Abstract Introduction: In Mexico, cardiac rehabilitation (CR) as an interdisciplinary intervention with therapeutic impact in patients with heart disease is growing. There is the need to know actual conditions of CR in our country. Objectives: The objective of this National Registry is to follow-up those existing and new CR units in Mexico through the comparison between the two previous registries, RENAPREC-2009 and RENAPREC II-2015 studies. This is a descriptive study focused on diverse CR activities such as assistance training, and certification of health professionals, barriers, reference, population attended, interdisciplinarity, permanence over time, growth prospects, regulations, post-pandemic condition, integrative characteristics, and scientific research. Results: Data were collected from 45 CR centers in the 32 states, 75.5% are private practice units, 67% are new, 33% were part of RENAPREC II-2015, and 17 have continued since 2009. With a better distribution of CR units along the territory, the median reference of candidates for CR programs is 9% with a significant reduction into tiempo of enrollment to Phase II admission (19 ± 11 days). Regarding to previous registries, the coverance of Phases I, II, and III is 71%, 100%, and 93%, respectively; and a coverance increases in evaluation, risk stratification, and prescription, more comprehensive attendance and prevention strategies. Conclusions: CR in Mexico has grown in the past 7 years. Even there is still low reference and heterogeneity in specific processes, there are strengths such as interdisciplinarity, scientific professionalization of specialists, national diversification, and an official society that are consolidated over time.

Resumen Objetivo: Describir aspectos clínicos, microbiológicos y ecocardiográficos de endocarditis en un grupo específico de pacientes sin dispositivos intracardiacos ni cardiopatía estructural subyacente. Método: Estudio retrospectivo en el que se revisaron expedientes clínicos y reportes ecocardiográficos durante el periodo de 1997 a 2020. Se aplicaron los criterios modificados de Duke. Se describió la muestra por edad, sexo, enfermedad sistémica, vegetaciones y agente microbiológico. Se excluyeron pacientes con cardiopatía estructural o Libman-Sacks. Análisis estadístico: univariado expresado en frecuencias, utilizando medidas de dispersión y tendencia central. Resultados: Se revisaron 30,000 reportes ecocardiográficos, de los cuales solo 1350 tenían como motivo de envío endocarditis infecciosa, y de estos se seleccionaron 248 casos. La edad promedio fue de 48.1 ± 16.7 años. Hubo 140 hombres (56%) y 108 mujeres (44%). El signo ecocardiográfico más frecuente fue la vegetación, en 278 (93.60%), y la ubicación más común fue mitral (35.55%), con un número mayor de casos en el ventrículo derecho de lo esperado. La enfermedad sistémica más común fue la enfermedad renal, en 135 (41.08%). Se identificó un caso de Streptococcus thoraltensis no reportado previamente en México. Conclusiones: La presencia de endocarditis infecciosa ha aumentado debido a procedimientos invasivos intrahospitalarios y fármacos. Por su complejidad, los equipos multidisciplinarios son indispensables.

Abstract Objective: To describe clinical, microbiological and echocardiographic aspects of endocarditis in a specific group of patients without intracardiac devices or underlying structural heart disease. Method: Retrospective study, clinical records and echocardiographic reports were reviewed during the period 1997 to 2020. Duke’s modified criteria were applied. Statistical analysis: univariate expressed in frequencies, using measures of dispersion and central tendency. Results: 30,000 echocardiographic reports were reviewed, only 1350 had infectious endocarditis as a reason for sending, of which 248 cases were selected. The mean age was 48.1 ± 16.7 years. 140 men (56%) and 108 women (44%). The most frequent echocardiographic sign was vegetation, in 278 (93.60%), and most common location was mitral (35.55%), with a higher number of cases in the right ventricle than expected. The most common systemic disease was kidney disease, in 135 (41.08%). A case of Streptococcus thoraltensis not previously reported in Mexico was identified. Conclusions: The presence of infectious endocarditis has increased due to invasive in-hospital and drug procedures. Due to their complexity, multidisciplinary teams are indispensable.

Resumen Antecedentes: El cáncer de células pequeñas (CPCP) representa el 13-15% del total de neoplasias primarias de pulmón. Se caracteriza por su rapidez en la tasa de crecimiento y en el desarrollo de metástasis a distancia. Objetivos: Orientar y estandarizar el tratamiento del CPCP enfermedad extensa en México basado en evidencia clínica nacional e internacional. Material y métodos: Este documento se desarrolló como una colaboración del Instituto Nacional de Cancerología y la Sociedad Mexicana de Oncología en cumplimiento con estándares internacionales. Se integró un grupo conformado por oncólogos médicos, cirujanos oncólogos, cirujanos de tórax, radio-oncólogos y metodólogos con experiencia en revisiones sistemáticas de la literatura y guías de práctica clínica. Resultados: Se consensaron, por el método Delphi y en reuniones a distancia, las recomendaciones en CPCP enfermedad extensa, producto de preguntas de trabajo. Se identificó y evaluó la evidencia científica que responde a cada una de dichas preguntas clínicas antes de incorporarla al cuerpo de la guía. Conclusión: Esta guía proporciona recomendaciones clínicas para el manejo de la enfermedad extensa del CPCP y durante el proceso de toma de decisiones de los clínicos involucrados con su manejo en nuestro país para mejorar la calidad de la atención clínica para estos pacientes.

Abstract Background: Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) represents 13-15% of all primary lung neoplasms and is characterized by its rapid growth rate and the rapid development of distant metastases. Objectives: To guide and standardize the treatment of extensive disease small cell lung cancer in Mexico based on national and international clinical evidence. Material and methods: This document was developed as a collaboration between the National Cancer Institute and the Mexican Society of Oncology in compliance with international standards. An interdisciplinary group was formed, including medical oncologists, oncological surgeons, thoracic surgeons, radiation oncologists, and methodologists with experience in systematic reviews of the literature and clinical practice guidelines. Results: A consensus was reached, both by the Delphi method and in remote meetings, of extensive disease recommendations resulting from work questions. The scientific evidence that answers each of these clinical questions was identified and critically evaluated, before being incorporated into the body of evidence of the Guide. Conclusions: This Clinical Practice Guide provides clinical recommendations for the management of extensive disease of SCLC to contribute to the decision-making process of the clinicians involved with its management in our country, hoping that this will contribute to improving the quality of clinical care in these patients.

Resumen Los elogios son definidos como devoluciones positivas otorgadas a personas sobre sus atributos, sobre la realización de una tarea o sobre los objetos o productos realizados. Los distintos tipos de elogios que los cuidadores primarios o padres utilicen con los infantes cuando ellos realicen una actividad impactarán en su desarrollo, en las creencias o percepción de sí mismos o de los modos de aprender, y en la motivación hacia esas tareas que la niña o el niño realice. Estos modos de elogiar no han sido estudiados en la Argentina y no existen instrumentos estandarizados psicométricos para evaluarlos. Por esto, el objetivo de este estudio fue la creación y validación de una técnica de auto-reporte para evaluar los elogios que otorgan los cuidadores a infantes de 0 a 3 años. Los participantes que conformaron la muestra (. = 128) fueron reclutados por medio de internet y completaron un cuestionario de escala Likert de aproximadamente cinco minutos de duración. A partir del análisis factorial exploratorio, se ajustó la técnica y se agruparon las preguntas del cuestionario en tres dimensiones: elogios de persona, proceso y producto. Esto permitiría hacer una evaluación breve y sencilla de los elogios utilizados, lo que en un futuro aportaría a intervenciones o estudios que pretendan favorecer elogios que beneficien un desarrollo adaptativo de los infantes. Sin embargo, aún es necesario un futuro estudio que indague cambios en la técnica con un mayor tamaño muestral para la realización de una validación más exhaustiva.

Abstract Praise is defined as positive feedback given to people about their attributes, their performance, the objects or products made by them. The different types of praise that primary caregivers or parents use with infants when they carry out an activity will impact on their development, beliefs or perception of themselves or types of learning, and motivation toward the tasks that the children perform. One type of praise is the praise directed towards an individual, which compliments their own attributes such as her intelligence. Another one is the product praise, which is directed towards the final objects or actions that the infant performs, such as a drawing or physical activities. Finally, a praise directed at the process aims to congratulate the infant during the task as a process, either for making an effort or for the strategies that they use to achieve something. This last kind of praise favors perseverance in the face of new tasks to a greater extent, while praise directed at the person could generate more frustration when the infant experiences failure. Therefore, the way caregivers interact with infants is relevant, since it modulates motivation and the development of different skills. For this reason, the main objective of this study was the creation and validation of a self-report technique to assess the praise that Argentinean caregivers give to infants from 0 to 3 years of age. The sample was made up of 128 primary caregivers (. = 128) who were recruited through the internet. They completed a Likert scale questionnaire of approximately 5 minutes of duration. The data was collected during preventive social isolation due to COVID-19. This could lead to changes in parental behavior, while it also provides ecological value for understanding the ways to praise in this context, where caregivers spend a lot of time with infants; however, it would be important to conduct future research outside of this context. An exploratory factor analysis was performed, which led to an adjustment in the technique by eliminating four items in order to improve the psychometric characteristics of the instrument. By this analysis, the formation of the three dimensions was justified by the types of praise: person, process, and product praise.The final instrument consisted of 13 phrases that represent possible compliments used by caregivers. Participants indicated how often they usually use those compliments on a scale from 1 (never) to 5 (very often). The items are divided by types of praise: six were assigned to the product dimension, three to the process dimension and four to the person dimension. The internal consistencies of the dimensions were process (α = .91), product (α = .74) and person (α = .73). This self-report technique for primary caregivers of infants would allow a short and simple evaluation of the praise used. In future research, this technique would allow an assessment of praise for the realization of studies that seek to expand the knowledge about how they affect child development. Likewise, it would contribute to the development of interventions with caregivers aimed to promote praise that benefits an adaptive development of infants. However, more studies are needed to investigate possible changes in the inventory, such as the inclusion of neutral praise or negative feedback. Furthermore, a larger sample size would be necessary to carry out a more exhaustive validation, performing a confirmatory factor analysis, convergent variance and factor invariance.

Abstract Objective: The purpose was to compare the outcomes of patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction and multivessel coronary artery disease undergoing one-time multivessel revascularization (OTMVR) versus in-hospital staged complete revascularization with percutaneous coronary intervention. Methods: This was a single-center, retrospective, observational, and cohort study, including data from January 2013 to April 2019. A total of 634 patients were included in the study. Comparisons were made between patients who underwent in-hospital staged complete revascularization versus OTMVR. The primary endpoint was all-cause in-hospital mortality, secondary endpoints included cardiovascular complications, all-cause new hospitalization, and mortality evaluated at 30 days and 1 year. In addition, we constructed a logistic regression model for determining the risk factors that predicted mortality. Results: Of the 634 patients, 328 were treated with staged revascularization and 306 with OTMVR. About 76.7% were men, with a mean age of 63.3 years. Less complex coronary lesions and a higher proportion of the left anterior descending artery as the culprit vessel were found in the OTMVR group. Compared with staged revascularization, the primary and secondary endpoints occurred less frequently with OTMVR strategy. Conclusions: OTMVR did not generate more complications and demonstrate better clinical outcomes than in-hospital staged revascularization.

Resumen Objetivo: El propósito fue comparar resultados de pacientes con infarto agudo de miocardio con elevación del segmento ST y enfermedad coronaria multivaso sometidos a revascularización completa de un solo momento frente a revascularización completa por etapas mediante intervención coronaria percutánea. Métodos: Estudio cohorte observacional, retrospectivo, unicéntrico, con datos de enero de 2013 a abril de 2019, incluyendo 634 pacientes. Se compararon resultados entre pacientes sometidos a revascularización completa por etapas frente a revascularización completa en un solo momento. El objetivo primario fue valorar mortalidad intrahospitalaria por cualquier causa y como objetivos secundarios se evaluaron a 30 días y 1 año las complicaciones cardiovasculares, hospitalizaciones y mortalidad. Se construyó un modelo de regresión logística para determinar los factores de riesgo que predijeron mortalidad. Resultados: De 634 pacientes, 328 fueron tratados con revascularización por etapas y 306 con revascularización en una intervención. El 76.7% fueron hombres, con una media de edad de 63.3 años. En el grupo de revascularización de un solo tiempo se encontraron lesiones coronarias menos complejas y una mayor proporción de la arteria descendente anterior como vaso culpable. Comparado con el grupo de revascularización por etapas, los objetivos primarios y secundarios ocurrieron con menos frecuencia en el grupo de revascularización en un solo tiempo. Conclusiones: Comparada con la revascularización intrahospitalaria por etapas, la revascularización en una intervención lleva a mejores desenlaces clínicos sin generar más complicaciones.

Abstract: The present research aimed to describe the type of stimulation at home and the levels of pandemic stress perceived in primary caregivers during the COVID-19 context; as well as evaluating the possible association between the aforementioned variables. The sample consisted of 304 Argentine primary caregivers of children from 0 to 12 years old (M age = 6,23 years, SD = 3,44 years, male = 136). An ad hoc sociodemographic questionnaire, an ad hoc Home Stimulation Questionnaire and the SISCO Pandemic Stress Inventory (ISEP; Macías, 2020) were administered. It was found that TV and the Internet were the most used devices by infants (2 to 4 hours a day). In turn, a positive association was found between overcrowding and higher levels of pandemic stress, the latter predominantly in families living with a person at risk, were themselves at risk or had difficulty sleeping. It is concluded that one must work with the type of content and the amount of time that infants are exposed to technological devices, and with the possible stress that may arise from families where there are people belonging to the risk group.

Resumen: La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo describir el tipo de estimulación en el hogar y los niveles de estrés de pandemia percibidos en cuidadores primarios durante el contexto COVID-19; así como también evaluar la posible asociación entre dichas variables. La muestra estuvo conformada por 304 cuidadores primarios argentinos de niños/as de 0 a 12 años (M.edad = 6,23 años, DE = 3,44 años, masculino = 136). Se administró un cuestionario sociodemográfico ad hoc, un cuestionario de estimulación en el hogar ad hoc y la validación argentina del Inventario SISCO del Estrés de Pandemia (ISEP). Se encontró que la TV e internet fueron los dispositivos más utilizados por los infantes (2 a 4 horas diarias). Además, se encontró una asociación positiva entre hacinamiento y mayores niveles de estrés de pandemia, predominante este último en las familias que conviven con una persona de riesgo o eran personas de riesgo. Por último, a mayor lectura compartida y cantidad de libros, más estrategias de afrontamiento. Se concluye que se debe trabajar con el tipo de contenido y la cantidad de tiempo que los infantes están expuestos a los dispositivos tecnológicos y libros, y con el posible estrés que pueda surgir de las familias en donde haya personas de riesgo.

ABSTRACT The effectiveness of the Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas donghuensis strains for the control of Fusarium oxysporum and Pythium aphanidermatum, which cause the drowning of chili seedlings in the greenhouse, was evaluated. Its pathogenicity to cause the disease was verified and antagonism tests were obtained in culture plates with enriched PDA. Through the in vitro confrontation of these phytopathogens with three strains of the species Bacillus subtilis, it was observed that this sporulate has the capacity to inhibit to a greater or lesser degree (39.35- 56.24 %) the mycelial growth of F. oxysporum, but not the from P. aphanidermatum, none of the Bacillus isolates used in this study had an effect in inhibiting this Oomycete, since it grew faster than the spore-forming bacteria, since P. aphanidermatum developed and grew to fill the culture plate in just 36 hours. On the other hand, P. donghuensis inhibited the growth of this last phytopathogen by 56 %, however, it did not present an inhibition effect against F. oxysporum, so it could be feasible to use mixtures of these two antagonists for the management of this disease and be able to control Damping off problems caused by these phytopathogens.

RESUMEN Se evaluó la efectividad de Pseudomonas donghuensis y Bacillus subtilis para el control de Fusarium oxysporum y Pythium aphanidermatum causantes del ahogamiento de plántulas de chile en invernadero. Se comprobó su patogenicidad para ocasionar la enfermedad y se realizaron pruebas de antagonismo en placas con PDA enriquecido. Mediante la confrontación in vitro de estos fitopatógenos con tres cepas de Bacillus subtilis se comprobó que este esporulado inhibió en mayor o menor grado (39.35- 56.24 %) el crecimiento micelial de F. oxysporum, pero no tuvo efecto alguno para P. aphanidermatum, ningún Bacillus inhibió a este Oomycete, debido a su rápido crecimiento en la placa de cultivo (36 h de incubación). En contraste P. donghuensis inhibió en un 56 % el crecimiento de P. aphanidermatum, y no presentó efecto inhibitorio para F. oxysporum, por lo que la mezcla de ambos antagonistas pudiera tener potencial para el control de los problemas de ahogamiento ‘‘Damping off” causados por estos fitopatógenos.

The operational conditions of β-galactosidase encapsulated in pectin-alginate hydrogel were investigated as well as its catalytic activity in the hydrolysis of lactose from whey and whole milk. β-Galactosidase encapsulated in pectin-alginate hydrogel showed the best results to yields and diffusional effect and pH range. Thermostability showed considerable income gain for half-life (1.7-fold), activation energy of denaturation (31.6-fold), activation of denaturation (217.3-fold at 40 ºC; 266.8-fold at 50 ºC; 345.6-fold at 60 ºC), and entropy of activation of denaturation (-42.0 J mol 1 K-1). Reusability of encapsulated β-galactosidase was observed in 8-cycles for the milk whey lactose hydrolysis (51.9%) and 7-cycles for whole milk (55.6%), and the lactose hydrolysis was observed in 13% in milk whey and 10.3% in whole milk after 10 cycles. These results revealed an industrial application potential of β-galactosidase encapsulated in pectin-alginate hydrogel for lactose hydrolysis of milk whey and whole milk processes.

Resumen El objetivo del estudio fue determinar la presencia de elementos metálicos en frutos y hojas de tres especies arbóreas como bioindicadoras en San Luis Potosí, México. En cinco usos de suelo (agrícola, suburbano, comercio y servicios, urbano y minero) y tomando como refe rencia la ubicación y presencia de 30 árboles de P. laevigata, S. molle y A. farnesiana. Fueron colectadas en total 90 muestras de frutos y 90 de hojas (30 por especie). Las concentraciones totales de 13 elementos metálicos se determinaron utilizando un equipo de espectrometría de masas de plasma acoplado inductivamente (ICP-MS). La especie tuvo efecto significativo en Co, As y Pb (ANOVA, p≤0,05). Considerando los usos de suelo y la especie, los niveles deter minados en hoja y fruto en las tres especies presentaron niveles suficientes y fitotóxicas en Al, Cd, Co, Ni, Mn, Ti y Cr y excesivos con posible efecto fitotóxico de As, Cu, Pb, Zn, V y Fe. A. farnesiana obtuvo las concentraciones más altas de 12 metales pesados (MP). La variación en las concentraciones totales de metales entre hoja a fruto osciló de 84.70 a 99.06%, destacando V, As y Cr. Se comprueba la funcionalidad de estas especies arbóreas como fitorremediadoras y bioindicadoras para evaluar el impacto ambiental en usos de suelo.

Abstract This study aimed to determine the presence of metal elements in fruits and leaves of three tree species as bioindicators in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Ninety fruit and 90 leaf samples (30 per tree species) were collected at five sites (agricultural, suburban, commercial and services, urban, and mining), using the site and the presence of P. laevigata, S. molle, and A. farnesiana as references. Total concentrations of 13 metal elements were determined using an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). The species were significantly affected by Co, As, and Pb (ANOVA, p≤0.05). Considering the land use and the species, the contents determined in the leaves and fruits of the three species had sufficient and phyto toxic contents of Al, Cd, Co, Ni, Mn, Ti, and Cr, and excessive ranges with the possible phyto toxic effect of As, Cu, Pb, Zn, V, and Fe. The A. farnesiana had the highest concentrations of 12 heavy metals analyzed (HM). The variation in total metal concentrations between leaves and fruits ranged from 84.70 to 99.06%, with V, As, and Cr being prominent. The function ality of these tree species as phytoremediators and bioindicators is reviewed to evaluate environmental impacts on land use.

Abstract There are more than 1 billion people with disabilities worldwide, with 16% of children having some type of neurodevelopmental disorder (ND). In Mexico, 6% of the population presented some disability; however, there is a lack of data on ND in children under 5 years of age. Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of neurodevelopmental alterations in children under 5 years of age in urban, suburban, and rural populations from two states of Mexico. Methods: This was an observational and cross-sectional design study. We included 501 clinically healthy children from 0 to 60 months of age, from urban, suburban, and rural populations from the state of Queretaro (201) and from the State of Mexico (300). Neurodevelopmental alterations were detected through the electronic N-PED system, exploring areas of neurological development of language, psychomotor, and sensory (auditory and visual). The positive subjects were clinically assessed to confirm the diagnosis. Results: A 14.7% prevalence of ND was found, with a significant difference between Queretaro (8.9%) and the State of Mexico (18.7%). Language alterations were significantly different for both states (4.9% and 16% for Queretaro and the State of Mexico, respectively). Conclusions: The prevalence of ND and language alterations presented significant differences between the two evaluated states.

Resumen Hay más de mil millones de personas con discapacidad en todo el mundo, el 16% de los niños tiene algún tipo de trastorno del desarrollo neurológico (DN). En México, 6% de la población presenta alguna discapacidad; sin embargo, faltan datos en niños menores de 5 años. Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de alteraciones del neurodesarrollo en menores de 5 años, en poblaciones urbanas, suburbanas y rurales, de 2 estados de México. Métodos: Estudio observacional, de diseño transversal. Se incluyeron 501 niños, clínicamente sanos, de 0 a 60 meses de edad, de poblaciones urbanas, suburbanas y rurales de Querétaro (201) y del Estado de México (300). Se detectaron alteraciones del neurodesarrollo a través del sistema electrónico N-PED, explorando áreas del lenguaje, psicomotor y sensorial (auditivo y visual). Los sujetos positivos fueron evaluados clínicamente para confirmar el diagnóstico. Resultados: Se encontró una prevalencia de trastornos del DN de 14.7%, con una diferencia significativa entre Querétaro (8.9%) y el Estado de México (18.7%). Las alteraciones del lenguaje fueron significativamente diferentes para ambos estados (4.9% y 16% para Querétaro y el Estado de México, respectivamente). Conclusiones: La prevalencia de trastornos del DN y del lenguaje, presentaron diferencias significativas entre los dos estados evaluados.

Abstract Technological innovation encourages cooperation between academics to promote the development of competitive regions through applied research from the university to which they belong. We seek to know the level of cooperation between researchers from the Autonomous University of Sinaloa towards innovation, through its Technological Innovation Park, which allows the increase of the region's competitiveness. 44 academics participated in filling out the structured questionnaire and their answers were analyzed with the SPSS statistical software, finding an average of 3,895 points out of 5 in terms of their cooperation needs and that the cooperation to innovate is the most representative of the four types of cooperation. In conclusion, researchers can be encouraged to innovate and produce more by training them, emphasizing the sale and distribution of their products, promoting their profiles among them and improving communication when acquiring tools.

Resumen La innovación tecnológica incentiva la cooperación entre académicos para impulsar el desarrollo de regiones competitivas mediante investigaciones aplicadas de la universidad a la que pertenecen. Se busca conocer el nivel de cooperación entre los investigadores de la Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa hacia la innovación, a través su Parque de Innovación Tecnológica, que permite el aumento de la competitividad de la región. 44 académicos participaron en el llenado del cuestionario estructurado y sus respuestas se analizaron con el software estadístico SPSS, encontrando una media de 3.895 puntos de 5 en cuanto a sus necesidades de cooperación y que la cooperación para innovar es la más representativa de los cuatro tipos de cooperación. En conclusión, se puede incentivar a los investigadores a innovar y producir más capacitándolos, poniendo énfasis en la venta y distribución de sus productos, promocionando sus perfiles entre ellos y mejorando la comunicación al adquirir herramientas.

RESUMEN Plasmodium vivax es la especie más común en la Amazonía peruana y ocasiona el 81% del total de casos de malaria. Presentamos el caso de un paciente adulto varón con malaria cerebral por Plasmodium vivax, que inicia con malestar general y fiebre, luego presenta convulsiones más de dos veces al día con pérdida de consciencia y limitación funcional motora. Se le realiza gota gruesa donde se observa trofozoítos de Plasmodium vivax y depresión de las tres series sanguíneas. Se inicia tratamiento con artesunato y clindamicina por cinco días, se le transfunde un paquete globular, y continua con primaquina por siete días. El paciente muestra mejoría clínica con secuela neurológica en extremidad inferior izquierda.

ABSTRACT Plasmodium vivax causes 81% of all malaria cases and is the most common species in the Peruvian Amazon. We present the case of a male patient with cerebral malaria caused by Plasmodium vivax, who had general malaise and fever, and then presented seizures more than twice a day with loss of consciousness and motor functional limitation. Plasmodium vivax trophozoites were detected by thick blood smear, besides, we also observed low counts of all three blood cell types. Treatment began with artesunate and clindamycin for five days, then one unit of packed red blood cells was transfused; treatment continued with primaquine for seven days. The patient showed clinical improvement with neurological sequelae in one lower limb.

Abstrac: Polycrystalline CdTe thin films deposited in large areas present some difficulties, such as non-uniformity over the entire area. It is well known that the ratio between the thickness and grain size of CdTe thin films is approximately one. In contrast, the pin holes in CdTe should be minimized. CdS thin films as window materials must guarantee a uniform transparent film free of pinholes to avoid short-circuit in the photovoltaic device. In this work, CdTe and CdS thin films are reported in areas of 40 cm2 with optimal physical properties for potential application on solar cells. CdTe mini-modules were fabricated using CdTe and CdS layers obtained and characterized under outdoor conditions. The current-voltage measurements were performed under different load and solar irradiance conditions.

Abstract: In this study the enrichment dietary effect with different crude protein levels (CP) and feed additives on growth, survival, feed conversion ratio (FCR), feed consumption (FC) and total hemocyte count (THC) in juvenile white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei were evaluated. The study covered two bioassays: in the first one, juveniles were daily fed for 45 days with four experimental diets containing: (1) Control, commercial feed (35% CP); (2) 29% CP; (3) 32% CP; (4) 35% CP. After the 29% CP diet was selected, juveniles in bioassay II were daily fed for 45 days with a single CP diet complemented with probiotics: (1) Control, commercial feed (35% CP); (2) 29% CP; (3) 29% CP + Bacillus mix at 1×106 CFUg-1 feed; and (4) 29% CP + yeast mix at 1×106 CFUg-1 feed. Juvenile shrimp fed with experimental diets gained significantly more weight and increased survival, FCR, FC and THC compared with control diet. However, differences among experimental diets were not significant. In bioassay II, juvenile shrimp fed with experimental diet + feed additives significantly increased survival, FCR, FC and THC compared with control diet. Growth of juveniles significantly increased with 29% CP and 29% CP + yeast mix diets, compared with control group. Complementing the diet with yeast mix showed higher survival and THC of juveniles compared with the other experimental treatments. Different CP levels in shrimp diet improved growth, survival and circulating hemocytes, and addition of mixed yeast as feed additive induced better survival and immune response in juvenile shrimp.

Resumen: En este estudio se evaluó el efecto del enriquecimiento de dietas con diferentes niveles de proteína cruda (CP) y aditivos en el crecimiento, supervivencia, tasa de conversión alimenticia (FCR), consumo de alimento (FC) y conteo total de hemocitos (THC) en juveniles de camarón blanco Litopenaeus vannamei. El estudio consta de dos bioensayos: en el primero, los juveniles fueron alimentados diariamente por 45 días con cuatro dietas experimentales con diferente contenido de proteína: (1) Alimento comercial o control, CP 35%; (2) CP 29%; (3) CP 32%; (4) CP 35%. Después de seleccionar CP 29%, en el bioensayo II los juveniles fueron alimentados diariamente por 45 días con una dieta proteica complementada con probióticos: (1) Alimento comercial o control, CP 35%; (2) CP 29%; (3) CP 29% + mezcla de Bacillus a 1×106 UFCg-1 alimento; y (4) CP 29% + mezcla de levaduras a 1×106 UFCg-1 alimento. Los camarones juveniles alimentados con las dietas experimentales mostraron ganancia en peso significativamente mayor e incremento en supervivencia, FCR, FC y THC comparado con la dieta control. Sin embargo, no hubo diferencias significativas entre las dietas experimentales. En el segundo bioensayo, los juveniles alimentados con la dieta experimental + aditivos alimentarios incrementaron significativamente supervivencia, FCR, FC y THC comparado con la dieta control. El crecimiento de juveniles se incrementó significativamente con las dietas CP29% y CP29%+mezcla de levaduras, comparado con el crecimiento de la dieta control. La dieta complementada con la mezcla de levaduras mostró el valor más alto de supervivencia y THC de juveniles comparado con los demás tratamientos experimentales. Los diferentes niveles experimentales de CP incluidos en la dieta de camarón incrementaron crecimiento, supervivencia y hemocitos circulantes; la adición de una mezcla de levaduras como aditivo alimentario, indujo mejor supervivencia y respuesta inmune en juveniles de camarón.
