ABSTRACT Ocular allergy encompasses a spectrum of pathologies mediated by hypersensitivity mechanisms that affect the ocular surface. Ocular symptoms and signs such as itching or conjunctival hyperemia are often underestimated and undertreated despite their impact on quality of life. Ocular allergy encompasses different clinical entities differentiated by their underlying pathophysiological mechanism and clinical presentation. Regarding diagnosis, the clinical history and physical examination are essential, with the investigation of a possible allergic sensitization through in vivo and in vitro tests and/or specific provocation tests. Treatment should be guided by clinical severity, and includes non-pharmacological and pharmacological measures and, in selected cases, allergen immunotherapy. This review aims to present the current multidisciplinary clinical approach to ocular allergy, focusing on its pathophysiology, classification, diagnosis and therapeutic approaches.

RESUMO A alergia ocular engloba um espetro de patologias mediadas por mecanismos de hipersensibilidade imunológica e que afetam a superfície ocular. Os sintomas e sinais oculares como o prurido ou hiperemia conjuntival são muitas vezes subvalorizados e subtratados apesar do seu impacto na qualidade de vida. As diferentes entidades englobadas na alergia ocular distinguem-se pelo seu mecanismo fisiopatológico e apresentação clínica. Para o seu diagnóstico, a história clínica e o exame objetivo são fundamentais, com eventual comprovação da existência de sensibilização a alergénios, recorrendo a testes in vivo e/ou in vitro ou através de provas de provocação. O tratamento deve ser guiado pela gravidade clínica, inclui medidas não farmacológicas e farmacológicas e, em casos selecionados, imunoterapia com alergénios. O presente artigo pretende perspetivar a atual abordagem multidisciplinar do doente com alergia ocular na prática clínica, no que concerne à sua fisiopatologia, classificação, diagnóstico e opções terapêuticas.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Verificar la asociación entre la baja calidad del sueño autorreportada (BCS) y las caídas en adultos de mediana edad y mayores cada media década de vida. Método: Se realizó un estudio transversal utilizando datos de la primera oleada (2015–2016) del Estudio Longitudinal Brasileño sobre el Envejecimiento (ELSI-Brasil), que es representativo a nivel nacional. La muestra consistió en 8,950 participantes que fueron asignados a ocho grupos de edad: 50–54, 55–59, 60–64, 65–69, 70–74, 75–79, 80–84 y ≥ 85 años. Los cuestionarios utilizados incluyeron calidad del sueño autorreportada y el Cuestionario Internacional de Actividad Física versión corta. Se realizó una prueba exacta de Fisher seguida por un análisis de regresión logística binaria para identificar la razón de probabilidades de la calidad del sueño para la ocurrencia de caídas, controlando las variables de confusión. Resultados: Participaron en este estudio individuos con edades entre 50 y 105 años (63,6 ± 10,2 años), siendo el 57,0% mujeres y el 43,0% hombres. En general, el 21,5% de los participantes experimentaron al menos una caída. La frecuencia relativa de participantes clasificados como con alta calidad de sueño o baja calidad de sueño (BCS) se mantuvo constante a lo largo de cada media década de vida. La BCS mostró un OR (p < 0,05) notable para las caídas en grupos de edad hasta los 84 años, incluso después de ajustar por variables de confusión. Conclusión: La BCS está significativamente asociada con una mayor ocurrencia de caídas en adultos mayores de 50 años, pero no para ≥ 85 años, independientemente del sexo y del nivel de actividad física.

ABSTRACT Objective: The frequency of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is high. The clinical course of non-IPF interstitial lung disease (ILD) can be similar to that of IPF. We sought to assess the frequency and predictors of OSA in patients with non-IPF fibrotic ILD, as well as the impact of positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy on the quality of life of such patients. Methods: This was a prospective study in which non-IPF fibrotic ILD patients underwent a home sleep apnea test. The patients with and without OSA were compared, and a multivariate logistic regression model was used to identify independent predictors of OSA. At 3 months after initiation of PAP therapy, we evaluated the participating patients for respiratory events, nocturnal hypoxemia, and changes in quality of life. Results: Of a total of 50 patients, 50% were male, and 76% were diagnosed with OSA. The mean age was 67.8 ± 8.3 years. The patients with OSA had significantly lower TLC (p = 0.033) and awake SpO2 (p = 0.023) than did those without OSA. In the multivariate logistic regression model, SpO2 (OR = 0.46; p = 0.016) and TLC (OR = 0.95; p = 0.026) remained significantly associated with OSA risk. A total of 12 patients received PAP therapy. At 3 months after initiation of PAP therapy, 91.7% were well controlled, Epworth Sleepiness Scale scores decreased significantly (p = 0.006), and emotional well-being tended to improve (p = 0.068). PAP therapy corrected nocturnal hypoxemia in all patients. Conclusions: We found a high frequency of OSA in patients with non-IPF fibrotic ILD. A low TLC was an independent predictor of a higher risk of OSA. PAP therapy can correct nocturnal hypoxemia. There should be a low threshold for suspicion of OSA and initiation of PAP therapy in patients with non-IPF fibrotic ILD. RESUMO Diversas pesquisas têm avaliado a aplicabilidade da técnica de auto liberação miofascial (ALM) na melhora aguda da flexibilidade em inúmeros esportes e/ou populações diferentes. No entanto, torna-se difícil sua inserção nas aulas de educação física escolar pelo elevado custo dos materiais. Dessa forma, buscou-se investigar o efeito da ALM em escolares por meio da utilização de rolos de espumas originais e com rolos confeccionados com materiais adaptados de baixo custo. Participaram da pesquisa 30 escolares, que foram aleatoriamente agrupados em: Grupo Controle (GCT), Grupo Rolo Original (GRO) e Grupo Rolo Adaptado (GRA). A flexibilidade foi avaliada antes e após a aplicação da ALM. A ALM foi realizada em músculos alvos uma vez por 30 segundos com intervalos de 15 segundos entre os estímulos. As comparações na flexibilidade pré e pós ALM foram avaliadas utilizando o teste de t student, com nível de significância adotado de p<0,05. Verificou-se que a ALM no GRO e GRA aumentaram agudamente a flexibilidade dos escolares em 7,53 e 16,5%, respectivamente. ABSTRACT Several studies have assessed the applicability of the Myofascial Self-Release Technique (MSRT) in the acute improvement of flexibility in various sports and/or different populations. However, its integration into school physical education classes becomes challenging due to the high cost of materials. Therefore, the aim was to investigate the effect of MSRT on schoolchildren using both original foam rollers and rollers made from low-cost adapted materials. Thirty schoolchildren participated in the study and were randomly grouped into: Control Group (CG), Original Roller Group (ORG), and Adapted Roller Group (ARG). Flexibility was evaluated before and after the application of MSRT. MSRT was performed on target muscles once for 30 seconds with intervals of 15 seconds between stimuli. Comparisons in pre- and post-MSRT flexibility were assessed using the Student's t-test, with a significance level adopted of p <0.05. It was found that MSRT in ORG and ARG significantly increased schoolchildren's flexibility by 7.53% and 16.5%, respectively. Therefore, the use of rollers made with alternative (adapted) material for applying MSRT appears to be a more financially accessible way to be used in physical education classes and opens possibilities for its application beyond schools. Abstract Isopods of the suborder Cymothoida include ectoparasite species that cause physical damage and affect the development of the host by feeding on blood and tissues. On fishes, these parasites attach themselves to the skin, fins, gills, and oral cavity using claws on articulated legs. The ability to remain hidden in cavities even after the fish is caught enables isopods to be transported to new areas along with the host, making these parasites potential co-invaders. Understanding the role and environmental impact of parasites is essential, although research on parasitism in the context of biological invasions lags in comparison to general research on such invasions. Previous records indicate only two species of parasitic isopods in the São Francisco River basin. However, the present study reports the first record of two other species (Braga patagonica and Braga nasuta) on Pygocentrus piraya and in the basin itself. This demonstrates a lack of knowledge regarding fish parasites in the region, despite the presence of other parasites. Collaborations with research groups conducting fish sampling in the basin can contribute to expanding knowledge on these parasites and the training of human resources in fish parasitology. Abstract This article investigates the strategies employed by Antônio Prudente to develop an initiative aimed at combating cancer throughout Brazil, based on his experience in the state of São Paulo. ABSTRACT Wheelchair dancing (DCR) is an activity practised mainly by people with physical disabilities. In Brazil, it is an emerging activity lacking investigation and systematisation. Thus, the objective of the present study was, through a narrative review of the literature, to identify, analyse and systematise the existing studies about the effects of DCR on the health and quality of life of people with physical disabilities. The research was driven in specialised databases, the Theses and Dissertations Catalog of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), and digital libraries of theses and dissertations from numerous higher education institutions. Eligible studies included only people with physical disabilities, as well as dealing with the effects of DCR on health and quality of life. A total of eight studies were included in the qualitative synthesis. Most of the studies had a qualitative approach and cross-sectional design. It is possible to conclude that DCR can bring countless benefits to the physical health, psychosocial functioning and quality of life of people with physical disabilities.

RESUMO A dança em cadeira de rodas (DCR) é uma modalidade praticada principalmente por pessoas com deficiência física. No Brasil, é uma modalidade emergente que carece de investigação e sistematização. Assim, o objetivo do presente estudo foi, por meio de uma revisão narrativa da literatura, identificar, analisar e sistematizar os estudos existentes sobre os efeitos da DCR na saúde e qualidade de vida de pessoas com deficiência física. As pesquisas foram conduzidas em bases de dados especializadas, Catálogo de Teses e Dissertações da Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (Capes) e em bibliotecas digitais de teses e dissertações de inúmeras instituições de ensino superior. Estudos elegíveis incluíram apenas pessoas com deficiência física, assim como tratavam dos efeitos da DCR na saúde e qualidade de vida. Um total de oito estudos foram incluídos na síntese qualitativa. A maior parte dos estudos apresentou uma abordagem qualitativa e delineamento transversal. É possível concluir que a DCR pode trazer inúmeros benefícios para a saúde física, para o funcionamento psicossocial e para a qualidade de vida de pessoas com deficiência física.

Resumo Objetivou-se determinar a ocorrência de anticorpos anti-Toxoplasma gondii, Neospora caninum e Leptospira spp., em ovinos e caprinos criados em aldeias da comunidade indígena Xukuru do Ororubá, Pernambuco, Brasil. Foram analisadas 180 amostras de soro de ovinos e 108 amostras de soro de caprinos de ambos os sexos e diferentes idades. Para a pesquisa de anticorpos foi utilizada a técnica de Reação de Imunofluorescência indireta (RIFI), para os protozoários T. gondii e N. caninum e Aglutinação Microscópica (MAT) para Leptospira spp., com ponto de corte de 1:64, 1:50 e 1:100, respectivamente. A frequência de anticorpos anti-T gondii foi de 16,6% (30/180) em ovinos e 11,1% (12/108) em caprinos. A frequência de anticorpos anti-N. caninum foi de 10,55% (19/180) para ovinos e 20,37% (22/108) para caprinos, enquanto para Leptospira spp., 2,2% (4/180) dos ovinos e 1,85% (2/108) dos caprinos reagiram positivamente. Os resultados obtidos neste estudo são inéditos em comunidades indígenas do país e alertam para o monitoramento de caprinos e ovinos da aldeia indígena Xukuru do Ororubá, quanto à ocorrência e impacto produtivo de infecções por T. gondii, N. caninum e Leptospira spp., além da ocorrência de zoonoses como a toxoplasmose e leptospirose na comunidade indígena. Abstract This study aimed to determine the occurrence of anti-Toxoplasma gondii, Neospora caninum, and Leptospira spp. antibodies in sheep and goats raised in villages of the Xukuru do Ororubá indigenous community, Pernambuco, Brazil. A total of 180 serum samples from sheep and 108 serum samples from goats of both sexes and different ages were analyzed. For antibody research, indirect immunofluorescence antibody test (IFAT) were used for the protozoa T. gondii and N. caninum, and microscopic agglutination test (MAT) for Leptospira spp., with a cutoff titer of 1:64, 1:50 and 1:100, respectively. The frequency of anti-T. gondii antibodies was 16.6% (30/180) for sheep and 11.1% (12/108) for goats. The frequency of anti-N. caninum antibodies was 10.55% (19/180) for sheep, and 20.37% (22/108) for goats, while for Leptospira spp., 2.2% (4/180) of sheep and 1.85% (2/108) of goats reacted positively.
