Abstract Objective: The aim of our study was to evaluate the expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 as a prognostic factor in patients diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma (HL). Methods: In the present study, 45 paraffin biopsies from patients up to 19 years old diagnosed with HL were used in two referral hospitals in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. Risk groups were classified into favorable and unfavorable, according to Ann Arbor. The expression of matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9 and their inhibitors was performed by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Data were analyzed using the GraphPad Prism 5 program. Results: MMP-2 intensity pattern was stronger (> 10% of the total field) in patients with stage III/ IV and B symptoms. MMP-2 showed an association with the risk group (p = 0.0388). That is, the stronger the MMP-2 marking, the greater the unfavorable risk. However, for MMP-9 there was no difference in the stronger intensity pattern in relation to stages I/II and III/IV, only in the presence of B symptoms. MMP-9 showed an association with B Symptoms (p = 0.0411). Therefore, patients with B symptoms have higher MMP-9 expression. Conclusion: Our results suggest that MMP-2 expression is associated with HL progression. While MMP-9 expression is related to the clinical worsening of these patients. However, further studies are needed to evaluate the exact role of these proteins in hematologic malignancies.

Resumo Objetivos: estimar a prevalência de atividade física no tempo livre e comportamento sedentário em adultos no Brasil. Métodos: estudo seccional, populacional, na amostra de 88.531 brasileiros da Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde de 2019; a atividade física (geral e modalidades aeróbias) no tempo livre foi mensurada conforme as diretrizes da Organização Mundial da Saúde; estimaram-se as prevalências ponderadas, e respectivos intervalos de confiança de 95% (IC95%), de atividade física, inatividade física e tempo sedentário. Resultados: a partir da amostra selecionada, 26,4% (IC95% 25,9;27,1) dos adultos brasileiros eram fisicamente ativos, 14,0% (IC95% 13,5;14,4) eram insuficientemente ativos e 59,5% (IC95% 58,8;60,2) eram inativos; o tempo sedentário ≥ 6 horas foi relatado por 30,1% (IC95% 29,5;30,8) da população; apenas 8,6% (IC95% 8,2;8,9) atenderam às recomendações de atividade física para fortalecimento muscular. Conclusão: a maioria dos brasileiros adultos era inativa e não atendeu às recomendações internacionais de atividade física no tempo livre e restrição de tempo sedentário.

Resumen Objetivos: estimar la prevalencia de actividad física en el tiempo libre y comportamiento sedentario de adultos en Brasil. Métodos: estudio seccional, poblacional, de la muestra de la Encuesta Nacional de Salud de 2019 a partir de lo cual, se estimó la prevalencia ponderada (porcentaje e intervalo de confianza del 95%) de actividad física (general y aeróbica), la inactividad física y el comportamiento sedentario. Resultados: según la muestra elegida, 26,4% (IC95% 25,9;27,1) son físicamente activos, 59,5% (IC95% 58,8;60,2) son inactivos, 14,0% (IC95% 13,5;14,4) son insuficientemente activos y 30,1% (IC95% 29,5;30,8) pasan ≥6 horas sedentarios en su tiempo libre; sólo el 8,6% (IC95% 8,2;8,9) de los adultos cumple con las recomendaciones de actividad física para fortalecimiento muscular. Conclusión: la mayoría de los adultos brasileños son inactivos, no cumplen con las recomendaciones internacionales de actividad física en el tiempo libre y la restricción del tiempo sedentario.

Resumo A pandemia de COVID-19 no Brasil atingiu níveis alarmantes. Na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, ela encontrou um cenário de desmonte da Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS) em meio à uma crise política, o que teve grande impacto nos territórios de maior vulnerabilidade. O objetivo desse estudo é analisar de que forma as favelas e equipes da APS organizaram-se para desenvolver ações comunitárias, ocupando espaços deixados pela falta de outras políticas públicas. Os resultados fazem parte da pesquisa qualitativa multicêntrica “Estratégias de abordagem dos aspectos subjetivos e sociais na Atenção Primária no contexto da pandemia”, onde foram analisados documentos orientadores públicos e 36 entrevistas em profundidade com trabalhadores e usuários da APS, organizadas em grades interpretativas. Como resultado, observou-se que houve iniciativas cogestoras dos trabalhadores e usuários da APS, a partir do surgimento de coletivos organizados e ativismo social, para o enfrentamento da pandemia, independente das normativas da Secretaria Municipal de Saúde e demais instâncias governamentais. A APS se apresentou como único equipamento público nos territórios de alta vulnerabilidade, onde a violência armada esteve presente mesmo durante a pandemia.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has reached alarming levels in Brazil. In Rio de Janeiro city, it arrived in a scenario in which Primary Health Care (PHC) was being dismantled in the midst of a political crisis, which had major impact on the most vulnerable territories. This study examined how favelas and PHC teams organised community-based action and occupy the vacuum left by the lack of public policies. The results form part of the multi-centre qualitative study “Strategies for approaching subjective and social aspects of Primary Care in the pandemic context”, using public guidance documents and 36 in-depth interviews of PHC workers and users, which were categorised into interpretive grids. Co-management initiatives by PHC workers and users were found to have arisen out of organised groups and social activism, to face the pandemic, independently of regulations from the Municipal Health Department and other government bodies. PHC figured as the only public facility in highly vulnerable territories, where armed violence was ongoing even during the pandemic.

Abstract Background Few studies have assessed elderly patients with Takayasu’s arteritis (TAK). Objectives To evaluate the progression of TAK in different age groups and its possible effects on drug treatment and disease activity. Methods This cross-sectional and retrospective cohort study included 66 TAK patients. Patients were interviewed and data of the 12 preceding months were collected from electronic medical records. The patients were divided into four quartiles according to current age and compared for clinical and laboratory data, treatment, comorbidities, disease status, and functional status. Statistical significance was set at p<0.05. Results The groups were Q1(22-36 years, n=16), Q2(37-42 years, n=18), Q3(43-49 years, n=17), and Q4(51-66 years, n=15). The frequency of patients with disease activity, fatigue, comorbidities and vascular impairments, and the TAK disease extent index were also comparable between the groups. With age, disease duration was longer (p=0.001), fewer patients used prednisone (Q1:43.8%, Q2:33.3%, Q3:11.8%, and Q4:6.7%; p=0.049) and immunosuppressive drugs [Q1:100.0%, Q2:66.7%, Q3:58.8%, and Q4:46.7%; Q1 versus Q3 (p=0.043), and Q1 versus Q4 (p=0.005) in post-hoc analyses], and patients had greater functional status impairment (Q2 versus Q3, p=0.003). In addition, the levels of disease damage, new TAK symptoms, and complications in the preceding 12 months were not different between the groups. Conclusions Older patients with TAK require minimal drug treatment, and have greater impairment of functional status, which may be attributed to aging-related factors.

Resumo Fundamentos Poucos estudos avaliaram pacientes idosos com Arterite de Takayasu (AT). Objetivo Avaliar o progresso de AT em diferentes grupos etários em seus possíveis efeitos sobre o tratamento medicamentoso e atividade da doença. Métodos este estudo transversal, retrospectivo, do tipo coorte incluiu 66 pacientes com AT. Os pacientes foram entrevistados, e dados dos 12 meses anteriores foram coletados dos prontuários médicos eletrônicos. Os pacientes foram divididos em quatro quartis de acordo com idade atual, e comparados quanto aos dados clínicos e laboratoriais, tratamento, comorbidades, status da doença, e status funcional. Um p<0,05 foi estabelecido como estatisticamente significativo. Resultados Os grupos foram definidos como Q1(22-36 anos, n=16), Q2(37-42 anos, n=18), Q3(43-49 anos, n=17), e Q4(51-66 anos, n=15). A frequência de pacientes com atividade da doença, fadiga, comorbidades e comprometimentos vasculares, e o índice de extensão da doença (DEI. Tak) foram comparáveis entre os grupos. Pacientes com idade mais avançada apresentaram maior duração da doença (p=0,001) e maior comprometimento do status funcional (Q2 versus Q3, p=0,003); menos pacientes usaram prednisona (Q1:43,8%; Q2:33,3%; Q3:11,8%; e Q4:6,7%; p=0,049) e agentes imunossupressores [Q1:100,0%; Q2:66,7%; Q3:58,8% e Q4:46,7%; Q1 versus Q3 (p=0,043) e Q1 versus Q4 (p=0,005) nas análises post-hoc]. Além disso, os níveis de danos da doença, sintomas de uma nova ocorrência de AT, e complicações nos 12 meses precedentes não foram diferentes entre os grupos. Conclusão Pacientes com AT e idade mais avançada requerem mínima intervenção medicamentosa e apresentam maior comprometimento no status funcional, o que pode ser atribuído a fatores relacionados ao envelhecimento.

Abstract Hydrogels are used for wound treatment, as they may contain one or more active components and protect the wound bed. Papain is one of the active substances that have been used with this purpose, alongside urea. In this paper, carboxypolymethylene hydrogels containing papain (2% and 10% concentrations) and urea (5% concentration) were produced. Physical-chemical stability was performed at 0, 7, 15 and 30 days at 2-8ºC, 25ºC and 40ºC, as well as the rheological aspects and proteolytic activity of papain by gel electrophoresis. Clinical efficacy of the formulations in patients with lower limb ulcers was also evaluated in a prospective, single-center, randomized, double-blind and comparative clinical trial. The results showed 7-day stability for the formulations under 25ºC, in addition to approximately 100% and 15% of protein activity for 10% and 2% papain hydrogel, respectively. The rheological profile was non-Newtonian for the 10% papain hydrogel tested. There were no significant differences regarding the mean time for healing of the lesions, although 10% papain presented a better approach to be used in all types of tissue present in the wound bed.

Abstract This work is a floristic study of Selaginella in Maranhão. The species survey is based on collections from fieldwork conducted between April 2006 and February 2023 and specimens from Maranhão deposited at the CCAA, HBRA, MG, and SLUI herbaria. Ten species were identified: Selaginella conduplicata, S. convoluta, S. erythropus, S. flagellata, S. gynostachya S. marginata, S. minima, S. radiata, S. simplex, and S. sulcata. We report the first record of S. gynostachya for Maranhão and the Cerrado domain in Brazil. Until now, this species was only known from areas of Amazonia. We provide a map with records, an identification key, and comments about the identification and geographic distribution of Selaginella species in Maranhão state. For the new record, we also provide photos.

Resumo O presente trabalho trata do estudo florístico de Selaginella no Maranhão. O levantamento de espécies foi realizado com base em coletas de campo realizadas entre abril de 2006 e fevereiro de 2023 e em análise de espécimes coletados no Maranhão e depositadas nos herbários CCAA, HBRA, MG e SLUI. Foram identificadas 10 espécies: Selaginella conduplicata, S. convoluta, S. erythropus, S. flagellata, S. gynostachya S. marginata, S. minima, S. radiata, S. simplex e S. sulcata. Relatamos a primeira ocorrência de S. gynostachya para o Maranhão e também para o domínio do Cerrado Brasileiro. Até então essa espécie era registrada somente em áreas amazônicas. Neste artigo apresentamos um mapa com pontos de coleta, uma chave de identificação e comentários sobre a identificação, ecologia e distribuição geográfica para as espécies de Selaginella do Maranhão. Para o novo registro apresentamos também fotos.

ABSTRACT Phenology is defined as the study of the timing of biological events and the biotic and abiotic factors that trigger them. This study reports a description of the phenology of Byrsonima pachyphylla and B. verbascifolia in an ecotonal area between the Cerrado and Amazonia biomes in the Brazilian state of Tocantins, to contribute to a better understanding of their autoecology in this region. Two populations of 15 adult individuals of each species, randomly selected in a Cerrado area in Porto Nacional, Tocantins, were surveyed for 12 months. Percentages were estimated of leaf flush, young, mature, and senescent leaves (vegetative phenology), flower buds, open flowers, green and ripe fruits (reproductive phenology) present in the canopy, as well as the synchrony of the reproductive phenophases. The vegetative and reproductive phenological events were seasonal and occurred mainly at the end of the dry season and during the transition from the dry to the rainy season. Considering the vegetative and reproductive phenology, B. pachyphylla was classified as “evergreen with continuous growth” and as a late-flowering species, whereas B. verbascifolia was classified as “evergreen with seasonal growth” and as an early-flowering species. The reproductive phenological activity of the species exhibited high synchrony. The results suggest that the vegetative and reproductive events are peculiar to each species and represent effective strategies for their survival in the Cerrado, which is markedly seasonal.

RESUMO A fenologia estuda o período de ocorrência de eventos biológicos e o que os estimulam, em relação a fatores bióticos e abióticos. A presente investigação teve como objetivo descrever a fenologia de Byrsonima pachyphylla e de B. verbascifolia em uma área ecotonal entre os Biomas Cerrado e Amazônia no estado do Tocantins com a finalidade contribuir para o melhor entendimento de sua autoecologia nessa região pouco estudada. Trinta indivíduos adultos de cada espécie, escolhidos aleatoriamente em área de Cerrado stricto sensu em Porto Nacional, Tocantins, foram acompanhados quinzenalmente durante doze meses. Foram estimadas as porcentagens de brotações e folhas em diferentes estágios de desenvolvimento (fenologia vegetativa), de botões florais, flores abertas, frutos verdes e maduros (fenologia reprodutiva), bem como a sincronia das fenofases reprodutivas. Os eventos fenológicos vegetativos e reprodutivos foram sazonais e ocorreram principalmente no final do período seco e início do chuvoso. A fenologia vegetativa de B. pachyphylla foi classificada como sempre verde com crescimento contínuo e sua floração como tardia, apresentando este evento principalmente no período seco. B. verbascifolia foi classificada como sempre verde com crescimento sazonal e apresentou produção de flores na transição entre o período seco e o chuvoso sendo considerada uma espécie de floração precoce. A atividade fenológica reprodutiva das espécies apresentou alta sincronia. Os resultados sugerem que os eventos vegetativos e reprodutivos são peculiares a cada espécie e estrategicamente eficientes para sua sobrevivência no Cerrado marcadamente sazonal.

Abstract The nutritional status of dogs is a prominent theme nowadays because it is considered one of the five vital parameters of animals. There are several techniques that allow diagnosing disorders or disturbances in the body condition of these patients. Although it has some subjectivity, as it is a visual and palpation evaluation, the body condition score (BCS) is the most used for this purpose. The present study evaluated radiographic, sonographic and anthropometric measurements of subcutaneous fat deposited in the dorsal region over the seventh lumbar vertebra of 100 dogs, compared to a double-blind classification of patients on the numerical scale of the BMC. There was a positive correlation of the sonographic measurements with the body condition score (p-value below 2 x 10-16 and R = 0.54) and the same was observed with the radiographic measurements (p-value below 2 x 10-16 and R = 0.56) and anthropometric evaluations (whose p-value ranged from 1.55 x 10-7 to 2.34 x 10-11 and its R was 0.24 to 0.36). With this, it was possible to identify greater intensity in the relationship of imaging exams with ECC. It is concluded that radiography and ultrasonography have great potential for use in clinical routine as a more accurate and affordable way to diagnose nutritional disorders. This is the first study to use such equipment together with imaging tests to contribute to the early diagnosis of changes in nutritional status and promote improvements in the follow-up of weight gain or weight loss programs.

Resumo O estado nutricional dos cães é um tema de destaque na atualidade por ser considerado um dos cinco parâmetros vitais dos animais. Diversas são as técnicas que permitem diagnosticar afecções ou distúrbios da condição corporal desses pacientes. Embora tenha certa subjetividade, por ser uma avaliação visual e de palpação, o escore de condição corporal (ECC) é o mais utilizado para essa finalidade. O presente estudo avaliou medidas radiográficas, ultrassonográficas e antropométricas da gordura subcutânea depositada na região dorsal sobre a sétima vértebra lombar de 100 cães, comparando-se com uma classificação duplo-cega dos pacientes na escala numérica do ECC. Houve correlação positiva das medidas ultrassonográficas com o escore de condição corporal (p-valor abaixo de 2 x 10-16 e R = 0,54) e o mesmo foi observado com as medidas radiográficas (p-valor abaixo de 2 x 10-16 e R = 0,56) e avaliações antropométricas (cujo p-valor variou de 1,55 x 10-7 a 2,34 x 10-11 e seu R foi de 0,24 a 0,36). Com isso, foi possível identificar maior intensidade na relação dos exames de imagem com o ECC. Conclui-se que a radiografia e a ultrassonografia apresentam grande potencial de utilização na rotina clínica como uma forma mais precisa e acessível de diagnosticar distúrbios nutricionais. Este é o primeiro estudo a utilizar tais equipamentos juntamente com exames de imagem para contribuir para o diagnóstico precoce de mudanças no estado nutricional e promover melhorias no acompanhamento de programas de ganho ou perda de peso.

Resumo: Objetivamos realizar uma reflexão sobre os desafios enfrentados para a materialização da política social no Brasil. Embasamo-nos nas leituras de Rui Mauro Marini e Florestan Fernandes quanto ao entendimento da formação econômico-social brasileira. Em nossos resultados, destacamos que a condição dependente, com presença da autocracia burguesa, imprime a manutenção da superexploração da força de trabalho e o aviltamento das políticas sociais em detrimento da acumulação capitalista. Abstract: We aim to carry out a reflection on the challenges faced for the materialization of social policy in Brazil. We base ourselves on the readings of Rui Mauro Marini and Florestan Fernandes in understanding the Brazilian socio-economic formation. In our results, we highlight that the dependent condition, with the presence of bourgeois autocracy, diminishes the maintenance of the super-exploitation of the work force, and in the debasement of social policy to the detriment of capitalist accumulation. ABSTRACT Objective: To verify the relationship between the rectus femoris cross-sectional area and diaphragmatic excursion with successful weaning from mechanical ventilation in chronic critically tracheostomized patients. Methods: This was a prospective observational cohort study. We included chronic critically ill patients (those who underwent tracheostomy placement after 10 days under mechanical ventilation). The rectus femoris cross-sectional area and diaphragmatic excursion were obtained by ultrasonography performed within the first 48 hours after tracheostomy. We measured rectus femoris cross-sectional area and diaphragmatic excursion to assess their association with weaning from mechanical ventilation, including their potential to predict successful weaning and survival throughout the intensive care unit stay. Results: Eighty-one patients were included. Forty-five patients (55%) were weaned from mechanical ventilation. The mortality rates were 42% and 61.7% in the intensive care unit and hospital, respectively. The fail group in relation to the success group at weaning presented a lower rectus femoris cross-sectional area (1.4 [0.8] versus 1.84 [0.76]cm2, p = 0.014) and lower diaphragmatic excursion (1.29 ± 0.62 versus 1.62 ± 0.51cm, p = 0.019). When rectus femoris cross-sectional area ≥ 1.80cm2 and diaphragmatic excursion ≥ 1.25cm was a combined condition, it had a strong association with successful weaning (adjusted OR = 20.81, 95%CI 2.38 - 182.28; p = 0.006) but not with intensive care unit survival (adjusted OR = 0.19, 95%CI 0.03 - 1.08; p = 0.061). Conclusion: Successful weaning from mechanical ventilation in chronic critically ill patients was associated with higher measurements of rectus femoris cross-sectional area and diaphragmatic excursion.

RESUMO Objetivo: Verificar a relação entre área de secção transversa do reto femoral e excursão diafragmática com sucesso no desmame da ventilação mecânica em pacientes críticos crônicos com traqueostomia. Métodos: Este foi um estudo de coorte observacional prospectivo. Incluímos pacientes críticos crônicos (aqueles submetidos à colocação de traqueostomia após 10 dias de ventilação mecânica). A área de secção transversa do reto femoral e a excursão diafragmática foram obtidas por ultrassonografia realizada dentro das primeiras 48 horas após a traqueostomia. Medimos a área de secção transversa do reto femoral e a excursão diafragmática para avaliar sua associação com o desmame da ventilação mecânica, incluindo sua capacidade de prever o sucesso no desmame e a sobrevida durante toda a internação na unidade de terapia intensiva. Resultados: Foram incluídos 81 pacientes. Quarenta e cinco pacientes (55%) foram desmamados da ventilação mecânica. A mortalidade foi de 42% e 61,7% na unidade de terapia intensiva e hospitalar, respectivamente. O grupo que falhou em relação ao grupo que obteve sucesso no desmame apresentou menor área transversa do reto femoral (1,4 [0,8] versus 1,84 [0,76]cm2, p = 0,014) e menor excursão diafragmática (1,29 ± 0,62 versus 1,62 ± 0,51cm, p = 0,019). Quando a área de secção transversa do reto femoral ≥ 1,80cm2 e a excursão diafragmática ≥ 1,25cm era uma condição combinada, apresentava forte associação com sucesso no desmame (RC ajustada de 20,81; IC95% 2,38 - 182,28; p = 0,006), mas não com sobrevida na unidade de terapia intensiva (RC ajustada de 0,19; IC95% 0,03 - 1,08; p = 0,061). Conclusão: O sucesso no desmame da ventilação mecânica em pacientes críticos crônicos foi associado a medidas maiores de área de secção transversa do reto femoral e da excursão diafragmática.

RESUMO As doenças priônicas são uma importante causa de demências rapidamente progressivas. Entre elas, a mais comum é a doença de Creutzfeldt-Jakob (DCJ) esporádica. É uma enfermidade rara e incurável, com rápida progressão para óbito. Objetivo: Descrever a abordagem diagnóstica de uma paciente com doença de Creutzfeldt-Jakob. Métodos: O diagnóstico é estabelecido pelo quadro clínico associado a alterações características na ressonância magnética cerebral, no eletroencefalograma e pela análise de alterações específicas no líquido cefalorraquidiano. Resultados: O presente relato descreve o caso de um paciente de 53 anos na cidade de Fortaleza (CE). O diagnóstico foi feito com base na condição clínica e por meio de testes diagnósticos, incluindo proteína 14-3-3 e análise Real-Time Quaking-Induced Conversion (RT QUIC). O diagnóstico diferencial foi realizado com outras causas rapidamente progressivas, como doenças infecciosas e imunomediadas. Conclusões: Por fim, foi estabelecido o diagnóstico de provável DCJ esporádica.

ABSTRACT Prion diseases are an important cause of rapidly progressive dementias. Among them, the most common is sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). It is a rare and incurable disease, with rapid progression to death. Objective: To describe the diagnostic approach of a patient with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Methods: The diagnosis is established through the clinical picture associated with characteristic changes in the brain magnetic resonance imaging, the electroencephalogram, and analysis of specific changes in the cerebrospinal fluid. Results: The present report describes the case of a 53-year-old patient in the city of Fortaleza-CE. The diagnosis was made based on the clinical condition and through diagnostic tests, including 14-3-3 protein and RT QUIC analysis. Differential diagnosis was performed with other rapidly progressive causes, such as infectious and immune-mediated diseases. Conclusions: The diagnosis of probable sporadic CJD was established.

RESUMO O jambu é uma erva condimentar usada no preparo de pratos típicos e fitoterápicos na região Amazônica. São utilizados as inflorescências, as folhas e os caules da planta. Além disso, o jambu possui inúmeras aplicações nas indústrias de cosméticos e alimentícia devido à presença do composto bioativo espilantol. Objetivou-se com este estudo avaliar o desempenho produtivo e fisiológico de genótipos de jambu, das espécies Acmella oleracea e Acmella ciliata, cultivados em hidroponia. O delineamento utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado com oito tratamentos e quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por genótipos de jambu (UFR-1, UFR-2, UFR-3, UFR-4, UFR-5, UFR-6, UFR-7 e UFR-8) coletados em diferentes localidades do estado do Pará. Foram avaliados o início do pendoamento, comprimento da rama principal, diâmetro da rama principal, área foliar, massa fresca da parte aérea, massa fresca das inflorescências, massa fresca das raízes, massa fresca total, taxa de fotossíntese líquida, condutância estomática, concentração interna de CO2 e eficiência instantânea de carboxilação. Os genótipos apresentaram comportamentos distintos em relação às características de crescimento, produtivas e fisiológicas. Os genótipos UFR-1, UFR-2, UFR-3, UFR-4 e UFR-7 exibiram maior precocidade de floração. Em geral, genótipos da espécie A. oleracea apresentaram menor taxa de fotossíntese líquida se comparados aos da espécie A. ciliata. Os genótipos da A. oleracea apresentaram capacidade de acúmulo de massa fresca total, além de elevado potencial para produção de inflorescências. Destacaram-se os genótipos UFR-2 e UFR-4, pois apresentaram maiores produções de massa fresca da parte aérea e inflorescências, respectivamente. Portanto devem ser considerados em programas de melhoramento da cultura.

ABSTRACT Jambu is a condiment herb used in the preparation of typical and herbal dishes in the Amazon Region. The inflorescences, leaves, and stems of the plant are used. In addition, jambu has numerous applications in the cosmetics and food industries due to the presence of the bioactive compound spilanthol. The objective of this study was to evaluate the productive and physiological performance of jambu genotypes of Acmella oleracea, and Acmella ciliata species grown in hydroponics. The experiment used was a completely randomized design with eight treatments and four replicates. The treatments consisted of jambu genotypes (UFR-1, UFR-2, UFR-3, UFR-4, UFR-5, UFR-6, UFR-7 and UFR-8) collected in different locations in the state of Pará. We evaluated the beginning of flowering, length of the main branch, diameter of the main branch, leaf area, shoot fresh mass, inflorescence fresh mass, root fresh mass, total fresh mass, net photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, internal CO2 concentration, and instant carboxylation efficiency. The genotypes presented different behaviors about the productive and physiological growth characteristics. The genotypes UFR-1, UFR-2, UFR-3, UFR-4 and UFR-7 exhibited greater precocity of flowering. In general, genotypes of the species A. oleracea presented lower rate of net photosynthesis when compared to those of the species A. ciliata. The genotypes of A. oleracea showed total fresh mass accumulation capacity, in addition to a high potential for inflorescence production. The genotypes UFR-2 and UFR-4 stood out because they presented higher yields of shoots fresh mass and inflorescences, respectively. Therefore, these genotypes should be considered in crop improvement programs.
