ABSTRACT The aim of study was to determine the relationship between metabolic parameters, body weight and body growth of piglets at birth and weaning. The experiment included 80 piglets obtained from F1 generation sows. Body weight was measured at birth (BW0), 24h (BW1) after birth and on day 25 (at weaning, BW2). Blood sampling was performed at the beginning of life (3rd day after birth) and at weaning (21st day after birth). BW0 and BW1 positively correlated with cholesterol and negatively with urea values at the beginning of life and RBC values at weaning. BW2 positively correlates with albumin and cortisol values at the beginning of life, total proteins, and globulins at weaning, and negatively correlates with erythrocyte values at weaning. Piglet growth from birth to weaning (BWG2-0) correlates positively with total proteins, albumin, and cortisol at the beginning of life and total proteins at weaning. ROC analysis shows that MCHC, TPROT, GLOB, CHOL and AST at the beginning of life can distinguish fast-growing from slow-growing piglets from birth to weaning period. The use of blood parameters enables early recognition of growth rate in piglets, which can help to optimize all further steps to achieve the best possible growth.

RESUMO O objetivo do estudo foi determinar a relação entre parâmetros metabólicos, peso corporal e crescimento corporal de leitões ao nascimento e desmame. A experiência incluiu 80 leitões obtidos de porcas da geração F1. O peso corporal foi medido ao nascimento (BW0), 24h (BW1) após o nascimento e no dia 25 (no desmame, BW2). A amostragem de sangue foi realizada no início da vida (3º dia após o nascimento) e no desmame (21º dia após o nascimento). BW0 e BW1 correlacionaram-se positivamente com o colesterol e negativamente com os valores de uréia no início da vida e com os valores de hemácias no desmame. BW2 correlaciona-se positivamente com os valores de albumina e cortisol no início da vida, proteínas totais e globulinas no desmame, e negativamente com os valores de eritrócitos no desmame. O crescimento do leitão desde o nascimento até o desmame (BWG2-0) se correlaciona positivamente com as proteínas totais, albumina e cortisol no início da vida e com as proteínas totais no desmame. A análise ROC mostra que MCHC, TPROT, GLOB, CHOL e AST no início da vida pode distinguir leitões de crescimento rápido de leitões de crescimento lento desde o nascimento até o desmame. O uso de parâmetros sanguíneos permite o reconhecimento precoce da taxa de crescimento em leitões, o que pode ajudar a otimizar todas as etapas posteriores para alcançar o melhor crescimento possível.

RESUMO A redução da taxa de mortalidade é de grande importância econômica para a suinocultura. Portanto, é necessário definir as condições na unidade de parto com base no desempenho dos leitões, para serem parâmetros hematológicos e bioquímicos específicos. Portanto, o objetivo deste trabalho é examinar a importância do uso de absorvente de umidade na pele e sua influência na prevenção da hipotermia, que causa grandes perdas econômicas na produção de suínos. A experiência foi montada em uma fazenda comercial na Sérvia, e incluiu 92 porcos divididos no grupo experimental e de controle. Os valores de temperatura corporal, pesos corporais e parâmetros sanguíneos foram monitorados. Os valores obtidos indicam que existe uma correlação significativamente positiva entre os valores da temperatura corporal e dos pesos corporais, e a temperatura corporal mostrou um aumento significativamente maior no grupo experimental em comparação com o grupo de controle. Os resultados obtidos a partir de parâmetros hematológicos e bioquímicos fornecem uma imagem mais clara dos processos metabólicos em leitões na unidade de parto e podem ser usados para melhorar ainda mais a produção de suínos e como um complemento ao melhoramento genético.

ABSTRACT Reducing the mortality rate is of a great economic importance for pig farming. Therefore, it is necessary to define the conditions in the farrowing unit based on the performance of the piglets, and specific hematological and biochemical parameters. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to examine the importance of using skin moisture absorbent and its influence in preventing hypothermia, which causes great economic losses in pig production. The experiment was set up on a commercial farm in Serbia and included 92 pigs divided into the experimental and control group. Body temperature values, body weight and blood parameters were monitored. The obtained values indicate that there is a significantly positive correlation of body temperature change and body weight values, and body temperature showed a significantly higher increase in the experimental group compared to the control group. The results obtained from hematological and biochemical parameters provide a clearer picture of the metabolic processes in piglets in the farrowing unit and can be used to further improve pig production and as a complement to genetic enhancement.

RESUMO Estudos recentes concentraram no uso de plasma seminal para aumentar a fertilidade de porcos após inseminação artificial intracervical clássica (AI). O objetivo do presente estudo foi investigar a influência da infusão de plasma seminal, antes da aplicação da dose de AI convencional, na taxa de fertilidade de porcas. 114 porcas foram tratadas com infusão intrauterina de 30ml plasma seminal, e 114 porcas de controle receberam infusão de solução fisiológica (PS) imediatamente antes da aplicação da dose convencional de AI. O experimento foi realizado em uma fazenda de porcos comercial na Serbia, que é composta de 1.500 porcas no rebanho de reprodução. A infusão intrauterina de plasma seminal produziu uma taxa de fertilidade (93,8%) significativamente maior (P<0.05), e significativamente mais (P<0.01) leitões nascidos vivos por ninhada (12,27) comparado com as porcas de controle (83,33% taxa de fertilidade e 10,48 leitões). Os resultados mostram que infusão intrauterina com plasma seminal pode ser uma ferramenta útil para aumentar a taxa de fertilidade em porcas inseminadas artificialmente, sob as condições de prática de produção intensiva de porcos.

ABSTRACT Recent studies have focused on the use of seminal plasma to increase sow fertility after classical intracervical artificial insemination (AI). The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of seminal plasma infusion, prior to the application of conventional AI dose, on the fertility rate in sows. A total of 114 sows were treated with intrauterine infusion of 30ml seminal plasma (SP), while 114 control sows were infused by physiological solution (PS), immediately before the application of conventional AI dose. The experiment was conducted at one commercial pig farm in Serbia, which is comprised of 1,500 sows in the breeding herd. Intrauterine infusion of seminal plasma produced significantly (P<0.05) higher farrowing rate (93.8%) and significantly (P<0.01) more live-born piglets per litter (12.27), compared with the control sows (83.33% farrowing rate and 10.48 piglets). The present results show that intrauterine infusion of seminal plasma can be a useful tool for increasing the fertility rate in artificially inseminated sows, under the conditions of practical intensive pig production.

RESUMO A eficácia reprodutiva das porcas dita o nível de rentabilidade da própria produção, e o momento do teste e seleção de leitoas para reprodução (como os pais de uma geração futura) representa um momento muito importante. Dado o fato de que a seleção de leitoas para criação é parcialmente baseada no ganho de peso no teste, neste estudo examinamos a influência de um ganho de peso diário de leitoas no teste da manifestação de importantes características reprodutivas - o tamanho da ninhada da primeira e das outras paridades, assim como a porcentagem de porcas que deram à luz em relação ao processo de criação anterior. Os dados das 11637 leitoas testadas que completaram o teste de desempenho foram utilizados para o teste. As características estudadas foram: o ganho de peso ao final do teste, o número de leitões nascidos vivos, o número de leitões natimortos e o número de leitões desmamados na primeira ninhada e o número total de leitões nascidos vivos , o número total de leitões natimortos e o número total de leitões desmamados. Os resultados obtidos neste estudo mostraram o efeito do ganho de peso no teste de eficácia reprodutiva no número de leitões nascidos vivos na primeira e da segunda à nona paridade, bem como a porcentagem de porcas incluídas na próximo processo de criação. Ao incluir todas as variáveis independentes selecionadas que mostraram a significância estatística adequada em correlação com a variável dependente, o coeficiente de determinação sobe para um valor de 0.098 que representa 9.80% da influência sobre a variável dependente, que pode ser explicada pela variável independente, que leva à conclusão de que a força de ligação entre a variável "média viva" e todas as variáveis independentes: "o número de ninhadas", a profundidade MLD "e" a espessura de gordura "é muito fraca, o que não é raro caso em regressão múltipla.

ABSTRACT Reproductive efficacy of sows dictates the level of profitability of the production itself, and the moment of testing and selection of gilts for breeding (as the parents of a future generation), represents a very important moment. Given the fact that the selection of gilts for breeding is partly based on the weight-gain in the test, in this study we examined the influence of a daily weight-gain of gilts in the test of the manifestation of important reproductive characteristics - the size of the litter of the first and the other parities, as well as the percentage of sows that gave birth in relation to previous breeding process. Data of the 11637 tested gilts that completed the performance test have been used for the test. The studied characteristics were: the weight-gain at the end of the test, the number of live-born piglets, the number of stillborn piglets and the number of grown-weaned piglets in the first litter and the total number of live-born piglets, the total number of stillborn piglets and the total number of grown-weaned piglets. The results obtained in this study showed the effect of weight-gain in the reproductive efficacy test in the number of the live-born piglets in the first and from the 2nd to the 9th parity, as well as the percentage of the sows included in the next breeding process. By including all selected independent variables that showed the adequate statistical significance in correlation with the dependent variable, the determination coefficient rises to a value of 0.098 which represents 9.80% of the influence on the dependent variable, that can be explained by the independent variable, which leads to the conclusion that the binding strength between the variable "average live" and all the independent variables: “the number of litters”, the MLD depth” and “the back-fat thickness”, is very weak, which is not a rare case in multiple regression.

Abstract Objectives: the aims of the study were to provide gender- and age-specific physical fitness levels among Serbian schoolchildren and to identify prevalence of overweight and obesity. Methods: a sample of 6,188 boys and 6,023 girls aged nine to 14 years were assessed using the physical fitness battery established through the National Fitness Project of Serbia. Physical fitness levels were determined for body height, body weight and body mass index and for six physical fitness tests (sit and reach, 4 x 10 m shuttle run, standing long jump, 30 sec sit-ups, bent arm hang, 20-m shuttle run). Centile smoothed curves for the 5rd, 25th, 50th, 75th and 95th percentiles were calculated using Cole's LMS method. Prevalence of overweight and obesity was identified applying cut-off points for children (International Obesity Task Force). Results: the results revealed that anthropometric measures were higher in boys than in girls. In addition, boys had better physical fitness levels for all tests except for the sit and reach test, where girls performed slightly better. The overall prevalence of overweight and obesity amounts to 24.8% (19.8% overweight and 5% obese). With respect to gender, the prevalence of overweight and obesity was higher in boys (27%) compared to girls (22.4%). Conclusion: the presented data are the most up-to-date gender- and age-specific physical fitness levels for Serbian schoolchildren aged 9-14 years. The findings regarding prevalence in overweight and obesity indicated an alarming trend when compared to similar data from other similar studies (in European countries).

Resumen Objetivos: los objetivos del estudio fueron evaluar los niveles de condición física diferenciados por sexo y edad de estudiantes de escuela primaria de Serbia e identificar la prevalencia de sobrepeso y obesidad. Método: una muestra de 6.188 niños y 6.023 niñas de entre nueve y 14 años fueron evaluados mediante una batería de test físicos establecidos por el Proyecto Nacional de Condición Física de Serbia. Se evaluó la condición física mediante la altura,el peso, el índice de masa corporal y seis test físicos. Se calcularon curvas suavizadas para los percentiles 5, 25, 50, 75 y 95 usando el método de Cole. La prevalencia de sobrepeso y obesidad fue identificada aplicando los puntos de corte para niños (International Obesity Task Force). Resultados: los resultados revelaron medidas antropométricas mayores en niños que en niñas. Además, los niños tuvieron mejores niveles de condición física en todos los test, con la única excepción del sit and reach, que las niñas realizaron ligeramente mejor. La prevalencia de sobrepeso y obesidad fue del 24,8% (19,8% sobrepeso y 5% obesidad). Respecto al género, la prevalencia de sobrepeso y obesidad fue superior en los niños (27%) en comparación con las niñas (22,4%). Conclusión: los datos presentados son los más actualizados respecto a los niveles de condición física específicos para el género y la edad de niños estudiantes de Serbia de entre nueve y 14 años. Los hallazgos respecto a la prevalencia de sobrepeso y obesidad indican una tendencia alarmante frente a datos similares de otros estudios equivalentes (en países europeos).

Resumo Introdução: Um grande número de pessoas em todo o mundo luta diariamente para livrar-se de seu vício em substâncias psicoativas ilegais. Com o objetivo de criar uma atmosfera de supervisão melhorada, comunicação estabelecida e melhora da qualidade de vida para drogaditos, foram criados centros que fornecem a substância substitutiva metadona. Objetivo: Avaliar a voz de drogaditos que recebem terapia com metadona através de parâmetros subjetivos e objetivos, para determinar o eventual dano à voz, bem como determinar se os parâmetros vocais acústicos subjetivos e objetivos estão interligados e como isso ocorre. Método: A pesquisa incluiu 34 participantes, usuários de terapia com metadona, de ambos os sexos. A avaliação vocal subjetiva consistiu na avaliação do tom (pitch) e clareza da voz, enquanto a análise acústica subjetiva consistiu no uso da escala RSA, de rugosidade, soprosidade e aspereza. A análise acústica objetiva foi realizada após a gravação e análise da vocalização ininterrupta de /a/ com duração de no mínimo três segundos, com o software GllotisController. Resultados: A análise acústica subjetiva utilizando a escala RSA mostrou valores patológicos em 52,9% de homens e 47% em mulheres. Os valores médios dos parâmetros rugosidade, soprosidade e aspereza para toda a amostra foram 0,91, 0,38 e 0,50, respectivamente. O parâmetro rugosidade mais baixo esteve associado a valores mais altos de frequência fundamental (f0) e menor jitter e o shimmer (p < 0,05). Entre o parâmetro soprosidade e o jitter (p < 0,01) e o shimmer (p < 0,05) houve uma correlação estatisticamente significante, bem como entre o parâmetro aspereza e o jitter (p < 0,01). Conclusão: Foi encontrada uma correlação estatisticamente significante entre a avaliação vocal subjetiva da clareza e do tom (pitch) da voz e os parâmetros da avaliação vocal acústica objetiva, bem como os parâmetros da análise vocal acústica subjetiva utilizando a escala de rugosidade, soprosidade e aspereza e os parâmetros acústicos objetivos.

Abstract Introduction: A large number of people around the world struggle daily to become free of their addiction to illegal psychoactive substances. In order to create an atmosphere of improved supervision, established communication and improved quality of life for drug addicts, centers have been set up to provide methadone as a substitute. Objective: The aim of the research was to assess the vocal features of drug addicts on methadone therapy via subjective and objective parameters, to ascertain if vocal damage has occurred and to determine whether subjective and objective acoustic vocal parameters are related, and how. Methods: The research included 34 adults of both genders who were undergoing methadone treatment. A subjective vocal evaluation assessed voice pitch and clarity, while the subjective acoustic analysis utilized the Roughness-Breathiness-Hoarseness scale of roughness-breathiness-hoarseness. Objective acoustic analysis was conducted after recording and analyzing an uninterrupted vocal /a/ of at least three seconds duration, using the "GllotisController" software. Results: The subjective acoustic analysis using the Roughness-Breathiness-Hoarseness scale showed pathological values in 52.9% male and 47% female participants. The average values of the roughness-breathiness-hoarseness for the entire sample were 0.91, 0.38 and 0.50, respectively. Lower roughness was associated with a higher fundamental frequency (f0) and lower jitter and shimmer values (p < 0.05). There was a statistically significant correlation between breathiness, jitter (p < 0.01) and shimmer (p < 0.05), and between hoarseness and jitter (p < 0.01). Conclusion: A statistically significant correlation was found between the two subjective vocal assessments, voice clarity and pitch, and Roughness-Breathiness-Hoarseness scale, and the parameters of the objective acoustic vocal assessment.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of PA and EE in Serbian urban adolescents, using an objective measure. In particular, we explored gender and weight status related differences in PA level and EE among Serbian adolescents. In addition, their PA and EE obtained during schooldays and weekends were compared. Methods: From the representative sample of elementary schools in Belgrade, one school was selected by random sampling for the purpose of the objective PA assessment. The sample included 115 students (53 boys and 62 girls) of the average age 14.0 (0.6) years. EE and the duration of PA levels were assessed by the Sense Wear PRO3 Armband device (Body Media Inc., Pittsburgh, PA, USA). IOTF cut-off points were used to define subjects as non-overweight, overweight or obese. Analysis of variance was applied to examine the impacts of gender and weight status on EE and PA duration. Results: Adolescents spent most of the time in sedentary regime 241.7 ± 62.8 min/day, on average and they were totally physically active for 196.0 ± 73.5 min/day. Boys accumulated more PA than girls and during schooldays, the PA of all adolescents was higher than during weekend days. OW girls spent less time in total PA, MPA, and VVPA. On the other hand, NW and OW boys differed only in VVPA. Consequently, OW girls had lower energy expenditure compared with their NW peers, but no such differences in boys were found. Discussion: The results of this study indicate that low PA activity might be a more important factor in propagation of overweight in girls than boys, at least in early adolescent period. PA in girls should be strongly encouraged, with a special focus on vigorous PA during weekends.

Introducción: El objetivo de este estudio era evaluar el nivel de AF (actividad física) y DE (desgaste energético) en adolescentes urbanos serbios, usando una medida objetiva. En particular, exploramos las diferencias relacionadas con género y peso en el nivel de AF y DE entre los adolescentes serbios. Además, se comparó la AF y DE obtenidos durante los días de colegio y durante los fines de semana. Métodos: A partir de la muestra representativa de los colegios de primaria de Belgrado, se seleccionó un colegio aleatoriamente para la evaluación de la AF objetivo. La muestra incluyó a 115 estudiantes (53 niños y 62 niñas) con una edad media de 14,0 (0,6) años. Los niveles de DE y la duración de la AF fueron evaluados mediante el dispositivo de detección en el brazo Sense Wear PRO3 Armband device (Body Media Inc., Pittsburgh, AF, USA). Se emplearon puntos de selección IOTF para definir a los sujetos como sin sobrepeso, con sobrepeso u obesos. Se aplicó el análisis de la varianza para examinar los impactos de género y peso sobre el DE y la duración de la AF. Resultados: Los adolescentes pasan la mayor parte del tiempo en un régimen sedentario 241,7 ± 62,8 min/día como media, y su actividad física total fue de 196,0 ± 73,5 min/día. Los niños acumularon más AF que las niñas durante los días de colegio, y la AF de todos los adolescentes fue superior que en los días del fin de semana. Las niñas con sobrepeso pasaron menos tiempo en AF total, MAF, y VVAF. Por su parte, los niños con peso normal y sobrepeso difirieron solo en VVAF. Consecuentemente, las niñas con sobrepeso presentaron un menor desgaste energético en comparación con aquellas con peso normal, pero no se encontró tanta diferencia en niños. Debate: Los resultados de este estudio indican que una baja AF podría ser un factor más importante en la propagación del sobrepeso en niñas que en niños, por lo menos en el periodo preadolescente. Se debería fomentar la AF entre las niñas, con especial atención a una AF vigorosa durante los fines de semana.
