ABSTRACT The tropical forest is extremely exploited and fragmented, making it essential to collect native seeds to meet the growing demand for its restoration and maintenance of biodiversity. Thus, the objective is to select potential forest fragments with a higher degree of conservation for seed harvesting, through the use and association of landscape ecology with fuzzy logic. The study was carried out in the watershed of the Itapemirim river. The stages of selection and photointerpretation of the images were carried out; error determination; application of landscape ecology metric indices; application of fuzzy logic in a computational application and validation of the methodology in loco. 7,515 forest fragments were determined, corresponding to 19.21% of the study area, with 89.53% of hits. Fragments smaller than 5 ha are the most fragile and are at risk of extinction, while those larger than 300 ha have a lower risk of extinction, even with the increase in the edge. With the application of fuzzy logic, the mean was between 0.15, standard deviation of 0.24 and the coefficient of variation at 161.73%. Scenario 1 (FLONA of Pacotuba), has 10.25% of families, 25.92% of genera and 33.62% of species more than Scenario 2 (PEAMA Ifes Campus of Alegre), among the identified individuals. The association of landscape ecology techniques and fuzzy logic made it possible to identify fragments with a higher degree of conservation, with potential for harvesting forest seeds.

RESUMO A floresta tropical é extremamente explorada e fragmentada, sendo imprescindível a coleta de sementes nativas, a fim de atender a crescente demanda para sua restauração e manutenção da biodiversidade. Dessa forma, objetiva-se selecionar fragmentos florestais potenciais com maior grau de conservação para a colheita de sementes, via utilização e associação da ecologia da paisagem à lógica Fuzzy. O estudo foi realizado na bacia hidrográfica do rio Itapemirim. Foram realizadas as etapas de seleção e fotointerpretação das imagens; determinação do erro; aplicação dos índices métricos de ecologia da paisagem; aplicação da lógica Fuzzy em aplicativo computacional e validação da metodologia in loco. Foram determinados 7.515 fragmentos florestais, correspondendo a 19,21% da área de estudo, com 89,53% de acertos. Os fragmentos menores que 5 ha são os mais frágeis e possuem risco de extinção, enquanto os maiores que 300 ha possuem menor risco de extinção, mesmo com o aumento da borda. Com a aplicação da lógica Fuzzy, a média ficou entre 0,15, desvio padrão de 0,24 e o coeficiente de variação em 161,73 %. O Cenário 1 (FLONA de Pacotuba) possui 10,25% de famílias, 25,92 % de gêneros e 33,62% de espécies a mais que o Cenário 2 (PEAMA Ifes Campus de Alegre), entre os indivíduos identificados. A associação das técnicas de ecologia da paisagem e lógica Fuzzy possibilitou identificar os fragmentos em maior grau de conservação, com potencial para colheita de sementes florestais.

BACKGROUND Chikungunya is a mosquito-borne virus that has been causing large outbreaks in the Americas since 2014. In Brazil, Asian-Caribbean (AC) and East-Central-South-African (ECSA) genotypes have been detected and lead to large outbreaks in several Brazilian states. In Rio Grande do Sul (RS), the southernmost state of Brazil, the first cases were reported in 2016. OBJECTIVES AND METHODS We employed genome sequencing and epidemiological investigation to characterise the Chikungunya fever (CHIKF) burden in RS between 2017-2021. FINDINGS We detected an increasing CHIKF burden linked to travel associated introductions and communitary transmission of distinct lineages of the ECSA genotype during this period. MAIN CONCLUSIONS Until 2020, CHIKV introductions were most travel associated and transmission was limited. Then, in 2021, the largest outbreak occurred in the state associated with the introduction of a new ECSA lineage. CHIKV outbreaks are likely to occur in the near future due to abundant competent vectors and a susceptible population, exposing more than 11 million inhabitants to an increasing infection risk.

RESUMO Selecionar novos genótipos de batata-doce, que sejam adaptados às condições edafoclimáticas e de cultivo das regiões produtoras, se faz necessário. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho agronômico de genótipos experimentais de batata-doce de polpa branca em lavouras comerciais, buscando obter indicação do seu mérito como cultivares comerciais. Os experimentos foram conduzidos nos munícipios de Presidente Prudente-SP, Emilianópolis-SP, Tarabai-SP e Álvares Machado-SP. Foi adotado o delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, com cinco repetições, avaliando-se os genótipos UZBD-L1-04 e UZBD-L5-29, e utilizando as testemunhas Ligeirinha Paulista, Canadense e INIA Arapey. Foram avaliados a produtividade total de raízes tuberosas, número de raízes tuberosas comerciais, produção de raízes tuberosas comerciais, massa média de raízes tuberosas comerciais, porcentagem de massa seca de raízes tuberosas comerciais, sólidos solúveis, resistência a danos causados por pragas, comprimento, diâmetro e aparência das raízes. Concluiu-se que o genótipo UZBD-L1-04 obteve desempenho superior aos demais (média dos ambientes para produtividade total de raízes tuberosas de 31,76 t/ha), e possuindo potencial como cultivar para a região.

ABSTRACT Selecting new sweet potato genotypes that are adapted to the soil, climate, and cultivation conditions of the producing regions is necessary. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomic performance of experimental genotypes of white-fleshed sweet potato in commercial fields, seeking to evaluate their potential as commercial cultivars. The experiments were carried out in the municipalities of Presidente Prudente, Emilianópolis, Tarabai, and Álvares Machado in São Paulo state. The randomized complete block design with five repetitions was used in the experiments, where the genotypes UZBD-L1-04 and UZBD-L5-29 were evaluated along with the controls Ligeirinha Paulista, Canadense, and INIA Arapey. The assessed traits were tuberous root total yield, number of commercial tuberous roots, commercial tuberous root yield, average mass of commercial tuberous roots, percentage of commercial tuberous root dry mass, soluble solids, resistance to pest-caused damage, root length, diameter, and appearance. UZBD-L1-04 performed better than the other genotypes (the average of environments for tuberous root total yield was 31.76 t/ha), showing great potential as a commercial cultivar for the studied region.

RESUMO Objetivos: Há diversas terapias sendo utilizadas ou propostas para a COVID-19, muitas carecendo de apropriada avaliação de efetividade e segurança. O propósito deste documento é elaborar recomendações para subsidiar decisões sobre o tratamento farmacológico de pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19 no Brasil. Métodos: Um grupo de 27 membros, formado por especialistas, representantes do Ministério da Saúde e metodologistas, integra essa diretriz. Foi utilizado o método de elaboração de diretrizes rápidas, tomando por base a adoção e/ou a adaptação de recomendações a partir de diretrizes internacionais existentes (GRADE ADOLOPMENT), apoiadas pela plataforma e-COVID-19 RecMap. A qualidade das evidências e a elaboração das recomendações seguiram o método GRADE. Resultados: Foram geradas 16 recomendações. Entre elas, estão recomendações fortes para o uso de corticosteroides em pacientes em uso de oxigênio suplementar, para o uso de anticoagulantes em doses de profilaxia para tromboembolismo e para não uso de antibacterianos nos pacientes sem suspeita de infecção bacteriana. Não foi possível fazer uma recomendação quanto à utilização do tocilizumabe em pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19 em uso de oxigênio, pelas incertezas na disponibilidade e de acesso ao medicamento. Foi feita recomendação para não usar azitromicina, casirivimabe + imdevimabe, cloroquina, colchicina, hidroxicloroquina, ivermectina, lopinavir/ ritonavir, plasma convalescente e rendesivir. Conclusão: Até o momento, poucas terapias se provaram efetivas no tratamento do paciente hospitalizado com COVID-19, sendo recomendados apenas corticosteroides e profilaxia para tromboembolismo. Diversos medicamentos foram considerados ineficazes, devendo ser descartados, de forma a oferecer o melhor tratamento pelos princípios da medicina baseada em evidências e promover economia de recursos não eficazes.

ABSTRACT Objective: Several therapies are being used or proposed for COVID-19, and many lack appropriate evaluations of their effectiveness and safety. The purpose of this document is to develop recommendations to support decisions regarding the pharmacological treatment of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Brazil. Methods: A group of 27 experts, including representatives of the Ministry of Health and methodologists, created this guideline. The method used for the rapid development of guidelines was based on the adoption and/or adaptation of existing international guidelines (GRADE ADOLOPMENT) and supported by the e-COVID-19 RecMap platform. The quality of the evidence and the preparation of the recommendations followed the GRADE method. Results: Sixteen recommendations were generated. They include strong recommendations for the use of corticosteroids in patients using supplemental oxygen, the use of anticoagulants at prophylactic doses to prevent thromboembolism and the nonuse of antibiotics in patients without suspected bacterial infection. It was not possible to make a recommendation regarding the use of tocilizumab in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 using oxygen due to uncertainties regarding the availability of and access to the drug. Strong recommendations against the use of hydroxychloroquine, convalescent plasma, colchicine, lopinavir + ritonavir and antibiotics in patients without suspected bacterial infection and also conditional recommendations against the use of casirivimab + imdevimab, ivermectin and rendesivir were made. Conclusion: To date, few therapies have proven effective in the treatment of hospitalized patients with COVID-19, and only corticosteroids and prophylaxis for thromboembolism are recommended. Several drugs were considered ineffective and should not be used to provide the best treatment according to the principles of evidence-based medicine and promote economical resource use.

ABSTRACT Background: An outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Omicron variant was detected in the psychiatric ward of a general hospital in Brasília, Brazil. Methods: We report the investigation, clinical outcomes, viral sequencing, and control measures applied to outbreak containment. Results: The overall attack rate was 95% (23/24) in a period of 13 days. Among the cases, 78% (18/23) were vaccinated and 17% (4/23) required intensive care. The Omicron variant was isolated from the 19 sequenced samples. Conclusions: The findings highlight the potential harm that highly transmissible variants may generate among hospitalized populations, particularly those with comorbidities.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: We aimed to describe the clinical characteristics of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among healthcare workers (HCWs) in Curitiba, Brazil. METHODS: Upper respiratory samples from 1077 HCWs were tested for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction from June 16, 2020 to December 9, 2020. RESULTS: Overall, 32.7% of HCWs were infected. The positivity rates in symptomatic and asymptomatic HCWs were 39.2% and 15.9%, respectively. Hospital departments categorized as high-risk for exposure had the highest number of infected HCWs. CONCLUSIONS: Early diagnosis and isolation of infected HCWs remain key in controlling SARS-CoV-2 transmission because HCWs in close contact with COVID-19 patients are more likely to be infected than those who are not.

Abstract Aim: To investigate the existence of relative age effect (RAE) in Brazilian water polo athletes according to sex and age category. Methods: The birthdate of 574 Brazilian water polo athletes were organized according to the athletes’ birthdates into quarters of the year (Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4), and classified according to sex (male and female) and age category (U16, U18, U20, and senior). To verify the existence of RAE, the Chi-Square tests (χ2) were performed, and the effect sizes (ω) were calculated for each of the tests. We also calculated odds ratio (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals, setting the level of significance to 0.05. As post hoc analysis, multiple comparisons between quarters were performed, with Bonferroni's correction (significance level set to 0.0083 in these cases). Results: The results indicated an uneven distribution of birthdates for male water polo athletes (χ2 = 12.257; p = 0.007; ω = 0.173), with an overrepresentation of athletes born in the first (p < 0.006) and second (p < 0.002) quarters. When sex and age category were considered, male athletes presented uneven distributions in U20 (χ2 = 10.747; p = 0.013; ω = 0.345) and senior (χ2= 12.614; p = 0.006; ω = 0.383) categories. In females, no differences were found. Conclusion: We conclude that there is an uneven distribution of birthdates in male Brazilian water polo athletes, indicating the presence of RAE in this group.

RESUMO Esta pesquisa de característica documental buscou mapear a produção de conhecimento sobre ginástica no período de 1980 a 2020 em teses e dissertações dos programas de pós-graduação stricto sensu em educação física no Brasil e identificar os professores orientadores e Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES) com maior representatividade no tema. Ao todo foram identificadas 20 teses e 109 dissertações. A UNICAMP é a IES responsável por 31% das produções e entre os professores destacam-se Nunomura, M., Nista-Piccolo, V. L. e Souza, E. P. M. A ginástica artística, ginástica rítmica e ginástica para todos são predominantes e perspectivadas, sobretudo, nas áreas sociocultural e pedagógica. Este panorama destaca que outras modalidades e áreas ainda são carentes de estudo.

ABSTRACT This documental study aimed to characterize the knowledge production about gymnastics over the period 1980 to 2020 in theses and dissertations of stricto sensu postgraduate programs in physical education in Brazil and to identify the advisors and Higher Education Institutions (HEI) with greater representation in gymnastics through their productions. In total, 20 theses and 109 dissertations were identified. UNICAMP is the HEI responsible for 31% of the productions and among the professors stand out Nunomura, M., Nista-Piccolo, V.L. and Souza, E.P.M. Artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, and gymnastics for all are predominant and prospected, mainly in the sociocultural and pedagogical areas. This panorama shows that other modalities and areas still need to be studied.

RESUMEN Este estudio documental tuvo como objetivo caracterizar la producción de conocimiento sobre gimnasia en el período 1980 a 2020 en tesis y disertaciones de posgrados stricto sensu en educación física en Brasil e identificar a los profesores asesores e Instituciones de Educación Superior (IES) con mayor representación en gimnasia mediante sus producciones. Se identificaron 20 tesis y 109 disertaciones. UNICAMP es la IES responsable por 31% de las producciones y entre los professores asesores destacan Nunomura, M., Nista-Piccolo, V.L. y Souza, E.P.M. La gimnasia artística, la gimnasia rítmica y la gimnasia para todos son predominantes y considerados, sobre todo, en los ámbitos socioculturales y pedagógicos. Este panorama destaca que aún quedan por estudiar otras modalidades y áreas.

Abstract Maintenance of snakes at Butantan Institute started in the last century, intending to produce a different antivenom serum to reduce death caused by snakebites. Through a successful campaign coordinated by Vital Brazil, farmers sent venomous snakes to Butantan Institute by the railway lines with no cost. From 1908 to 1962, the snakes were kept in an outdoor serpentarium, where venom extraction was performed every 15 days. During this period, the snake average survival was 15 days. In 1963, the snakes were transferred to an adapted building, currently called Laboratory of Herpetology (LH), to be maintained in an intensive system. Although the periodicity of venom extraction remained the same, animal average survival increased to two months. With the severe serum crisis in 1983, the Ministry of Health financed remodeling for the three public antivenom producers, and with this support, the LH could be improved. Air conditioning and exhausting systems were installed in the rooms, besides the settlement of critical hygienic-sanitary managements to increase the welfare of snakes. In the early 1990s, snake survival was ten months. Over the years to the present day, several improvements have been made in the intensive serpentarium, as the establishment of two quarantines, feeding with thawed rodents, an interval of two months between venom extraction routines, and monitoring of snake health through laboratory tests. With these new protocols, average snake survival increased significantly, being eight years for the genus Bothrops, ten years for genus Crotalus and Lachesis, and four years for the genus Micrurus. Aiming the production of venoms of good quality, respect for good management practices is essential for the maintenance of snakes in captivity. New techniques and efficient management must always be sought to improve animal welfare, the quality of the venom produced, and the safety of those working directly with the venomous snakes.

ABSTRACT. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) supplementation in diets with different energy levels in broiler performance. Birds were offered a starter (1-21 d), grower (22-35 d) and finisher (36-42 d) diets; wherein soybean oil was replaced by CLA. The study consisted of a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement with two CLA levels (0 and 1%) and three energy levels (3050, 3100 and 3150 ME kg-1 diet). During the grower and finisher periods, birds were fed diets with same energy level and CLA supplementation was maintained the same. Growth performance was assessed weekly, and carcass and cuts yield were assessed at 42d. Interaction effect of CLA by energy level was observed in broiler performance and carcass yield throughout the study (p > 0.05). During the overall period (1-42 d) broiler performance was not affected by CLA (p > 0.05).However, CLA supplementation (1%) decreased weight gain (p < 0.05) at 21d, regardless of energy level, with no effects on feed intake and feed conversation rate (p > 0.05). The increase in dietary energy was not able to compensate the negative effect on growth performance of broilers supplemented with 1% CLA at the starter period.

RESUMO Objetivo: Verificar os preditores associados ao afastamento da atividade laboral a partir de 15 dias motivados por doença entre profissionais de enfermagem de um serviço hospitalar de emergência. Método: Estudo transversal, retrospectivo, descritivo-analítico. A amostra constitui-se dos registros de ausência (n=2.403) por doenças dos trabalhares de enfermagem (n=197) lotados em serviço hospitalar de emergência do sul do Brasil, no período de 2013 a 2018. Empregou-se análise estatística descritiva e modelo de regressão multivariável. Resultados: Houve predominância do sexo feminino (72,6%), brancos (86,3%), com média de idade de 45,05 (DP=9,77) anos e técnicos de enfermagem (74,6%). A causa prevalente de afastamento foi relacionada às doenças clínicas (62,5%). Os preditores associados ao afastamento a partir de 15 dias foram: Idade (OR: 0,97; IC95%= 0,95-0,99) e doenças osteomusculares (OR: 8,95; IC95%= 5,30-15,11). Conclusão: Idade e doenças osteomusculares foram preditores de afastamento a partir de 15 dias das atividades laborais da equipe de enfermagem.

ABSTRACT Objective: To verify the predictors associated with sick leave from 15 days onwards among Nursing professionals of an emergency hospital service. Method: A cross-sectional, retrospective, and descriptive-analytical study. The sample consists of the records of sick leave (n=2,403) due to diseases of the Nursing professionals (n=197) working in an emergency hospital service in southern Brazil, from 2013 to 2018. Descriptive and statistical analysis was used, as well as the multivariate regression model. Results: There was predominance of females (72.6%), white-skinned (86.3%), with a mean age of 45.05 (SD=9.77) years old, and nursing technicians (74.6%). The prevalent cause of sick leave was related to clinical diseases (62.5%). The predictors associated with sick leave from 15 days onwards were the following: Age (OR: 0.97; 95% CI=0.95-0.99) and Musculoskeletal Diseases (OR: 8.95; 95% CI=5.30-15.11). Conclusion: Age and musculoskeletal diseases were predictors of sick leave from 15 days onwards of the Nursing team.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Verificar los predictores asociados con licencias por enfermedad a partir de 15 días entre los profesionales de Enfermería de un servicio hospitalario de emergencia. Método: Estudio transversal, retrospectivo y descriptivo-analítico. La muestra consta de los registros de licencias (n=2.403) debido a enfermedades de los profesionales de Enfermería (n=197) que trabajan en un servicio hospitalario de emergencia en el sur de Brasil, entre 2013 y 2018. Se utilizó análisis descriptivo y estadístico y el modelo de regresión multivariado. Resultados: Predominaron personas del sexo femenino (72,6%), de raza blanca (86,3%), con una media de edad de 45,05 (DE=9,77) años y técnicos de Enfermería (74,6%). La causa más frecuente de licencia se relacionó con enfermedades clínicas (62,5%). Los predictores asociados con las licencias por enfermedad a partir de 15 días fueron los siguientes: edad (OR: 0,97; IC del 95%=0,95-0,99) y enfermedades musculoesqueléticas (OR: 8,95; IC del 95%=5,30-15) 11). Conclusión: La edad y las enfermedades musculoesqueléticas fueron predictores de licencias por enfermedad a partir de 15 días de las actividades laborales del equipo de Enfermería.

Resumo Objetivo: Analisar a qualidade de vida dos pacientes antes e após cirurgia de remoção da catarata associada ao implante de lente intraocular (LIO). Metodos: Este é um estudo observacional, prospectivo, de série de casos. Os dados foram coletados em um serviço privado de oftalmologia em Aracaju - SE, de agosto de 2018 a julho de 2019. A avaliação da qualidade de vida de pacientes antes e após 4 meses da cirurgia de catarata, pela técnica de facoemulsificação associada ao implante de LIO, foi realizada aplicando a versão brasileira validada do Questionário de Função Visual de 25 itens do National Eye Institute (NEI-VFQ-25) e realização do teste de acuidade visual com a tabela de Snellen. Resultados: O grupo final foi constituído por 41 pacientes, com média de idade de 72 anos (DP: 9,01), sendo 14 do sexo masculino e 27 do feminino. Além disso, dos 41 pacientes, 37 foram submetidos à facectomia em ambos os olhos, 03 apenas no olho direito e 01 apenas no olho esquerdo. Diante da coleta e da análise dos dados, notou-se melhora na qualidade de vida dos pacientes submetidos ao procedimento cirúrgico proposto. Houve um aumento estatisticamente significativo (p<0,001) na acuidade visual binocular, na acuidade visual monocular e nas pontuações de 11 dos 12 subdomínios do NEI-VFQ-25. Não foi observada significância estatística no subdomínio "Dor ocular" (p=0,934). Conclusão: Houve melhora significativa na qualidade de vida dos pacientes submetidos à cirurgia de catarata com implante de LIO.

Abstract Objective: To analyze patients' quality of life before and after cataract removal surgery associated with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Methods: This is an observational, prospective, case series study. Data were collected at a private ophthalmology service in Aracaju – SE, from August 2018 to July 2019. The quality of life assessment of patients before and after 4 months of cataract surgery, using the phacoemulsification technique associated with IOL implantation, was performed by applying the validated Brazilian version of the 25-item Visual Function Questionnaire from the National Eye Institute (NEI-VFQ-25) and performing the visual acuity test with the Snellen chart. Results: The final group consisted of 41 patients, with a mean age of 72 years (SD: 9.01), of which 14 were male and 27 female. In addition, out of 41 patients, 37 underwent facectomy in both eyes, 03 only in the right eye and 01 only in the left eye. Given the collection and thorough analysis of the data, the improvement in the quality of life of patients submitted to cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation was noticed. There was a statistically significant increase (p<0.001) in binocular visual acuity, monocular visual acuity and scores in 11 of the 12 subdomains of the NEI-VFQ-25. No statistical significance was observed in the subdomain “Eye Pain” (p=0.934). Conclusion: There was a significant improvement in the quality of life of patients who underwent cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation.

Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a global public health emergency with lethality ranging from 1% to 5%. This study aimed to identify active high-risk transmission clusters of COVID-19 in Sergipe. Methods: We performed a prospective space-time analysis using confirmed cases of COVID-19 during the first 7 weeks of the outbreak in Sergipe. Results: The prospective space-time statistic detected "active" and emerging spatio-temporal clusters comprising six municipalities in the south-central region of the state. Conclusions: The Geographic Information System (GIS) associated with spatio-temporal scan statistics can provide timely support for surveillance and assist in decision-making.
