RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar a influência da gestação e ordem de lactação nas concentrações séricas de proteínas, metabólitos, minerais e enzimas de vacas da raça Bonsmara de primeira, segunda e terceira ordem de lactação. A raça Bonsmara, originada na África do Sul, se destaca por sua tolerância ao calor, e caracteristicas produtivas, como a qualidade da carne, a alta fertilidade, precocidade sexual, facilidade ao parto e boa habilidade materna. Essas características tornam a raça uma alternativa genética para realização de cruzamentos com raças zebuínas. Foram colhidas amostras de sangue de 93 vacas, sendo 34 de primeira ordem de lactação, 29 de segunda ordem de lactação e 30 de terceira ordem de lactação. As amostras foram processadas em analisador automático multicanal, utilizando kits da Labtest Diagnóstica®. Para confrontar os valores entre as ordens de lactação optou-se pelo teste Kruskall-Wallis. Para comparar vacas gestantes e não gestantes dentro das ordens de lactação, foi utilizado o teste de Mann-Whitney. Dos constituintes analisados, a ordem de lactação influenciou significativamente apenas a concentração sérica de albumina (ALB) (p<0,0001). A gestação influenciou significativamente na relação A:G (p=0,034), nas vacas de terceira lactação, no colesterol (COL) (p=0,004), triglicérides (TRI) (p<0,0001), fósforo inorgânico (Pi) (p=0,033), ferro (Fe) (p=0,001), aspartato aminotransferase (AST) (p=0,018) e fosfatase alcalina (FAL) (p=0,039) nas de segunda ordem e no valor do grupo geral. A creatinina (Crea) (p<0,0001) foi influenciada somente no grupo geral. Conclui-se que a gestação e ordem de lactação influenciou significativamente na concentração de vários constituintes bioquímicos séricos de vacas da raça Bonsmara, em especial nas de segunda ordem de lactação.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the influence of gestation and lactation order on serum concentrations of proteins, metabolites, minerals, and enzymes in first-, second-, and third-lactation order Bonsmara cows. The Bonsmara breed, originated in South Africa, stands out for its tolerance to heat and productive characteristics, such as meat quality, high fertility, sexual precocity, ease of calving, and good maternal ability. These characteristics make the breed a genetic alternative for crossbreeding with zebu breeds. Blood samples were collected from 34, 29, and 30 first-, second-, and third-lactation order cows, respectively, totaling 93 cows. The samples were processed in an automatic multichannel analyzer using Labtest Diagnóstica® kits. The Kruskal-Wallis test was chosen to compare the values between lactation orders. The Mann-Whitney test was used to compare pregnant and non-pregnant cows within lactation orders. Among the analyzed constituents, the lactation order significantly influenced only the serum albumin concentration (ALB) (p<0.0001). Gestation significantly influenced the A:G ratio (p=0.034) in third-lactation cows, and cholesterol (Chol) (p=0.004), triglycerides (TRI) (p<0.0001), inorganic phosphorus (iP) (p=0.033), iron (Fe) (p=0.001), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) (p=0.018), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) (p=0.039) in second-lactation cows and the general group. Creatinine (Crea) (p<0.0001) was influenced only in the general group. Therefore, gestation and lactation order significantly influenced the concentration of several biochemical serum constituents in Bonsmara cows, especially second-lactation order cows.

Resumo Objetivou-se avaliar a infuência da idade e sexo nas concentrações séricas de proteínas, metabólitos, minerais e enzimas em bovinos da raça Bonsmara com até dois anos de idade. Foram colhidas amostras de sangue de 179 animais (92 machos e 87 fêmeas), de 15 dias a 24 meses de idade, distribuídos em quatro grupos etários: G1: 15 dias ┤2 meses, G2: 2 ┤6 meses, G3: 6 ┤12 meses e G4: 12 ┤24 meses de idade. As amostras foram processadas em analisador automático multicanal, utilizando kits da Labtest Diagnóstica®. A variável idade dos animais influenciou significativamente nos valores da maioria dos constituintes bioquímicos séricos avaliados, exceto no magnésio (Mg) e na relação Ca+:Pi. O aumento da idade culminou com a maior concentração das proteínas totais (PT), globulinas (Glob), ureia e colesterol (COL) no G3; aumento gradual e maior valor de creatinina (Crea), aspartato aminotransferase (AST) e alanina aminotransferase (ALT) no G4. Em contrapartida, houve diminuição da relação albumina:globulina (A:G), cálcio (Ca+), fósforo inorgânico (Pi), fosfatase alcalina (FAL) e gama glutamiltransferase (GGT) do G1 ao G4. O fator sexo influenciou nos valores séricos da albumina (ALB), Glob, relação A:G, Crea, ureia, triglicérides (TRI), Ca+, Pi, relação Ca+:Pi e Mg. Conclui-se que o fator idade e sexo influenciaram significativamente nos valores dos constituintes bioquímicos séricos analisados de bovinos da raça Bonsmara em fase de crescimento.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the effects of animal age and sex on serum concentrations of proteins, metabolites, minerals, and enzymes in Bonsmara cattle up to two years of age. Blood samples were collected from 179 animals (92 males and 87 females), aged between 15 days and 24 months. The animals were divided into four age groups: G1: 15 days ┤2 months, G2: 2 ┤6 months, G3: 6 ┤ 12 months, and G4: 12 ┤24 months of age. The samples were processed in an automatic multichannel analyzer using Labtest Diagnóstica™ kits. Animal age had a significant influence on most of the serum biochemical constituents except for magnesium (Mg) and the Ca+:iP ratio. As age increased, G3 showed the highest concentrations of total proteins (TP), globulins (Glob), urea, and cholesterol (Chol); while G4 had a gradual increase and higher values of creatinine (Crea), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and alanine aminotransferase (ALT). Conversely, albumin:globulin (A:G) ratio, calcium (Ca+), inorganic phosphorus (iP), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) decreased from G1 to G4. Moreover, animal sex influenced serum values of albumin (ALB), Glob, A:G ratio, Crea, urea, triglycerides (TRI), Ca+, iP, Ca+:iP ratio and Mg. In conclusion, the factors of age group and sex significantly influenced the concentrations of serum biochemical constituents in Bonsmara cattle in the growth phase.

Resumo O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a eficácia da ivermectina a 2% em equinos, através de exames coproparasitológicos e hematológicos. O experimento foi realizado em uma fazenda no município de Uberlândia, MG. Foram utilizados 24 equinos, de três a oito anos, divididos em dois grupos, conforme valores dos OPG. Contagens de OPG e coproculturas foram realizadas nos dias D0, D+7 e D+14. Os animais foram tratados com a formulação pasta a base de ivermectina 2%, na dose de 200 mcg/kg, via oral. Amostras de sangue foram coletadas nos dias D0, D+7 e D+14 para avaliação dos parâmetros hematológicos. A presença de ovos, característicos da família Strongylidae e identificação de larvas características de ciatostomíneos demonstrou o parasitismo dos animais por pequenos estrôngilos. Nos D+7 e D+14 houve a redução significativa do OPG no grupo tratado com eficácia de 99,5 e 99,7%, respectivamente. Observou-se tendência do quadro eritrocitário manter-se próximo aos limites inferiores e discreta leucocitose com neutrófilos próximos dos valores superiores. Pode-se inferir que a ivermectina é eficaz contra os ciatostomíneos e alterações hematológicas significativas não foram observadas.

Abstract The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of ivermectin at 2% in horses, through coproparasitological and hematological exams. The experiment was performed at a farm in the city of Uberlândia, Minas Gerais State. Twenty-four horses were used, ranging from 3 to 8 years of age, divided into 2 groups according to EPG values. EPG counts and coprocultures were performed on days D0, D+7 and D+14. The animals were treated with the ivermectin 2%-based paste formulation at a dose of 200 mcg/kg, orally. Blood samples were collected on days D0, D+7 and D+14 for evaluation of haematological parameters. The presence of eggs that are characteristic of the Strongylidae family and the identification of larvae that are characteristic of cyathostomins demonstrated the parasitism of the animals by small strongyles. At D+7 and D+14 there was a significant reduction of EPG in the treated group with an efficacy of 99.5 and 99.7%, respectively. A tendency of the erythrocyte framework to remain close to the lower limits was observed, besides a slight leukocytosis, with neutrophils close to the highest values. It can be inferred that ivermectin is effective against cyastostomines, and no significant haematological changes were observed.

ABSTRACT Objective This study investigated the possible blood changes in wistar rats elderly with and without treatment with anabolic steroids submitted physical training. Materials and methods Elderly rats (32) were divided into four groups: normal (N), treated normal (NT), diabetic (D) and treated diabetic (DT). They were submitted to 20 sessions of swimming with overload (5% body weight), 40 min/day for four weeks. The NT and DT groups received application of testosterone twice a week. At the end of the sessions, the animals were subjected to swimming until exhaustion and then killed for removal of blood and visceral fat. We evaluated maximum swim time, weight of visceral fat, erythrogram, leukogram, lipidogram and serum levels of glucose, lactate, aspartate aminotransferase and creatine kinase. The results were compared using one-way ANOVA followed by the post hoc Tukey test. Results In elderly diabetic rats, the use of anabolic associated with physical training in older rats resulted in improvement in erythrogram, lipidogram and physical performance for high-intensity aerobic exercise. However, it was related to changes in leukocyte count, probably associated with inflammation. Conclusion The combination of the use of testosterone with physical training, followed by maximal effort test caused changes hematological and biochemical can be associated with improvement in physiological characteristics, with increase of the swimming time and decrease of visceral fat levels, improvement in aerobic metabolism of fatty acids and glucose in normal and diabetic animals.

Objetivou-se neste estudo comparar as concentrações séricas de triiodotironina (T3) e tiroxina (T4) em suínos de linhagem comercial no início e término da fase de crescimento-terminação, correlacionando-os com o desempenho produtivo, características de qualidade de carcaça e da carne. As amostras sanguíneas de 48 animais foram coletadas no início e no final da fase de crescimento-terminação por punção da veia jugular externa, sempre no mesmo horário (8-10h). As determinações séricas dos hormônios tireoideanos foram feitas por enzimaimunoensaio. Foram feitas avaliações de desempenho e de qualidade de carcaça e de carne. No início e final do alojamento, as concentrações séricas de T3 foram de 1,85 e 1,32nmol L-1, respectivamente, e para T4 de 100,33 e 86,53nmol L-1, respectivamente. Houve correlação negativa e baixa entre T3 final e ganho de peso médio diário, peso final e espessura de toucinho. T4 inicial correlacionou-se negativamente e moderadamente com peso inicial. Os valores de T3 e de T4 em suínos no início da fase de crescimento-terminação são maiores que na terminação. Os hormônios tireoideanos estão associados com o peso inicial e final, espessura de toucinho na última lombar, pH45min e pH24h de suínos em crescimento-terminação.

The objective of this study was to compare serum concentrations of the hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) in pigs on commercial line beginning and end of growing-finishing phase, correlating them with productive performance and quality characteristics of carcass and meat. Blood samples were collected from 48 animals at the beginning and end of growing-finishing phase by puncturing the jugular vein, around the same time (08:00 to 10:00a.m.). Measurements of serum thyroid hormones were made by enzyme-immunoassay. It was evaluated the performance and quality of carcass and meat. At the beginning and end of the housing, serum T3 concentrations were 1.85 and 1.32nmol L-1, respectively, and T4 of 100.33 and 86.53nmol L-1, respectively. There was negative correlation between T3 and low-end and average daily weight gain, final weight and backfat thickness. Inicial T4 was moderately and moderately negatively correlated with initial weight. The values of T3 and T4 in pigs early in the growing-finishing phase are larger than in termination. The thyroid hormones are associated with the initial and final weight, backfat thickness at the last lumbar, pH45min and pH24h of growing-finishing pigs.

As variações nos parâmetros hematológicos são utilizadas com intuito de avaliar o grau de treinamento ou estado clínico do animal. A avaliação hematológica de eqüinos em repouso tem sido objeto de estudo, a fim de estabelecer uma relação com treinamento ou capacidade atlética. Objetivou-se avaliar o perfil hematológico de eqüinos submetidos à prova de Team Penning, correlacionando o sexo e freqüência da atividade física. Mediante punção da veia jugular externa coletaram-se dois mL de sangue de 29 eqüinos, 18 machos e 11 fêmeas, em repouso (Momento I) e após o exercício (Momento II). As amostras de sangue foram processadas em analisador hematológico automático veterinário (ABC VET - Horiba ABX Diagnostics). Os animais foram divididos em Grupos A, B, C e D, de acordo com o número de participações na prova. Observou-se que os valores de volume globular, hemoglobina, hemácias, leucócitos, neutrófilos em bastonetes e segmentados, e monócitos aumentaram após o exercício físico, ao contrário do número de linfócitos e eosinófilos, que reduziram. Não existiram diferenças significativas (p<0,05) entre machos e fêmeas ao confrontar as relações antes/depois. Além disso, evidenciou-se que o valor da relação MI/MII para volume globular, hemoglobina e número de hemácias variou de acordo com a freqüência do exercício. Conclui-se que a prova de Team Peninng ocasiona alterações hematológicas em eqüinos, com interferência da freqüência do exercício, independente do sexo.

Variations in hematologic parameters are used to assess the degree of training or clinical state of the animal. The hematologic evaluation of horses at rest has been an object of study in order to establish a correlation with training or athletic capacity. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the hematologic profile of horses subjected to Team Penning competitions, correlating sex and frequency of physical activity. Two milliliters of blood were drawn through a puncture made in the external jugular vein from 29 horses, 18 males and 11 females, at rest (Moment I) and after exercising (Moment II). The blood samples were processed in an ABC VET automated veterinary hematology analyzer (Horiba ABX Diagnostics). The animals were divided into Group A, B, C and D according to the number of times they participated in the competition. The values of globular volume, hemoglobin, erythrocytes, rod-shaped segmented neutrophils and monocytes increased after the physical exercise, unlike the number of lymphocytes and eosinophils, which decreased. A comparison of the before/after exercise correlations showed no significant differences (p<0.05) between males and females. In addition, it was found that the value of the MI/MII ratio for the globular volume, hemoglobin and number of erythrocytes varied according to the frequency of the exercise. It was concluded that the Team Penning competition produces hematologic alterations in horses, which are affected by the frequency of exercising, regardless of sex.
