Cancer is one of the major causes of death worldwide, and breast cancer is the most prevalent and deadly type among women. Despite the side effects and the phenomena of chemoresistance associated with the drugs involved, chemotherapy remains the main therapeutic strategy to combat and control breast cancer. Therefore, several new classes of compounds against breast cancer have been explored, in an effort to identify new drug candidates with alternative mechanisms of action. Abstract Objective: To analyze the association between osteolysis at the prosthesis interfaces, as determined by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with multiacquisition variable-resonance image combination selective (MAVRIC-SL) sequences, and clinical severity after knee or hip arthroplasty, as well as to assess interobserver and intraobserver agreement on periprosthetic bone resorption. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 47 patients (49 joints) under postoperative follow-up after knee or hip arthroplasty, with chronic pain, between March 2019 and August 2020. All of the patients completed the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) questionnaire. The component interfaces were evaluated and ordered into two groups: osseointegrated and osteolytic. Nonparametric tests were used. Results: There were significant differences between the two groups in terms of the mean WOMAC scores: total (p = 0.010); stiffness domain (p = 0.047); and function (p = 0.011) domains. There was substantial interobserver and intraobserver agreement for most analyses of the components. Conclusion: Periprosthetic osteolysis appears to be associated with clinical complaints of pain in the post-arthroplasty scenario, and MAVRIC-SL provides reproducible assessments. It could prove to be an important tool for orthopedists to use in the evaluation of challenging cases of chronic pain after arthroplasty.

Resumo Objetivo: Analisar associação entre osteólise nas interfaces protéticas por ressonância magnética com sequências MAVRIC-SL e a gravidade clínica dos pacientes submetidos a artroplastias de joelho ou quadril. Determinar concordância intraobservador e interobservador na reabsorção óssea peri-implante. Materiais e Métodos: Foi realizado estudo transversal entre março de 2019 e agosto de 2020, com 47 pacientes (49 articulações) em seguimento pós-operatório de artroplastias de joelho ou quadril, com dor crônica, que responderam ao questionário WOMAC. As interfaces dos componentes foram avaliadas e definiram dois grupos: osteointegrado e osteólise. Testes não paramétricos foram usados. Resultados: Houve diferença significativa na média do escore WOMAC entre os grupos (p = 0,010), assim como nos domínios rigidez (p = 0,047) e função (p = 0,011). Resumo Objetivo analisar as representações sociais, para homens e mulheres idosos, acerca da violência na velhice. Método estudo qualitativo baseado no referencial teórico-metodológico das representações sociais. Participaram 40 idosos usuários de Unidades de Saúde da Família em João Pessoa-PB, Brasil, através de entrevistas individuais, organizadas e submetidas ao software IRAMUTEQ, por meio da Classificação Hierárquica Descendente. Resultados a análise apontou cinco classes: Suscetibilidade da pessoa idosa; Prevenção da violência; Responsabilidade social; Expressão social da violência ao idoso; e Violência intrafamiliar. Os dados denotam que as representações da violência são expressas por fatores individuais, comunitários e relacionais/sociais, revelando algumas diferenças de gênero. Conclusões e implicações para a prática percebe-se que o gênero é elemento significativo nas representações. Enquanto os homens indicaram a necessidade de prevenção do fenômeno por meio da educação e responsabilização social, as mulheres apontaram noções subjetivas, incluindo abusos cometidos por familiares, e destacaram a relevância do profissional de saúde para a sua identificação. Tais aspectos apartam singularidades que carecem de um olhar apurado da enfermagem e demais profissionais das equipes da atenção básica, reconhecendo possíveis casos, notificando-os e agindo intersetorialmente para a interrupção das situações verificadas.

Abstract Objective to analyze the social representations, for elderly men and women, about violence in old age. Method qualitative study based on the theoretical-methodological framework of social representations. Participants were 40 elderly users of Family Health Units in João Pessoa-PB, Brazil, through individual interviews, organized and submitted to the IRAMUTEQ software, concluded by the Descending Hierarchical Classification. Results the analysis pointed to five classes: Susceptibility of the elderly; Violence prevention; Social responsibility; Social expression of violence against the elderly; and Intrafamily violence. The data show that the representations of violence are expressed by individual, community and relational/social factors, revealing some gender differences. Conclusions and implications for practice it is clear that gender is a significant element in representations. While men indicated the need to prevent the phenomenon through education and social accountability, women pointed to subjective notions, including abuses committed by family members, and highlighting the relevance of the health professional for its identification. Such aspects separate out singularities that lack an accurate look from nursing and other professionals of the primary care teams, recognizing possible cases, notifying them and acting intersectorally to interrupt the situations verified.

Resumen Objetivo analizar las representaciones sociales, de hombres y mujeres mayores, sobre la violencia en la vejez. Método estudio cualitativo basado en el referencial teórico-metodológico de las representaciones sociales. Los participantes fueron 40 personas mayores usuarios de Unidades de Salud de la Familia en João Pessoa-PB, Brasil, a través de entrevistas individuales, organizadas y enviadas al software IRAMUTEQ, por medio de la Clasificación Jerárquica Descendente. Resultados el análisis evidenció cinco clases: Susceptibilidad de los mayores; Prevención de la violencia; Responsabilidad social; Expresión social de la violencia contra los mayores; y Violencia intrafamiliar. Los datos muestran que las representaciones de la violencia son expresadas por factores individuales, comunitarios y relacionales/sociales, revelando algunas diferencias de género. Conclusiones e implicaciones para la práctica se percibe que el género es un elemento significativo en las representaciones. Mientras los hombres señalaron la necesidad de prevenir el fenómeno a través de la educación y la responsabilidad social, las mujeres señalaron nociones subjetivas, incluyendo los abusos cometidos por familiares, y destacaron la relevancia del profesional de la salud para su identificación. Tales aspectos separan singularidades que carecen de una mirada certera por parte de la enfermería y demás profesionales de los equipos de atención primaria, reconociendo posibles casos, notificándolos y actuando intersectorialmente para interrumpir las situaciones verificadas.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To assess risk factors associated with motor development delay at three months of age. METHODS Cross-sectional study with mothers and their three-month-old babies in Southern Brazil. The Bayley-III Scale of Infant and Toddler Development (BSID-III) and the Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS) were used to assess motor development. RESULTS We evaluated 756 mothers and their three-month-old babies. The overall mean motor development assessed by the BSID-III and the AIMS was 104.7 (SD 13.5) and 55.4 (SD 25.4), respectively. When assessed by the BSID-III, the lowest motor development scores were among babies born by cesarean delivery (p = 0.002), prematurely (p < 0.001), and with low birth weight (p < 0.001). When assessed by the AIMS, babies born prematurely (p = 0.002) and with low birth weight (p=0.004) had the lowest motor development means. After a cluster analysis, we found that babies born by cesarean delivery, with low birth weight, and prematurely had more impaired motor development compared with children born without any risk factors. CONCLUSION Identifying risk factors allows the implementation of early interventions to prevent motor development delay and, therefore, reduce the probability of other future problems.

RESUMO Objetivo: Verificar a prevalência e identificar os fatores associados à ausência do acompanhante de parto em mulheres no sul do Brasil. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo transversal, realizado com 466 parturientes, pertencentes a uma coorte de mulheres da zona urbana da cidade de Pelotas, RS. Aos 18 meses pós-parto, foi aplicado um questionário estruturado com dados sociodemográficos, gestacionais e questões relacionadas ao parto. Foi realizada regressão logística para ajustes de possíveis fatores de confusão. Resultados: A prevalência da ausência de acompanhante de parto entre as mulheres foi de 22,3%. As parturientes com até 8 anos de estudo (RP=2,0 [IC95% 1,1–3,8]), que não viviam com um companheiro (RP=2,3 [IC95% 1,2–4,3]), que realizaram o pré-natal no setor público (RP=1,9 [IC95% 1,0–3,7]) e que tiveram um parto via cesárea (RP=6,0 [IC95% 2,9–12,4]) apresentaram maior probabilidade de ausência de acompanhante de parto. Conclusão: Os resultados apontam evidências relevantes para o seguimento da verificação da presença do acompanhante de parto no sul do Brasil, indicando a necessidade de melhor aproveitamento e adesão desta prática. Além disso, a lei que aprova a presença do acompanhante de parto no Brasil parece não estar sendo colocada em prática de modo integral, desrespeitando um direito das parturientes e impactando nos benefícios para a saúde materno-infantil.

ABSTRACT Objective: To verify the prevalence and identify the factors associated with the absence of birth companions among women in Southern Brazil. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study carried out with 466 parturient women in a cohort of women from the urban area of the city of Pelotas, RS. At 18 months postpartum, a structured questionnaire was applied with sociodemographic, gestational data and questions related to childbirth. Logistic regression was performed to adjust for possible confounding factors. Results: The prevalence of the absence of a birth companion among women was 22.3%. Parturient women with up to 8 schooling years (PR=2.0 [95%CI 1.1–3.8]), who did not live with a partner (PR=2.3 [95%CI 1.2–4.3]), who performed their prenatal care in the public sector (PR=1.9 [95%CI 1.0–3.7]) and who had a cesarean delivery (PR=6.0 [95%CI 2.9–12.4]) were more likely to not have had a birth companion. Conclusion: The results shows relevant evidence for the verification of the presence of a companion in Southern Brazil, indicating the need for better use and adherence to this practice. In addition, the law that approves the presence of the birth companion in Brazil does not seem to be being fully implemented, disrespecting a right of parturient women and impacting the benefits for for maternal and child health.

Abstract Introduction Obesity is one of the main public health problem worldwide and it has a negative short- and long-term relationship with women's health. Assessment of this disorder is essential, as is a body composition assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) with the new region of interest as the neck. Objective To verify the association between abdominal and neck fat with sleep quality in obese women. Methods The sample, obtained from a Biomedical Engineering and Health Program database, was characterized by being obese female aged between 20 and 65 years. The tests performed were anthropometric assessment, sleep quality questionnaire, physical activity level, nutritional assessment, and body composition by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). For statistical analysis, the Shapiro-Wilk test, t test for independent samples, Kendall's Tau, linear and multiple regression and ROC curve were used. Results The sample consisted of 15 individuals with a mean age of 45 ± 11.10 years, neck circumference of 41.50 ± 2.61 and abdominal circumference of 128.20 ± 11.62. We found no correlation between the regions of interest and the sleep quality questionnaire. Regression analysis shows non-significant statistical values for abdominal fat. The statistical test proved that the new region of interest in abdominal fat is closer to better sensitivity and has a greater relationship with sleep quality. Conclusion there was no statistically significant correlation between the regions of interest and the sleep quality questionnaire. However, the abdominal fat region of interest was the point that presented the best association with sleep quality assessed by the Pittsburgh questionnaire.

Resumo Introdução A obesidade é um dos principais problemas de saúde pública em todo o mundo e tem uma relação negativa de curto e longo prazo com a saúde da mulher. A avaliação desse distúrbio é essencial, assim como a composição corporal avaliada por absorciometria de raios X de dupla energia (DXA), com a nova região de interesse como o pescoço. Objetivo Verificar a associação da gordura abdominal e cervical com a qualidade de sono em mulheres obesas. Métodos A amostra, obtida de um banco de dados do Programa de Engenharia Biomédica e Saúde, caracterizou-se por mulheres obesas com idade entre 20 e 65 anos. Os testes realizados foram avaliação antropométrica, questionário de qualidade do sono, nível de atividade física, avaliação nutricional e composição corporal por dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Para análise estatística, foram utilizados o teste de Shapiro-Wilk, teste t para amostras independentes, Tau de Kendall, regressão linear e múltipla, e curva ROC. Resultados A amostra foi composta por 15 indivíduos com idade média de 45 ± 11,10 anos, circunferência do pescoço de 41,50 ± 2,61 e circunferência abdominal de 128,20 ± 11,62. Não encontrou-se correlação entre as regiões de interesse e o questionário de qualidade do sono. A análise de regressão mostrou valores estatísticos não significativos para a gordura abdominal. O teste estatístico comprovou que a nova região de interesse na gordura abdominal está mais próxima de melhor sensibilidade e tem maior relação com a qualidade do sono. Conclusão Não houve correlação estatisticamente significativa entre as regiões de interesse e o questionário de qualidade do sono. A região de gordura abdominal de interesse, no entanto, foi o ponto que apresentou melhor associação com a qualidade do sono avaliada pelo questionário de Pittsburgh.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of obstetric simulation training on undergraduate medical students to improve their self-confidence. METHODS: Fifth-year undergraduate medical students were invited to a 2-week course of simulation in obstetrics during their clerkship. The sessions included were as follows: (1) care for the second and third periods of childbirth, (2) partograph analysis and pelvimetry, (3) premature rupture of membranes at term, and (4) diagnosis and management of third-trimester bleeding. Before the first session and at the end of the training period, a questionnaire about self-confidence in obstetric procedures and skills was applied. RESULTS: A total of 115 medical students were included, of whom 60 (52.2%) were male and 55 (47.8%) were female. Comparing initial and final scores, the median results of the subscales “comprehension and preparation” (18 vs. 22, p<0.001), “knowledge of procedures” (14 vs. 20, p<0.001), and “expectation” (22 vs. 23, p<0.01) were significantly higher at the end of the training period in all items of the questionnaire than in the beginning. Differences were found based on the students’ gender, i.e., female students had a significantly higher sum of scores than the male students in the initial subscale for “expectation” (median, 24 vs. 22, p<0.001) and “interest” (median, 23 vs. 21, p=0.032), and a higher sum of scores in the subscale for “expectation” (median, 23 vs. 21, p=0.010) in the final questionnaire. CONCLUSION: Obstetric simulation enhances the improvement of students’ self-confidence in understanding both the physiology of childbirth and the obstetric care procedures. Further studies are needed to understand the influence of gender on obstetric care.

Abstract Background Cognitive impairment, anxiety, and depression are present in patients with heart failure (HF), but their mutual correlation in hospitalized patients is not well established. Objectives The aims of this study were to identify the presence of cognitive impairment and the most affected domain, to investigate possible associations of cognitive impairment with depression and/or anxiety, and to observe whether they correlated with occurrence of readmission within 30 days following hospital discharge. Methods This is a prospective observational study including patients with HF from a private hospital. Psychological distress and cognition were evaluated by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and by the Mini Mental State Exam (MMSE), respectively. Clinical data were obtained from the medical record at the time of inclusion, and outpatient follow-up was performed 30 days after discharge via telephone calls. Results This study included 71 patients (83% men, 75 ± 11 years). Cognitive impairment was present in 53.5% of the patients, and recall memory was the most altered cognitive domain. The proportion of possible/probable anxiety and depression was 21.1% and 34.2% in patients with cognitive impairment, respectively. However, only depression demonstrated association with cognitive impairment (p = 0.018). Cognitive impairment, anxiety, and depression showed no relationship with the occurrence of readmission within 30 days. Conclusions Cognitive impairment and depressive symptoms are prevalent and associated, and recall memory was the most altered cognitive domain in patients hospitalized with HF. However, there was no relationship between these factors and readmission within 30 days.

Abstract Objectives: this study aimed to explore a set of factors associated with lower maternal-fetal attachment (MFA) in pregnant women. Methods: this is a cross-sectional study corresponding to the second wave of a cohort study with a population-based sample of pregnant women in the South of Brazil. The maternal-fetal attachment scale (MFAS) was used to measure MFA. Bivariate analysis was performed using the t-test and ANOVA. The variables that presented p<0.20 were taken for multivariate analysis, through linear regression, in order to control possible confounding factors. Results: a total of 840 pregnant women were included. Pregnant women who had lower MFA means were those who did not live with a partner (B=-3.8 [CI95%=-6.0; -1.7]), those between the first and second trimester of pregnancy (B=-4.3 [CI95%=-5.9; -2.6]), those who did not have support from their mother during pregnancy (B=-2.4 [CI95%=-4.6; -0.2]), and those with depressive symptoms (B=-4.9 [CI95%=-7.4; -2.5]). Conclusions: the results showed that a higher MFA it is associated with an adequate support network during pregnancy, better maternal mental health, and with an advanced pregnancy. Early evaluation of MFA and effort to promote an adequate prenatal bond, focusing on maternal psychological and emotional aspects are strongly suggested.

Resumo Objetivos: explorar um conjunto de fatores associados ao menor apego materno-fetal (AMF) em gestantes. Métodos: trata-se de um estudo transversal, correspondente à segunda fase de um estudo de coorte com uma amostra de base populacional de gestantes no sul do Brasil. Foi utilizada a Escala de Apego Materno-Fetal (EAMF) para medir o AMF. A análise bivariada foi realizada através do teste t e ANOVA. As variáveis que apresentaram p<0,20 foram levadas para análise multivariada, por meio de regressão linear, a fim de controlar possíveis fatores de confusão. Resultados: foram incluídas 840 gestantes. As gestantes que apresentaram menores médias de AMF foram aquelas que não moravam com um companheiro (B=-3,8 [IC95%=-6,0; -1,7]), que estavam entre o primeiro e o segundo trimestre de gestação (B=-4,3 [IC95%=-5,9; -2,6]), que não tiveram o apoio da mãe durante a gestação (B=-2,4 [IC95%=-4,6; -0,2]) e que apresentaram sintomas depressivos (B=-4,9 [IC95%=-7,4; -2,5]). Conclusões: os resultados mostraram que um maior AMF está associado a presença de uma rede de apoio adequada na gravidez, melhor saúde mental materna e a uma gestação avançada. A avaliação precoce do AMF e a promoção de um vínculo pré-natal adequado, com foco nos aspectos psicológicos e emocionais maternos são fortemente sugeridos.

ABSTRACT Objective The incidence of thrombotic events and acute kidney injury is high in critically ill patients with COVID-19. We aimed to evaluate and compare the coagulation profiles of patients with COVID-19 developing acute kidney injury versus those who did not, during their intensive care unit stay. Methods Conventional coagulation and platelet function tests, fibrinolysis, endogenous inhibitors of coagulation tests, and rotational thromboelastometry were conducted on days 0, 1, 3, 7, and 14 following intensive care unit admission. Results Out of 30 patients included, 13 (43.4%) met the criteria for acute kidney injury. Comparing both groups, patients with acute kidney injury were older: 73 (60-84) versus 54 (47-64) years, p=0.027, and had a lower baseline glomerular filtration rate: 70 (51-81) versus 93 (83-106) mL/min/1.73m2, p=0.004. On day 1, D-dimer and fibrinogen levels were elevated but similar between groups: 1780 (1319-5517) versus 1794 (726-2324) ng/mL, p=0.145 and 608 (550-700) versus 642 (469-722) g/dL, p=0.95, respectively. Rotational thromboelastometry data were also similar between groups. However, antithrombin activity and protein C levels were lower in patients who developed acute kidney injury: 82 (75-92) versus 98 (90-116), p=0.028 and 70 (52-82) versus 88 (78-101) µ/mL, p=0.038, respectively. Mean protein C levels were lower in the group with acute kidney injury across multiple time points during their stay in the intensive care unit. Conclusion Critically ill patients experiencing acute kidney injury exhibited lower endogenous anticoagulant levels. Further studies are needed to understand the role of natural anticoagulants in the pathophysiology of acute kidney injury within this population.

ABSTRACT Objective: We evaluated the protective effect of postpartum resilience (measured before the pandemic onset) on the prevalence of moderate to severe anxiety symptoms during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Methods: The sample included 589 mothers from a longitudinal study in southern Brazil. Three months after delivery we assessed maternal resilience through the Resilience Scale (RS). The Generalized Anxiety Disorders 7-item (GAD-7) was used to assess anxiety symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: The prevalence of severe to moderate anxiety symptoms in this sample was 28.4% (95% CI: 25.0; 32.0). Resilience showed to be a protective factor against moderate to severe anxiety symptoms during the pandemic (OR: 0.98; p<0.001). Conclusions: The results showed that postpartum resilience is a factor associated with lower odds of a more intense manifestation of anxiety during pandemic periods. Thus, strengthening resilience by reinforcing appropriate coping strategies can prevent mental health problems.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliou-se o efeito protetor da resiliência pós-parto (medida antes do início da pandemia) sobre a prevalência de sintomas de ansiedade moderados a graves durante a pandemia da doença por coronavírus (COVID-19). Métodos: A amostra incluiu 589 mães de um estudo longitudinal do Sul do Brasil. Três meses após o parto, avaliou-se a resiliência materna por meio da Resilience Scale (RS). O Generalized Anxiety Disorders 7-item (GAD-7) foi usado para medir os sintomas de ansiedade durante a pandemia de COVID-19. Resultados: A prevalência de sintomas de ansiedade moderados a graves nessa amostra foi de 28,4% (IC 95%: 25,0-32,0). A resiliência mostrou-se um fator protetor para os sintomas de ansiedade moderados a graves durante a pandemia (RC: 0,98; p<0,001). Conclusões: Os resultados revelaram que a resiliência pós-parto é um fator associado a menor chance de uma manifestação mais intensa da ansiedade durante os períodos pandêmicos. Dessa forma, fortalecer a resiliência, reforçando estratégias de enfrentamento apropriadas, pode prevenir problemas de saúde mental.

ABSTRACT Objective: To verify the prevalence and identify the factors associated with the absence of birth companions among women in Southern Brazil. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study carried out with 466 parturient women in a cohort of women from the urban area of the city of Pelotas, RS. At 18 months postpartum, a structured questionnaire was applied with sociodemographic, gestational data and questions related to childbirth. Logistic regression was performed to adjust for possible confounding factors. Results: The prevalence of the absence of a birth companion among women was 22.3%. Parturient women with up to 8 schooling years (PR=2.0 [95%CI 1.1–3.8]), who did not live with a partner (PR=2.3 [95%CI 1.2–4.3]), who performed their prenatal care in the public sector (PR=1.9 [95%CI 1.0–3.7]) and who had a cesarean delivery (PR=6.0 [95%CI 2.9–12.4]) were more likely to not have had a birth companion. Conclusion: The results shows relevant evidence for the verification of the presence of a companion in Southern Brazil, indicating the need for better use and adherence to this practice. In addition, the law that approves the presence of the birth companion in Brazil does not seem to be being fully implemented, disrespecting a right of parturient women and impacting the benefits for for maternal and child health.

RESUMO Objetivo: Verificar a prevalência e identificar os fatores associados à ausência do acompanhante de parto em mulheres no sul do Brasil. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo transversal, realizado com 466 parturientes, pertencentes a uma coorte de mulheres da zona urbana da cidade de Pelotas, RS. Aos 18 meses pós-parto, foi aplicado um questionário estruturado com dados sociodemográficos, gestacionais e questões relacionadas ao parto. Foi realizada regressão logística para ajustes de possíveis fatores de confusão. Resultados: A prevalência da ausência de acompanhante de parto entre as mulheres foi de 22,3%. As parturientes com até 8 anos de estudo (RP=2,0 [IC95% 1,1–3,8]), que não viviam com um companheiro (RP=2,3 [IC95% 1,2–4,3]), que realizaram o pré-natal no setor público (RP=1,9 [IC95% 1,0–3,7]) e que tiveram um parto via cesárea (RP=6,0 [IC95% 2,9–12,4]) apresentaram maior probabilidade de ausência de acompanhante de parto. Conclusão: Os resultados apontam evidências relevantes para o seguimento da verificação da presença do acompanhante de parto no sul do Brasil, indicando a necessidade de melhor aproveitamento e adesão desta prática. Além disso, a lei que aprova a presença do acompanhante de parto no Brasil parece não estar sendo colocada em prática de modo integral, desrespeitando um direito das parturientes e impactando nos benefícios para a saúde materno-infantil.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the influence of RORγT inhibition by digoxin on inflammatory changes related to interleukin-17 (IL-17) in the pulp of rats treated with zoledronate (ZOL). Methodology Forty male Wistar rats were divided into a negative control group (NCG) treated with saline solution, a positive control group (PCG) treated with ZOL (0.20 mg/kg), and three groups treated with ZOL and co-treated with digoxin 1, 2, or 4 mg/kg (DG1, 2, and 4). After four intravenous administrations of ZOL or saline solution in a 70-day protocol, the right molars were evaluated by histomorphometry (number of blood vessels, blood vessels/µm2, cells/µm2, total blood vessel area, and average blood vessel area) and immunohistochemistry (IL-17, TNF-α, IL-6, and TGF-β). The Kruskal-Wallis/Dunn test was used for statistical analysis. Results PCG showed an increase in total blood vessel area (p=0.008) and average blood vessel area (p=0.014), and digoxin treatment reversed these changes. DG4 showed a reduction in blood vessels/µm2 (p<0.001). In PCG odontoblasts, there was an increase in IL-17 (p=0.002) and TNF-α (p=0.002) immunostaining, and in DG4, these changes were reversed. Odontoblasts in the digoxin-treated groups also showed an increase in IL-6 immunostaining (p<0.001) and a reduction in TGF-β immunostaining (p=0.002), and all ZOL-treated groups showed an increase in IL-17 (p=0.011) and TNF-α (p=0.017) in non-odontoblasts cells. Conclusion ZOL induces TNF-α- and IL-17-dependent vasodilation and ectasia, and the classical Th17 response activation pathway does not seem to participate in this process.
