ABSTRACT: The present study evaluated the effect of increasing levels of wet brewery residue (WBR) as a source of roughage on nutrient intake, performance and ingestive behaviour in lambs finished in confinement. Thirty-two uncastrated male lambs were used, weaned at 50 days of age. The treatments comprised increasing levels of WBR as roughage in the diet: 31, 44, 57 and 70%, on a dry-matter. The concentrate consisted of disintegrated corn, soybean meal, calcitic limestone and mineral salt. There was a quadratic effect (P ≤ 0.05) from the increasing levels of WBR on the intake of DM, OM, CP and TCH. The intake of EE, NDF and ADF increased linearly (P ≤ 0.01), while TDN intake showed a linear reduction (P < .0001) for increases in the level of WBR. There was a quadratic effect (P ≤ 0.010) on the average daily weight gain (ADG) from the addition of WBR to the diet. The time spent on feeding and rumination (P ≤ 0.05), expressed in minutes, showed a linear increase. Feeding rate for DM showed decreasing linear behaviour (P ≤ 0.006), while NDF rumination rate showed increasing linear behaviour (P ≤ 0.013) due to the increased levels of WBR in the diet. There was a linear increase in the time spent on each feeding activity (P ≤ 0.007) with the increase in WBR in the diet. Maximum weight gain is achieved when 46.9% WBR is used as a source of roughage in the diet, and this level can be recommended for terminating lambs in confinement.

RESUMO: O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o efeito de níveis crescentes de resíduo úmido de cervejaria (RUC) como fonte de volume sobre o consumo de nutrientes, desempenho e comportamento ingestivo de cordeiros terminados em confinamento. Foram utilizados 32 cordeiros machos não castrados, desmamados aos 50 dias de idade. Os tratamentos consistiram em níveis crescentes de RUC como volumoso na dieta: 31, 44, 57 e 70%, na matéria seca. O concentrado consistia em milho desintegrado, farelo de soja, calcário calcítico e sal mineral. Houve efeito quadrático (P ≤ 0,05) dos níveis crescentes de RUC sobre o consumo de MS, MO, PB e CHT. O consumo de EE, FDN e FDA aumentou linearmente (P < .0001), enquanto o consumo de NDT apresentou redução linear (P < .0001) para aumentos no nível de WBR. Houve um efeito quadrático (P ≤ 0,010) no ganho de peso médio diário (GMD) da adição de RUC à dieta. O tempo gasto com alimentação e ruminação (P ≤ 0,05) e para mastigação total (P ≤ 0,003), expresso em minutos, apresentou aumento linear. A taxa de alimentação para MS apresentou comportamento linear decrescente (P ≤ 0,006), enquanto a taxa de ruminação da FDN apresentou comportamento linear crescente (P ≤ 0,013) devido ao aumento dos níveis de RUC na dieta. Houve aumento linear no tempo gasto em cada atividade alimentar (P ≤ 0,007) com o aumento da RUC na dieta. O ganho de peso máximo é alcançado quando 46,9% de RUC é usado como fonte de volumoso na dieta, e este nível pode ser recomendado para cordeiros terminados em confinamento.

Abstract Introduction: recent studies have suggested the use of neck circumference as a parameter capable of identifying risks of cardiometabolic complications and the accumulation of truncal fat caused by both antiretroviral therapy and the lifestyle of people with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Objective: to investigate the relationship between neck circumference and anthropometric indicators and to assess cardiometabolic risk and truncal obesity through proposed cut-off points. Methods: cross-sectional study including 233 people with HIV. Demographic, socioeconomic, lifestyle and clinical data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The anthropometric evaluation included: weight, height, body mass index (BMI) measurements; waist (WC), neck (NC), arm and arm muscle circumferences; triceps and subscapular skinfolds and their sum. ROC curves were constructed to determine the accuracy of NC in predicting cardiometabolic risk in people living with HIV. Results: the sample was 57.5 % male, with a mean age of 38.4 years (95 % CI: 37.2-39.7 years). NC showed a positive and significant correlation with all anthropometric variables analyzed (p < 0.05), and a higher correlation strength with WC and BMI. The NC cut-off point selected as a predictor of risk of cardiac metabolic complications and truncal obesity in women was ≥ 32.4 cm, considering both WC and BMI. For men, the NC cut-off points were different when considering WC (≥ 39.6 cm) and BMI (≥ 38.1 cm) as a reference. It is worth noting that NC performed well in ROC curve analysis for men, while in women it was a poor performance. Conclusion: NC proved to be a promising indicator in the assessment of nutrition and health of people living with HIV, especially in men.

Resumen Introducción: estudios recientes han sugerido el uso de la circunferencia del cuello como parámetro capaz de identificar los riesgos de complicaciones cardiometabólicas y la acumulación de grasa troncal causados tanto por la terapia antirretroviral como por el estilo de vida de las personas con el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH). Objetivo: investigar la relación entre la circunferencia del cuello y los indicadores antropométricos y evaluar el riesgo cardiometabólico y la obesidad troncal a través de los puntos de corte propuestos. Métodos: estudio transversal que incluyó a 233 personas con VIH. Se recogieron datos demográficos, socioeconómicos, de estilo de vida y clínicos mediante un cuestionario estructurado. La evaluación antropométrica incluyó: medidas de peso, altura, índice de masa corporal (IMC); circunferencias de cintura (CC), cuello (CN), brazo (CA) y músculo del brazo (MCB); pliegues cutáneos del tríceps y subescapular y su suma. Se construyeron curvas ROC para determinar la precisión de la CN en la predicción del riesgo cardiometabólico en personas que viven con el VIH. Resultados: el 57,5 % de la muestra eran varones, con una edad media de 38,4 años (IC 95 %: 37,2-39,7 años). La CN mostró una correlación positiva y significativa (p < 0,05) con todas las variables antropométricas analizadas, y una mayor fuerza de correlación con la CC y el IMC. El punto de corte de la CN seleccionado como predictor de riesgo de complicaciones metabólicas cardiacas y obesidad troncular en mujeres fue ≥ 32,4 cm, considerando tanto la CC como el IMC. En el caso de los hombres, los puntos de corte de la CN fueron diferentes al considerar como referencia la CC (≥ 39,6 cm) y el IMC (≥ 38,1 cm). Cabe destacar que la CN obtuvo buenos resultados en el análisis de la curva ROC en el caso de los hombres, mientras que en el de las mujeres fue deficiente. Conclusión: la CN demostró ser un indicador prometedor en la evaluación de la nutrición y la salud de las personas que viven con el VIH, especialmente en los hombres.

ABSTRACT Cutaneous leishmaniasis, caused by protozoa of the genus Leishmania, presents diverse clinical manifestations, and current therapeutic options have limitations, including long treatment periods, potential hospitalization, and excessive pain during treatment. Methyl gallate, a phenolic compound found in plants such as Libidibia ferrea, presents promising antileishmanial activity. Combining this compound with existing leishmaniasis medications could lead to reduced dosages and the minimization of side effects. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of a microemulsion containing methyl gallate, either on its own or in combination with Glucantime®, for the experimental treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis in a 30-day in vivo assay using golden hamsters infected with Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis. The control groups included an untreated positive control and an uninfected, untreated negative control. After treatment, we evaluated clinical, parasitological, and biochemical parameters. While none of the treatments achieved clinical or parasitological cure, notable improvements were observed in the combined group, with significant reductions in snout skin lesions and parasite load when compared to the control. Biochemical parameters such as creatinine, CK-MB, GOT, and GPT remained unchanged, but urea and CPK levels significantly increased in all the experimental groups relative to the control. In conclusion, the integration of a topical methyl gallate microemulsion with intralesional Glucantime® showed potential as an effective treatment for cutaneous leishmaniasis. Further investigations into optimal dosages and therapeutic schemes are warranted in order to enhance treatment outcomes.

RESUMO A leishmaniose cutânea, causada por protozoários do gênero Leishmania, apresenta diversas manifestações clínicas e as opções terapêuticas atuais têm limitações, incluindo longos períodos de tratamento, possível hospitalização e dor excessiva durante o tratamento. O galato de metila, um composto fenólico encontrado em plantas como Libidibia ferrea, mostra atividade antileishmania promissora. A combinação deste composto com os medicamentos existentes para leishmaniose pode levar a dosagens reduzidas e à minimização dos efeitos colaterais. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a eficácia de uma microemulsão contendo galato de metila, isoladamente ou em combinação com Glucantime®, no tratamento experimental da leishmaniose cutânea em um ensaio in vivo de 30 dias em hamsters sírios infectados com Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis. Os grupos de controle incluíram um controle positivo não tratado e um controle negativo não infectado e não tratado. Após o tratamento, avaliamos parâmetros clínicos, parasitológicos e bioquímicos. Embora nenhum dos tratamentos tenha alcançado cura clínica ou parasitológica, melhorias notáveis foram observadas no grupo combinado, com redução significativa nas lesões cutâneas do focinho e na carga parasitária em comparação com o controle. Parâmetros bioquímicos como creatinina, CK-MB, TGO e TGP permaneceram inalterados, os níveis de ureia e CPK aumentaram significativamente em todos os grupos experimentais em relação ao controle. Em conclusão, a integração da microemulsão tópica de galato de metila com Glucantime® intralesional mostrou potencial como um tratamento eficaz para a leishmaniose cutânea. Mais investigações sobre dosagens ideais e esquemas terapêuticos são necessárias para melhorar os resultados do tratamento.

ABSTRACT Seasonal Forests (FE) occurring in the Cerrado, are characterized by the presence of tree species with different deciduous levels on dry seasons and vary in floristic composition depending on their geographic location. The present work has as premise that the floristic-structural patterns of these forests can be remarkable, due to the environmental conditions imposed by the environments and proximity to different watersheds. We used sample data of 17 fragments of Semideciduous Seasonal Forest (FE) in the Cerrado. For each sampling site to be inventoried an area of one hectare where the circunference of all the trees were measured at 1.30cm ≥ 15cm were included. An Principal Component Analysis - PCA, including abiotic and structural variables of each forest were made. For similarity analysis we used the floristic data in an absence-presence matrix of species and a number of trees of each species data. To determine floristic patters we use the Sorensen and Bray-Curtis similarity and made a cluster with the Unweighted Average Grouping Method (UPGMA). To explore the patterns of abundance performed in the Non-Metric multidimensional Scale (nMDS). The floristic-structural patterns indicated the presence of two distinct floristic groups, a smaller group formed different areas of the Araguaia and Paraguay River watersheds, and another large group formed by areas of the Paraná basin, and other others, even basin, more dissimilar than too much. The formation of floristic groups reflects that, as analyzed communities, there are several generalist species that are not very demanding and that adapt to new conditions, occurring in non-Cerrado and Atlantic Forest seasonal forest areas, forming two diverse tests located mainly in the Araguaia basin and Paraná.

RESUMO As Florestas Estacionais Sazonalmente Secas (FESS) ocorrentes no Cerrado são caracterizadas pela presença de espécies arbóreas com diferentes níveis de caducifólia nos períodos de estação seca e variam na composição florística dependendo da sua localização geográfica. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo assumir que os padrões florístico-estruturais destas florestas podem ser marcantes, devido às condições ambientais impostas nos ambientes e proximidade com bacias hidrográficas distintas. Foram utilizados levantamentos fitossociológicos realizados em um hectare para 17 fragmentos de Floresta Estacional Semidecidual (FES), onde aferiu-se todos os indivíduos arbóreos a circunferência a altura do peito (CAP) de 1,30cm ≥ 15cm. A avaliação foi feita por meio de uma ordenação por Análise de Componente Principal incluindo variáveis abióticas e estruturais de cada floresta. Para análise de similaridade, foram utilizados dados florísticos em uma matriz de presença-ausência utilizando os dados de ocorrência das espécies identificadas em cada localidade. Para determinar as semelhanças, utilizou-se o coeficiente de similaridade de Sorensen, o índice de Bray-Curtis e o método de agrupamento das médias não ponderadas (UPGMA). Para explorar padrões de abundância, foi feito o Escalonamento Multidimensional Não Métrico (nMDS). Os padrões florísticos-estruturais apontaram a presença de dois grupos florísticos distintos, um menor grupo formando diferentes áreas das bacias hidrográficas do Rio Araguaia e Rio Paraguai, e outro grande grupo formado por áreas da bacia do Paraná, e outras desta mesma bacia, porém mais dissimilares do que as demais. A formação de grupos florísticos reflete que as comunidades analisadas possuem diversas espécies generalistas, pouco exigentes e que se adaptam bem a novas condições, com ocorrência para áreas de florestas estacionais no Cerrado e Mata Atlântica, formando duas províncias distintas situadas, sobretudo na bacia do Araguaia e Paraná.

This work describes a green synthesis, the characterization, and biological evaluation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The AgNPs suspension was synthesized using aqueous leaf extract of Eucalyptus grandis, which presented a characteristic band at 407 nm in the UV-Vis spectrum. The AgNPs presented a spherical shape and size of 9.7 ± 0.3 nm. The nanoparticles were stable over a month, indicating that E. grandis’ extract is suitable for their preparation and stabilization. The X-ray analysis showed that the crystallinity of AgNPs corresponded to the centered face phase of silver. The antibacterial and leishmanicidal activities of AgNPs were evaluated. The AgNPs presented antibacterial activity on the Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli at 53.9 µg mL-1. The leishmanicidal activity evaluation against promastigote forms of Leishmania infantum, Leishmania amazonensis, and Leishmania braziliensis showed that the biological response is dependent on the volume of AgNP suspension. It was demonstrated that L. infantum was more sensitive to the nanoparticle’s treatment than L. amazonensis and L. braziliensis. The treatment of L infantum promastigotes with 150 µL of AgNP suspension reduced parasite growth by 67.9%, a result which was similar to the treatment with 1 (66.7%) or 2 µL (70.6%) of amphotericin B used as a positive control.

Resumo O estudo teve como objetivo analisar a assistência às pessoas com transtornos mentais em conflito com a lei na perspectiva de gestores e profissionais de saúde. Trata-se de um estudo de caso, de abordagem qualitativa, realizado em janeiro de 2020, com 10 profissionais que atuavam no Hospital de Custódia e Tratamento Psiquiátrico do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte. Para coleta de dados, utilizou-se um questionário sociodemográfico e entrevista semiestruturada. O conteúdo textual decorrente das entrevistas foi submetido à análise textual lexicográfica, com auxílio do software IRAMUTEQ, e a análise dos dados foi realizada a partir de literatura pertinente. Emergiram três categorias: As mudanças nas relações de trabalho e o impacto na assistência; A organização da Rede de Cuidado; e A assistência intramuros e os entraves para desinstitucionalização. Conclui-se que a assistência às pessoas com transtornos mentais em conflito com a lei é influenciada pelas relações de trabalho; tem dificuldades relacionadas à estrutura física e à dinâmica das instituições; enfrenta entraves para garantir a desinstitucionalização, ao passo que fragmenta os vínculos e não implementa o Projeto Terapêutico Singular. Todavia, esforços têm sido empreendidos para articular a rede de cuidado de base territorial.

Abstract The study aimed to analyze the care of people with mental disorders in conflict with the law from the perspective of managers and health professionals. This is a qualitative case study conducted in January 2020 with 10 professionals working at the Psychiatric Custody and Treatment Hospital of the State of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. For data collection, a sociodemographic questionnaire and semi-structured interview were used. The textual content resulting from the interviews was submitted to lexicographic textual analysis, with the help of the IRAMUTEQ software and data analysis was performed based on pertinent literature. Three categories emerged: Changes in work relationships and impact on care; The organization of the Care Network; and Intra-wall care and barriers to deinstitutionalisation. It is concluded that the care for people with mental disorders in conflict with the law is influenced by work relationships; has difficulties related to the physical structure and dynamics of institutions; it faces obstacles to ensure deinstitutionalization while fragmenting ties and not implementing the Singular Therapeutic Project. However, efforts have been made to articulate the territorial-based care network.

Abstract The present study applies computational intelligence techniques in the development of a hybrid model composed of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) and Genetic Algorithms (GAs) (MLP-GA) to estimate and fill in the gaps in the monthly variables of evaporation, maximum temperature and relative humidity to six regions in the state of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Brazil. The results were evaluated using statistical techniques and compared with results obtained by the Multiple Linear Regression (RLM), Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and Radial Basis Function (RBF) models and also compared with the data recorded by the weather stations. The correlation coefficient (r) between the evaporation estimates generated by MLP-GA with the recorded data showed a high relationship, remaining between 0.82 to 0.97. The average percentage error (MPE) ranged from 6.01% to 9.67%, indicating a accuracy between 90% to 94%. For the maximum temperature generated by MLP-GA the correlation with the recorded data remained between 0.97 to 0.99. It also presented the MPE between 0.95% to 1.57%, maintaining the accuracy of the estimated data between 98% to 99%. The correlation coefficient (r) between the relative humidity estimates generated with the MLP-GA remained between 0.89 a 0.97, the MPE between 1.15% to 1.89%, which guaranteed a rate higher than 98% of correctness in its estimates. Such results demonstrated gains in relation to the other applied models and allowed the accomplishment of the filling of most of the missing values.

Resumo O presente estudo aplica técnicas de inteligência computacional no desenvolvimento de um modelo híbrido composto por Redes Neurais Artificiais (RNAs) e Algoritmos Genéticos (AGs) (MLP-GA) para estimar e preencher lacunas nas variáveis mensais de evaporação, temperatura máxima e umidade relativa em seis regiões do estado do Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Brasil. Os resultados foram avaliados por meio de técnicas estatísticas e comparados com os resultados obtidos pelos modelos de Regressão Linear Múltipla (RLM), Perceptron de Multicamadas (MLP) e Redes de Função de Base Radial (RBF), além de serem comparados com os dados registrados pelas estações meteorológicas. O coeficiente de correlação (r) entre as estimativas de evaporação geradas pelo MLP-GA com os dados registrados mostrou uma relação elevada, permanecendo entre 0,82 e 0,97. O erro percentual médio (MPE) variou de 6,01% a 9,67%, indicando uma precisão entre 90% e 94%. Para a temperatura máxima gerada pelo MLP-GA, a correlação com os dados registrados permaneceu entre 0,97 e 0,99. Apresentou também o MPE entre 0,95% e 1,57%, mantendo a precisão dos dados estimados entre 98% e 99%. O coeficiente de correlação (r) entre as estimativas de umidade relativa geradas pelo MLP-GA permaneceu entre 0,89 e 0,97, com MPE entre 1,15% e 1,89%, garantindo uma taxa superior a 98% de acerto em suas estimativas. Tais resultados demonstraram ganhos em relação aos outros modelos aplicados e permitiram o preenchimento da maioria dos valores ausentes.

ABSTRACT Insects are fundamental to biodiversity conservation in almost all ecosystems, and their population decline, and extinction directly result from environmental impacts. These facts are aggravated by the lack of knowledge of insect biodiversity, the so-called biodiversity deficits, especially the Linnean and Wallacean shortfalls. In freshwater ecosystems, biodiversity loss is higher among aquatic insects, and caddisflies comprise one of the most vulnerable orders. In this way, research focusing on describing new caddisfly species and understanding their distribution ranges will increase knowledge of caddisfly biodiversity. In the past 14 years, the team from the Laboratório de Entomologia Aquática “Prof. Dr. Claudio Gilberto Froehlich” (LEAq, Universidade Federal da Bahia, Brazil) and collaborators have been addressing these issues, resulting in 55 described species of caddisflies. Taxa in other insect orders have also received attention and an additional 16 species have been described (eight mayflies, four stoneflies, four neuropteran spongillaflies, and antlions). Here, eight caddisfly species are described and illustrated (Atopsyche froehlichi sp. nov., Austrotinodes zeferina sp. nov., Cernotina kariri sp. nov., Neoathripsodes froehlichi sp. nov., Notalina claudiofroehlichi sp. nov., Oecetis marcus sp. nov., Phylloicus froehlichi sp. nov., and Polycentropus claudioi sp. nov.), five of them in honor of LEAq’s patron. In addition, new distributional data are presented for 10 known species. A checklist of the caddisfly fauna of Bahia state is also presented, with 138 species, around 75% and 30% of them recorded and described by the LEAq team, respectively. Currently, for caddisflies, Bahia is the fifth most species-rich state in Brazil, and the first in the Brazilian Northeast region.

ABSTRACT Objectives: Evaluate the reliability and reproducibility of the kyphosis measurement in thoracolumbar spine traumatic fractures by different assessment methods in different types of fractures. Methods: Fifteen fractures of the thoracolumbar spine, previously classified into types A, B, and C according to Magerl’s classification, were evaluated. The value of kyphosis was measured using five different methods: (1) Cobb angle; (2) Gardner’s method; (3) back wall method; (4) angle of adjacent endplates; and (5) wedge angle. The measurements were performed by five independent observers and repeated five times with a minimum interval of two weeks between each evaluation. Results: Intraobserver reliability was excellent among the five observers, evidencing good reproducibility of the methods. The five methods used also showed great intraobserver reliability in the global analysis, with methods one and four being more consistent. Conclusion: Although there is no universal agreement on measuring kyphosis in thoracolumbar fractures, our study concluded that method 1 (Cobb angle) and method 4 (adjacent endplate angle) presented the best interobserver reliabilities. Furthermore, the use of digitized radiographs and a simple computer program allowed the performance of highly reliable and reproducible measurements by all methods, given the high intraobserver reliability. Resumen: Objetivos: Evaluar la fiabilidad y reproducibilidad de mensuración de cifosis en fracturas traumáticas de la columna toracolumbar por diferentes métodos de valoración en diferentes tipos de fracturas. Métodos: Se evaluaron quince fracturas de columna toracolumbar, previamente clasificadas en los tipos A, B y C según la clasificación de Magerl. En cada caso, el valor de la cifosis se midió utilizando cinco métodos diferentes: (1) ángulo de Cobb; (2) método de Gardner; (3) método de la pared posterior; (4) ángulo de placas de extremo adyacentes; y (5) ángulo de cuña. Las mediciones fueron realizadas por cinco evaluadores independientes y repetidas cinco veces con un intervalo mínimo de dos semanas entre cada evaluación. Resultados: La confiabilidad intraobservador fue excelente entre los cinco evaluadores, evidenciando una buena reproducibilidad de los métodos. Los cinco métodos utilizados también mostraron una gran fiabilidad intraobservador en el análisis global, siendo el método 1 y el método 4 más consistentes. Conclusión: Aunque no existe un acuerdo universal sobre cómo medir la cifosis en las fracturas toracolumbares, nuestro estudio concluyó que el método 1 (ángulo de Cobb) y el método 4 (ángulo de la placa terminal adyacente) presentaron las mejores confiabilidades entre observadores. Además, el uso de radiografías digitalizadas y un programa informático simple permitieron realizar mediciones altamente fiables y reproducibles por todos los métodos, dada la alta fiabilidad intraobservador. Resumo: Objetivos: Avaliar a confiabilidade e reprodutibilidade da mensuração da cifose nas fraturas traumáticas da coluna toracolombar por diferentes métodos de avaliação nos diferentes tipos de fraturas. Métodos: Foram avaliadas 15 fraturas na coluna toracolombar previamente classificadas em tipo A, B e C de acordo com a classificação de Magerl. Em cada caso, foi medido o valor da cifose através de cinco diferentes métodos: (1) ângulo de Cobb; (2) método de Gardner; (3) método das paredes posteriores; (4) ângulo das placas terminais adjacentes; e (5) ângulo de cunha. As mensurações foram realizadas por cinco avaliadores independentes e repetidas cinco vezes com intervalo mínimo de duas semanas entre cada avaliação. Resultados: A confiabilidade intraobservador mostrou-se excelente entre os cinco avaliadores, evidenciando boa reprodutibilidade dos métodos. Os cinco métodos utilizados também apresentaram grande confiabilidade intraobservador na análise global, sendo mais consistentes o método 1 e o método 4. Conclusão: Apesar de não haver concordância universal em como medir a cifose nas fraturas toracolombares, nosso estudo concluiu que o método 1 (ângulo de Cobb) e o método 4 (ângulo das placas terminais adjacentes) apresentaram as melhores confiabilidades interobservadores. Além disso, o uso de radiografias digitalizadas e um programa computadorizado simples permitiram a realização de medidas altamente confiáveis e reprodutíveis por todos os métodos, visto pela elevada confiabilidade intraobservador. ABSTRACT The Caatinga biome in Brazil comprises the largest and most continuous expanse of the seasonally dry tropical forest (SDTF) worldwide; nevertheless, it is among the most threatened and least studied, despite its ecological and biogeographical importance. The spatial distribution of volumetric wood stocks in the Caatinga and the relationship with environmental factors remain unknown. Therefore, this study intends to quantify and analyze the spatial distribution of wood volume as a function of environmental variables in Caatinga vegetation in Bahia State, Brazil. Volumetric estimates were obtained at the plot and fragment level. The multiple linear regression techniques were adopted, using environmental variables in the area as predictors. Spatial modeling was performed using the geostatistical kriging approach with the model residuals. The model developed presented a reasonable fit for the volume m3 ha with r2 of 0.54 and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 10.9 m3 ha–1. The kriging of ordinary residuals suggested low error estimates in unsampled locations and balance in the under and overestimates of the model. The regression kriging approach provided greater detailing of the global wood volume stock map, yielding volume estimates that ranged from 0.01 to 109 m3 ha–1. Elevation, mean annual temperature, and precipitation of the driest month are strong environmental predictors for volume estimation. This information is necessary to development action plans for sustainable management and use of the Caatinga SDTF in Bahia State, Brazil.

Abstract The study aimed to analyze the care of people with mental disorders in conflict with the law from the perspective of managers and health professionals. This is a qualitative case study conducted in January 2020 with 10 professionals working at the Psychiatric Custody and Treatment Hospital of the State of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. For data collection, a sociodemographic questionnaire and semi-structured interview were used. The textual content resulting from the interviews was submitted to lexicographic textual analysis, with the help of the IRAMUTEQ software and data analysis was performed based on pertinent literature. Three categories emerged: Changes in work relationships and impact on care; The organization of the Care Network; and Intra-wall care and barriers to deinstitutionalisation. It is concluded that the care for people with mental disorders in conflict with the law is influenced by work relationships; has difficulties related to the physical structure and dynamics of institutions; it faces obstacles to ensure deinstitutionalization while fragmenting ties and not implementing the Singular Therapeutic Project. However, efforts have been made to articulate the territorial-based care network.

Resumo O estudo teve como objetivo analisar a assistência às pessoas com transtornos mentais em conflito com a lei na perspectiva de gestores e profissionais de saúde. Trata-se de um estudo de caso, de abordagem qualitativa, realizado em janeiro de 2020, com 10 profissionais que atuavam no Hospital de Custódia e Tratamento Psiquiátrico do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte. Para coleta de dados, utilizou-se um questionário sociodemográfico e entrevista semiestruturada. O conteúdo textual decorrente das entrevistas foi submetido à análise textual lexicográfica, com auxílio do software IRAMUTEQ, e a análise dos dados foi realizada a partir de literatura pertinente. Emergiram três categorias: As mudanças nas relações de trabalho e o impacto na assistência; A organização da Rede de Cuidado; e A assistência intramuros e os entraves para desinstitucionalização. Conclui-se que a assistência às pessoas com transtornos mentais em conflito com a lei é influenciada pelas relações de trabalho; tem dificuldades relacionadas à estrutura física e à dinâmica das instituições; enfrenta entraves para garantir a desinstitucionalização, ao passo que fragmenta os vínculos e não implementa o Projeto Terapêutico Singular. Todavia, esforços têm sido empreendidos para articular a rede de cuidado de base territorial.

ABSTRACT Amazonian soils have been suffering severe changes resulting from human activities in the region, causing significant changes in soil attributes that can contribute to greater susceptibility to erosion processes. Therefore, the present work aimed to estimate the erodibility in natural and anthropic environments in the southern region of the Amazon. Eight areas in the region were selected, including areas of native forest, savannah, cerradão, pasture and reforestation, delimiting 32 sampling points per area, with collections at a depth of 0.00-0.20 m, totaling 256 samples. Next, texture analysis and quantification of soil organic carbon were performed, and then erodibility was estimated by indirect prediction methods, Tukey’s test, Pearson’s correlation and factorial analysis of principal components. According to the results obtained, it was observed that the evaluated areas of native forest 1 and 2, cerradão and pasture present high susceptibility to erosion in relation to the cerrado, reforestation with genipap, teak and mixed areas. Therefore, it was noted that the high level of erodibility is associated with a greater predominance of sand fraction, K factor, Ki Kr and low clay content, as well as with the management employed in the areas.

This investigation describes the synthesis of eugenol analogs presenting 1,2,3-triazole fragments and evaluation of their antileishmanial activity. The alkylation of guaiacol (1) with allyl bromide afforded 1-(allyloxy)-2-methoxybenzene (2) (93% yield). The Claisen rearrangement conducted with 1 gave ortho eugenol (3) (82% yield). Alkylation procedures performed with 3 produced 1-allyl-3-methoxy-2-(prop-2-yn-1-yloxy)benzene (4) (73% yield) and 1-allyl-3-methoxy-2-(pent-4-yn-1-yloxy)benzene (6) (53% yield). The copper(I)-catalyzed alkyne-azide cycloaddition (CuAAC) reactions involving alkynes 4 and 6 with different benzylic azides afforded twenty-two eugenol analogs with 1,2,3-triazole functionalities (48-93% yield). We screened the compounds at 10 μmol L 1 against Leishmania braziliensis intracellular amastigotes during macrophage infection. The action of these compounds was compared with the known leishmanicidal drug amphotericin B. None of the analogs were toxic to macrophages at 10 μmol L-1. The cytotoxic concentration at 50% (CC50), effective concentration at 50% (EC50), and selectivity index (SI) were determined to the best compounds 4-((2-allyl-6-methoxy)phenoxymethyl)-1-(4-chlorobenzyl)-1 H-1,2,3-triazole (8c) and 4-((2-allyl-6-methoxy)phenoxymethyl)-1-(4-trifluoromethoxybenzyl)-1 H-1,2,3-triazole (8h). They showed a significant leishmanicidal effect, with EC50 of 28.09 µmol L-1 (8c) and 52.03 µmol L-1 (8h). The SIs were 9.7 for 8c and > 5.7 for 8h. These compounds have the potential as new leishmanicidal agents against L. braziliensis and may represent a starting point for the development of alternative treatments for cutaneous leishmaniasis.

ABSTRACT There is a need for greater knowledge about the medium- and long-term effects of prescribed fire management on soil in ecosystems prone to wildfires and more vulnerable to climate change. This study examined the short- and medium-term effects of prescribed fire on soil chemical properties and chemical fractions of soil organic matter (SOM) in two positions of the landscape in a high-elevation grassland environment. The ecosystem is located in the mountain peaks of southeastern Brazil associated with the Atlantic Forest biome. Prescribed fire was conducted in 2017 to reduce understory vegetation and thus prevent potential severe wildfires. Soil samples were collected at the layers of 0.00-0.10, 0.10-0.20, and 0.20-0.40 m, at eight composite sampling. The composite samples were collected on five different occasions: before the prescribed fire, and 10, 30, 90, and 240 days after the prescribed fire. Soil chemical properties, total organic carbon, labile C, and chemical fractionation of SOM were analyzed. All soil properties investigated were affected by the prescribed fire, with variations in landscape position, duration of effect, and soil layer. In the backslope area, the medium-term effect of fire was negative and induced soil degradation and induced soil degradation. In the footslope area, the system showed greater resilience to the effects of fire, as indicated by the recovery of the soil’s chemical properties. These results can help assess the suitability of controlled burning of vegetation for managing risks of fire in mountainous regions, such as high-elevation grasslands.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the performance of residents in gynecology and obstetrics before and after practicing laparoscopic sutures, to establish when the training shows the best results, in addition to comparing whether being in different years of residency influences this progression. Methods A prospective cohort study involving 32 medical residents evaluated with a pretest to establish their previous knowledge in laparoscopic suture. This test consisted of knotting two wires, one made of polypropylene and the other of polyglactin, with a blocking sequence of five semi-knots. We set a 30-minute limit to complete the task. Then, the residents held four training meetings, focusing on suture, Gladiator rule, knot, and symmetries, in addition to executing blocking sequences. A second test to establish progress was performed. Results Regarding the time spent to make the stiches using polyglactin wire, a statistically significant time improvement (p< 0.01) was observed, with a 10.67-minute pretraining median (mean 12.24 minutes) and a 2.53-minute posttraining median (mean 3.25 minutes). Regarding the stitches with polypropylene wire, a statistically significant time improvement (p< 0.05) was also observed, with a 9.38-minute pretraining median (mean 15.43 minutes) and a 3.65-minute posttraining median (mean 4.54 minutes). A total of 64.2% of the residents had been able to make the knot with polypropylene previously. One hundred percent were able to complete the task in the posttest. Conclusion Model training using the Gladiator rule for laparoscopic suture improves the knotting time with statistically similar performance, regardless of the year of residency, after systematic training.

Resumo Objetivo Avaliar a performance de residentes em ginecologia e obstetrícia antes e depois de praticarem suturas laparoscópicas, com o intuito de estabelecer quando o treinamento mostra os melhores resultados, comparando se estar em diferentes da residência influencia essa progressão. Métodos Um estudo coorte prospectivo envolvendo 32 médicos residentes avaliados com um teste pré-treinamento para avaliar seus conhecimentos prévios em sutura laparoscópica. Esse teste consistia em atar nós em dois fios, um de polipropileno e o outro de poliglactina, com uma sequencia de bloqueio de cinco seminós. Definiu-se um limite de 30 minutos para se completar a tarefa. Depois, os residentes tiveram quatro reuniões de treinamento, focadas em sutura, técnica da Regra do Gladiador, nós e simetria, executando, ainda, uma sequência de pontos. Um segundo teste foi feito para avaliar o progresso. Resultados Com relação ao tempo para realizarem os pontos com fio de poliglactina, uma melhora de tempo estatisticamente significativa (p< 0.01) foi observada, com uma mediana de 10.67 minutos no pré-treinamento (média de 12.24 minutos) e uma mediana de 2.53 minutos no pós-treinamento (média de 3.25 minutos). Com relação ao fio de polipropileno, uma melhora de tempo estatisticamente significativa (p< 0.05) também foi observada, com uma mediana de pré-treinamento de 9.38 minutos (média de 15.43 minutos) e uma mediana de pós-treinamento de 3.65 minutos (média de 4.54 minutos). Um total de 64.2% dos residentes foram capazes de realizar os nós com polipropileno inicialmente. Cem por cento do residentes foram capazes de completar a tarefa no pós-teste. Conclusão O modelo de treino usando a técnica da Regra do Gladiador para sutura laparoscópica melhora o tempo de atar nós com uma performance estatisticamente similar, não havendo diferenças quanto ao ano da residência, após treinamento sistematizado.
