Resumo Fundamento As complicações cardiovasculares da COVID-19 são aspectos importantes da patogênese e do prognóstico da doença. Evidências do papel prognóstico da troponina e da lesão miocárdica em pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19 na América Latina são ainda escassos. Objetivos Avaliar a lesão miocárdica como preditor independente de mortalidade hospitalar e suporte ventilatório mecânico em pacientes hospitalizados, do registro brasileiro de COVID-19. Métodos Este estudo coorte é um subestudo do registro brasileiro de COVID-19, conduzido em 31 hospitais brasileiros de 17 cidades, de março a setembro de 2020. Os desfechos primários incluíram mortalidade hospitalar e suporte ventilatório mecânico invasivo. Os modelos para os desfechos primários foram estimados por regressão de Poisson com variância robusta, com significância estatística de p<0,05. Resultados Dos 2925 pacientes [idade mediana de 60 anos (48-71), 57,1%], 27,3% apresentaram lesão miocárdica. A proporção de pacientes com comorbidades foi maior nos pacientes com lesão miocárdica [mediana 2 (1-2) vs. 1 (0-20)]. Os pacientes com lesão miocárdica apresentaram maiores valores medianos de peptídeo natriurético cerebral, lactato desidrogenase, creatina fosfoquinase, N-terminal do pró-peptídeo natriurético tipo B e proteína C reativa em comparação a pacientes sem lesão miocárdica. Como fatores independentes, proteína C reativa e contagem de plaquetas foram relacionados com o risco de morte, e neutrófilos e contagem de plaquetas foram relacionados ao risco de suporte ventilatório mecânico invasivo. Os pacientes com níveis elevados de troponina apresentaram um maior risco de morte (RR 2,03, IC95% 1,60-2,58) e suporte ventilatório mecânico (RR 1,87;IC95% 1,57-2,23), em comparação àqueles com níveis de troponina normais. Conclusão Lesão cardíaca foi um preditor independente de mortalidade hospitalar e necessidade de suporte ventilatório mecânico em pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19.

Abstract Background Cardiovascular complications of COVID-19 are important aspects of the disease’s pathogenesis and prognosis. Evidence on the prognostic role of troponin and myocardial injury in Latin American hospitalized COVID-19 patients is still scarce. Objectives To evaluate myocardial injury as independent predictor of in-hospital mortality and invasive mechanical ventilation support in hospitalized patients, from the Brazilian COVID-19 Registry. Methods This cohort study is a substudy of the Brazilian COVID-19 Registry, conducted in 31 Brazilian hospitals of 17 cities, March-September 2020. Primary outcomes included in-hospital mortality and invasive mechanical ventilation support. Models for the primary outcomes were estimated by Poisson regression with robust variance, with statistical significance of p<0.05. Results Of 2,925 patients (median age of 60 years [48-71], 57.1% men), 27.3% presented myocardial injury. The proportion of patients with comorbidities was higher among patients with cardiac injury (median 2 [1-2] vs. 1 [0-2]). Patients with myocardial injury had higher median levels of brain natriuretic peptide, lactate dehydrogenase, creatine phosphokinase, N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide, and C-reactive protein than patients without myocardial injury. As independent predictors, C-reactive protein and platelet counts were related to the risk of death, and neutrophils and platelet counts were related to the risk of invasive mechanical ventilation support. Patients with high troponin levels presented a higher risk of death (RR 2.03, 95% CI 1.60-2.58) and invasive mechanical ventilation support (RR 1.87, 95% CI 1.57-2.23), when compared to those with normal troponin levels. Conclusion Cardiac injury was an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality and the need for invasive mechanical ventilation support in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Resumo Objetivos: avaliar associação entre transtornos mentais do cuidador e comportamento alimentar obesogênico de escolares. Métodos: estudo transversal com amostra de crianças da rede pública de ensino e seu cuidador principal. Episódio depressivo atual e transtorno de ansiedade generalizada (TAG) do cuidador foi avaliado pela Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI). Comportamentos alimentares obesogênicos das crianças foi avaliado pelas subescalas resposta à comida (FR) e sobreingestão emocional (EOE) Children’s Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (CEBQ). Análise bivariada foi realizada por meio de teste-T, ANOVA e correlação de Pearson. Modelo de regressão linear ajustado (incluiu variáveis cuidadores: sexo, idade, indicador econômico e escolaridade; escolares: sexo e estado nutricional). Resultados: foram avaliadas 596 díades crianças-cuidadores (309 meninos e 287 meninas). Entre os cuidadores, 24,7% apresentaram episódio depressivo atual, 38,7% episódio depressivo passado e 17,2% TAG. Observamos, após análise ajustada, que ter um cuidador em episódio depressivo atual aumenta o comportamento obesogênico dos escolares, em 0,235 pontos para FR (β=0,235; IC95%=0,022-0,449) e em 0,337 pontos para EOE (β=0,337; IC95%=0,162-0,512). Conclusão: episódio depressivo atual do cuidador foi associado a maiores médias de comportamentos alimentares obesogênicos dos escolares, tanto no consumo de alimentos palatáveis mesmo sem fome (FR) quanto aumento da ingestão alimentar em resposta a emoções negativas (EOE).

Abstract Objective: to assess the association between caregivers’ mental disorders and schoolchildren’s obesogenic eating behavior. Methods: cross-sectional study used a public school-based sample of children and their primary caregivers. Caregivers had to report depressive episodes or generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) during the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI). Children’s obesogenic eating behavior were assessed using food responsiveness (FR) and emotional overeating (EOE) subscales of the Children’s Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (CEBQ). Bivariate analysis was conducted using the t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and adjusted linear regression model was used (including variables caregivers: sex, age, economic indicator, and schooling; schoolchildren: sex and nutritional status). Results: study includes 596 children-caregiver dyads (309 boys and 287 girls). Among caregivers, 24.7% had experienced current depressive episodes, 38.7% had past depressive episodes, and 17.2% had GAD. We observed, after adjusted analysis, that having a caregiver in a current depressive episode, increases schoolchildren’s obesogenic behavior of, for FR at 0.235 points (β=0.235; CI95%=0.022-0.449;) and EOE at 0.337 points (β=0.337; CI95%=0.162-0.512). Conclusion: caregivers’ current depressive episodes were associated with higher averages of obesogenic eating behavior (caregiver-reported), both in consuming palatable food without feeling hungry (FR) and in increasing food intake in response to negative emotions (EOE).

RESUMO: O artigo apresenta em detalhe a gênese do Fundo Monteiro Lobato, no CEDAE/Unicamp, abrangendo desde o projeto inicial até o desenvolvimento do Acervo ao longo dos anos. Algumas seções são mais explicitadas, como cartas (algumas transcritas), fotografias, livros e presença na mídia. Destaca seu papel para o conhecimento mais completo das plateias e bastidores da história literária brasileira dos inícios do século XX, para além dos estereótipos correntes sobre o escritor.

ABSTRACT: The article presents in detail the genesis of the Monteiro Lobato Fund, at CEDAE/Unicamp, covering from the initial project to the development of the Archive over the years. Some sections are more explicit, such as letters (some transcribed), photographs, books and presence in the media. It highlights its role for a more complete knowledge of the audiences and backstage of Brazilian literary history of the beginning of the 20th century, beyond the current stereotypes about the writer.

Abstract This study tested the hypothesis that head and neck radiotherapy (HNRT) impacts the immunoexpression of type I collagen, bone sialoprotein (BSP) and bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4), thereby leading to micromorphological changes in the dentin-pulp complex (DPC), and promoting the onset and progression of radiation caries (RC). Twenty-two demineralized sections of carious teeth (a group of 11 irradiated teeth and a control group of 11 non-irradiated teeth) extracted from 19 head and neck cancer patients were analyzed by conventional optical microscopy and immunohistochemistry to investigate the micromorphology (cellular layer hierarchy, blood vessels, odontoblasts, fibroblasts, extracellular matrix, calcification, necrosis, reactionary dentin formation, and chronic inflammation), and the patterns of staining/immunolocalization of type I collagen, BSP and BMP4 in the dental pulp of irradiated and control samples. No significant differences attributable to the direct impact of radiotherapy were detected in DPC micromorphology between the groups. In addition, the patterns of immunohistochemical staining and immunolocalization of the proteins studied did not differ between the irradiated and the control samples for type I collagen, BSP or BMP4. This study rejected the hypothesis that HNRT directly damages dentition by changing the organic components and the microstructure of the DPC, ultimately leading to RC.

Abstract Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a severe disease with no cure caused by a genetic abnormality, promoting progressive muscle degeneration. Corticosteroids are used drugs in treatment associated with adverse effects. The extract of Miconia ferruginata (Melastomataceae) (MF) has demonstrated potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential in vitro. This study used a DMD model (mdx) to determine the toxic dose of this plant and found a possible non-toxic dose with therapeutic effects. The mdx groups received an intraperitoneal injection of 0 (control group), 50, 100, 200, 300, and 2000 mg kg-1 of the aqueous leaf extract following a single-dose acute toxicity protocol and were observed for 14 days. The range of toxicity of the extract and LD50 were determined. Histopathological analysis, the quantification of fibrosis, and immunohistochemical analysis of the tissues were performed. The results demonstrated that 2000 mg kg-1 was highly toxic, inducing histopathological changes in the tissues evaluated, with 100% mortality in 48 hours. The other doses caused no behavioral changes or signs of toxicity. The MF extract led reduction in histopathological changes, fibrosis, and inflammation, a reduction in HSP70 and an increase in MCL-1 proteins. Doses of 50-200 mg kg-1 demonstrated regenerative tissue and anti-inflammatory potential.

Abstract Aim: Anthropometry represents an alternative to the evaluation of nutritional status and screening of events related to muscle fitness. Therefore, this study aimed to compare anthropometric indicators of postmenopausal women with and without dynapenia and to identify the predictive capacity of these indicators to screen the respective outcome in this population. Methods: Cross-sectional epidemiological study, conducted with postmenopausal women. Dynapenia was diagnosed by handgrip strength < 20 kgf. Arm (AC), abdominal (AbC), hip (HC) and calf circumferences (CC), triceps, biceps, subscapular, supraspinatus and thigh skinfolds were analyzed. Body Mass Index, Conicity Index (CI), Body Adiposity Index (BAI), Waist to Hip and Waist to Height Ratio (WHtR), Corrected Arm Muscle Area (CAMA) and Arm Muscle Circumference (AMC) were calculated. Results: A total of 273 women participated in the study. The BAI, WHtR, and CI did not present significant differences between the groups. For the other indicators, the dynapenic group obtained significantly lower values compared to the non-dynapenic. AC was the indicator with the highest sensitivity to screen for postmenopausal dynapenia (79.8%). While CAMA and AMC were the indicators with the best specificity (86.2%). However, CC showed the best balance between sensitivity (67.5%) and specificity (63.0%). Conclusion: The indicators AC, CAMA, and/or the AMC can be used together, or CC alone, to predict postmenopausal women with dynapenia. Therefore, these indicators can be used as important epidemiological tools to improve women's health surveillance actions.

RESUMO Objetivo: analisar as evidências científicas sobre experiências de homens transexuais grávidos. Método: estudo descritivo, tipo revisão integrativa de literatura, sem recorte de tempo, realizada em janeiro de 2021 nas seguintes Bases de Dados: Medline, CINAHL, LILACS, CUIDEN, SCOPUS, WoS, EMBASE, PSYCINFO e BDENF, nos idiomas português, inglês e espanhol; usando os descritores DECs e MeSH: “Pessoas Transgênero”, “Gravidez”, “Reprodução”, “Fertilização”, “Inseminação”, “Cuidado Pré-Natal”, “Período Pós-Parto”, “Lactação”, “Aborto Espontâneo”, “Aborto habitual”, “Saúde reprodutiva” e “Assistência à Saúde” e respectivos sinônimos. A elaboração da questão norteadora foi conduzida pela Estratégia PICo: (População): homens transexuais; I (Interesse): experiências durante o ciclo gravídico puerperal; Co (Contexto): saúde reprodutiva e serviços de saúde. A amostra final foi submetida à Técnica de Análise Temática. Resultados: foram identificados 1.011 estudos. Após o processo de seleção e avaliação por pares, 10 compuseram esta revisão. A análise resultou em duas categorias temáticas: “Ciclo gravídico-puerperal: desafios e experiências” e “Corpos grávidos: percepções e relações sociais”. Conclusão: as experiências de homens transexuais grávidos são marcadas por inquietações relacionadas à gestação, ao parto, ao nascimento e ao puerpério, ocasionando impactos psicológicos e/ou emocionais inesperados, evidenciando a cisheteronormatividade e a transfobia como aspectos estruturantes que acrescentam uma parcela adicional ao medo do parto e violações de direitos.

Method: a descriptive, integrative literature review study without a defined time cut, carried out in January 2021 in the following Databases: Medline, CINAHL, LILACS, CUIDEN, SCOPUS, WoS, EMBASE, PSYCINFO and BDENF, in Portuguese, English and Spanish; using the DECs and MeSH descriptors: “Transgender People”, “Pregnancy”, “Reproduction”, “Fertilization”, “Insemination”, “Prenatal Care”, “Postpartum Period”, “Lactation”, “Mispontaneous Abortion” , “Habitual abortion”, “Reproductive health” and “Health Care” and their respective synonyms. The elaboration of the guiding question was conducted by the PICo Strategy: (Population): transgender men; I (Interest): experiences during the puerperal pregnancy cycle; Co (Context): reproductive health and health services. The final sample was submitted to the Thematic Analysis Technique. Results: a total of 1,011 studies were identified, 10 of which composed this review after the selection process and peer review. The analysis resulted in two thematic categories: “Pregnancy-puerperal cycle: challenges and experiences” and “Pregnant bodies: perceptions and social relationships”. Conclusion: the experiences of pregnant transsexual men are marked by concerns related to pregnancy, childbirth, birth and the puerperium, causing unexpected psychological and/or emotional impacts, evidencing cisheteronormativity and transphobia as structuring aspects which add an additional part to fear of childbirth and violations of rights.

La elaboración de la pregunta guía fue realizada por la estrategia PICo: hombres transgénero (P - Población); experiencias durante el ciclo gravídico-puerperal (I - Interés); salud reproductiva y servicios de salud (Co - Contexto). La muestra final se sometió a la técnica de análisis temático. Resultados: se identificaron 1.011 estudios. Después del proceso de selección y la revisión por pares, 10 compusieron esta revisión. El análisis se ha centrado en dos categorías temáticas: "Ciclo gravídico-puerperal: desafíos y experiencias" y "Cuerpos embarazados: percepciones y relaciones sociales". Conclusión: l as experiencias de hombres transexuales embarazados están marcadas por inquietudes relacionadas a la gestación, el parto, el nacimiento y el puerperio, ocasionando impactos psicológicos y/o emocionales inesperados, evidenciando la cisheteronormatividad y la transfobia como aspectos estructurales que incorporan una parcela adicional al miedo del parto y violaciones de derechos.

Abstract Kavain is one of the main kavalactones of Piper methysticum (Piperaceae) with anxiolytic, analgesic, and antioxidant activities. Therefore, the aim of the study was to evaluate the cytotoxic, mutagenic, and antimutagenic potential of kavain in Allium cepa cells. Roots of A. cepa were transferred to the negative (2% acetone) and positive (10 µg/mL of Methylmethanesulfonate, MMS) controls and to the concentrations of kavain (32, 64 and 128 µg/mL) for 48 h. A total of 5,000 meristematic cells were analyzed under an optical microscope to determine the mitotic index, mean number of chromosomal alterations and percentage of damage reduction. Data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test (p <0.05). All concentrations of kavain were not cytotoxic and did not show significant chromosomal changes when compared to 2% acetone. Kavain showed a cytoprotective effect in the pre (128 μg/mL) and in the post-treatment (32 and 64 μg/mL) and reduced damage against the mutagenic action of MMS in all concentrations of the pre and simultaneous and at the highest of post (128 μg/mL). Kavain promoted a significant reduction in micronuclei, nuclear buds and chromosomal losses in relation to MMS. The observed data indicate the importance of kavain for the inhibition of damage and chemoprevention.

Resumo Objetivo Avaliar a adesão à higienização das mãos dos profissionais da saúde atuantes em uma Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal e verificar a associação da adesão entre os cinco momentos preconizados pela Organização Mundial de Saúde. Métodos Pesquisa transversal realizada entre novembro/2017 e abril/2018, com equipe multiprofissional de saúde da Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal, nos turnos matutino e vespertino, nos dias úteis da semana, por meio de observação direta das oportunidades de higienização das mãos. Os dados foram analisados utilizando-se a Razão de Chance e o Teste Exato de Fisher (p<0,05). Resultados Foram observadas 304 oportunidades de higienização das mãos em 71 profissionais da saúde, mostrando uma taxa de adesão global de 79,9%. A maior adesão à higiene de mãos foi dos fisioterapeutas (91,9%), seguido dos médicos (82,4%) e dos técnicos de enfermagem (82%). As oportunidades com maior adesão à higiene de mãos foram “antes e após tocar o paciente” com 94,4 e 93,9%, respectivamente. A chance de higienizar as mãos antes de tocar o paciente foi 60 vezes maior do que após tocar superfícies próximas ao paciente (p < 0,00001). Conclusão Higienizar as mãos após tocar superfícies próximas ao paciente obteve menor adesão. Já higienizar as mãos antes de tocar o paciente obteve maior adesão por parte dos profissionais observados.

Abstract Objective To evaluate hand hygiene compliance by health professionals working in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and verify the association of compliance between the five moments recommended by the World Health Organization. Methods This is cross-sectional research, carried out between November/2017 and April/2018, with a multidisciplinary health staff from a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, in the morning and afternoon shifts, on weekdays, through direct observation of opportunities for cleaning the hands. Data were analyzed using Odds Ratio and Fisher’s exact test (p<0.05). Results A total of 304 hand hygiene opportunities were observed in 71 health professionals, showing an overall compliance rate of 79.9%. The highest hand hygiene compliance was by physical therapists (91.9%), followed by physicians (82.4%) and nursing technicians (82%). Opportunities with greater hand hygiene compliance were “before and after touching a patient” with 94.4 and 93.9%, respectively. The chance of washing hands before touching a patient was 60 times greater than after touching patient surroundings (p < 0.00001). Conclusion Hygienizing hands after touching patient surroundings had lower compliance. Hygiene hands before touching a patient obtained greater compliance by the professionals observed.

Resumen Objetivo Evaluar la adherencia a la higienización de manos de los profesionales de salud que actúan en una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales y verificar la asociación de la adherencia en los cinco momentos preconizados por la Organización Mundial de Salud. La probabilidad de higienización de manos antes de tocar al paciente fue 60 veces más alta que después de tocar superficies próximas al paciente (p < 0,00001). Conclusión Higienizar las manos después de tocar superficies próximas al paciente presentó una adherencia más baja. Por otro lado, higienizar las manos antes de tocar al paciente obtuvo una adherencia más alta por parte de los profesionales observados.

Resumo Objetivo Analisar as evidências científicas de práticas de desinfecção de incubadoras usadas em Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatais. Métodos Revisão integrativa de literatura, realizada de junho a julho de 2020, nas bases de dados: LILACS, SciELO, CINAHL, SCOPUS, Web of Science e MEDLINE. Os achados foram organizados conforme o fluxograma PRISMA e discutidos de acordo com a literatura pertinente. Resultados Dos 780 artigos encontrados, apenas cinco contemplaram os critérios de inclusão. Os saneantes utilizados foram: cloreto de didecildimetilamônio, polihexametilenobiguanida e Peróxido de Hidrogênio (VHP); cloreto de didecildimetilamônio; N-(3-aminopropyl)-N-dodécylpropane-1,3-diamine; cloreto de didecildimetilamônio e limpeza a vapor; água com detergente para limpeza no balde e água sanitária (200mg/L) e desinfectante Umonium38® a 2,5%. Há diversidade de opções para desinfecção das incubadoras, com variação de métodos e frequência de limpeza. Os saneantes utilizados foram eficazes, apontando para redução da carga microbiana. Conclusão Observou-se uma variedade de procedimentos e produtos que podem ser utilizados para limpeza e desinfecção das incubadoras. Os procedimentos de desinfecção favoreceram a redução da contaminação da superfície. No entanto, a presença de micro-organismos, mesmo que reduzida, alerta sobre o risco à segurança do paciente.

Abstract Objective To analyze the scientific evidence of incubator disinfection practices used in Neonatal Intensive Care Units. Methods This is an integrative literature review, conducted from June to July 2020, in the LILACS, SciELO, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science and MEDLINE databases. The findings were organized according to the PRISMA flowchart and discussed according to pertinent literature. Results Of the 780 articles found, only five met the inclusion criteria. The sanitizers used were: didecyldimethylammonium chloride, PHMB and vaporized hydrogen peroxide (VHP); didecyldimethylammonium chloride; N-(3-aminopropyl)-N-dodecylpropane-1,3-diamine; didecyldimethylammonium chloride and steam cleaning; water with detergent for cleaning in the bucket and bleach (200 mg/L) and 2.5% Umonium38® disinfectant. There is a diversity of options for disinfection of incubators, with variation of methods and frequency of cleaning. The sanitants used were effective, pointing to reduction of microbial load. Conclusion A variety of procedures and products were observed that can be used for cleaning and disinfection of incubators. Disinfection procedures favored the reduction of surface contamination. However, the presence of microorganisms, even if reduced, alerts about the risk to patient safety.

Los procedimientos de desinfección favorecieron la reducción de la contaminación de la superficie. Sin embargo, la presencia de microorganismos, aunque reducida, alerta respecto al riesgo a la seguridad del paciente.

Abstract Solid residues from agroindustry often accumulate and cause environmental imbalance. An alternative to this is to use this residue as a reinforcement in polymers. The achievement of this work was to characterize a composite with a polystyrene matrix reinforced with Brazil nut shells residues. The residues were cleaned and ground to then produce the samples via injection molding with the proportions of 0%, 2.5% and 5% of load. The specimens were characterized using mechanical tensile testing and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The mechanical test showed that the composite with 2.5% of filler had greater stiffness and strength was improved by 5%. Thermal analysis showed an increase in the temperature for the beginning of the degradation of the M2.5 composite. The results confirm a potential application in the automotive industry for the polystyrene composite reinforced with Brazil nut shells.

RESUMO: O fenômeno denominado infodemia refere-se ao aumento do volume informacional sobre um tema em específico, que se multiplica rapidamente em um curto período de tempo, e tem-se destacado frente ao contexto da crise sanitária desencadeada pela pandemia de COVID-19. O excesso de informações pode suscitar sentimentos de medo, ansiedade, estresse e outras condições de sofrimento mental. O estudo tem como objetivo descrever o perfil de exposição a informações sobre COVID-19 e suas repercussões na saúde mental de idosos brasileiros. Trata-se de um estudo transversal realizado com 1924 idosos brasileiros. Coletaram-se dados por meio de web-based survey enviada aos idosos por redes sociais e e-mail, no período de julho a outubro de 2020. Os resultados da análise descritiva dos dados demonstram que a maioria dos idosos apresentou idade entre 60 e 69 anos (69,02%), é do sexo feminino (71,26%), casados (53,79%) e de cor branca (75,57%). Cerca de 21,67% (n = 417) concluíram a graduação, 19,75% (380) concluíram especialização e 16,63% (320) concluíram mestrado ou doutorado. Foram reportados como fontes frequentes de exposição às notícias ou informações sobre a COVID-19, a televisão 862 (44,80%) e as redes sociais 651 (33,84%). Os participantes assinalaram que a televisão (46,47%; n = 872), as redes sociais (30,81%; n = 575) e o rádio (14,48%; 251) os afetavam psicológica e/ou fisicamente. Receber notícias falsas sobre a COVID-19 pela televisão (n = 482; 19,8%) e pelas redes sociais (n = 415; 21,5%) repercutiu, principalmente, estresse e medo. As informações disseminadas contribuem para conscientização, mas, também, afetam física e/ou psicologicamente muitos idosos, principalmente gerando medo e estresse.

ABSTRACT The phenomenon called infodemia refers to the increase in the volume of information on a specific topic, which multiplies rapidly in a short period of time, and has stood out in the context of the health crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Too much information can trigger feelings of fear, anxiety, stress, and other conditions of mental distress. The study aims to describe the profile of exposure to information about COVID-19 and its repercussions on the mental health of elderly Brazilians. This is a cross-sectional study carried out with 1924 elderly Brazilians. Data were collected through a web-based survey sent to the elderly via social networks and email, from July to October 2020. The results of the descriptive analysis of the data show that most of the elderly were aged between 60 and 69 years (69.02%), female (71.26%), married (53.79%) and white (75.57%). About 21.67% (n = 417) concluded their graduation, 19.75% (380) concluded their specialization and 16.63% (320) concluded their master's or doctoral degrees. Television 862 (44.80%) and social networks 651 (33.84%) were reported as frequent sources of exposure to news or information about COVID-19. Participants indicated that television (46.47%; n = 872), social networks (30.81%; n = 575) and radio (14.48%; 251) affected them psychologically and/or physically. Receiving fake news about COVID-19 on television (n = 482; 19.8%) and on social media (n = 415; 21.5%) mainly resulted in stress and fear. The disseminated information contributes to awareness, but also affects physically and/or psychologically many elderly people, mainly generating fear and stress.

Resumo O presente estudo teve como objetivo realizar uma avaliação epidemiológica e morfométrica da infecção por Eimeria em ovinos no Brasil. Amostras fecais de ovinos foram coletadas em 20 fazendas no sul do Brasil. Um questionário epidemiológico foi utilizado para avaliar os fatores de risco. Amostras fecais, contendo oocistos por grama de fezes (OoPG) ≥1000, foram submetidas ao método de Willis-Mollay modificado para realizar a identificação de oocistos. Oocistos esporulados foram observados microscopicamente para identificação morfológica. Foram coletadas 807 amostras fecais. Com base nas características morfológicas e morfométricas dos oocistos esporulados, foram identificadas 10 espécies de Eimeria, com as principais espécies observadas: Eimeria ovinoidalis (98,1%), Eimeria crandallis (87,6%), Eimeria parva (79,1%) e Eimeria bakuensis (60,8%). Apenas 2,6% (7/268) dos ovinos estavam infectados com uma única espécie, 4,8% (13/268) continham duas espécies diferentes e 92,5% (248/268) estavam infectados com três ou mais espécies. A análise dos fatores de risco mostrou que uma criação intensiva, sem rotação de pasto, terra, piso de ripa e idade até 12 meses foram associadas à infecção. Este estudo mostrou uma alta prevalência de infecção natural por Eimeria em ovinos do norte do Paraná, Brasil. Além disso, com base nos fatores de risco, boas práticas de manejo e higiene devem ser empregadas para evitar infecções.

Abstract The present study aimed to perform an epidemiological and morphological identification of Eimeria infection in sheep in Brazil. Fecal samples from sheep were collected from 20 farms in northern Paraná, Brazil. An epidemiological questionnaire was used to evaluate the risk factors. Fecal samples containing oocysts per gram of feces (OoPG) ≥1000 were subjected to the modified Willis-Mollay method to perform oocyst identification. Sporulated oocysts were observed microscopically for morphological identification. A total of 807 fecal samples were collected. Based on the morphological characteristics of the sporulated oocysts, 10 species of Eimeria were identified, with main species observed: Eimeira ovinoidalis (98.1%), Eimeria crandallis (87.6%), Eimeria parva (79.1%), and Eimeria bakuensis (60.8%). Only 2.6% (7/268) of the sheep were infected with a single species, 4.8% (13/268) contained two different species, and 92.5% (248/268) were infected with three or more species. The analysis of risk factors showed that an intensive rearing, no rotation of pasture, dirt, and slatted floors, and age up to 12 months were associated with infection. This study showed a high prevalence of Eimeria natural infection in sheep from northern Paraná, Brazil. Furthermore, based on the risk factors, good management and hygiene practices must be employed to avoid infection.

RESUMO Objetivo Verificar a relação entre o handicap auditivo e fragilidade em idosos residentes da comunidade. Método Estudo transversal realizado com 238 idosos (idade ≥ 60 anos), no ano de 2018. O questionário Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly - Screening version - HHIE-S, foi aplicado para quantificar o handicap auditivo. A fragilidade foi avaliada segundo o Fenótipo de Fragilidade proposto por Fried e colaboradores, utilizando os 5 critérios: perda de peso não intencional, fadiga relatada, redução da força de preensão, redução da velocidade de caminhada e baixa atividade física. A relação entre o handicap auditivo e a fragilidade foi realizada por meio dos Testes Kruskal-Wallis e Spermann. Resultados Maior percepção do handicap auditivo foi verificado nos indivíduos pré-frágeis e frágeis, comparados aos não frágeis. O handicap auditivo apresentou correlação positiva e estatisticamente significante com maiores níveis de fragilidade. Conclusão O handicap auditivo está relacionado a fragilidade em idosos da comunidade.

ABSTRACT Purpose To verify the relationship between hearing handicap and frailty in community-dwelling older adults. Methods A cross-sectional study was carried out with 238 older adults (aged ≥ 60 years) in 2018. The Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly – Screening version – HHIE-S was applied to assess the hearing handicap. To assess frailty, the Frailty Phenotype proposed for Fried and co-workers was adopted, objectively evaluating 5 criteria: unintentional weight loss, reported fatigue, reduced grip strength, reduced walking speed and low physical activity. It was investigated whether the hearing handicap were related with frailty using Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman test. Results Worse perception of the hearing handicap was found in pre-frail and frail individuals, compared to non-frail individuals. In addition, hearing handicap showed a positive and statistically significant correlation with frailty. Conclusion Hearing handicap is related to frailty in community-dwelling older adults.

Abstract We hypothesize that lambs fed diets with different lipids sources from oilseeds would similar performance but fatty acids profile of meat superior to those fed with conventional diets. We evaluated the effects of inclusion of oilseeds on the ingestive behaviour, performance, carcass trait and meat quality in feedlot lambs. Three isonitrogenous (18.31% crude protein) diets were evaluated, where one diet was the standard (control), and the others two diets contained soybean and cottonseed. Fifteen Texel lambs, weighting 28.5 ± 1.65 kg were distributed in a completely randomized design by 56 days. Animals fed soybean diet demonstrated greater final body weight when compared to animals fed cottonseed diet and standard diet. The inclusion of cottonseed provided lower average daily gain and total weight gain. Ingestive behaviour of the animals fed diets with grains resulted in greater rumination time. Lambs fed cottonseed diet spent greater time during rumination and presented greater number of chews/day. The hot carcass and cold carcass weight presented lower values in animals fed cottonseeds diet. There was no significant difference in meat for marbling, maturity, fat texture and shear force. Meat from animals fed soybean diet had highest fat content. There was a diet effect for fatty acids composition in the meat. Meat of lambs treated with soybean have greater amounts for fatty acids mostly the unsaturated ones, related to the decrease in cholesterol levels, and lower risk of cardiovascular diseases, thus, lambs fed soybean enrich meat produced with fatty acids that benefit human health.
