Abstract Objective To evaluate the impact of the race (Black versus non-Black) on maternal and perinatal outcomes of pregnant women with COVID-19 in Brazil. Methods This is a subanalysis of REBRACO, a Brazilian multicenter cohort study designed to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on pregnant women. From February2020 until February 2021, 15 maternity hospitals in Brazil collected data on women with respiratory symptoms. We selected all women with a positive test for COVID-19; then, we divided them into two groups: Black and non-Black women. Finally, we compared, between groups, sociodemographic, maternal, and perinatal outcomes. We obtained the frequency of events in each group and compared them using X2 test; p-values < 0.05 were considered significant. We also estimated the odds ratio (OR) and confidence intervals (CI). Results 729 symptomatic women were included in the study; of those, 285 were positive for COVID-19, 120 (42.1%) were Black, and 165 (57.9%) were non-Black. Black women had worse education (p = 0.037). The timing of access to the health system was similar between both groups, with 26.3% being included with seven or more days of symptoms. Severe acute respiratory syndrome (OR 2.22 CI 1.17–4.21), intensive care unit admission (OR 2.00 CI 1.07–3.74), and desaturation at admission (OR 3.72 CI 1.41–9.84) were more likely to occur among Black women. Maternal death was higher among Black women (7.8% vs. 2.6%, p = 0.048). Perinatal outcomes were similar between both groups. Conclusion Brazilian Black women were more likely to die due to the consequences of COVID-19.

Resumo Objetivo Avaliar o impacto da raça (negra versus não negra) nos desfechos maternos e perinatais de gestantes com COVID-19 no Brasil. Métodos Esta é uma subanálise da REBRACO, um estudo de coorte multicêntrico brasileiro desenhado para avaliar o impacto da COVID-19 em mulheres grávidas. De fevereiro de 2020 a fevereiro de 2021, 15 maternidades do Brasil coletaram dados de mulheres com sintomas respiratórios. Selecionamos todas as mulheres com teste positivo para COVID-19; em seguida, as dividimos em dois grupos: mulheres negras e não negras. Finalmente, comparamos, entre os grupos, os resultados sociodemográficos, maternos e perinatais. Obtivemos a frequência dos eventos em cada grupo e comparamos usando o teste X2; Valores de p <0,05 foram considerados significativos. Também estimamos o odds ratio (OR) e os intervalos de confiança (IC). Resultados 729 mulheres sintomáticas foram incluídas no estudo; desses, 285 foram positivos para COVID-19, 120 (42,1%) eram negros e 165 (57,9%) não eram negros. As mulheres negras apresentaram pior escolaridade (p = 0,037). O tempo de acesso ao sistema de saúde foi semelhante entre os dois grupos, com 26,3% incluídos com sete ou mais dias de sintomas. Síndrome respiratória aguda grave (OR 2,22 CI 1,17–4,21), admissão em unidade de terapia intensiva (OR 2,00 CI 1,07–3,74) e dessaturação na admissão (OR 3,72 CI 1,41–9,84) foram mais prováveis de ocorrer entre mulheres negras. A mortalidade materna foi maior entre as negras (7,8% vs. 2,6%, p = 0,048). Os resultados perinatais foram semelhantes entre os dois grupos. Conclusão Mulheres negras brasileiras tiveram maior probabilidade de morrer devido às consequências da COVID-19.

Abstract Historically, phenol/croton oil deep chemical peeling has been very effective and has generated excellent results compared to other formulas used in dermatological clinics. However, it can cause serious side effects in patients sensitive to phenol. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a liquid crystalline structure containing croton oil (without phenol) as well as to evaluate the physical characteristics and cytotoxicity of this new system. Rational proportions of the croton oil, purified water, and polyethylene glycol hexadecyl ether were designed through a partial phase diagram to obtain 26 formulations. After macroscopic analysis and polarized light microscopy evaluation, formulations with lamellar liquid crystalline phase (4 samples) were identified and chosen to determine pH, size, polydispersion index (PDI), zeta potential, and rheological behavior. After 48 hours, three samples presented phase separation. Formulation 8 remained stable, but hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC, 0.5%, w/w) was added to the aqueous phase, to prevent coalescence. Sample 8A exhibited a pH compatible with the skin, nanometric size, narrow PDI, negative zeta potential, and stability throughout the study period. The addition of HEC improved the organization of the system, making the formulation more stable. The oil, fractions of the oil, and the sample exhibited increasing cytotoxicity, respectively. This result could be attributed to the fractionation process of the vegetal matrix, and the surfactant present in the formulation increased the cell membrane permeability. The proposed approach successfully achieved a physically stable liquid crystal system containing croton oil.

Abstract The determination of hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) in bee honey is performed by the spectrophotometric methods Winkler's and White's. The Winkler method reads the absorbances in the visible region of the spectrum, and the White method measures in the ultraviolet (UV) and visible regions of the spectrum. This study aims to compare the spectrophotometric methodologies of White and Winkler to the determination of HMF in bee honey. For the study, it was used a UV-visible spectrophotometer, 10 mm optical path quartz cuvettes, and ten bee honey samples of different flowering. Absorbances at 550 nm were analyzed by the Winkler method; absorbances at 284 nm and 336 nm in the White method; and a comparison of HMF concentration (mg/kg) was carried out between the methods. The results showed significant differences (p<0.05) in HMF concentration determined by both methods. The main conclusion is that the Winkler method presents higher HMF values than the White method.

ABSTRACT Brazil has been facing a huge rise in fuel and diesel prices due to the rise in the international market and the war between Ukraine and Russia. The rise in electricity prices is also a problem that affects everyone in Brazil. This study aimed to evaluate the performance and emissions of a diesel engine for power generation that operates with crambe-based fuels with blends of 0% (control), B5, B10, B15, B20, B50, B70, and B90. The fuels were tested in an 8 kVA generator engine at a load of up to 6000 W. The biofuels were obtained from a mixture of diesel with crambe biodiesel at incremental levels from B0 to B90 in the fuel mixture. The increased proportion of crambe biodiesel resulted in lower specific consumption. Crambe biodiesel resulted in a reduction of CO, CO2, and NO2 emissions due to an increase in crambe biodiesel at the proportion. The results indicate that crambe biodiesel blends are viable technical solutions for the partial replacement of conventional diesel.

ABSTRACT Purpose to verify whether there are differences in acoustic measures and oropharyngeal geometry between healthy individuals and people with Parkinson's disease, according to age and sex, and to investigate whether there are correlations between oropharyngeal geometry measures in this population. Methods 40 individuals participated, 20 with a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease and 20 healthy individuals, matched by age, sex, and body mass index. Acoustic variables included fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer, glottal-to-noise excitation ratio, noise, and mean intensity. Oropharyngeal geometry variables were measured with acoustic pharyngometry. Results geometry variables were smaller in the group with Parkinson's disease, and older adults with Parkinson's disease had a smaller oropharyngeal junction area than healthy older adults. Regarding acoustic parameters of voice, fundamental frequency values were lower in males with Parkinson's disease, and jitter values were higher in the non-elderly subjects with Parkinson's disease. There was a moderate positive correlation between oral cavity length and volume, pharyngeal cavity length and vocal tract length, and pharyngeal cavity volume and vocal tract volume. Conclusion individuals with Parkinson's disease had smaller glottal areas and oropharyngeal junction areas than healthy individuals. When distributed into sex and age groups, the fundamental frequency was lower in males with Parkinson's disease. There was a moderate positive correlation between oropharyngeal length and volume measures in the study sample.

RESUMO Objetivo verificar se existem diferenças nas medidas acústicas e da geometria orofaríngea entre indivíduos hígidos e pessoas com Doença de Parkinson, segundo a idade e sexo e investigar se há correlações entre as medidas geométricas orofaríngeas nessa população. Método participaram 40 indivíduos, sendo 20 com diagnóstico de Doença de Parkinson e 20 indivíduos hígidos, pareados por faixa etária, sexo e índice de massa corporal. As variáveis acústicas estudadas foram frequência fundamental, jitter, shimmer, glottal-to-noise excitation ratio, ruído e média da intensidade. As variáveis geométricas da orofaringe foram aferidas por faringometria acústica. Resultados as variáveis geométricas foram menores no grupo com Doença de Parkinson e os idosos com Doença de Parkinson apresentaram menor área da junção orofaríngea que os idosos hígidos. Com relação aos parâmetros acústicos vocais, o valor da frequência fundamental foi menor no sexo masculino, no grupo com Doença de Parkinson e os valores de jitter foram maiores no grupo não idoso dos sujeitos com Doença de Parkinson. Houve correlação positiva moderada entre o comprimento e volume da cavidade oral, comprimento da cavidade faríngea e o comprimento do trato vocal e do volume da cavidade faríngea e o volume do trato vocal. Conclusão indivíduos com Doença de Parkinson apresentaram menores valores de área glótica e área da junção orofaríngea, comparativamente aos hígidos. Quando distribuídos por faixa etária e sexo, a frequência fundamental foi menor no grupo com doença de Parkinson, na população masculina. Houve correlação positiva moderada entre as medidas de comprimento e volume da orofaringe, na amostra estudada.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the sociodemographic profile, diagnoses and nursing care of post-COVID-19 patients admitted to a university hospital in southern Brazil. Methods: a retrospective cohort study. The sample consisted of 1,467 medical records, from January 2020 to January 2021. Results: from the analyzed medical records, the most prevalent profiles, respectively, included: males (52.9%); white (81.1%); with Impaired Physiological Balance Syndrome* Nursing Diagnosis (77.3%); nursing care implementing aerosol precautions (94.5%); implementing droplet precautions (93.4%); checking vital signs (91.9%); applying standard disinfectant to equipment and surfaces (89.6%). Conclusions: the analysis of the sociodemographic profile, diagnoses and nursing care of patients in this study may contribute to implementing the Nursing Process in the coronavirus pandemic context.

RESUMEN Objetivos: analizar el perfil sociodemográfico, diagnósticos y cuidados de enfermería de pacientes post-COVID-19 internados en un hospital universitario del sur de Brasil. Métodos: un estudio de cohorte retrospectivo. La muestra estuvo conformada por 1.467 historias clínicas, desde enero de 2020 hasta enero de 2021. Resultados: de las historias clínicas analizadas, los perfiles más prevalentes, respectivamente, incluyeron: hombres (52,9%); blanco (81,1%); con diagnóstico de enfermería de síndrome del equilibrio fisiológico alterado* (77,3%); los cuidados de enfermería implementan medidas de precaución por aerosoles (94,5%); implementar medidas de precaución por gotitas (93,4%); control de signos vitales (91,9%); aplicar desinfectante estándar a equipos y superficies (89,6%). Conclusiones: el análisis del perfil sociodemográfico, diagnósticos y cuidados de enfermería de los pacientes de este estudio puede contribuir para la implementación del Proceso de Enfermería en el contexto de pandemia del coronavirus.

Conclusões: a análise do perfil sociodemográfico, diagnósticos e cuidados de enfermagem dos pacientes deste estudo poderá contribuir à implementação do Processo de Enfermagem no contexto pandêmico do coronavírus.

ABSTRACT Background: Leptospirosis represents a One Health issue, affecting humans and animals. This study investigated pathogenic leptospires in small wild rodents in São Paulo, Brazil. Methods: Kidney samples from 164 rodents underwent qPCR testing, targeting pathogenic Leptospira spp. Results: Thirty-five animals (21.34%) tested positive, including five rodent species: Akodon montensis (2/21; 9.5%), Necromys lasiurus (1/4; 25%), Oligoryzomys nigripes (24/92; 26.1%), Oligoryzomys flavescens (5/26; 19.2%), and Sooretamys angouya (3/14; 21.4%). Botucatu municipality exhibited the highest prevalence, with 42.5% (20/47) of the animals testing positive. Conclusions: The presence of Leptospira spp. in wild rodents suggests they may be chronic carriers, contaminating the environment.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar se a puberdade e o parto alteram a contagem de folículos antrais (CFA) em fêmeas Nelore (Bos indicus) de corte. Foram realizados dois experimentos para comparar a CFA entre os períodos pré-púbere e púbere e entre os períodos pré-púbere e pós-parto. A CFA e a concentração folicular não diferiram entre os períodos pré-púbere e púbere. Entretanto, a área ovariana foi maior após a puberdade. Além disso, a CFA e a área do ovário foram maiores no período pós-parto quando comparado ao pré-púbere. Portanto, a CFA não é afetada pela puberdade de novilhas Nelore, mas aumenta significativamente quando as novilhas pré-púberes se tornam vacas. Abstract The objective of this work was to investigate whether puberty and parturition alter the antral follicle count (AFC) in female Nelore (Bos indicus) beef cattle. Two experiments were carried out to compare AFC between the prepubertal and pubertal periods and between the prepubertal and postpartum periods. AFC and follicle concentrations did not differ between the prepubertal and pubertal periods. However, the ovarian area increased after puberty. In addition, AFC and the ovarian area were greater in the postpartum than in the prepubertal period. Resumo Fundamento: Apesar da importância das mulheres na pesquisa clínica, não existe uma avaliação da fração de mulheres em posições de autoria nos periódicos de cardiologia da SBC. Objetivos: Avaliar a fração de mulheres autoras na International Journal of Cardiovascular Sciences (IJCS) e nos Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia (ABC Cardiol) nas últimas décadas. Métodos: Realizamos busca dos artigos originais dos ABC Cardiol, entre 2000 e 2019, e da IJCS, entre 2010 e 2019. Foi feito levantamento do número de primeiras e últimas autoras e do total de artigos originais de 2010 a 2019. Calculamos as proporções totais de autorias femininas e comparamos o primeiro quinquênio com o segundo. Para avaliar a evolução temporal das duas décadas, analisamos apenas dados dos ABC Cardiol. Utilizamos o teste Qui-quadrado para analisar as diferenças dentro de cada revista e entre ambas. O software IBM® SPSS® foi utilizado nas análises. O nível de significância adotado foi de 5%. Resultados: De 2010 a 2019, foram publicados 1157 artigos originais nos ABC Cardiol e 398 na IJCS. Observamos que as mulheres têm maior predominância como primeiras autoras na IJCS em relação aos ABC Cardiol, mas os homens predominam como últimos autores em ambos. De 2010 a 2019, não houve modificação significativa na proporção de autorias femininas. Ao longo das décadas analisadas para os ABC Cardiol, houve projeção de crescimento linear de autorias femininas, sendo que a inclinação da reta é maior na projeção da primeira autoria que na autoria sênior. Conclusões: Há disparidade de gênero com menor representatividade feminina nas autorias dos artigos dos periódicos cardiológicos brasileiros analisados: Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia e International Journal of Cardiovascular Sciences. Acreditamos que a partir destes resultados mais esforços devam ser implementados em busca de equidade de gênero na produção científica cardiológica veiculada por estes periódicos.

Abstract Background: Despite the importance of women in clinical research, no assessment has been made of the fraction of women in a leadership positions in the Cardiology journals of the SBC. Objectives: To assess the fraction of female authors in the International Journal of Cardiovascular Sciences (IJCS) and the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia (ABC Cardiol) over the last decades. Methods: We searched the original articles of the ABC Cardiol, from 2000 to 2019, and of the IJCS, from 2010 to 2019. We surveyed the number of first and senior female authors and the total number of original articles from 2010 to 2019. We calculated the total proportion of female authorship and compared the first quinquennium with the second. Only data from the ABC Cardiol were analyzed to assess the temporal evolution of the two decades. We used the chi-square test to assess the differences within each journal and between them. The IBM® SPSS® software was used in the analyses. The level of significance adopted was 5%. Results: From 2010 to 2019, 1,157 original articles were published in the ABC Cardiol and 398 in the IJCS. We observed that women are more prevalent as first authors in the IJCS compared to the ABC Cardiol, but men prevail as senior authors in both journals. From 2010 to 2019, there was no significant change in the proportion of female authorship. Throughout the decades analyzed for the ABC Cardiol, there was a projection of linear growth of female authorship, with the slope of the line being greater in the first authorship than in senior authorship. Conclusions: There is gender disparity, with lower female representativeness in authorship in the articles from the Brazilian Cardiology journals analyzed: Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia and International Journal of Cardiovascular Sciences. We believe that based on these results, more efforts should be implemented in the search for gender equity in the cardiology scientific production published by these journals.

Abstract Objectives: to verify the adequacy of recommendations on food and nutrition for infants available on popular websites in relation to the “Twelve Steps for a Healthy Diet” from the Dietary guidelines for Brazilian children under 2 years of age. Methods: popular websites were searched via the Google platform to collect data about food recommendations for children under 2 years of age. The data was categorized according to criteria developed with the Guide: totally agree, partially agree, disagree, contradictory and absent. The websites were described according to the frequency of each step and the distribution in the categories. Results: 82 websites were included. Most frequent steps: 1 (84.1%), 2 (82.9%) and 4 (63.4%); least present: 8 (23.2%), 10 (19.5%), 11 (3.7%) and 12 (1.2%). The highest percentages of adequacy in relation to the Guide were steps 1 and 4 with 46.4% and 53.8%, respectively. Steps 3 (37.9%) and 7 (75.0%) had the highest percentages of disagreement or contradiction. Conclusions: there is proper information on the internet, however, these are mixed with missing, in disagreement, partially in agreement or contradictory information, which reinforces the importance of disseminating the recommendations of the Guide

Resumo Objetivos: analisar a adequação das recomendações sobre alimentação e nutrição de lactentes disponíveis em websites populares em relação aos “Doze passos para uma alimentação saudável” descritos no Guia alimentar para crianças brasileiras menores de dois anos. Métodos: websites populares foram buscados via plataforma Google para coleta de dados relativos às recomendações sobre alimentação de lactentes. As informações foram categorizadas segundo critérios desenvolvidos em relação à consonância com o Guia em: totalmente de acordo, parcialmente de acordo, em desacordo, contraditórias e ausentes. Os websites foram descritos e apresentados segundo frequência de cada passo e a distribuição segundo as categorias. Resultados: foram incluídos 82 websites. Passos mais presentes: 1 (84,1%), 2 (82,9%) e 4 (63,4%); passos menos presentes: 8 (23,2%), 10 (19,5%), 11 (3,7%) e 12 (1,2%). Os maiores percentuais de adequação em relação ao Guia foram os passos 1 e 4 com 46,4% e 53,8%, respectivamente. Os passos 3 (37,9%) e 7 (75,0%) apresentaram os maiores percentuais de desacordo ou contradição. Conclusões: identificou-se a presença de informações adequadas na internet, entretanto, estas se misturam com informações ausentes, em desacordo, parcialmente de acordo ou contraditórias, reforçando a importância da disseminação das recomendações do Guia.

Resumo Além das questões técnicas e científicas, o ambiente escolar é importante para o desenvolvimento global do ser humano. Exemplos são as atividades educacionais que visam a promoção da saúde dos envolvidos neste ambiente. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar a relação do ambiente educacional de internato com a promoção do bem-estar psicológico de professores e estudantes. Trata-se de um estudo aplicado, transversal, de abordagem quantitativa, realizado com 27 professores e 129 estudantes da educação básica de uma instituição de internato do Sul do Brasil. Os instrumentos utilizados foram um questionário sociodemográfico e a Escala de Bem-Estar Psicológico. Os resultados revelam uma relação significativa entre o ambiente educacional de internato e a promoção do bem-estar psicológico. Todos os professores e 106 estudantes evidenciam a importância dessa experiência para o crescimento pessoal, a autonomia e a autoaceitação. Já 84 estudantes (79,3%) apresentam altos índices de bem-estar psicológico, no entanto 22 estudantes (20,7%) apresentam baixos índices. Assim, o ambiente de internato e as experiências vividas com as pessoas inseridas neste contexto influenciam diretamente no processo de autoaceitação, relações interpessoais e autonomia dos envolvidos.

Resumen Además de los aspectos técnicos y científicos, el ambiente escolar es importante para el desarrollo global del ser humano. Como ejemplo están las actividades educativas que buscan promover la salud de quienes están en dicho entorno. El objetivo de este estudio fue investigar la relación entre el ambiente educativo de un internado y la promoción del bienestar psicológico de profesores y alumnos. El estudio es aplicado y transversal, con enfoque cuantitativo, llevado a cabo con 27 profesores y 129 estudiantes de educación básica de un internado del sur de Brasil. Los instrumentos utilizados fueron el cuestionario sociodemográfico y la Escala de bienestar psicológico. Los resultados muestran una relación significativa entre el ambiente educativo del internado y la promoción del bienestar psicológico. Todos los profesores y 106 estudiantes destacan la importancia de esta experiencia para el crecimiento personal, la autonomía y la autoaceptación. Además, 84 estudiantes -79,3 %- presentan niveles altos de bienestar psicológico, mientras que 22 estudiantes -20,7 %- muestran niveles bajos. Así, el ambiente del internado y las experiencias vividas con las personas inmersas en este contexto influyen directamente en el proceso de autoaceptación, en las relaciones interpersonales y en la autonomía de las personas implicadas.

Abstract Beyond technical and scientific aspects, school environment is important for the overall development of the human being. Examples of this are the educational activities aimed at promoting the health of those involved in such environment. The objective of this study was to investigate the connection between the educational environment in boarding schools and the promotion of psychological well-being of teachers and students. This is an applied and cross-sectional study, with a quantitative approach, carried out with 27 teachers and 129 students of Basic Education in a boarding school in the south of Brazil. The instruments used were a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Psychological Well-Being Scale. The results show a significant relationship between the educational environment of the boarding school and the promotion of psychological well-being. All teachers and 106 students emphasized the importance of this experience for personal growth, autonomy, and self-acceptance. In addition, 84 students (79.3%) reported high levels of psychological well-being, while 22 students (20.7%) reported low levels. Thus, the environment of the boarding school and the experiences lived with the people involved in this context directly influence the process of self-acceptance, interpersonal relationships, and autonomy of those who are there.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar o índice de desvantagem vocal para o canto de coristas idosos e verificar a sua relação com perfil, hábitos e condições de saúde dos participantes. Método Foram incluídos 110 indivíduos com 60 anos ou mais, participantes de coros amadores. Os coristas foram entrevistados a fim de verificar dados como idade, tempo de canto coral, classificação vocal e a presença de hábitos e condições de saúde adversas à produção vocal. Posteriormente, responderam o questionário “Índice de Desvantagem Vocal para o Canto (IDV-C)” que avalia a autopercepção do indivíduo em relação às experiências no uso da voz cantada. Resultados O escore do IDV-C teve uma mediana de 25, sendo a pontuação mínima 0 e a máxima 86. Os itens mais pontuados estavam relacionados aos aspectos físicos no uso da voz cantada: “Não consigo cantar agudo” (Q10) e “Minha garganta fica seca quando canto” (Q13). Verificou-se que os idosos com mais de 75 anos apresentaram maior desvantagem vocal para o canto ao comparar com os mais jovens (p=0,020). As coristas classificadas como contralto também apresentaram maior escore do IDV-C (p=0,023), assim como os indivíduos que relataram beber pouca água (p=0,007). Conclusão Os coristas deste estudo apresentaram um índice de desvantagem vocal para o canto compatível com vozes saudáveis para o canto. Ao verificar a relação do escore do IDV-C com as características dos participantes e a respeito dos hábitos e condições de saúde, constatou-se que os coristas idosos com mais de 75 anos, as coristas contralto e aqueles que afirmaram beber pouca água apresentaram escores maiores de desvantagem vocal para o canto.

ABSTRACT Purpose To analyze the singing voice handicap index in elderly choristers and verify its relationship with the profile, habits and health conditions of the participants. Methods 110 individuals aged 60 years or older, participating in amateur choirs, were included. Choir singers were interviewed in order to verify data such as age, time in choir singing, vocal classification, and the presence of habits and health conditions adverse to voice production. Subsequently, they answered the questionnaire “Singing Voice Handicap Index (SVHI)”, which assesses the individual's self-perception in relation to experiences in the use of the singing voice. Results The SVHI score had a median of 25, with a minimum score of 0 and a maximum score of 86. The most scored items were related to physical aspects in the use of singing voice: “I am unable to use my ‘high voice’” (Q10) and “My throat is dry when I sing”(Q13). It was found that older adults over 75 years of age had a greater voice handicap when compared to younger ones (p=0.020). Choir singers classified as contralto also had a higher SVHI score (p=0.023), as well as individuals who reported drinking little water (p=0.007). Conclusion The choristers in this study presented a singing voice handicap index compatible with healthy singing voices. When verifying the relationship of the SVHI score with the characteristics of the participants and with respect to habits and health conditions, it was found that the elderly choir singers over 75 years old, the contralto choir singers, and those who claimed to drink little water had higher scores for the singing voice handicap.

Abstract Background: Patients using immunosuppressive drugs may have unfavorable results after infections. However, there is a lack of information regarding COVID 19 in these patients, especially in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the risk factors associated with COVID 19 hospitalizations in patients with RA. Methods: This multicenter, prospective cohort study is within the ReumaCoV Brazil registry and included 489 patients with RA. In this context, 269 patients who tested positive for COVID 19 were compared to 220 patients who tested negative for COVID 19 (control group). All patient data were collected from the Research Electronic Data Capture database. Results: The participants were predominantly female (90.6%) with a mean age of 53 ±12 years. Of the patients with COVID 19, 54 (20.1%) required hospitalization. After multiple adjustments, the final regression model showed that heart disease (OR =4.61, 95% CI 1.06–20.02. P < 0.001) and current use of glucocorticoids (OR =20.66, 95% CI 3.09–138. P < 0.002) were the risk factors associated with hospitalization. In addition, anosmia was associated with a lower chance of hospitalization (OR =0.26; 95% CI 0.10–0.67, P < 0.005). Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that heart disease and the use of glucocorticoids were associated with a higher number of hospital admissions for COVID 19 in patients with RA. Resumo Fundamento No microambiente da placa aterosclerótica, os fosfolipídios oxidados expressos na superfície de lipoproteína de baixa densidade oxidada (oxLDL) se ligam a receptores scavenger em macrófagos provocando a formação de células espumosas e a progressão da placa. Autoanticorpos contra oxLDL (oxLDL-Ab) interagem com epítopos oxidativos levando à formação de imunocomplexos que são incapazes de interagir com receptores de macrófagos, assim suprimindo a aterogênese. A liberação de oxLDL-Ab pelas células B envolve a resposta da interleucina 5 e Th2, que por sua vez são potencializadas pela HDL. Assim, levantamos a hipótese de que indivíduos com níveis mais altos de HDL-C podem apresentar níveis elevados de oxLDL-Ab. Objetivo Avaliar a relação entre os níveis de HDL-C e oxLDL-Ab. Métodos Indivíduos assintomáticos (n = 193) foram agrupados de acordo com sua concentração de HDL-C para uma das três categorias seguintes: baixa (< 68 mg/dL), intermediária (de 68 a 80 mg/dL) ou alta (> 80 mg/dL). Os valores p < 0,05 foram considerados estatisticamente significativos. Resultados Nossa análise incluiu 193 indivíduos (média etária: 47 anos; masculino: 26,3%). Em comparação com os indivíduos no menor tercil de HDL-C, os mais elevados foram mais velhos (36 versus 53 anos; p = 0,001) e, menos frequentemente, masculinos (42,6% versus 20,9%; p = 0,001). Os valores médios de oxLDL-Ab aumentaram à medida que o grupo HDL-C aumentou (0,31, 0,33 e 0,43 unidades, respectivamente; p = 0,001 para tendência). A regressão linear simples encontrou uma relação significativa e positiva entre a variável independente, HDL-C, e a variável dependente, oxLDL-Ab (R = 0,293; p = 0,009). Essa relação manteve-se significativa (R = 0,30; p = 0,044), após ajuste por covariáveis. Os níveis de apolipoproteína AI também estiveram relacionados a oxLDL-Ab nos modelos de regressão linear simples e ajustada. Conclusões HDL-C e oxLDL-Ab estão independentemente relacionados.

Abstract Background In the atherosclerotic plaque microenvironment, oxidized phospholipids expressed in the oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) surface bind to scavenger receptors of macrophages eliciting foam cell formation and plaque progression. Auto-antibodies against oxLDL (oxLDL-Ab) interact with oxidative epitopes leading to the formation of immune complexes that are unable to interact with macrophage receptors, thus abrogating atherogenesis. Release of oxLDL-Ab by B cells involves interleukin 5 and Th2 response, which in turn are potentiated by HDL. Thereby, we hypothesized that individuals with higher levels of HDL-C may plausibly display elevated titers of oxLDL-Ab. Objective To evaluate the relationship between HDL-C and oxLDL-Ab levels. Methods Asymptomatic individuals (n = 193) were grouped according to their HDL-C concentration to one of three categories: low (< 68 mg/dL), intermediate (68 to 80 mg/dL) or high (> 80 mg/dL). P values < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results Our analysis included 193 individuals (mean age: 47 years; male: 26.3%). Compared to individuals in the lowest HDL-C tertile, those in the highest tertile were older (36 versus 53 years; p = 0.001) and less frequently male (42.6% versus 20.9%; p = 0.001). Mean values of oxLDL-Ab increased as the HDL-C group escalated (0.31, 0.33 and 0.43 units, respectively; p = 0.001 for trend). Simple linear regression found a significant, positive relationship between the independent variable, HDL-C, and the dependent variable, oxLDL-Ab (R = 0.293; p = 0.009). This relation remained significant (R = 0.30; p = 0.044), after adjustment by covariates. Apolipoprotein AI levels were also related to oxLDL-Ab in both simple and adjusted linear regression models. Conclusion HDL-C and oxLDL-Ab are independently related.

ABSTRACT COVID-19 disease is spread worldwide and diagnostic techniques have been studied in order to contain the pandemic. Immunochromatographic (IC) assays are feasible and a low-cost alternative especially in low and middle-income countries, which lack structure to perform certain diagnostic techniques. Here we evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of eleven different IC tests in 145 serum samples from confirmed cases of COVID-19 using RT-PCR and 100 negative serum samples from blood donors collected in February 2019. We also evaluated the cross-reactivity with dengue using 20 serum samples from patients with confirmed diagnosis for dengue collected in early 2019 through four different tests. We found high sensitivity (92%), specificity (100%) and an almost perfect agreement (Kappa 0.92) of IC assay, especially when we evaluated IgG and IgM combined after 10 days from the onset of symptoms with RT-PCR. However, we detected cross-reactivity between dengue and COVID-19 mainly with IgM antibodies (5 to 20% of cross-reaction) and demonstrated the need for better studies about diagnostic techniques for these diseases.
