ABSTRACT: The parasitic fauna of Podocnemididae species is of great relevance to understanding the ecological relationships of the organisms in this genus. The parasites can have a symbiotic relationship with their hosts; however, environmental imbalances may change this relationship. Therefore, these parasites may become agents that generate zoonoses, especially in animals used by parasites as a food source. The aim of this study was to investigate the gastrointestinal parasitic fauna of specimens of Podocnemis unifilis. The animals were collected from the Tocantins and Javaés Rivers, both of which flow in the State of Tocantins, predominantly in the Cerrado territory. Samples of stomach and intestinal contents were fixed in 10% formalin buffered with sodium phosphate, transferred to 70% alcohol for analysis, and separated after 72 hours. Parasites were isolated and identified according to morphology and identification key. Four species of parasites were observed in 100% of specimens of P. unifilis, namely Nematophila grandis (Trematoda) and Paratractis hystrix, Paraorientatractis semiannulata, and Orientatractis leiperi (Nematoda). N. grandis was the only parasite that was not observed in the intestine; it appeared to adhere to the inner wall of the stomach. All nematodes were observed both in the stomach and intestine. These data expand the knowledge related to the P. unifilis parasitic fauna and the geographic distribution of these parasites in P. unifilis from the Tocantins and Javaés Rivers.

RESUMO: A fauna parasitológica das espécies de Podocnemididae é de grande relevância para o conhecimento das relações ecológicas desse grupo de vertebrados. Os parasitos podem ocorrer em simbiose com os seus hospedeiros sem causar danos, mas o desequilíbrio ambiental pode causar um desequilíbrio nessa relação e, assim, serem agentes geradores de zoonoses, especialmente em animais que são utilizados como recurso alimentar. Esta pesquisa fez o levantamento da fauna parasitária gastrointestinal de espécimes de Podocnemis unifilis. Os animais foram coletados no rio Tocantins e Javaés, ambos no Estado do Tocantins, em território predominante de Cerrado. As amostras de conteúdo estomacal e intestinal foram fixadas em formol a 10% tamponado em fosfato de sódio, transferidas para álcool 70% para análise e separação após 72 horas. Os parasitos foram separados e identificados de acordo com morfologia e chave de identificação. Foram encontradas quatro espécies de parasitos com prevalência em 100% dos espécimes de P. unifilis, sendo elas Nematophila grandis (Trematoda) e Paratractis hystrix, Paraorientatractis semiannulata e Orientatractis leiperi (Nematoda). Somente N. grandis não foi observado no intestino, sendo encontrado somente aderido à parede interna do estômago. Todos os nematoides foram observados no estômago e intestino. Esses dados ampliam o conhecimento sobre a fauna parasitária de P. unifilis, e aumentam o conhecimento sobre a distribuição geográfica desses parasitos em P. unifilis dos Rios Tocantins e Javaés.

ABSTRACT Naganishia albida (Cryptococcus albidus) is considered saprophytic fungi, and is rarely reported as a human pathogen. Cutaneous infections caused by non-neoformans cryptococcus are rare. We describe a case of an immunocompetent older male with cutaneous cryptococcosis caused by Naganishia albida following skin trauma, and conduct a literature review in PubMed, Lilacs, and Embase. Only six previous similar reports were found. The seven cases (including ours) were widely distributed geographically (Brazil, the US, the UK, Hungary, South Korea, and Iran), all males, and their ages varied, ranging from 14 to 86 years. Four individuals had underlying skin diseases (Sezary Syndrome, psoriasis, and skin rash without etiology) plus potentially immunosuppressive underlying conditions (diabetes mellitus, kidney transplantation, and the use of etanercept, adalimumab, and methylprednisolone). Cutaneous presentation was polymorphic, with lesions characterized as warts, ulcers, plaques, and even macules. Two patients presented disseminated disease. Serum cryptococcal antigen was negative in six patients, and diagnosis was made by fungal culture in all. There is a lack of data on optimal antifungal treatment and outcomes.

ABSTRACT Management of nitrogen fertilization and light interception of pastures contributes to forage production in regions with low water availability. Therefore, the objective was to evaluate the effect of different nitrogen doses and light interception levels on the growth of Panicum maximum cv. Tanzania under different irrigation managements. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, using a factorial scheme (5 x 2 x 2), corresponding to five irrigation depths (40, 60, 80, 100, and 120% of actual evapotranspiration), two canopy light interception levels (90 and 95%), and two nitrogen doses (300 and 600 kg N ha-1 year-1). The highest biomass production occurs under irrigation with 120% of evapotranspiration. However, the best structural characteristics (tillering and number of leaves) occur with 100% of evapotranspiration, regardless of nitrogen dose and light interception level. Interruption of growth with 95% of incident light and fertilization with 600 kg N ha-1 year-1 promoted greater tillering, number of leaves and leaf length, regardless of the irrigation level. Tanzania grass management with an interruption of growth with 95% of incident light, 600 kg N ha-1 year-1, and irrigation with 80% of actual evapotranspiration led to tillering and number of leaves only 11% lower than the values found in the other treatments irrigated with 100% of actual evapotranspiration. Interruption of growth with 95% of incident light and fertilization with 600 kg N ha-1 year-1 improve the performance of Tanzania grass under deficit irrigation.

RESUMO O manejo da adubação nitrogenada e interceptação luminosa das pastagens contribuem para produção de forragem em regiões com baixa disponibilidade de água. Portanto, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito de diferentes doses de nitrogênio e níveis de interceptação luminosa no crescimento do capim Panicum maximum cv. Tanzânia sob diferentes manejos de irrigação. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, em esquema fatorial (5 x 2 x 2), relativo a cinco lâminas de irrigação (40, 60, 80, 100 e 120% da evapotranspiração real), dois níveis de interceptação de luz pelo dossel (90 e 95%) e duas doses de nitrogênio (300 e 600 kg N ha-1 ano-1). A maior produção de biomassa ocorre com 120% da evapotranspiração. Porém as melhores características estruturais (perfilhamento e número de folhas) ocorrem com 100% da evapotranspiração, independente da dose de nitrogênio e nível de interceptação luminosa. A interrupção do crescimento com 95% de luz incidente e a adubação com 600 kg N ha-1 ano-1 proporcionaram maior perfilhamento, número e comprimento de folhas do capim, independentemente da lâmina de irrigação. O capim Tanzânia com interrupção do crescimento com 95% da luz incidente, 600 kg N ha-1 ano-1 e irrigação com 80% da evapotranspiração obteve perfilhamento e número de folhas apenas 11% inferior aos outros tratamentos irrigados com 100% da evapotranspiração. A interrupção do crescimento com 95% da luz incidente e adubação com 600 kg N ha-1 ano-1 melhoram o desempenho do capim Tanzânia sob irrigação deficitária.

ABSTRACT The aim of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of native and exotic isolates of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in promoting the growth of micropropagated seedlings of Pseudobombax simplicifolium S. Robyns during the acclimatization phase. The experiment was conducted in the greenhouse in an entirely randomized design with three inoculation treatments; Entrophospora etunicata (autochthonous), Acaulospora longula (exotic) and a non-inoculated control group. Seedlings were acclimated in soil and vermiculite (2:1 v/v) in 10 repetitions for each treatment totaling 30 experimental plots. At the end of the experiment, mycorrhized P. simplicifolium seedlings presented better development than those not inoculated. Although the inoculum with native AMF of E. etunicata was more efficient in colonizing the plants, the increments in leaf area, fresh and dry biomass were similar to those provided by the exotic AMF species (A. longula). It is concluded that during the acclimatization phase, P. simplicifolium seedlings present great vegetative development when mycorrhized, regardless of the origin of the fungal isolates tested in this study.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a eficiência de isolados nativos e exóticos de fungos micorrízicos arbusculares (FMA) na promoção do crescimento de plântulas micropropagadas de Pseudobombax simplicifolium S. Robyns durante a fase de aclimatização. O experimento foi realizado em casa de vegetação em delineamento inteiramente casualizado em três tratamentos de inoculação; Entrophospora etunicata (autóctone), Acaulospora longula (exótico) e um grupo testemunha não inoculado. As plântulas foram aclimatizadas em solo e vermiculita (2:1 v/v) em 10 repetições para cada tratamento totalizando 30 parcelas experimentais. Ao final do experimento, mudas de P. simplicifolium micorrizadas apresentaram melhor desenvolvimento comparado às não inoculadas. Apesar do inóculo com FMA nativo de E. etunicata ter sido mais eficiente em colonizar as plantas, os incrementos na área foliar, biomassa fresca e seca foram similares aos proporcionados pela espécie exótica de FMA (A. longula). Conclui-se que durante a fase de aclimatização, mudas de P. simplicifolium têm o desenvolvimento vegetativo beneficiado pela micorrização, independente da origem dos isolados fúngicos testados nesse estudo.

Abstract The objective of this study was to formulate an experimental light-cured periodontal dressing containing alpha-humulene and to compare its physical, antimicrobial, and cytotoxicity properties with commercial gold standards (Barricaid® and Periobond®). Two periodontal dressing formulations were developed (a and b). The formulations were divided into 5 groups according to the alpha-humulene concentration as follows: Ea - control group, Ea1 - 1%, Ea5 - 5%, Ea10 - 10%, and Ea20 - 20%; Eb - control group, Eb1 - 1%, Eb5 - 5%, Eb10 - 10%, and Eb20 - 20%. Materials characterization was performed using the degree of conversion, cohesive strength, sorption, and solubility assays. Antimicrobial assay was performed using the modified direct contact test against E. faecalis and S. aureus. Cytotoxicity was assessed by the cell viability experiment using L929 fibroblasts. In general, the cohesive strength values of materials decreased as the alpha-humulene concentration increased. All the experimental dressings showed antimicrobial activity against both bacteria tested. Cell viability results for the Ea, Ea1, Eb, and Eb1 groups showed moderate cytotoxic effect. The formulations containing alpha-humulene showed similar behavior to the commercial references. Thus, formulations containing alpha-humulene have potential to be used as periodontal dressing.

OBJECTIVES: Strategic planning for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) care has dominated the agenda of medical services, which have been further restricted by the need for minimizing viral transmission. Risk is particularly relevant in relation to endoscopy procedures. This study aimed to describe a contingency plan for a tertiary academic cancer center, define a strategy to prioritize and postpone examinations, and evaluate the infection rate among healthcare workers (HCWs) in the endoscopy unit of the Cancer Institute of the State of São Paulo (ICESP). METHODS: We created a strategy to balance the risk of acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and to mitigate the effects of postponing endoscopic procedures in oncological patients. A retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data on all endoscopies between March and June 2020 compared with those during the same period in 2019 was carried out. All HCWs were interviewed to obtain clinical data and SARS-CoV-2 test results. RESULTS: During the COVID-19 outbreak, there was a reduction of 55% in endoscopy cases in total. Colonoscopy was the most affected modality. The total infection rate among all HCWs was 38%. None of the senior digestive endoscopists had COVID-19. However, all bronchoscopists had been infected. One of three fellows had a serological diagnosis of COVID-19. Two-thirds of all nurses were infected, whereas half of all technicians were infected. CONCLUSIONS: In this pandemic scenario, all endoscopy services must prioritize the procedures that will be performed. It was possible to maintain some endoscopic procedures, including those meant to provide nutritional access, tissue diagnosis, and endoscopic resection. Personal protective equipment (PPE) seems effective in preventing transmission of COVID-19 from patients to digestive endoscopists. These measures can be useful in planning, even for pandemics in the future.

Abstract Background: The increasingly frequent use of dermoscopy makes us think about the possibility of transfer of microorganisms, through the dermatoscope, between doctor and patients. Objectives: To identify the most frequent gram-positive cocci in dermatoscopes and smartphone adapters, as well as the resistance profile, and to evaluate the factors associated with a higher risk of bacterial contamination of the dermatoscopes. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with 118 dermatologists from Porto Alegre/Brazil between September 2017 and July 2018. Gram-positive cocci were identified by MALDI-TOF MS and habits of use of the dermatoscope were evaluated through an anonymous questionnaire. Results: Of the dermatoscopes analysed, 46.6% had growth of gram-positive cocci on the lens and 37.3% on the on/off button. The microorganisms most frequently found were S. epidermidis, S. hominis and S. warneri. Attending a hospital, using the dermatoscope at the hospital, with inpatients and in the intensive care unit were significantly associated with colonisation by gram-positive cocci. The highest resistance rates were observed for penicillin, erythromycin and sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim. Study limitations: The non-search of gram-negative bacilli, fungi and viruses. Moreover, the small number of adapters did not make it possible to better define if the frequency differences were statistically significant. Conclusion: Coagulase-negative staphylococci were frequently identified. S. aureus was detected only on the lens.

RESUMO: Relata-se um surto de intoxicação em bovinos por Stryphnodendron rotundifolium var. villosum (Benth.) Scalon no estado de Goiás, Brasil. De um rebanho composto por 80 bovinos, os quais consumiram frutos maduros da planta presente na pastagem, 12 animais adoeceram e morreram. Os sinais clínicos apresentados foram apatia, emagrecimento progressivo, andar cambaleante, pelo eriçado e fezes secas contendo sementes. Os principais achados de necropsia foram icterícia, fígado com padrão lobular e coloração alaranjada, rins aumentados e com amarelamento da medular e pré-estômagos com presença de cascas e sementes do fruto. Ao exame histopatológico, notou-se degeneração vacuolar e necrose no fígado e rins e degeneração vacuolar no rúmen, omaso, retículo e intestino. O diagnóstico da intoxicação por S. rotundifolium var. villosum baseou-se nos dados epidemiológicos, nos achados clínicos e nas alterações patológicas. Nossos resultados podem auxiliar na diferenciação entre a intoxicação por S. rotundifolium var. villosum e a intoxicação por outras plantas tóxicas de interesse pecuário.

ABSTRACT: This is a report on an outbreak of cattle poisoning by Stryphnodendron rotundifolium var. villosum (Benth.) Scalon in the state of Goiás in Brazil. In a herd of 80 cattle that consumed the mature fruit of this plant that was present in their pasture, 12 animals fell ill and died. The clinical signs that they presented were apathy, progressive weight loss, reeling, bristling, and dry stools containing seeds. The main necropsy findings were jaundice, an increased lobular pattern and orange coloration in their liver, enlarged kidneys with yellowish medullae, and pre-stomachs containing fruit peels and seeds. A histopathological examination revealed vacuolar degeneration and necrosis in the liver and kidneys and vacuolar degeneration in the rumen, omasum, reticulum, and intestine. The diagnosis of poisoning by S. rotundifolium var. villosum was based on epidemiological data, clinical findings, and pathological changes. Our results can aid in the differentiation between poisoning by S. rotundifolium var. villosum and poisoning by other toxic plants that are of interest to lifestock.

Abstract PVA cryogels are well established as candidate biomaterials for wound healing applications but are not themselves biodegradable or antimicrobial. Blending PVA with NaCMC (CMC) or gelatin (G) can increase the gel’s ability to swell and would introduce a degree of biodegradability. The incorporation of appropriate amounts of a natural antimicrobial/healing agents, such as honey (H), would contribute to the gels properties. The present work addresses the development and characterization of layered gels (PVA-H, PVA-CMC-H and PVA-G-H, with empty PVA, PVA-CMC, PVA-G gels presented as controls). The gels were characterized by FTIR, DSC, in vitro analysis of swelling and microbiological (S. aureus) effects. Addition of gelatin, NaCMC and honey to PVA diminished the PVA chains’ ability to pack into crystallites. Samples containing honey swelled less and presented higher weight loss/biodegradability than samples without honey. Only the honey-laden PVA-CMC and PVA-G presented activity against S. aureus.

Abstract Leishmaniasis is caused by protozoan parasites belonging to the genus Leishmania and includes cutaneous, mucocutaneous and visceral clinical forms. Drugs currently available for leishmaniasis treatment present high toxicity, and development of parasite resistance. Plants constitute an important source of compounds with leishmanicidal potential. This study aimed to evaluate the anti-Leishmania amazonensis activity of the terpenoid fraction of Eugenia pruniformis leaves (TF-EpL). TF-EpL was active against the promastigote and intracellular amastigote forms of L. amazonensis with IC50(24h) value of 43.60μg/mL and 44.77μg/mL, respectively. TF-EpL altered the cell cycle of the parasite, increasing 2.32-fold the cells in the Sub-G0/G1 phase. TF-EpL also changed the ΔΨm and increased ROS and the number of annexin-V-PI positive promastigotes, which suggests incidental death. β-sitosterol, ursolic acid, corosolic acid and asiatic acid were isolated from TF-EpL. The results showed the antileishmanial activity of E. pruniformis terpenoids and its potential for further studies as a source of new drugs for leishmaniasis.

Abstract The objective of this study was to assess the efficiency of a mixed arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) inoculum versus a single isolate to promote the seedling development of native Caatinga species: baraúna (Schinopsis brasiliensis Engl.) and juazeiro (Zizyphus joazeiro Mart.). The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, presenting a completely randomized design with four treatments (Control - not inoculated, inoculated with Claroideoglomus etunicatum, Acaulospora longula or a mix of C. etunicatum and A. longula) and seven replicates. The AMF inoculation promoted an increase in all growth variables of the two plant species, with increments above 100% in all inoculation treatments, and a significant reduction in the transplanting time of the seedlings to the field. We concluded that the AMF use under study in the mixed form is as beneficial as in the isolated form for Z. joazeiro and S. brasiliensis seedling production.

Abstract Breast cancer is the most frequent and lethal neoplastic disease among women worldwide. Psidium Guajava is a promising functional food against cancer, owing to a variety of bioactive compounds. This study aimed to evaluate the anticarcinogenic potential of Pedro Sato (PS), Hitigio (HI) and Tsumori (TS) guava cultivars fruit pulp extracts in MDA-MB-435 and MCF-7 human breast cancer cells. The antioxidant capacity of the extracts and their effect on cell viability, cell cycle and apoptosis were assessed. Additionally, the concentration of carotenoids, total phenolics, ascorbic acid and other physicochemical parameters were evaluated. PS pulp extract showed the highest in vitro antioxidative activity by all tested methods, as well as the highest content of lycopene and total phenolics, while TS pulp extract presented the highest concentration of β-carotene. After 48 hours treatment, all guava cultivars’ extracts caused reduction of MDA-MB-435 and MCF-7 cells viability, with PS and HI being the most effective extracts. All guava extracts caused MDA-MB-435 and MCF-7 cell count reduction in G0/G1 and G2/M phases and increased apoptosis. The present results strongly suggest that guava pulp exerts antiproliferative effect on breast adenocarcinoma cells.

Films of a poly(fluorene-bisthiophene) derivative, named PFBT, were electrodeposited onto indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes and their electrochromic and fluorescence properties were investigated. Such films displayed color variation from yellow, in the neutral state, to green, in the oxidized state, as shown by tracking of the CIE (Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage) 1931 xy chromaticity coordinates. PFBT films are fluorescent in the neutral state (E = 0.0 V vs. Ag/Ag+) with emission at 532 nm; however, upon oxidation at 0.85 V the photoluminescence intensity is significantly decreased. A solid-state electrochromic device was assembled using PFBT and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT-PSS) films and a polymer electrolyte. The device presented color variation from transmissive greenish-yellow to blue and reversible fluorescent properties upon switching between -1.5 to 1.5 V vs. PEDOT. Thus, the high contrast and stability both in electrochromism and electrofluorescence of the PFBT film and its device make them suitable for application in multifunctional optical devices.

RESUMO A adubação nitrogenada, em geral, minimiza os efeitos da salinidade às plantas, mas a ação mitigadora depende da espécie vegetal, cultivar, textura do solo e idade das plantas, entre outros fatores. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos da salinidade da água de irrigação e adubação nitrogenada na fisiologia e crescimento do milho (Zea mays) em solos com texturas diferentes. O experimento foi realizado em casa de vegetação em Fortaleza, CE, utilizando-se colunas de solo de policloreto de vinila - PVC (100 x 20 cm). O delineamento foi inteiramente casualizado usando o fatorial 2 x 2 x 4, referente a dois solos, um Argissolo Vermelho-Amarelo e um Neossolo Quartzarênico, doses de nitrogênio de 105 e 210 kg ha-1, sob irrigação com águas de salinidade 0,5, 2,0, 4,0 e 6,0 dS m-1, com quatro repetições. Com exceção do diâmetro do caule, a salinidade da água prejudicou o crescimento e as trocas gasosas foliares das plantas. O Argissolo proporcionou melhores respostas no crescimento e fisiologia em comparação ao Neossolo. As doses de nitrogênio não mitigaram as variáveis de crescimento, exceto a biomassa radicular. As trocas gasosas aumentaram com a maior dose de nitrogênio, sem interação com a salinidade.

ABSTRACT The nitrogen fertilization, in general, minimizes the effects of salinity on plants, but the mitigating action depends on plant species, cultivar, soil texture and plant age, among other factors. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of irrigation water salinity and nitrogen fertilization on maize physiology and growth (Zea mays) in soils with different textures. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse in Fortaleza City, CE, Brazil, in PVC soil columns (100 x 20 cm). The design was completely randomized using the factorial 2 x 2 x 4, referring to two soils, an Ultisol and a Quartzipsamment, nitrogen doses of 105 and 210 kg ha-1, under irrigation with saline water of 0.5, 2.0, 4.0 and 6.0 dS m-1, with four repetitions. With the exception of stem diameter, salinity of water impaired plant growth and leaf gas exchanges. The Ultisol provided better growth and physiological responses compared to the Quartzipsamment. The nitrogen doses did not mitigate growth variables except root biomass. The gas exchanges increased with the highest nitrogen dose, without interaction with the salinity.

RESUMO Objetivos: Comparar a viabilidade celular e a espessura do disco de LASIK confeccionado por três laseres de femtosegundo, em córneas humanas de banco de olhos. Métodos: Quarenta e cinco botões córneo-esclerais humanos de banco de olhos (15 córneas em cada grupo) foram examinados, após a criação de disco de LASIK com 120 mm de espessura, utilizando-se o iFS IntraLase® 150kHz (IL), o Femto LDV® Z6 (LDV), ou o Wavelight® FS200 200kHz (FS200). Tomografia de coerência óptica do seguimento anterior (OCT Visante®) foi usada para medir a espessura dos discos. A viabilidade celular foi avaliada por meio de imuno-histoquímica para apoptose dos ceratócitos, com anti-caspase 3. Resultados: O desvio padrão da espessura planejada do disco foi inferior a 10 mm em todos os grupos. Houve diferença estatisticamente significante da espessura do disco horizontalmente a +3,00 mm (p=0,0124), -0,5 mm (p=0,0082) e -1,00 mm (p=0,0425), a partir do vértice corneal, e a +0,5 mm (p=0,0240), a partir da borda do disco, em córneas tratadas por LDV e IL, e horizontalmente a -0,5 mm a partir do vértice corneal, entre LDV e FS200 (p=0,0082). A média de apoptose dos ceratócitos foi (13,09 ± 1,10), (15,59 ± 3,28) e (17,72 ± 1,49), em córneas tratadas pelo IL, FS200 e LDV, respectivamente (p<0,001). Conclusão: Todos os três laseres de femtosegundo estudados produziram disco de LASIK com predictibilidade de espessura. A média de apoptose dos ceratócitos foi baixa em todos os grupos.

ABSTRACT Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the corneal cell viability and thickness of LASIK flaps created by 3 femtosecond lasers in eye-bank human corneas. Methods: Forty-five eye-bank human sclerocorneal buttons (15 corneas in each group) were examined after the creation of 120 mm-thick laser-assisted keratomileusis (LASIK) flaps with 150kHz iFS IntraLase™ (IL), Z6 Femto LDV™ (LDV), or 200kHz Wavelight™ FS200 (FS200). The thickness of the flaps was measured using anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT; Visante™). Cell viability was blindly evaluated with immunohistochemistry for keratocyte apoptosis using anti-caspase 3 antibodies. Results: The standard deviation from the intended flap thickness was less than 10 mm in all the groups. There was a statistically significant difference in corneas treated with LDV and IL with regard to the flap thickness horizontally at +3.00 mm (p=0.0124), -0.5 mm (p=0.0082), and -1.00 mm (p=0.0425) from the corneal vertex and +0.5 mm from the flap edge (p=0.0240), and those treated with LDV and FS200 with regard to the flap thickness horizontally at -0.5 mm from the corneal vertex (p=0.0082). The mean keratocyte apoptosis numbers were 13.09 ± 1.10, 15.59 ± 3.28, and 17.72 ± 1.49 in corneas treated with IL, FS200, and LDV, respectively (p<0.001). Conclusion: All 3 assessed femtosecond lasers provided predictable LASIK flap thickness. The mean stromal keratocyte apoptosis number was low in all groups.
