Abstract The objective of this work was to determine the acidity levels to obtain adequate soil chemical attributes for the maximum fruit yield of blackberry trees grown in acidic soils subjected to increasing limestone rates. The BRS Tupy, Brazos, Guarani, and BRS Xavante blackberry cultivars were evaluated on the Typic Hapludox (LVdf) and Rhodic Hapludox (LVd) soils, to which four rates of dolomitic limestone were applied (0, 1.5, 3.0, and 6.0 Mg ha-1). The effect of liming on soil chemical attributes, in a 2×4 factorial arrangement (soils and limestone rates), as well as leaf nutrient content and fruit yield, in a 2×4×4 factorial arrangement (soils, limestone rates, and cultivars), were evaluated. The maximum fruit yield was obtained with 3.3 Mg ha-1 dolomitic limestone. The blackberry cultivars showed a high demand for Ca, Mg, and base saturation and a low tolerance to aluminum in the soils. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar os níveis de acidez para obter os atributos químicos do solo adequados à máxima produção de frutos de amoreiras-pretas cultivadas em solos ácidos submetidos a doses crescentes de calcário. Foram avaliadas as cultivares de amoreira-preta BRS Tupy, Brazos, Guarani e BRS Xavante nos solos Latossolo Vermelho Distroférico (LVdf) e Latossolo Vermelho distrófico (LVd), aos quais foram aplicadas quatro doses de calcário dolomítico (0, 1,5, 3,0 e 6,0 Mg ha-1). ABSTRACT: This study detected Anaplasma marginale in calvesusing blood smears and nested PCR (nPCR) and to compare the results with the clinical signs presented by calves on a dairy farm in the municipality of Castanhal, located northeast of the state Pará (1°07’19.1”S and 47°53’53.0”W), eastern Amazon. To this end, 192 blood samples were collected from 24 animals at 1-20, 21-41 and 42-60 days of age. Blood smears and nPCR with primers for the msp5 gene were performed. The prevalence of A. marginale was 61.5% (118/192) for the blood smear technique and nPCR (msp5). The manifestation of clinical signs of anaplasmosis also increased significantly over the course of the study (P < 0.0001), being lower in animals aged 1-20 days, but increasing among those aged 21-41 and 42-60 days. These signs were characterized by apathy, fever, weight loss, diarrhea, dehydration, and hypochromic mucous membranes. Regarding the evaluation of the diagnostic techniques, no significant difference was observed in the detection of A. marginale between the blood smear and nPCR (P = 0.995), but the agent’s rickets increased on Day 47 (P < 0.01) in both tests, thereby demonstrating a near-linear pattern of increase in rickets over the 60 days, with a consequent decrease in globular volume. This shows that of the 24 animals studied, 21 were infected at some point during the study period. RESUMO: Objetivou-se, na construção deste trabalho, detectar Anaplasma marginale por meio do esfregaço sanguíneo e Nested PCR (nPCR) e comparar os resultados com os sinais clínicos apresentados pelos bezerros em uma propriedade leiteira localizada no município de Castanhal, região nordeste do estado do Pará (1°07’19,1”S e 47°53’53,0”W), Amazônia Oriental. Para isso, foram coletadas 192 amostras sanguíneas de 24 animais, divididos em três períodos: 1-20, 21-41 e 42-60 dias de idade. Foram realizados esfregaços sanguíneos e nPCR com iniciadores para o gene msp5. A prevalência de A. marginale foi de 61,46% (118/192) tanto para a técnica de esfregaço sanguíneo quanto para nPCR (msp5). A manifestação de sinais clínicos da anaplasmose também foi significativamente crescente ao longo do estudo (P < 0,0001), sendo menor em animais de 1 a 20 dias, mas expandindo-se entre os de 21 a 41 dias e 42 a 60 dias, esses sinais foram caracterizados por apatia, febre, perda de peso, diarreia, desidratação e mucosas hipocoradas. Quanto a avaliação das técnicas diagnósticas, não houve diferença significativa entre a detecção de A. marginale no esfregaço sanguíneo e na nPCR (P = 0,995), porém se observou aumento riquetsêmico do agente no 47º dia (P < 0,01) em ambos os testes, demonstrando, assim, um padrão de aumento da riquetsemia próximo ao linear ao longo dos 60 dias, com consequente diminuição do volume globular. Assim, demonstra-se que dos 24 animais estudados, 21 se infectaram em algum momento do período estudado, e não houve diferença significativa entre esfregaço sanguíneo e nPCR, em virtude, provavelmente, das parasitemias médias e altas, as quais estiveram diretamente relacionadas com os sinais clínicos e a diminuição do volume globular. Biocomposites have gained attention in the packaging industry due to their potential as sustainable alternatives to conventional synthetic materials. In this study, novel cotton incorporated poly(lactic acid)/thermoplastic starch biocomposites were developed for packaging applications using in short shelf life products the extrusion method. Pelletized samples obtained by extrusion were stamped from plates obtained by compression and were characterized through measurement of density, hardness, contact angle and water absorption, as well as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). No significant changes in the density results were observed. A slight increase in the hardness of formulations in relation to the PLA was associated with the presence of cotton fiber in biocomposites. The FTIR results revealed physical interaction of PLA, TPS and cotton fiber. By DSC analysis, for all formulations the melting exhibited only one peak, suggesting good homogeneity and interaction among the components, as observed by TG/DTG results, and corroborating SEM analysis. The biocomposite PLA/TPS/Cotton 85/10/5 wt.% displayed greater increase in water absorption than both 95/5/0 and 90/5/5 wt.% formulations, which can be attributed to the increase in starch proportion, confirming the contact angle results. Abstract Germ cell transplantation in fish is a promising technique for surrogate broodstock parents with broader application in aquaculture and conserving endangered and valuable genetic resources. Herein, we describe the establishment of an intrapapillary xenogeneic transplant of germ cells from sexually mature goldfish (C. auratus) males into common carp (C. carpio) males cytoablated with a thermochemical treatment (two doses of busulfan at 40 mg/kg at 35°C). To analyze the presence and development of donor germ cells in recipient testes, donor germ cells were labeled with PKH26, a fluorescent cell membrane dye, before transplantation. Our results demonstrated that thermochemical treatment caused effective spermatogenesis suppression and pronounced germ cell loss. Moreover, transplanted spermatogonial cells were able to colonize the recipients’ testes, resume spermatogenesis, and generate spermatozoa within eight weeks after germ cell transplantation. These findings suggested that recipient testes provided suitable conditions for the survival, colonization, proliferation, and differentiation of donor spermatogonia from a related species. This study indicated that recipients’ testes exhibited a high degree of plasticity to accept and support xenogeneic donor germ cells, which were able to form sperm in a short time frame. ABSTRACT Introduction: Coarctation of the aorta (CoA) is a narrowing of the thoracic aorta that often manifests as discrete stenosis but may be tortuous or in long segment. The study aimed to evaluate pre and post-surgical aspects of pediatric patients submitted to CoA surgical correction and to identify possible predisposing factors for aortic recoarctation. Methods: Twenty-five patients were divided into groups according to presence (N=8) or absence (N=17) of recoarctation after surgical correction of CoA and evaluated according to clinical-demographic profile, vascular characteristics via computed angiotomography (CAT), and other pathological conditions. Results: Majority of males (64%), ≥ 15 days old (76%), ≥ 2.5 kg (80%). There was similarity between groups with and without recoarctation regarding sex (male: 87% vs. 53%; P=0.277), age (≥ 15 days: 62.5 vs. 82%; P=0.505), and weight (≥ 2.5 kg: 87.5 vs. 76.5; P=0,492). Altered values of aortic root/Valsalva diameter, proximal transverse arch, and distal isthmus, and normal values for aorta prevailed in preoperative CAT. Normal values for the aortic root/Valsalva sinus diameter were observed with and without recoarctation, the same for both groups regarding ascending and descending aorta in postoperative CAT. No significant difference for altered values of proximal transverse arch and alteration in distal isthmus was observed. Conclusion: No predictive risk for recoarctation was observed. Abstract: Assai (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) cultivars BRS-Pará (BRS-PA) and BRS-Pai d’Égua (BRS-PDE) were selected for cultivation in upland regions of the Amazon. Given these cultivars were developed from different progenitors, we postulated that they differ regarding water-deficit tolerance. To test this hypothesis, plants of both cultivars were evaluated under well-watered (control) and water-deficit conditions (pre-dawn leaf water potential of – 2.33 MPa). Relative to control, the water-deficit decreased net CO2 assimilation rate (A) and transpiration by 82% and 86% in both cultivars, while the stomatal conductance (gs) was reduced by 93% and 87% in stressed plants of BRS-PDE and BRS-PA. The water-deficit improved instantaneous water-use efficiency by 43% in both cultivars, while intrinsic water-use efficiency (A/gs) increased by 193% and 33% in BRS-PDE and BRS-PA. The water-deficit induced 44% increase in foliar proline and 27% decrease in soluble carbohydrates in both cultivars, while foliar sucrose decreased by 53% in BRS-PA and 16% in BRS-PDE in relation to control. The relative water content in stressed plants of both cultivars was decreased by 8.5% in relation to control. Resumo As cultivares de açaí (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) BRS-Pará (BRS-PA) e BRS-Pai d’Égua (BRS-PDE) foram selecionadas para cultivo em regiões de terra firme da Amazônia. Como essas cultivares foram desenvolvidas a partir de diferentesprogenitores,nós postulamos que essas cultivares podem diferir na tolerância ao déficithídrico. Para testar essa hipótese, plantas de ambas os cultivares foram avaliadas em condiçõesadequadas de irrigação (controle) e déficit hídrico (potencial hídrico foliar naantemanhã de – 2,33MPa). Abstract Reproductive control is one of the biggest challenges in tilapia production and triploidy was developed as an alternative to sterilization. In general, polyploids present chromosomal instability but for triploid Nile tilapia it has yet to be reported. This study evaluated the chromosomal instability from juveniles to adulthood, growth performance and gonadal status of tilapia hatched from eggs submitted or not to heat shock for triploid induction. Nile tilapia oocytes were fertilized (1,476 oocytes), half of the eggs were subjected to a four-minute shock in 41 °C water four minutes after fertilization and the other half were not (Control group). The eggs were incubated (at 27°C) and 160 larvae from the treated group hatched and survived after yolk sac absorption. The determination of ploidy was performed by flow cytometry at 85th (juveniles) and 301st (adults) days of age post yolk sac absorption. At the time of the first cytometry analysis there were 73 surviving juveniles from the treated group, and only 14 were confirmed triploid. However, at the analysis of adult ploidy, one out of 8 surviving adult tilapias from the 14 confirmed triploid juveniles remained triploid. Gonadal histology showed that the non-remaining triploids continued to produce gametes. The growth performance of triploid tilapia was initially superior to that of diploid tilapia during the juvenile phase, but similar in adults. Once the chromosome sets are lost and the tilapias become diploid again, at least in tissues with a high proliferation rate, such as the hematopoietic tissue that was analyzed (and possibly in gonads), all possible advantages of triploids are probably lost. ABSTRACT Most Brazilian municipalities do not have regulated areas for solid waste disposal in civil construction. Usually, residues are disposed of vacant lots and dumps, posing risks to the population health and the environment. Soils are the primary means for the disposal or recycling of waste, highlighting the importance of well-characterized soils and their respective landscape. This study aimed to establish a land suitability system for solid residues in civil construction and apply such information in a case study in Southeastern Brazil. An unprecedented digital soil map with a resolution of 30 m was created using the random forest classifier algorithm and soil field prospection information. A guide listing favorable soil-landscape attributes that most prevent soil erosion, water bodies or water table contamination was elaborated and discussed. Thus, such information was linked through a suitability system to classify areas with potential for receiving waste on a daily volume basis as follows: large size: >500 m³ day-1, medium size: >100 m³ day-1 and <300 m³ day-1, and small size <100 m³ day-1. Topography and soil depth were the most limiting factors of the areas in the case study. The proposed attributes as criteria for the suitability system complement the current state legislation. A total of 236 ha closer to the urban perimeter connected by roads in good condition were classified as suitable for managing medium- and small-scale daily volume, whose destination might reduce transportation and installation costs in the study area. Abstract Introduction It has been estimated that the proportion of blood donors in Brazil is below 2.0 %, lower than that recommended by the World Health Organization, which is between 3 % and 5 % of the population. Objective The aim of this study was to analyze the factors that can influence blood donation. Method This is an integrative review, whose bibliographic search was carried out through the Virtual Health Library, considering scientific articles indexed in the Latin American and Caribbean Literature in the Health Sciences database. Results This process was performed in July 2022 with term “blood donors” and 901 publications were identified, without delimitation of the study period or any other aspects. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 40 articles were fully reviewed. The studies were categorized according to the main content discussed in “characteristics and perspectives of donors”, “perspective of health professionals and services” and “loyalty strategies: marketing and communication in health”. Access to coherent information about the donation process was the motivational aspect evidenced in the three categories of analysis, that is, indispensable from the perspective of users, health professionals who work in blood therapy services and for marketing and communication in health. It is through the knowledge of the procedure that uncertainties and fear are decreased and loyal donors are increased. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: The magnitude of economic losses attributed to sleep problems and insufficient physical activity (PA) remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the association between insufficient PA, sleep problems, and direct healthcare costs. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between insufficient physical activity (PA), sleep problems, and direct healthcare costs among adults. DESIGN AND SETTING: Adults aged ≥ 50 years attended by the Brazilian National Health Service were tracked from 2010 to 2014. METHODS: Direct healthcare costs were assessed using medical records and expressed in US$. Insufficient PA and sleep problems were assessed through face-to-face interviews. Differences were identified using the analysis of covariance and variance for repeated measures. RESULTS: In total, 454 women and 166 men were enrolled. Sleep problems were reported by 28.9% (95%CI: 25.2% to 32.4%) of the sample, while insufficient PA was reported by 84.8% (95%CI: 82.1% to 87.6%). The combination of sleep problems and insufficient PA explained 2.3% of all healthcare costs spent on these patients from 2010 to 2014, which directly accounts for approximately US$ 4,765.01. CONCLUSION: The combination of sleep problems and insufficient PA plays an important role in increasing direct healthcare costs in adults. Public health stakeholders, policymakers, and health professionals can use these results to reinforce the need for strategies to improve sleep quality and increase PA, especially in nations that finance their National Health Systems. Abstract: This article aims to reflect on research data in the context of Archival Science and on the importance of production, management, transmission, and preservation of data in suitable environments, maintaining a safe and uninterrupted digital chain of custody so that data remain authentic and reliable over time and for reuse purposes. This is qualitative, exploratory research. Regarding the nature of the sources used, this is a bibliographic and documentary research. The article presents similarities and differences in the definitions of concepts related to the context of Reliable Digital Archival Repositories, for documentary collections, and Scientific Data Repositories, for datasets, and on the importance of interoperability between them, since each type of repository has its specificities. The article reflects on the importance of management, preservation, access, and reuse of digital archival documents in data format, both for reuse and to support managers in their decision-making, highlighting the importance of Data Management Plans. We conclude that although similar, many concepts differ when applied in the context of Trusted Digital Archival Repositories and Scientific Data Repositories. Resumo: Este artigo tem como objetivo fazer uma reflexão sobre os dados de pesquisa no contexto da Arquivologia e a importância da produção, gestão, transmissão e preservação dos dados em ambientes adequados, mantendo uma cadeia de custódia digital segura e ininterrupta para que os dados se mantenham autênticos e confiáveis ao longo do tempo, com fins de reuso. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, do tipo exploratória, que fez uso da pesquisa bibliográfica e documental. O artigo apresenta semelhanças e diferenças nas definições dos conceitos relacionados ao contexto dos Repositórios Arquivísticos Digitais Confiáveis, para acervos documentais, e dos Repositórios de Dados Científicos, para conjuntos de dados, e sobre a importância da interoperabilidade entre eles, uma vez que cada tipo de repositório possui suas especificidades. O artigo reflete a importância da gestão, preservação, acesso e reuso dos documentos arquivísticos digitais em formato de dados, tanto para reuso quanto para apoio aos gestores em suas tomadas de decisão, destacando a importância dos Planos de Gestão de Dados. Resumen: El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo verificar el papel mediador de la orientación a la dominancia social en la relación entre el núcleo de la tríada oscura y el ambientalismo. Participaron 305 personas con edades comprendidas entre 18 y 77 años (Medad = 26,4; DEedad = 11,25; 59,7 % mujeres). Los resultados indicaron que, entre los 8 rasgos de personalidad analizados considerando los modelos Big Five y Dark Triad, solo la psicopatía se correlacionó con el ambientalismo, que se correlacionó moderadamente con la orientación a la dominancia social. Considerando que los tres rasgos oscuros comparten déficits empáticos, baja amabilidad y honestidad/humildad, se probó el efecto del núcleo de la tríada oscura para la predicción del ambientalismo y se observaron efectos directos. Sin embargo, tales efectos directos no fueron estadísticamente significativos con la inclusión de la orientación a la dominancia social, configurando una mediación completa, ya que el núcleo oscuro predice indirectamente el ambientalismo. Por lo tanto, se observa que la dominancia social funciona como un mecanismo que permite a las personas con rasgos oscuros no preocuparse por el medio ambiente y explotarlo en beneficio propio.

Abstract: The present study aimed to verify the mediating role of social dominance orientation in the relationship between the core of the dark triad and environmentalism. Participants were 305 people aged between 18 and 77 years old (Mage = 26.4; SDage = 11.25; 59.7 % women). The results indicated that among the 8 personality traits analyzed, considering the Big Five and Dark Triad models, only psychopathy was correlated with environmentalism, which was moderately correlated with social dominance orientation. Considering that the three dark traits shared empathic deficits, low agreeableness and honesty/humility, the effect of the dark triad core was tested for the prediction of environmentalism, observing direct effects. However, such direct effects did not remain statistically significant with the inclusion of social dominance orientation, configuring a complete mediation, since the dark core indirectly predicted environmentalism. Therefore, it is observed that social dominance orientation works as a mechanism that allows people with dark traits not to worry about the environment, exploiting it for their own benefit.

Resumo: O presente estudo objetivou verificar o papel mediador da orientação à dominância social na relação entre o núcleo da tríade sombria da personalidade e o ambientalismo. Participaram 305 pessoas com idades entre 18 e 77 anos (Midade = 26,4; DPidade = 11,25; 59,7 % mulheres). Os resultados indicaram que entre os 8 traços de personalidade analisados, considerando os modelos dos Cinco Grandes Fatores e da Tríade Sombria, apenas a psicopatia se correlacionou com ambientalismo, sendo que este se correlacionou moderadamente com a orientação à dominância social. Considerando que os três traços sombrios são talhados por déficits empáticos, baixa amabilidade e honestidade/humildade, testou-se o efeito do núcleo da tríade sombria da personalidade para a predição do ambientalismo, observando-se efeitos diretos. Contudo, tais efeitos diretos não se mantiveram estatisticamente significativos com a inclusão da orientação à dominância social, configurando uma mediação completa, posto que o núcleo da tríade sombria predisse indiretamente o ambientalismo. Logo, observa-se que a orientação à dominância social funciona como um mecanismo que possibilita pessoas com traços sombrios não se preocuparem com o meio ambiente, explorando-o em benefício próprio.

RESUMO O objetivo desse estudo foi comparar os efeitos do treinamento funcional (TF) orientado à velocidade (VOTF) e orientado à força (SOTF) em diferentes parâmetros de corrida de mudança de direção (COD), capacidade de salto e velocidade linear em jogadores de futebol sub-20. Para isso, 22 jogadores foram randomizados em dois grupos: VOFT e SOFT. Os participantes foram avaliados no momento pré e no momento pós-intervenção no teste de corrida em L para o lado direito (CODLD) e para o lado esquerdo (CODLE) para avaliar o COD veloz (≤ 90°) e no teste de ziguezague para avaliar o COD força (> 90°). Altura de salto foi aferida pelo salto com contramovimento (CMJ) e pelo salto de agachamento (SJ). A velocidade máxima foi avaliada pelo teste de sprint em 20 metros. O índice de déficit de mudança de direção (COD déficit) foi calculado para todos os testes de COD. Ambos os grupos apresentaram melhora significativa ao longo do tempo no CODLD, no ziguezague teste, no COD déficit de CODLD e no COD déficit do ziguezague. O teste de sprint em 20 metros, o CODLE e o COD déficit de CODLE não diferiram significativamente para nenhum grupo em nenhum momento. Apesar de não apresentar diferença estatisticamente significativa ao longo do tempo, o CMJ apresentou tamanho de efeito pequeno para o VOFT e SOFT. Enquanto o SJ apresentou tamanho de efeito moderado para o VOFT e pequeno para o SOFT. Além disso, não houve diferença significativa entre grupos para nenhuma variável. Portanto conclui-se que a aplicação de protocolos de TF orientados para velocidade ou força como forma complementar ao treinamento técnico tático, ao longo de quatro semanas, promove mudanças significativas em diferentes parâmetros de corrida COD em atletas de futebol sub-20.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to compare the effects of velocity-oriented (VOTF) and strength-oriented (SOTF) functional training (TF) on different parameters of running change of direction (COD), jumping ability and linear velocity in under-20 soccer players. For this, 22 players were randomly assigned to VOFT and SOFT groups. The participants were evaluated at the pre- and post-intervention moment in the L-running test to the right side (CODLD) and to the left side (CODLE) to evaluate the fast COD (≤ 90°) and in the zigzag test to evaluate the strength COD (> 90°). Jump height was measured by countermovement jump (CMJ) and squat jump (SJ). Maximum speed was assessed by the 20-meter sprint test. The change of direction deficit index (COD deficit) was calculated for all COD tests. Both groups showed significant improvement over time in CODLD, zigzag test, COD-deficit CODLD, and COD zigzag deficit. The 20-meter sprint test, CODLE, and COD-deficit CODLE did not differ significantly for either group at any time point. Despite not showing a statistically significant difference over time, CMJ had a small effect size for VOFT and SOFT. At the same time, the SJ showed a moderate effect size for VOFT and a small effect size for SOFT. Furthermore, there was no significant difference between groups for any variable. Therefore, it is concluded that the application of FT protocols oriented towards speed or strength as a complement to tactical technical training, over four weeks, promotes significant changes in different COD running parameters in under-20 soccer players.

RESUMO O objetivo do estudo foi criar e determinar uma bateria de avaliação da coordenação motora em crianças com transtorno do espectro autista (BACMA). Este estudo é descritivo, transversal e exploratório para verificação da validade de conteúdo e de aparência do BACMA, por meio da metodologia Delphi, com consulta a um quadro de especialistas no tratamento de crianças com Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA). Os critérios de inclusão foram profissionais da área da saúde e educação formados, atuantes, mais de dois anos de experiência no atendimento de crianças com TEA e, como critério de exclusão, respostas incompletas e a não continuidade dos respondentes nas rodadas do Delphi. O quadro de especialistas foi constituído inicialmente por 23 profissionais (01 psicologia, 03 pedagogia, 05 fisioterapia e 14 educação física), todos com atuação relacionada a crianças com TEA. A versão final do BACMA é composta por quatro testes que se destinam a avaliar as habilidades motoras fundamentais: locomoção, manipulação, equilíbrio e salto, conforme o link https://bit.ly/bacmaresultado. Por fim o procedimento que determina a objetividade, alcançou um índice de concordância de 100% na quarta rodada, com um coeficiente ∝ de Cronbach= 0,99, o que indica uma confiabilidade estatisticamente elevada.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to create and determine a battery for assessing motor coordination in children with autism spectrum disorder (BACMA). This is a descriptive, cross-sectional and exploratory study to verify the validity of content and appearance of the BACMA, using the Delphi methodology, with consultation with a group of experts in the treatment of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The inclusion criteria were trained health and education professionals with more than two years of experience caring for children with ASD and, as an exclusion criterion, incomplete answers and non-continuity of respondents in the Delphi rounds. The panel of experts was initially made up of 23 professionals (01 psychology, 03 pedagogy, 05 physiotherapy and 14 physical education), all with work related to children with ASD. The final version of BACMA consists of four tests designed to assess fundamental motor skills: locomotion, manipulation, balance and jumping, according to the link https://bit.ly/bacmaresultado. Finally, the procedure determining objectivity reached an agreement rate of 100% in the fourth round, with a Cronbach's ∝ coefficient of 0.99, indicating statistically high reliability.
