Abstract After performing localized repairs, it is customary to observe the reappearance of corrosion points in the region adjacent to the repaired area, a situation usually called the incipient anode phenomenon. Although there are several studies have on the subject, there are still controversial aspects regarding its causes, location, and progression over time. To investigate these gaps in knowledge, samples were molded with unrepaired chloride-contaminated substrate and repaired with repair mortar containing 0%, 10%, and 20% binder replacement with rice husk ash (RHA). Then, measurements of the electrochemical variables of density and corrosion potential were carried out, as well as the destructive inspection of part of the samples. After the measurements, an increase in corrosion rates was observed after the repair, in the repair-substrate interface. Resumo Após a realização de reparos localizados, costuma-se observar o ressurgimento de pontos de corrosão na região adjacente à área reparada, situação usualmente denominada ânodo incipiente. Embora tenham sido feitas diversas pesquisas a respeito do tema, ainda restam controversos aspectos em relação às suas causas, localização e progressão no tempo. Abstract Concrete is a material susceptible to different degradation mechanisms that can lead to the formation of expansive products resulting from external sulfate attack (ESA). In this context, supplementary cementing materials (SCMs), like fly ash, metakaolin, silica fume, and rice husk ash, have effectively suppressed the effects caused by ESA. However, each SCM may present different behavior depending on the exposure conditions, sulfate type, SO 4 2- concentration, etc. Thus, this study presents a multicriteria decision-making analysis of fixed binder content for mortars (1: 3.2 a/agl=0.60) aiming to achieve the best performance against ESA (exposure to Na 2 SO 4 or MgSO 4 ). RESUMO A salinidade afeta processos fisiológicos, como a fotossíntese, em diversas culturas agrícolas, como o sorgo, em todo o mundo. Dessa forma, técnicas mitigadoras como o condicionamento de sementes com peróxido de hidrogênio (H2O2) podem aumentar a tolerância das plantas ao estresse salino. Assim, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o condicionamento de sementes de sorgo com peróxido de hidrogênio nas trocas gasosas e na fitomassa da planta sob estresse salino. ABSTRACT Effluent from fish farming with saline water is a source of water, also rich in organic matter and nutrients, that can be used in irrigation of cultivated plants and even fully or partially replace mineral fertilization. The objective was to evaluate the growth, biomass production and quality of P. maximum cultivars fertigated with fish farming effluent in a greenhouse experiment, using a randomized block design with eight replicates. Treatments were arranged in a split-split-plot scheme, with three irrigation managements in the plot (irrigation with public-supply water, irrigation with public-supply water + conventional fertilization, and irrigation with fish farming effluent), three cultivars of P. maximum (Tanzania, Mombasa, and Massai) in the sub-plot, and four cutting times in the sub-sub-plot (45, 90, 135, and 180 days after sowing). Plant height, number of tillers, production of fresh biomass, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, ether extract, crude protein, dry matter, and mineral matter contents were analyzed. Abstract: Positional accuracy of cartographic products is typically evaluated using positional discrepancies and point-based techniques. However, using linear features has some advantages over the point-based method, such as a greater amount of geometric and positional information and the fact that approximately 80% of the features on a cartographic basis are lines. Despite these advantages, important parameters for evaluating accuracy using lines have not yet been established or determined, such as the spatial distribution pattern, although it is a relevant factor that can affect the results and determine the validity of an evaluation process. This study proposes a method based on the modification of the Nearest Neighbor Method for points, which can be used to evaluate the spatial distribution pattern of linear features. Instead of the traditional Euclidean distance used by the method for points, the method proposes using the Hausdorff Distance as a measure of the spacing between lines. The proposed method, called Nearest Neighbor Method for Linear Features (NNMLF), was applied to simulated and real data. Abstract Background: In pulmonary hypertension (PH), the identification of easily obtainable prognostic markers associated with right ventricular (RV) dysfunction and survival is needed. Objective: To evaluate the association of red cell distribution width (RDW) with clinical, echocardiographic parameters and survival in patients with pre-capillary PH, with the development of a mortality prediction model. Methods: Observational, longitudinal, and prospective study conducted from May 2019 to December 2022. Thirty-four patients with pre-capillary PH underwent two-dimensional echocardiography and complete blood count. A cutoff point of 14.5% was considered to define RDW as altered (≥14.5%) or normal (<14.5%). P values <0.05 were considered significant. Results: The median RDW was 14.4%. There was a significant difference in peripheral arterial oxygen saturation (SpO2) (p=0.028), RV strain (p=0.047), and pericardial effusion (p=0.002) between the normal and elevated RDW groups. During a median follow-up of 15 months, 20.6% died. Patients with increased RDW had a shorter overall survival (44.7%, log-rank p=0.019), which was a predictor of mortality in univariate Cox regression (HR 8.55, p=0.048). The addition of RV strain <16% and SpO2 ≤93% to the model including RDW alone showed incremental value in predicting mortality (χ2=8.2, p=0.049; χ2=12.4, p=0.041), with increased area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (0.729 vs. 0.837 vs. 0.909) and decreased probability of survival (44.7% vs. 35.6% vs. 25%, log-rank p=0.019). Resumo Fundamento: Na hipertensão pulmonar (HP), é necessária a identificação de marcadores prognósticos de fácil obtenção associados com disfunção do ventrículo direito (VD) e sobrevida. Objetivo: Avaliar a associação do índice de anisocitose eritrocitária (RDW, do inglês red cell distribution width) com parâmetros ecocardiográficos e sobrevida em pacientes com HP pré-capilar, com o desenvolvimento de um modelo de predição de mortalidade. Métodos: Estudo observacional, longitudinal, prospectivo, conduzido entre maio de 2019 e dezembro de 2022. Trinta e quatro pacientes com HP pré-capilar submeteram-se à realização de ecocardiograma bidimensional e hemograma. Um ponto de corte de 14,5% foi adotado para definir o RDW como alterado (≥14,5%) ou normal (<14,5%). Valores de p<0,05 foram considerados significativos. Resultados: O RDW médio foi 14,4%. Houve uma diferença significativa na saturação periférica de oxigênio (SpO2) (p=0,028), strain do VD (p=0,047) e derrame pericárdico (p=0,002) entre os grupos com RDW normal e elevado. Durante um período mediano de 15 meses, 20,6% dos pacientes foram a óbito. Abstract Background There is a remarkable variability in the frequency of HLA-B27 positivity in patients with spondyloarthritis (SpA), which may be associated with different clinical presentations worldwide. However, there is a lack of data considering ethnicity and sex on the evaluation of the main clinical and prognostic outcomes in mixed-race populations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of HLA-B27 and its correlation with disease parameters in a large population of patients from the Brazilian Registry of Spondyloarthritis (RBE). Methods The RBE is a multicenter, observational, prospective cohort that enrolled patients with SpA from 46 centers representing all five geographic regions of Brazil. The inclusion criteria were as follow: (1) diagnosis of axSpA by an expert rheumatologist; (2) age ≥18 years; (3) classification according to ASAS axial. The following data were collected via a standardized protocol: demographic data, disease parameters and treatment historical. Results A total of 1096 patients were included, with 73.4% HLA-B27 positivity and a mean age of 44.4 (±13.2) years. Positive HLA-B27 was significantly associated with male sex, earlier age at disease onset and diagnosis, uveitis, and family history of SpA. Conversely, negative HLA-B27 was associated with psoriasis, higher peripheral involvement and disease activity, worse quality of life and mobility. Conclusions Our data showed that HLA-B27 positivity was associated with a classic axSpA pattern quite similar to that of Caucasian axSpA patients around the world. Utilizando como exemplo a institucionalização da US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) nos Estados Unidos, o artigo se baseia na estruturação do método para sistematizar o teste da teoria do Novo Liberalismo de Moravcsik (1997). O texto apresenta o caso de forma estruturada, demonstrando como o PT pode ser aplicado em estudos centrados na teoria. Abstract The present study aimed to investigate the socioeconomic and obstetric characteristics of adolescent mothers and the complications they cause to maternal and neonatal health. This baseline data analysis of the MINA-Brazil birth cohort was conducted in the municipality of Cruzeiro do Sul, state of Acre, Brazil. The chi-square test was used to compare characteristics of adolescent and adult postpartum women, and multiple Poisson regression models with robust variance were used to assess associated factors. Resumo O objetivo do estudo foi investigar as características socioeconômicas e obstétricas de parturientes adolescentes e suas complicações sobre a saúde materna e neonatal. Trata-se de uma análise de dados da linha de base da coorte de nascimentos MINA-Brasil conduzida no município de Cruzeiro do Sul, estado do Acre. Utilizou-se teste qui-quadrado para comparar características das puérperas adolescentes com as adultas e modelos múltiplos de regressão de Poisson com variância robusta para avaliar fatores associados. Entre as puérperas estudadas, 26,2% (IC95%: 24,0-28,4) eram adolescentes. Abstract Does French legislation encourage integration and post-national citizenship? Although French national identity and integration literature reaffirms the exhaustion of the French model and politics for integration, and although traces of economic and social segregation are still observed, data from the Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques and the Migrant Integration Policy Index indicate instead a growing care, from 2015 onwards, to include non-nationals into French society. In light of this mismatch between literature and data, this study tests the hypothesis that the legislative acts published by Paris display a propensity towards welcoming and guaranteeing rights regardless of the immigrants’ nationality. To that end, our research design is multi-method. First, we applied content analysis to 40 regulations referring to immigration, nationality, and citizenship in the period from 2001 to 2022. Then, correspondence analysis was used to gauge the correlation between the proposed categories. Corroborating our hypotheses, the results suggest that (i) French laws, decrees, and ordinances have set norms that are more focused on respecting and welcoming immigrants; and that (ii) there is a correlation between the norms that include non-nationals and those that dissociate the guarantee of rights from nationality. ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized for the first time, using extracts from the leaf and peel of Plinia cauliflora (jabuticaba) fruit by varying the pH level of the reaction medium. The powders were obtained after calcination at 400 ºC and characterized by thermogravimetry (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results indicate that the use of jabuticaba leaf extract favored the stabilization of nanoparticles, providing smaller crystallite sizes and lower crystallinity. Crystallite sizes smaller than 50 nm were obtained using the leaf extract with pH level adjusted to 7 and 10. The morphology was strongly affected by both the extracts and the pH levels of the medium, and showed a flower-like shape when using jabuticaba peel extract at pH 7. The coinfection between malaria (ML) and arboviral diseases represents a major global public health problem, particularly in tropical and subtropical countries. Despite its relevance, this topic is still insufficiently discussed in the current literature. Here, we aimed to investigate the worldwide distribution, symptoms, and diagnosis during coinfection between ML and arboviral diseases. We conducted a systematic review following the Preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) statement and assessed the selection and eligibility criteria, created and diagrammed maps, and analysed major symptoms with 95% confidence intervals (CI) using prevalence ratio and effect size, also performing latent class analysis. A total of 85,485 studies were retrieved, of which 56 were included: 57.14% in Asia, 25% in Africa, 14.30% in South America, and 3.56% in Europe. A total of 746 individuals were reported to be coinfected with Plasmodium and arbovirus. Concurrent ML, Dengue (DEN), Chikungunya (CHIK), and Zika (ZIK) patients are more likely to present headache and skin rash. Regarding diagnosis, 58,253 were made, of which 38,176 were positive (ML and at least one arboviral disease). Abstract Introduction Patients with psoriatic arthritis have some lipid metabolism changes and higher risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and cardiovascular diseases, regardless of traditional risk factors, suggesting that chronic inflammation itself plays a central role concerning the atherosclerosis. However, there is a lack of information regarding atherogenic pattern and lipoprotein subfractions burden in these individuals. Aim To evaluate the HDL and LDL-cholesterol plasmatic levels and their subfractions after a nutritional intervention in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Methods This was a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial of a 12-week nutritional intervention. PsA patients were randomly assigned to 1-Placebo: 1 g of soybean oil daily, no dietetic intervention; 2-Diet + Supplementation: an individualized diet, supplemented with 604 mg of omega-3 fatty acids, three times a day; and 3-Diet + Placebo: individualized diet + 1 g of soybean oil. The LDL subfractions were classified as non-atherogenic (NAth), atherogenic (Ath) or highly atherogenic (HAth), whereas the HDL subfractions were classified as small, medium, or large particles, according to the current recommendation based on lipoproteins electrophoresis. Results A total of 91 patients were included in the study. About 62% of patients (n = 56) had an Ath or HAth profile and the main risk factors associated were male gender, longer skin disease duration and higher BMI. Thirty-two patients (35%) had a high-risk lipoprotein profile despite having LDL plasmatic levels below 100 mg/dL. The 12-week nutritional intervention did not alter the LDL subfractions. However, there were significant improvement of HDL subfractions. Conclusion Recognizing the pro-atherogenic subfractions LDL pattern could be a relevant strategy for identifying PsA patients with higher cardiovascular risk, regardless total LDL plasmatic levels and disease activity. In addition, a short-term nutritional intervention based on supervised and individualized diet added to omega-3 fatty acids changed positively the HDLLARGE subfractions, while LDLLARGE subfraction was improved in hypercholesterolemic individuals. ABSTRACT Purpose: Shock, cardiovascular problems, and respiratory failure constitute the main causes of death in patients cared in medical emergency rooms. Patients commonly require orotracheal intubation (OTI), a fact that has been intensified by diseases that generate important and fatal hemodynamic and respiratory problems in the affected patient. Methods: Although etomidate (ETO) is a highly used anesthetic for OTI, its use remains controversial in several scenarios. Some studies refer to an increase in mortality with its use in critically patients, while others do not refer to a difference. Therefore, we evaluated the mortality of patients submitted to OTI in the public hospital of a public federal university, with the use of ETO and other sedative-hypnotic drugs used in the induction of the performance of OTI, with the in-hospital mortality of patients cared in hospital. Results: The results demonstrate that the use of ETO as a hypnotic for OTI in the emergency room is not associated with a significant difference in morbidity or early mortality, within 30 days of hospitalization, compared with other hypnotics.
