ABSTRACT Wild birds have great prominence in the transmission of diseases to humans, mainly due to their ease of access to human populations, raising concerns about the potential impact of that proximity on public health. The present study reports ARV and PBV occurrence in wild birds from an environmental protection area in the Amazon biome, in Pará state, Brazil. We obtained 155 fecal specimens from 47 species of wild birds for RNA extraction, ARV and PBV detection utilizing molecular methods, nucleotide sequencing, and phylogenetic analysis. ARV prevalence was 0.6% (1/155), being positive in an individual of Myrmotherula longipennis, and PBV prevalence was 1.29% (2/155), affecting two individuals of Guira guira. The PBV strains were assigned to genogroup I based on phylogenetic analysis, and they shared a strong phylogenetic link with strains isolated from different geographic locations. The ARV strain was more closely related to strains that had previously circulated in the same region. The presence of ARV and PBV in this habitat suggests that infection cycles of these agents occur naturally in the wild ecosystem, potentially triggering transmission events between bird species and humans. This is the first study on ARV detection in wild birds in Brazil and the first report on the occurrence of PBV in wild Guira guira. Additional studies are required to determine the epidemiology, origin, evolution, and emergence of new potentially pathogenic viruses in the Amazon.

RESUMO As aves silvestres têm grande destaque na transmissão de doenças ao homem, principalmente pela facilidade de acesso à população humana, levantando preocupações sobre o potencial impacto dessa proximidade no contexto da saúde pública. O presente estudo relata a ocorrência de ARV e PBV em aves silvestres de uma área de proteção ambiental no bioma Amazônico. Obtivemos 155 espécimes fecais de 47 espécies de aves silvestres, que foram submetidos a extração de RNA, detecção de ARV e PBV por técnicas moleculares, sequenciamento nucleotídico e análise filogenética. A prevalência de infecção por ARV foi 0,6% (1/155), sendo positivo em um indivíduo de Myrmotherula longipennis, e a prevalência de PBV foi 1,29% (2/155), afetando dois insdivíduos de Guira guira. A análise filogenética agrupou as cepas de PBV no genogrupo I, mostrando intensa relação filogenética com cepas isoladas de outras regiões geográficas. A cepa de ARV esteve mais relacionada filogeneticamente a cepas previamente circulantes na mesma região. Este é o primeiro estudo sobre detecção de ARV em aves silvestres no Brasil e o primeiro relato sobre a ocorrência de PBV em Guira guira. A circulação de ARV e PBV nesse ambiente demonstra que os ciclos desses agentes estão ocorrendo de forma natural no ecossistema silvestre, o que pode desencadear possíveis eventos de transmissão entre as espécies aviárias e humanos. Estudos adicionais são necessários para determinar a epidemiologia, origem, evolução e surgimento de novos vírus potencialmente patogênicos na Amazônia.

Abstract Introduction: Chronic kidney disease is usually asymptomatic, and its diagnosis depends on laboratory tests, with emphasis on serum creatinine and proteinuria. Objective: To assess knowledge on the role of serum creatinine as a biomarker of kidney function in a sample of the Brazilian population. Method: Cross-sectional observational study conducted in São Paulo (SP, Brazil), in which a random adult population was interviewed. Results: A total of 1138 subjects were interviewed, with a median age of 36 years old (27–52); 55.1% were female. Regarding the “creatinine” biomarker, 40.6% stated they had never performed such a test. When asked about their knowledge on the usefulness of this exam, only 19.6% knew its function. The other responses were “I don’t know” (71.6%), evaluating heart function (0.9%) and liver function (7.8%). Of those who reported they had already taken a creatinine test, only 29.4% correctly identified the role of creatinine. When dividing the groups into “knows” and “does not know” the function of creatinine, a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) was observed regarding level of education, female sex, being a healthcare student/worker, having ever measured creatinine, knowing someone with kidney disease and older age. In the multivariate analysis, the main variable related to knowing the creatinine role was having previously taken the test (OR 5.16; 95% CI 3.16–8.43, p < 0.001). Conclusion: There is a significant lack of knowledge about creatinine and its use in checkups. The results indicate that greater efforts are needed from healthcare professionals to raise awareness on the role of serum creatinine.

Resumo Introdução: A doença renal crônica costuma ser assintomática e seu diagnóstico depende da realização de exames laboratoriais, com destaque para a creatinina sérica e pesquisa de proteinúria. Objetivo: Avaliar em uma amostra da população brasileira o conhecimento sobre o papel da creatinina sérica como marcador de função renal. Método: Estudo observacional transversal realizado na cidade de São Paulo (SP, Brasil), em que foi entrevistada uma população adulta aleatória. Resultados: Foram entrevistados 1138 indivíduos, com idade mediana de 36 anos (27–52); 55,1% do sexo feminino. Com relação ao marcador “creatinina”, 40,6% afirmaram que nunca realizaram tal dosagem. Quando questionados quanto ao conhecimento sobre a utilidade desse exame, somente 19,6% sabiam a sua função. As outras respostas foram “não sei” (71,6%), avaliar o funcionamento do coração (0,9%) e fígado (7,8%). Dos que afirmaram já terem realizado o exame de creatinina, somente 29,4% acertaram a função da creatinina. Ao dividir os grupos em “sabe” e “não sabe” a função da creatinina, percebeu-se diferença estatisticamente significante (p < 0,05) em relação ao grau de escolaridade, sexo feminino, ser aluno/trabalhador da saúde, ter dosado creatinina alguma vez, conhecer alguém com doença renal e maior idade. Na análise multivariada, a principal variável relacionada com conhecer a função da creatinina foi ter realizado o exame anteriormente (OR 5,16; IC 95% 3,16–8,43, p < 0,001). Conclusão: Há grande desconhecimento sobre a creatinina e seu uso em check-ups. Os resultados indicam que é necessário maior esforço por parte dos profissionais de saúde para divulgar o papel da creatinina sérica.

Abstract This article aims to understand, by using Photovoice, the representations of bulling among high school adolescents. This is a qualitative study, conducted with 54 adolescents from the public school system of the state of Paraná, organized into six focus groups. The data were collected using the Photovoice participatory technique and submitted to content analysis proposed by Bardin. Three categories emerged from the data analysis: “Esthetic, homophobic, and gender bullying: subversive strategies”, “The harmful effects of bullying”, and “Interdisciplinary dialogue as a strategy to prevent and combat bullying.” With the results, it was possible to evidence that the practice of bullying happens from dissonances between aggressors and victims, with insults to the condition of body conformation, sexual orientation, gender identity, among others. For this reason, it is necessary to enable articulated actions between education and health for dialogue and listening about bullying in the school community, with a view to coping with it, prevent it, and protect against it, seeking above all the respect and appreciation of differences.

Resumo Este artigo tem como objetivo compreender, pelo uso do Photovoice, as representações de bullying presentes entre adolescentes escolares do ensino médio. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, realizado com 54 adolescentes da rede pública de ensino do estado do Paraná, organizados em seis grupos focais. Os dados foram coletados mediante a técnica participativa Photovoice e submetidos à análise de conteúdo proposta por Bardin. Da análise dos dados emergiram três categorias: “Bullying estético, homofóbico e de gênero: estratégias subversivas”, “Os efeitos danosos do bullying” e “O diálogo interdisciplinar como estratégia de prevenção e combate ao bullying”. Com os resultados, foi possível evidenciar que a prática do bullying acontece a partir das dissonâncias entre agressores e vítimas, com insultos à condição de conformação corporal, orientação sexual, identidade de gênero, entre outros. Por essa razão, é preciso viabilizar ações articuladas entre educação e saúde para o diálogo e escuta a respeito do bullying na comunidade escolar, com vistas a seu enfrentamento, prevenção e proteção, almejando, sobretudo, o respeito e valorização das diferenças.

ABSTRACT: The cryopreservation of plant germplasm at ultralow temperatures is an alternative technique for the long-term storage of seeds of the genus Coffea sp. However, for this technique to be successful, cell integrity must be maintained at all stages of the process on the basis of scientific research. The present study investigated validated cryopreservation protocols for Coffea arabica L. seeds and evaluate the effects on the physiological and biochemical characteristics of the seeds at each stage of the process. Seeds were dried on silica gel or with saturated saline solution, precooled or not in a biofreezer, immersed in nitrogen, and reheated in a water bath. After each of these steps, the physiological and biochemical quality of the seeds was determined. Pre-cooling is a step that can be dispensed with in the cryopreservation of Coffea arabica seeds, direct immersion in liquid nitrogen being more indicated. Coffea arabica L. seeds tolerate cryopreservation after rapid drying in silica gel up to water contents of 17 or 20% (wb), with greater survival at 17%. The enzyme activities of catalase, polyphenol oxidase and peroxidase are indicators of the quality of C. arabica L. seeds subjected to cryopreservation.

RESUMO: A criopreservação de germoplasma vegetal em temperaturas ultrabaixas é uma alternativa para o armazenamento em longo prazo de sementes do gênero Coffea sp. Entretanto, para que essa técnica apresente sucesso, a realização de pesquisas que garantam a manutenção da integridade celular em todas as etapas do processo é de fundamental importância. O objetivo com o presente trabalho foi investigar protocolos de criopreservação validados para sementes de Coffea arabica L., avaliando separadamente, os efeitos sobre as características fisiológicas e bioquímicas das sementes, em cada etapa do processo. As sementes foram secadas em sílica gel ou em solução salina saturada, submetidas ou não ao pré-resfriamento em biocongelador, em seguida imersas no nitrogênio e reaquecidas em banho-maria. Após cada uma dessas etapas, a qualidade fisiológica e bioquímica das sementes foi determinada. O pré-resfriamento é uma etapa que pode ser dispensada na criopreservação de sementes de Coffea arabica, sendo mais indicada a imersão direta em nitrogênio líquido. Sementes de Coffea arabica L. toleram a criopreservação após secagem rápida em sílica gel até teores de água de 17 ou 20% (wb), com maior sobrevivência a 17%. A atividade das enzimas catalase, polifenoloxidase e peroxidase são indicadoras da qualidade de sementes de Coffea arabica L. submetidas à criopreservação.

Abstract Background The six-minute walk test (6MWT) is commonly used to evaluate heart failure (HF) patients. However, several clinical factors can influence the distance walked in the test. Signal-morphology impedance cardiography (SM-ICG) is a useful tool to noninvasively assess hemodynamics. Objective This study aimed to compare cardiac output (CO), heart rate (HR), and stroke volume (SV) acceleration and deceleration responses to 6MWT in individuals with HF and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and healthy controls. Methods This is a cross-sectional observational study. CO, HR, SV and cardiac index (CI) were evaluated before, during, and after the 6MWT assessed by SM-ICG. The level of significance adopted in the statistical analysis was 5%. Results Twenty-seven participants were included (13 HFrEF and 14 healthy controls). CO and HR acceleration significantly differed between groups (p<0.01; p=0.039, respectively). We found significant differences in SV, CO and CI between groups (p<0.01). Linear regression showed an impaired SV contribution to CO change in HFrEF group (22.9% versus 57.4%). Conclusion The main finding of the study was that individuals with HFrEF showed lower CO and HR acceleration values during the submaximal exercise test compared to healthy controls. This may indicate an imbalance in the autonomic response to exercise in this condition.

Resumo Fundamento O Teste de Caminhada de seis Minutos (TC6M) é comumente usado para avaliar pacientes com insuficiência cardíaca. No entanto, vários fatores clínicos podem influenciar a distância percorrida pelos pacientes no teste. A cardiografia de impedância (CI) na avaliação morfológica é uma ferramenta útil para avaliar a hemodinâmica cardíaca de maneira não invasiva. Objetivo Este estudo teve como objetivo comparar as respostas de aceleração e desaceleração do Débito Cardíaco (DC), da Frequência Cardíaca (FC), e do Volume Sistólico (VS) ao TC6M de indivíduos com insuficiência cardíaca e fração de ejeção reduzida (ICFEr) com as de controles sadios. Métodos Este é um estudo transversal observacional. O DC, a FC, o VS e o Índice Cardíaco (IC) foram avaliados antes, durante e após o TC6M por CI. O nível de significância adotado na análise estatística foi 5%. Resultados Foram incluídos 27 participantes (13 com ICFEr e 14 controles sadios). A aceleração do DC e da FC foi significativamente diferente entre os grupos (p<0,01 e p=0,039, respectivamente). Encontramos diferenças significativas no VS, no DC e no IC entre os grupos (p<0,01). A regressão linear mostrou uma contribuição deficiente do VS à mudança no DC no grupo com ICFEr (22,9% versus 57,4%). Conclusão O principal resultado deste estudo foi o fato de que indivíduos com ICFEr apresentaram valores mais baixos de aceleração do DC e da FC durante o teste de exercício submáximo em comparação a controles sadios. Isso pode indicar um desequilíbrio na resposta autonômica ao exercício nessa condição.

Resumo O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar índices de competição dependentes da distância e definir um raio de influência competitiva entre árvores em um fragmento de Mata Atlântica sob recuperação florestal. A área em estudo possui 2,53ha, na qual foi realizado o inventário com intensidade amostral de 15,81%. Avaliaram-se três índices de competição e vinte distâncias para o raio de competição (1, 2, 3... e 20 m). O índice IC3, que relaciona o DAP de árvores competidoras com a aquele da árvore objetivo multiplicado pela distância entre as mesmas somado a uma unidade, se mostrou o mais adequado para representar a competição. Esse índice se correlacionou mais fortemente com os atributos biométricos, apresentou fundamentação biológica e a menor variabilidade com o aumento do raio de competição. Os índices de competição e suas respectivas variabilidades tenderam à estabilização a partir do raio de competição de, aproximadamente, 6 m. Conclui-se que o índice IC3 e o raio de competição de 6m são indicados para análises sobre relações entre a competitividade e aspectos biométricos no local de estudo.

Abstract This research aimed to evaluate distance-dependent competition indices and defining a radius of competitive influence among trees in an Atlantic Forest fragment under forest recovery. The study area has 2.53 ha, in which the inventory was carried out with a sampling intensity of 15.81%. Three competition indices and twenty distances for the competition radius (1, 2, 3... and 20 m) were evaluated. IC3 index, which relates the DBH of competing trees with the target tree multiplied by the distance between them plus one unit, proved to be the most adequate to represent competition. This index was strongly correlated with biometric attributes, having biological support and the lowest variability when increasing the competition radius. Competition indices and their respective variability tended to stabilize from the competition radius at approximately 6 m. It is concluded that IC3 index and 6 m competition radius are suitable when analyzing the relationship between competitiveness and biometric attributes at the study site.

Resumo O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar alternativas para a modelagem hipsométrica generalista de eucalipto via regressão linear, com a inclusão de índices de competição independentes da distância como variável preditora. Os dados utilizados foram provenientes de 34 parcelas distribuídas em quatro unidades de manejo florestal com 72 meses de idade. Calcularam-se 7 índices de competição independentes da distância. Avaliou-se o desempenho preditivo de 16 modelos hipsométricos generalistas, sendo propostos 14 modelos de dupla entrada (DAP e índice de competição). Todas as equações geradas foram biologicamente consistentes. Diante da ausência de informações da altura de árvores dominantes, a modelagem generalista pode ser melhor viabilizada com a inclusão do índice IC4, que representa a área basal de árvores vizinhas competidoras. Conclui-se que a inclusão de índices de competição em modelos hipsométricos ampliam a capacidade de generalização de equações para talhões de eucalipto com distintas capacidades produtivas. O índice de competição IC4 favorece a qualidade de ajuste e desempenho preditivo da modelagem hipsométrica nos sítios estudados.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate alternatives for general hypsometric modeling of eucalypt through linear regression, with inclusion of distance-independent competition indices as a predictor variable. The data was collected from 34 plots distributed in four 72-month-old forest management units. Seven distance-independent competition indices were calculated. The study evaluated the predictive performance of 16 general hypsometric models, and 14 double-entry models (DAP and competition index) were proposed. All equations generated were biologically consistent. Given the lack of information on the height of dominant trees, general modeling can be better employed with inclusion of the IC4 index, which represents basal area of neighboring competing trees. It is concluded that the inclusion of competition indices in hypsometric models increases generalization capacity of equations for eucalyptus stands with different productive capacities. The IC4 competition index enhances fit quality and predictive performance of the hypsometric modeling in the study sites.

Resumen La suplementación surge como una estrategia simple para mejorar la productividad animal en sistemas que adoptan praderas diferidas de pasto como dieta básica. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar el efecto de los niveles de suplementación de harina de vaina de mezquite sobre la ingesta, la digestibilidad de los nutrientes y la ganancia de peso corporal (PC) de caprinos en pastoreo diferido. Treinta y cinco (35) caprinos machos (24.0 ± 2.9 kg PC) se distribuyeron en un diseño completamente al azar, con cinco tratamientos y siete repeticiones. Los tratamientos consistieron en un control de suplemento (0.05 % de PC de sal proteico-mineral) y niveles crecientes a 0.5; 1.0; 1.5 y 2.0 % de PC de suplementación con harina de vaina de mezquite. La ingesta de materia seca y nutrientes del forraje y la dieta total aumentaron linealmente (P<0.0001) en función de los niveles del suplemento. Se observó un efecto cuadrático (P<0.0001) para las variables de digestibilidad, excepto para el extracto etéreo y los carbohidratos no fibrosos, que presentaron un efecto lineal creciente (P<0.0001). Los niveles de suplementación aumentaron linealmente las variables de rendimiento (P<0.05). Se recomienda la suplementación del concentrado al 2.0 % de PC con harina de vaina de mezquite al 30 % en su composición para promover la reducción del ciclo productivo de los caprinos en praderas diferidas de pasto Urochloa.

Abstract Supplementation emerges as a simple strategy to improve animal productivity in systems that adopt deferred grass pasture as the basic diet. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of levels of supplementation of mesquite pod meal on intake, digestibility of nutrients, and body weight (BW) gain of goats in grazing deferred. Thirty-five (35) goat males (24.0 ± 2.9 kg BW) were distributed in a completely randomized design, with five treatments and seven replications. Treatments constituted a supplement control (0.05% BW of protein-mineral salt) and increasing levels at 0.5; 1.0; 1.5, and 2.0% BW of supplementation with mesquite pod meal. Dry matter intake and nutrients of the forage and total diet increased linearly (P<0.0001) as a function of the levels of the supplement. A quadratic effect was observed (P<0.0001) for the digestibility variables, except for ethereal extract and non-fiber carbohydrates, which presented an increasing linear effect (P<0.0001). Supplementation levels increased linearly on the performance variables (P<0.05). It is recommended the concentrate supplementation at 2.0% BW with mesquite pod meal at 30 % in its composition for promoting the reduction of the productive cycle of goats in deferred Urochloa grass pastures.

ABSTRACT Introduction: To date, 340 antigen-organized 43 blood group systems are recognized, being ABO, Rh, Kell, Duffy, Kidd, MNS and Diego the most clinically relevant. The aim of this study was to assess the distribution of alleles and genotypes of the blood group systems Rh, Kell, Duffy, Kidd, MNS and Diego in 810 blood donors registered in the hemotherapy unit in northwest Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil Methods: We evaluated the genetic variability of blood groups Rh (c.676G>C and c.307C>T), Kell (c.578C>T), Kidd (c.838A>G), Duffy (c.125A>G and c.l-67T>C), Diego (c.2561C>T) and MNS (c.143T>C) in 810 volunteer blood donors of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. The genetic profiling was performed through allelic discrimination assays using hydrolysis probes (TaqMan®) real-time PCR system. Results: The most frequent blood group genotypes found in our study population were: RHC*Cc (51.5%), RHC*ee (70.1%), FY*A/FY*B (49.3%), GATA -67T/T (93.5%), KEL*2/KEL*2 (93.4%), Jk*A/JK*B (53.2%) and DI*02/DI*02 (95.4%). Some statistical differences were observed on comparing the population of this study with populations from other states in Brazil, mainly with population of Minas Gerais, Bahia and Paraná, which showed some differences from the population of Porto Alegre, which was more similar to those of Santa Catarina and São Paulo Conclusion: The frequency of red blood cell polymorphisms in our study is different from that of blood donors in other regions of Brazil. The results showed the importance of extended genotyping in adequate blood screening and the existence of rare genotypes in Brazilian regular blood donors

ABSTRACT Introduction: Lymphopenia is a laboratory marker of poor prognosis and severity of disease in the SARS-CoV-2 infection. This study aims to describe the immune profile of a Brazilian population. Methods: A total of 121 consecutive patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) were analyzed between April and June 2020. Routine peripheral blood counts and multiparametric flow cytometry were performed on admission to assess lymphocytes and subsets (CD3, CD4, CD8). Demographic, clinical and laboratory data were collected from hospital sources. Results: The total of 116 patients included 63 (54.3%) males; 76 (62.8%) COVID-19 patients were divided, based on clinical characteristics and mechanical ventilation (MV) use, into moderate (n = 41; no MV) and severe (n = 35; MV) groups. The control group (n = 40) was comprised of patients with SARS of different etiologies. All patients had lymphopenia, with overall lymphocyte counts and their subsets considerably lower in severe patients, when compared to the moderate and controls. Patients with a high neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (> 15.2) and T-cell lymphopenia (CD3 < 593 cells/μL, CD4 < 326 cells/μL, CD8 < 121 cells/μL) had a higher risk of being intubated and progressing to death. A total of 39 patients (95.1%) in the moderate group and 54.3% (n = 19) in the severe group were discharged; 28 patients died. Conclusion: Laboratory assessment of the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio and T-cell subsets may be predictive of mortality and may be useful for stratifying COVID-19 patients.

Abstract Objective The interest in using 3D printing in the healthcare field has grown over the years, given its advantages and potential in the rapid manufacturing of personalized devices and implants with complex geometries. Thus, the aim of the present study was to compare the mechanical fixation behavior of a 3D-printed interference screw, produced by fused deposition modeling of polylactic acid (PLA) filament, with that of a titanium interference screw. Methods Eight deep flexor porcine tendons, approximately 8 mm wide and 9 cm long, were used as graft and fixed to a 40 pounds-per-cubic-foot (PCF) polyurethane block at each of its extremities. One group was fixed only with titanium interference screws (group 1) and the other only with 3D-printed PLA screws (BR 20 2021 018283-6 U2) (group 2). The tests were conducted using an EMIC DL 10000 electromechanical universal testing machine in axial traction mode. Results Group 1 (titanium) obtained peak force of 200 ± 7 N, with mean graft deformation of 8 ± 2 mm, and group 2 (PLA) obtained peak force of 300 ± 30 N, and mean graft deformation of 7 ± 3 mm. Both the titanium and PLA screws provided good graft fixation in the polyurethane block, with no slippage or apparent deformation. In all the samples, the test culminated in graft rupture, with around 20 mm of deformation in relation to the initial length. Conclusion The 3D-printed PLA screw provided good fixation, similar to that of its titanium counterpart, producing satisfactory and promising results.

Resumo Objetivo O interesse em utilizar a impressão 3D na área da saúde tem crescido ao longo dos anos, dadas as suas vantagens e o seu potencial na rápida fabricação de dispositivos e implantes personalizados com geometrias complexas. Assim, o objetivo do presente estudo foi comparar o comportamento de fixação mecânica de um parafuso de interferência impresso em 3D, produzido pela modelagem fundida de deposição do filamento de ácido polilático (PLA), com o de um parafuso de interferência de titânio. Métodos Oito tendões suínos flexores profundos, de aproximadamente 8 mm de largura e 9 cm de comprimento, foram utilizados como enxerto e fixados em um bloco de poliuretano de 40 PCF em cada uma de suas extremidades. Um grupo foi fixado apenas com parafusos de interferência de titânio (grupo 1) e o outro apenas com parafusos PLA impressos em 3D (BR 20 2021 018283-6 U2) (grupo 2). Os testes foram realizados utilizando uma máquina de teste universal eletromecânica EMIC DL 10.000 no modo de tração axial. Resultados O grupo 1 (titânio) obteve força máxima de 200 ± 7 N com deformação média do enxerto de 8 ± 2 mm, e a força máxima do grupo 2 (PLA) foi de 300 ± 30 N e deformação média do enxerto de 7 ± 3 mm. Ambos os parafusos de titânio e PLA forneceram boa fixação de enxerto no bloco de poliuretano, sem deslizamento ou deformação aparente. Em todas as amostras o teste culminou na ruptura do enxerto, com cerca de 20 mm de deformação em relação ao comprimento inicial. Conclusão O parafuso PLA impresso em 3D proporcionou boa fixação, semelhante à de sua contraparte de titânio, produzindo resultados satisfatórios e promissores.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The Band 3 is a red blood cell protein that carries the Dia and Dib antigens from the Diego blood system. The SLC4A1 gene encodes Band 3; Band 3 Memphis is a polymorphism of normal Band 3 and has two variants, but only the variant II carries the Dia antigen. Objectives: Describe the frequencies of the DI*A and DI*B alleles and the Band 3 Memphis among blood donors, sickle cell disease (SCD) patients and Amazonian Indians. Methods: A total of 427 blood samples were collected and separated into three groups: 206 unrelated blood donors, 90 patients with SCD and 131 Amazonian Indians. We performed DI*A/B, normal Band 3 and Band 3 Memphis genotyping, using the Polymerase Chain Reaction Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR–RFLP). Results: The frequency of the DI*A/DI*A genotype was 0.5% in blood donors and it was not found in other groups. The frequency of the DI*A/DI*B was higher in Amazonian Indians (33.6%) and the frequency of the DI*B/DI*B was highest in blood donors (92.2%). All 105 individuals tested were positive for the presence of normal Band 3 and of these individuals, only 5/105 (4.8%) presented the Band 3 Memphis mutation. Conclusion: We observed a higher frequency of the DI*B allele in blood donors and a low frequency of the DI*A/DI*A genotype in all groups studied. The Band 3 Memphis was found in a higher frequency in the blood donor group. Our findings highlight the importance of analyzing different population groups to gain a better understanding of the genetic association of blood group antigens.

ABSTRACT Some scientific evidence shows that military personnel, including lifeguard firefighters, with high levels of physical fitness may be able to perform their work tasks more efficiently and make the best decisions. The present work aimed to investigate the correlation between anthropometric variables and physical performance in lifeguard firefighters. The sample consisted of 105 men, lifeguard firefighters from the military fire department of the state of Rio de Janeiro. On the first visit, the following procedures were performed: a) completion of the par-Q and the Informed Consent Form; b) anthropometric and body composition measurements. On the second visit, the following tests were performed: 1) 20-meter sprint; 2) zigzag COD; 3) Running Anaerobic Sprint Test. Positive correlations were observed between abdominal perimeter and time in the 20-meter sprint, time in the zig-zag COD, total time in the Running Anaerobic Sprint Test; between waist-to-hip ratio and time in the 20-meter sprint, total time in the Running Anaerobic Sprint Test. Furthermore, negative correlations were observed between abdominal perimeter and velocity in the 20-meter sprint, velocity in the zig-zag COD; between waist-to-hip ratio and speed in the 20-meter sprint. However, no correlations were observed between the perimeter of the abdomen and the fatigue index; between waist-to-hip ratio and zig-zag time and speed COD, fatigue index. it was verified that, in lifeguard firefighters, high scores of abdominal circumference and waist-to-hip ratio negatively influence physical performance.

RESUMO Algumas evidências mostram que militares, dentre eles os bombeiros guarda-vidas, com elevados níveis de aptidão física podem ser capazes de executar suas tarefas laborais com maior eficiência e tomar as melhores decisões. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi investigar a correlação entre variáveis antropométricas e desempenho físico, em bombeiros guarda-vidas. A amostra foi composta por 105 homens, bombeiros guarda-vidas do corpo de bombeiros militares do estado do Rio de Janeiro. Foram observadas correlações positivas entre perímetro do abdômen e tempo no sprint de 20 metros, tempo no zig zag COD, tempo total no Running Anaerobic Sprint Test; entre relação cintura quadril e tempo no sprint de 20 metros, tempo total no Running Anaerobic Sprint Test. Além do mais, foram observadas correlações negativas entre perímetro do abdômen e velocidade no sprint de 20 metros, velocidade no zig zag COD; entre relação cintura quadril e velocidade no sprint de 20 metros. Entretanto, não foram observadas correlações entre perímetro do abdômen e índice de fadiga; entre relação cintura quadril e tempo e velocidade no zig zag COD, índice de fadiga. Verifica-se que, em bombeiros guarda-vidas, elevados escores de circunferência abdominal e relação cintura quadril influenciam, de forma negativa, no desempenho físico.

Abstract Background There is clinical and radiological overlap among demyelinating diseases. However, their pathophysiological mechanisms are different and carry distinct prognoses and treatment demands. Objective To investigate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of patients with myelin-oligodendrocyte glycoprotein associated disease (MOGAD), antibody against aquaporin-4(AQP-4)-immunoglobulin G-positive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (AQP4-IgG NMOSD), and double-seronegative patients. Methods A cross-sectional retrospective study was performed to analyze the topography and morphology of central nervous system (CNS) lesions. Two neuroradiologists consensually analyzed the brain, orbit, and spinal cord images. Results In total, 68 patients were enrolled in the study (25 with AQP4-IgG-positive NMOSD, 28 with MOGAD, and 15 double-seronegative patients). There were differences in clinical presentation among the groups. The MOGAD group had less brain involvement (39.2%) than the NMOSD group (p = 0.002), mostly in the subcortical/juxtacortical, the midbrain, the middle cerebellar peduncle, and the cerebellum. Double-seronegative patients had more brain involvement (80%) with larger and tumefactive lesion morphology. In addition, double-seronegative patients showed the longest optic neuritis (p = 0.006), which was more prevalent in the intracranial optic nerve compartment. AQP4-IgG-positive NMOSD optic neuritis had a predominant optic-chiasm location, and brain lesions mainly affected hypothalamic regions and the postrema area (MOGAD versus AQP4-IgG-positive NMOSD, p= 0 .013). Furthermore, this group had more spinal cord lesions (78.3%), and bright spotty lesions were a paramount finding to differentiate it from MOGAD (p = 0.003). Conclusion The pooled analysis of lesion topography, morphology, and signal intensity provides critical information to help clinicians form a timely differential diagnosis.

Resumo Antecedentes Há sobreposição clínica e radiológica entre as doenças desmielinizantes. No entanto, seus mecanismos fisiopatológicos são diferentes e apresentam prognósticos e demandas de tratamento distintos. Objetivo Investigar as características de imagens de RM dos pacientes com doença associada à glicoproteína de oligodendrócito de mielina (MOGAD), a doenças do espectro da neuromielite óptica positivas para antiaquaporina-4 imunoglobulina G (AQP4-IgG NMOSD), e pacientes duplamente soronegativos. Métodos Estudo retrospectivo e transversal para analisar as características e frequência das lesões do sistema nervoso central (SNC). Dois neurorradiologistas avaliaram consensualmente as imagens do cérebro, das órbitas e da medula espinhal. Resultados Ao todo, foram incluídos 68 pacientes(25 com AQP4-IgG NMOSD, 28 com MOGAD e 15 duplo-soronegativos). Há diferenças na apresentação clínica entre os grupos. O grupo MOGAD demonstrou menor frequência de comprometimento do cérebro (39.2%) comparado com o AQP4-IgG NMOSD (p = 0.002), com predomínio da distribuição das lesões nas regiões subcortical/justacortical, mesencéfalo, pedúnculos cerebelares médios e cerebelo. O grupo duplo-soronegativo demonstrou maior frequência de comprometimento do cérebro (80%), com lesões de maiores dimensões e com morfologia tumefeita, além de neurite óptica com maior extensão (p = 0.006). O grupo AQP4-IgG NMOSD demonstrou neurite óptica com predomínio na região óptico-quiasmática e as lesões encefálicas acometeram predominantemente as regiões hipotalâmica e área postrema (MOGAD versus AQP4-IgG NMOSD p = 0.013). Além disso, foram observadas mais lesões na medula espinhal (78.3%) e a presença da “bright spotty lesion” foi um achado primordial para a sua diferenciação com os pacientes MOGAD (p = 0.003). Conclusão A análise pormenorizada das características das lesões por RM dos pacientes com doenças desmielinizantes imunomediadas fornece informações fundamentais que auxiliam os médicos no diagnóstico diferencial em um momento oportuno.

Abstract The objective of this study was to find out if the revenue, received based on the SUS Table, is sufficient to cover the costs incurred, except for direct labor, in carrying out the Ergometric Test exam at the Onofre Lopes University Hospital (HUOL). In methodological terms, it is a case study, descriptive and with a qualitative approach. Informal interviews were carried out with the managers and employees of the service, and with those responsible for the operational and administrative support services. The results show that the unit cost calculated for carrying out the Ergometric Test at HUOL during 2018 was R$ 16.46 and that, compared to the transfer from SUS, there is a financial surplus in the amount of R$ 13, 54 per exam. During the research, it became evident that the cost management information controls in the institution are precarious, being done using several different systems. Finally, the study opened the discussion about the feasibility of providing health services and the possibility of sustainability and financial independence of the management company – Empresa Brasileira de Serviços Hospitalares – in relation to the subsidies received from the Union. Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi descobrir se a receita, recebida com base na Tabela SUS, é suficiente para cobrir os custos incorridos, com exceção da mão-de-obra direta, na realização do exame de Teste Ergométrico no Hospital Universitário Onofre Lopes (HUOL). Em termos metodológicos, trata-se de um estudo de caso, descritivo e de abordagem qualitativa. Foram realizadas entrevistas informais com os gestores e colaboradores do serviço, e com responsáveis pelos serviços de apoio operacional e administrativo. Os resultados apontam que o custo unitário apurado para a realização do Teste Ergométrico no HUOL durante o ano de 2018 foi de R$ 16,46 e que, em comparação com o repasse do SUS, há um superávit financeiro no valor de R$ 13,54 por exame. Durante a pesquisa, ficou evidente que os controles de informações gerenciais de custos na instituição são precários, sendo feitos através do uso de vários sistemas diferentes. Por fim, o estudo abriu a discussão acerca da viabilidade da prestação dos serviços de saúde e da possibilidade de sustentabilidade e independência financeira da empresa gestora – Empresa Brasileira de Serviços Hospitalares – em relação às subvenções recebidas da União. Resumen El objetivo de este estudio fue averiguar si los ingresos, recibidos con base en la Tabla SUS, son suficientes para cubrir los costos incurridos, con excepción de la mano de obra directa, en la realización del examen de Prueba Ergométrica en el Hospital Universitario Onofre Lopes (HUOL). En términos metodológicos, se trata de un estudio de caso, descriptivo y con enfoque cualitativo. Se realizaron entrevistas informales con los gerentes y empleados del servicio, y con los responsables de los servicios de apoyo operativo y administrativo. Los resultados muestran que el costo unitario calculado para la realización de la Prueba Ergométrica en el HUOL durante 2018 fue de R$ 16,46 y que, frente a la transferencia del SUS, hay un superávit financiero de R$ 13,54 por examen. Durante la investigación se evidenció que los controles de información de gestión de costos en la institución son precarios, realizándose mediante el uso de varios sistemas diferentes. Finalmente, el estudio abrió la discusión sobre la factibilidad de prestación de servicios de salud y la posibilidad de sostenibilidad e independencia financiera de la empresa gestora —Empresa Brasileira de Serviços Hospitalares— en relación con los subsidios recibidos de la Unión. Résumé L'objectif de cette étude était de savoir si le revenu, perçu sur la base du tableau SUS, est suffisant pour couvrir les coûts encourus, à l'exception de la main-d'œuvre directe, pour la réalisation de l'examen du test ergométrique à l'hôpital universitaire Onofre Lopes (HOOL). Sur le plan méthodologique, il s'agit d'une étude de cas, descriptive et avec une approche qualitative. Des entrevues informelles ont été menées auprès des gestionnaires et des employés du service, ainsi qu'auprès des responsables des services de soutien opérationnel et administratif. Les résultats montrent que le coût unitaire calculé pour effectuer le test ergométrique à HUOL en 2018 était de 16,46 R$ et que, par rapport au transfert SUS, il y a un excédent financier de 13,54 R$ par examen. Au cours de l'enquête, il a été démontré que les contrôles de l'information sur la gestion des coûts dans l'établissement sont précaires, étant effectués au moyen de plusieurs systèmes différents. Finalement, l'étude a ouvert la discussion sur la faisabilité de fournir des services de santé et la possibilité de pérennité et d'indépendance financière de la société de gestion – Empresa Brasileira de Serviços Hospitalares – par rapport aux subventions reçues de l'Union.
