RESUMO: O objetivo deste estudo foi simular a variação da água disponível no solo durante o desenvolvimento da cultura do milho, em duas épocas de semeadura diferentes (primeira e segunda safra), utilizando sistema de irrigação por gotejamento. Os tratamentos consistiram em diferentes estratégias de irrigação (plena e deficitária). O modelo de simulação SIMDualKc foi utilizado para determinar o balanço hídrico diário do solo e a evapotranspiração da cultura usando a abordagem do coeficiente cultura dual. Os parâmetros de solo, clima, cultura e irrigação foram utilizados como dados de entrada. Dois experimentos foram realizados em uma cobertura móvel composta por duas estruturas metálicas (16x10m) na cidade de Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, nas safras 2010/11 (segunda safra, época 1) e 2011/12 (primeira safra, época 2), sob sistema de plantio direto. As simulações mostraram que todas as estratégias de manejo de irrigação usadas na época 2 resultaram em déficit hídrico, enquanto que apenas duas estratégias apresentaram déficit na época 1. Os resultados mostraram boa concordância entre os dados de água no solo observados e simulados, com um R2 variando de 0.86 a 0.99 e raiz quadrada do erro médio variando de 2,7 a 5,6% da água total disponível para as épocas 1 e 2, respectivamente. Os resultados observados do balanço hídrico mostraram que o milho cultivado na época 2 apresentou maior consumo de água em comparação com a época 1, devido à maior demanda atmosférica da época 2. O modelo SIMDualKc permitiu a partição da evapotranspiração da cultura em evaporação do solo e transpiração da cultura, demonstrando que o subperíodo de crescimento vegetativo apresentou as maiores diferenças entre as duas épocas em relação às demais fases de crescimento.

ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to simulate the variation of the available soil water during maize crop growth, in two different sowing times (first and second growing season), using a drip irrigation system. The treatments consisted of different irrigation strategies (full to deficit). The SIMDualKc simulation model was used to determine the daily soil water balance and crop evapotranspiration using the dual crop coefficient approach. Soil, climate, crop and irrigation parameters were used as input data. Two experiments were carried out in a rainout shelter composed of two metallic structures (16x10m) in the city of Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, during 2010/11 (second crop, season 1) and 2011/12 (first crop, season 2) growing seasons, under no-tillage system. The simulations showed that all the irrigation management strategies used in season 2 resulted in soil water deficit, while only two strategies showed deficit in season 1. Results showed good agreement between observed and simulated soil water data, with an R2 ranging from 0.86 to 0.99 and the root mean square error ranging from 2.7 to 5.6% of the total available water for seasons 1 and 2, respectively. The observed results of water balance showed that maize grown in season 2 presented higher water consumption compared to season 1, due to the higher atmospheric demand of season 2. The SIMDualKc model allowed the partitioning of crop evapotranspiration into soil evaporation and crop transpiration, demonstrating that the vegetative growth subperiod presented the greatest differences between the two seasons compared to the others growth phases.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi ajustar curvas de crescimento e determinar o plastocrono e o número final de nós de mudas de cravina de jardim, cultivadas em diferentes substratos. Um total de 392 plantas foram cultivadas em sete substratos em casa de vegetação, em Santa Maria, RS. As curvas de crescimento foram ajustadas ao modelo logístico, e o plastocrono foi estimado pelo inverso do coeficiente angular da regressão linear simples entre o número de nós acumulados e a soma térmica acumulada a partir da repicagem das mudas. O ajuste do modelo logístico foi melhor para a variável número de folhas que para altura de plantas, em todos os substratos. As plantas dos substratos 50% de solo + 50% de cinzas de casca de arroz; e 80% cinzas de casca de arroz + 20% húmus de minhoca tiveram os maiores ciclos de produção, 74 e 65 dias, respectivamente, e o completaram com soma térmica de 1317,9 ºC dia para número de folhas e altura de plantas. As curvas de crescimento ajustadas pelo modelo logístico e o plastocrono em cravina de jardim são dependentes do tipo de substrato utilizado, e o melhor é o comercial Mecplant®. O número final de nós na haste principal é, em média, 14 nós planta-1, para todos os substratos.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to plot the growth curves and determine the plastochron and the final number of nodes of China pink seedlings grown on different substrates. Thus, 392 China pink seedlings were grown on seven substrates under greenhouse conditions, in Santa Maria in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The growth curves were plotted using the logistic model. The plastochron was estimated by the inverse of the angular coefficient of the simple linear regression between the number of accumulated nodes and accumulated thermal sum from the subsampling of the seedlings. In all substrates, the logistic model fit better for the variable number of leaves than for the plant height. The plants in substrates with 50% of soil plus 50% of rice husk ash, and 80% of rice husk ash plus 20% earthworm humus had the longest cycles with 74 and 65 days, respectively. They completed the cycles with a thermal sum of 1317.9 ºC day for number of leaves and plant height. The growth curves that were plotted by the logistic model and the plastochron of the China pink seedlings are dependent on the type of substrate used. The commercial substrate Mecplant® had the best results. The average final number of nodes of the main stem of the plants was 14 for all substrates.

O filocrono é definido como o tempo térmico necessário para o aparecimento de folhas sucessivas na haste principal de uma planta. Através do filocrono, pode-se calcular a duração do período vegetativo e, portanto, a época de florescimento em função da temperatura do ar. O presente trabalho teve por objetivo determinar o filocrono de diferentes híbridos de milho. Foram conduzidos três experimentos a campo, nos anos agrícolas de 2007/08, 2008/09 e 2009/2010. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos ao acaso com três repetições. Os tratamentos constituíram-se de 18, 22 e 24 híbridos de milho, nos anos agrícolas de 2007/08, 2008/09 e 2009/2010, respectivamente. O filocrono foi estimado pelo inverso do coeficiente angular da regressão linear entre o número de folhas e a soma térmica acumulada a partir de emergência (temperatura base = 10°C). O filocrono calculado variou de 44,3 a 34,4°C dia-1 folha-1 entre os híbridos avaliados, estando o valor de filocrono dos híbridos diretamente relacionados com a precocidade do período vegetativo.

The phyllochron is defined as the thermal time needed for the appearance of successive leaves on the plant main stem. Through the phyllochron it is possible to calculate the length of the growing period and thus the flowering period based on the air temperature. This study aimed to determine the phyllochron from different maize hybrids. Three field experiments were carried out during the agricultural years of 2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/2010. The experimental design was one of randomized blocks with three repetitions. The treatments consisted of 18, 22 and 24 maize hybrid during the three agricultural years of 2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/2010, respectively. The phyllochron was estimated by the inverse of the angular coefficient of the linear regression between the number of leaves and the accumulated thermal sum from emergence on (base temperature = 10°C). The calculated phyllochron varied from 44.3 to 34.4°C day-1 leaf-1 among the evaluated hybrids, being the phyllochron value of hybrids directly related to the precocity of the growing period.

O plastocrono, intervalo de tempo entre o aparecimento de dois nós sucessivos na haste principal da planta, e o número final de nós (NFN) são importantes variáveis do desenvolvimento de plantas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar o plastocrono e o NFN de cultivares de soja (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) semeadas em diferentes épocas em um local de clima subtropical. Um experimento de campo foi realizado em Santa Maria, RS, no ano agrícola de 2005/2006, com três épocas de semeadura (09/11/2005, 09/12/2005 e 28/01/2006). Foram utilizadas 15 cultivares de soja recomendadas para as regiões Norte e Centro da Argentina, e Sul e Sudeste do Brasil. As variáveis medidas foram o número acumulado de nós (NN) e o NFN na haste principal. O plastocrono foi estimado pelo inverso do coeficiente angular da regressão linear entre o NN e a soma térmica acumulada a partir de emergência (temperatura base = 10°C). Semeaduras tardias resultaram em menor plastocrono e menor NFN, provavelmente devido ao menor fotoperíodo a que as plantas foram submetidas durante a fase de emissão de nós, uma resposta característica de plantas de dia curto.

The plastochron, which is the time interval between the appearance of two successive nodes and the final node number (FNN) are important variables of the vegetative development in soybean. The objective of this study was to determine the plastochron and the FNN of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) cultivars sown in different dates under irrigated conditions in a subtropical location. A field experiment was carried out in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil during 2005/2006 growing season, with three sowing dates (09/11/2005, 09/12/2005 and 28/01/2006). It was used 15 soybean cultivars recommended for the Central and North Argentina, and South and Southeast Brazil. The variables measured were the number of nodes (NN) and the (FNN) on the main stem. The plastochron was estimated by the inverse of the slope of the linear regression between NN and the thermal time (base temperature = 10°C) accumulated since plant emergence. The late sowing resulted in lower plastochron and FNN, probably because of the lower photoperiod under which the plants were submitted in the node phase, a typical response of short day plants.

As propriedades hidráulicas do solo são determinações consideradas caras e de difícil obtenção. O uso de funções de pedotransferência (FPTs) consiste em uma alternativa para a obtenção dessas informações de forma mais fácil e com menor custo. O objetivo desse estudo foi desenvolver e validar FPTs para estimar a retenção de água em alguns solos do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul (RS). O trabalho foi realizado utilizando-se dados de análises físicas de solos pertencentes ao banco de dados do Laboratório do Sistema Irriga, Universidade Federal de Santa Maria. Este banco de dados é composto por informações de textura do solo (areia, silte e argila), densidade (do solo e de partículas), porosidade do solo (macro, micro e total), além das informações do conteúdo de água nos potenciais matriciais de 0, -1, -6,-33, -100, -500 e -1500kPa de amostras coletadas na camada superficial de solos irrigados por aspersão, das regiões do planalto, missões e fronteira oeste do RS. As variáveis foram submetidas a um teste de correlação e, posteriormente, foram realizadas análises de regressão múltipla para a obtenção das FPTs, utilizando a opção stepwise do programa estatístico SAS. As FPTs obtidas indicaram associações apenas de atributos estruturais do solo com a retenção de água em potenciais mais elevados (0 e -1kPa) e de atributos texturais e estruturais, nos potenciais mais baixos (-33, -100, -500 e -1500kPa). As FPTs apresentaram alta precisão na estimativa da retenção de água nos potenciais considerados.

Soil physical hydraulic properties are determinations considered expensive and difficult to obtain. The use of pedotransfer functions (PTFs) is an alternative for obtaining such properties more easily and practically costless. The objective of this study was to develop and validate PTFs to estimate soil water retention of different textural soil classes in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The research was carried out using data from physical analysis of soils belonging to the database of Sistema Irriga laboratory, Universidade Federal de Santa Maria. This database consists of soil texture information (sand, silt and clay), density (of soil and of particles), soil porosity (macro, micro and total), besides of water content information at the matrix potential of 0, -1, -6,-33, -100, -500 e -1500kPa. Soil samples were collected on the surface layer of cultivated soils of RS. The variables were submitted to a correlation test, and were subsequently analyzed in multiple regressions test to obtain the PTFs, using the stepwise option of the SAS statistical program. The generated PTFs showed greater associations of soil attributes only related to soil structure such as soil water retention for higher potential (0 and -1kPa) and textural and structural attributes for lower potential (-33, -100, -500 e -1500kPa). The PTFs showed high accuracy in estimating soil water holding capacity of the considered potentials.

Estufas plásticas representam uma alternativa para o cultivo de olerícolas sob condições climáticas desfavoráveis. O pepino (Cucumis sativus L.) está entre as hortícolas mais cultivadas nesses ambientes protegidos. Dentre os seus principais insetos-praga, destacam-se os crisomelídeos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar os inimigos naturais de adultos desses insetos em cultivo de pepino em ambiente protegido. O pepino foi plantado na primeira semana de março de 2003, em estufa plástica situada em área experimental da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, em Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Os crisomelídeos foram coletados a cada dois ou três dias por semana durante todo o período de cultivo, totalizando 28 datas de coleta. Nas primeiras 22 amostragens, foram coletadas 50 vaquinhas/data e, nas demais, 30/data. As espécies de crisomelídeos identificadas foram: Diabrotica speciosa (Germar), Cerotoma arcuata Olivier e Acalymma bivittula (Kirsch). Celatoria bosqi Blanchard (Diptera: Tachinidae) foi a única espécie de parasitóide identificada, parasitando D. speciosa com maior freqüência. Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill. infectou adultos de D. speciosa e de A. bivittula, sendo que a primeira espécie se mostrou mais suscetível. Este é o primeiro registro da ocorrência de C. bosqi e B. bassiana em crisomelídeos em ambiente protegido.

Greenhouses represent an alternative for horticultural crops when the climatic conditions are unfavorable. Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is one of the most cultivated horticultural crops in these protected environments. Among its main insect pests are the chrysomelid beetles. The objective of the present research was to determine the natural enemies of chrysomelids in cucumber grown in protected environment. The cucumber was seeded on the first week of March, 2003, in plastic greenhouse located in the experimental area of the Federal University of Santa Maria, in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Chrysomelids were collected every two or three days/week during the whole cultivation period, totalizing 28 collection dates. In the first 22 samplings, 50 chrysomelids/date were collected and, in the others, 30/date. The species of chrysomelids identified were: Diabrotica speciosa (Germar), Cerotoma arcuata Olivier and Acalymma bivittula (Kirsch). Celatoria bosqi Blanchard (Diptera: Tachinidae) was the only parasitoid specie identified parasitizing most frequently D. speciosa. Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill. infected adults of D. speciosa and A. bivittula, and the first specie was more susceptible. This is the first record of the occurrence of C. bosqi and B. bassiana on chrysomelids in crops cultivated in protected environment.
