ (Citrus limonia L. Osbeck) com a braquiária ao redor das mudas. Utilizando uma microsseringa, foi aplicado 14C-glyphosate nas folhas de braquiária. As plantas foram cultivadas por 12 dias após o tratamento (DAT). A radioatividade do herbicida foi avaliada por espectrômetro de cintilação líquida, depois de oxidado o solo e as partes das plantas (folhas, colmos e raízes) de braquiária, cana-de-açúcar e citros. A maior quantidade de glyphosate foi detectada nas folhas de braquiária, onde foram realizadas as aplicações, independentemente da cultura estudada. Foram detectados apenas traços do glyphosate (0,001%) no solo cultivado com cana-de-açúcar. Por outro lado, em citros, a braquiária exsudou 9,46% do glyphosate pelo sistema radicular no solo. A quantidade total do herbicida encontrada nas mudas de cana-de-açúcar e citros foi de apenas 0,006 e 0,095%, respectivamente, em todas as partes da planta - concentrações inferiores às necessárias para causar intoxicação nessas culturas. Diante dos resultados, é possível afirmar que a translocação do glyphosate em plantas jovens de U. brizantha associadas com citros foi maior em relação à cana-de-açúcar; ele não foi exsudado pelo sistema radicular da planta daninha com cana-de-açúcar, mas apresentou exsudação radicular com citros, não sendo em quantidade necessária para afetar a massa seca das culturas agrícolas.

ABSTRACT: Glyphosate is easily exuded by the roots of plants. However, there is still some lack of information in the scientific literature as to whether Urochloa brizantha is capable of exuding glyphosate to influence the growth of crops such as sugarcane and citrus. Thus, the objective of this research was to evaluate the translocation and root exudation of 14C-glyphosate by U. brizantha and its transport in sugarcane and citrus. Sugarcane seedlings, varieties SP80-1842, and citrus ‘Limão Rosa’ (Citrus limonia L. Osbeck) were cultivated with U. brizantha around the seedlings. Using a microsphere, 14C-glyphosate was applied on the leaves of U. brizantha. The plants were cultured for 12 days after treatment (DAT). The radioactivity of the herbicide was evaluated by liquid scintillation spectrometer, after oxidizing the soil and parts of the plants (leaves, culms and roots) of U. brizantha, sugarcane and citrus. The highest amount of glyphosate was detected in the U. brizantha leaves, where the applications were carried out, regardless of the culture studied. Only traces of glyphosate (0.001%) were detected in soil cultivated with sugarcane. On the other hand, in citrus, U. brizantha exuded 9.46% of the glyphosate by the root system in the soil. The total amount of herbicide found in sugarcane and citrus seedlings was only 0.006 and 0.095%, respectively, in all parts of the plant. These concentrations are lower than those required to cause intoxication in those crops. Considering the results, it is possible to state that the translocation of glyphosate in young plants of U. brizantha associated with citrus was higher in relation to sugarcane, and it was not exuded by the root system of the weed with sugarcane, but presented root exudation with citrus, however, the amount did not reach what is necessary to affect the dry mass of the agricultural crops.

RESUMO: O uso intensivo de pesticidas, como os herbicidas diuron e hexazinone, levam a uma preocupação quanto à preservação da qualidade da água dos recursos hídricos destinados ao consumo humano. Atualmente, as técnicas convencionais de tratamento de água não possuem alta capacidade de remover os herbicidas; portanto, surge a necessidade de estudar outras técnicas. O presente estudo teve por objetivo avaliar a eficiência de remoção dos herbicidas diuron e hexazinone presentes na água, através de um sistema de filtração comercial. O estudo foi realizado em um sistema de filtração composto pela seguinte sequência de filtros: filtro de areia e carvão granular ativado de casca de coco, filtro polipropileno de 20 mm, filtro de carvão ativado com sais de prata, filtro de polipropileno de 5 mm e osmose reversa. O afluente continha uma concentração inicial de 12,06 mg mL-1 de hexazinone e 37,70 mg mL-1 de diuron. As amostras foram coletadas em todos os filtros e submetidas à análise de turbidez e presença dos herbicidas por cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência. O conjunto de filtros removeu 99,31, 99,84 e 99,99% da turbidez da água, hexazinone e diuron, respectivamente, ao final do sistema. Após o processo de filtração, a água tratada apresentou qualidade adequada para o abastecimento público e consumo humano. A técnica empregada neste estudo é de fácil operação e possui baixo custo de aquisição e manutenção.

ABSTRACT: The intensive use of pesticides, such as the herbicides diuron and hexazinone, leads to a concern about the preservation of the water quality of the water resources destined for human consumption. Currently, conventional water treatment techniques do not have high capacity to remove herbicides; therefore, the need to study other techniques arises. The present study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of the removal of diuron and hexazinone herbicides present in water through a commercial filtration system. The study was carried out in a filtration system composed of the following sequence of filters: sand filter and coconut shell activated granular carbon, polypropylene filter 20 mm, activated carbon filter with silver salts, polypropylene filter 5 mm and reverse osmosis. The affluent contained an initial concentration of 12.06 mg mL-1 of hexazinone and 37.70 mg mL-1 of diuron. The samples were collected in all filters and subjected to the analysis of turbidity and presence of herbicides by high performance liquid chromatography. The filter set removed 99.31; 99.84 and 99.99% of water turbidity, hexazinone and diuron respectively at the end of the system. After the filtration process, the treated water presented adequate quality for public supply and human consumption. The technique employed in this study is easy to operate and has a low acquisition and maintenance cost.
