Within our sense for living, we have a clear obligation to pay tribute and to continue the pathway set by those who have been the real leaders of Peruvian medicine. Consequently, this is a tribute to Dr. Julian Arce-Ramirez, a very famous and wellrespected Peruvian physician, a distinguished citizen, and a loyal supporter of every noble cause.

Leprosy is a transmissible disease that still can be found in Peru, specifically in some areas within the Peruvian Amazon jungle. Many times, the terminology used to describe relevant aspects of this disease is wrong, and some terms have been widely used since the middle ages. In this opinion article we will deal with three aspects in which both healthcare professionals and lay people continue using wrong terms and concepts.

La lepra es una enfermedad infectocontagiosa que aun se encuentra en el Perú especificamente en algunas regiones de la amazonía peruana. La terminologia utilizada para expresar aspectos relevantes de esta enfermedad son muchas veces erróneos y se vienen arrastrando desde la época del medioevo. En este artículo de opinión nos vamos a referir a tres aspectos en los que profesionales de la salud y los que no lo son, siguen utilizando términos y conceptos errados.
