Methods used to determine pesticide residues in teas typically require several laborious steps for sample preparation before analysis. In this study, a simple method based on solid-liquid extraction with low-temperature partitioning (SLE/LTP) and analysis by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was optimized and validated for the determination of pesticide residues (pirimiphos-methyl, flutriafol, cyproconazole, and bifenthrin) in dehydrated green tea leaves. After low-temperature partitioning (LTP), the extract in acetonitrile was subjected to a clean-up step using primary secondary amine (PSA) and octadecylsilane (C18) as sorbents for chlorophyll removal. The optimized SLE/LTP-GC-MS method was validated, and it proved to be effective and selective for extracting pesticides from green tea samples, presenting limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.015 and 0.050 mg kg-1, respectively. Recovery ranged between 81-111%, coefficients of variation were less than 16% and coefficients of determination (R2) were greater than 0.990. The optimized and validated method was applied to green tea and 13 other tea varieties sampled in South and Southeast regions of Brazil. Resumen Este estudio tiene como objetivo indicar el potencial de la inteligencia artificial (IA) en los informes epidemiológicos de dientes cariados, perdidos y restaurados. Como prueba de concepto, nuestro modelo de estudio utilizó imágenes panorámicas de rayos X y un algoritmo de inteligencia artificial para la numeración de dientes, la detección de caries y las restauraciones con una precisión superior al 80 % para dichas tareas de diagnóstico. El resultado fue el número de dientes cariados, perdidos y restaurados según la edad del paciente y el índice CPOD (número de dientes cariados, perdidos y obturados) que varió de 3,6 (hasta 20 años) a 20,4 (+60 años). Por tanto, se sugiere que la IA es un método prometedor para automatizar la recopilación de datos de salud mediante el análisis de rayos X.

Abstract This study aims to indicate the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in epidemiological reports of decayed, missed and restored teeth. As a proof of concept our study model used panoramic x-ray images and an AI algorithm for tooth numbering, detection of the caries and restorations with accuracy over 80% for such diagnostic tasks. The output came as the number of decayed, missed and restored teeth according to patient's age and the DMFT index (number of decayed, missing, and filled teeth) which varied from 3.6 (up to 20 years old) to 20.4 (+60 years old). Thus, it is suggested that AI is a promising method to automate health data collection through the analysis of x-rays.

Abstract This study aimed to identify and characterize the antimicrobial susceptibility profile of bacteria found in primary endodontic infections in the teeth of patients treated at the Dental Clinic of the University of Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil. From September to December 2019, samples were obtained from 21 patients with primary endodontic infections. The collections were carried out in triplicate using paper cones placed close to the total length of the root canal. Bacterial isolation was performed in Brain Heart Infusion agar, Blood agar, and other selective culture media cultured at 37°C for up to 48 h under aerobiosis and microaerophilic conditions. The bacterial species were identified using the Vitek 2 automated system. The disk diffusion method on agar Müeller–Hinton was used to assess antimicrobial susceptibility with the recommended antimicrobials for each identified bacterial species. A total of 49 antibiotics were evaluated. Fifteen of the 21 samples collected showed bacterial growth, and 17 bacterial isolates were found. There were 10 different bacterial species identified: Enterococcus faecalis (four isolates), Streptococcus mitis/oralis (three isolates), Streptococcus anginosus (three isolates) being the most common, followed by Staphylococcus epidermidis, Enterococcus faecium, Streptococcus constellatus, Streptococcus alactolyticus, Enterobacter cloacae, Klebsiella variicola, and Providencia rettgeri (one isolate of each species). The analysis demonstrated significant susceptibility to most of the tested antibiotics. However, some Enterococcus isolates resisted the antibiotic’s erythromycin, ciprofloxacin, and tetracycline. A Staphylococcus epidermidis isolate was characterized as multidrug-resistant. Five Streptococcus isolates were non-susceptible to all antibiotics tested. ABSTRACT Background: Driving pressure has been suggested to be the main driver of ventilator-induced lung injury and mortality in observational studies of acute respiratory distress syndrome. Whether a driving pressure-limiting strategy can improve clinical outcomes is unclear. Objective: To describe the protocol and statistical analysis plan that will be used to test whether a driving pressure-limiting strategy including positive end-expiratory pressure titration according to the best respiratory compliance and reduction in tidal volume is superior to a standard strategy involving the use of the ARDSNet low-positive end-expiratory pressure table in terms of increasing the number of ventilator-free days in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome due to community-acquired pneumonia. Methods: The ventilator STrAtegy for coMmunIty acquired pNeumoniA (STAMINA) study is a randomized, multicenter, open-label trial that compares a driving pressure-limiting strategy to the ARDSnet low-positive end-expiratory pressure table in patients with moderate-to-severe acute respiratory distress syndrome due to community-acquired pneumonia admitted to intensive care units. We expect to recruit 500 patients from 20 Brazilian and 2 Colombian intensive care units. They will be randomized to a driving pressure-limiting strategy group or to a standard strategy using the ARDSNet low-positive end-expiratory pressure table. In the driving pressure-limiting strategy group, positive end-expiratory pressure will be titrated according to the best respiratory system compliance. Outcomes: The primary outcome is the number of ventilator-free days within 28 days. The secondary outcomes are in-hospital and intensive care unit mortality and the need for rescue therapies such as extracorporeal life support, recruitment maneuvers and inhaled nitric oxide. Conclusion: STAMINA is designed to provide evidence on whether a driving pressure-limiting strategy is superior to the ARDSNet low-positive end-expiratory pressure table strategy for increasing the number of ventilator-free days within 28 days in patients with moderate-to-severe acute respiratory distress syndrome. RESUMO Contexto: Em estudos observacionais sobre a síndrome do desconforto respiratório agudo, sugeriu-se que a driving pressure é o principal fator de lesão pulmonar induzida por ventilador e de mortalidade. Não está claro se uma estratégia de limitação da driving pressure pode melhorar os desfechos clínicos. Objetivo: Descrever o protocolo e o plano de análise estatística que serão usados para testar se uma estratégia de limitação da driving pressure envolvendo a titulação da pressão positiva expiratória final de acordo com a melhor complacência respiratória e a redução do volume corrente é superior a uma estratégia padrão envolvendo o uso da tabela de pressão positiva expiratória final baixa do protocolo ARDSNet, em termos de aumento do número de dias sem ventilador em pacientes com síndrome do desconforto respiratório agudo devido à pneumonia adquirida na comunidade. ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the duplicity and synergism of slow drying and storage processes at low temperatures, using a refrigerated room under suitable conditions for coffee fruit just after harvest. A cold room was prepared to receive and store coffee fruit in bulk directly from the field, perform slow drying, and maintain water content at approximately 12% during three months of storage. The room operated at temperatures between 7 and 14 ºC and relative humidity between 37 and 41%. The coffee variety used was the Conilon Yellow 62. The initial water content reduction period from 54% (wb) to 12% (wb) was two months. For comparison, coffee harvested from the same batch was dried on a covered suspended bed. Results showed that the coffee dried and stored in the cold room received a sensory score of 86.41, while that dried on a suspended bed obtained a sensory score of 84.16. Moreover, the coffee dried and stored in the cold room had a higher energy content. Colorimetric analysis showed that the dried grains stored in the cold room had a reduction in the "a" coordinate, indicating an approximation to the green color. ABSTRACT To ensure the viability of bacteria in the biomineralization process for crack filling and healing, protection from the heat (generated by cement hydration) and the retraction (during hardening) of the microorganisms is required. Superabsorbent polymers, as chitosan, known for their resistance during mixing and water storage capacity, are suitable bacteria carriers. This study aimed to determine the optimal percentage of chitosan capsules and its effects on the physical and mechanical properties in mortars. Mortar formulations containing 0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5% of chitosan capsules (relative to the total cement weight) were developed keeping the original granulometric distribution. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) for each individual property and post-hoc tests with corrections of Bonferroni and Tukey demonstrated that the formulation significantly impacted both properties through aging. Formulations AQ-0.5C and AQ-1.0C (0.5% and 1.0% of capsules respectively) maintained the flow levels comparable to the original formula. AQ-0.5C showcased the most favorable outcomes, exhibiting mechanical resistance up to 10% higher than the capsule-free original formula. Even slightly inferior results, AQ-1.0C still presented a higher strength mechanical up to 5% over the original formula. ABSTRACT Objective To estimate the point prevalence of and risk factors associated with the development of pressure ulcers at a university hospital in Brazil. Methods This study was conducted on 196 participants using a structured questionnaire, physical examination of the skin, and the Braden scale. The Mann-Whitney U, χ2, or Fisher’s exact tests were used to compare the participants and the associations of variables with pressure ulcers. A modified multivariate Poisson regression model was built considering the presence of pressure injuries and the independent variables. Results The point prevalence of pressure ulcers was 10.71% and was significantly associated with less than 12 years of schooling (p=0.0213), use of antihypertensive drugs during hospital stay (p=0.0259), diagnosis of systemic hypertension (p=0.0035), and diabetes mellitus. Lower scores on the Braden scale (p=0.0001) were positively associated with the presence of pressure ulcers. Furthermore, cardiovascular disease (p=0.0267) and diaper use (p=0.0001) were associated with the presence of pressure ulcers. Moreover, they were also associated with prolonged hospital stay, advanced age, less than 12 years of schooling, use of antihypertensive drugs, hypertension, diabetes, and lower Braden scale scores. Conclusion Health professionals should be aware of the risk factors associated with pressure ulcers, evaluate patient skin daily, and offer prevention. Our findings support the need to allocate resources for the prevention and treatment of pressure injuries. RESUMEN Objetivo: Analizar los aspectos relacionales y funcionales de la seguridad del paciente a través de experiencias relatadas por el paciente o sus cuidadores en unidades de cuidados intensivos. Método: revisión de alcance desarrollada con búsquedas, en septiembre de 2021 y actualizada en noviembre de 2022, en las bases de datos: Biblioteca Virtual en Salud, considerando únicamente las bases de datos LILACS, BDENF, IBECS, ColecionaSUS; SCIELO, PSYCINFO, EMBASE, COCHRANE, CINAHL, SCOPUS y Web of Science. Método: revisão de escopo desenvolvida com buscas, em setembro de 2021 e atualizadas em novembro de 2022, nas bases de dados: Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, considerando apenas as bases LILACS, BDENF, IBECS, ColecionaSUS; SCIELO, PSYCINFO, EMBASE, COCHRANE, CINAHL, SCOPUS e Web of Science. ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the relational and functional aspects of patient safety through the experiences reported by the patients themselves and/or their caregivers in intensive care units. Method: Scoping review developed with searches, in September 2021 and updated in November 2022, in the following databases: Virtual Health Library, considering only the LILACS, BDENF, IBECS, ColecionaSUS databases; SCIELO, PsycINFO, EMBASE, COCHRANE, CINAHL, SCOPUS and Web of Science. Results: The final selection included 14 articles highlighting communication as an essential relational factor for care safety. The most predominant functional aspects were physical care environment, structured protocols, and the performance of professionals in the care process. Conclusion: Communication processes were predominant in relational aspects and were decisive for functional aspects, with emphasis on the performance of professionals in the care process. RESUMO OBJETIVO: Avaliar se adolescentes de minorias sexuais que iniciaram a profilaxia pré-exposição sexual (PrEP) em organizações comunitárias (OC) apresentam maior vulnerabilidade social e ao HIV em comparação com adolescentes em PrEP de um serviço de saúde convencional. Além disso, avaliar se esses adolescentes tiveram um acesso mais oportuno à profilaxia. MÉTODOS: Estudo demonstrativo da efetividade de PrEP, realizado na cidade de São Paulo, em duas OC, localizadas no centro (OC-centro) e na periferia (OC-periferia), e em um serviço convencional de testagem para o HIV (CTA-centro). Foram elegíveis para PrEP, entre 2020 e 2022, adolescentes homens cisgêneros que fazem sexo com homens (aHSH), travestis, mulheres transexuais e pessoas transfemininas (aTTrans), de 15 a 19 anos, HIV-negativos e com práticas de maior risco para o HIV. Indicadores de acesso oportuno e de vulnerabilidades dos adolescentes iniciando PrEP nas OC foram analisados, tendo por referência o CTA-centro e empregando regressão logística multinomial. RESULTADOS: 608 adolescentes iniciaram PrEP nas OC e CTA-Centro. Adolescentes das OC estiveram associados a um menor tempo de início de PrEP (1–7 dias; OC-periferia: ORa = 2,91; IC95% 1,22–6,92; OC-centro: ORa = 1,91; IC95% 1,10–3,31); e a um menor IDH de moradia (OC-centro: ORa = 0,97; IC95% 0,94–1,00; OC-periferia: ORa = 0,82; IC95% 0,78–0,86). Na OC-periferia houve aumento na chance de os adolescentes serem mais jovens (ORa = 3,06; IC95% 1,63–5,75) e morarem mais próximos ao serviço (ORa = 0,82; IC95% 0,78–0,86, média 7,8 km). Enquanto adolescentes da OC-centro estiveram associados ao maior conhecimento prévio de PrEP (ORa = 2,01; IC95% 1,10–3,91) e a alta percepção de risco (ORa = 2,02; IC95% 1,18–3,44). Não estiveram associadas aos adolescentes das OC as práticas sexuais de maior risco e as situações de vulnerabilidade ao HIV. CONCLUSÕES: A oferta de PrEP nas OC facilitou o acesso de adolescentes vulnerabilizados e pode contribuir para reduzir inequidades. ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether adolescents from sexual minorities who initiated pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in community-based organizations (COs) are more socially and HIV-vulnerable compared with their counterparts from a conventional health service. In addition, to evaluate whether these adolescents had more timely access to prophylaxis METHODS: A PrEP demonstration study was conducted in the city of São Paulo in two COs, located in the center (CO-center) and the outskirts (CO-outskirts), and a conventional HIV testing service (CTA-center). Between 2020 and 2022, cisgender male adolescents who have sex with men (aMSM), transgender and gender diverse adolescents (aTTrans) aged 15 to 19 years, HIV-negative, with higher-risk practices for HIV were eligible for PrEP. Indicators of timely access and vulnerabilities of adolescents initiating PrEP in COs were analyzed using CTA-center as a reference and multinomial logistic regression. RESULTS: 608 adolescents initiated PrEP in COs and CTA-center. Adolescents from COs were associated with a shorter time to PrEP initiation (1–7 days; CO-outskirts: ORa = 2.91; 95%CI 1.22–6.92; CO-center: ORa = 1.91; 95%CI 1.10–3.31); and a lower housing Human Development Index (HDI) (CO-center: ORa = 0.97; 95%CI 0.94–1.00; CO-outskirts: ORa = 0.82; 95%CI 0.78–0.86). In CO-outskirts, there was an increased chance of adolescents being younger (ORa = 3.06; 95%CI 1.63–5.75) and living closer to the service (ORa = 0.82; 95%CI 0.78–0.86, mean 7.8 km). While adolescents from the CO-center were associated with greater prior knowledge of PrEP (ORa = 2.01; 95%CI 1.10–3.91) and high-risk perception (ORa = 2.02; 95%CI 1.18–3.44), adolescents from the COs were not associated with higher-risk sexual practices and situations of vulnerability to HIV. CONCLUSION: The provision of PrEP in the COs facilitated access for vulnerable adolescents and may contribute to reducing inequities. RESUMO OBJETIVO: Analisar os impactos dos sistemas de opressão intersectados no continuum do cuidado de profilaxia pré-exposição sexual (CCPrEP) entre gays, bissexuais e outros homens que fazem sexo com homens (aGBHSH) e como estes são identificados e tratados por profissionais de saúde (PS), visando o cuidado à saúde sexual e prevenção do HIV. MÉTODOS: Estudo de investigação qualitativa integrado a uma pesquisa de coorte com aGBHSH e mulheres transexuais e travestis (aMTrT) em uso de PrEP. Foram analisados dados produzidos na cidade de São Paulo, integrando 16 entrevistas com aGBHSH e oito com PS. O referencial teórico metodológico se orientou pela categorização interativa de análise temática com enquadramento interseccional. RESULTADOS: Os conhecimentos sobre PrEP dos aGBHSH são afetados pelos efeitos negativos dos sistemas de opressão, sobretudo entre adolescentes negros que adquirem conhecimento de forma menos técnica quando comparados aos brancos. A maioria dos profissionais enxerga as opressões e as suas consequências, e confere protagonismo ao racismo, mas poucos articulam os diferentes marcadores sociais que potencializam barreiras para o sucesso do CCPrEP. CONCLUSÕES: As opressões sociais impactam o sucesso do CCPrEP de diferentes maneiras. Os PS são centrais para mitigação e não propagação dessas experiências negativas dentro do serviço de saúde e no acesso, uso e adesão à PrEP. ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: To analyze the impact of intersecting systems of oppression on the continuum of PrEP care among adolescent gays, bisexuals, and other men who have sex with men (aGBMSM), and to examine how health professionals (HP) identify and address these challenges to provide sexual health care and HIV prevention. METHODS: This qualitative exploratory study was part of a cohort research project involving aGBMSM, travesties, and transgender women (aTrTW) using PrEP. Data analyzed consisted of 16 interviews with aGBMSM and eight with health professionals (HPs) in São Paulo study site. The methodological and theoretical framework for the interactive categorization of thematic analysis was based on an intersectional approach. RESULTS: The knowledge of aGBMSM about PrEP was influenced by the adverse effects of systems of oppression, particularly among Black adolescents, who acquired knowledge in a less technical manner compared to White adolescents. Most professionals recognized oppression and its impact on the PrEP care continuum (PrEPCC), especially noting the presence of racism. However, few articulated how different social markers compound barriers to the success of the PrEPCC. CONCLUSION: Social oppression affects the success of the PrEP care continuum (PrEPCC) in multiple ways. Health professionals (HPs) play a crucial role in mitigating and not perpetuating these negative experiences within health services, as well as in PrEP access, use, and adherence. RESUMO A dança em cadeira de rodas (DCR) é uma modalidade praticada principalmente por pessoas com deficiência física. No Brasil, é uma modalidade emergente que carece de investigação e sistematização. Assim, o objetivo do presente estudo foi, por meio de uma revisão narrativa da literatura, identificar, analisar e sistematizar os estudos existentes sobre os efeitos da DCR na saúde e qualidade de vida de pessoas com deficiência física. As pesquisas foram conduzidas em bases de dados especializadas, Catálogo de Teses e Dissertações da Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (Capes) e em bibliotecas digitais de teses e dissertações de inúmeras instituições de ensino superior. Estudos elegíveis incluíram apenas pessoas com deficiência física, assim como tratavam dos efeitos da DCR na saúde e qualidade de vida. Um total de oito estudos foram incluídos na síntese qualitativa. A maior parte dos estudos apresentou uma abordagem qualitativa e delineamento transversal. É possível concluir que a DCR pode trazer inúmeros benefícios para a saúde física, para o funcionamento psicossocial e para a qualidade de vida de pessoas com deficiência física.

ABSTRACT Wheelchair dancing (DCR) is an activity practised mainly by people with physical disabilities. In Brazil, it is an emerging activity lacking investigation and systematisation. Thus, the objective of the present study was, through a narrative review of the literature, to identify, analyse and systematise the existing studies about the effects of DCR on the health and quality of life of people with physical disabilities. The research was driven in specialised databases, the Theses and Dissertations Catalog of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), and digital libraries of theses and dissertations from numerous higher education institutions. Eligible studies included only people with physical disabilities, as well as dealing with the effects of DCR on health and quality of life. A total of eight studies were included in the qualitative synthesis. Most of the studies had a qualitative approach and cross-sectional design. It is possible to conclude that DCR can bring countless benefits to the physical health, psychosocial functioning and quality of life of people with physical disabilities.

Resumen El objetivo de este estudio fue observar la eficacia anestésica del bloqueo del nervio alveolar en nueve pacientes que CBCT diagnosticó canal retromolar unilateral en un abordaje de boca dividida doble ciego. Las evaluaciones de la respuesta del paciente a los estímulos térmicos (prueba de vitalidad pulpar) y de presión (compresión de los tejidos blandos) se realizaron antes y 5 minutos después del procedimiento de bloqueo del nervio alveolar inferior, utilizando tanto la escala analógica visual (VAS) como los cuestionarios de dolor de Mc Gill ( McG). El porcentaje medio de respuesta de los pacientes disminuyó tras el bloqueo del nervio alveolar, según EVA y McG, y fue estadísticamente similar entre hemimandíbulas con y sin canal retromolar (Wilcoxon>0,05); sin embargo, aquellos sin canal retromolar presentaron mayor reducción en la respuesta del paciente en 6 de 9 casos. Por lo tanto, el canal retromolar no es un factor determinante del fracaso del bloqueo del nervio alveolar inferior.

Abstract The aim of this study was to observed the anesthetic efficacy of the alveolar nerve block on nine patients that CBCT diagnosed unilateral retromolar canal on a double-blind, split-mouth approach. The assessments of patient response to thermal (pulp vitality test) and pressure (compression of soft tissue) stimuli were carried out before and 5 minutes after the inferior alveolar nerve block procedure, using both visual analog scale (VAS) and Mc Gill pain questionnaires (McG). The mean percentage of patient response decreased after alveolar nerve block, according to both VAS and McG, and was statistically similar among hemi mandibles with and without retromolar canal (Wilcoxon>0.05); however, those without retromolar canal presented greater reduction in patient response in 6 out of 9 cases. Therefore, the retromolar canal is not a determinant factor of inferior alveolar nerve block failure.

Diethylene glycol is an extremely toxic substance to humans. Recently, cases of beer contamination in Brazil have raised awareness of the need for developing simple screening methods to evaluate this type of compound. This research developed a liquid-liquid extraction with low-temperature partitioning technique to determine diethylene glycol in beer via gas chromatography. Employing a flame-ionization detector simplifies the method, lowers its cost and therefore, it can be used as screening step to assess the possibility of contamination. A gas chromatograph coupled to a mass spectrometer would be used only for a confirmatory analysis. The optimized method was validated for the main figures of merit, and it proved to be adequate, with good values of recovery rate (94-106%), limit of detection (3.0 mg L-1), and quantification (10.0 mg L-1). Accuracy, in terms of repeatability and intermediate accuracy, showed variation coefficients lower than or equal to 20%.
